Y’know what has me thinking… why didn’t Hiccup and Astrid get together sooner? Like what about Astrid going blind would have convinced Hiccup to finally try and kiss her, rather than say, oh I don’t know, when Astrid almost died from the Scourge of Odin? Timing maybe?

We never really see them talk about each other in terms of “would a relationship be good for us right now”, but it’s clear they’re aware of the other’s feelings.

Why did they wait so long? Why did they finally get together? How could Astrid have kissed him so many times and they both thought nothing of it?

More importantly, how can I write an alternative way of them getting together way before the events of the Blindsided episode?

Funnily enough, the opportunity arose when Astrid was teaching her archery class.

The young Vikings were learning how to make their own arrows that day. While some may not think it essential, Astrid always instilled the skill in her teachings. Any that learn under her should never be caught unprepared.

She hadn't seen him yet, as she was answering a student's question about what type of stone was best for an arrowhead.

Grinning, he marched up to her, taking her hand and spinning her on her heels to face him. He looked at her like he always did: like she was the sun after going days without it.

"Good morning, Milady," and pulled her in for a deep kiss.

There were choruses of "Ew, gross!" from the boys, and excited little giggles from the girls in the class as the Chief and Chieftess kissed.

Pulling away, Hiccup knew this would be the hardest part of the challenge: going about his business like nothing happened.

There was blush on both of their faces as they leaned their heads towards each other, touching foreheads.

The little girls covered their faces, still giggling. Some of the boys pantomimed a gag.

Hiccup pulled away, and a quizzical look came over Astrid's face. "I, uh, I came by to check in on the kids, make sure they're behaving, see..." In truth, he completely forgot why he came there in the first place, aside from wanting to see his wife. "Well, looks like everything's in order. Keep up the good work, General."

there are SO MANY similarities between The Empyrean Series and How To Train Your Dragon

Both Violet and Hiccup are seen as weaker because of their poor physical abilities and strength, even though they are BRILLIANT

Both have one “dead” parent, and the other is the Chief/Commander of the place they call home

Both Lilith and Stoick don’t realize how actually incredible their child is and are constantly disappointed in them because they don’t follow their steps (giving them both major mommy/daddy issues)

Hiccup and Violent bond very powerful, deadly and legendary black dragons

Violet sees herself in Andarna, which is why she decides to protect her and Hiccup sees himself in Toothless, which is why he sets him free

Major characters who are thought to be dead (Valka and Brennan), happen to be very much alive and leading a rebellious life against what they were told was the truth their entire lives

Hiccup becomes the first ever dragon rider in Berk and Violet is the first know human to bond two dragons

Hiccup builds himsef a saddle to be able to ride Toothless and Xaden has one made for Violet so she can ride Tairn

Toothless can summon lightning and camouflage himself, Violet can weild lightning and Andarna can camouflage herself.

Both Stoick and Lilith sacrifice themselves trying to save their child in the middle of a battle

Dragons in both worlds have a place where no humans are allowed and they also have an established leadership system

Enemies to lovers story (kind of) where they become an unstoppable power couple who work amazing together in battle

Astrid and Xaden (love interests) are both strong, top of their class and amazing fighters

Character who rides a dragon looses his leg

Both religious systems have multiple deities and characters use the exclamation “Gods!” a lot

Those are the ones I can think of right now but I’m sure there’s a lot more.

I hate that we never heard Astrid tell Hiccup 'I love you'. I was fully expecting her to tell him she loved him back in rtte 6x06 after he told her he loved her... but she didn't. Like they really made an entire episode about Astrid wanting a more lovely dovey relationship but then she never even said 'I love you' in the episode?? And Astrid has so many inspiring and loving speeches to Hiccup but I wish there was an 'I love you' included in at least one of them

A/n: hii there!! Happy New Year ! Lol I finished this a little late BUT WE'RE STILL HERE NONETHELESS. I decided to make this one into some platonic Headcanons because I felt that would be best for this ask! Hope you enjoy it :) !

Warnings(?): none. But a little note, most of this takes place before Hiccup and Astrid officially get in a relationship.

Hiccup & Astrid x !Fem! Reader (Platonic.)

Who said you didn't have any siblings? These two fit that category quite well in your opinion.

This couple is really “something else”, according to your words.

They can either bring you immense joy or immense headaches.

You still love them.

You don't exactly know when or how you three built a solid friendship, but you're glad for it either way.

You were (surprisingly) always one of Astrid's close friends, even before she started to develop her bond with Hiccup.

You two seemed to “click” rather fast.

However, when it came to Hiccup, you two didn't interact much. Before he found Toothless, there was only a mutual understanding between you that said you wouldn't deride him as others had done.

He appreciated it.

But once you three sincerely got to know each other better, the friendship that bloomed was impossible to push aside.

Astrid would often come to you expressing her feelings towards Hiccup after a while, which shocked you beyond measure.

You knew she wasn't one to open up about things such as that very quickly, so you made sure to tread carefully while giving her the best advice you could come up with.

It mostly consisted of: "Then why don't you just tell him instead of me?"

You remembered not to say anything like that again when she glared at you.

She doesn't mean any harm by it, trust me. Probably.

Hiccup, on the other hand, was quite obvious in revealing what he felt towards her right from the beginning - all without explicitly saying it.

It didn't take him long to ramble about his affections for her. He would pull you aside a lot just to talk on certain traits of hers, the little things she does, and her in general.

You tried not to let your face show the exasperation that clung to you because of the whole topic. "Seriously, when are you two gonna admit it? Am I Astrid?"

Hiccup paused, slowly shaking his head.

"Then why on earth are you telling me all of this!?"

"Because I need to get this off my chest somehow!" Hiccup gestured his hands at you while he talked, waving them as if he were explaining a complex matter.

You pinched the bridge of your nose, heaving a sigh. "I got an idea; why don't you just tell her what you feel then!"

At the end of the day, he, in fact, did not.

You were more relieved once you all came to the Edge; there they seemed to be more willing to work on...whatever it was between them.

You silently cheered them on the whole time and ‘counseled’ the two.

The day they told you it was ‘official’... Hiccup got punched on the arm and Astrid was shaken uncontrollably by her shoulders - all your handy work.

"You're serious now?!" You shouted, jumping in place from the pure excitement that coursed through your veins.

Hiccup had been busy rubbing his arm, which was sure to have a new bruise in the morning, wincing as he answered for the third time. "Yes! Now will you quit–" He dodged another punch sent his way, looking at you as if you deeply offended him.

You briskly shook your head, lightly clapping. "Nope! You deserve it for putting me through so much waiting!"

Astrid, who was recovering from having a miniature earthquake done to her, pinched the bridge of her nose. "Okay, okay, we get it! You better quit messing around like that or–"

Your gleeful shouts interrupted her from continuing,

And they just had to deal with it.

You were their top supporter, to say the least.

If they had small trivial arguments, they'd both come to you at separate times – not that they knew it, of course.

It allowed you to simultaneously hear both sides of the stories and eventually help them sort it out.

After a while, they learned to resolve any disputes (there were hardly any) on their own without constantly going to you right away, which made you content.

It was their relationship after all!

(You watched them like a proud mother from afar whenever they spent time together, at least where you could see them.)

When it came to being around them individually, you'd usually go with Hiccup on the flights he normally does. (Even if it was to get away from his Chiefly lessons.)

He lets you assist him in sketching out more details on his map whenever you might discover another island or sea stack somewhere.

Being with Astrid was always an ebullient experience; you'd train and spar alongside her and do some axe throwing as well.

It always seemed to make her more lively.

The two of them appreciated you, although you could get extra bubbly most of the time.

They still love you.
