Hello, among the hundreds of tragic stories, I am sharing my painful story.
My name is Ahmed Khalil, I am 6 years old. I was at the beginning of my education, trying to learn, participate, and play with other children. My family consists of 8 members, including my mother and father. My father has diabetes, my brother Fathi is blind, my other brother Abdullah has autism, and my brother Mohammed was injured in his leg by shrapnel from rockets.

On October 7, 2023, the war began and has not stopped since. The airstrikes and Israeli shelling caused fear for me and my family. We could not endure the massive explosions that felt like recurring earthquakes and the red flames sweeping through the area. We were forced to flee to southern Gaza based on orders from the Israeli forces, leaving our beautiful apartments behind. We went to a UN refugee school in Deir al-Balah to escape the terror and death.

We stumbled into a different life full of suffering from every side, living through the most painful hell of war. I developed malnutrition due to contaminated water, poor hygiene, and the spread of infectious diseases with no suitable medicine available.

The situation is catastrophic and unbearable. “There is only death left in Gaza. Even death has become a privilege because it provides a sense of relief.” My older brother Mohammed and I begged our father to leave Gaza, but it was extremely difficult due to the high costs. My father lost all his property during the war, including his electronics repair center and apartment, which were completely destroyed, so he has nothing to help us travel out of Gaza. There is no safe place in the Gaza Strip.

I pray every moment for the end of this war and a ceasefire. The ceasefire is not just a call; it is a desperate cry to end the helplessness and despair spreading to every corner after more than 11 months of war. We flee from death every day, only to wake up the next morning to try to escape it again. My heart is heavy, unable to bear the recurring nightmares, and the overwhelming flood of news about blood, displacement, loss, and despair pouring from Gaza.
Every minute feels like a struggle. No one should have to endure this injustice, segregation, and discrimination. The ongoing shelling in southern Gaza and the intense bombardment of residential buildings in Deir al-Balah make everyone feel unsafe, believing they might be the next to face tragedy. Communications are cut off. We are exhausted and cannot bear more tragedies and losses. We are currently living in a classroom of the UN center, which is crowded with people, including my relatives and cousins. My poor father sees our pale faces and weak bodies and stands helpless due to the lack of money and resources.

I am still six years old, and I never thought I would witness such a brutal attack with complete disregard for human values. I am deprived of my basic rights, including health and education. I need to rebuild my life with my family abroad and receive better healthcare. Traveling to Egypt would cost at least $5,000 per adult and $2,500 per child, which is an enormous amount given the harsh living conditions and the blockade that has lasted for 17 years.

I've been doing a bit of research, and it turns out in New York City you are required to have at least seven years of experience to become certified as a "master plumber." A minimum of two of these years need to be spent as a "journeyman plumber," where you're licensed to repair pipes so long as you're working under the supervision of a master plumber.
Mario and Luigi can't legally run their business if they're both journeyman plumbers, but that would mean (if they are really both 24-25 like Shigeru Miyamoto says) at least one of them began training to be a plumber the instant he got out of high school. But if that's the case, how did they end up working in demolition?

My theory is that, since demolition companies sometimes locate and strip fixtures in commercial and residential properties for reuse or resale, plumbing fittings included, The Wrecking Crew hired the two plumbers-in-training to spot salvageable materials and take them apart. But if Foreman Spike happens to have a bone to pick and/or is on a power trip, I can easily imagine him adding hard labor on top of whatever plumbing-related jobs they were assigned until their schedule was filled with far more wrecking than plumbing.

But eventually, Mario got all his hours logged, passed his master plumber exam, got his commercial activity license, and got him and his brother the heck out of there. Which brings me to an additional theory that Luigi is still a journeyman plumber and not yet a master plumber.
There's a few bits of Nintendo lore that describe Luigi as something of an "understudy," or otherwise not quite as experienced as his brother in the realm of plumbing.

Which makes sense given the way Luigi seems to take on the apprentice role, closely watching the way Mario works and carrying around all the tools.

I think Luigi didn't immediately know what he wanted to do the moment he graduated high school the way Mario did. Maybe he dabbled in mechanics for a little bit before he ultimately decided to join his bro in his plumbing venture, but as a result he's a few years behind.

“The lack of heat was just one of the tenants' many complaints.
Records filed in court by the tenants show that last year, the apartment building's property managers forbade tenants from receiving parcel or food deliveries to their units, sought to evict tenants who refused to take down bird netting protecting their balconies from pigeons and banned Halloween trick-or-treating inside the building. The company also filed eviction notices against 21 tenants who had window-mounted air conditioners, saying the appliances put the building's old electrical wiring at risk of fire.
That November day, the tenants held up cardboard signs and took turns speaking from a megaphone. After about 30 minutes, they dispersed to place flyers on windshields and signposts.
"Tenants will not be pushed out of their homes," read the flyers they were posting. "Tenants… demand that [landlord] Anne DeMelo put an end to the harassment and do the repairs they have requested."
Two months later, they were all served legal papers.”

So my county (Orange County, New York) is in a drought rn with no real end in sight; it's been two and half months since we got any substantial rain, and in that time it's only lightly drizzled for a maybe a few hours, like twice.
There is currently a wildfire burning close by, which has burned over 2000 acres already and was started by a guy in New Jersey illegally firing tracer bullets (which contain magnesium) at the Central Jersey Firing Range. (He has since been charged with arson.)
This morning, the sky was red at sunrise. The air quality is getting steadily worse. The wildfires are a 0% containment. A firefighter has already died because of a tree falling on him. People are worried about the fire (which is burning on BOTH sides of the Hudson) reaching large residential areas nearby.
The only thing that can help us now is rain, but it has to be a slow and steady rain, because the ground is so dry and hard-packed that if we get a heavy rainfall, the ground will not be able to absorb it fast enough, and it will cause flash flooding.
There was a massive flash flood last year, considered a "once in a thousand years" event, that damaged or destroyed a huge amount of infrastructure, roads, and buildings in this area, many of which still have not been fully repaired or protected from further storm damage.
About 30% of the land at our house was literally washed away down the creek that runs though it, which had been at a trickle before, and turned into a 8 foot flood surge in the course of few hours.
The government had promised disaster relief money for our town (and surrounding towns) due to the damage from this event, but later, after much of the repair had already gotten underway, backed out and left the towns to foot the bill themselves.
My family would have been completely financially devastated if we had been forced to pay for the repairs to our property (we're talking like, over a million dollars of damage; SEVERAL times what the property is worth), but because there were key public infrastructure elements running through it (a storm drain, a sewer manhole, and an overpass for the road that went over the creek) the town ended up paying for ALL of the repairs, because they were all issues that needed to be fixed immediately and affected everyone in the town.
I am so fucking worried right now that either the wildfires are going to reach us, or rain comes in time to stave them off but it comes too heavy and causes another massive flash flood.
I need people to understand how completely bonkers it is that this is happening in this area. Like. I've lived here for around 15 years and that WHOLE time this area has only ever had like, one other official drought, and only for like, a day or two. We are RIGHT on the Hudson river, with creeks running all over, but the creeks have mostly dried up, we've been under a Red Flag burn ban for weeks, and our town is having a water shortage.
Also, besides the lack of rain, it's the second fucking week of November, but we've been having days in the high 60's, 70's, and even 80's, and there's only been a few days recently that dropped down into 50's, 40's or 30's, and only in the coolest parts of the night.
I've only had to wear an actual coat so far this season like, twice. It was in the high 70's and low to mid 80's all through the week of Halloween. When I stood in line for 2+ hours to vote, during sunset, it was balmy out. The previous presidential election, at the same location and time, had been so cold that I'd been freezing despite many layers of warm clothing, and I couldn't feel my extremities by the time I was able to cast my vote. But last week? It was BALMY.
There are still flowers blooming and putting out buds. There are tomatoes ripening on the vine. There are still flying insects outside. All these things should have been getting hit by frost like a month ago and started the process of going dormant. Now, if cold does suddenly hit, it's probably going to shock and kill off a lot of plant life.
This shit is NOT normal. Climate change is real.

Build rail for tomorrow's city, not today's

There are many logical reasons to cast a critical eye on the streetcar extension to the Eastside Beltline, and we should never spend this much money without arguing.
But folks, please stop acting like we can only build rail for the current conditions in a place -- this wrong assumption is the foundation for too many arguments against Beltline rail. We should build rail for the future version of Atlanta.
Obviously, we've screwed up in the past and built rail for "current conditions" and not for walkable growth, and that's a set of mistakes we should remember...
We built the MARTA heavy-rail system to serve as commuter lines to a Downtown Central Business District as it existed in the 1970s, but the system ended up being dwarfed by both job sprawl and residential sprawl, while too many of our rail stations were ensconced in parking lots and low-density development.
And we built a streetcar for tourists that runs mostly empty throughout the week because we included no walkable-density plan, leaving it surrounded by too many parking lots and empty properties -- and saddling it with interstate access points that challenge walkability.
So let's learn from our mistakes and start matching investment in high-capacity transit with transit-supportive density for the future. Is the Beltline a great place for doing that? I think so. It's a growth corridor, and the route is level for rail with only a few tricky intersections.
I think it's absolutely a good thing for people to disagree and have healthy debate about this, but the debate needs to be informed by the fact that building rail for current conditions is a mistake, as evidenced by our past, and that remedying that mistake means thinking about high-capacity transit in a new way.
Opposing Beltline rail in terms of what the conditions are on the corridor today is a bad faith argument. It's unfair to the future of the city to burden it with more of that same problematic planning decisions of the past.

The Scars Left Behind, With Time Event Summary
TL;DR: Saito suggests that MORE MORE JUMP! rent a property to conduct idol work out of. It's proven difficult to find a place within their budget that meets their conditions, however. They manage to find a suitable place; however, the landlord has a strict condition: they'll only rent to people with the will and means to achieve their dreams.
Soon after, Saito calls to notify them of a short-notice TV appearance opportunity. Though the appearance is the same day as their interview for the house, they decide to accept. On their way to learn more at the broadcast station, they encounter and old woman who had fallen. Minori offers to stay back and help her while the others go on ahead.
The shoot starts off very well. During the break, Minori goes to the restroom but overhears some audience members express disappointment that the influencer they wanted to see was replaced by MORE MORE JUMP!. Minori tries to not let it get to her. She immediately runs into the old lady from before, who can tell something's wrong. She tells Minori that though the idol industry can feel like it forces performers to plaster on a smile to spread hope, she doesn't have to bury her worries. Minori confides in the old lady, who helps her regain her confidence. Minori vows to do everything she can to spread hope to the audience she has today.
They go to resume shooting; however, 40 minutes in, they realize the camera hadn't been recording. Minori helps restructure and prepare a new segment to record instead. She also decides to get treats for the rest of the audience to enjoy both as a thank you for their patience and a source of interaction for the segment.
Though the filming had ended up being successful in the end, the extended time meant they had to miss their tenant screening interview. However, Saito calls to let them know the landlord agreed to reschedule, much to their surprise. The next day, they go to the house, only to learn the landlord is none other than the old lady. Impressed with the character of the four girls, she decides to let them rent the house.

Chapter 1: MORE MORE JUMP! work with a property agent, Kawanishi, to find a base of operations for their idol work, More More House. Saito had recommended it to make practice, streaming, and meeting easier, and now that they've been getting consistent work, it's within their budget. Kawanishi suggested renting a residential house so they'd have access to amenities like a shower and kitchen. Minori fantasizes about a domestic life with Haruka. Minori wants to take the first place, but Airi points out the rent is too high for them. They go over some more options to hammer out conditions before concluding the initial meeting. Minori is excited over the prospect of having a house and a long future of idol work.
Chapter 2: The next week, the four tour some of the properties Kawanishi suggested along with the Virtual Singers (in hiding). However, none of the places matched what they needed. Kawanishi suggests visiting one more special property.
Chapter 3: The group arrive at the special house, a two-family home where the landlord lives on the first floor. They split up to explore. Minori and Miku check out the practice room. Though it's old and scarred, it's well-cared for. Miku points out how each scratch in the floor is a result of everyone who'd lived there before, meaning the place holds the feelings of countless people.
MORE MORE JUMP decide to rent the house. However, Kawanishi warns that the tenant screening process isn't conventional: the landlord is looking for "someone who wants to and can make their dreams come true". That's why the rent is so low for such a nice place. It's a strict requirement, even for them, so there's no guarantee they'd get it. They decide to go through anyways, holding onto hope.
Chapter 4: Though they're all a bit nervous about the screening interview, the Virtual Singers reassure them that the best they can do is speak honestly. Saito calls to ask if they'd be able to fill in for a TV broadcast guest. Though it's the same day of the tenant screening, they should have enough time to do both. Saito asks them to go to the station right away for a briefing.
Road construction delayed their travel, making them almost late. Just before running in, they encounter an old lady who fell on the street and injured her leg. Minori asks the others to go ahead while she helps her. The old lady had wanted to go watch a TV screening where they happened to be heading, so Minori offers to carry her on her back. The old lady thanks her, surprising Minori when she calls her by name.
Chapter 5: The four visit the Virtual Singers to explain the previous day's events in SEKAI. Airi tells them about their upcoming appearance, which will likely be their biggest yet. They have to come up with their own segment on top of all that and the interview, too.
The day of the recording comes. Airi and Minori compete in a fashion contest for another guest, impressing Haruka and Shizuku with their performance. During the break, Minori goes to use the restroom and talk to Miku, who'd been listening to the recording from her pocket. While they walk, however, Minori overhears some audience members discussing their disappointment over MORE MORE JUMP! being the guests instead of the originally slotted influencer. Minori isn't mad, though, since she knows how they feel.
Chapter 6: Minori also runs into the old lady from before. She'd come to watch a different recording that day. The old lady reveals she knows Minori because she'd watched her on TV before. She then asks if Minori's doing ok, since she had looked so sad. Minori denies it. The old lady tells her that though the entertainment industry makes you feel like you have to smile through the pain to spread hope, she doesn't have to hide her feelings from herself. Minori decides to confide in her about her worries of inadequacy. The old lady replies that it's out of her control; no matter who filled the gap, the reaction would have been the same. Minori resolves to put her all into the performance today so she can still deliver her "hope for tomorrow." She thanks the old lady and returns to the show.
The others notice the positive change in Minori and resolve to try even harder with her. After forty minutes of filming, however, it turns out the cameras never started recording
Chapter 7: Re-shooting the previous segment would prove incredibly difficult. Minori suggests trying to introduce souvenirs from the TV station since the travel ones were all used up in the failed segment. The producers decide to go with her idea.
While preparing, the four overhear the audience complain about the extended time. Minori decides to help out and get the souvenirs for the staff members, much to their surprise. The rest of MORE MORE JUMP decide to help out too. Minori also decides to get sweets for the audience as a thank you for waiting so long, and to get their own input for the segment. The others workers are touched by Minori's desire to help and ignore the boundary between "staff" and "performer". All the performers go hand out Minori's sweets, much to their delight.
Chapter 8: The reshoot was a great success! However, the extended time means they're almost certainly going to be late to their tenant screening if they stay to see their guests off. Still, Minori wants to stay. The others agree and stay, too. Meanwhile, the staff discuss how amazing MORE MORE JUMP! handled the situation. One offhand mentions a quote from a once famous idol: "An idol is always an idol, no matter the situation".
Outside, the old lady hangs up a call about someone being late. She hears some of the audience members from the show discuss how Minori and the others helped entertain them during the technical difficulties.
The four walk back, disappointed that they'd probably lost the house. Saito calls to let them know the landlord decided to reschedule their interview. The next day, MORE MORE JUMP! arrive at the house. They greet the landlord, only to learn she's none other than the old lady. Minori apologizes for having to cancel, but the old lady didn't mind. She wants to let them rent the house after all they'd done to help her and the audience, and because of her talk with Minori. Airi feels like she recognizes the landlord, but can't place from where. Minori's excited to have a place to become even closer and chase their dreams together.

I just moved a year ago. Didnt watch the US stock market as much as I normally do. Had my first snowstorm 10 weeks ago, that was.. fun to handle while ill prepared. About 6 weeks ago I was hopping back on the market and notice its a huge tech bubble about to pop and all the conditions Ive been warned about my whole career imply this is not good. First of all-- the exact timeline of an "economic shock" is literal insanity. Dont worry about the exact timing of any of this-- just know its doomed to happen soon.
Here are some effects I predict of this upcoming economic downturn

This concise list is mainly for my own reference, but it would be great to add to it if any one has something to add!
0.5. US Stock market collapse-- I have no desire to try and predict this one exactly. Too many conspiracies are actually correct about this big guy. Lets just say 7 US Tech stocks are worth 25% of the entire worlds market, roughly. "Too big to fail"-- I believe is the phrase
1. Corporate (slightly later will be residential by extension) real estate crisis: currently way too overvalued. Most of the houses, land, & urban corporate property we see could stand to decrease by about 60-90% from its current price.
2. Bankruptcy crisis: similar to the after-effects of the 70s inflation-- we can expect to see a huge wave of bankruptcies affecting a variety of business: from the micro-self employed; to the small business with leased buildings; to the largest corporations who commit massive accounting fraud & hope to escape accountability in time
3. Bank runs-- there is an extremely high overreliance on the Federal Reserve, who does not have good control over this situation. Once it becomes clear that there is a crisis (we call this a catalyst event)-- bank runs for physical cash are a surety. Hard to say how long a crisis like this might last. I should ask my siblings who lived near the SVB bank crisis hotspot (but those were rich fucks they do their "bank runs" over the phone)
3.5. Global currency collapse, which takes effect in every single local, state, & national economy at slightly different times. This means prices lower. Much lower. But takes time
4. Whatever the fuck the geopolitics is gonna do???. Its weird. You got Russia wanting to invade Europe? (Look at global economic forum 2024) Trump wants to let them. Biden wants to be an establishment corporate ass. North Korea has changed its #1 public enemy to South Korea (dont remember my source but it was a couple months ago). USA is stationing more troops in Taiwan, but probably only because of semiconductor technology?
The scope of our global financial woes are larger than can be explained in any of our lifetimes. Its much, much closer to pre-revolution France or the late 1920s. Big change is coming. Itll be soon
