roommate!James x shy!reader ♡ 804 words
“Honey, I’m home!”
A smile tugs at your lips, even as you roll your eyes to yourself. James has become more and more fond of these pet names, and of announcing his comings and goings like he’s worried you’ll miss him. (He’s never gone long enough for that, though you might actually miss him if he were.) If you don’t respond in some way or another, he’ll—
“Hey.” He pokes his head through your cracked door. “You alive in here?”
You pause in folding your laundry to give him a deadpan look. “I could have been in my underwear.”
He looks mildly horrified. “I’d hope if you were, you’d close the door all the way.”
“You know, I did manage to stay alive even before you moved in.”
James leans on your doorframe, giving you the sort of lazy grin you have to pretend doesn’t scare butterflies into flight in your stomach. You really hope that wears off soon. “See, but now I’m convinced if I don’t check on you, you really will die and it’ll be my fault.”
“How would it be your fault?”
“Classic case of roommate neglect. I smell the rotting coming from inside your room, the police come, they ask How did you not know your roommate was dead for a month? I reply, Well, officer, she said she could be galavanting in her underwear at any moment. They put me in handcuffs and I spend the next five to fifteen years having Sirius bring me cigarettes I don’t want so that I can trade them for ramen noodles in the yard.”
You scoff, fighting a smile. “As if you would ever eat ramen.”
“That’s what I’m saying, sweetheart. You’d be forcing me upon desperate times. But hey,” he raises his hands in a show of surrender, “I didn’t come in here to discuss prison currency. Would it be alright with you if I had friends over tonight?”
“Of course,” you say, looking back down to match a pair of socks. “You don’t need to ask every time, it’s always alright.”
“Thanks,” he says warmly, “but it makes me feel better to ask. What do you want on your pizza?”
You blink. “Me?”
“Yes, you.” He smiles. Butterflies all over again. “You don’t have to hang out with us to eat it—though we’d love to have you—but I’m not just going to order pizza to your own apartment without having any for you.”
“It’s your apartment, too,” you remind him. “That’d be a very normal thing to do.”
“Irregardless.” James waves you off. You wrinkle your nose at the word choice. “What do you want?”
You swallow a sigh. There are some things, you’ve found, James is nearly impossible to argue with about. If you really dig your heels in, sometimes you can make him move first, but you don’t feel like it right now.
You do the next best thing you can think of: choosing the least obtrusive option. “Cheese is good with me, thanks.”
His eyes narrow like he knows what you’re doing, but he says, “Got it. I’ll let you know when it’s here.”
“Thanks.” You turn your attention back to your laundry. James lingers in the doorway.
A month ago, you would have kept ignoring him, working on the (unfounded) hope that he’d go away. Now, you look up.
“Do you think you might come downstairs and hang out?” he asks. He has a strange look on his face, one you can’t quite decipher. “You know you’re always invited.”
You give James a terse sort of smile. He’s not stopped inviting you to do things since the day he moved in. Your open invitation has been made very clear, and you’ve been accepting it more often lately. James is someone who makes it easy to feel close to him. He tosses pet names at you like they’re nothing, comes to check on you when he gets home, pretends he needs to go grocery shopping just because you need a ride to the store. Last week, you’d sat down to watch a movie with him and woken up to a black screen, your cheek smushed into his shoulder and his head resting atop yours.
Somehow, you’ve let him spill into your life without meaning to, and now you have these childish, crush-like reactions whenever he smiles a certain way or calls you pet names with that familiar bent to his voice. You know you just need time to sort these feelings out. It’d probably be ideal to keep yourself from spilling into his life as much as possible in the meantime.
But it’s hard to deny James anything when he’s so sweet to you. And he’s nice. His friends seem nice.
“I might,” you say.
“I’ll take the win,” James replies, smiling. These butterflies are seriously inconvenient.

moonlight and mending pt.9 | remus lupin
pairing: remus lupin x reader
summary: you become remus' girlfriend, officially.
obs: this is part nine of a series. here's part one and part ten.
masterlist
The past few days had been… odd.
Remus was acting strange.
Not in a bad way—if anything, he was more affectionate than usual, constantly tucking you close to his side, pressing random kisses to your temple, and looking at you like you were the best thing that had ever happened to him. Which, in all honesty, you kind of loved.
But he was also sneaking around.
And Remus Lupin was a terrible liar.
“Alright,” you said, crossing your arms as you cornered him in the library. “What’s going on?”
Remus blinked up at you, feigning innocence. “What do you mean?”
You narrowed your eyes. “Oh, don’t you dare try to act clueless, Lupin. You’re up to something.”
His ears turned pink. “I—what? Me? Up to something? Pfft, that’s ridiculous.”
You raised a brow. “You’ve been whispering with the boys every time I walk into a room, Lily keeps giving me knowing looks, and you nearly jumped out of your skin when I caught you writing in your notebook yesterday. You never hide things from me.”
Remus swallowed, looking anywhere but at you. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, love.”
You gasped dramatically. “Oh Merlin, you’re actually lying to me.”
“I’m not lying—”
You poked his chest. “You are! You’re the worst liar, Remus Lupin!”
“I am not—”
“You so are! You do this thing where you scratch the back of your neck—”
He immediately stopped scratching the back of his neck.
You smirked. “Aha! Caught red-handed!”
Remus groaned, covering his face with his hands. “I hate that you know me so well.”
You giggled, reaching up to pry his hands away. “Come on, just tell me what you’re planning.”
“No.”
“Remus.”
“Nope.”
You sighed dramatically. “You’re cruel. This is cruelty.”
He laughed, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead. “Patience, dove.”
You huffed. “You do realize I will figure it out, right?”
He smirked. “Not if I ask James to hide all your detective novels.”
You gasped. “You wouldn’t.”
“I would.”
“You monster.”
Remus chuckled, looping his arms around your waist. “Just… trust me, alright? It’s nothing bad. Just something I want to get right.”
You sighed, resting your forehead against his. “Fine. But if you take too long, I will take matters into my own hands.”
He grinned, kissing your softly. “I’d expect nothing less from you.”
And with that, he escaped before you could question him further.
He still had work to do.
The following days only made you more suspicious.
Remus was still sneaking off with the boys, still whispering in hushed tones whenever you entered a room, and now, even Lily was in on it.
You tried everything to get it out of him—puppy-dog eyes, playful threats, bribery with his favorite chocolates—but nothing worked.
Remus Lupin was a terrible liar, but when he was determined to keep a secret? He was infuriatingly stubborn.
Which was why you were currently slumped over the Gryffindor common room couch, dramatically groaning into a pillow.
“Why are men?” you whined.
Lily snorted from the chair across from you. “I assume you mean Remus.”
You lifted her head, pouting. “He’s hiding something, Lils.”
Lily gave you an infuriatingly knowing look. “Maybe he just wants to surprise you.”
You narrowed your eyes. “You know, don’t you?”
Lily only sipped her tea, looking far too smug.
“Oh, Merlin,” you groaned, flopping back onto the couch. “First the boys, now you? I’m losing.”
Lily chuckled. “Patience, dear”
You huffed. “That’s what he keeps saying.”
Lily smirked. “Then maybe you should listen.”
You were about to throw a pillow at her when the portrait hole swung open and in walked Remus, looking slightly winded, his uniform a little rumpled.
And Sirius, grinning like a maniac.
Oh, this was suspicious.
Sirius clapped Remus on the back. “Alright, Moony, you’re all set. Now go get your girl—”
Remus shot him a look. “Shut up, Pads.”
You sat up immediately. “Go get your what?”
Sirius smirked. “Your girl, obviously.”
Remus pinched the bridge of his nose. “I hate you.”
Sirius only wiggled his brows. “You love me.”
Remus sighed and turned to you, looking nervous but also determined.
You stared at him, heart racing. “Remus?”
He took a breath, then held out his hand. “Come with me?”
Your stomach flipped. “...Alright.”
You let him take your hand, casting one last suspicious glance at Sirius and Lily—both of whom were grinning like idiots—before following Remus out of the common room.
Whatever he was planning… you had a very strong feeling that you were about to find out.
Remus led you through the dimly lit corridors of Hogwarts, his hand warm around yours. He was nervous, you could feel it in the way his grip tightened slightly, in the way his thumb traced absentminded circles against her skin.
You wanted to ask but something in his expression stopped you.
Instead, you let him guide you up a staircase, down a hallway, and finally to a familiar wooden door.
The Astronomy Tower.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Remus glanced at you, then hesitated. “Close your eyes?”
You narrowed your eyes playfully. “Are you going to push me off the tower?”
He let out a soft laugh, shaking his head. “Not this time.”
You giggled but obeyed, closing your eyes as he pushed the door open and led you inside.
“Alright,” he murmured, stopping behind you. “You can look now.”
You opened your eyes—and gasped.
The Astronomy Tower, already one of the most beautiful places in Hogwarts, had been transformed into something straight out of a dream.
A thick, cozy blanket was spread out in the center, surrounded by enchanted candles floating in the air, casting a soft, golden glow. A few pillows were scattered on the blanket, along with a basket—probably filled with food, knowing Remus—and a thermos of what you hoped was hot chocolate.
But what really caught your attention was the sky above—clear, open, vast, the stars twinkling like tiny diamonds.
It was breathtaking.
You hand flew to your mouth. “Remus…”
He scratched the back of his neck, looking sheepish. “D’you like it?”
You turned to him, eyes wide. “Like it? Remus, this is—this is beautiful.”
His shoulders sagged in relief. “Good. That’s… that’s good.”
You turned back to take it all in, still in awe. “Did you do all this?”
Remus chuckled. “I had some help.”
You smirked. “Sirius?”
“Mostly James, actually,” he admitted. “Sirius just told me not to mess it up.”
You laughed, grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the blanket. “Well, you haven’t.”
You sat down together, and as soon as you were settled, Remus reached into the basket and pulled out a familiar-looking bar of chocolate.
Your eyes widened. “Remus, is that—”
He smirked. “My favorite chocolate? Yes. And before you ask, yes, I’m sharing.”
You gasped dramatically. “You must love me.”
At that, his face turned serious.
You blinked. “Remus?”
He took a breath, then took both of your hands in his. His thumbs traced over your knuckles, his expression soft but determined.
“There’s something I need to say,” he murmured.
You tilted your head. “What is it?”
He hesitated for a fraction of a second before looking her straight in the eyes.
“I love you.”
“I know I’ve said it before,” he continued, voice steady, “but I need you to know how much I mean it. How much you mean to me.”
Your fingers curled around his. “Remus…”
He shook his head, a small, almost nervous smile playing on his lips. “Let me say this, dove.”
You nodded, heart pounding.
Remus took another breath, then spoke.
“You are—everything to me. Before you, I thought I’d always be alone, that I deserved to be alone. I never let myself believe that someone like you—someone so good, so kind, so brilliant—could ever want someone like me.” He squeezed your hands. “But you do. And I still can’t quite believe it.”
You opened your mouth, but no words came out—your throat was too tight, your eyes burning.
Remus swallowed, then continued, “You take care of me when I need it most. You see me—the real me. And you don’t turn away. You never turn away.” His voice wavered, but he pressed on. “I love you. I love you more than I ever thought I could love someone.”
He exhaled, gaze locked onto yours. “And I—” He let out a nervous chuckle. “I had this whole speech planned, but my brain’s gone completely blank because you’re looking at me like that.”
You laughed, finally finding your voice. “Like what?”
“Like you’re about to kiss me,” he teased.
You grinned. “Maybe I am.”
His lips twitched, but then his expression turned serious again. “Before you do, I need to ask you something.”
You nodded. “Anything.”
Remus took a shaky breath. “Will you—will you be my girlfriend?”
Your heart stopped.
“Because I—I want you to be,” he continued, voice thick with emotion. “More than anything. But only if you want to. I don’t ever want you to feel like you have to—”
You didn’t let him finish.
Because you did kiss him.
Hard.
Remus let out a startled sound before melting completely against you, hands coming up to cup your face as he kissed you back like you were the air he needed to breathe.
When you finally pulled back, you pressed your forehead against his, smiling. “You idiot,” you murmured.
Remus blinked. “Uh—”
“Of course I’ll be your girlfriend.”
His eyes widened. “You—”
You laughed, nudging his nose with yours. “Did you really think I’d say no?”
“I—” He huffed out a breathless laugh. “I don’t know—I was terrified—”
You kissed him again, softer this time, pouring every ounce of love you had for him into it.
When you pulled away, Remus was looking at you like you hung the stars in the sky.
“I love you,” he whispered.
You smiled. “I love you, too.”
Remus grinned, then let out a relieved laugh, pulling you into his arms. “Merlin, I’m so lucky.”
You hugged him back, eyes closing as you listened to his heartbeat.
And for the first time in a long time, Remus Lupin felt like the happiest boy in the entire world.
You settled onto his lap, arms wrapping around his neck as you nuzzled into him, breathing him in. You just wanted to be close—closer than ever. Like you could melt into him, merge your hearts together because Godric, you loved him.
And Remus—Merlin, he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that you were his now. Officially. Not just in the way you gravitated toward each other, or in the way you cared for each other, but in the real, undeniable, world-acknowledging way.
“You’re mine,” he murmured against your temple, like he was testing the words out loud, making sure they were real.
You grinned, pulling back to look at him. “Yours,” you confirmed, tapping his nose. “And you—you’re mine.”
His lips twitched. “That’s how this whole ‘relationship’ thing works, yeah.”
You giggled and kissed him again, just because you could. Just because it felt right.
When you pulled back, you ran your fingers through his soft, messy hair, admiring him. Your boyfriend.
Remus still looked a little dazed, eyes flickering between your lips and your eyes. “I still can’t believe you actually said yes.”
You gasped dramatically, placing a hand over your heart. “Remus John Lupin, are you insulting me?”
He blinked. “What? No, I—”
“Because I’ll have you know I love you, and I would’ve said yes the second you asked me—maybe even before.”
His lips curled into a lopsided smile. “Before?”
You grinned. “Oh, yeah. I would've just known.”
He let out a chuckle, shaking his head. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you love it.”
“I do.”
You beamed. “Good.”
He took your hand in his and started tracing random shapes on your palm, looking thoughtful. “I just don’t get it,” he admitted after a moment.
You raised an eyebrow. “Get what?”
“How you—this brilliant, beautiful, perfect girl—ended up with me.”
You groaned and lightly smacked his chest. “Remus, shut up.”
He laughed. “I mean, really, you could’ve had anyone—”
You sighed dramatically. “Okay, fine, let’s settle this right now.”
Remus blinked as you leaned in, your lips brushing against the shell of his ear. “You are brilliant,” you whispered. “You are beautiful. You are perfect. And you are mine. And if you ever question that again, I will throw hands.”
His breath hitched, and you could feel the way his hands tightened on your waist. “Throw hands with who?”
You pulled back, eyes serious. “With you, if necessary.”
He grinned, shaking his head. “You’re impossible.”
“You love it,” you said again, giggling.
Remus let out a dramatic sigh. “I do,” he admitted, feigning defeat. “I really, really do.”
You hummed in approval and reached for the basket, grabbing a piece of his chocolate. “Good. Now, since I’m your girlfriend, I think I deserve the biggest piece of this.”
His eyes widened in mock offense. “That’s my favorite—”
You smirked, taking a slow, obnoxious bite. “Mmm,” you said, exaggerating the sound. “Tastes even better when it’s yours.”
He huffed, crossing his arms. “Merlin, I should’ve known this would happen the second I asked you out.”
You giggled, leaning in to kiss the pout off his lips. “Oh, Remus,” you whispered against him. “You love spoiling me.”
He groaned. “I do. And it’s awful.”
You gasped. “Did you just call loving me awful?”
His face dropped. “That’s not—I meant you’re awful—no, wait—”
You threw your head back, laughing. “Remus, I’m teasing you.”
He sighed in relief. “Oh, thank Merlin.”
You kissed his nose. “You’re adorable.”
He huffed. “I was trying to be charming.”
You grinned. “You were.”
Remus blinked. “I—wait, really?”
You nodded. “In your own awkward, bookish, Remus way. And I love it.”
His lips twitched. “I tried to flirt with you, you know.”
You tilted her head, intrigued. “Did you?”
“Yes.” He cleared his throat. “And then you stole my chocolate, and now I’m questioning my life choices.”
You giggled, popping another piece into your mouth. “Welcome to dating me, Lupin.”
He just shook his head, wrapping his arms more securely around you. “Merlin help me.”
You kissed him again, softly, sweetly. “You’re stuck with me now.”
He smiled against your lips. “That’s the best part.”
Officially his.
The days passed, and being Remus Lupin’s girlfriend was, quite literally, the best thing in the world.
You had always loved him, always been close to him, but now—now you got to call him yours. Now you got to kiss him whenever you wanted, hold his hand under the table, steal his sweaters without pretending it was an accident.
And the best part?
Remus—your shy, awkward, bookish boyfriend—was so different when you were alone.
In public, he was still himself—still sweet, still affectionate in his own way. He’d tuck loose strands of your hair behind your ear, guide you through crowded hallways with a hand on your lower back, steal soft, fleeting kisses when he thought no one was looking. But when they were alone?
It was ridiculous.
You had no idea where he had been hiding this side of him, but you loved it.
Like right now.
You were curled up in his bed, a book in your hands, completely relaxed as Remus lay beside you, his head resting in your lap. He had claimed he was reading, too, but really, he had spent the last fifteen minutes tracing slow, lazy circles on your thigh, humming softly to himself.
You smiled down at him, brushing his messy hair away from his face. “You’re staring,”.
He hummed, looking unbothered. “And?”
You grinned. “And you’re distracting me.”
His lips twitched. “Am I?”
“Yes,” you said, closing your book with a soft thud. “What are you thinking about, love?”
He tilted his head, considering. “How beautiful you are,” he said casually, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Your heart skipped. “Remus.”
He smirked. Smirked. “What? Am I not allowed to admire my girlfriend?”
You rolled your eyes. “Not when I’m trying to read.”
He hummed, running a gentle hand up and down you arm. “Mm. You can read later.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And what do you propose I do now?”
Remus sat up, shifting so that they were face to face. His hands found your waist as he pulled you closer, to his lap, pressing a soft kiss to your nose.
“Be kissed,” he murmured.
Your stomach flipped.
“Oh,” you breathed. “I see.”
And then he did kiss you.
Soft, slow, deep. Like he had all the time in the world just to kiss you senseless.
You sighed against his lips, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I think I like this plan.”
He chuckled, kissing you again, this time at the corner of your mouth. “I thought you might.”
You grinned. “You’re so soft when we’re alone.”
Remus groaned. “Don’t tell anyone.”
You giggled. “I won’t. But it’s adorable.”
He sighed dramatically. “Merlin help me.”
You kissed his cheek. “I love being your girlfriend.”
His arms tightened around you. “I love that you’re my girlfriend.”
You beamed. “I think I’m the lucky one.”
Remus snorted. “No, I am.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Remus, look at me. And now look at you. You’re sweet and smart and stupidly handsome, and you love me. I win.”
His lips twitched. “I do love you.”
You grinned. “And I love you.”
Remus sighed, pressing his forehead to yours. “Fine. We can both be lucky.”
You giggled, kissing him again. “Deal.”
Not the same.
The Gryffindor common room was buzzing with life, but in one particular corner, a very important discussion was taking place.
Remus sat on the couch, you tucked securely under his arm, your legs draped across his lap. James, Sirius, and Peter were sprawled across the furniture, with Lily sitting comfortably beside James, her legs crossed, eyes sharp with amusement.
And at this very moment, all of them were grilling Remus.
“I’m just saying,” James said, tossing a chocolate frog in the air and catching it in his mouth, “you’ve changed, mate.”
Remus raised an eyebrow. “Have I?”
“Oh, definitely,” Sirius jumped in, pointing a dramatic finger at him. “You’re all smiley now. And confident. And you let people touch you.”
Peter nodded furiously. “You used to flinch when Sirius so much as breathed near you.”
Remus rolled his eyes. “That’s because Sirius used to randomly tackle me in the corridors.”
Sirius smirked. “I still do that, but now you fight back.”
Lily leaned in, grinning. “They’re right, you know.”
Remus groaned. “Not you too, Evans.”
“Oh, absolutely me too,” she said, smiling knowingly. “You’re different. Happier.”
James nodded sagely. “A man in love.”
You laughed, snuggling closer to Remus. “I like him like this.”
Remus looked down at you, his heart flipping at the way you smiled at him like he had hung the stars. He pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “I am happy,” he admitted. “Really happy.”
Sirius gasped. “Merlin’s beard! Moony just admitted to being happy? Who are you?”
Remus rolled his eyes. “Shut up, Pads.”
Peter cackled. “You are different though! You talk more, joke more—you even initiate affection.”
James wiggled his eyebrows. “So tell us, Moony, what’s your secret?”
Remus sighed, looking down at you, who was staring up at him with the softest, sweetest expression. He couldn’t help but smile.
“She’s my secret,” he said simply.
The room erupted.
“Oh, gag—” Sirius groaned.
“That was so disgustingly romantic,” Peter whined.
James clutched his chest. “Moony, I think I might cry.”
Lily just laughed, nudging you. “You’ve ruined him.”
You grinned. “You say ‘ruined,’ I say ‘improved.’”
Remus chuckled, squeezing your hand. “I have to agree.”
Sirius made a choking sound. “He agrees?! Who are you?”
James threw an arm over Remus’ shoulder dramatically. “He’s in love, Pads. Let the boy live.”
Remus just smiled, pressing a kiss to your temple.
For once, he didn’t mind the teasing. Because, for the first time in his life, he was truly, ridiculously, wonderfully happy.
Later that night, when everyone had gone to their own forms, you both stayed behind, just the two of you.
It was late, the Gryffindor common room nearly empty except for a few students scattered around, quietly studying or chatting in hushed voices. The fire crackled softly, casting a warm glow over the room, and outside, the sky was painted with stars. It was the perfect setting for a quiet, peaceful night.
You sat curled up on the couch, a book resting in your lap, but your focus was barely on the pages. Not when Remus was sitting beside you, leaning into your warmth, his head resting lightly against yours. He was tired—exhausted, really—but he never wanted to leave your side.
You closed her book with a soft thud and turned slightly, taking in his relaxed expression. “You should go to bed, you know,” you murmured, gently brushing a strand of hair from his face.
Remus hummed in response but made no move to get up. Instead, he turned his head slightly, pressing a slow, lingering kiss against your shoulder. “Mmm… ‘m comfortable here,” he mumbled sleepily.
You smiled softly, your fingers gently running through his hair. “You’re practically falling asleep on me, Moony.”
“That’s because you’re warm,” he said, voice drowsy but affectionate. “And I like being close to you.” He nuzzled against your neck slightly, breathing you in. “Smell good, too.”
You let out a soft laugh, tilting your head as he pressed another lazy kiss just below your ear. “Is that the wolf in you talking?” you teased.
Remus chuckled against your skin. “Probably,” he admitted. Then, his lips curled into a small smirk. “Or maybe it’s just me being completely in love with my girlfriend.”
Your heart skipped a beat, and you bit your lip, trying (and failing) to suppress the giddy smile that spread across your face. Even after all this time, he still had this effect on you.
“Well,” you said softly, “I think I might just be completely in love with my boyfriend too.”
Remus lifted his head slightly to look at you, his warm brown eyes searching yours. His expression softened, full of something deep and unspoken. Slowly, he reached up to cup your cheek, his thumb brushing tenderly against your skin.
“You are?” he asked, his voice quiet but filled with awe.
You leaned into his touch, nodding. “I am.”
A slow, loving smile spread across his face. He looked at you as if you were the most precious thing in the world, like he still couldn’t believe you were his. “Merlin, I love you,” he whispered, his forehead gently pressing against yours.
“I love you too,” you whispered back, your eyes fluttering shut as you savored the moment.
Then, before you could say anything else, he tilted your chin up slightly and kissed you. It wasn’t rushed or desperate—it was soft, sweet, and filled with so much love. His lips moved against yours slowly, taking his time, savoring you, as if he wanted to memorize the way you felt against him.
You sighed happily into the kiss, your fingers threading through his soft curls as you pulled him closer. His hands found their way to your waist, holding you gently, grounding himself in your presence.
When they finally pulled apart, he rested his forehead against yours again, your breaths mingling.
“You make me so happy,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
You smiled, pressing a tiny kiss to the corner of his lips. “You make me happy too.”
Remus let out a soft chuckle, rubbing his thumb over your waist in slow, soothing circles. “I still can’t believe you’re mine,” he admitted.
You cupped his face, looking at him with nothing but adoration. “I’ve always been yours, Remus.”
His breath hitched slightly at your words, his arms instinctively tightening around yours. He didn’t say anything, just held you close, his heart full.
And in that moment, with the fire crackling beside you and the world fading away, nothing else mattered except the fact that you had each other.

A note from the author:

The air at Platform 9¾ buzzed with excitement, the steam from the Hogwarts Express curling around the crowd in wisps of white. The familiar sounds of chatter, last-minute reminders, and tearful goodbyes filled the air.
Harry Potter-Black stood with his arms crossed, a nostalgic smile playing on his lips as he watched the next generation of witches and wizards prepare to leave for Hogwarts. Beside him, his younger sister, Danny Lestrange née Black, adjusted the collar of her son’s robes with sharp precision.
“Cass, stop fidgeting,” she muttered, fixing her daughter with a pointed look.
Cassiopeia Lestrange, her dark curls a perfect blend of both parents, huffed dramatically. “I just don’t want to look messy, Mum.”
“You’re going to Hogwarts, not the Wizengamot,” Danny deadpanned, before turning to her son. “Arcturus, you excited?”
Arcturus Lestrange, slightly more reserved than his twin, nodded. “Yeah… I think so. But what if I’m not in Slytherin?”
Danny softened slightly, kneeling so she was at eye level with him. “Then you won’t be in Slytherin. It doesn’t matter where you end up. You’re still a Lestrange—" she ignored Harry’s amused cough at that, "—and more importantly, you’re our son. So wherever you go, you’ll be great.”
Arcturus brightened a little.
Harry, watching the exchange, smirked. “You sound just like Baba.”
Danny scoffed. “Of course I do.”
Ginny, standing beside Harry, rolled her eyes. “And you sound just like Y/N. All sharp words but way too soft on the inside.”
Harry huffed. “I do not.”
Danny and Ginny exchanged a knowing look.
A tug on his sleeve made Harry glance down. His eldest child, a boy with messy black hair and warm brown eyes, grinned up at him.
“Dad, tell me again about the first time you went to Hogwarts?”
Harry chuckled and ruffled his son’s hair. “You ever hear of a troll in the dungeons on your first night?”
James Sirius Potter gasped, while Cassiopeia and Arcturus leaned in, wide-eyed.
Danny rolled her eyes. “Don’t scare them.”
“I’m not scaring them. I’m preparing them,” Harry said with mock seriousness.
“More like giving them ideas,” Ginny muttered, shaking her head.
The train whistle blew, signaling the final boarding call.
Danny sighed, her expression softening as she looked at her twins. “Alright, go on then.”
Cassiopeia and Arcturus hesitated, glancing between their parents.
“Go,” Adrian said, gently nudging them forward. “You’re going to be late.”
Finally, the twins ran off, dragging their trunks behind them.
James Sirius looked up at his parents. “I have to go too, right?”
Harry swallowed thickly, nodding. “Yeah, kiddo. You do.”
James’s grin wobbled just slightly, and Harry knelt, gripping his son’s shoulders. “Listen to me. You’re going to have the best time. You’ve got your cousins, and you’re James Sirius Potter. You’ve got troublemaker written all over you.”
James smirked. “Like you?”
Harry laughed. “Exactly.”
Ginny leaned down, pressing a kiss to James’s forehead. “Be good. Write to us.”
James groaned. “Mum…”
“I mean it, James,” she said firmly, though her eyes were warm.
He nodded before hugging her quickly. “Okay, okay.”
With a final grin, James sprinted toward the train.
Cassiopeia and Arcturus stuck their heads out of the window, waving wildly.
“Write to us!” Danny called.
“And don’t get into too much trouble!” Harry added.
Cassiopeia just grinned. “No promises!”
Danny groaned. “Oh, Merlin, she’s just like you.”
Harry smirked. “And Arcturus is just like you. Broody and dramatic.”
Danny rolled her eyes before glancing at her older brother. “Think they’ll be as much trouble as us?”
Harry smirked. “Absolutely.”
Danny shook her head, but her lips twitched into a smile as the train disappeared into the horizon.
Standing there, side by side, Harry and Danny realized something.
They had survived a war. They had lost people they loved. They had fought for everything they had.
And now, as they stood on Platform 9¾, watching their children set off on their own journey, they knew—
The next generation would carry on the legacy.
Regulus let out a long, slow breath as the Hogwarts Express disappeared from sight, the last wisps of steam curling into the sky. He glanced over at Y/N, who was standing beside him, an unreadable expression on her face.
“…We did it,” Y/N finally murmured.
Regulus nodded, rubbing his temple. “Yes. Finally. After years of raising two children and their equally troublesome partners, they’re all at Hogwarts.”
A beat of silence passed between them.
Then, in perfect unison, they turned to each other and blurted out—
“We’re alone.”
Y/N grabbed Regulus’s collar, eyes wide. “Reg, we’re alone.”
Regulus’s lips parted in pure realization. “No children. No late-night sneaking for cookies. No twin catastrophes. No Quidditch injuries. No Hazzy breaking things in the house.”
“No one walking in on us when we’re—”
Regulus pressed a hand to her mouth, eyes darting to where Harry and Danny were still standing with Ginny and Adrian, their attention thankfully elsewhere. “Shh, don’t jinx it.”
Y/N grinned against his hand before pulling it away. “Reg, do you know what this means?”
He tilted his head. “We can have tea in peace?”
“Yes, and—”
“We can read without someone interrupting us?”
“That too, but—”
“We can sleep past six in the morning?”
Y/N groaned. “Reg, I meant we can finally have a night alone.”
Regulus blinked.
Then, very seriously, he took Y/N’s hands in his and whispered, “Darling, I love you more than life itself, but if we don’t go home and take a nap first, I will pass out in this station.”
Y/N sighed dramatically, but her smirk betrayed her amusement. “Fine, old man.”
Regulus narrowed his eyes. “That’s rich, coming from someone who—”
Before he could finish, a crack echoed behind them.
“Oi, where are you two sneaking off to?”
They turned to see Sirius standing there, grinning like an absolute menace. Next to him was Remus, who was already shaking his head as if he knew what was coming.
Regulus groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Merlin, no.”
Y/N sighed. “Sirius, please tell me you’re not about to ruin the first peaceful moment we’ve had in years.”
Sirius gasped mockingly. “Ruin? Moi?”
Regulus turned on his heel. “I’m leaving. Goodbye.”
Y/N turned to follow him, only for Sirius to throw an arm around both of them. “Now, now, don’t be hasty! What if I told you that Moony and I have a brilliant idea?”
Regulus deadpanned. “Your ‘brilliant ideas’ landed me in detention for half my school career.”
Remus, ever the peacekeeper, cleared his throat. “We thought, since you’re finally free of parental duties for the time being, we’d take you both out for a celebratory drink.”
Y/N hesitated, glancing at Regulus.
Regulus stared at them both. Then, after a long pause, he exhaled. “Fine. One drink.”
Sirius whooped. “That’s the spirit, little brother!”
Y/N smirked, looping her arm through Regulus’s. “Alright then. But if anyone interrupts our first actual night alone after this, I will commit crimes.”
Sirius grinned. “Now that’s the Y/N I know.”
Regulus muttered under his breath, but Y/N caught the fond glint in his eye as they all walked off together.
Maybe they’d get their peaceful night soon.
…Hopefully.
For the first time in years, Regulus and Y/N found themselves sitting across from each other at a dimly lit, elegant restaurant—alone. No children, no interruptions, no impromptu crises requiring immediate parental intervention. Just them, a bottle of wine, and a table set for two.
Regulus exhaled, leaning back in his chair as he swirled the wine in his glass. “It’s almost unsettling, isn’t it?”
Y/N smirked, taking a sip of her own. “That we’re not breaking up sibling arguments or stopping the twins from attempting another ‘scientific experiment’? Absolutely.”
Regulus huffed. “Last time, they nearly set my study on fire. I still don’t know how they got their hands on Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder.”
Y/N grinned. “They are our grandchildren.”
Regulus sighed, shaking his head. “Unfortunately.”
A comfortable silence settled between them as they enjoyed their meal. It was almost strange, remembering what it felt like to just be—without parenting, without work, without constant noise.
Regulus watched Y/N as she ate, the candlelight flickering against her face. “You know,” he said, setting down his fork, “I forgot how nice it is to just sit and look at you.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow. “I’m in our house every day, Reg.”
“Yes, but usually, I’m dodging incoming Quidditch gear, confiscating enchanted objects, or ensuring that Hazzy and Danny’s children don’t turn the furniture into something alive.” He smirked. “You’re a bit of a blur in the chaos.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, but her lips twitched into a smile. “Well, go on then. Stare all you want.”
Regulus took full advantage of the invitation, his gaze lingering on her with quiet appreciation. “You’re just as breathtaking as the day I met you.”
Y/N felt warmth creep up her neck. “You always were a dramatic bastard.”
“And yet, you married me.”
“Terrible life choice, really.”
Regulus smirked, lifting his glass. “To terrible life choices, then.”
Y/N clinked her glass against his. “To us.”
For a while, they simply enjoyed the moment. The peace. The feeling of being Regulus and Y/N instead of Baba and Mama.
Then, just as their dessert arrived, Regulus stiffened.
“What?” Y/N asked, confused.
Regulus narrowed his eyes toward the entrance.
There, just outside the restaurant, were Harry and Danny, peeking through the window with identical grins.
“…They followed us,” Regulus muttered, looking personally betrayed.
Y/N groaned, dragging a hand down her face. “Unbelievable.”
Danny waved innocently. Harry gave a thumbs-up.
Regulus lifted his napkin and covered his face. “I’m pretending I don’t see them.”
Y/N took a long sip of wine. “We raised menaces.”
“Your fault.”
“You married me.”
Regulus sighed, peeking over his napkin. Danny and Harry were still there. Watching. Grinning.
“We’re locking the Floo when we get home,” Regulus mumbled.
Y/N smirked. “Deal.”

Gilded Constellations | (wolfstar x reader)

Series Masterlist | Previous episode
Pairing: Wolfstar x Reader Word Count: 9 K Warnings: Angst (like pretty much every chapter so far). ♡THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS SMUT ♡: fingering, hand job, P in V, lots of kissing and teasing. Soft!Sirius. Consent is Sexy! Prompt: At the Potter's, Sirius and Reader take a small little detour in the woods. This IS a Wolfstar x reader fic, but it's incredibly slow burn. They won't start all dating each other until we're very deep into the story, but I promise the long wait will be worth it.

Chapter 50: Love the One You’re With
♡ SMUT UNDER THE CUT ♡
January, 06th, 1977
Spending time with the boys, planning the prank, and exploring the grounds of Potter Manor had been as distracting as you could expect it to be. James had woken you every day at around 10 am for flying –he’d borrowed you one of his old brooms– and even Remus had joined since it wasn’t unspeakably early like normally.
You hadn’t seen him fly very often, but he was as good as any of the boys. If he trained, he could have even become better than James. He also joined smaller quidditch matches that you played with the boys, and while he hadn’t trained as much as either of you, he had a mean-as-hell arm for beating. You could tell Sirius had a hard time returning his bludgers, you decided not to test your luck and avoided them altogether. Even if Remus seemed to always be checking if you were alert before throwing one your way, they flew so fast, that you barely had time to step out of their trajectory.
You were thankful that the boys hadn’t tried to talk about what happened further, not even Effie who seemed to always look at you with a small frown on her soft features. As if she wanted to approach you and talk things out but was also refraining from doing so.
Even James, who tended to be a little too wrapped in his head seemed to be extra considerate, and he was clearly trying to keep you entertained. Be it flying, prank designing, asking you to help him with the letter he would send to Lily, or inventing games for everyone to play, he wasn’t letting anyone have a free moment in which any of you could start moping.
And you were more than thrilled it had been that way, you were still trying to avoid your feelings, pretending as if all of it hadn’t happened wasn’t as hard as you thought it might be outside of the bubble of the cottage, in fact with James being so hell-bent on entertaining all of you, you barely even had time to consider the difference. Besides, there was something else occupying your mind.
Remus was acting weird again, and you still weren’t sure what was going on with him. You also weren’t enough of a hypocrite to ask him to talk it through with you when you had barely done the same yourself. Either way, you kept your eyes on him often, trying to read his expressions –never his mind thought– to see if you could use body language and wit to understand what was going on with your best friend.
“I’m knackered,” you said as you threw yourself on the sofa. You had been playing all day and Remus and Sirius had been ruthless while trying to throw you and James off your brooms while you chased the snitch. He had won.
“At least you’ll become better at dodging this way,” James said as he handed you a glass of water and sat beside you.
“I’m already pretty good at dodging.”
“You might hold the record of getting hit by the most balls at this point, Starshine,” Sirius said as he sat on the small wooden table in front of you and Prongs. Remus plopped right next to you and sank into the sofa.
“My arms hurt,” he complained. “Don’t yours?”
“Nope,” Sirius said, popping the p. Remus might have been stronger, but he wasn’t used to beating almost every day in the same way Sirius was. He never thought he’d be able to boast about having more condition than his best friend the werewolf and he was positively beaming because he wasn’t half as tired as Remus looked.
You took a sip of the water James had given you and passed it to Remus who looked even thirstier than you felt, he took it gladly, his hands brushing over yours as they normally would. As if his tiredness made him forget why he’d placed a distance between the two (or at least more than normal, you were still closer to him than you were to most people, he was your best friend, after all).
“Okay, you may rest 5 minutes, then we’re going to see if we find more tadpoles”
“Prongs, mate, there’s no way in hell I’ll go search for tadpoles, I want a shower and a bed,” Remus said.
“That,” you said as you pointed at Rems. “Actually sounds lovely, we should all do that instead.”
“No,” Sirius said as he stood up and extended his hand your way. “I want to show you something.”
“Sirius,” you whined, sinking deeper into the sofa.
“Come on, you’ll love it.” You pouted. “I can carry you there if you want.”
You sighed and stood up while grumbling something about wanting to rest for at least just a bit when James took hold of your arm. “But the tadpoles–”
“Prongs, she’s coming with me now, go write a letter for Lily or whatever.”
“Without Vixen?” he asked mortified, Remus laughed.
“Don’t send it until someone sane has checked it, at least.”
“She can’t continue being your cupid,” Remus added. “You’ll have to sway Lily by yourself.”
You laughed. “As if he hadn’t asked Sirius all the tips and tricks before hooking up with her.”
“Not a hook-up,” James corrected. “We’re dating, I’m not like Moony.”
A pillow hit James’ face after that. “I’m tired, not deaf,” Remus grumbled, he was especially cranky because the moon would be the following day, you had already made arrangements for it. The Potters knew about Remus’ condition and they’d leave the perimeters so you could handle everything by yourselves in your animagi form.
“Well, you’ve never had an actual girlfriend. And you were playing around with that Ravenclaw girl, who by the way, I didn’t like all that much either.”
“Alice is nice!” you said quickly. She was a little boy crazy and she enjoyed being a free spirit, but she was a good girl, very clever too.
“I’m not saying she isn’t. But Remus didn’t love her. If anything I’d say he liked you more than he ever liked her.”
Remus panicked the minute James said that, but it flew right past both you and Sirius. “Well that’s because I’m amazing, Prongs,” you said with a smile and shot him a wink.
“Not what I meant,” he responded in a more serious tone.
“How about you all stop discussing my love life and start worrying about your own?”
“Will you help me with the letters? Maybe you know a poem that could help me sway her.”
“No,” Remus said dourly.
“Oh, he knows many,” you teased.
“I’m still not gonna help him.”
“But Moony!” Prongs said with a pout and allowed his head to fall on Moony’s legs, he got shoved off shortly after. You laughed, even though something in the back of your mind told you there was something wrong with the entire ordeal. Sirius does that all the time and he never gets more than an annoyed glance, you realised. Then again, James had just insulted Moony, and Moony could be really petty when he wanted to, especially near the moon.
“How about this… I’ll get you one of mom’s relaxing bath bombs, and you help?” Luckily for James, he could be persistent as hell when he wanted to.
Moony groaned in return and turned to James. “You think you can add something for muscle pain?”
“Playing again tomorrow helps with that,” Sirius said as he ruffled Remus’ hair, who in turn, shoved his hand off and threw him a spiteful look. “We’ll leave you boys to it then,” he said with a shrug wrapping his hand in yours to pull you along with him.
“Where are you taking me?” You asked as you reached the door and he grabbed a thick coat, placing it around your shoulders and then placing a hat over your head that was so long you had to push back to be able to see again. Sirius took one of Remus’ coats and placed it around himself.
“He charmed it, it’s warmer,” he said casually as he accommodated it. “And… it’s a surprise.” Had he really taken Remus’ sweater because it was warmer? He wasn’t entirely sure, but he had seen his and James’ and yours (borrowed by Effie), and Remus’ had seemed the best choice. You hadn’t even noticed he had taken Remus’ until he mentioned it was warmer.
You pursed your lips and sighed, nodded and followed along Sirius, who still holding your hands in his, was walking you through the billowy blanket of snow that stretched all the way to the small forest. You had seen the forest before, the boys had taken you there a couple of times and while you hadn’t actually seen the entire thing, the Potters had mentioned it was safe, and that it had been in the family for generations –nothing like the Forbidden Forest back in Hogwarts.
“Will you really not tell me where we’re going?”
“No, close your eyes.” He responded. “Go on!”
You shook your head with a small scoff but did as told. He placed his hands over your face. One of them was warm –the one he had around yours– but the other one was a little colder, which made you flinch back and crash against him. He chuckled breathily and you could feel his breath on your neck.
“If you wanted for us to stand closer you could have said so, Étoile.”
You huffed in response. “Next time you put your freezing hands on my face, I’ll throw snow down your shirt.”
“Don’t be like that,” he said with a pout and pressed a kiss to your cheeks. His lips were also rather cold, but you didn’t mind them touching you at all. “Careful there’s a branch,” he said as he guided you through the forest.
“Are we close?”
“Almost,” Sirius replied. “To the left,” he added as he pushed you to the side for you to get past another obstacle.
You must have given 15 other steps. You felt the weather get slightly humid and… kind of warmer? “Sirius what is–”
“Open your eyes,” he interrupted and removed his hands from your face and placed them on your shoulder instead.
There was a small round pool, surrounded by trees, although the sun still shone through some of them. There was steam piling on top of the water and the water itself was so pale, that it almost looked silver, like Sirius’ eyes. You leaned down and curiously dug your hand. The water was indeed warm, but when you pulled your hand out along with it, it rained down in a colourful, rainbow-like, manner.
You dug your hand again and agitated it inside the water, the ripples were just as colourful as the stream that had dropped from your hand, turning the silvery water into a splendid visage. You had heard of things like this but you had never actually seen them.
“Is this–”
“Yeah,” Sirius said as he leaned down next to you. “A vieux fae thermal pool. Legend says Nymphs each had one of these to warm themselves in winter and invite their Nereid friends. James and I found it a few years ago while exploring and we lost it. I found it again while looking for the Tadpoles and thought you had to see it.”
“There weren’t any here, were they?” you teased and he shook his head with a laugh. He also placed his hand on the water, but it didn’t tint all the wonderful colours like it had with your hand. It was only silvery shiny ripples.
You leaned your hand towards his in the water, and the moment you touched it, the colours came back. “It must be your fae heritage,” Sirius said. “It certainly didn’t make those colours when James and I swam inside.”
“You swam inside?” You gasped, turning to him in disbelief. “Don’t you know that pisses off the fae?”
“There are no fae here,” he responded. “They made a deal with Prong’s family long ago. They switched lands or something like that. Effie was scandalised when we told her the thermal pool we’d found thinking there was fae in the house,” he chuckled, “but Monty was quick to tell her about it.”
“Does that mean… we can get swim without pissing anyone off?” You asked, a small smirk appearing on your lips.
“Indeed,” Sirius said, mirroring your expression.
Your smile grew wider and you quickly shrugged off the coat. It was cold, but the water would be warm enough once you were inside. Sirius copied you in an instant. Remus’ coat was carefully left on top of a rock, right next to yours. You discarded the hat and flipped Remus’ long-sleeved jumper over your head.
“Don’t you have any clothes of your own?” Sirius asked when he noticed you had one of his shirts under that.
“Shut up or I’ll actually swim with it,” you responded as you unlaced your trainers and took them off, placing them and your socks just beside the rock.
“But you’d ruin it!”
“Exactly,” you added before unbuttoning the thick pants you had on letting them drop on the floor. You were shivering slightly and missed the way Sirius’ gaze trailed your thighs as you stepped out of the pants and left them on the rock.
By the time you looked his way he had already averted your gaze, but his cheeks were slightly tinted. He pulled his hand back and yanked his shirt off from the back of the neckline, it had been so fast and so seamless that you couldn’t help but blink in surprise.
“Like what you see?” he teased.
“Oh shut up, Puppy,” you said before taking your own shirt off. Either way, Sirius had already seen you in underwear, you were not expecting him to get nearly as flustered as he did. “Turn around.”
“What?” He asked with a frown.
“Turn around, I don’t want to have wet underwear when we get out.”
He frowned and once he understood what you meant he swallowed and did as told. He was tempted to turn back, to see, but he fixed his eyes on the pile of clothes and tried not to think too much about it when he saw, first your bra, and then your knickers fall on the rock. He gulped and tried to focus his mind on something else, which proved rather unsuccessful since he could still see them on the rock.
There was a short splash, “You may turn now,” you said with a smile. He turned around. You were leaning against the edge, you had your face resting on your arms and he could see half of your back as it dipped into the rainbow colours that seemed to ripple away from you. Your scarred arm was in full view, and his gaze lingered over it just for a second before it went back to your face.
Your hair was wet and it was clinging to your head and there were a few droplets of water sliding from your cheek that shone like bubbles, or perhaps like oil spilt on the ground. He gulped thickly and stared, no wonder muggles were kidnapped by fae and drowned by mermaids willingly, he thought, he too would have gotten in willingly if he found you like that on a random walk in the woods. When you realised he was staring you smirked and tilted your head to the side. “Like what you see?”
He scoffed wryly at the way you threw his words back at him and smiled, biting his lip before tilting his head as well. “Turn around then,” he told you.
You smiled, and dipped back in the water, appearing back again with your back turned to him. He was quick to take off his underwear and jump in, you heard him sigh as the water helped him warm up again.
When the water stilled you turned around again. Sirius was staring at you with a sneaky little smile, paying close attention to how the water looked. He found it absolutely fascinating, the way your sole touch made the water change so naturally around you, he wondered what that same touch could do to him. It would certainly change some things.
“Stop it,” you said with a smile.
“I’m doing nothing!” he protested.
“You’re staring.”
“Well, you’re beautiful, you can’t blame me.”
You pouted and dipped half of your head in the water, only leaving your eyes above it before he noticed how embarrassed he’d made you. It’s not that Sirius didn’t take every chance he got to remind you how much he liked you, but you weren’t always naked while he said it.
He smirked, “Are you flustered?”
You splashed him with water in retort, the water flying in all sorts of magical colours and turning silver the minute it clashed with his skin, like his eyes.
“Oi!” he complained as he wiped his face with the back of his hands.
“This reminds me of Mexico.”
“This is nothing like Mexico,” he responded, while he avoided staring at the valley of your breasts, he was sure the waves and ripples you were both creating could –if they wanted to– stop covering most of them and flash him in the process.
“What do you mean? There’s water, you’re being a bit of an idiot, trying to seduce me with your pretty words–” he splashed you now, the silvery water falling in colourful droplets onto your face. “See? You’re even splashing me when I call you out!”
“You think I’m trying to seduce you?” He asked with a smirk, taking a step closer.
“Aren’t you always?” you retorted.
He hummed in response, cocking his head to the side with a devilish smile, he looked bewitching, his curls were wet and cascading around his face, the ripples of colour reflecting in his eyes, sometimes it was staggering how gorgeous he was, but he knew the effect he had on you and he loved it.
“Perhaps I am,” he said as he took another step closer. “But you love every bit of it, don’t you, Starshine? You love it when I call you pretty, and when I whisper in your ear how much I like you, the way you laugh, the way you look at me, the way you smell.”
You knew what he was doing, and you threw another splash of water his way before pushing yourself to the side and swimming around him. He laughed at your reaction and threw some water back, silvery and colourful water droplets clashing against each other and your faces.
You dipped your head in the water and circled him until you stood behind him, then leaned a little closer, placing both hands on his shoulders and using them as leverage to float a little. Leaning in even further and resting your head on his neck, not quite allowing the rest of your body to touch his, not yet.
“Do you mind?” you asked as you wrapped one of your arms over his shoulder.
“Not at all,” he said, voice short. Neither of you had forgotten that under the ripples of the silvery water, you were both bare. He turned his head and pressed a soft, and quick kiss to your cheek. “You feel really soft,” he added.
“You’ve felt me plenty of times.”
He stifled a laugh at the innuendo in your words, “I meant slippery.”
You hummed in response, “You do too… but not soft,” you added as you sneaked one of your hands on his bicep, it was still toned after he practised beating with Rem, more than normal if you might say so yourself.
“Tease,” he said as he shoved you with his shoulder, stopping when he felt your breast brush against his skin. “Sorry,” he muttered quickly. He had felt your breasts before, while making out, but never on his back and he hadn’t dared to sneak his hand under your bra either.
“It’s okay,” you said and leaned a little closer, allowing them to fully rest on his back. He flushed when he felt your nipples, perky against his muscles. “I don’t mind if you don’t.”
“I certainly don’t,” he replied and thanked the heavens the water was all sorts of colours instead of clear, or you would have seen his –very evident now– reaction to your closeness. “Are you flustered now?” you asked when you noticed the slight blush creeping up his neck.
“It’s the cold,” he rushed out.
“Is it?” you teased and brushed your hand over his arm again. “And here I thought I was turning you on.”
He turned his head to look at your face with eyebrows raised, surprised at your words.
“Starshine…” he warned.
You gave him an innocent look in return, “Yeah?”
“Who’s seducing who, now?”
“Still you,” you said with a small smirk, reaching out to brush one of his curls behind his ear. You pressed a soft kiss to his cheek before pulling back to admire him again, your fingers tracing circles near his collarbone.
“You think?” he asked as he turned his head to yours, his lips dangerously close to your own.
“Definitely,” you whispered, his lips were almost brushing yours. He closed the gap, it was a small kiss at first. But you leaned in closer and his tongue was in yours in no time. You were slowly slipping from his shoulder and in front of him while you kissed. He placed both of his hands on the back of your neck when you were in front of him, pulling your head closer and using his thumbs to brush your hair out of your face.
“You’re stunning, you know that?” he asked as he pulled apart for a second and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Sometimes all I can think of is you,” he added. Sometimes it’s Remus. He kissed you again when that thought crossed his mind.
One of his hands moved to your arm, and then to your waist, lingering only for a second on the side of your breast, as if he wanted to touch but wasn’t sure if you’d want that too. “Go ahead,” you said as you pulled from the kiss and whispered into his mouth. He seemed hesitant at first, but when you went back to kiss him he traced his fingers from your waist towards the lower side of your breast. He brushed his thumb before he wrapped his hand around it, he deepened the kiss and you almost melted under his touch.
Neither you nor him had gotten this far before while making out, you loved it, you couldn’t think of anything other than Sirius and you certainly didn’t want to think of anything other than him. You’d been thinking too much already. You pushed your body into his but he pulled his hips back and placed both hands on your shoulders to hold you in place.
“Wait,” he said, panting. “You don’t want to do that.”
You cocked your head before you realised what had happened. “Sirius…”
“Just one second,” he said, his eyes were closed shut and he had a small frown as if he was trying to concentrate on something.
You smirked when he realised what was going on and giggled, placing your hand on his cheek before tentatively leaning closer to him again. “Weren’t you the one teaching Prongs all of your knowledge on the train?”
His head snapped your way and he swallowed. “Yes but, we’ve– you’ve never… not really.”
“Sirius, we've been going out for months.”
“Exactly! And we’ve never even gotten past, you know!”
“We do get interrupted rather often,” you said in agreement. “I doubt we’ll get interrupted now, though.”
“But you’re naked,” he added as he motioned his head down, “Me too.”
“Mhm,” you said as you leaned in to kiss him again, Placing your hand on his chest and then slowly sliding it down his chiselled abdomen you added, “That’s kind of a requirement for it.” When you reached down, you were not expecting to feel him as hard as he was, you pulled your hand back tentatively. “Is this why you pulled back?”
He averted your gaze, and you smiled. “Sorry…”
“Oh don’t be,” you said as you lowered your hand again, wrapping it around his cock, he groaned in response. “I just thought with your experience… it would take a little longer for you to– you know.”
“You’ve been teasing since you shrugged off your coat, what did you expect?” he responded, you moved your hand. ”Fuck.”
“You’ve never gotten like this while making out…”
“You’ve never been naked while we’re making out. You’ve never teasingly placed your nipples on –shit.”
“It’s okay,” you coed, and pressed a small kiss to his cheek.
You flicked your wrist and gripped him again, brushing his tip with your thumb and he moaned, louder than you had ever heard him moan, it sent a thrill down your spine.
“Hold up–” he said and lowered one of his hands to your stomach. “May I?” He was panting from the way you were pleasuring him, flushed and he looked like it was hard for him to form proper thoughts, and yet here he was, head slightly tilted down, asking if he could touch you.
You nodded in response. He bit his lip at your words and lowered his hands further down, tracing your slit slowly with his index and then using a different one to part his way in, he wasn’t sure how he didn’t cum the minute he felt you. It was all slippery, and he couldn’t tell if you were turned on, or if it was just the water, so he was slow and tender as he moved his fingers up and down your slit.
“Is that good?”
“Mhm,” you said as you moved your own hips to chase his fingers. “There,” you added as one of his fingers brushed against your clit.
“Like this?” he asked as he circled, “or this?” he added as he moved his finger over it, in an up-and-down motion instead.
“Fuck,” you said as you laid your head on his shoulder, your movements on his cock becoming dumber as his on your clit became more determined.
“Okay, I see,” he smirked when he found a pace that you liked, he lowered his fingers a bit further and teased your entrance. “Would you like it if–”
“Please,” you pretty much whined. He smiled, loving the effect he had on you and pulled you back for a kiss, you moaned into his mouth when you felt his finger tease your entrance again, slowly sliding in.
“You’re so fucking tight,” he sighed as he shut his eyes and pressed his forehead onto your shoulder, you squeezed your walls around his finger in return and he let out another curse. “You might kill me if you do that when I’m inside.” And then he pulled back and looked at you, his eyes moving rapidly as they looked for yours. “If you want it, of course.”
You pressed a soft kiss to his lips, “I’d love it.”
You smirked and he used the hand that wasn’t occupied touching you, and slid it behind your waist, and then lower until he squeezed your ass, “You think you can take another one?” he asked as he teased your entrance with another finger, you nodded and he pulled the one inside off you out and then slowly slid the two of them in, this time making sure he was brushing your clit with his thumb the way that made you moan. Your hand on his cock faltered and he instantly took in his and wrapped it around his neck. “I can’t tell if you’re wet, Luv, you’re gonna have to tell me when you’re ready.”
You pressed a kiss to his neck in response, and he continued with his expert movements. Now opening his fingers slightly, trying to make sure he’d be able to get in.
“I think I’m ready,” you said while panting, your hips were bucking against his hand now, searching for more friction, but Sirius was being careful, he didn’t want to hurt you, he wanted it to be special since it was your first time with each other.
Forget that you were inside a Nymph pool and that because of your fae descendance, there were rainbow colours all around, he wanted you to feel special.
He slowly pulled his hand out, you bit your lip and at the lack of friction and were quick to close the gap between your bodies again, he groaned when he felt your slit brush next to his cock. You smiled and moved your hip again, enjoying the feeling of sensitive skin against it. He wasn’t even inside you and he already felt like cumming.
You lowered your hand in between your bodies, he held you from your waist, chest against chest so it was up to you to accommodate the two. You took his cock in your hand again and moved it over your slit two times, allowing his tip to brush against your clit which only got you going even more. “Ready?” You asked.
He wasn’t sure he’d managed to come up with a word so he merely nodded. Your forehead was against his as you guided his cock inside you. He was slow and steady, not moving at all and allowing you to be the one to push into him rather than the other way around. He bottomed out and opened his eyes to stare at you. “You good?” he breathed.
“Mhm,” you said with a nod and placed a short kiss on his lips.
“I’m gonna move,” he warned, and slowly moved out, only a little, and then he went back in again. He moved his hands from your waist to your ass to help with the movements and you placed yours around his neck. He traced your ass until he found the place where your bodies met and touched it as he thrusted into you, imagining how beautiful you looked underneath the water, perhaps as lovely as you looked above it.
You were using him as leverage, both of your hands on his shoulders but you craved more friction. So you wrapped one of your arms around his neck, leaning in closer to him and sliding the other one down your bodies. You too were curious as to how that looked, but you’d definitely be able to see it on a different day. You started circling your hand on your clit when he noticed what you were doing. He couldn’t quite move his hands away from your ass since there was nothing you could recline on, but he hated the idea of you having to do it yourself.
He leaned down and pressed a kiss to your cheeks, then further down and down until he reached your lips. You lifted your head to meet his halfway and he kissed you, slow and steady, much slower than the way he was thrusting into you underneath the glistening water, the coordination was absolutely exhilarating.
“Luv,” he said softly, focusing your eyes on your face. “May I turn you around? I feel I could make you feel better that way.”
“You feel you could?” you asked wryly, biting your lips at the thought. He wasn’t only thinking of his pleasure, that had been evident since he asked to touch you but it still sent butterflies down your stomach. The boastful and sometimes a little self-absorbed Sirius cared so much about the way he was making you feel. “Let’s try it then.”
He pressed another kiss to your mouth and slowly got out of you, using his hands to turn you around, one under your breast and the other one guiding your hips. He cursed when your ass brushed over his cock and you repeated the hip movement under the water which only got a hiss from him. “Such a tease,” he said with a smile as he pressed a kiss to the curve of your neck, moving his hand on your hips to search for your entrance again. He too teased a couple of times, making sure to brush his tip against your clit like you had done earlier which elicited a short, quiet moan from you.
“You can make all the noise you want,” he said with a smile, and then got in, a lot faster this time around. He wrapped his aiding hand around you and left it on your lower stomach as he moved the other one to your breast.
He looked at you as if asking for permission before settling it there, and then he started to move again. But the hand on your lower stomach slid down and he started to touch you, in the same way he learned you liked earlier.
“Good?”
“Great,” you panted. Soon both of you were panting and moaning, and the sound of the water, along with the distant chirping of birds and other sounds of the wintery forest surrounding you had you both completely lost in each other. The cacophony of sounds, organic and lewd, soft and deep, moaning and grunts and pleas, all of them combining into the perfect atmosphere. You wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, even if you could.
“I think I have to… quick,” he added as he gently pushed you off of him. You quickly turned around and placed one of your hands on his shoulder as you reached down, wrapping your hand around his wrist and moving it away from his cock. You then wrapped your hand around him.
“Like this?” you asked gently.
“You can grip a little tighter,” he said, eyes squeezed shut, “and move your hand a little faster.”
“Okay,” you said and did as told. Stroking him with purpose, he moved one of his hands to your shoulder and cursed under his breath.
“Fuck,” he panted. And you instantly knew he was cumming. You kept moving your hand on him, milking him all the way through although you couldn’t be sure if he had or not finished completely. You lowered your pace only when he started to go soft. He pressed a small kiss to your lips, “You’re bIoody fantastic.”
You smiled, and wafted towards him, wrapping your legs around his waist and leaning in for a kiss. He was quick to wrap his arms around your back and hold you in place. When you pulled back from the kiss he started to place soft kisses all over your face, you could tell he was tired, his movements softer, and a lot more gentle than before –not that he had at any point stopped being gentle.
Then you leaned down a little, sliding your cheek on his until your mouth was close to his ear. “Next time I’ll be taking Minnie’s potion,” you said and pressed a kiss to his cheek before pushing yourself off him and biting your lip.
“You’re such a tease, I swear!” he scolded with a laugh and moved forward to wrap you in his arms and kiss you again. Then it was he who leaned closer to you, and whispered, “Next time I’ll take my sweet time with you, Sweets. You’ll cum more than me.”
It wasn’t just words, it was most definitely a promise, you realised as you felt yourself getting aroused again. You searched for his lips again and you made out for a few more minutes. Sometimes soft kisses, sometimes desperate ones, enough to pull at each other’s hair –you loved pulling at his hair.
“We better get back,” you said, pulling apart from a kiss as you realised the weather was going dark again. You were not eager to walk in a snowy forest in the dark again, fearing whatever kind of memories it could trigger back. The same kind you had been trying to bury so deep inside your mind the past few days that if you allowed them out, they might break you appart. You were not eager to cry, especially not after your first time with Sirius.
“Can’t we stay a little longer?” he asked with a pout, tightening his grip on your waist.
You looked around, and he was quick to see the anxiety in your face, “It’s kind of getting dark.”
If he hadn’t heard the falter in your voice, perhaps he would have teased you further. Instead, he nodded, “You’re right, they might come looking for us and then we’ll actually be in trouble” he added with a grin.
“As if that’s ever bothered you,” you smiled and pressed a kiss to his lips before separating from him and swimming towards the edge of the small pool. You used your hands as leverage to raise yourself from the water.
Sirius let a low whistle from behind. “Ugh, you’re such a dog!” you scoffed while trying to hold your laughter. You were sure he had done it to piss you off.
“Just appreciating my gorgeous girlfriend,” he said casually, and you kicked some water towards his face.
“Fuck it’s cold,” you said as you got out and covered. yourself with your arms. Sirius was out in a second, he placed his coat –technically Remus’– over your shoulders.
“Wait! It’ll get wet,” you said as you removed it and turned around to hand it forward, Sirius was looking at you with loving eyes, and you couldn’t help but blush. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“I don’t care.”
You rolled your eyes and shook your head. “But I do, hand me your wand, please.”
He was quick to summon his wand in the same way he used to summon a broom and then handed it over to you, brushing his fingers with yours. You used a warming spell to dry yourself as quickly as possible and handed it back to him, he allowed his fingers to linger on yours before doing the same. You shrugged off the coat while you walked to the rock in search of your undies.
“Looking for this?” he teased, there was mirth in his eyes as he dangled your knickers in the air with one finger.
You were covering your chest with one of your arms and he was looking at you with that mischievous look of his. You tilted your head to the side and narrowed your eyes at him. He extended his hand your way and when you reached to grab them he pulled back again, dragging them to his face and giving them a deep and long sniff.
You looked at him aghast and actually laughed, “You really are a dog.”
“And you’re my pretty vixen, aren’t you?” he said with a smile and threw the knickers your way. You caught them easily and shook your head.
“Vixen am I not?” you responded with a teasing smile and turned around. And in one of the boldest moves you had ever done, you leaned down, exposing your ass to him as you slowly, and dreadfully sensually –or as sensually as you could muster– slid your knickers back on.
“That’s not fucking fair,” he said as he adjusted his –now tighter– boxers.
“Suck it up,” you said simply and finally stood straight, leaning down to take your bra and putting it on quickly.
You reached for your shirt –technically his– but he already had it in his hands and held it over your head, helping you put it, even with your back still to him. When the shirt was fully on, he dug his hand underneath it and squeezed you closer to him. Burying his face in the nape of your shoulder. “Biggest tease ever,” he mumbled into your shoulder. His shirt smelled delicious, like you and– and Remus, fucking hell Sirius, stop it, he thought.
“I’m only letting you hug me because you’re warm.”
He teasingly pinched your side. “Lie to yourself all you want, Starshine. You love having my arms around you.”
You hummed in response and stayed like that for a bit. “Sirius?”
“Mhm?”
“You still haven’t put on a shirt, have you?” He grumbled something akin to no. You laughed and squirmed away from him, leaning in quickly to grab his shirt and throwing it at his face. “You’ll catch a cold, you dumbass.”
He caught it quickly and put it on, “would have been worth it.”
“It wouldn’t have,” you retorted. “I wouldn’t be able to cuddle you if you were sick.”
“I see, you want to cuddle me more then,” he teased.
“You were the one clinging onto me earlier,” you sassed in return and pulled your pants up. “Could you pass me the jumper?”
He grabbed Moony’s jumper and threw it your way, you were quick to pull it over your head and then walked towards the rock to put on your shoes and socks. After that, you took both coats from the rock and passed him over the one he had thrown over you while wet –that you had half dried with a spell– and you put on the one you had brought.
Once you were ready Sirius gave you a short smile and walked towards you, reached his hand towards you and intertwined your fingers, then tilted his head as he motioned for you to follow his lead. Sirius didn’t let go of you at all on the way back, who would have thought he was a romantic?
Except, Sirius wasn’t glued to you just because he didn’t want to stop touching you, but also because he had seen how anxious you’d gotten at the prospect of walking in the snowy woods at night, and the last thing he wanted was for you to feel anything than pleased, so he made sure to never let go of you. Not while you walked through the forest, not while you walked through the open fields, and not even when you opened the door to the house.
“James, you can’t say that in a letter,” Remus said with an exasperated sigh. Both boys were sitting in the living room, James had a quill in his hand and was furiously crossing out something on a piece of paper and Remus was looking absolutely defeated like he both couldn’t and didn’t want to deal with James anymore.
“But why not?” James asked with a frown.
“Lily doesn’t even like Qudditch. And you said ‘in your eyes I see the goalposts of my dreams’, that’s objectifying. Not to mention how you said she was a Quaffle that you wanted to chase earlier.”
“But I would follow her to the ends of the earth.”
“That’s actually much better,” you said from the door with a smile, Sirius was trying not to laugh at both James and Remus’ relieved sighs when they spotted you. “Although a bit tacky, she might like it.”
“Thank Godric you’re here,” Remus spoke. Meanwhile, James scribbled that one line from earlier. “Where were you, anyway?”
“In the fae pool,” Sirius responded with a small, pleased smirk.
“Oh, cool,” James said, Sirius’ tone completely flying past his head. He turned to you. “You liked it? You were there a while.”
“Oh, she loved it,” Sirius added and you elbowed him.
“You’ll help me, right?” James asked, oblivious to the interaction that had just gone through, too immersed in his struggle to get the letter to look perfect, Remus had made him throw most of the things he’d written thus far.
But Remus, even though exasperated, wasn’t nearly as oblivious as James, and he was quick to catch on to your interactions. The way you elbowed Sirius, the way he was looking at you, your swollen lips and Sirius’ smug –yet flushed– demeanour. He knew that look, he hated that look. Back in the day, it had only reminded him of how out of reach Sirius was.
Today though? He didn’t even know how the fuck to feel. The image of the two of you all over each other in the thermal pool was looping over and over again in his mind, and it was the hottest thing he’d ever imagined. Fuck, he wished he had known, he wished he had taken the cloak and seen it happen with his own eyes. But at the same time, there was a pang in his heart, as if the wolf was reminding him: they’re not yours.
“Yeah sure,” you said, leaving the coat you had on the hanger and walking towards both boys, you kneeled down in between James and Remus. She smells like sex, Remus thought as you approached, the barely visible hickey on your neck too obvious for someone who knew you so well. He focused his gaze on Sirius, who looked really excited and sighed, standing up.
“I’ll go get a book,” he said as he stood up.
“I’ll come with,” Sirius said with a smile. He wanted to talk about it, he wanted to tell Remus all about it, well not all about it, but he definitely wanted to tell him how amazing you’d been.
“No, it’s fine, it won’t take me too much–”
“Nonsense,” Sirius said and walked behind Remus towards the staircase.
You gave both boys a short wave and then focused on James’ letter, now understanding why Remus was so done with James.
“Okay, what exactly do you want to say in the letter, James?”
“That I miss her a lot, that she’s stunning and gorgeous and that I want to see her again soon, and I want to invite her over too. Well, her and everyone.”
“Okay, and what does the quidditch pitch, the balls and all this gibberish about chasing and catching and keeping have to do with that?”
“Ugh… well-”
“–Exactly. You don’t need any of that,” you said simply. “Tell me, what do you like about Lily…”
It was then that your voices faded out completely and Remus was forced to focus on Sirius’. “When she touched the water, it turned into hundreds of different colours, it was stunning!”
“Yeah?” Remus asked, trying to distract himself with the books in James’ massive library, he was reading and rereading through the titles and Sirius continued talking about it.
“You should have seen it, Moony. The rainbows on the silvery water, it was like nothing I’d ever seen, and I’ve seen plenty of things…”
Remus hummed simply in response, pulling out a book, reading through the front cover, and flipping a few pages. The wolf inside was clawing at him, telling him to get angry and to snap at Sirius for taking what was his. His Vixen. His Padfoot.
“For fucks sake,” he muttered when he realized he had picked up one of those spicy romance novels you claimed he would be the cover of if it was about pirates.
Thankfully, Sirius was too busy talking his ear off to hear what he’d said. “I swear, it had never been like this Remus, and you know I’ve been with plenty of women before…” No matter how much he tried, it was not easy to ignore Sirius’ rambling. “It was as if I had been bewitched. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she had used fae magic on me, but she doesn’t have any.”
“She has charm,” Remus said with a sigh, “just not the one that comes along with magic.” He placed the book back on the shelf a little too forcefully and looked for a different title.
“It felt incredible.”
“Sirius,” Remus warned.
“She’s amazing, I didn’t think she would know but the way she–”
“SIRIUS!”
“What?” he asked with a frown.
“You think she would like you talking about it?”
“You’re her best friend, my best friend, it doesn’t count.”
“It does,” Remus said, turning to him now, a different book in his hands. He had enough images filling his mind without Sirius’ explicit tales. “And you’ve never been this specific before either.”
Sirius huffed, “As if you hadn’t gone around kissing and fucking Alice just months ago.”
“What does she have to do with any of this?”
Yeah, what does Alice have to do with any of this? Sirius wondered himself.
“Well– just that. You were kissing her at the Halloween party like you were eating her face off, and– I never told you off about it.”
Remus scoffed, “She kissed me at that party. In public, I didn’t go around talking about it, not about how great it felt or how incredible she felt, or how much better she was than anyone else I had been with before.”
Sirius swallowed, if he didn’t know better, he’d say Moony was jealous. But more important than that, he was irked by the idea of Alice being so incredible for Remus. “Well, if I don't tell you about it, then I’ll tell Prongs, I bet he’ll want to listen.”
Remus sighed, exasperated. “Sirius, that was your moment.” He squeezed his eyes as he let out a breath. “You and her.” Golden brown eyes locked on steel grey again, “A special moment, a wonderful moment.” He had a hard time saying “wonderful”, Sirius noticed that too. “And I’m happy for you, truly. For the both of you, it’s obvious you deeply care about the other, I can see how freaking in love you are with one another from kilometres away but– and I cannot emphasise this enough– I don’t need images of my two best friends fucking in the fae pool in my head.”
And he really didn’t need them, there were enough of them by now.
“I’m– I’m sorry,” Sirius stuttered. “I didn’t– I think I get what you mean,” he hadn’t liked the images of Remus fucking Alice either. Those had pissed him off, unlike James when he was descriptive of what he had done with Lily, he didn’t mind hearing those as much. “Do you think she’ll forgive me? I’ve gone and opened my big mouth, and it’s been hours since– Godric, I’m a total asshole.”
Remus sighed and shook his head, “I don’t think there’s much you could do that she wouldn’t forgive,” he said honestly. Not if you love him like he knew you did. “Besides, you’ve been forgiven for much worse things.” Sirius tried not to recoil in his seat at the thought of the incident with Severus.
By the time the two got back, you had already made a decent draft for Lily’s letter with James and he was looking for a fresh piece of parchment to write it with nicer handwriting.
“Found your book?” you asked when you spotted Moony by the stairs. He showed you a book in response. Sirius came behind him, he held a small stack of books in his hands.
“What you got there, Puppy?”
“Wand lore,” he said with a smile. “I thought perhaps there’s a way to fix your wand, or if you decide to actually use Nina’s–”
“Sirius!” Remus and James reprimanded at the same time.
“It’s okay,” you said simply. “I get what you’re trying to do,” you said simply and took one of the books from his hands. Opening and sitting on the armchair, not on the sofa, but on the armchair, where no one else would be able to sit. James and Remus threw Sirius a look and he mouthed a sorry while you focused on the book.
It was actually a really interesting book, enough to drag you away from those sad thoughts.
“Do you want to play Monopoly?” Sirius suggested after a while.
You yawned in response, “Maybe sleep?”
“Sounds great, you coming?” He asked Remus.
“No,” he said simply. “I’ll take the guest room today,” he added. Everyone turned to him with a frown. “Developed a bit of a sore throat, wouldn’t want to pass it on to any of you.”
Remus had never, in the entire time that you’d known him, developed a sore throat.
“Have you taken something?” You asked, concerned. “Is it maybe a Moony thing?”
“It might be just my screaming from the game earlier, but I’d rather not take any risks.”
You frowned, unconvinced. “Okay, see you tomorrow then.” He nodded. “We’ll miss you, Rem.”
He swallowed at that. “See you tomorrow.”
Remus did not need any more torture. He wasn’t sure he’d be able to keep it together if you cuddled all over him like you often did before turning. Either to tease him or just to talk. The idea of the three of you resting on the same bed, was too much for him to handle tonight. Especially with all the thoughts already roaming in his head, the moon being so close wasn’t of help at all.

who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames?...
seventh year
The Great Hall was buzzing with the usual lunchtime chatter. Students from all four houses mingled, their laughter and conversation filling the vast space. Plates clattered, and goblets clinked, but you barely noticed. Your eyes were fixed on a spot in the middle of the table, your thoughts miles away.
You could still remember the first time James had pulled you out into the rain.
fifth year
It had been a warm spring evening, the sky darkening with ominous clouds. You were supposed to be studying for a Potions exam, but James had other plans. With that mischievous glint in his hazel eyes, he had taken your hand and led you outside.
"What are we doing, James?" you had asked, half-laughing, half-exasperated.
"Dancing," he had replied simply, and with a dramatic bow, he had pulled you into a waltz right there on the soggy grass. The rain had poured down, drenching you both, but you hadn’t cared. You had twirled and laughed, your wet hair plastered to your face, his glasses fogging up. It had been pure, unfiltered joy.
“Y/N? Hey, Y/N!” Marlene’s voice snapped you out of your reverie. You blinked and looked around, suddenly aware of your surroundings again. The Great Hall, the noise, the chatter – it all came rushing back.
“Huh? What?” you said, shaking your head slightly as if to clear it.
“You were miles away,” Marlene said, her brow furrowed in concern. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, just…thinking,” you replied, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes.
Marlene studied you for a moment, then glanced over her shoulder. “Thinking about James?” she asked quietly.
You didn’t respond, but your silence spoke volumes. Marlene sighed and scooted closer to you, lowering her voice. “Y/N, you know it’s okay to still have feelings for him, right?”
“I don’t…” you started, but Marlene cut you off with a knowing look.
“Don’t lie to me. I’ve seen the way you look at him. And I saw how he looked at you when he walked in just now.”
Your heart skipped a beat, and you couldn’t help but glance over to where the Marauders were sitting. James was laughing at something Sirius had said, his head thrown back in pure amusement. For a moment, your heart ached with the memory of his laughter mingling with the sound of rain.
“Whose gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames?” Marlene said softly, echoing the words you had once whispered to her in confidence.
You swallowed hard, feeling a lump form in your throat. “It’s not that simple, Marlene. Things are different now.”
“Different how? You’re both still the same people. And I’ve seen the way he looks at you – like he’s lost without you.”
You shook your head. “We’ve both moved on. He’s with Lily now.”
“Are you sure about that?” Marlene asked gently. “Because from where I’m sitting, it looks like he’s just as lost as you are.”
You looked at James again, your heart aching. Could it be true? Could there still be a chance for the two of you? The memory of dancing in the rain was still vivid, a symbol of the love you had once shared. Maybe Marlene was right. Maybe it wasn’t too late to find your way back to each other.
Marlene squeezed your hand, giving you a small, encouraging smile. “Talk to him, Y/N. You owe it to yourself to find out.”
You nodded slowly, determination building within you. It was time to stop daydreaming and start living. Maybe, just maybe, there was still a chance to dance with James in the rain once more.

if you know it in one glance, it's legendary...
first year
James Potter stood on Platform 9 ¾, his eyes scanning the bustling crowd of students and parents. It was his first year at Hogwarts, and excitement coursed through his veins. He had already met Sirius Black, a boy with an equally mischievous glint in his eye, and they had quickly become fast friends. But as he looked around, his attention was suddenly captured by a girl standing a few feet away, saying goodbye to her parents.
She had an air of quiet confidence, her hair catching the sunlight in a way that made it seem to glow. She laughed at something her mother said, the sound clear and bright amidst the chaos of the platform. James couldn’t look away.
“If you know it in one glance, it’s legendary,” his father had once told him, speaking of love and destiny. James had scoffed at the time, but now he wondered if his father had been right. He didn’t even know her name, but he felt a pull towards her, something deep and inexplicable.
He was still staring when Sirius elbowed him in the ribs. “Oi, James, what’s got you so spellbound?”
James blinked, tearing his gaze away from the girl. “Nothing, just…looking around.”
Sirius followed his line of sight and smirked. “Ah, I see. Got your eye on someone already, eh?”
James felt his cheeks heat up. “Shut up, Sirius.”
The whistle of the train interrupted their banter, and students began boarding. James watched as the girl hugged her parents one last time before picking up her trunk and heading towards the train. On an impulse, he moved closer, wanting to catch her name.
“Do you need help with that?” he asked, stepping up and offering a hand.
She looked up at him, her eyes meeting his, and for a moment, James felt the world narrow down to just the two of them. “Thanks,” she said with a smile that made his heart race. “I’m Y/N.”
“James,” he replied, struggling to keep his voice steady. “James Potter.”
“Nice to meet you, James Potter,” she said, her smile widening. And just like that, she was gone, disappearing into the crowd of students boarding the train.
James stood there for a moment, staring after her, before Sirius dragged him onto the train.
Years later, James sat in the Gryffindor common room, the fire crackling softly in the hearth. Lily Evans sat beside him, her head resting on his shoulder as they talked quietly. He loved Lily – he knew that. She was brilliant, brave, and kind, everything he admired in a person. But sometimes, he found his thoughts drifting back to that moment on the platform, to the girl with the glowing hair and the infectious laugh.
“If you know it in one glance, it’s legendary,” his father’s words echoed in his mind, and he felt a pang of doubt.
“What’s on your mind, James?” Lily asked, sensing his distraction.
He looked at her, guilt washing over him. “Just thinking about old times,” he said, forcing a smile.
Lily reached up to touch his face gently. “You’re always thinking, aren’t you?”
James chuckled softly. “Yeah, I suppose I am.”
As Lily continued to talk, James tried to push the memories away. He had chosen Lily, and he loved her. But deep down, he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a part of him that would always be tied to that moment on the platform, to Y/N, and the way she had made him feel with just one glance.

in your suit and tie, in the nick of time...
Fifth Year
The Great Hall was buzzing with the usual Friday evening chatter, but tonight, there was a different kind of excitement in the air. James Potter, notorious for his messy hair and casual demeanor, stood nervously by the Gryffindor common room entrance, dressed in a sharp suit and tie. His friends, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, were nearby, watching with amusement as James fidgeted with his cuffs.
"You look great, Prongs," Remus said with a reassuring smile. "Relax, she's going to love it."
James adjusted his tie one more time and took a deep breath. "Thanks, Moony. I just want everything to be perfect."
Sirius grinned, nudging James playfully. "Don't worry, mate. Just remember to breathe and don't trip over your own feet."
James shot him a look but couldn't suppress a smile. "Thanks, Padfoot."
Just then, the common room door swung open, and you stepped out. James's breath hitched as he saw you in a beautiful dress, your eyes lighting up when you saw him.
"Hi, James," you said softly, blushing.
"Hi," he replied, equally bashful. "You look... amazing."
"So do you," you responded, your eyes sparkling with excitement.
James offered you his arm, and together you walked out of the castle, heading to a secret spot he had found—a cozy clearing in the Forbidden Forest, magically lit with floating lanterns and enchanted music. It was the perfect place for a dance.
As you both swayed to the music, James couldn't take his eyes off you. You giggled when he spun you around, and your laughter was infectious. You were both so wrapped up in the moment that you didn't notice Remus sneaking up with a Polaroid camera.
"Smile!" Remus called out, snapping a picture just as you and James looked over, caught mid-laugh, your faces glowing with happiness.
Sirius's voice rang out from behind, "Look at the lovebirds! Don’t get too carried away, Prongs."
James rolled his eyes but couldn't wipe the grin off his face. "Shut it, Padfoot."
You and James shared a knowing look, the teasing only adding to the magic of the evening.
Seventh Year
James Potter sat on his bed in the seventh-year boys' dormitory, the chaos of the day swirling around him. His eyes were fixed on a worn Polaroid photo he held gently in his hands. It was the picture Remus had taken that night two years ago, the night of your first dance.
In the photo, you and James were laughing, so clearly in love that it was almost tangible. James traced your smiling face with his thumb, a soft smile playing on his lips.
"Still staring at that old thing?" Sirius's voice broke through his reverie.
James looked up to see Sirius leaning against the doorframe, a knowing smirk on his face. "Yeah," James admitted, "I can't help it. That was one of the best nights of my life."
Sirius walked over and sat next to him, peering at the photo. "You two were adorable."
James nodded, his thoughts momentarily lost in the memory.
Sirius glanced at him, a more serious look in his eyes. "James, are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"
James looked up sharply, his brow furrowing. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, you and her were great together," Sirius said softly. "You loved her."
James sighed, his eyes drifting back to the photo. "I know, Sirius. But things changed. We grew apart. And now... now I'm with Lily."
Sirius leaned back, considering his friend's words. "Do you love Lily?"
James hesitated, his gaze fixed on the Polaroid. "Yeah, I do. It's just... it's different."
"Different how?" Sirius pressed gently.
James struggled to find the right words. "With her, it was easy. Natural. With Lily, it's... more complicated. But that doesn't mean it's not real."
Sirius nodded slowly. "Alright, then. As long as you're sure."
James slipped the photo into his pocket, standing up. "I am. I think."
Sirius clapped James on the shoulder. "Just make sure to keep making new memories, mate. Don't get stuck in the past."
James nodded, feeling a mix of nostalgia and uncertainty. He knew his past with you would always be a part of him, but he was determined to give his relationship with Lily his all. As he headed out to find Lily, he couldn't shake the lingering doubt, but he resolved to move forward, hoping to create even more unforgettable moments.

you said I'm the love of your life...
sixth year
The stars twinkled brightly above as you and James lay on a blanket in the Astronomy Tower, the cool night air filled with the scent of blooming flowers from the grounds below. It was a perfect night, far away from the chaos of school and the looming threat of exams. You had a small box of chocolate-covered strawberries between you, a treat James had managed to sneak past the house-elves.
James looked over at you, his eyes reflecting the starlight. "This is perfect," he murmured, a soft smile playing on his lips.
You picked up a strawberry, the chocolate glistening in the moonlight, and gently held it to his lips. He took a bite, closing his eyes in delight. "Delicious," he said, his voice filled with contentment.
You giggled, feeding him another piece. "I'm glad you like it."
As you continued to feed him the sweet treats, James reached out and took your hand, his fingers intertwining with yours. "You know," he began softly, "I've been thinking a lot lately."
You raised an eyebrow, curious. "Oh? About what?"
James's gaze was intense, filled with a mixture of nervousness and determination. "About you. About us."
Your heart skipped a beat. "What about us?"
He took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. "You mean everything to me. More than Quidditch, more than anything else at Hogwarts. I... I love you."
Your breath caught in your throat as you stared at him, his words hanging in the air like a sweet melody. "James..."
He squeezed your hand, his voice steady and sincere. "You’re the love of my life. I can’t imagine a future without you in it."
Tears welled up in your eyes, but they were tears of happiness. "I love you too, James. So much."
He pulled you closer, his arms wrapping around you as you both lay there, the stars above and the world below seeming to fade away. In that moment, nothing else mattered but the two of you and the love you shared.
As you fed him another strawberry, your heart swelled with joy and contentment. James Potter, with his messy hair and mischievous grin, had captured your heart completely, and you knew without a doubt that you were his, just as much as he was yours.
seventh year
The halls of Hogwarts were quieter than usual as you made your way to the Gryffindor common room. It had been a long day, and you were looking forward to relaxing by the fire. As you approached the entrance, you noticed the door slightly ajar and heard voices inside.
Curiosity piqued, you peeked through the crack and saw James and Lily standing by the fireplace. Your heart clenched. You and James had broken up a few months ago, and though you were trying to move on, it was still hard seeing him.
James's voice was soft, almost tender. "Lily, there's something I need to tell you."
Lily looked up at him, her green eyes curious and a bit nervous. "What is it, James?"
He took a deep breath, his usual confidence replaced by a vulnerability you rarely saw. "I've liked you for a long time, but it's more than that now. I love you, Lily. I think I always have."
Your breath caught in your throat, and you took an involuntary step back. The pain was sharp and immediate, like a dagger to the heart. You knew things had changed between you and James, but hearing him say those words to someone else was harder than you had imagined.
Lily looked stunned, her cheeks flushing a delicate pink. "James, I... I don't know what to say."
He reached out, gently taking her hand in his. "You don't have to say anything right now. I just needed you to know."
Unable to bear any more, you turned and walked away, your footsteps echoing in the empty hallway. Each step felt heavier than the last, the weight of his words pressing down on you.
Reaching an empty classroom, you slipped inside and leaned against the wall, struggling to hold back tears. The memories of your time with James flooded your mind—your first dance, the laughter, the love you once shared.
It was over now. He had moved on, and you knew you had to do the same. But in that moment, the pain was raw and real, and you allowed yourself to feel it, if only for a little while.

mr steal your girl, and make her cry..
The Gryffindor common room was buzzing with excitement. James and Lily had called everyone together for an announcement, and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. You stood near the back, feeling a mixture of curiosity and unease. You had your suspicions about what the announcement might be, but you tried to push those thoughts aside.
James and Lily stood by the fireplace, hands intertwined, both beaming with happiness. James cleared his throat, and the room fell silent.
"We have some exciting news to share," James began, his eyes shining as he looked at Lily. "Lily and I are getting engaged!"
The room erupted into cheers and applause. You forced a smile, clapping along with everyone else. You made your way through the crowd to offer your congratulations.
"Congratulations, James. Lily. I'm really happy for you both," you said, your voice steady despite the ache in your chest.
James smiled warmly at you. "Thanks. It means a lot."
Lily hugged you, her happiness radiating from her. "Thank you. We're so excited."
You nodded, the smile still fixed on your face. "You both deserve all the happiness in the world."
After a few more words, you excused yourself, claiming you needed some fresh air. You slipped out of the common room and wandered the halls, your heart growing heavier with each step. You found yourself outside an empty classroom and ducked inside, your composure finally breaking.
A few moments later, the door creaked open, and Remus and Sirius walked in. They had seen you leave and had followed, concern etched on their faces.
"Hey," Remus said gently, his voice full of empathy. "Are you okay?"
The tears you had been holding back began to flow, and you shook your head. "No, I'm not."
Sirius moved closer, his usual playful demeanor replaced with genuine concern. "Come here," he said softly, pulling you into a hug.
You collapsed into their arms, sobbing uncontrollably. The weight of everything—your broken relationship with James, seeing him so happy with Lily, and the future you had once imagined now completely out of reach—came crashing down on you.
Remus held you tightly, his voice soothing. "It's okay to feel this way. Let it out."
Sirius rested his chin on your head, whispering softly, "I'm sorry, love. Sometimes it feels like life's just Mr. Steal-Your-Girl-And-Make-Her-Cry."
Despite the tears, you let out a small, bitter laugh at Sirius's words. They stayed with you, offering comfort and support as you slowly began to gather yourself.
"It's going to be okay," Remus said, his voice steady. "We're here for you. Always."
You nodded, grateful for their friendship and support. Though the pain was still there, you knew you weren't alone. With Remus and Sirius by your side, you felt a glimmer of hope that you would find the strength to move forward.

you shit talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles..
Sixth Year
The Great Hall was transformed for the Halloween feast, filled with floating pumpkins, flickering candles, and enchanted bats swooping around the ceiling. The atmosphere was lively, with students chatting and laughing as they enjoyed the festivities. You and James sat side by side at the Gryffindor table, the warmth of his presence making the evening even more special.
Under the table, your hands were intertwined, a secret connection amidst the public celebration. James squeezed your hand gently, drawing your attention away from the decorations and back to him. He had that familiar mischievous twinkle in his eyes, but there was something deeper, more serious, behind it tonight.
As you reached for a goblet of pumpkin juice, James deftly took your other hand and slipped the ring from your middle finger. Your heart skipped a beat as he held your gaze, his touch sending shivers down your spine. He carefully placed the ring on your ring finger, his movements slow and deliberate.
"James?" you whispered, a mixture of curiosity and excitement in your voice.
He lifted your hand to his lips and kissed it tenderly, his eyes never leaving yours. "I can't wait to marry you and have a family with you," he said softly, his voice filled with sincerity and love.
Your breath caught in your throat, tears of joy welling up in your eyes. "James, I..."
He smiled, his expression tender. "I know we're still young, but I can't imagine my life without you. You're everything to me."
You felt a rush of emotions—love, happiness, and a deep sense of connection with the boy sitting next to you. "I love you, James. More than anything."
He leaned in, brushing a soft kiss against your lips, the world around you fading away as you shared that intimate moment. The noise of the feast, the laughter of your friends, and the decorations all seemed distant compared to the warmth and love you felt for each other.
As the evening continued, you couldn't help but glance at the ring now adorning your ring finger. It was a simple gesture, but it symbolized a promise—a future filled with love, commitment, and the dreams you and James shared. Holding hands under the table, you both knew that this was just the beginning of a beautiful journey together.
years later...
The cozy cottage in Godric's Hollow was filled with the soft coos and occasional cries of a newborn. You stood at the doorstep, a mix of anticipation and nerves swirling inside you. You hadn't seen James and Lily since they announced the birth of their son, Harry, and now you were here to meet the newest member of their family.
James opened the door, a tired but proud smile on his face. "Hey," he greeted, stepping aside to let you in. "Come on in."
You smiled warmly, stepping into the house. The living room was filled with baby items—blankets, toys, and a crib in the corner. Lily sat on the couch, cradling baby Harry in her arms. She looked up and smiled when she saw you.
"Hi," you said softly, approaching them. "Congratulations. He's beautiful."
"Thank you," Lily replied, her eyes shining with joy. "Would you like to hold him?"
You nodded, your heart pounding as you carefully took Harry into your arms. He was so small, his tiny fingers grasping at the air. You felt a rush of emotions—happiness for your friends, but also a twinge of bittersweet nostalgia for the dreams you once had with James.
James watched you with a mixture of pride and something else—guilt. He shifted uncomfortably, his gaze dropping to the floor.
"He's perfect," you said softly, your voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside you.
James cleared his throat, finally meeting your eyes. "I'm really glad you came. It means a lot."
You smiled, your voice gentle. "Of course, James. I wish you all the happiness in the world."
Lily looked between the two of you, sensing the unspoken history. She smiled warmly, trying to bridge the gap. "We have something we'd like to ask you."
You looked up, curiosity piqued. "What is it?"
Lily took a deep breath, her eyes sincere. "We would be honored if you would be Harry's godmother."
The weight of her words hit you, and you felt tears welling up. "Lily, I... I'd be honored. Thank you."
At that moment, Sirius appeared in the doorway, having just arrived. He took one look at the scene and immediately understood. His eyes narrowed at James, anger flickering in his gaze. He walked over and stood by your side, his presence comforting. He gently took your hand, offering silent support.
James shifted uncomfortably, his guilt evident. "We really do want you to be part of his life. It means so much to us."
Sirius's grip on your hand tightened slightly, his voice cold as he addressed James. "You don't get to just ask her to be godmother and think it makes everything okay, James."
You squeezed Sirius's hand, a silent plea for understanding. "It's alright, Sirius. I love Lily, James, and Harry. I want to be here for them."
Sirius looked at you, his expression softening, though the tension remained. "Are you sure? You don't have to do this if it hurts too much."
You nodded, your eyes filled with determination. "I'm sure. They need me, and I need them too."
As you stood there, holding baby Harry and surrounded by your friends, you felt a mixture of pain and healing. Life had taken unexpected turns, but there was beauty in the new connections and the love that still bound you all together.
"Welcome to the family, little one," you whispered to Harry, feeling Sirius's steady hand holding yours through it all.

i can't get out of bed, cuz something counterfeits dead...
The sunlight streamed through the windows of your cozy apartment, casting warm patterns on the walls. But despite the brightness outside, the room felt dim and heavy with sorrow. You lay in bed, cocooned in blankets, your thoughts consumed by memories of happier times with James.
Remus and Sirius had grown increasingly concerned about you. They knew you hadn't been yourself lately, spending more and more time alone, lost in your own thoughts. They had tried to give you space, but they couldn't ignore the pain they saw in your eyes.
Remus knocked softly on your bedroom door, poking his head inside. "Hey, how are you feeling today?"
You mustered a weak smile, though it didn't reach your eyes. "About the same."
Sirius followed Remus into the room, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "We brought breakfast," he said, holding up a tray laden with food.
You forced yourself to sit up, feeling a pang of guilt at their worried expressions. "Thanks, guys. You really didn't have to do that."
Remus sat on the edge of your bed, his gaze gentle. "We want to help, Y/N. You're not alone in this."
You picked at your food, unable to summon much of an appetite. The weight of your heartache felt suffocating, and it seemed impossible to imagine ever feeling whole again.
Sirius reached out and took your hand, his touch warm and comforting. "We're here for you, Y/N. Whatever you need."
Tears welled up in your eyes, threatening to spill over. "I miss him so much, Sirius. I can't stop thinking about him."
Remus squeezed your shoulder, his voice soft but determined. "It's okay to grieve, Y/N. But we don't want to see you suffer like this."
You nodded, feeling their love and concern wash over you like a lifeline in the storm. "I know. I just... I don't know how to move on."
Sirius leaned in, his voice filled with conviction. "We'll figure it out together. One step at a time."
They stayed with you, offering words of comfort and encouragement, their presence a beacon of hope in the darkness of your grief. They helped you out of bed, coaxing you to eat and drink, and gently guided you through the days ahead.
With Remus and Sirius by your side, you began to find the strength to face each new day. Their unwavering support and love became your anchor, helping you navigate the rough waters of loss and healing. And though the pain of losing James would always linger, you knew that with Remus and Sirius by your side, you would never have to face it alone.

still alive, killing time at the cemetery..
The news came like a thunderclap, shattering the fragile peace of your world. James and Lily were gone—taken from you by the dark and vengeful hand of Voldemort himself. The grief was overwhelming, suffocating, as if the weight of the loss would crush you where you stood.
You and Sirius raced to Godric's Hollow, your hearts pounding with dread as you approached the ruins of their home. The sight that greeted you was almost too much to bear. The once quaint cottage lay in ruins, smoke still rising from the wreckage.
You stumbled forward, tears blurring your vision as you searched desperately for any sign of them. And then you saw him—James, lying on the ground, his lifeless eyes staring up at the sky. Lily was upstairs, her body lying mere inches from where baby Harry was nestled in his cradle, who miraculously survived.
You fell to your knees beside James, your heart breaking into a million pieces. You wailed and sobbed, clutching his lifeless body to your chest, unable to comprehend the magnitude of your loss.
Sirius collapsed beside you, his grief mirroring your own. He reached out, pulling you into a tight embrace as you both mourned the loss of your friends, your family.
But amidst the pain and despair, a spark of determination ignited within you. You looked down at baby Harry, his eyes wide and innocent, and you made a silent vow. You would raise him, protect him, and ensure that he knew the love of his parents, even if they couldn't be there to give it themselves.
As Sirius prepared to leave for revenge on Pettigrew, you made your decision. You stood up, your eyes filled with resolve, and you looked him in the eye.
"I'll raise Harry," you said firmly, your voice steady despite the turmoil inside you. "I promised Lily and James that I would look after him, and I intend to keep that promise."
Sirius nodded, his expression one of fierce determination. "I'll do whatever it takes to bring Pettigrew to justice. And then we'll make sure Harry knows the truth about his parents."
You embraced Sirius one last time, drawing strength from each other as you faced the uncertain future ahead. Together, you would honor the memory of James and Lily, and ensure that their son grew up knowing the love and sacrifice that had defined their lives.
You made your way to lily, combing her beautiful locks out of her young, lovely face, breaking down in tears again as you enveloped her in your arms. "I won't let you down Lils" you vowed, rocking back and forth, clearing the specks of dust that had landed on her cheeks.
You went back to James, running your hand through his mop of curls one more time, a raspy sob breaking past your lips as you pressed a kiss to his forehead, tears dripping down onto his nose. "I love you and i always will" you sobbed, stroking his cheek, wishing his arms would envelop you instead of hanging limply at his sides.
You took a minute to compose yourself, picking baby Harry up and heading to the door, apparating to the apartment you shared with Sirius.
You would never let anyone take him from you.

you're the loss of my life...
The fire crackled softly in the cozy living room of Grimmauld Place, casting flickering shadows on the walls. You sat nestled in an armchair, a book in your lap, but your mind was far away, lost in memories of the past fifteen years.
Harry, now fifteen years old, had grown into a remarkable young man under your care. He was fiercely loyal, brave, and kind-hearted, qualities that reminded you so much of his parents. He often called you "mama," a term of endearment that warmed your heart every time you heard it.
You had raised Harry as your own, pouring all your love and devotion into him, determined to give him the happy childhood that had been stolen from him by Voldemort's cruelty. And in return, Harry loved you fiercely, seeing you not only as his guardian but as his closest confidante and a second mother.
But despite the love and joy Harry brought into your life, there were still moments of darkness and pain, moments when the weight of the past threatened to crush you under its unbearable burden. Tonight was one of those moments.
"I miss him, Sirius," you whispered, your voice barely above a whisper. "Every day, I feel his absence like a hole in my heart."
Sirius reached out and took your hand, his eyes filled with sympathy. "I know, Y/N. We all do. He was... he was everything to us."
Remus nodded, his expression somber. "James and Lily were the best of us. Losing them... it's a pain that never goes away."
Tears welled up in your eyes, and you struggled to compose yourself. "I still love James, Remus. I always will. He was the love of my life, the loss of my life."
Sirius's grip tightened on your hand, his own eyes shining with unshed tears. "We'll get through this together, Y/N. We'll keep Harry safe, and we'll make sure James and Lily's sacrifice wasn't in vain."
Just then, the door creaked open, and Harry stood there, his eyes wide with concern. He had heard your conversation from upstairs, and his heart ached at the pain in your voices.
"Mum? Mama?" he called softly, his voice trembling.
You turned to see him standing there, his eyes filled with tears. Without a word, he rushed forward and threw himself into your arms, clinging to you as if you were his lifeline.
You held him tight, feeling his warm tears soak into your shirt. "Oh, Harry," you whispered, your own tears flowing freely now. "We're okay, sweetheart. We're okay."
Sirius and Remus joined the embrace, forming a tight circle of love and grief. Together, you cried for the ones you had lost, but also for the strength and love that still bound you together.
In that moment, surrounded by the ones you loved most in the world, you felt a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. You knew that as long as you had each other, you could face whatever challenges lay ahead, and that James and Lily's legacy would live on in the love you shared with Harry and with each other.

About a week after the two professors had fallen asleep whilst talking, everything was kind of normal. Y/N was actively avoiding Remus and Severus has been particularly rude to the new professor. Harry had finally taken to questioning his aunt about her strange behavior and Snape’s aggressive nature toward Remus. He had waited until after dinner, following her into the greenhouse.
“Aunt Y/N, Professor Lupin said he knew my parents. Did you know him too?” Harry asked, trying to mask his intentions.
“You just want to know why I avoid him, don’t you?” She sighed, looking her nephew in the eye.
“I can’t hide anything from you, can I?”
“You certainly cannot, my love. I know you too so I know you won’t leave me alone until I tell you or you pester Sev enough to tell you. Come sit with me, this is gonna be a longer talk than I want it to be but you deserve to know everything about the situation,” She explained. The two Potters entered her office and sat on the very same couch Minerva had spotted Y/N and Severus the week earlier. “We can start off with how I first met Remus. We met on platform 9 ¾ right before the train came, James was off with some of his friends…”
**
The platform was bustling with witches and wizards alike, the anticipation waiting for the Hogwarts Express was palpable. James was off chatting with Sirius and Y/N was sitting on the ground with her nose stuck in her herbology book. Her mind was racing because she was nervous about what house she would be put in, she was wondering who her professors were, if they were nice and so on. James promised her that all of the professors were nice, Dumbledore, McGonagall and Slughorn were some he mentioned by name. Although James had tried reassuring her, it didn’t do much to help ease her nerves.
“You’re James’ sister, right?” A voice came from her right, startling her slightly, “Sorry to frighten you, he has a picture of the two of you in our dorm so I thought I’d say hi. My name is Remus.”
“Like Remus and Romulus? That’s pretty cool. I’m Y/N, it’s nice to meet you,” She said. The two had begun chatting, talking about where they lived, what their families were like, Remus asked her what subject she was most excited to learn about and of course the young witch had said Herbology.
Once the train had arrived, Remus and Y/N boarded together, talking all the while as they tried to find a compartment to sit in. The only empty one was in the back of the train so the two sat and talked the whole ride to Hogwarts, The conversation only pausing when the sweets trolley rolled by and when James and Sirius had popped in to say hello.
Their friendship only grew from there, Remus helping her study for DADA and History Of Magic and Y/N helping him study for Charms and Herbology. Once Remus had joined James, Sirius and Peter, the five wizards got up to lots of trouble. Although Y/N was a year younger than the other four, she was more than willing to help out with pranks. Her and Remus, however, were the only two that strayed away from bullying other students, especially Severus Snape.
**
“That was how Remus and I became friends, he was the fastest friend I had ever made. We talked for only like a minute and became friends right away. We got closer and closer as the years went on. I'll spare some details about our friendship because we got into some trouble or we would just hang out in the library reading or studying. Everything got rough once James and Lily were killed.”
**
Remus showed up to the destroyed house in Godric’s Hollow, Y/N outside of the fence with a crying Harry in her arms, Severus standing beside her, his cloak over her shoulders to keep her warm in the cold autumn air.
“Y/N, is it true? He killed them?” Remus asked her.
“J-Jamie and Lils are dead, h-he tried t-to kill Harry but he s-survived somehow,” She stuttered out behind her tears. Severus excused himself so the two friends could talk things out.
“Peter is dead, Sirius was the one who sold them out, he murdered Peter and a dozen muggles,” He explained, “Listen, dove, I need to go, I’ll send you an owl okay?” She just nodded and watched him apparate away.
She was left for a while to cry, until Severus showed up and escorted her elsewhere, somewhere she could be safe and warm with baby Harry. Somewhere she could escape the reality that faced her, she was alone with a child she didn’t know how to care for, a child that would be legend. A boy who lived, the only known survivor of the killing curse and the defeater of Lord Voldemort.
**
“I know you like professor Lupin and I understand that, he's a great guy. He just left me at a time where I really needed him. We got into an argument last week and I’ve been avoiding him since,” Y/N explained, “I don’t want any of this to change the way you look at Lupin, he’s an incredibly smart man and an extremely talented wizard.”
Harry decided to let things go until winter came around. He had once again been attacked by a dementor, luckily Dumbledore stopped his fall before he hit the ground of the Quidditch pitch. Harry went to Remus for help but he was too weak at the time, after the break he was promised a lesson about patronuses, a way to keep himself safe from dementors.
Harry had the wonderful idea to sneak around Hogsmeade with the invisibility cloak (even though he had permission to go), finding out from Minerva, after sneaking in behind her and the minister of magic, that Sirius Black was his godfather. Herminone and Ron helped Harry back to Hogwarts, where he sought out his aunt. This of course, was against the advice of Hermione who told him to just sleep it off and talk to her in the morning. He knew she was in the greenhouses, either tending to the plants or grading student papers. What he didn’t expect to find was her and the potions master laughing over tea. He stared at the pair, tears threatening to leave his eyes, the sense of betrayal weighed heavy on him.
“You knew,” He uttered. The two professors stopped laughing and turned to Harry, not expecting him to be in her office.
“What happened, my love? Why are you so upset?” Y/N asked, her voice laced with concern for her nephew.
“You knew,” He repeated.
“What are you talking about Harry? What did I know?” She was confused, she had never seen her nephew so distraught over something before, she wanted nothing but to help him with whatever he was dealing with.
“You knew that Sirius Black killed my parents! You knew that Sirius Black ratted them out to Voldemort! You knew Sirius Black! You know he’s my godfather! He was your friend!” Harry finally shouted at his aunt.
“There is no need to shout, Harry, come sit, let’s talk this out,” Y/N said calmly although deep down she too, was distraught. She had never wanted Harry to know about Sirius’ role in his life but somehow, he had found out.
“No, I want you to tell me right here! I don’t want to sit and talk!”
“That is no way to speak to your aunt, Harry,” Snape chimed in, upset with how the boy was screaming at his aunt, the woman who cared for him and loved him his whole life.
“You shut up, this has nothing to do with you!”
“Harry! Apologize to him right now!” Y/N scolded, the tension in the room was rising, she knew at any moment that Harry would snap and in turn so would Severus.
“NO! He has no right to be a part of this conversation! It’s between me and you!” Severus was about to go at the boy but once Y/N had laid her hand on his shoulder, he stopped short. The pair made eye contact, Severus knowing she wanted to handle this by herself so he excused himself to her office to get the potion ingredients he originally came to her for.
“I knew about Sirius being your godfather, yed. Of course I did, I’m your godmother, the two of us did everything for you until Sirius turned on us. He was your father’s best friend,” Y/N told her nephew.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Harry demanded the answer.
“I didn’t want you to know, you’ve dealt with enough in your life, I didn’t want to add another thing on top of it.”
“So you knew he sold out my parents to Voldemort?”
“Yes, I knew. Trust me Harry, I didn’t like it just as you don’t. I feel just as betrayed if not more because he was like a brother to us,” Y/N tried to explain, somehow keeping herself calm throughout the conversation even though she kept seeing the picture of her brother dead on the floor in her mind.
“You feel betrayed! You’ve lied to me my whole life! You never told me anything! Nothing about Professor Lupin, nothing about Sirius Black, nothing about Peter Pettigrew! Why?” Harry went back to shouting at his aunt, a glass next to her shattering to pieces.
“Because it hurts me Harry! It hurts to even think about it, let alone talk about it! Remus and Sirius were my brothers and they betrayed me! Peter at least died instead of betraying us, instead of leaving me! It pains me to talk about your father but I do it anyway, for you! Everything I do is for you Harry, don’t you realize that! You are the most important thing in my life! You expect me to just turn around and hurt you the way I got hurt once I learned about all of this!” She shouted back, the glass from some of her cabinets shattered as she shouted at the boy.
“If I’m the most important thing in your life, why lie? Why hide this from me!” Harry was now just looking for a fight, he was getting information out of his aunt by upsetting her so he continued to do it.
“Because I love you! Because I care about you! You are my boy! You are like the son I never got to have! You are exactly like your father! Your father that I miss every single day because he was my best friend! You are the only family I have Harry James Potter! You are the only family I will ever have!” She had begun crying, wiping her tears as they came to try and appear like she was not crying even though Harry knew she was.
“You’re not my mother! You will never be my mother!” Harry screamed at her, this caused the woman to burst into tears, Severus had come back into the room once he had heard her crying.
“That’s enough Harry, go back to your dormitory,” Severus said sternly.
“No!”
“Stop acting like a defiant child and do as I say. You’ve done enough, you wanted your answers, you got them. Now go!” The potion’s master was furious at the boy, he had never seen Harry act this way before, in all the years of knowing him, this had never happened. Harry had stormed out of the greenhouse leaving the two professors once again. The day had started off cheerful and happy and ended with Y/N in despair and spiraling due to not only her nephew but remembering what she had seen and the trials and tribulations she had gone through.

Day 11 - Prompt: Cauldron @jegulus-microfic
December Daily Series - 499 words
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10
“Sirius?”
“Hmm?”
Regulus tapped the window lightly to get his brother’s attention. “Is he alright?”
Sirius leaned up onto his knees from his bed and lifted his chin. A frown knitted his eyebrows together. As he studied the situation, Regulus watched James’s prone form.
Normally, when someone fell as dramatically as he had, it would be a cause for concern. However, the sheer number of times that James had lost his balance this weekend alone made him hesitate. The bloke was remarkably uncoordinated for an athlete.
“He’s fine,” Sirius decided, settling back against his pillows. “If he was hurt, Padfoot would be dancing around and barking like mad.”
Regulus hadn’t given the bear-shaped “dog” any consideration, but now that he mentioned it, the animal was sitting next to James rather calmly. In the short time he’d been around it, the dog had leapt on him a half dozen times and barked more than that. If it wasn’t so large, he wouldn’t mind giving it a pat, but it was too big to be so aggressively insistent.
“Is he always like this?”
Sirius nodded, then glanced up. “Wait, James or Padfoot?”
Regulus rolled his eyes and gestured at the window. “Your friend has spent more time on his back than upright over the last two days.”
When his brother cackled, Regulus threw a pillow at his face. “You knew what I meant, pervert.”
“Oof!” Sirius swatted the pillow away and huffed. “Considering you’re the reason he hit the ground at least twice, I’d say that’s more of a you problem.”
“Meaning?”
“Meaning that he’s flustered around you. Pads likely tripped him up just now, but it’s certainly not a daily occurrence.”
Regulus watched as James finally hauled himself to his feet. Granted, he had contributed to his fall on the ice, but James’s trip into the bushes during the snowball fight seemed a bit more intentional. He accepted that the dog was a factor this time, but it was becoming a pattern.
Don’t you dare turn this into a puzzle.
He couldn’t resist a puzzle. It was a weakness that he indulged in selfishly, particularly when it was related to a fit bloke. That was his favourite kind.
“What are you up to?” Sirius asked, circling his hand in Regulus’s direction. “What’s this face?”
“I’m not making a face.”
“Mm-hmm. You’ve forgotten how well I know you. This reminds me of the face you made when you were whipping up ‘poisonous concoctions’ in your toy cauldron. You were…what? Six?”
Regulus smirked at the memory. “Four, I think. I loved that toy.”
“Never understood why mother bought it for you. She was adamantly against ‘improper toys.’”
“Uncle Cygnus and Aunt Druella,” he corrected. “I think Narcissa told them it was a chemistry set.” He shrugged as he leaned against the window frame. “Mother wouldn’t risk offending them by chucking it.”
Sirius rolled over and aimed a pointed look at him. “Right. So, why this current deviousness?”
“It’s nothing. Relax.”
“Liar.”
Liar.

i swear i’ll return to my normally scheduled challengers content but i need to quickly rant on my big mauraders pet peeves yall…
- hyper-feminization/baby-girl-ification of sirius — very much girls straight women trying to make a gay couple fit hetero roles; weird obsession with top/bottom discourse (again, usually straight women)
- lily erasure (mostly by jegulus shippers) — i’m fine with straying from canon, but lily is quite literally the most important character in the entire series. the overarching message is about love being stronger than anything, even literal magic. you make her a “surrogate” or kill her off and you lose the actual moral of the series. if your queer ship can only exist with the erasure of a central female character, you’re a misogynist. sorry!
- barty crouch junior sympathizers — the normal reasoning behind sympathizing with children in the blood-purity movement, i.e. that they were basically raised in a cult (regulus black, draco malfoy, etc) doesn’t work here. like we’re supposed to think he’s redeemable because his dad….was busy at work? boo fucking hoo. the dude was raised relatively normally and turned out as a nazi.
- if you write a fic where characters are marginalized in ways which were not explicit in the canon (which i totally support), you should actually do the work of grappling with how this impacts them as characters and they’re stories. for example, if a character is Black, don’t just say they’re Black and then not think about how this would alter their experiences. muggles are raised in our society! yes, racism outside of blood purity logically exists! hogwarts is not some sort of haven! and if you want it to be, say that!
- thin and/or conventionally attractive peter — like what??? being the unattractive, mousy friend is core to his character; his appearance and size shouldn’t be equated to his evilness, but if you’re portraying “good peter” before his betrayal, that ALSO shouldn’t equate to him being suddenly attractive and thin; tldr: let pre-betrayal peter be chubby, not conventionally attractive, AND an included, legit friend and marauder (that’s literally why it’s a betrayal)
- forgetting that it’s the 70s — i almost never see anyone incorporate mentions of the events of the muggle world into marauders fics, beyond occasional song references (which are often not time-accurate) or a reference to bell-bottoms; this is why fics like atyd are so loved! it actually weaves in the period!!!
- making every single future member of the original order of the phoenix a friend of the marauders — imo this is just poor writing/storybuilding; just because someone is later mentioned as a member of the order doesn’t mean
- saying lucius, narcissa, molly, arthur, alice, or frank are the same age as the marauders — be sffr. again this is just lazy af to me, unless you say you’re doing it deliberately and for a reason. also, it is important that james and lily have harry so young and die so young — they know they are going to DIE. if everyone is made to have babies at 21 in a fic (ie by making everyone’s parents the same age) you lose a large part of the horror of james and lily’s situation.
VS.
things people often hate, which i don’t care about:
- making a ton of characters queer — feels a bit silly since they’re at a relatively small school, so statistically no, they’re not all gay and trans. but this doesn’t particularly matter to me unless you’re erasing women. just think about how this would impact the character and their experiences.
- making characters POC where were previously assumed to be white — 9/10 times love; only dislike when a fanfic author does this and doesn’t think about implications for character (see above)

James for 1,2, and 9?
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
My opinion on James literally changes week to week, I can't even say that I like or dislike him. Honestly any negative feelings I do have towards him comes more from being annoyed at fandom than the actual character himself.
I’ve really tried to get into him because it’s difficult being such big fans of Sirius and Lupin but then end up rolling my eyes everytime this dude come up (which is the worst thing a character can make me feel, apathetic verging on annoyed). But I think it come down to the fact that I’m just more into complex characters that just have a lot to analyze about them and James just isn’t that. He’s dead the entire series and has to remain somewhat sparse so Harry can project his ideal masculinity onto him (and then be able to take him off his pedestal when he gets developed a bit more). I get why people who are more into blank canvas characters would be into him because it’s fun to try to fill him out but that’s not really how I personally interact with fiction so he’s just not that appealing to me.
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Usually the things I find most interesting about James is his relationships, specifically his relationship with Sirius, Lupin and Snape. They feel like things I can grab onto for a character that feel very intangible to me. I especially like his relationship with Sirius because it feels so intense and very codependent.
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
Absolutely not, I feel like he would always have his friends over 24/7 and they seem like they'd be very rowdy and loud. Basically I would not be getting many moments of silence.

4, 9, 17, 41, 91? love you heaps ❤️❤️
@ashes-and-ashes you are such a dote - Thank you so much 🥺❤️!

I answered that here 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

I would completely adore a TV adaptation of my canon marauders fic We Can Be Heroes, I could see it so clearly because when I write I see the scene in my mind as though it’s on screen? Imagine being able to have a canon marauders series with:
No interference from JKR
Confirming Wolfstar and Dorlene are canon
Giving them all the happy ending they deserved
No redemption arc for Snape
Pure Heaven!!!
I’d also love a film version of my medical marauders fic because that was so fun to write and I love a good medical drama with some action movie scenes? Can you imagine? (I’m laughing because there’s no smut and I cackled when someone who writes it said NO WAY to this ask 🤣🤣!!)
17. what is your favorite line you’ve ever written?
I actually don’t know, but I did like this short exchange between Sirius and James:
Sirius clenched his jaw. He would not cry, Merlin, damn it.
“You’re not my brother, Potter,” he said. Dismissively, coldly.
He watched a flicker of hurt cross James’ face, replaced by something else.
“I know that,” James said. “But you’re mine.”

I’m Not that inventive when it comes to weirdness, but… possibly the fic where Minerva transfigures James into a turkey… the embarrassment and the cackling of his friends as Evans comes up to buy raffle tickets off him …?? It was the reference to turkeys strutting that had me:
“Well, did you know that when a male turkey struts, the snood engorges with blood and extends to hang down over its beak?” said Remus lightly, scratching the back of his neck.
“What?” said Sirius, whirling around and gawking at James. “Merlin, fuuuuuck!” … etc
91. how has your writing style changed over the years?
That’s a lovely question but hard to answer. I think it might be that when I’m writing angsty stuff I find myself using fewer words and it feels like (hopefully) there’s more emotion?
“You’ll find me,” he whispers, bringing his hand up to his lips and kissing it.
Remus smiles. And he is gone.
He is gone
He is gone
He is gone.
Sirius bows his head.
The other thing is I find myself writing angst and fluff side by side in the same chapter/fic, because real life is like that, and who can survive sadness without a sense of humour and still some joy in memory? That idea reminds me of the Japanese setsunai : the ability to carry sorrow and joy at once. Feeling it all together, allowing sorrow to co-mingle with fond remembrance? I think I used to separate these more in writing.

“I’ve thought more about what I might like to do this year,” says Harry, leaning against the stables’ doorway as he watches Draco change into his dark riding jacket.
“Hm?” Draco hums, pulling his ponytail from the collar of his jacket. It cascades down his back in buttery-white waves. Harry’s fingers itch to touch those beautiful strands. His nose craves to smell them.
“And what’s that?” asks Draco.
“I’m going to write dirty pamphlets.”
Draco snorts, dragging Calliope’s saddle off the hooks on the wall. “You are not.”
“I am! And people are going to eat them up, because they’re going to be written from personal experience.”
“Merlin help us all.”

Previous Part | (Series Masterlist)
“Don’t kill him. You’ll go to Azkaban for a real crime this time.”
That made Sirius pause. He returned the wand to Remus, keeping a tight grip on Peter. Not heeding Sirius’ advice, Pettigrew began sputtering thanks to Harry. The boy shook his head.
“We aren’t letting you go. You should take his place, go to Azkaban for what you did to my parents. Let the Ministry and the dementors decide what to do with you.”
Your dad chuckled, gravelly with all sweetness missing. “You are Lily Evans’ son alright… try transforming back into a rat before we hand you over, Wormtail, and I’ll kill you. Forget Harry’s kindness.”
The man swallowed hard and nodded. Lupin performed spells to tie up Peter and Snape before mending Ron’s leg to the best of his ability. Your father apologized to Ron, insisting that he was aiming for the rat. Ron tried to brush it off like it was nothing— more for your sake than anything really. You all made your way back up the tunnel. Lupin held on to Peter, Ron leaned on Harry for support. Hermione carried Crookshanks back and occasionally checked behind her to make sure the floating Professor Snape who was still knocked out was in fact behind you all. You and Sirius led the pack, your father wrapping an arm around your shoulder. Lupin called out to his friend who turned his head to look.
“When we turn him in this means you’re free.”
Sirius sighed. “Freedom, haven’t felt that idea be possible in a long time… what’s the first thing you want to do, Poppet?”
“Will you sign my permission slip for Hogsmeade? Uncle Remus keeps busting me and making me pay in candy.”
The gravelly laugh erupted from Sirius. “Absolutely! And then?”
“Teach you to be nice to Kreacher.”
“He’s still alive?”
“Yes and a very nice house-elf.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “I will very very reluctantly learn to be nice to our devil of a house-elf for Poppet’s sake.”
“Good, one more thing.”
“Don’t tell me you want me to make nice with Bellatrix. I’ll hex her the next time I run into my brat of a cousin. Almost bit her when escaping my cell just for good measure.”
“I want to go home.”
That small statement made Sirius pause just at the opening of the tunnel. He turned to look at you completely. He nodded his head minutely and the faintest, most broken looking smile graced his face.
“Yeah, (Y/N), we can go home.” He turned to Harry. “You can come stay too, boy. Remus is in charge of (Y/N) if anything happens to me. I’m in charge of you for James and Lily— if your aunt and uncle let you. They have real guardianship.”
“They might say no just to spite me but I’ll ask!” Harry said, enthusiastically.
Even if the Durselys said no, he could always visit for a vacation. Anything was better than spending all his time with his aunt and uncle. You all made your way out, avoiding stepping too harshly and waking up the Whomping Willow tree. The march up to the castle began when everyone was safely out. Your father left your side to run to his friend.
“Remus, Remus, did you remember?”
The man shook his head. In the haste of finding Sirius when he realized that the four of you were still at Buckbeak’s execution, the man forgot to take the wolfsbane potion. Remus shook his head and his whole body began to shake violently. His eyes went to black.
“Children, run!” Sirius yelled at all of you. “Run— Now!”
You, Harry, Ron, and Hermione headed back towards the castle. Lupin, now a fully transformed werewolf, casted Sirius aside and began to follow the easy targets that you were. Sirius transformed into his Animagus form. Pettigrew used the chaos to his advantage, transforming into a rat and fleeing.
Ron led the way as he darted into the woods. The forest provided some form of shelter but had split the four of you up. You and Ron had been separated from Harry and Hermione. The two of you darted behind a tree, holding your breath, as you watched the werewolf slink past you.
A cawing noise garnered his attention. Ron grabbed your arm and ushered you in the opposite direction. The two of you continued your hushed run until you saw the stones of the castle. Ducking behind the stone ledge, you two waited impatiently for Hermione and Harry. You got more worried by the minute when you didn’t see them or Sirius or Snape. Ron hissed and grabbed at his leg.
“Ron!” you gasped.
The stitches that Lupin had given had busted open again from the running. With the adrenaline gone, Ron realized how much pain he was in— he began to think that his leg might be broken. You stood back up briefly to check on the outside, breathing in relief when you saw Snape appearing with three stretchers floating behind him, one with chains wrapped tightly around it. You ran to him.
“Professor, Ron is hurt!”
Without missing a beat, a stretcher was conjured up for Ron and you followed Snape as he led everyone to the infirmary. Madame Pomfrey jumped at the sight, alerting Dumbledore to be down at the infirmary right away. You stayed in the infirmary all night. They had taken your dad, much to your protest.
Harry groaned when he woke up. He wiggled his toes only for them to hit something that wasn’t the edge of the hospital bed. His eyes opened to see you sitting cross-legged with your eyes closed at the edge of his bed. You were resting your chin on your hand and he was positive he could see you drooling. Laughing, Harry sat up and shook you from your nap.
“Oh, good, you’re up. Madame Pomfrey!”
The nurse came out immediately to see the entire Golden Quartet now awake. She checked on Ron and Hermione first before moving to Harry. You looked at the newspaper tucked under her arm to see your father’s mugshot plastered all over it once again. You grabbed the paper and read the front page.
“Where is he?” you asked frantically.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Black. They’ve caught him. He’s getting the Kiss now, the dementors are preparing upstairs. You are all safe now.”
“WHAT?!”
You, Harry, and Hermione ran before Madame Pomfrey could catch any one of you. You didn’t get very far, running into Dumbledore right outside. He held a hand up to silence the unintelligible protests coming from the three of you. Harry was given the floor to speak, Hermione filling in all the little details.
“Professor Snape has already reported to the Minister. He even reports that Black confunded you all.”
“He was knocked out! He doesn’t know,” you tried to reason.
Dumbledore looked at you. “Professor Snap—”
“Is ly—”
“Let me finish. Professor Snape is sure in what he saw. I cannot convince these men of otherwise.”
“Do you believe us?”
Dumbledore nodded. “What we need is more time. More time and they could see the truth. I’ll see what I can do. More time.”
You all looked as Dumbledore walked off— he seemed to be in no rush to you. You gritted your teeth in irritation.
“More time? We don’t have more time! Saying it three times doesn’t suddenly give us more.”
Hermione made a noise that you had never heard her make before. “Of course, how could I be so daft?”
She pulled out a golden necklace with an hourglass in it. Speaking faster than she ever had in her life, Hermione explained how she had been using the time-turner that McGonagall gave her to attend all of her classes. The three of you ran back into the infirmary to avoid anyone— that was one of the rules that Hermione explained, you can’t be seen using it. Madame Pomfrey had gone back to her office. Hermione looked over at Ron. His leg was still injured even with Madame Pomfrey’s healing.
“I’ll stay with him,” you offered.
“Are you sure?”
“How helpful am I with no magic? Just make sure Snape is woken up to see Pettigrew… and try to get everyone safely away from Professor Lupin.”
The other two nodded and you sat with Ron. He began to ask questions and you simply distracted him until Harry and Hermione disappeared. Ron was adamantly shaking his head. He went wide-eyed and pointed right behind you.
“How did you two— you were just there.”
The three of you laughed while you poked Ron’s good leg. “Don’t be ridiculous, Ron, how can they be in two places at once?”
Ron agreed but was left very confused. Dumbledore called you outside where he was standing with Snape and your father was still knocked out on the stretcher.
“Severus has told me of what has transpired last night,” Dumbledore said. “With Pettigrew no longer here, Sirius is not innocent immediately. I will write to Fudge but he can’t be seen here for someone else to find, Ms. Black. He will have to be taken to a holding jail on campus.”
With the final day of school officially here, every student that hadn’t gotten permission to leave early was spending their freedom at Hogsmeade before catching the Hogwarts Express that afternoon. Ron was finally let out of the hospital but no one felt like going to Hogsmeade. You were all sitting outside on the steps of Hagrid’s hut. Hagrid was excited, probably more excited than everyone.
Apparently, Buckbeak had escaped before his execution and the Minister agreed with Dumbledore that it was too much of a hassle to chase down a hippogriff for such a small offense. Lupin came strolling over, for the first time in a nice suit rather than his frayed clothing.
“Are you ready?” he asked.
You stood up and brushed out your dress. You and Lupin were going to testify on your father’s behalf— Snape was already at the Ministry with Dumbledore. There wasn’t a confirmation of trial but they agreed to let Dumbledore bring Sirius Black to the Ministry of Magic. You were told to be in the best clothes you owned. Harry, Ron, and Hermione wished you luck and gave you the final goodbye wave of the school year.
The Ministry of Magic was an intimidating place. It only seemed to get larger as you made your way to the room where your father was. You were sure the whole Ministry was there when you entered the room. The Wizard Council and every single Magical Enforcement Squad member. At the head were Cornelius Fudge and Barty Crouch Sr— who had long been demoted to the Department of International Magical Cooperation but had to be here to see Sirius Black. Cornelius looked down at your father who was dressed in decent clothes thanks to Dumbledore.
“Mr. Black, you acknowledge that you have come to the Ministry of Magic willingly,” Fudge said.
“Yes.”
“Willingly coming must be considered, ladies and gentlemen. Mr. Black, you may choose. Azkaban or the Dementor’s Kiss.”
“What?” you yelled. “That’s not fair.”
Lupin held your struggling form back— you cursed the man for his surprising strength because he certainly didn’t look it. The wizards and witches on the council watched uncomfortably as you thrashed about in the man’s arms. Dumbledore and even Snape began to calmly advocate for Sirius, telling Fudge that only an innocent man would walk themselves into the Ministry with such serious charges against him. Wands were drawn suddenly when they noticed that Sirius had gotten up— no one saw that Dumbledore had unlocked him— and strolled over to you. Lupin only let go because Sirius was in front of him. Sirius hugged you tightly, stroking your hair gently.
“It’s okay, (Y/N). I said this could happen, told you not to come looking for your old man, Poppet. It’s alright.”
“No!” you yelled and broke out of his grip and faced the entire council. You pointed at Barty Crouch.
“It’s not fair because you never gave him a trial! You said it wasn’t worth your time. My father didn’t kill anyone, he didn’t do it. I’ll do anything, I’ll take Veritaserum.”
“Ms. Black,” Barty Crouch started— highly offended that you dared to call him out. “Powerful wizards can go against the effects. A potion so unreliable has never been used in a trial.”
“I’ll take it, not him.”
“If he has confunded you? Of course, you would believe you were telling your truth. Your father seems to have gotten to you somehow.”
“No! If not that then something else. I-I’ll-I’ll accept the Cruciatus Curse to prove it.”
“(Y/N)!” Sirius and Remus yelled.
“NO! It’s not fair! You shouldn’t die. Dad should have a fair trial, PLEASE!”
Your voice rose unnaturally high and the tears streamed down your face, your nose starting to run. Snape used the moment to his advantage. He turned to the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement— Amelia Bones.
“Surely, you know that isn’t how the law works, Councilwoman Bones. You can’t let the Minister bypass the law. Word will get around. And you’ve stressed the poor girl out, she offered to be tortured.”
Amelia cleared her throat, uncomfortable at the thought of an Unforgivable Curse being used on someone as young as fourteen and not to mention innocent. You bit down on your hand to stop your sobbing noises from getting too loud. The room went silent as they waited for the Department Head to speak.
“Mr. Black wasn’t given a trial once, we will not break the law again. Someone please clean up the girl and we will proceed.”
The trial went on longer than you imagined. Memories were pulled from you, Sirius, Lupin, Dumbledore, and Snape— Lupin hanging his head in shame as his werewolf affliction became known to everyone. You were given Veritaserum. Barty Crouch protested to both stating that they were known to be unreliable because the brain alters memories sometimes. Told to state your proof of Sirius’ innocence and what you witnessed.
And when all five of you did the process once, you did it again in a different order. And then once more with the others out of the room so the council could ask questions. You didn’t realize how much you were shaking until you were the last person left and every adult that you trusted was no longer in the room. Amelia Bones calling your name made you turn your head from the door that Dumbledore just closed to all the Ministry workers in front of you.
“Ms. Black, Remus Lupin in his memory shows you two having a conversation about Mr. Black. You maintained the entire time that Mr. Black was innocent even when his best friend potentially suspected him. When was this?”
“Fall, after Halloween.”
“Can you give us a more specific time?”
“No,” your voice shook. “After Halloween, before Christmas.”
“Early December or November?”
“I’m not sure, I don’t k—”
“Relax, sweetheart,” Amelia tried to comfort. “You are not in trouble. We are merely trying to figure out all the information.”
You nodded and relaxed the fist that had been gripping the bottom of your dress till you were sure that your knuckles would split open from the pressure. Amelia smiled and took a deep breath with you. She requested that all members of the Ministry— including Minister Fudge— direct their questions to her and she would be the only one to communicate with you.
“Alright, let’s try again. Do you remember when you talked to Remus Lupin about Mr. Black’s innocence?”
“After Halloween, before Christmas… November! Professor Snape took points from Gryffindor and assigned a very long essay on werewolves so I went to Professor Lupin when I… figured out that he was one.”
“You’re sure it is November?”
“Yes. Professor Snape was only substituting because Uncle Remus was gone and the full moon lasted longer than normal. Another one didn’t occur until December. I know because I had to keep track to become an Animagus correctly.”
“Uncle Remus, yes, let’s talk about that. You found out Remus was your godfather. Did you always know?”
“No, I didn’t.”
“But he did?”
“Yes.”
“And you found out before or after your first contact with Mr. Black.”
“After.”
“In any of your letters did Mr. Black try to convince you he was innocent?”
“He didn’t have to.”
“But did he?”
“Not— not directly. He mentioned he should’ve stayed strong to try and clear his name but never anything else.”
Amelia nodded before scribbling something with a quill. You began to mess with your dress again, fearing that you said the wrong thing. The others were called back into the room. You wouldn’t look at your dad— not if you were the reason for his conviction. You wouldn’t look up when Amelia began the raising of the hands to see if they thought Sirius was guilty or innocent. You only looked when you heard a sigh followed by a thud. Your father was crying.
“The Ministry extends their sincerest apology for your false conviction. Congratulations, from this day on you are now a free man, Mr. Black,” Amelia Bones said. “We’ll leave you to collect yourself while your papers are filed— you do in fact have to register being an Animagus, Mr. Black.”
The members of the Ministry exited the room until it was just you, Remus, and Sirius left— Dumbledore and Snape had exited with the rest of the members. Sirius stood up and you finally left the chair to give him a hug. The two of you rocked back and forth before letting go. Sirius wiped at his tears with his sleeve.
“Let’s go home. That sound good, Poppet?”
You nodded so hard you were sure that your head might roll off of your neck.
“Are you coming, Moony?”
“I’ll visit soon. I suspect with the trial details coming out, I should be on the lookout for a new job.”
“You’re not going to keep teaching? You’re literally the best Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Uncle Remus.”
He chuckled. “I am the only one you’ve ever had. It isn’t safe to be around children, parents will say that. After my incident, I agree. Maybe in the future but I should leave for a year or two. I’ll visit you two when you’ve settled in.”
Remus and Sirius hugged before you all went your separate ways. Naturally, Sirius took his new found freedom to apparate you two back to Grimmauld Place. He wanted nothing to do with his old house— he wasn’t even sure if it was still there. It was too close to James and Lily, was the spot where Alicia died, was the place he made the worst decision of entrusting Wormtail. Grimmauld Place, no matter how hard Kreacher tried, was a dusty and rundown place. The minute you landed inside, the large portrait of Walburga Black began to yell. You and Sirius both covered your ears until he had it.
“Mother, shut up!”
Kreacher came running down the hall. He was very pleased to see you and not so excited to see Sirius. Both Kreacher and Sirius were told to be cordial to each other. Sirius pointed to the little elf.
“Nice sweater,” he said awkwardly as if trying to be sincere.
“Thank you, Mistress (Y/N) gave it to me.”
“Doesn’t that mean you’re free? You don’t want to leave?”
“Kreacher wants to stay.”
“Of course he does,” Sirius muttered under his breath. “Well, can you figure out a way to shut mother up… please.”
You complimented your father on his rough attempt at being nice. With Kreacher’s help, the place was cleaned up in time for dinner. The dinner table— mainly its inhabitants— seemed out of place. A man with an emaciated frame, a girl no longer in trial clothes but a large hoodie, and a house-elf in a sweater.

I would love to hear your Regulus tattoo dissertation
ok ok so this is going to be very long apologies in advance but i’ll do it in a list order to simplify things 💫 also, there’s some that will be listed that i haven’t explicitly drawn yet but it’s imperative that we all know they’re there
(also important to note: james is right handed, reg is left handed, so he thinks the tattoos on his left arm represent himself while the ones on his right represent james/the two of them)
1. the star on his right ring finger- first tattoo he got, he went with sirius and sirius tried to convince him to do something elaborate and crazy but he got spooked and only ended up agreeing to a little star (sort of matching with sirius, who has stars up and down some of his fingers, moon phases on the others, but sirius is a whole other post)
2. here i will mention that i have accepted all the tattoos regulus has in wywm by @thebattlehamster into my own personal canon, i can’t list them off the top of my head because i’m a fake fan, but every regulus i draw will probably have those tattoos as well
3. the big squiggly guy- at a not so great time in his life, he got blackout drunk and went to a tattoo shop with a page of scribbles on it and told them to do that, this was the outcome and he ultimately loves it a lot
4. flower skill thing- flower tat where the flowers have skulls in their centers because he felt some kinship to the idea of something dark and deadly wrapped up in something beautiful
5. j behind his right ear- for obvious reasons, he got it there because he likes it when james kisses behind his ear :,)
6. hand reaching for sun- pretty self explanatory, james is the sun and hes the one reaching for it
7. klimt kiss- one of his favorite paintings, sirius teased him for getting something so lovey dovey and regulus promptly smacked him upside the head like only siblings can
8. magritte lovers- regulus is really into art ok, he’s also stupidly in love
9. koi fish- he and sirius both have a koi fish design, sirius’s is bigger and more bold/detailed, regulus’s is more delicate/minimalistic and part of a larger design, they also are a yin & yang symbolic design because that’s what they are to each other (regulus thinks he’s yin and sirius is yang, sirius thinks the opposite)
10. leo constellation- series of unconnected stars scattered on the left side of his collarbone, technically in the shape of leo but without the lines connecting them (regulus star is the biggest)
11. canis major constellation- ditto to the above description, but on the right side of his collarbone (sirius star is the biggest)
12. anatomically correct heart- on his heart, because he’s Like That
13. black cat- on the side of his ribcage bc i believe his animagus form would be a black cat
14. fuck- small and on his ass, because he and james and sirius and remus all got a tattoo that says fuck together and his is on his ass because i knew someone who did that when he came out as gay and i thought it was funny lmao
that’s all for now but this is however an ongoing list and i reserve the right to add onto it as inspiration strikes 😌
#organ donations#regulus black#yes i have thought out all the other marauders as well if anyone would like to indulge me :))))#i also can’t figure out how to hide this under the keep reading tab so it doesn’t overtake ur dash so i’m sorry in advance#tattoo talk

miss imp! do u have any prongsfoot content/headcanons for us?
(i just read ur entire series on ao3 again and i’m absolutely starved for more. u write them so well 🥺)
So Dr. Grey laughs at me a lot for this, but I have the memory of swiss cheese. I remember nothing. Or I remember random shit, but never important stuff. I especially remember nothing about my stories once I post them. Once they're on AO3, they exit my brain completely. I definitely had a moment there where I was like "I wrote a Prongsfoot series????" and had to go to AO3 to refresh my memory, lol.
Anyway. I went through my drafts folder, and it turns out I have no Prongsfoot in progress! I can definitely come up with some headcanons for you, though.
1) Give James Potter a baby and he melts into a puddle of goo. Give Sirius Black a baby? James Potter loses his goddamn mind at the sight. It makes him want seven babies and to jump his husband’s bones immediately.
2) James and Sirius were each other’s first kiss. They wanted to practice kissing...and then decided they didn’t want to kiss anyone else ever.
3) They were both complete idiots about it though, so Remus was the one who had to eventually get them together (ik Remus isn’t ur favorite but shhh he’s good in this, he has always been Prongsfoot’s biggest supporter.)
4) They trade off being stay at home dads when Harry comes along! James does it for a few years, then Sirius, etc.
5) James cried so hard at their wedding he could barely get through his vows.
6) James takes a teaching position at Hogwarts and is like “right I’m going to be going home every evening and weekend and holiday to be with my family” and Dumbledick is like “no Hogwarts professors aren’t allowed to do that” and James is like “what are you going to do, fire me” and Dumbledick gives in.
7) Sirius kissing James’s neck. That is all.
8) Sirius cheering so hard at James’s Quidditch matches that he loses his voice.
9) James getting sick and waking up to find Padfoot curled around him in bed.
10) James and Sirius spoiling the hell out of Harry, and then their grandkids, and loving each other until the end, thank you and goodnight.

james potter x reader (previously)
sirius black x reader (in progress)
warnings: gif not mine, swearing, understandably bitchy y/n, JAMES REDEMPTION SKBDJDJSMAALA (sorry james haters <3 lil baby redeemed himself) one suggestive comment, i think that’s it.
summary: y/n had the worst day. and for once, james listened. james was there.
note: next chapter will properly focus on sirius x reader i promise !!!
two months after the ‘incident’ as y/n has started calling it, she felt a lot better. sure, as every person does, she still held a grudge. but she didn’t feel anything for him anymore, which confused her. she still felt jealous, she couldn’t help it, but she didn’t see herself with him anymore. she was just beginning to go back to her normal routine, sitting with the marauders, which now included lily, because she knew it wasn’t fair to make sirius sit away from them. and although he really didn’t mind, he would do literally anything for her, and he shared a dorm with them, he did appreciate that she was thinking about him.
the first day she sat with him, she felt like she was gonna be sick. like someone was continuously punching her in the stomach with zero remorse. but then it got easier, and soon her anger faded into resentment, which was to be expected. she was still hurt, but there was no point in mourning someone who isn’t dead, in greiving a love that couldn’t have died, because it never even lived.
-
“moony i’m telling you, out of all the teachers dumbledore is the most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse” james said, waving his hands around animatedly. “no… no! minnie would be the most likely to survive, gals got some moves.” y/n and sirius were listening into the conversation, exchanging looks and giggled every time one made a stupid yet understandable point. “i got to agree with moony, mate. she’s badass” sirius said, deciding the conversation was worth joining. as they continued, y/n spoke up. “your all wrong. poppy would survive a zombie apocalypse much better than anyone else. point a) she could heal herself, and others. when you heal someone in a zombie apocalypse that person will owe you their life, therefore she’s like some weird merlin of medicine, slowly she grows followers and then an army, and then she takes over the zombies too. point b) dumbledore would bust a hip. and point c) i love minnie, but she’d be too much of a team player to survive a zombie apocalypse.”
they were all stunned, she hadn’t really spoken since she started sitting with them again. sirius was the first to break the temporary silence, knowing she wouldn’t want it to be properly pointed out. “y’know… i hate that you’re right” she smiled the. shrugged saying “i’m just a genius i guess.”
they were all happy she was coming back out of her shell. it was something they all missed, and all felt bad about. especially james. but since she started sitting with them again, he couldn’t find it in himself to wallow in guilt. of course, he still felt terrible, but everyone was happy right?
-
a few days later, y/n was not having a good day. she failed her transfiguration test, because james used to help her, and she had a run in with snape, who ended up embarrassing her in front of everyone near the black lake. part of her wanted to go to the park, but the other part of her knew she had to study and she wouldn’t get any work done there. and another part of her wanted to completely forget that place, she didn’t want lily or james to be there when she was. so in true y/n fashion, she was stressing herself out more than she needed to, and it was taking a toll on her.
when she sat down for dinner, she was running on her last bit of patience, which was wearing increasingly thinner as the day perused. “m’love, did you wanna work on the transfig homework later?” james asked lily, which stung for two reasons. of course, y/n failed her transfiguration test, so it was just another reminder for her. but also, james never called her ‘my love’, or ‘love’ for that matter. and in her current state, that was enough to snap her lasting patience like a fucking twig. “um, yeah, sure.” lily responded, then very indiscreetly adding on “or we could do something a little more… enjoyable” y/n rolled her eyes, not needing another reminder of what goes on with lily and james. she stood up and stormed off, trying not to make too much of a scene, but not going out of her way to hide the fact she was annoyed. sirius was about to go after her, but james stopped him “pads, lemme talk to her.” he nodded warily, knowing that if he said the right thing james would help more. “just… get me if you need me” james nodded, already hot on y/n’s trail.
“y/n!” he spoke loudly, but calmly. “go away james, i don’t wanna talk.” he shook his head, catching up to her before saying “yeah, we’ll whether you want to, we need to. properly this time.” she stopped, huffed a bit, and looked at him. “i know i’ve said sorry a hundred times, and i know that means nothing to you, so instead i’m going to listen to you, and you’re going to tell me what’s bothering you. not just what happened between us, because you’ve clearly had a shit day. so rant. scream. hit me, if you really want. just- let it out.” and so she did. with little hesitation, she let out an aggravated shout, before spilling everything out to james, and even if people were listening because she was practically shouting all of her problems out to him in the middle of the corridor, it felt good.
“i’m bloody pissed. i fucking- i hate this. i hate everyone walking on egg shells around me, like i’m going to break if someone looks at me the wrong way. it happened, ok! i was mad? yes! and i still mad? honestly? i want to be. i want to fucking hate you! i want to hate her! but i can’t. i just can’t. i’m not going to take bloody bereavement for a flame that wasn’t even lit!” she took a deep breath before continuing. “and i don’t even know why i’m jealous, because i don’t love you anymore. i’m over it, admittedly quicker than i thought i’d be, but i just look at you, and i see the perfect person. for lily. not for me. and i can’t be mad at that.”
she scoffed at herself before looking up at james. “and then i had a transfiguration test last week, and normally you’d help me study, but i couldn’t ask you. cause you’d be helping lily. so then instead of studying i was throwing myself a pity party for something that shouldn’t even bother me! but it does! so then today, i obviously found out i failed. and then snivellus thought it’d be real funny to tell everyone what happened. i don’t even know how he knows! it’s not like i told anyone, and i doubt you did. because as mad as i was, as sad as i was, as fucking furious as i was, i wasn’t going to tell people. because i don’t even care anymore! but then i do! and i don’t know why! so then everyone started laughing, and some people gave me these sorrowful looks, and i was just crying like a bloody idiot. and- and then you called lily m’love. and you never called me that. you never even properly told me you loved me, just in passing when i’d say it. and… here we are. and i hate that you showed her the park. it meant something to me, it was like my safe space. and now i can’t go there without worrying you two will be there.” at this point she was sobbing and hyperventilating. although james wasn’t sirius, and he knew sirius was the best to calm her down, he did the one thing he thought would help. he pulled her into a hug and let her break down. eventually they were leant up against the wall, having been dragged to the ground by y/n, and he kept a tight hold on her, and this time he wasn’t planning on letting go. because his friend needed him, and he needed this too. he needed closure as well.
“and selfishly, i want her to do a you, to you. and i fucking hate that i’m calling it that” she chuckled, a sob hiding behind it that she concealed relatively well, but james still noticed. “but i want her to have you wrapped around her finger, and the. when you’re sure that you’re in love, she drifts. and then she falls in love with snivellus.” he nodded “honestly, part of me wants that too. because i feel like shit, and there is nothing i can do to make either of us feel better.” she shook her head, sitting up and looking at him. “but you did. you listened to me” she chuckled properly “and, honestly… i feel so much better right now.” he smiled “i’m glad” he sighed before speaking once more “i’m sorry for showing her the park, i knew you hadn’t gone in ages and i figured you were done with it. i didn’t realise how special it was to you. we won’t go there anymore, i’ll make sure of it.” she smiled at him “thank you”
