The new Miraculous film is actually alright
I didn't have high standards for this film originally. I put the release date on my calendar, but forgot about it as I didn't care all that much. However, today I was too tired to do much so I decided to give it a watch.
First thing is the animation. It's better than the show's, but there was a missed opportunity to redesign the characters to look less like they were just concept art for a final character. Chloe's hair looks like it was dunked in olive oil and was never washed out. Another thing I noticed is that Marinette always seems to be wearing some sort of earrings, which confused me as her disguised miraculous looks exactly the same as the earrings she wears at the start of the film and when she takes them off halfway. I hope they did what Jimmy Neutron did and reuse the film assets for the next season of the show. The camouflaged state of the butterfly miraculous looks so tacky! The creepy basement has been redesigned to replace the lift with stairs and the capsule with generic flowers. The school's been redesigned to look less modern and for some reason, both Marinette and Adrien now have analogue watches. Also Adrien has a phone with 1 camera and uses wired earphones. I imagine it's trying to do what the show did, by keeping all the technology from 2015 as that's when season 1 came out (the only contradicting point being the English news reporter from the season 5 finale said "God save the King", which implies this takes place in 2023 or later). It would be weird if Adrien didn't have the latest tech considering he's supposed to be rich and all. However, Alya's phone looks more like a modern phone due to the fact there's no buttons on the screen side and no bevels. Is she a time traveller?
The voice acting's fine. Something I didn't realise at first, is that this film is a musical. The songs are so damn cheesy and whenever they would play, I would open up discord and look through my unread messages while tuning out the generic songs about not being worthy, love, being a villain, etc. Marinette's singing voice is different than her regular voice and it's really noticeable. Nooroo's voice changed and I really don't like it. I like the scared and high-pitched voice that they had in the show as it gave the impression that Nooroo was terrified of being used for evil (possibly because a similar thing happened to them before), but had no choice and just had to obey. Fortunately Nooroo's a minor character in the film so I don't have to hear that out of place mystical mature voice much.
The music is just generic Disney style cinematic piano stuff. Careless Whisper (or as I call it: the sexy saxophone song) plays twice in the film. Why. Why would you unironically put a meme song in a film?
Now the writing. Oh the writing.
Spoilers here (I go over the ending and important plot points):
First off: this takes place in this alternate world where Marinette is unpopular and weird and Adrien has been at this school for a while now. I like this take as it's similar to season 1, but does a better job at Marinette's character arc. How they meet in this universe is by the library. Also Marinette's not a creepy stalker in this universe, and can actually talk to Adrien enough to ask him to go to the prom thing. Again I like this take as instead of her following him around for 4 seasons before he eventually confesses his feelings, she gets to know him better and they become friends via the help of Alya and Nino. Also when Alya saves Marinette from being publicly humiliated by Chloe, that was a better transition into them becoming friends then how it was originally with them meeting by just sitting together in the same class.
It was annoying how we never got to see Adrien's reaction to finding the miraculous. He finds this cat, didn't question how it got through his window when his room's on the 1st floor, cat turns to ring, then it just cuts and the next time we see him he's cat noir. Meanwhile Marinette freaks out over realising she's the chosen one. She never calls herself Ladybug in her introduction, but people start calling her that as they're all really unoriginal when it comes to name. Cat noir fights the enemy like he (somewhat) knows what he's doing, but Ladybug has absolutely no idea and is acting very clumsy. Something that annoyed me about the original origin story, was that Master Fu just met them 2 and decided that because Marinette gave him a macaron, then she would be a good Ladybug. In this version, Marinette saves his life by pushing him out of traffic, and the kwamis decide who their holders are by destiny or something. There's a couple missing features from the show:
Her magic ladybirds don't activate by her throwing the lucky charm. She figures out how to activate them in the end of the film by moving her arms around.
They don't de-transform after 5 minutes after using their power.
There isn't a manual in the stick and yo-yo (that would be a bit overpowered though).
They don't seem to break the akumatised object, the akuma seems to fly out of it after.
The suits can be damaged by attacks but they can't in the show. Towards the end, Cat noir and Hawk moth have a battle and he rips half of Cat noir's mask off. They also don't seemed to be affected by the magic plot device introduced in United Heroes that makes humans not question why the superheroes look so similar to Marinette and Adrien; Hawk moth realises that Cat noir is Adrien and oh my god that scene was written like it was a fan-fiction I would upload here. Personally I would make the backstory scene a lot darker (although something to note is that in the show, Emilie's death was a lot more recent than in the film) and have Cat noir actually manage to cataclysm Hawk moth (like in season 5 episode 3) instead of the Eiffel Tower (even though that was really cool too) just because I'm so curious how that conversation would go if he knew he essentially killed his own father. I was laughing in that entire scene so loudly that my brother messaged me on discord from the room next door asking if I was having a stroke. I was laughing so hard that I could barely hear what they were saying, and I was more focused on why Gabriel's eyebrows are shaded so tackily.
There's no akuma alert on their phone, they detect danger by their miraculous glowing. Better concept imo.
Ladybug doesn't use her lucky charm in the entire film. Cat noir uses his cataclysm so why doesn't Ladybug use her power? This doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, Marinette finds out that Adrien likes someone else when she asks him to go to the prom (that isn't described as a prom, but essentially that's what it is) and he rejects her saying that he likes someone else. Well, Hawk moth figured out much sooner in the film that he can akumatise himself and become really OP with a crap ton of butterflies. That version of him reminds me of Dr Robotnik when he gets the Master Emerald in the second Sonic film as he controls his power in a similar way. He drags the earrings out of Ladybug's ears and doesn't put them on? Instead the miraculous of the ladybird goes directly into the butterfly miraculous and it fuses that way. No different form though. So anyway, Marinette is on an island because from what I remember the place was flooded, but her island was separated from the one with Hawk moth and Cat noir. She finds out that Cat noir is Adrien, but the others are too busy having a mental breakdown that they don't notice her 4 metres away. At the end she tells Adrien that she's Ladybug in the cheesiest way. This was at the prom, Adrien's sad that he's never going to see Ladybug again because Hawk moth's been defeated and he knows that Ladybug isn't interested in becoming a couple; so he's next to a tree outside the venue. Marinette finds him and then this really cheesy scene plays that I can't really explain but it would have been better if she just asked why he was sad and then Adrien would be vague, but mention something about never being able to see his crush ever again. Marinette would mention that it's because he likes Ladybug, and because he's Cat noir, the only time they meet is when they're saving the day from akumatisations. He would act startled but that's when Marinette would mention that she's Ladybug, and that he doesn't need to worry. Marinette in the original scene is too vague.
Plagg deserved more screen time: he only appeared in 3 scenes, 2 of which involved him eating cheese. It's such a shame as Plagg's my favourite character from the show. The charm from his original character's been watered down and because he barely features, he never gets to make up for it.
Yeah essentially that's my thoughts. I prefer this universe over the universe of the show as this one makes more sense writing wise. It's not perfect, but it's not too bad. I quite enjoyed it but I feel like it could do with a bit of polishing to make it really shine. I'm not sure what direction the show's going with Lila being the new villain, but this film was definitely a better version of the Hawk moth arc due to it's smaller scale.
You can watch it on Netflix (I think) or some random piracy website that I used called miraculous.to. Use chrome though as the video buffers like mad on firefox.
I spent more than an hour typing this out.

EC ROTEK Vol 0 Ch 4: Family Altercation
【Five Hours Later】
(Aoki arrived in the dining room on his own and sees Kiyomi arguing with her sisters.)
(He breaks up the fight remaining calm.)
"Kiyomi, and her sisters..."
"We shouldn't fight."
"You are sisters."
"Can't you see that your father made his choice..."
"To keep the Miyamoto Family alive?"
(Kiyomi smiled at Aoki agreeing with him...)
(Until this happened...)
(Katherine glared at Aoki and slapped him in the face.)
(Aoki held his cheek looking at Katherine.)
(Kiyomi smile faded away, she felt worried about him.)
"Aoki are you okay!?"
"Stay out of it, trash!"
"You're an outsider!"
"A peasant like you don't have anything to say about this family.!"
"You're pathetic, just like your father."
(Aoki was feeling depressed looking down.)
(Kiyomi expression was becoming dark.)
(Kiyomi broke her silence and punched Kayla in the face.)
(Aoki was surprised.)
"SHUT UP!!!"
"Kiyomi...?"
"You're the one who's pathetic!"
"What the hell you know!?"
"He's an amazing person I have ever met!"
"He have been so nice and caring..."
"He saved my live from ferocious monsters in the Dark Abyss."
"I'm grateful to be his first and only friend."
"So what if he's a peasant!"
"So what if he's poor!"
"I don't care about status of the rich and of the poor!"
"You don't know what he goes through!"
"Face the facts sister."
"You're the weakest link out of everyone in the Netherworld!"
"Father risked his life for us!"
"You're too stubborn to see it."
(Katherine was furious...)
(However...)
(Kimiko agreed with Kiyomi, except for Kayla.)
"You don't get to decide-"
"You don't get to talk either!"
(Kiyomi cutting Kayla off not letting her finished the sentence at all.)
"You can't even do your chores along with Katherine."
"You force us the do the hard work instead!"
"FOR A YEAR!!!"
"You two did what!?"
"We can explain-"
"I don't want to hear your lies!"
"You care when he died 5 hours ago!?"
(Skylar snapped and lectured her oldest daughters Katherine and Kayla.)
"You didn't do what I asked, did you!?"
"Well you see-"
"Did you!?"
"Fine, we didn't!"
"Yeah, because they were too busy on their hair and care products instead of doing their chores."
"Shut the hell up baby sister!"
"Silence Katherine and Kayla!"
"You don't get to talk to Kiyomi like that!"
"Why not!?"
"Yeah, why not!?"
"Unlike you two slackers..."
"Kimiko and Kiyomi did their chores along with yours..."
"Meanwhile you two focused on your own beauty over physical labor!"
"Why can't you two be more responsible like them!?"
(Skylar lectured her older daughters for the whole day.)
(Katherine and Kayla no longer share the same room as Kiyomi and Kimiko.)
(Katherine will have her own room in the basement.)
(Kayla's room will be on the 1st Floor.)
(Kimiko and Kiyomi will sleep on the 3rd floor sharing a room together next to their mother's room.)
(Kiyomi didn't realize that Aoki returned to his home on hid own.)

Need people to play DnD or Lancer or Fallout 2d20 or Dark Heresy 1st edition with. I hyper focused on them so much I have access to almost all the rules for them and generally I just want people TwT
(Feel free to click away here if you don't want a whole story thingy)
Because I'm already talking about it, I'll share some stuffs. Here is a dramatized version of one of my characters :D
-###############-
Von Karma sits up in bed. He's still sleepy, but it's his birthday. He drags himself to the bathroom, brushes his teeth, looks at his stark silver hair, brushes at it a bit, and smiles at the mirror. It's important that he affirms himself, or he'll get sad again. He gets dressed, leaves his room, and goes across the manor to his study. His drawings are strewn about, a few books on the practice of ancient law and order. He starts messing about with his little computers, trying to get his AI buddies to work. He sets them to argue about something he read in the books, a court case. He has them fill in the blanks for fun, and they try to put in a show. He smiles, content to be spending his 18th birthday with his two friends.
With the crackling of the PA system, he gets called to his Overseers office. The guy that's been his father stand in his whole life.
The overseer shows him a document. The document outlines that Karma has been basically created to pilot mechanical suits for wars that a corporate entity is fighting for the highest bidder. He's told that this is the end of his life in the manor, and now he can go see the stars and meet people, as long as he helps out his family.
He accepts. He's scared of hurting people, but his Overseer says that his genetic base means that he'll get over that fear soon, and that his first job won't be combat. He nods.
He's told to go to the medical room and get a few shots so that he doesn't get sick. He obliges, sitting in the room as a machine draws blood from him and injects him with various medicines. It's always known what's best.
-###############-
A few days later, He enters his first suit. it's a large, chunky mech with a giant cannon he picked out on the top. As he sits down, he looks down at his ai chip, and plugs it in. His friends pop up on the display, and help him learn about the functions in the mech.
He smiles as one of his friends plays Funky Town for him to help him soothe his nerves.
Then the drop starts. Hurtles to the world below, thrusters barely keeping him stable.
Objective: Find and reclaim Device
As his mech lands on ground, he looks around. It's a desolate place. Ruins. As he walks towards the objective he's been given, he hears the sound of gunshots rattling somewhere ahead. As he pilots the mech closer, he sees a mech fighting down by some sort of outpost. The outpost is a roughly made structure. A mech is fighting out front, swinging large blades at the robots. Other people are firing down at the swarm from the walks. He can tell they've used their mech to move cars and scrap to make walls.
The people seem to be fighting off a swarm of small robots, but they're failing. Getting picked off. Karma moves the mech forward and starts to help, using the sheer mass of the shield and a combat arm weapon to help destroy the swarm. When it's over, he comes out of his machine to meet these people.
He meets a few people. Not many of them made it here. Preston, Guill, Jane, Trudy, they're all that's left.
He talks about his mission here, how he thinks he was sent down to help them. Asks if they have found some sort of device here that seemed weird or important. They bring him to a basement where they've holed up. Inside, he sees a large a squarish box with a keypad and screen. They apparently were just going to scrap it. He thanks them.
He has never been around people in this way. He shares some food with them from his kit, talks to them, learns about them.
Preston was a farmer mostly, but the recent swarms of robots made him flee his farm with his farm equipment, a mech suit, and he came here where he knew there was concrete walls and a basement.
Guill didn't talk much, but he had a distinct jacket on, some sort of blazer that makes him part of the local law enforcement. Or well, did make him.
Jane was from off planet. She had come here to get some things she had to ferry back to her world. Basically a suit case full of data sticks. She laughs about how she threw it at a robot when it came for her, and never went back for it. It seemed almost silly now, that it was so important.
Trudy was young, maybe highschool years. She didn't look well. her clothes didn't fit, like she had taken them from somewhere. She told Karma that she had been in the hospital, recovering from a disease that she had. She finally was told she was going to pull through, but a week later, everyone was gone.
They turned in for the night, Karma taking the chance to get a bit of rest. He slept nice for once. The fear of these robots was lessened by these people being around.
When he woke up the next morning, he talked a bit more with these people, even talked about how his corporation is supposed to do some disaster relief. Maybe he can get them help, a rescue even. He heads to the device on the table, and interacts with the key pad the way he was told.
There's a flash of light. Burning like he's never felt before for just a second.
-###############-
The Overseer presses the switch on his desk after seeing the display go blank.
"Do you have them ready?"
The voice crackles to life on the other side.
"Yes, sir. We have three on standby already, and multiple more growing as we speak. The blood sample took well to the process."
"Good. Bring me the next boy then."
-###############-
Von Karma sits up in bed. He's still sleepy, but it's his birthday.

Baby Fever
Hello lovelies! I hope everyone is well! This little fic is for the amazingly talented @buckyownsmylife 2k/Birthday Challenge! Which the theme for it was breeding kink. Which how could I not participate in that? Breeding kink just happens to be one of the biggest kinks I have(and i don’t even want kids, go figure) So I looked through my Masterlist and realized I didn’t have a breeding kink fic with Steve. Well, I can’t say that anymore!
Thank you for hosting this challenge you lovely, beautiful human! And congrats on the 2k!! You deserve that and so much more! I hope everyone enjoys!
Rating: Explicit (duh, it’s a breeding kink fic)
Words: 2.8k
Warnings: breeding kink(again, duh), Professor!Steve(I feel like he’s a warning all by himself, language, age gap, unprotected sex(I mean, it’s kind of implied but I’ll put the warning anyway)
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
“How long do we have to stay at this thing?”
You help can’t but roll your eyes at your husband of 4 months. “I told you I’m not sure. It’s my niece’s 1st birthday party. You could’ve stayed home you know.”
Steve pulls up to your sister’s house and parks among the other vehicles in the front yard. “Yeah and give them even more reasons to hate me? No thanks.”
See, Steve wasn’t your family’s favorite person. It all has to do with the fact that he’s 10 years older than you and how you guys met, which was during your freshman year of college. You were the innocent student and he was your history professor.
The attraction was instant and very mutual between you two. But dating students at this particular university was frowned upon and Steve could have lost his job. So, you admired each other from afar….that is until the semester was over. You went to visit him in his office after your last class and he eagerly bent you over his desk and ruined you for any other future man you may have.
Well, that was 6 years ago now. Your family of course didn’t approve and thought he was just taking advantage of a young, naive student. Your mom was the first to come around when she noticed a change in your demeanor and how happy he made you. She talked some sense into your dad and he eventually backed off as well.
It took until Steve put a ring on your finger for your sister to accept him. Although you know her and her friends still judged you two. You could tell by the looks you guys always got whenever around them. You learned to not let it bother you. Steve was amazing. He was attentive, caring, and he loved you with everything he had. The only flaw he had was that he didn’t want kids.
It almost made you consider not marrying him. You had always wanted kids. But, in the end you realized you wanted Steve for the rest of your life more than a baby. But he did adopt a kitten with you. So it’s a win, win.
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
He gets out of the car and grabs the gift out of the trunk. You had gotten her an outfit that says ‘My aunt is cooler than your aunt’ and various toys that she would enjoy. Plus, being the book editor you were, you couldn’t not get her a book. So, you got her the very first Harry Potter book. When Steve saw you wrapping it with a questioning look, you told him it was never too early to start a child’s transition into being a Potterhead.
You skipped excitedly next to Steve as you made your way to the front door. He couldn’t help but chuckle at your enthusiasm. “You excited or something, sweetheart?”
After ringing the doorbell, you turn towards him. “Of course I am! I love my little niece!”
Truth was, you knew you were never going to have a baby of your own. So you poured all of your love and joy for a baby into your niece.
You’re pulled from your thoughts when your brother-in-law, Matt, answers the door.
“Mr. and Mrs. Rogers! Glad you made it! Come on in!” He ushers you 2 inside, helping you both hang your coats up in the hall closet. He then points to the obvious gift table. “You can just set that down there, Steve. And if you’d like, me and a bunch of the other husbands are downstairs in the basement watching the game. You’re more than welcome to join us.”
Steve looks at you, silently asking for permission. You give him a quick pecking the lips. “Go have fun. Just make sure to come back up for food and presents.”
As Steve heads downstairs with Matt, you can’t help but take in all the decorations. Little Miss Lindsey just happens to currently be obsessed with The Little Mermaid. So of course the theme is under the sea. Your sister really went all out. Streamers, balloons, and even mermaid figurines were everywhere. There’s even mermaid confetti on the tables.
You head in search of your sister and the birthday girl, one of which you find in the kitchen. “Hey sis! Need any help?”
Your sister, Rachel, turns from the hot dog sauce she’s stirring on the stove and gives you a big hug. “Oh, thank god you’re here! Can you grab the vegetable tray and potato salad out of the fridge and put them on that table over there?”
“Sure! Where’s Linds?” You ask as you grab the requested items out of the fridge.
Your sister returns to the sauce on the stove. “She’s still napping. I should be getting her up soon. Where’s Steve? He stay home? I know this isn’t really his thing.”
You take the plastic wrap off the potato salad and sit it amongst the smorgasbord of other food on the table. “Of course he’s here. He’s down in the basement with the other men.”
You sister lets out a sigh. “Yeah, I told Matt they could only watch until everybody got here. Ah, shit. I think I hear Lindsey crying.”
“I’ll get her!” Quickly jumping at the chance to see her.
“You sure? That would be great! The outfit I want her to wear is on the changing table. And can you do her hair up in the bow, too?”
“You got it!” You make your way down the hall towards Lindsey’s room, her crying getting louder. You open the door and see her sitting up in her crib. Her crying quiets the moment she sees you. She gets a big ole smile on her face and reaches out for you. “Hi, sweet girl! How is the birthday girl today?” You pick her up and give her a big hug. “How about we get you changed into your party outfit?” She just coos back at you in response.
You push her outfit aside and lay her down on the changing table. Quickly realizing she’s wet, you give her a fresh diaper. She attempts to ‘help’ as you try to change her into her party outfit. Which after it’s on her, she looks like a little mermaid. You quickly brush her hair and pull as much of it as you can into a ponytail on the top of her head and add the matching bow. You stand back a little from her and clap your hands. “What a pretty girl! Are you ready to join your party?” You pick her up and turn around to head out of the room. You’re surprised to see your husband standing in the doorway.
“Hey, I thought you were watching the game?” He shrugs his shoulders and walks towards you two. “I missed you.” He tickles Lindsey’s side, causing her to giggle. “Happy Birthday, little one.” You can’t help but feel your heart warm. That always happens anytime your husband interacts with a baby.
“I was just helping Rachel out by getting her ready. She seemed a little frazzled in the kitchen.” You turn your attention back to Lindsey. “Come on, sweet girl. Let’s go join your mommy in the kitchen!”
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
The next hour goes by in a blur. You weren’t really paying attention to anyone else. All of yours on Lindsey. The only food she seemed to want was what was on your plate. You didn’t mind sharing. Then she got to ‘smash’ her cake. Which for Lindsey it meant taking delicate little bites from said cake, mostly of the icing. She did still manage to get it all down the front of her though. But that’s okay, Rachel of course had a back up outfit ready.
You had just polished off your hot dog when Rachel walked back into the room with a now clean Lindsey. Steve grabbed yours and his plates to go dispose of.
Rachel sat on the floor with Lindsey who immediately started crawling towards you. “I think you’re gonna have to join us, sis.”
You can tell it’s hurting Rachel’s feelings a little that Lindsey is so attached to you today. Nevertheless, you join them on the floor, placing Lindsey in your lap. “Ready to open presents, sweet girl?”
Rachel turns to Matt. “Honey, could you start handing out the presents please?”
He nods and goes to grab the first of many presents. He sits it down in front of Lindsey who immediately goes for the tissue paper. She doesn’t even seem to care about the present in the bag. You laugh and try to get her attention on the gift inside.
You look up and see everyone laughing at the birthday girl who only wants the tissue paper. You notice Steve towards the back of the crowd, only he’s not laughing. He’s giving you a look. You’ve seen that look before. It instantly sends a shiver down your spine and makes your panties wet. He wants you.
You try to give him a stern look. He shouldn’t be looking at you like that in the middle of your niece’s party. He puts his hands up in surrender.
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
After taking almost 2 hours to open the rest of the gifts, Lindsey was a sleepy girl. You were sitting on the couch with Lindsey cuddled up into your chest. You were gently rocking her back and forth. You look over at your sister who was cleaning up the mess from the presents.
“I can go put her down for a nap, Rach. I don’t mind.”
“Thanks, sis. You seem to be her favorite person today so she’d probably scream if I tried to do it. Matt! Could you get a bottle ready for Lindsey so my sister can put her down for her nap?”
A few minutes later he comes out with the bottle and hands it to you.
You stand up and look over at Steve. “I shouldn’t be too long. Did you want to head out of here after I put her down? I know you still have those papers to grade.”
He nods. “Yeah, if you don’t mind. Thanks, sweetheart.”
You squeeze his bicep as you pass by him. “Of course not. Like I said, this shouldn’t take too long.” You glance at Lindsey and notice she’s having trouble keeping her eyes open.
🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
Just like you predicted, it only took Lindsey about 15 minutes to fall asleep. You take one last glance at her, your heart tugging a little, knowing you’ll never have one of your own.
You quietly close the door and don’t even take 2 steps before the door across the hall opens to reveal Steve. You look at him in confusion. “Babe? Why are you in the laundry room?”
He doesn’t respond. Instead, he grabs your arm and pulls you into the room with him. He makes sure to shut the door behind him.
“Steve, what are you doing? I thought we were leaving?”
He pushes you to the front of the washing machine and presses himself up against you, immediately making you feel how hard he is. “Need you, baby.” He reaches around and starts undoing your jeans.
You start pushing his hands away and try to turn around. His hold on your waist tightens, stopping you.
“Steve, we are not doing this here. You can wait until we get home.”
You are suddenly pushed until your front is resting on the top of the washing machine, Steve covering his body with yours. He lets out a low growl in your ear. “This” he presses his bulge more firmly against your ass “is your fault. So, you’re going to help me with it.”
You turn your head to the side as he pushes your jeans over the curve of your ass. “Me? What the fuck did I do? I haven’t even really talked to you today. Been with Lindsey all day.”
He fastens his pace in removing his own jeans, only lowering them enough to free his aching cock. He lands a smack to your panty covered ass. “Exactly. Made me so hard watching you with the baby. Made me think what it’d be like if we had one. What you’d look like swelled with my kid. Knew I had to have you.”
You managed to push him back far enough to stand up straight and turn around to face him. “Steve, I’m not going to let you fuck me in my sister’s laundry room.” He launches at you, trapping your body between his and the washing machine. “It’s cute that you think you’re in charge. Now, I’m going to fuck a baby into you. And I can either do that here or I’ll take you out in the living room where everyone is and bend you over there.”
Fuck. These panties are officially fucked. Still, you have questions. “I thought you didn’t want kids, Steve? Plus I’m on the pill.”
His face turns soft for a second. He cups your cheek in his left hand. “I didn’t think I did. But seeing you with her today? Now that’s all I want, all I can think about. You with our baby. You’d be the best mother. And you’ll just stop taking your pill. Starting today. We’ll keep trying until it takes. Is this something you’re even still wanting?”
You grab onto his wrist and push your cheek against his palm. “Of course it is.” You turn back around and bend over the washer. You lower your panties to your knees and shake your ass in his direction. “Well? What are you waiting for? Fuck a baby into me, Steve.”
He growls and closes the distance between you. He grabs the base of his cock and rubs the tip through your dripping folds. “Don’t have time to stretch you out first, sweetheart. And I’m really worked up, so this will probably be quick.”
You push back against him, eager to get him inside you already. “Don’t care. Just please, fuck me Professor Rogers.” You knew that’d get him.
“Fuck.” Is the only warning you get before he buries himself in you to the hilt. He just gets his hand over your mouth before your moan escapes your throat.
He only gives you a second to adjust to his size before he starts a bruising pace. After a few thrusts, he removes his hand from your mouth and smacks your ass. He feels you clench around him. “Yeah? You like when your professor fucks you?”
You quickly nod your head. “Yeah. You fuck me so good. Need your cum. Need you to fill me up.”
Steve quickens his pace even more if that’s possible. He moves his left hand off your hip and moves it around you to find your clit. He presses quick circles against it. “Need you to cum first, sweetheart. Need to feel you squeeze me.”
You start pushing back to meet his thrusts. You can feel the coil inside you ready to snap. You just need a little something more.
Steve leans over you and starts pressing kisses up your spine, his pace never faltering. Once he reaches your shoulder, he bites down lightly. He moves his mouth next to your ear. “Come on, sweetheart. Cum for your professor. Then I’ll fill you up nice and full, get you pregnant. Cum for me, Y/N.”
You press your face into the crook of your elbow to muffle your scream as you cum undone on his cock. Your orgasm triggers his. He cums with a quiet shout as he fills you full of his spend, some of it leaking out around him. He gives a few more shallow thrusts before stopping and catching his breath.
He rubs his hands up and down your back. “You okay? I didn’t hurt you did I?”
You turn your head so you can look at him. “Mmm, i’m great.” You can’t help but let out a little giggle, feeling drunk on sex.
Steve smiles down at you and moves his hand until it’s resting on your lower stomach. “I hope it worked.” He slowly pulls out and watches as his cum starts leaking out of your pussy. He quickly scoops it up and pushes it back inside, causing a whimper to escape your lips. “Sorry, sweetheart. Can’t let any of it go to waste.”
Once he’s sure he’s got it all, he quickly pulls your panties back into place. He stands you up and turns you around to press a sweet kiss to your lips. “I love you so much, thank you for being mine.”
You give him a big smile. “I love you, too. And thank you for picking me.” You bend down to pull up your jeans, Steve mirroring your actions. Once you’re both redressed, you wrap your arms around his neck and press a firm kiss to his lips.
“Now, let’s hurry up and get home. Want you to fill me up again.” You give him a wink and turn to head out the door. “You coming?”
He smirks as he starts following you out. “Oh, I will be.”

Day 7: Interruptions
Prompt: Masturbation Pairing: Mulder/Scully Rating: Explicit Words: 3,437 AO3 Link || Masterlist
🖤 Content warnings; mulder/scully, smut, plot what plot/porn without plot, shameless smut, masturbation, masturbation interruptions, vibrators 🖤
The 5 times Scully was interrupted masturbating and the 1 time she didn’t care.
The 1st:
“Mmm…”
My hips arch as I take my fingers deeper – as best I can with the sheets tangled around my legs. I should wiggle myself free but I can’t stop now things are starting to feel so good so I just let my fingers work their magic and relax into the mattress. I have all night, a rare occasion while we’re working, but I think I deserve a little self lovin’.
I giggle. Self lovin’ indeed.
My hand feels blindly around the bed and I sigh in relief when my fingers find my vibrator. There are just some things fingers can’t do. With expertise, I bring the bullet down my body and under the sheets to nestle against my clit, smirking when my body shudders and toes wiggle against cotton.
“Jesus!”
A particular angle makes my muscles clench tightly around my fingers, trying to pull them deeper, which I do by slipping two fingers past the second knuckle with a moan. I feel myself getting closer and all the signs of my approaching orgasm are starting; the flexing of my stomach, heat flushing my cheeks and a tingle in my nipples.
But one thing that isn’t usual, is the knocking I hear. At first I ignore it, with a flick of my thumb to increase the vibrations, rewarded with a seeping gush of arousal and I’m suddenly thankful for having room services to clean these sheets.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
“Scully? You there?”
My fingers still instantly and I frantically kick off the sheets and fumble to turn off the vibrator before stashing it under my pillow, wrapping myself in the robe I had thrown over the end of the bed.
Trust Mulder to have the worst timing.
My clit aches in protest as I rub my thighs together and attempt to fix myself up in the mirror and hide my obvious arousal. Hopefully, he doesn’t notice.
“Y-Yeah, Mulder. I’m just coming.”
Sigh. Well, I was almost just coming.
With a deep breath and another tight clench of my thighs, I unlock the door to see Mulder standing there with his jacket over his shoulder and his eyebrow cocked.
“You okay, Scully? You look a bit flushed.”
“I’m fine, Mulder. I just got out of the shower. Did you need anything?”
I don’t mean to sound standoffish but the quicker I can get him out of my room without embarrassing myself, the better; there’s also a look in his eyes that makes me know he isn’t buying my shower excuse.
“Did you want to get something to eat?” His voice is hopeful, tipped with a playful tone that I’m just learning to appreciate now we’re sleeping together. “Unless I’m interrupting something?”
My eyes widen.
“N-No!” I gather myself with a defiant raise of my head. “I was just getting ready for bed.”
“At 7 pm?” He hides his smirk well.
“I didn’t see you with your hands in corpses all d-“
“Okay, okay!” He raises his hand with a smile.
Even though my pussy is begging me for relief, my stomach growls loudly and for the first time tonight, I realise how hungry I am.
I sigh in defeat.
“I’ll meet you at the car.”
—— xxx ——
The 2nd:
Fuck, these cramps are killing me.
I’m stuffed into the toilet cubicle of our basement bathroom with my fingers between my legs and I know I only have a few minutes to avoid Mulder’s suspicion.
My head falls back with a groan as I keep up the pace I know I need at this moment; rough and quick. It’s awkward with my skirt bunched at my waist and my pantyhose pulled down just enough to squeeze my hand into my underwear, but it will have to do.
I’m ovulating and with that comes a spike in my hormones. I feel itchy in a way that nothing can scratch and if I’m going to continue the workday without either biting Mulder’s head off or folding over in pain from my nagging cramps, I need this.
Everything's overstimulated and I can’t say it feels all that pleasurable, but I struggle on even as my wrist cramps. That’s going to hurt like hell tomorrow. After a quick look at my wristwatch, I feel myself getting somewhere and I bite my lip and curl my toes in anticipation.
4 and a half minutes must be a new record for me.
I’m starting to slip into my pre-orgasmic state of unawareness when I hear the hinges squeak on the bathroom door. Please, no. Maybe if I keep quiet enough I can come quickly and Mulder wouldn’t be any more the wiser.
“Hey, Scully, I’m sorry to disturb you but Skinner needs us ASAP,” I can see his shoes stopped just outside the cubicle.
I cover my mouth with my hand and try desperately to speed up my body’s process but I only end up wincing when I get no reward, only painful friction. For fucks sake!
“Scully? You okay?”
“I’m fine, Mulder.” I snap.
I’m not fine.
I pull my hand out of my underwear and fix my pantyhose with a frustrated huff. The waves of pain build again and I silently curse him for interrupting my attempt to find a natural relief in the form of a surge of orgasmic hormones. I flush the toilet and smooth my skirt down before opening the door to see Mulder standing by the sinks.
Does he think he has to stand there and make sure I follow? I don’t want to be on Skinner’s bad side any more than he does.
I scowl towards him and wash my hands; because he knows what I smell like when I’m aroused now and I don’t want to give him any indication of what I was doing.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
I go to snap at him, tell him that; Of course, I’m not fine. My insides are ripping apart and you’ve interrupted my chance at pain relief, but when I look up at him, I see genuine concern and I’m reminded that none of this is really his fault.
“I’m okay, just feeling a bit off,” I sigh and dry my hands on my skirt as his hand rests on my lower back.
“Come on, let’s go get this over with.”
—— xxx ——
The 3rd:
It’s been two weeks since I last got off.
I’ve never felt this high strung, like a rabid animal pacing in its cage and tonight’s the first time I’ve had some "me time", and like hell I'm going to waste this opportunity.
A low, guttural moan rumbles in my throat as I grip the sheets tightly, taking my silicone dildo deeper with a roll of my hips.
Two. Fucking. Weeks.
Balancing up on my knees, I take a sharp breath when the change in angle sends a shooting pleasure from the tips of my toes to the ends of my hair, plastered to my neck with sweat.
“Fuck yes!” It’s an exclamation of relief as I feel an explosive orgasm start to bubble up in the pit of my stomach.
Fingers rub and pinch at my nipple when I start to ride my toy in earnest, the wet sounds between my legs fill my head with sinful thoughts. I’m glad I put that towel down.
Visions of Mulder fill my head; him below me with this cock thrusting deep and hitting that spot that only he has ever managed to find. A particularly deep thrust brings me dangerously close and my body trembles in preparation of what's to come.
But my phone ringing snaps me back to reality.
Just leave it. Don’t answer it.
I slow my movements and wait for the ringing to stop, knowing I’m psychologically stuck between not being able to let myself go and my body desperate to achieve release. Just, please. Stop. Ringing.
As the room falls silent I thank God and intensely rock my hips as a tingle starts to blossom in my clit and my muscles become tighter and needier around silicone.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
“Oh, goddammit!”
I sink myself and take the toy in, right to the base, and reach for the phone.
“Hel-“
“Scully!”
It’s Mulder.
Of course, it’s fucking Mulder.
I have to bite back a moan when his voice makes me unexpectedly clench around the toy, its deepness making me feel deliciously stretched.
“Mulder, I’m busy-“
He cuts me off. “I’m waiting outside. There’s been a breakthrough in the Simmons case, we’re needed at the crime scene.”
The unprofessional part of me wants to tell him to fuck off and just go by himself and leave me alone so I can finally get my orgasm, but the pride I have for our work holds me back.
I sigh deeply and drop my head in defeat before I slowly rise off the toy and catch a moan in my throat at the loss of contact.
“Scully? Was that a moan?”
Fuck, I’m still on the phone.
“No! I was just stretching to get my shirt. Meet you in 5 minutes?”
“I’ll be waiting.”
I hang up and quickly clean myself up and begrudgingly get back into my work clothes.
Looks like I’ll have to wait a little longer too, just my fucking luck.
—— xxx ——
The 4th:
I haven’t stayed at Mulder’s in a week, both of us working overtime but I’d gotten to the stage today that crashing at his place and sleeping wrapped in his arms sounded like heaven.
Mulder’s aware that sex isn’t an option at the moment, "Ovulation is a bitch," I'd told him, but he’s just content holding me and massaging my aching stomach. He has amazing hands. This isn’t a good thing tonight as every innocent touch he gives me makes my skin burn and causes arousal to flood my system so intensely that I had to eventually excuse myself to shower, to get away from his touch.
Which is where I am now, surrounded by his shower gels and shampoo bottles with my fingers teasing needy nipples and my thighs clenching together frantically. Everything feels far too sensitive, every direct touch bordering on painful so I have to revert to this method.
It’s awkward and reminds me of my childhood; learning about masturbation through the friction of bed sheets and pillows, but it’s working.
God, yes, it’s working.
The hot water rolls down my stomach and teases through my auburn curls and it only intensifies the clenching, arching and rocking of my thighs and hips.
I find a new angle, the water hitting my mound gently that makes me moan, head tilting back as I let my body take over and find its rhythm. One of my hands travel down to rest on wiry curls, hips rocking eagerly into my palm as I begin to lose myself; pressure is building in my stomach and everything starts to tingle.
It’s the opening of the door that catches my attention and I still my body and watch him through the blurry shower curtain as it’s not unusual for him to brush his teeth or grab a drink while I shower, so I wait.
And breathe.
But the rustling of clothes hitting the floor tells me that a glass of water isn't his intention today. With a shaky breath, I move both hands to cradle my core, whether it be out of some ingrained modesty or my body’s desperate need to just not let go, I’m not sure.
He pokes his head in and gives me the once over with an appreciative smile, his pupils dilating.
“Can I join you?” He asks and when I nod, he slowly pulls the curtain back to reveal his naked body, my eyes falling the faintest erection that I know he can’t control.
I wish I had the power to tell you no.
I shuffle so he can get under the spray and my arousal skyrockets, causing me to shiver. He must misunderstand it for coldness so he tugs me towards him and his gentle hands slide up and down my arms. As he pulls me closer, I wrap my arms around him in return and I have to resist the urge to angle my hips up into his cock.
Fuck, it’s agonising.
It’s a good thing I love him.
—— xxx ——
The 5th:
God, why do you hate me?
My fingers bunch into fists as I feel every vibration of the car sliding up the seam of my jeans that unfortunately rest flush against my clit. It’s been 2 hours now and I’m so close to either throwing myself out of the car or ripping open my jeans and getting that orgasm that is now a month overdue.
But Mulder is sitting in the driver's seat, his fingers tapping the steering wheel along with a song on the radio which makes both scenarios impossible.
Here I am, feeling like electricity personified and there he is calm and collected with not a care in the world. Fuck him.
I try to ease the pressure with a shift of my hips, but when it doesn’t work I huff in frustration which quickly turns into a sigh of relief when he turns into a gas station.
“I’m just gonna fill up,” He works a sunflower seed between his teeth. “Did you want anything?”
“No, I’m good.” I purse my lips with a fake smile.
I’m far from good, it’s quite alarming how far from good I actually am.
With a peck to my cheek, he gets out of the car. The silence is deafening and my eyes frantically look around to find the station deserted. No eyes to watch.
Could I do this?
I could come with just friction alone and I could make this quick.
The instant he walks away I’ve already made up my mind.
My hands slip between my legs and press roughly against my jeans and god, it’s incredible and my thighs squeeze my hands in appreciation. I’m confident I can close my eyes as he’ll be a few minutes at least. Closing my eyes will also help to ease the anxiety I feel about doing something as vulnerable as this in public.
I’m ready to burst and Mulder’s lingering smell of salt and sandalwood only brings me closer as I think about his hands, his tongue and his cock until suddenly my eyes snap open.
I’m going to come, right here at the gas station.
I can feel the telltale blush climbing up my chest, neck and settling deep in my cheeks. I’m so close.
But out of the corner of my eye, I see Mulder jogging back to the car.
“No!” I whimper loudly in a voice that’s so unlike me.
He opens the door with a chuckle, completely unaware of my internal nightmare. “I didn’t want to stay in there longer than I had to, it was dirtier than Frohike’s porn collection.”
Please, don’t mention porn right now.
He cocks his eyebrow at the hands nestled between my legs. I’ve stopped moving them but I can’t take the risk of him seeing how wet I am. Or smelling me.
“You okay there, Scully?”
“Yeah, it’s just cold without the heater on.”
“You don’t look cold,” He teases as his eyes move to my chest. “You look flushed actually.”
“Shut up, Mulder. I’m just cold.”
I turn my head and avoid his gaze as he starts the car and the vibrations, once again, make me sink into the seat.
This ride home is going to be the death of me.
—— xxx ——
The 6th (Final):
I haven’t paid attention to a single word he’s said the whole drive home as I'm completely focused on grasping at the last of my self-restraint not to just come all over Mulder’s car seat. Just another block and I’m home. Just hang on until then, please.
He drops me off with a kiss and now that I’m in my apartment all my self-restraint flies out the window.
I strip and fumble to find the bullet vibrator in my bottom drawer, switching it on and putting it between my legs before I even settle onto the bed.
“Oh, god yes!” I moan, deep and thick and fall onto my back, my eyes shut as I start to play with any flesh I can touch.
My fingers are instantly coated in my arousal and become slippery against the silicone as a hot trickle slides down my perineum to settle on the sheets below. I feel unhinged, feral, as my hips desperately rock against the vibrations, causing everything to feel hot, pulsing and completely exquisite
I don’t hear Mulder until he’s already in my apartment, his footsteps heavy and familiar. Fuck, sometimes I hate that he has a key.
I should stop, I really should. Just cover up and give him another excuse.
But I can’t. I’ve waited too long and there’s no way I’m giving this orgasm up. Fuck it.
He should see what he has reduced me to.
My fingers tremble at the thought of being caught and when I open my eyes I see him standing in the doorway with a glazed expression and a bulge in his pants.
Even though I’m committed to continuing, I sink into the mattress with sudden shyness. I’ve never done this in front of another person before and the vulnerability makes me avert my eyes and pull the vibrator away.
But suddenly he’s there, kneeling on the bed with this bottom lip between his teeth.
“Keep going,” His voice is deep with unbridled arousal. “Scully, please, don’t stop.”
All the trepidation I felt vanishes and when I touch the vibrator back to my clit he whimpers; he fucking whimpers and it’s immediately my new favourite sound.
I’m quickly jolted towards the edge as his hands softly glide up my calves to my thighs, an expression of intimacy that he knows is my biggest weakness, something I adore.
“I’m close,” I breathe out as our eyes connect. “Keep touching me.
He moans his approval. “Always, baby.”
It’s his pet name for me; something we only use during sex, that’s my undoing.
“God! I’m coming, I’m co-“ I can’t even finish my sentence.
I’m not usually one to be overly vocal in bed but I’m suddenly screaming out a mixture of his name and obscenities as my orgasm rips through me. Finally!
My eyes slam shut and my hips arch violently off the bed and I’m vaguely aware of something hot gushing out of my pussy. It feels never-ending, a repetition of contraction and release deep inside my pussy, my asshole and strongest in my clit, that floods my entire soul with overwhelming pleasure.
His hands are still touching me, grounding me, as I come back down to earth. I crack my eyes open to see him with eyes full of amazement and cheeks burning pink with arousal.
“Wow, you’ve been holding out on me,” He bites his bottom lip. “That was fucking incredible, Scully.
I giggle as my body floods with oxytocin and dopamine, then hum in appreciation when he continues to move his hands over my thighs. “You have no idea how long I’ve been holding out, I’ve wanted to come all month. You and your sucky timing have ruined all my chances.”
His hands pause.
“What?” He looks confused. “You never finished after?”
His question catches me off guard. “What do you mean?”
“I’ve known, Scully, every single time. The hotel room, the bathroom at work,” he smiles when I try to cover my blushing cheeks, his hands pulling mine away. “My shower; that one nearly killed me…the car just now…I assumed you got off when you got home. I know I did.”
I bite my lower lip. “You got off? Every time?”
“Mmhmm, every time,” He moves his hands back down my body and I subtly arch into him. “So, I think that means I owe you 4 orgasms, to apologise for my sucky timing.”
I suddenly feel ready again, this time with a hunger to have him deep inside me when I come for the second time.
My lips curl into a smirk. “I think that’s only fair. But first, I think you should show me just what you did all those nights you got off,” My voice is thick with my arousal. “I showed you mine, now you show me yours, baby.”
My foot creeps towards him, toes wiggling to tease at his erection as he grins wickedly and rocks into my touch.
Oh yeah, this might have been worth it after all.

The fluff has taken over again... Could you work a little magic for 4 and 17? 👉🏻👈🏻
I didn’t know if you wanted 17 again or it was a typo and you wanted 7….so I did both. Also I’m a selfish bitch and used this to practice writing in 1st person. 😘
#4 Temple Kisses.
As soon as I read temple kisses I knew right away who this prompt was for: Eddie Kingston. My grumpy, antisocial, loud, ready to fight for those he love in a heartbeat Eddie. Who is also sensitive, unsure of himself and so loving. He doesn’t have to pretend to be tough, because he is crazy enough to fight anyone. And when he loves his love is true and loyal. Eddie doesn’t need to recite poems or buy fancy gifts. He shows his love in smaller more personal ways, like calling me sweetheart or the way his arm wraps around my shoulder and pulls me into him. My favorite act of love is when he kisses my temple. If I had a long bad day, he pulls me into a hug and kisses my forehead. Before leaving for work after our goodbye kiss, he gently kisses my temple. When he has been on the road for days and he finally gets home at 3 in the morning, the first thing he does is kiss my temple, being careful not to wake me. Those are our special moments that no one can take away from us.
#7 Loves being the little spoon.
Ethan page is a fricken couch hog, he lays across all the seats instead of laying in one of the recliner seats. It drove me absolutely insane, when I would get home and see him taking up the whole couch watching YouTube videos. I end up just laying on top of him. Eventually he rolls his body so I’m laying behind him. I’d stretched my arm over him and press the side of my face against his back. This turns out to be the perfect spot to take a catnap as his boring unboxing or toy review videos always lull me to sleep. Now it has no gotten to the point where when I get home, Ethan moves his legs, so I can automatically crawl behind him. And if I don’t wrap my arm around him fast enough, he does it for me. At night we have to play Rock Paper Scissors to see who gets to be little spoon in the bed.
#17 Loves hugging you from behind. M
My lovable dumbass best friend Max Caster has a new crush and of course he Confided-in me because and I quote “read books like her, so tell me how to get in good with a babe that is smart.” After staring at him thinking that no one could be this much of an idiot and ignoring my heart break because he likes someone else I just walk away shaking my head. Later that night I hear him asking Anthony Bowens for advice. Bowens looks at Hook and tells him to ask him. Hook says “just be sexy,” before walking away. I guess Max decides to practice on me because for the next week he just hangs all over me and tries to discuss whatever book I’m reading. By hanging on me I mean that whenever he sees me, he just latches on to my back like some weird spider monkey. The first time he did it Max didn’t think about the fact that I am almost 100 pounds lighter than him and he is almost a foot taller than me, so he put his whole weight on me and we end up falling to the ground. And it was adorable and funny, even though I pretended I was annoyed with him. We’re all alone backstage in some random hallway. It’s been about a week since he started all of this and it kills me to ask about how it’s going with his crush, because I know when he does eventually ask her it, It’s going to destroy me not having him hang all over me anymore. “Still in the friend zone,” he answers hugging me from behind his head resting on my shoulder. “Oh my god! Is this still going on?” Taz New York accent has us jumping apart like we’re kids in a basement making out. “Jesus Christ Christine pull your head out of your ass. It’s you he likes. And Max man up and ask her out instead of moping around in the locker room.”

CHAPTER 2: The Rebirth
You had a hard time falling asleep that night. Your mind is trying to remember the vision, but the images remain blurry. There was a faint heat lingering from the man's body pressed against yours.
‘Could we possibly be…. It’s not impossible but….’, your mind was working 10,000 miles an hour trying to think of the possibilities. There was only one thought that came to mind and it made you blush. You pulled up the covers and snuggled against your stuffed plushies and pillows. You had to pass by the library and get permission tomorrow.
At least the weaponry was amazing. Noritoshi senpai even showed you inside and pointed you to the crossbows he often practices with. ‘He must be a capable sorcerer. The way he holds himself up with such dignity was already a dead giveaway. A natural born leader huh.’ you wondered.
You fell asleep that night dreaming about a lovely Phoenix, being reborn from ashes.
◇◇◇
Noritoshi was pacing around in his room. He had passed by the library on the way back from dinner, and grabbed several books. “The Secrets of Foreseeing the Future, Vol. 1”, “Alternate and Parallel Worlds”, “Past Lives: A Study”, and “The Life and Works of Abe no Seimei".
He paced around his dorm room, looking over the book that was bothering him the most. “The Tales and True Records of Soulmates”.
He scanned through the main parts of the book. It spoke about bonding. There apparently were 2 types of bonding, emotional and physical.
When 2 halves of a whole reach a certain degree of understanding of each other, they establish what's called a half-bond or a phantom bond.
This begins to link their emotions. Intense anger, fear, joy, disgust, sorrow, and love can be felt from the very first stage. As their bond strengthens, they begin to share more emotions, as well as short strong intentions.
Intentions are used to depict a state of being. If they have a goal or a state of feeling over a particular matter, their partner can pick up on it.
The near final stage of a full bond is when they start to share physical sensations. When one gets injured, it will resound with the other.
The strongest bond is known to share special abilities and thoughts via telepathy between a fated pair.
Noritoshi's mind was definitely in overdrive. There was SO MUCH information on soulmates. But the one thing that wasn't explicitly stated was how a soulmate pair found each other.
How do soulmates confirm that they are indeed soulmates? Most of the information was based on soulmates who simply claimed to be. Then what about how they came to be?
So now he knows that soulmates are supposedly able to share emotions and feelings to a certain degree. But there was a lack of information in the book. What about visions? The vision he shared with y/n was one of a kind.
It kept discussing how the known most popular existence were the parents of Sugawara no Michizane. One of the three great vengeful spirits that is the ancestor of the Gojo clan.
He made up his mind. Taking out his phone, he dialed up his father.
Beep. “Noritoshi? It’s so late, why are you calling at this time? It best be an urgent matter.” his father gruffly answered.
“I am sorry to disturb you father. It’s just, there is a new student here in school. A First year called Tsuchimikado y/n from the Tsuchimikado clan.”
“Ahhh, them huh? Powerful group even though there are only a few of them. They don’t really talk about their techniques that much. They are descendants of Abe no Seimei and yet they kept to themselves as a minor clan of jujutsushi… So what about her?”
“She might possibly be my soulmate, but I am still confirming. Do you have any books or records on soulmates at all?”
At this, his father sat up straight in his study. “Are you serious? And what can you say to prove such claims? Do you know how rare a soulmate bond is?”
"I am aware. And I know we may not be soulmates. But I have some suspicions. If you have any info about soulmates, The Abe clan, or the Tsuchimikado clans, I would appreciate it." Noritoshi replied.
"Okay. I'll have a look and get back to you. Feel free to come by the main house this weekend. Look over the main study. There are also some records on Soulmates there."
"Thank you father. Have a good evening."
Beep.
Noritoshi sighed. He undid his hair bindings and combed out his hair. And opened the book again. He read through the table of contents in case he missed out on any major pointers.
He couldn't read the book in one sitting, because he is still reviewing for the TOEIC and improving his English.
He yawned and was about to retire to bed, remembering his promise to bring you around tomorrow, when one particular word jumped at him.
The binding process of soulmates. He quickly flipped through to the page and found out with horror that some of the pages had been torn out.
It wasn't him who did it. (Obviously). But now he has to go and tell Utahime sensei about it.
He took a closer look at the remaining few pages.
"The Binding of Soulmates. It is known to vary per pair. Some pairs found themselves to be born with a matching symbol in the inside of their arms or on their necks from birth. While others form it upon passing the first stage of -" and the page ends with a violent diagonal tear from the upper right corner to the lower left.
That's pretty much all that he can take away from the book so far. Frustrated, he decided to go to sleep. Nothing about sharing visions was mentioned so far. Maybe they weren't a fated pair after all.
But deep in his gut, Noritoshi knew that you were an important person to him. That was for sure. As he fell asleep, he shared the same dream with you. A lone Phoenix, being reborn from its ashes.
◇◇◇
The following morning, you didn't know where to meet up with Noritoshi senpai so you simply went to the same place he left you last night. On your way there, you passed by a tall robot kind of thing which spooked you. You stared at it, wondering if it was a kind of automation that serves the technical school.
To your surprise, it turned towards you and bowed while greeting, "Hello. I'm a 1st year student here at Kyoto Jujutsu Technical College. You can call me Mechamaru. Kokichi Muta is my real name, but I use robots to fight."
Your eyes widened in surprise and curiosity. "My name is Tsuchimikado Y/n, also starting here as a first year student. Pleased to meet you!" You bowed back.
“So… is your body inside that robot?” you asked him.
“No, as a result of heavenly restriction, which if you haven’t heard of yet is a means of exchange/ a binding contract, my body is elsewhere. I am controlling this robot from afar.”
Your eyes bugged, “That’s incredible! To have that much cursed energy, plus it is over such a long distance.” You were jealous as long-ranged techniques are something you try to work hard and specialise on.
“It’s not that fun being physically stuck in a basement.” Mechamaru didn’t sound too amused.
“Ah, I’m sorry about that… “ you floundered as you mentally hit yourself for being so inconsiderate.
“No need to apologize. I am used to it.” He waved it off coolly.
"You're the first other 1st year I've met Mechamaru. I wonder when the others will come. I've heard of 2 others." You wondered.
"I've already met one of them. Miwa is her name. You won't miss her with her bright blue hair." He replied. His voice was so stiff and robotic, a strange feature.
"Ohhhh I see. I'll keep that in mind!" You smiled. "I'm afraid I have somewhere to be right now, but I'll catch you around for sure! Please take care of me."
"Don't let me keep you waiting. Please also take care of me and see you around." Mechamaru waved as you ran off.
More students to meet huh. Your heart pounded in nervousness and excitement. So it was Miwa and Mechamaru so far. ‘Ugh, I’m so bad with names. I’ll surely get used to it.’ you thought to yourself.
You rounded the corner and nearly plowed through Noritoshi senpai in your haste. “Whoa there, careful,” he held his hands out in case you slipped, but you were fine. You caught yourself just before you hit his personal space.
You were surprised to see him already there, in the same clothes he was in yesterday (was that his uniform? You had yet to get yours, which had custom arrangements).
"Good morning Noritoshi-senpai!" you beamed up at him. He looked down at you amusedly, liking your bright energy. “Good morning y/n.”
Your smile grew wider upon hearing your name fall from his lips for the very first time. For a moment the both of you just stood there smiling. Then Noritoshi beckoned you to his side as you walked around the campus.
"Did you sleep well last night?" He asked.
"Ah yes, though it might take some time getting used to the dorm rooms here. But everything is pretty much convenient. Especially the kitchenettes in our rooms." You were still excited about starting classes.
“Did you have your uniform tailored to your liking?” You asked him.
“Ah yes, I requested a looser fit. I am used to wearing a kimono and wooden sandals at home. I simply requested for them to be made in a similar fashion for comfort. And it gives me enough space to hide all of my weapons.” He smiled gently down at you.
“Ahhh I see. I have also put in a request for my uniform, but I don’t have it yet.” you said.
“Well, it shouldn’t be too long now, classes start in 2 days after all.”
He brought you around the main gardens. “It’s so big,” you gaped, excited to train here. There was so much open space, it would be good for flying practice. “The other buildings are offices for the staff, and warehouses for special tools and materials.” He explained.
Then Noritoshi led you to a corridor with tons of doors. “These are the 3rd year classrooms. First and second year classrooms are upstairs. We can have a look if you’d like?” He asked.
You agreed. And on your way to the staircase, you came face to face with a man going down the stairs. He was incredibly tall and ripped. With his hair tied up, a scar racing down on his left eye, he grunted at Noritoshi in greeting.
He came down and faced you both, before addressing Noritoshi. “You ready for class? Is this a new student?”
“Of course I am. And she is a first year. Tsuchimikado Y/n.” Noritoshi introduced you and you quickly bowed in greeting. “You can call me Tsuchi san or just Tsuchi as I know my last name is long. It is very nice to meet you!”
Noritoshi noted that you didn’t offer to be addressed by your first name this time and felt weirdly happy.
“Todo Aoi, 2nd year. So… what man or woman is your ideal type?” He asked as he loomed over you menacingly. You barely came up to this man's chest.
….. What in the world are you getting into?
Fun fact: The Tsuchimikado Clan are indeed a real clan descended from the Abe Clan and Abe no Seimei the Onmyouji himself. I chose Abe no Seimei as a parallel to the three great vengeful spirits from whom the big 3 Jujutsu families are descendants of. As Abe no Seimei was also a major figure during the Heian period. But of course my story is a work of fiction so other than the onmyouji himself, everyone else is not real^^.

The trial is here. It's the day that your family has been waiting for since this whole nightmare started. Unfortunately, Loki and Jade are both adamant that you remain on bed rest for the sake of the growing baby, and you ultimately end up losing the argument when you try to force them to let you come. Loki assures you that he'll be by her side for the both of you – supporting her the entire time.
In the back of your mind, you know the stress of hearing and seeing the evidence would be too much for you, and no one wants to see anything happen to your baby. Thankfully, Thor also appears to support his niece and brother – sitting on Jade's right as Loki sits on her left.
"I don't wanna see him," Jade mutters – looking down to the floor when Evan walks into the courtroom with his parents.
The teenager looks like he's injured – his leg has a slight limp, and his eye is swollen and dark. However, the seventeen-year-old has a smug smile on his face – his ego being stroked when he sees the television cameras on him. He takes his seat in between his lawyers, and they group together to discuss something quietly. Loki, Thor, and Jade try their hardest to hear what they're saying, but they're speaking far too quietly.
"I don't understand how he could have a defense," Thor says to you and Loki. "How can anyone deny that he did what he did?"
You shrug. "I don't know, Uncle Thor. I just want this to be over with."
The prosecution begins their opening statement by laying out all the facts of the case and making it clear what Evan Nichols is being tried for. His charges are as follows:
- 1st degree aggravated kidnapping
- 1st degree sexual assault (with forcible penetration)
- 1st degree sodomy
- Conspiracy to commit a kidnapping
- Conspiracy to commit a felony
- Felony stalking
- Harassment
- Attempted murder
- False imprisonment
- Assault with a deadly weapon
The first few witnesses to testify are the first responders who saved Jade from the small space she was being held in.
"Could you please state your name for the court and how you became involved in this case?" the prosecutor, Mr. Jeff Bards, began to question the officer.
"Brian David Wilson. I'm an NYPD SWAT officer who responded to the 911 call to 4892 E Graves Road," the witness explains.
"What happened upon arriving at the address?"
The officer took a deep breath before speaking. "We, the SWAT team, forced our way inside the house, and we started searching. I began to hear some muffled pleas for help, and when I followed them, I came across the fake wall in the home's basement. After removing the fake wall, I discovered that there was a small crawl-space type room."
"Can you confirm what the photo on the screen is?" Mr. Bards asks – a photo of the tiny, dark space where Jade had been held showing up on the screen.
"Yes, that is the crawl-space," he confirms
"And where was Ms. Lokisdottir located?"
"She was located in the back corner of the crawl space. She came out from hiding when she saw me, and I pulled her out of the space," officer Wilson stops to take a deep breath and gather his thoughts – trying to push his feeling aside. "Afterward, I carried her out of the house and to the ambulance that was waiting outside."
There's silence as the officer exits the witness stand – looking towards Jade and Loki as he goes to take his seat in the rows. The other officers testify – stating similar things to what the first one did. Then, everyone hears the fateful words.
"The prosecution calls Jade Pandora Lokisdottir to the stand, please."
Loki and Thor wrap their arms around the shaking sixteen-year-old – remind her that they're right there, and if she needs to, just look at them and they'll help her.
"You can do this, my love," Loki says softly. "Just pretend you're having a conversation."
"Okay," Jade nervously breathes out.
Thor hugs his niece close before she stands up. "You are so strong, Jade...just like your parents. You got this."
Jade exhales and nods – trying to walk up to the witness stand without falling. On the way, she refuses to look at the defense's side of the courtroom – disgusted as to how anyone could defend Evan.
Oh well, everyone has a right to a defense.
For a moment, Jade looks towards Evan. A smirk appears on her face when she sees his injuries – wondering who she needs to thank for the revenge. Before Jade turns her attention away, Evan takes the chance to blow a kiss towards her – excited to watch the goddess relive the nightmare he put her through.
"Could you please state your name for the court?" the prosecutor asks – looking directly at Jade.
"Um," Jade's voice is soft against the microphone. "Jade...Pandora Lokis-Lokisdottir."
"And can you tell the court how you came to know the defendant?"
Jade takes a deep breath and exhales – looking towards Loki and Thor for support. "Ye-yes. Um, we met at the mall when my parents took me shopping before the school year started. That weekend, we went out on a date, and then we started dating."
"Were you and the defendant ever sexual?
"Not...really," Jade answers. "Um, we only ever had oral sex, but that's it. I wa-wasn't comfortable with ever going any further than that."
"So, there was never any consensual sexual intercourse?"
"No."
"How long were you and the defendant dating?"
"Four months."
"During that time, did the defendant act inappropriately towards you in any sort of way?"
Jade exhales. "Yes. The last night we hung out together, he tried to force himself on me, but he ran away and drove off when I yelled for my dad."
"Ms. Lokisdottir, can you walks us through the day of September 3rd?"
Jade shakes her head and exhales nervously – looking towards Loki and Thor for their support. This is the first time she's ever spoken about what happened to her, and hopefully, it'll be the last.
"I was...at school, and Evan told me he wanted to speak with me privately, so I followed him out into the parking lot to smoke marijuana and talk in his car. When we got to his car, though, he locked the doors, and he took off from the parking lot." Jade swallows hard before continuing. "Um...I begged for him to stop and turn around – just let me go back to school, and I wouldn't tell anyone. But he didn't. He kept driving – pulling a knife from under his driver's seat and holding it to my throat. I tried to do as he said – hoping that he'd let me go, but he never calmed down. When we arrived at his house, no one was home. H-he led me into the basement and pulled a dresser away from the wall. It was a secret room behind the wall, and he made me...uh...he made me take all of my clothes off, so I was completely nude. He put a collar around my neck, and he connected it to a bolt in the floor so that I couldn't move much. He left for, I guess a couple hours, and he left me in the dark room. I remember how cold it was. It was freezing...especially since I didn't have any clothes. When he came back, he started to...do things."
"Could you explain what things were done to you by the defendant?"
Jade's eyes begin to tear up – her breathing becoming staggered as she thinks about how to word the horrific abuse she had been put through. The looks of support from Loki and Thor, however, give her a strength that she didn't know she had.
"There was...a metal bar," Jade begins quietly – biting her bottom lip to keep her thoughts going. "He had a long lighter with him, and he started to heat the bar up. He was laughing when he pressed the hot metal to my thigh – smiling at me while I screamed in pain as my skin started to burn. There's still a burn scar on my left thigh. When the bar finally cooled down, he threw it to the side. He grabbed me by the chain leash and forced me down to my knees. With his other hand, he...took his penis out of his pants and pried by mouth open. He grabbed the back of my head and used my mouth to get himself off. No matter how much I cried, and begged, and pleaded, he didn't stop. He found it entertaining. It turned him on." Jade looks out to see Loki and Thor becoming angrier by the second, but they're trying their best to remain calm for Jade's sake – knowing that they need to be her support. "After he was...finished, he uh, forced me to lie on the dirty floor. I tried to keep my legs closed, but he punched me in the face, which caused me to jump. Before I could try to close my legs again, Evan had them spread, and he began to...force his mouth...on me. I felt his teeth bite me, and I knew I was bleeding, but it seemed to turn him on even more. H-h-he reached over and grabbed the metal rod again, and h...I'm sorry...can I just...a moment?"
"Take your time," the prosecutor assures Jade – maintaining a professional composure.
Jade exhales deeply – closing her eyes and trying to gather her courage to continue.
"H-he began to use the metal rod to...assault me. He shoved it inside me – giving me cuts and bruises. I was bleeding, but he continued to thrust it in and out of me until he was satisfied. I thought he would finally be done, and I thought he'd take me home, but then I felt him begin to...insert himself...his...penis...into me. I tried to kick him off, but he held my legs as tight as he could to stop me from moving. It...I'm pretty sure he was trying to cause me pain. Finally, I stopped fighting – wanting him to just hurry up and let me go. I tried to stop crying because I didn't want him to be anymore satisfied with himself, but when I felt his fingers start to go into...the other side, I started fighting again. He pulled me up by the chain, and he forced me to look into his eyes. I remember he said that I was now his slut, and he was going to break me until I learned to love it. After a couple of minutes...he...ejaculated into me, which later resulted in a pregnancy. Evan was still wanting more though, so he turned me over and held my face to the floor as he entered my backside. Again, ignoring my cries and screams for him to stop. I lost track of how many times he did this...I think I may have blacked out or something, or maybe my brain made me forget in order to protect me from the memory, but the next thing I remember was being alone, redressed, and I heard the police officers calling out for me."
"Thank you, Ms. Lokisdottir," the prosecutor says with a proud smile.

Teenagers Part 2
Harry Potter Marauders Era
Link to Part 1
Pairings: Regulus Black x Reader
Rating: M
______
Getting out of potions didn’t come fast enough! As soon as the bell rang, Regulus was on his feet and out of the room. You let out a sigh and sat back in your chair.
I can’t believe that I told him that I wasn’t dating his brother…
You thought miserably before standing up and picking up your bag. The clear embarrassment of your action was finally hitting home. Instead of asking Regulus how his day was or some other nice comment you instead told him that you weren't dating his brother. Putting your hand over your face, you big Slughorn a good day. Why would Regulus care if you were dating Sirius or not? It wasn’t like he liked you or anything. Just because he was looking at you didn’t mean that he liked you.
I’m an idiot.
Walking into the Gryffindor common room, you were thankful to see Remus sitting by himself. There was no sign of James nor Sirius and you were thankful. You needed to whine to Remus and he of all people would be sympathetic.
“Remus.”
You whined his name before sitting down and smashing your face into his upper arm.
“Bad day?”
Remus questioned. You nodded and decided to bury yourself in his robes.
“It must have been a bad day. You haven’t done this in a long time.”
You groaned.
“I am never coming out again. I can’t show my face in the great hall or any class that Regulus Black is in ever again.”
Remus chuckled. While he was surprised to hear Regulus’ name come out of your mouth, he wasn’t about to give you a hard time like your brother would.
“Now, Y/n, you will have to come out from under my robes. I can’t go to class with you attached to me like a baby koala. People will ask questions.”
You whined again.
“Come on, Remus. It was a horribly embarrassing moment that I don’t think that I will ever live down. Just tell Sirius that I have taken up residence with you and he will have to get used to it or keep his shirt on.”
Remus patted your back.
“Now you know that Sirius isn’t the most patient of people and it will be hard to talk to Regulus if you’re attached to me. I don’t think he will be too interested if you are with me.”
“It doesn’t matter. I can never talk to him again.”
Remus looked up as Marlene and Lily walked in. Both girls stopped at the sight of you hiding inside of Remus’ robes. Remus gave them a small shrug.
“She’s had a super dinosaur-sized embarrassing moment that involves Regulus and won't come out.
“Oh god, Remus who are you talking to?”
You asked. Marlene gave Lily a smirk before both girls came to sit on the couch.
“Just Marlene and I.”
Lily softly replied before gently reaching out and pulling you away from Remus.
“Y/n, we know that you want to use Remus as a security blanket but you know that Sirius won’t be too happy with that.”
You sighed.
“It's horrible. I made the biggest fool out of myself. Regulus probably thinks that I’m an idiot. It's no wonder that he ran out of that class so fast.”
Marlene gave you a confused expression.
“Sweetie, what happened? You’re killing us.”
You stood up and ran a hand through your hair.
“He’s my partner in potions. We were talking and he asked if I was friends with Sirius. Do you want to know what my comment was? Instead of saying yes like a normal person I automatically said we aren’t dating. Like who does that?”
Lily gave you her warm motherly smile.
“What did he say?”
You groaned.
“His exact words were...I wasn’t asking. He also called me sassy.”
Remus’ comforting smile took over his face.
“Regulus doesn’t know half of that.”
Remus was pleased when you finally smiled. You took a breath before sitting back down in between Remus and Lily as Marlene took her turn to laugh.
“That really isn’t that bad, Y/n. You didn’t scream at him or step on his feet or anything...I understand your embarrassment but it's going to be okay. You kind of have to throw that disclaimer about Sirius and yourself out there. If people didn’t know the two of you better they would think that the both of you were a couple.”
“The same could be said about us too.”
Remus added. You dramatically groaned again.
“I should just date you and Sirius...it would be easier.”
“What would be easier?”
The conversation instantly stopped when James and Sirius stepped into the room. James looked between Remus and yourself.
“So back to my question...what would be easier?”
“Bashing my face into the floor.”
You commented. James grinned before wiggling his way between Lily and yourself.
“Having a bad day, sissy?”
You nodded and laid your head on his shoulder.
“Just made a fool out of myself...nothing new.”
James laughed.
“In front of who.”
Your mouth immediately dropped remembering just whom you were speaking to. James would have a cow if he knew that you were crushing on the one boy that James seemed to despise more than Severus Snape.
“Does it really matter? I’m just going to be a cat lady.”
Sirius started laughing at that one.
“I don’t get along with cats, love.”
You looked up.
“I will just live in the basement of the home that you purchase with Remus.”
Sirius chuckled before kneeling down in front of you.
“Come on now, you are a very pretty girl, Y/n. There are a lot of boys out there that would love to date you.”
“I can name one!”
Dorcas added. James’ eyes were on Dorcas at that one.
“Who? Who is he? I need to know.”
Dorcas grinned, ignoring how you were silently pleading with her to stop.
“Regulus.”
Both James and Sirius’ mouths dropped.
“Like my brother? He doesn’t like anyone but himself.”
James jumped up and shook his head. It would be a cold day in hell before he was okay with you dating Regulus. The kid was a punk...a snarky sarcastic little punk that cared way too much about his headful of curly hair.
“I’ll light him on fire before that happens. There are a lot of other girls out there. Regulus can go find another dude’s sister...not mine.”
Sirius too was laughing.
“Prongs, you really don’t have to worry about that. 1st off, Regulus doesn’t know how to talk to a woman. 2nd, no woman would put up with my mother as a mother-in-law. I prefer to call her a monster-in-law. 3rd, Regulus would just scare Y/n off with his less than sunny disposition.”
James grinned.
“I don’t think that the boy knows how to smile.”
You leaned back further against the couch forcing yourself to be quiet. As much as you wanted to defend Regulus, you knew that it would be a bad idea.
“He did smile at me today.”
Both James and Sirius turned to look at you like an overprotective mother hen.
“Why was he smiling at you?”
James snapped.
“Well, he is my potions partner.”
You commented while mentally smacking yourself for even providing that information. Sirius tilted his head to the side.
“What were the two of you talking about?”
“Potions stuff. I answered a question that he didn’t think that I would know...it wasn’t anything major so before you two form an angry lynch mob just stop.”
James did as you asked but internally made a note to himself to keep an eye on you anytime that you were near Regulus Black.
“Okay, that is understandable.”
(meanwhile)
Regulus stormed into the Slytherin common room and tossed his potions book on the couch beside Evan.
“Bad day, star shine?”
Regulus scowled at his friend as Barty sat down clearly interested in whatever was bugging Regulus.
“Not bad...I just made a fool out of myself...I don’t think that I can go back to potions again.”
“And why is that?”
Evan questioned. Regulus sat down and started playing with the golden snitch that was in his pocket.
“Y/n Potter is in my class.”
“And?”
Barty questioned, reminding Regulus of a housewife that spied on their neighbors whenever there was the slightest bit of drama.
“She’s my potions partner for the semester. It was a disaster. First I asked her if she knew how to talk then I called her sassy.”
A smile was already playing on Evan's lips. Regulus knew that he was about to be torn apart by his friends.
Can I just die already?
Regulus muttered before grabbing at the golden snitch again.
“She wasn’t mad. She didn’t even seem the least bit bothered by it. The girl actually responded with you don’t know the half of it. That just intrigued me more and my stupid ass self asked if she was friends with my brother. She immediately told me that she wasn’t dating him. It was awkward for both of us. She probably thinks that I’m a dick because I said I wasn’t asking instead of something...nicer. Ugh...she probably thinks that I am living up to my fucking reputation that I have to have with the Potters.”
Evan started laughing.
“Good one, Reg. Next time compliment her on her eyes or something.”
“Yeah, I wish that I did that this time.”
Regulus muttered as Barty hopped up.
“You should go talk to her now. What does she like?”
Regulus frowned.
“Hell if I know. There is another problem. It's something that we already discussed...her big-headed brother.”
Evan rolled his eyes.
“We can deal with Potter. He isn’t hovering over his sister all of the time anyway. The boy needs to go play quidditch or develop another hobby. The girl will never get a boyfriend with him scaring every guy away.”
“I’m not scared of him if that is what you are implying.”
Regulus added with a dark glare. Evan held a hand up.
“Did those words leave my mouth?”
Regulus quickly jumped up.
“I need to go clear my head. Later.”
Regulus’ mind was still a pretzel of emotions when dinner time came. He was mentally trying to sort out his feelings. On one hand, dating you wouldn’t be easy. His parents probably wouldn’t be happy. Granted, he could use the “she’s a pureblood” excuse but Walburga would probably accuse you of being a blood traitor. Regulus could also argue that he wanted to be with you and liked you. After Sirius left, Walburga’s scathing nature seemed to cool a bit, and whenever Regulus said that he wanted something he pretty much got it. Regulus was afraid that he would turn into one of those girl-crazy morons who lost themselves in their girlfriends. The last thing that he wanted to do was be tending to someone's every displeasure.
On the other hand, Regulus wouldn’t be so alone. With Evan dating a new girl every other week, the only company that Regulus had was Barty and that got old fast. It would also be nice to have someone to kiss and cuddle with. The physical parts of a relationship sounded nice too. Regulus played his part of “disinterested in love” so well but deep down he wanted to have a girl to love on. Evan made that part look “fun.”
Regulus glanced across the room to where you sat talking to Lily Evans and that god awful Dorcas Meadowes. Everything about you seemed perfect. Regulus sighed as he looked at your hands that were twirling your hair around your finger.
Those would fit perfectly with mine...and those lips…
Regulus sighed. Was he that pathetic that he was drooling over you from afar? It wasn’ that he hadn’t had the opportunity to find a lover. There were plenty of opportunities. He could count at least five girls that were desperate for his attention.
They aren’t Y/n.
(meanwhile)
“Why do seagulls fly over the sea? Because if they flew over the bay, they would be bagels!”
You smirked at the joke that Dorcas had just told hoping to beat one that Sirius just told.
“That’s the best that you’ve got? You are the dad joke person. Mine are actually funny.”
Sirius questioned. Dorcas picked up a dinner roll and tossed it at Sirius’ face as you sat laughing quietly.
“I thought it was amusing.”
You said, politely. Dorcas grinned.
“See Sirius, at least someone here has manners.”
Sirius shrugged and went back to his conversation with James leaving the conversation. Dorcas sighed.
“So much for that. Are you feeling any better?”
You shrugged.
“I don’t know. I am still slightly embarrassed.”
Dorcas glanced at the Slytherin table where Regulus sat with his eyes locked on you. She gave Lily a wink as Lily too noticed the boy’s eyes. Grinning, Dorcas elbowed you in the side.
“Don’t look super quick but Regulus has been staring at you for a good few minutes.”
You quickly looked up and sure enough, Regulus’ gaze was right on you.
Oh Merlin, don’t do anything stupid….don’t make a fool out of yourself...just don’t...smile...smile like a normal human.
You took a breath before smiling. Regulus watched you for a moment longer before giving you a one-sided smile that slowly spread a little wider. It wasn’t a smile like his brother would give but perfect for Regulus. You didn’t foresee him being a big “I’m going to smile all of the time” person. He seemed much more serious than that...and you were fine with it. If you could put a smile on his face...just once...you have been happy.
The cute moment was ruined when Barty Crouch Jr hit Regulus' hand that was holding his drink knocking the liquid all over his lap. Regulus’ gaze was gone as he smacked Barty in the back of the head. You knew that you had lost him at that point, he was too busy fussing at Barty who had turned around to defend himself.
“Those two would be perfect for each other.”
Your head snapped up hearing James' voice.
“Who?”
James motioned to Regulus and Barty.
“Psycho and clueless over there.”
“That’s mean, James.”
You said with a displeased expression. James, in a very sassy manner, put his hand on his chest.
“Don’t tell me that you have come to care for him.”
You rolled your eyes.
“I never said that. You can just be mean.”
James brushed you off with a grin. He wasn’t sure what was going on in your head. If you thought for one moment that he would be okay with you crushing on Regulus Black then you had another thing coming.
“Calm down, I didn’t mean to insult your little boyfriend.”
“He isn't my boyfriend.”
You snapped, a little louder before picking up your book and smacking James shoulder with it before standing up. You didn’t realize that your comment was a little louder than you planned. Thankfully, most of the great hall had cleared out but Regulus and Evan were watching with matching grins.
Blushing, you quickly turned and walked from the great hall without another word.
The next morning, you sat in Potions waiting for Regulus to show up. You were absolutely a nervous wreck. For most of the morning, you had set up a mantra of,
“I will not make a fool out of myself. I will be sweet and charming...I’ll be my nice self...I won’t be weird….don't be weird.”
You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t feel Regulus sit down beside you.
“Just so you know, my friend Evan is in love with you.”
You looked up like a deer locked in a car’s headlights. Regulus was looking over at you with the same smile from the night before.
“Lord, why?”
Regulus chuckled.
“You whacked that cocky brother of yours with a book. We have been wanting to do that since 1st year.”
You nervously laughed.
“Well, I do it about once a week. Try living with him. Do me a favor and tell Evan, no. No offense but he’s a dick.”
Regulus chuckled. On the outside, he was playing cool but on the inside, he was jumping up and down with glee over the fact that you showed no interest in Evan.
“I’ve heard that a time or two.”
“He comes off as desperate and girls really don’t like that..at least I don’t.”
You commented. Regulus looked over his shoulder for Slughorn. He silently prayed the teacher wouldn't come back for some time.
“What do you like?”
Your face blushed at the question.
“Well, I suppose someone who can handle themselves without me needing to hold their hand every second of the day. A sensitive side too isn’t bad. As much as I love a good laugh...funny can’t happen all of the time. A girl wants some romance.”
Regulus nodded and thought with a smile…
I can do all of those things!
“Why do you ask?”
You choked out. Regulus shrugged.
“Just curious. Every girl seems to be different.”
“It's not like I will find anyone anyway.”
Regulus looked up at that comment.
“Why would you say something like that?”
You shrugged.
“Because that guy doesn’t exist apparently. “
You could feel Regulus’ dark eyes burning a hole right through you. He leaned back in his chair with a haughty smile that reminded you so much of his brother.
Ugh...Sirius is the last thing that I need to be thinking about right now.
You thought as Regulus finally spoke again.
“You would be surprised what you could find out there. I know that we really don’t know each other but Slughorn is having a party in a few weeks for Halloween...would you consider going with me?”
Regulus had no idea where this sudden surge of bravery came from. Internally he was panicking. What if you said no? He would have to sit beside for the rest of the semester in utter embarrassment. Of course, you were going to say no. Gryffindors didn’t date Slytherins. It just didn’t work that way…
“I’ll go with you. We may have to keep in on the down-low because of my brother...you know how he is.”
Regulus snorted.
“Like I’m really scared.”
How this conversation had gone from awkward to completely comfortable, you had no idea...but you were fine with it. Later you would probably be questioning everything but for now, you decided to go with your newfound bravery.
“I just don’t want him to give you a hard time.”
Regulus chuckled.
“Again, I’m not really concerned but if you want to keep things a little quiet for now...you know...until we figure out how we want things to go...I’m fine with that.”
“Deal.”
The following two weeks passed quickly. Unbeknownst to James and Sirius (and the rest of your friends for that matter), you had gone on two dates with Regulus. You had to congratulate yourself on James not picking up on anything. He was so busy with quidditch and getting ready for the season to start that he hadn’t noticed much of anything going on around him.
Quidditch had taken a good chunk of Regulus’ time. The two dates that you were able to have were to study together (without prying eyes) then the next one was a date on the astronomy tower. He was apologetic about not being able to give you more time but you understood. With keeping things simple there weren't a lot of expectations that either of you had to live up to. Most of the “talking” that the two of you did was through letters quietly passed in the hallways.
You were surprised at how much the two of you actually had in common. Regulus wasn’t near as cocky as Sirius. In fact, he seemed interested in most of the things that you were….the same books, songs, everything. You were thrilled that conversations between the two of you weren’t as awkward as they were the first day.
On the second date, you were convinced that Regulus was about to kiss you but he stopped. You couldn’t help but feel let down. It would have been your first kiss and damn it, you wanted it!
Calm down...it will come.
You thought over breakfast the morning of the Slytherin vs Gryffindor game. Looking over at the Slytherin table, Regulus sat in his green sweater laughing over something that Evan was saying.
Peter sitting down beside you pulled your attention away from Regulus. You reached down into your pocket for the envelope that needed to get to Regulus.
“Peter, can you do something for me?”
Peter looked up with a big smile. As much as you hated to admit it, you knew that the boy had a crush on you. You wanted to wretch at the thought. Peter had always seemed like a weakling that needed James and Sirius for protection. He definitely wasn’t a certain Slytherin who your eyes were trained on.
“Sure, what do you need, Y/n?”
You put the envelope in his hands.
“I need you to take this over to Regulus Black right now and don’t let my brother know about it. Don’t let him see you and do not tell him about it. Got it?”
Peter looked down at the envelope that had Regulus’ name written in your neat as a pin handwriting.
“Um okay. Sure.”
Peter stood up and carefully snuck his way through the groups of students. He didn’t know what was going on or what was in the envelope but it felt heavy. Why would you be sending Regulus Black something? Peter didn’t even know that the two of you were talking. The last time that he checked, James had put his foot down about Regulus.
Regulus and Evan automatically looked up when Peter came over.
“Hi, Regulus. I’m your own personal owl from over there. Y/n…”
Regulus raised an eyebrow.
“Just shut up and give me the letter, Pettigrew.”
Regulus snatched the letter out of Peter’s hand and told him to get lost. Like he was going to open whatever it was with the little rat standing in front of him. Regulus had no love lost for Peter Pettigew. Something about the boy just oozed dishonesty and Regulus wanted no part of that.
“What is it?”
Evan finally questioned. Regulus shrugged as he tore the envelope open to find no letter. Frowning, he titled it over until a locket fell out in his hand. Turning it over your initials were engraved on the front of the piece of jewelry. Regulus looked up at you with a sly smile before putting the locket on and tucking it under his sweater.
Regulus noticed Evan with a smile on his face.
“Like hell, you two have nothing going on. She sends you a locket that she always wears with her initials on it. That girl just claimed you as her property.”
Regulus couldn’t help but smile. He knew if James figured out what you did, he would be running as Regulus screaming like a maniac...but Regulus didn’t care. He didn't care what anyone had to say at the moment.
“And I am just fine with that.”
He commented before standing up. Regulus felt better about himself today than he had in a long time.
“I have a certain Gryffindor quidditch player to humiliate.”

Happiest Season Of All
Characters: Chief Jim Hopper x Female Reader
Rating: M, 18+ ONLY
A/N: Happy Holidays! Phew, it’s been a while. Here is a kind of drabble, and also kind of a sequel to Pain In My Heart? Set the year before S1, there’s no mentions of family, no use of Y/N, and it’s just a gentle, kind of angsty little story.
This story contains broken hearts, swearing, alcohol and embarrassment.
I hope you enjoy and have a lovely week!
Summary: Broken up with just before Christmas? Fantastic. The only thing that can help is returning to your home town, old friends... and an old love.

—
23rd December 1982
‘... There'll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for toasting, and carolling out in the snow...’
You quietly hum along absent-mindedly to the cassette someone’s playing from a boombox, gazing out of the window. Usually, you’d have been annoyed but, hey, it’s the holidays.
Besides, you haven’t had much of a chance to get into the festive spirit or mood recently. With the classic Christmas song playing, the train rumbling gently and the twinkling lights in the darkness slowly growing brighter, you’re finally starting to feel it. Inhaling a breath, you lean your temple against the cold glass, your fingers lacing together in your lap as you gaze at the lights.
Hawkins, Indiana. Your hometown.
It’s been a few years since you were here for longer than a weekend but, oh, boy, this year you just need to be here. You’re retreating, you’re not too proud to admit, coming home to lick your wounds and be surrounded by all things familiar, cosy and boring.
You almost laugh. You’d left this place because it was so damn boring and now here you are, craving it. If teenage you could see you now. She’d be giving ‘that’ look which you’re told you still give to this day.
Ah, well. Time’s a bitch, baby.
The train slows as it pulls into the station and you start to gather your things while a few others around you stand and pull their bags down from the overhead racks. You pull your suitcases down as the train comes to a stop, all three of them, with their different colours and patterns. Pulling on your scarf, coat and rucksack, you haul the suitcases down the aisle as best as you can single-file, muttering under your breath as they catch every few steps against chairs.
The wheels clatter onto the concrete of the cold platform when you step down, one suitcase twisting onto its front and tangling with the others as it nearly falls from your hand. Muttering under your breath again, you right it and continue walking down the platform, two small groups of people reuniting having to part for you. Making eye contact with a grateful smile, you’re relieved you don’t recognise any of them; you’re really not in the mood for your own reunion right now.
“There she is!”
Well, just the one.
A smile spreads across your face as Karen Wheeler trots down the platform in her heeled boots, grinning and her arms open wide. The suitcases drop from your hands as you throw your arms around one another, rocking from side to side slightly.
“Oooh, hello, sweetheart,” Karen murmurs, pressing a big, wet kiss to your cheek.
“Hey, Karrie.”
Your smile lingers, and it’s the first genuine one you’ve had in a while. Karen has worn the same perfume since high school and it puts you at ease instantly. God, you just love her. You talk on the phone every other week and have done since you moved out of Hawkins; she’s been the most consistent friend in your life and you love her with all your damn heart.
“C’mon, give me those, let’s get out of here, it’s freezing...” Pulling back, she takes two of the suitcases from you before you can protest and starts striding down the platform.
You have to do a quick little jog to catch up with her, marvelling, not for the first or even fortieth time, how she can go so quickly in those heels. It’s a short walk to the exit, made shorter by Karen’s pace, and she’s parked right outside. Wonderful. Opening the trunk, you both bundle your suitcases in, tossing your rucksack on top of it, and then do a speedy little walk to the doors, yanking them open.
“Oof, coldest winter we’ve had in years,” Karen shivers dramatically in her seat as she rubs her gloved hands together before buckling her seatbelt.
Buckling your own as she eases out onto the road, you blow out a breath. “Yeah, definitely feels that way.”
“So, how was the journey?”
“Oh, the usual, long but fine. It was a lot emptier than I expected.”
“Well, we keep hearing there’s gonna be a blizzard, so some folks have come home a little earlier.”
“Well, that’s smart.”
“Yeah. Means I keep bumping into people at the store that I wish I could avoid, though, and on the street.” She snorts as she glances at you. “Ugh, I bumped into Peggy Dawnes the other day, remember her? She would not stop talking about her perfect life on her perfect farm with her perfect husband and her perfect kids and her perfect lawn. Well, there were ten bottles of wine in her cart and I know for a fact her mother doesn’t drink and her perfect husband only likes neat whisky, so, there.”
“Oh.”
You cringe internally at your short reply, but you really can’t think of what else to say. Karen glances at you again, pausing. You look over at her and find the sympathy you’ve only been able to hear during the last few weeks. She reaches over and pats your knee gently before returning her hand to the wheel.
“Oh, sweetheart... How are you doing?”
You release a breath, raising your eyebrows slightly. “Better for being here, already. But, y’know...”
She gives you a sympathetic smile as she pats your knee again. “Don’t worry, toots, like I said you can stay as long as you want, it’s no trouble at all.”
You return her smile, relieved that you find you don’t have to force it. “Thank you.”
“No worries.” Her smile widens as she tilts her head. "The kids are looking forward to having you with us, you know how much they love you. It’ll do us all some good.”
You don’t ask about Ted because you know not to.
“I can’t wait to see them, too. How have they been?”
You gaze out of the windshield as she tells you how Nancy and Mike are doing at school and how many words Holly can say now, your eyes flitting from house to house. Decorations are out in full force, as they should be, they’ve probably been up since the 1st of the month, and it makes you smile to see them, remembering how you and Karen would go from house to house when you were younger and rate them out of 10 candy canes.
Ah, the simple life.
She’s still chatting about Mike and his friends when she turns down onto their long drive. It’s lined with various Christmas lawn ornaments, most lit up. Lights line the inside of some of the many windows of the house, too, making it look gorgeous and cosy and warm. A curtain is yanked back suddenly and Mike’s face appears, grinning. He waves frantically and you smile instantly, waving back with your eyebrows raised.
My favourite, funny little kid.
He’s already at the wide open door when Karen parks, still grinning. Unbuckling your seatbelt, you open the door and step out only to have him nearly slam into you before you can straighten, hugging you tightly.
“You’re here!”
You laugh, wrapping your arms around him just as fiercely. “Hey, buddy. You okay?”
“Yeah. C’mon, I wanna show you this book I got...” He’s already out of your arms and waving you towards the door, which Karen is muttering about the heat being let out of.
Chuckling to yourself, you help her with your suitcases and rucksack, feeling vastly different to how you did ten minutes ago; they never fail to raise your spirits. Nancy greets you as you enter, smiling widely and also ready for a hug. You give it gladly and just as fiercely as you had with Mike, asking her how she is. She shrugs and just says “Fine,” with a smile as you remove your shoes and coat, and you marvel at how she’d once been as talkative as Mike when she was younger. You hear the boy himself calling from the basement, telling you he can’t currently find the book but it’s around here someone and you’re gonna love it! You follow Karen up the stairs to the guest room with a wide smile, calling back your thanks to him.
Passing walls lined with family photographs, it’s a short walk down the hall to the room you’ll be staying in for... well, who knows. Karen opens the door with a trilled, “Ta-da!” and you laugh as you take in the sight before you. It’s completely decked out in Christmas decorations; tinsel on every bit of furniture, snow-globes on the window sill, a polar bear stuffed toy on the bed, fairy-lights around the headboard. You’d roll your eyes at the excessiveness of it if it wasn’t so damn sweet.
“Wow, it’s like Santa’s Grotto in here...”
“Eh, close enough, I wanted fake snow on the ground but Ted vetoed that idea pretty quick.”
You snort, hauling the suitcase you’re carrying onto the bench at the end of the bed and dropping your rucksack onto it before sitting on the bed, your fingers running over the blanket Karen’s mother had crocheted. Nancy lingers in the doorway, and after leaning your other suitcases against a chest of drawers, Karen turns to her, making a shooing gesture.
“All right, go on, Nance, us hot young things need to get ready.”
“Ugh, Mom...” Nancy just about manages to stop herself from rolling her eyes as she turns away and heads back down the hall while you stare at Karen.
“Uh... Ready for what? Bed?”
“No,” Karen laughs, and you suddenly notice she’s going through your suitcase on the bench, rifling through and pulling various items out. “We’re going out, to the bar.”
“The bar?”
“Yes, the bar.”
You’re still staring at her. “Where everyone we know goes?”
Karen shrugs, looking at you like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Yeah, ‘cause it’s still the only good bar in Hawkins.”
“I thought you wanted to avoid everyone.”
“Eh, yeah, but... y’know, only good bar in Hawkins. And...” Oh, no, she’s looking sheepish, her head bowing slightly as she glances from you to some of your clothes she’s pulled out. “... Uh, we’re kinda having a party here tomorrow, anyway, so...”
“What?”
Her eyebrows shoot up, her hands raising. “It just kinda happened. It’s been years since we’ve had one and Ted and I were talking about it and then I saw Mary-Lou at Mike’s school and I just happened to mention it and she got so excited and then I got excited and it just, it suddenly happened.”
Your lips press together as you exhale a short breath. “Well, they were fun...”
“Yeah, they were, weren’t they?” Karen sits beside you with a nostalgic sigh, shaking her head. “We had some of the best times of our lives at ‘em.”
“Yeah... I remember the one after you gave birth to Nancy, I thought I was gonna have to take you to the hospital.”
“Ha! Thank God my Mom came over to look after her. What about the one where you set fire to the tree?”
“Oh, please don’t remind me, and that wasn’t actually my fault, you know,”
“Ha, yeah, sure, that was great...”
You both sigh together, a smile finding its way onto your lips at all the memories that come flooding back. They had been fun. You hadn’t been able to attend every one over the years but the ones you had had been so great they’d almost made you want to stay in Hawkins. Maybe... Maybe a return to a beloved tradition is exactly what you need.
Turning your head to her, you arch an eyebrow. “You didn’t think to tell me it was happening, though?”
Karen shrugs as she smiles. “I didn’t want you to talk yourself out of enjoying it before it had even happened. Same as tonight.”
“Oh, Karrie...” You huff out a breath. “... You know me too well, it’s so annoying. Ugh, I was so looking forward to just curling up on the couch, drinking and watching some of the classics.”
“I know.” She pats your knee, nudging her shoulder against yours. “And we’re gonna do that the day after Christmas, and every day that you want to while you’re here. But tonight, we’re gonna get fancy and go out and get a little bit drunk. It’s Christmas, c’moooon.”
You just can’t help but smile. “All right. All right! Fine. How long have I got?”
“An hour.”
“What—”
She’s already on her feet, pointing at you as she heads to the door. “Take a shower while I cook us and the kids something up, and then we’ll get ready. okay?”
You know you have absolutely no choice in the matter. “Okay, fine.”
“Great!” she beams, reaching for the door handle to close it behind herself. She pauses, though, resting her weight on one foot as she clears her throat. “Oh, and uh... he’s probably gonna be there.”
You don’t have to ask who she’s referring to.
Staring at her, you manage to keep your features expressionless. “Oh. Really?”
“Yeah.” She’s watching you carefully, teeth grazing over her lower lip. “He is nearly every night, apparently, according to Marian.”
Raising your eyebrows slightly, you smile. “Well... maybe he won’t be.”
“Yeah, maybe he won’t be...” She’s still watching you, a gentle smile pulling at her lips. “Shower, toots.”
“Okay, okay...” You wave your hand as she pulls the door closed, hearing her move down the hallway.
The moment you hear her heading down the stairs, you release a long breath, lying back on the bed.
Oh, shit...
Well.
You stare at the ceiling as the realisation suddenly dawns on you.
I might see Jim Hopper tonight.
James Hopper. Jim. Hopper. Hop. Chief, also now, not that you’ve ever been around to call him that.
You’d been friends since you were kids, best friends actually, at one point closer than you and Karen had been, and then feelings had developed when you'd become teenagers and then you’d taken the leap and had started dating and then...
You’d broken up.
And you’d been the one to initiate it.
And you’d done that because, well... It was because of a lot of little things. Mainly, though, you hadn’t known what route you wanted to take, college or work, you hadn’t even known what you wanted to do, but you knew you wanted to get out of Hawkins. And Hop... hadn’t known what the hell he wanted to do either, but he hadn’t even thought about it. He’d spoken once or twice about joining the military, or just starting a job, too. College hadn’t even crossed his mind. The conversation had come up and, well, it hadn’t ended well.
In fact, when it ended, that has been the last time you’ve spoken to him. As you’ve returned home over the years you’ve heard he did join the military, fought in Vietnam, came home, married, and lived in New York the same time you had. You’d been heartbroken to hear from Karen that his daughter had died, and he’d divorced and moved back home.
Now, he’s Chief of Hawkins Police and, well, you’d love to avoid seeing him at all costs. There can come a time when, having not seen someone in decades, you can’t even have a casual conversation because all both parties are doing is screaming in their heads.
Well. Like you’d said yourself. He might not be there.
Hey, as Chief of Police this is probably a very busy time of year and he’ll be off doing something.
It’s gonna be fine.
Absolutely fine.
After showering, you throw on some clean, comfy clothes and head downstairs to eat with Karen and the kids.
Holly sits at the table in her highchair, silent as ever, well, being two years old she only knows a handful of words, but she just stares at you as she has done since she was a baby. Mike talks non-stop about school and his friends while Nancy chimes in every now and then to talk about her own friends, saying names of people in her class that you take a moment or two to remember, and to mutter insults at him while he mutters them back.
Karen half-heartedly tells them to stop in between telling you what she might wear, and you somehow manage to keep up with all conversations. Frankly, it’s also quite nice after being surrounded by mostly silence for the last few weeks.
Whipping your plate away from you seconds after you finish, Karen is up and striding to the kitchen, calling over her shoulder.
“C’mon! Let’s get sexy!”
Your lips twitch as Mike and Nancy groan, the only thing they can agree on right now being that their Mom is a complete and utter embarrassment.
She practically shoves you up the stairs, trying to get you to move faster, and from then on the next 30 minutes feels like a whirlwind. She tries on six outfits before settling on her usual favourite, and changes in your room while you rifle through what you’ve brought. Luckily, even though you can’t really remember packing, you’ve brought some of your own favourites, and, after scrambling to find some shoes to go with them, she helps you decide on an old classic.
Gazing at you, her hands on her hips, she beams with delight.
“Well, look at you, huh! Fancy lady!”
You give a twirl as she whoops, and then her arm is looping through yours and she’s practically dragging you towards the door.
“Bye, guys, we’ll be back late!” she calls out, though no one answers, too busy doing their own thing.
You haven’t seen any sign of Ted and, once again, you know not to ask.
“Late? How late is late?” you ask with an arched eyebrow as she hurries you down the stairs.
“Oh, come on, not that late, we’re not gonna get wasted, we’re not teenagers anymore.”
—
“... God, I hate it...”
The stall door slams against the cubicle wall as you pull it open a little more forcefully than you had intended. Holding it for a moment, you exhale a short breath before moving towards the sinks, only swaying a little. Washing your hands, you glance up at Karen, watching her try to reapply her lipstick as neatly as possible.
“And did you hear Julian is engaged? And Andrea has a new boyfriend? Is it me or is everybody getting into a relationship?”
She snorts, rubbing her lips together. “It’s that time of year, folks hate being lonely at Christmas.”
You scoff, turning the tap off and drying your hands. “Just sleep with people, then, doesn’t mean you have to get into a relationship and hog someone all to yourself.”
She laughs, slipping her lipstick back into her bag before turning to you, a hand on her hip. “Oh, babe... C’mon, let’s find you someone to have meaningless sex with it.”
“Okay.”
The bar has been heaving from the moment you’d arrived. It usually is, but tonight the place is rammed, perhaps because of the time of year, but maybe more because, it turns out, there’s an offer on drinks, it being the holiday season and all, and happy hour has lasted more than one hour. More than two. It’s nearing three now.
Each sip has helped you relax, even as Karen gasps and points out old high school classmates, filling you in on every detail of their lives she’s learned. So far, incredibly gladly, she’s not pointed out a certain Chief.
Returning to your table, which a guy you don’t recognise has been guarding for you, as in literally guarding, he has his hands behind his back and is saying, “Nah, move along, this ain’t free...” to anyone who looks like they’re going to swoop in. At spotting you both, he grins and holds his arms out wide, gesturing at the table.
“All free for you, m’ladies.”
You’re unable to stop a smile because there’s something so weirdly charming about this absolute goofball of a man. He takes a seat beside Karen as you sit, the two of them having been exchanging small talk that verged on flirting. Heck, it was flirting. Sipping from your drink as you watch them, you feel a small, familiar twist in your stomach.
Karen is more like her teenage self when she’s with you, but when you see her with Ted, no longer Teddy as he had been in high school, and the kids, she’s Karen the mom, like she’s caged her personality in and doesn’t quite know how to bring the two parts of herself together. When she’d come to visit you once last year, you’d gone out to a bar and you’d watched her flirt with a couple of the men there. You’d thought it was harmless at first, just a bit of fun for her, she’s a charismatic lady, but then something had changed and, as a guy had held her hand, stroking it, and she hadn’t pulled away, you’d felt a twist in your stomach.
She’s gonna have an affair one day.
The thought had come to you so suddenly and so sharply that you’d shoved it away with all your might, horrified with yourself. No, Karen wouldn’t do that... Would she? Since then, you’d become more and more unsure. You’ve stopped asking about Ted when you talk because she’d just sigh heavily and spend the next ten minutes pointing out every flaw he has, how the romance has gone, how she’s tried and nothing happens. You know she’s unhappy, but you just can’t see her doing it. You hope not, anyway.
Looking away from them, you watch a few people dancing, Christmas music flowing out of the speakers above.
Karen laughs at something the guy says, and in the corner of your eye you see her place a hand on his arm.
“Oh, that’s too funny! You’re really funny... Sorry, what’s your name again?”
The man is unfazed, still grinning. “Callahan. Phil Callahan.”
He says it with such an atrocious Sean Connery accent, making Karen burst out laughing again, and it makes you smile, too.
“Oh, big James Bond fan, huh?” she says, her elbow on the table, chin in her hand.
“Oh, yeah, it’s why I became a cop.”
Your gaze darts to him. “You’re a cop?”
He raises his hands as he laughs. “Yeah, but, hey, you go on and drink as much as you want, I’m off duty now.”
Karen laughs and you make yourself join in, but your heart has started to beat a little faster.
Oh, stop it, he’s not here.
You take a quick sip of your drink again to cover the fact you aren’t laughing anymore, and then Callahan looks up, his grin widening somehow as he waves his hand frantically.
“Hey, boss, over here!”
Boss?
Boss.
The entire room seems to slow down as you turn your head and see a man, who’s stopped for a moment to shake hands with someone, with brown hair and a neatly clipped beard, wearing a brown leather jacket, plaid shirt and jeans, his eyebrows raised—
Oh, God.
Oh, shit.
Oh fucking Lord in the manger.
Callahan is slapping his hand against the vacant seat at the table, that happens to be close to you, practically shouting, “Hop’, here, saved ya a seat!”
You swiftly turn back around, staring at Karen. She’s frozen, staring at you, and for the next three seconds you somehow communicate an entire conversation with just your eyebrows and eyes.
Both of you seem to agree on fuuuuuuck.
You can’t just get up and leave, that would be the most obvious thing in the entire world. What if he doesn’t recognise you? Yeah, maybe you’ll be so incredibly fucking lucky and it’ll be a Christmas miracle and you’ll somehow have just disappeared from his memory.
Swallowing hard as you hear him move past a group behind you with an “Excuse me,” you rest your hands on the table, gripping them together.
“Hey, Callahan, where’s everybody else?”
Oh, his voice has changed. It’s deeper, rougher.
“Oh, well, Powell said he and his wife are gonna come later when he finishes his shift, and Jones, Davids and Williamson are over there, they’ve been waitin’ to get a drink for ages.” Callahan laughs delightedly, and Karen joins in, giving a slightly nervous one.
It draws Hopper’s attention and you don’t dare look up to see his expression but there’s a note of surprise in his tone.
“Karen, hey, you doin’ okay?”
“Yes, thank you.” And then she panics. “We’re just having a night out.” And then she panics more when she realises what she’s said, and that she’s gestured at you, her eyes as wide as her now somewhat manic smile.
Oh. God.
Lifting your head, you automatically smile, your features frozen.
“Hi.”
Hi.
He looks from Karen to you, and you’re suddenly subject to the full force of Jim Hopper’s gaze for the first time in decades.
Oh. God.
You can’t help it; the memories of the last time you saw him flood your mind.
“Hop’, are you even listening to me?”
He swiftly puts down the ball of rubberbands he’d been picking at on your desk, his eyebrows raised as he looks to you.
“Yeah, yeah, course I am.”
Your own eyebrows rise even higher, your hands lifted. “What, then?”
He tilts his head slightly, grazing his teeth over his lower lip. “’What’, what?”
“You weren’t fucking listening—”
“No, I was,” he quickly says at your weary sigh, leaning forward in the chair and resting his elbows on his knees, an easy smile pulling at his lips. “C’mon, just repeat the last part.”
You’d once found this all charming and endearing.
Your hands going to your waist, you exhale another breath before folding your arms, managing to calm yourself.
“What are you gonna do after school?”
Hop’ shrugs, leaning back again. “I don’t know. What are you gonna do?”
It was just the answer you’d feared, and expected. Licking your lips, you glance down at the carpet before steeling yourself and meeting his gaze again.
You can do this.
“I’m thinking of moving.”
He nods, his smile returning. “Okay, where?”
“I don’t know. New York, maybe. There’s jobs there and I have a friend there, I could stay with her for a bit.”
“Or we could get a place together.”
You stare at him, feeling your stomach twist.
“So... you’re, you’re just gonna follow me where I go.”
“Yeah.” His brow dips slightly, the smile still there, though it’s hesitant. “Aren’t girlfriends supposed to be happy when their boyfriends say that?”
“Yeah, but... What do you want to do?”
Hop’ shrugs again. “I don’t know. I know I wanna be with you, though.”
You’d once have quietly swooned at that and given him a fond smile. Now, though... You want more.
“Hop’, I don’t... I don’t wanna be one of those high school couples that just sticks together because they’re together. I want you to actually want this.”
He’s frowning again, confusion starting to set in. “I do.”
You say it quietly. “I don’t think you do.”
He stares at you, all traces of his smile gone. Then, he scoffs, leaning back in his chair a little more as he folds his arms.
“So now you’re tellin’ me what I do and don’t feel?”
“No, I just, I want you to have some drive, some ambition, not just go along with what I say and do.”
“I go along with it because it’s what I want.”
You can feel tears stinging at your eyes but your mind has also been made up.
“I don’t think it is, I just think it’s easy and safe for you.”
“Stop tellin’ me what I’m feelin’!”
His voice raising makes yours, too.
“Am I wrong?”
He looks at you like he has no idea who you are, and for some reason that really pisses you off because you don’t really recognise him anymore, either.
“Why are you pushing me away?!”
“I’m not, I—”
“Where has all this come from, then?!”
“I don’t know if I want this!”
Silence falls.
You swallow thickly as he stares at you, your voice cracking slightly.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but... y’know, Karrie and Teddy, they... I look at them and at Joyce and Lonnie and they’re so happy, they know what they want, and they can’t wait to get married and settled down, here, but...”
“You don’t want that,” he finishes for you, quietly.
You speak after a moment, your tone matching his. “I don’t.”
“You don’t want me.”
That sends a knife through your heart because honestly? You have no idea.
Shaking your head, you close your eyes for a moment. “No, yes, I... I don’t know. I care so much about you, but... I just think we’re on different paths.”
His gaze drops as your words linger in the air. Clearing his throat, he glances up at you again.
“What if we just take a break, for a bit. Or I can come up and visit you, in New York.”
He’s just a boy, you suddenly think, your heart breaking.
Biting at your lower lip to stop it from trembling, you give a small shrug. “I think that wouldn’t be fair on us both.”
He nods slowly, his jaw moving, and you’ve never seen him this distant. Raising his eyebrows slightly, he stands.
“Seems you already had this all figured out.”
“No, no, I didn’t, I just don’t want to be unfair to you—”
“Could I have said anything that would have changed your mind?” His quiet words silence you, and you have to stifle a sob.
“... No.”
Hop gazes at you, and after several moments he nods. “Good luck with everything.”
You’d burst into tears the moment he’d left your room. The front door had slammed shut and as you’d sat on your bed and cried and cried you’d heard his car door slam, too. You’d cried for days, going between telling yourself you’d made a huge mistake, and then that you’d done what was best, that he didn’t appreciate you like he used to and it wasn’t your job to fix him and coach him through life and that... yeah, you’d fallen out of love with him.
You hadn’t just lost a boyfriend that day, though, you’d also lost your best friend.
You loved Karen but there was just something different about Hop’, something that made you feel safe and like you could tell him anything and he wouldn’t judge. As you’d moved away and the months had gone on, several triumphs and bad days had happened, and all you’d wanted to do was just pick up the phone to call him and tell him. You’d stopped yourself every time.
Then, at some unremarkable point, you’d just stopped getting that urge, and life had moved on.
Oh, it certainly had moved on.
You stare at him, trying to look without looking. You can still see the face of the teenager you once knew, though with the beard and the lines at the corners of his eyes he’s very much a man now.
God, is he a man.
He was tall when you’d known him, but is he taller now, somehow? Had he had another growth spurt in his twenties? His hands are huge, too, and he’d been confident back then but it had come from cockiness whereas now he just seems quietly so, more sure of himself.
And you have absolutely no idea what he’s thinking. He’s staring at you so expressionlessly that you believe for a moment or two he actually has forgotten you.
Then, he speaks
“Hey. Been a long time.”
Hey. Been. A. Long. Time.
Said like you didn’t once whisper “I love you” to each other and share every single secret you’d ever had.
Then again, all you’d been able to muster up was a ‘Hi’.
You’re still smiling and you don’t know how to stop.
“Yeah, it has.”
“How are you?”
“Fine, thank you, you?”
“Yeah, good. You home for the holidays?”
“Yep.”
He runs his fingers over his mouth as he nods, and oh my God, he’s attractive. Is he, or is it the alcohol?
Wanting to banish the thoughts from your mind and distract yourself, you quickly continue.
“I’m staying with Karen.”
“That’s nice.” It’s said absolutely expressionlessly. “Just ‘till the new year?”
“Uhm, indefinitely. I’m, I’m working, uh, going through, uh, I’m moving, at the moment.”
“Okay. Well, I hope it goes okay.”
Oh my God, he’s winding down the conversation. He’s gonna go.
And you’re still smiling.
“Thank you.”
Nodding, he glances at Callahan. “I’m gonna go and check in with the others, see how they are.”
Callahan just nods once, his gaze flicking from you to Hopper and back again with utter confusion.
Rising, Hopper glances from Karen to you.
“See you around.”
“Yeah, bye, happy holidays,” you answer, Karen possibly unable to speak.
His lips move slightly, possibly into a faint smile. “Yeah, to you, too.”
And then he walks away, heading for the bar. Staring at where he’d just been sat, a slightly strangled sound releases from the back of your throat.
“Oh my God, oh my God...”
Looking to Karen, a whole range of emotions are flashing across her face as she tries to find the most comforting one. She fails.
“Oh, babe, oh God, that was horrible.”
“I know, I just, I forgot how to have a conversation, my voice got so high.”
“It did, I don’t know why you did that.”
“Neither do I, oh my God...” Putting your head in your hands, you then quickly lift it after a moment, pressing your lips together as you raise your hands. “Whatever. It’s fine. Let’s just, please, move past it. It’s over, I got it out the way, it was civilised, it’s done.”
“You’re right, you’re so right, please let’s forget it. Let’s drink.”
“Yes, please.”
You tap your glass against Karen’s as she raises it, and both take a long drink.
Oh, God.
That had been... so uneventful you don’t quite know what to do with yourself. In all the times you’d thought about how this exact moment might go, you’d never thought it would be uneventful. You’d imagined yelling, or crying, sometimes even laughing, but this...
Well. It was really like it had meant nothing at all.
You don’t know why it’s getting to you so much. You broke up with him. Of course he’d have moved on and left it all behind, God, you have as well. You’ve both lived your lives, gone through so many things and come out the other side and... A break up when you were teenagers kind of pales in comparison.
Yeah. It’s all fine. In fact, you know what, you’re relieved. It’s mature. It’s done. That’s it. You don’t have to be best friends with him again, for fuck’s sake.
Lowering your drink, you don’t realise your internal monologue has played out on your face, eyes widening and narrowing. Looking up, you find Karen and Callahan staring at you.
Licking your lips, you shrug. “It’s fine. It’s fine. Who wants another drink?”
You’re out of your seat and heading to the bar before they can respond. Karen sits back in her chair as she blinks, watching you stride away.
“Can someone just please tell me what’s going on?” Callahan bursts out, his hands raised.
“Oh, God, sweetie...” Karen sighs, reaching for her drink again. “... I have no fucking clue.”

24th December 1982
“Ughhh... Oh, God...”
It’s not your own groaning that wakes you, but that of someone else.
Cracking open an eye, you stare up at the ceiling as the groaning continues.
Uh, my mouth is so dry...
Licking your lips, you turn your head and find Karen on the other side of the bed, her hair bedraggled and spilling across the pillow, mascara halfway down her face, lipstick smeared. Turning her own head, she looks at you and groans again.
“Am I alive?”
“I think so,” you rasp, and she groans mournfully.
“Ughhhh... I don’t even remember how we got home...”
Closing your eyes, you scratch at your forehead, trying to remember yourself.
You’d gone to the bar, drank, drank a lot, maybe danced a little, spoken with your old classmate, Jessica? Justine? and then... Oh, what was his name again...
“Callahan,” you murmur, your throat aching. “Callahan brought us home.”
“Oh, yeah... Didn’t we ask him to turn on his lights?”
Your lips twitch as you recall how you’d both screamed with joy and whooped and cheered as he’d turned on the lights, waving your arms from side to side.
You snort and she glances at you. A laugh escapes you as you think about the absurdity of it all, and then she’s laughing, too, her cackle loud and delighted.
“Oh my God... Ugh, that was fun...” she sighs, her smile lingering.
“Yeah...” you murmur, stretching your legs out.
“We’ll have fun tonight, too.” She pats your hand, exhaling a breath. “If we just... If we just sleep ‘till noon, and then we can start preparing the house... Maybe even two, it won’t take long...”
You hum, closing your eyes, and, yeah, sleeping a little longer does sound like a good idea... Besides, when you’re unconscious, you don’t have to think about a certain embarrassing event that happened...
Perfect.
You focus on the softness of the bed as Karen snores lightly beside you, already fast asleep... Yeah... the joy of unconsciousness...
—
“... Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock... Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring... Snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun... Now the jingle hop has begun...”
Adjusting a plate on the table, you straighten and blow out a breath, trying to stifle a yawn.
I really can’t handle a night out anymore.
Brushing your hands together, you turn, surveying the party that’s in full-swing. It’s only a couple of hours in but it’s already a success. People are talking, laughing, dancing, singing, eating, drinking, having a merry old time in general really. You feel more proud than you would have thought as your gaze drifts across the room.
You’d had to shake Karen awake at half one, both of you practically dehydrated and feeling not so fresh. After drinking copious amounts of water, showering, changing and finally eating, realising you were both starving, you’d flown around the house together, tidying, cleaning, cooking up food, putting drinks out and decorating. It had been another whirlwind but a wonderful whirlwind. You’d had so much fun, and hadn’t thought once about The Incident. An hour before the party was due to start, you and Karen had gotten ready, selecting slightly more festive outfits than the ones you’d worn last night.
Now, she’s in the kitchen, laughing at something a neighbour is saying, while Mike and Nancy talk in separate corners with some of their friends who have turned up, and Ted, who’d you’d finally bumped in to and greeted, was sat in his armchair, talking with a guy who looked slightly desperate to get away.
The doorbell chimes and you catch Karen’s eye, waving your hand and mouthing, “I’ll get it,”, as you’ve done so for the last few chimes.
You have to carefully push your way past people on the way to the foyer, which is surprisingly empty. Moving to the door, you grip the handle and pull it open, a smile already on your lips.
“Hey—”
You cut yourself off, pausing as you stare up at the man.
Hopper stares back at you, shoulders slightly hunched from the cold, hands in his pockets.
"Hi,” he says, glancing behind you briefly.
"Hey,” you repeat, your heart pounding.
... Whaaaaaat is he doing here?
As if he’s somehow heard your thought, he clears his throat and raises his eyebrows a little. “Uh, Callahan said we were invited.”
Oh, fuck, yes, you’d forgotten Karen had insisted he come, and you, jokingly, had said, ‘Hey, why not invite Hopper, too?’
Haha. Ha. What a hilarious joke. What a hilarious little joke that Callahan clearly hadn’t taken as a joke so it is now real.
Just as you realise you haven’t answered him, he clears his throat again. “Should I—”
“Oh, no, God, sorry, come in.” Holding the door open, you step back, gesturing with your other hand into the foyer.
He steps in, glancing at the party beyond before he turns to you as you close the door, looking up at him.
You’re staring again.
Swallowing, you point at the stairs. “Uh, coats are up here, I’ll show you.”
Before he can answer, you stride to the steps and ascend, gripping the bannister.
Ooh... Ooh, what’s happening... What am I doing...
You’ve shown the last few people up to where the coats are being kept, just in case you can’t see them out, but this is... This is rather intimate.
You hear him behind you, following you up, and you make yourself exhale a long breath to try and calm your heart.
Be an adult.
The coats are being kept where they usually would at a Wheeler party; the guest room, AKA your room. It’s one of the reasons you’ve been basically escorting people up to it, not wanting them to linger in there or have a stranger possibly go through your things.
Pushing the door open, you step in to the dimly lit room and gesture at the bed that’s piled high with coats, scarves and jackets.
“Just here, leave it anywhere.”
He stands in the doorway, hands back in his pockets.
“I’m actually not stayin’ long, I’ve got a shift soon.”
Your hands drop. “Oh. Okay...” You can’t stop a slight frown from crossing your features. “Why did you come up, then?”
Hopper meets your gaze, his jaw moving minutely. “‘cause I want to talk to you.”
“Oh.”
Oh.
You’re sweating, your fingers flexing by your side.
Okay, here we go, he’s gonna yell at me and tell me everything he’s been holding back, here we go...
Shifting his stance, he leans against the doorframe, his gaze holding yours. “Listen, last night, I... I’m sorry I left so abruptly. That wasn’t, uh... polite of me.”
... Well, that’s not what you’d expected.
Your lips parted, you gaze at him. “Uh, no, no, no, it’s fine, I, I completely get it. It’s, uhm...” You pause, swallowing. Then, you smile faintly, and just say it, your voice dropping slightly. “... It’s weird, isn’t it.”
“Yeah. Fuck, yeah, it is.” He lets out a laugh, and for some reason the sound of it warms you. “I was a little taken aback when I saw you, I was totally unprepared.”
“Oh, me, too.” You exhale a laugh, your smile easing. “I wanted to say so many things but my brain wasn’t quite connected to my mouth.” You laugh again, though it’s more nervous this time, because you know if you don’t say it now, you never will. Your tongue gliding across your lips, you raise your hands a little. “Look, Hop, I...” Fuck, it feels strange saying his name again. “... I’m sorry for how things ended between us.”
Hopper’s already shaking his head before you’ve finished, a slight dip to his brow. “Don’t be. I think it was the kick up the ass I needed, and I knew you were right. Took me a little while to admit that, but, yeah.”
“Still, I could have given us a chance—”
“We were kids,” he cuts you off gently with a light smile, shrugging. “Neither of us knew what we were doin’ or how to handle somethin’ like that.”
You snort. “I still don’t.”
A corner of his mouth lifts a little higher. “Yeah, me, too.” Grazing his teeth over his lower lip, you watch him as he seems to consider something, your cheeks heating slightly at his intense gaze. “... Stop me if I’m, uh, treadin’ where I shouldn’t, but, and I’m just connectin’ the dots here, you said you’re stayin’ in Hawkins indefinitely, is that because something similar has happened?”
You give a faint smile, pointing a finger at him as you raise your eyebrows. “Yeah, you got me. I, uhm...” Here we go... “... I broke up with my fiancé. Or, he broke up with me, actually.” Your smile widens a little more. “Good connecting, you must be a great Chief.”
“Well, I do my best.” He looks sympathetic in a way that is mercifully not pitying. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Thanks. I feel like shit every day, but, it was for the best. He was an asshole. I just didn’t want to see it.”
“How come he did the breaking up, then?”
You fold your arms, exhaling a breath. “He met someone else. Didn’t even bother to hide it or save my feelings. Just told me.”
“That sucks.”
“Yeah, it really did.”
“Still,” he nods his head at you, “you seem much better off.”
You feel a little proud at that, because, actually, you feel like a mess. “Thanks. Karen’s letting me stay here until I figure out what I wanna do. I don’t even know if I like my job anymore or if it’s just everything that’s going on making me feel like I hate it, or maybe I have hated it for a while and I just don’t want to admit that to myself either.” You catch yourself from continuing, releasing a sheepish laugh. “I’m sorry, I’m just rambling on now, you can go back down—”
“Nah, it’s okay, I like listenin’ to you.”
He says it so sincerely, holding your gaze, that you don’t quite know what to do. Biting at your lower lip briefly, you look away for a few moments, your fingers twisting together.
“Well... Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
You can hear the smile in his tone, so you look up, and God...
You’ve missed that smile.
His expression is so soft, too, so gentle and...
No, no, no, no... No, it’s just because you’re sad and it’s Christmas and—
Clearing his throat, he leans an arm against the chest of drawers beside the door.
“Y’know, I... I’ve thought about you over the years, thought about reachin’ out. I heard from someone years ago that you were in New York and I... I told myself I was gonna look you up but... I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Didn’t know if you’d even want to see me.”
A smile pulls at your lips, your chest aching slightly. “I think I would have.” Biting at your lower lip again, you take a breath. “... I’ve thought about you, too. Sometimes I think about if I made the biggest mistake of my life in leaving you.”
He blinks, before quickly smiling, shaking his head. “Like I said, we were just kids. We didn’t know any better.”
“I know.”
You’re gazing at each other again, quietly.
Don’t.
Clearing your throat, you make yourself smile. “I’m so sorry, I should have offered you a drink, I—”
“Would you like to go out for a drink?” he asks, so swiftly that it’s as if he’d been waiting to. “So we can catch up properly?”
Staring at him, you feel something quietly ignite within you. He looks somewhat nervous, and for some reason it calms you instantly.
A softer smile returning to your lips, you nod. “I’d like that.”
One corner of his mouth lifts a little higher than the other as he straightens, his hands falling to his sides. “Good. Okay. I’ll call. I gotta head out now, sorry, I just wanted to drop by before my shift.”
He wanted to drop by... to see me.
Trying to contain your smile, you move towards him, heading for the door. “It’s okay, I’ll walk you out.”
“Thanks.”
You head down the hallway and stairs in silence, your heart fluttering wildly. You’re suddenly very aware of your body, and of his right behind you, and oh my God, when was the last time I felt this way?
Pulling the door open, you hold it for him as you smile.
“Well, I hope your shift goes okay.”
“Thanks.”
He’s stood before you, a hand in his pocket, and he doesn’t move.
Then, his other hand moves to rest on your arm gently as he lowers his head and presses a soft kiss to your cheek.
Oh, fuck.
His lips brushing against your skin makes your heart stop and every inch of your skin warm. It’s brief, far too brief, and when he pulls his head back to look at you, you desperately hope you don’t look as flustered as you feel.
Giving a slightly breathless smile, you hold his gaze. “Merry Christmas, Hop’.”
The smile he gives in return has you feeling a way you know you haven’t in years.
“Merry Christmas, sweetheart.”

It had been a few hours since we arrived at the Umbrella mansion and my head was finally starting to clear. Klaus and I went down to some kitchen in the basement after the ashes debacle upstairs. The “door” to this room was just a large hole in the wall. It was all stone with a long, wooden table in the middle of the room.
Klaus was laid out on the table, smoking another cigarette. I sat in a chair at the head, my fingers in his hair, just mindlessly playing with it with my head down. So tired. My head was starting to throb.
“Hey, can you hear that? BD?”
“I’m getting a migraine, I can hear everything. I can hear you blink.”
“No, no, it’s…” he trails off, lifting himself off the table.
Running just as fast as we can
Klaus takes my hands and drags me out of the chair. I groan, but my smile gives me away.
Holding on to one another's hand
We sing along to the lyrics together. He purposefully sings off-key to make me laugh.
Trying to get away into the night
We’re holding the urn between us as we spin around. I set it on the table and we join hands, going back and forth from each other. The lyrics are barely intelligible through our laughing.
And then you put your arms around me
Separating, we start twisting and spinning around the table. At this moment, it was just us, the last 6 months were gone and everything was okay now.
And we tumble to the ground and then you say
Klaus steps up onto the table and I follow at the opposite end. We meet in the middle and I spin him around. His back is against me and we sway together.
I think we're alone now
He spins to face me and our faces are close, I can feel his breath. Our eyes meet and his expression goes dour.
“BD, are you…high?” he asks shakily.
“I-”
A loud rumbling breaks us apart. Reginald's urn starts sliding across the table and Klaus dives for it. Knives fly across the room and stick into the wall.
We’re suddenly outside with the other 4 siblings. They were all staring up at a blue ball of light. It was so loud I could feel it pounding in my ears. Luther and Diego were yelling.
Klaus tries to spray the thing with a fire extinguisher, when it doesn't work he just throws it in. Diego pulls him back, but I can't hear what any of them are saying. I had my hands held so tightly over my ears it felt like my skull was going to cave in.
I feel arms around me and skin against my cheek. Klaus had come back to me and I was wrapped in his coat. Our hearts were pounding out of our chests, almost meeting in the middle where we were pressed together.
The vision of an old man screaming appears in the light and he starts…morphing, changing, and falling forward. After a few more seconds of shifting, the man falls from the…” portal”? As suddenly as it appeared, the light and deafening sound are gone, and all we're left with is the man- now boy lying on the ground.
I release my hands from my ears in time to hear Klaus, “Does anyone else see little Number Five or is that just me?”
“Shit.”
☂
When we all made it back inside, Five told me that he didn't “have time for civilians”. Klaus tried to stand up for me, but I stopped him. I wasn't sure if I wanted the Hargreeves knowing I had powers yet. I sat upstairs while they had some kind of meeting in the basement kitchen. Five looked exactly the same as his portrait that hung above the fireplace.
Klaus came up to get me a little while later, saying it was time for the memorial service and afterward we could leave. He tried explaining how Five was back in his 13-year-old body, but all I got was that he got stuck in the future. He was there for 45 years, and made some kind of error, resulting in him looking young again.
It was raining now, cold and bitter. Klaus held me close and wrapped his coat around both of us. his necklaces pressed against my cheek. I wrapped my arms around him to block some of the wind from getting through the now-wider opening to his bare chest.
He unfurls a small, clear umbrella with a pink stripe around the bottom over us. All of the Hrgreevs siblings stand in a semi-circle with Pogo and a pristine-looking blonde woman. Grace. Luther stood in front of us with the urn. Diego and Luther were the only ones without umbrellas.
Klaus lights a cigarette and Pogo speaks, “Go on, my boy.”
After that, Luther scatters the ashes, but they largely just end up in a pile on the ground. The pile is much smaller than it would have been originally. This makes Klaus and me wince.
“Would’ve been better with some wind…” Luther says, half-heartedly.
I take the cigarette out of Klaus’s mouth and take a drag. Might as well. He looks at me, surprised, and starts to say something. Pogo is speaking about his life with Reginald.
“Shh. This is a funeral,” I say, sticking it back in his mouth.
“He was a monster,” Diego growls from next to Grace. “He was a bad person and a worse father. The world’s better off without him.”
“Diego.” Allison snaps.
“My name is Number Two. You know why? Because our father couldn't be bothered
to give us actual names. He had Mom do it.”
Grace smiles, seemingly unaware of the heated argument, “Would anyone like something to eat?”
“No, Mom, it’s okay,” Vanya says softly.
“Look, you wanna pay your respects? Go ahead. But at least be honest about the kind of man he was.”
“You should stop talking now,” Luther says quietly.
Diego walks up to him, “You know, out of everyone you should be on my side here, Number One.”
“I am warning you.” Five looks over at Klaus and me.
“After everything he did to you? He had to ship you a million miles away.”
“Diego, stop talking.”
“That’s how much he couldn't stand the sight of you!” Diego barked, prodding Luther’s chest.
In a flash of movement, Luther swats his arm away and throws a punch. Diego ducks and throws his own.
“Guys, stop it!” Vanya screams.
Klaus waves his fist, “Hit him! Hit him!”
“Come here, big boy!”
“We don't have time for this,” Five mutters.
The brothers move across the yard, landing hits on each other every few steps. Luther rears back and Diego ducks again. His fist makes contact with the memorial statue of Ben Hargreeves, knocking it from its pedestal. It lands with a deafening crack, the head coming clean off.
“Oh..”
“And there goes ben’s statue.”
Glinting silver catches my eye and I see Diego holding a knife, “Diego, no!” Vanya pleads.
Unfortunately, it's too late. Diego throws the knife at Luther, slicing his arm open. He grabs it and runs inside, not looking back. Allison and Pogo go inside, disappointed. As Klaus sits us down on a small bench, Vanya walks up to Diego. Diego takes Grace inside after Vanya leaves.
Klaus gets up, leaving me with the umbrella. He puts out his cigarette in the pile of his father’s ashes, saying something to them, then spins on his heel to face me again, “Best. Funeral. Ever!”
☂
The sun was setting when Klaus and I were alone again. He seemed on edge, uncomfortable. Which wasn't unusual for him, but it made me feel uneasy now.
"BD," he groans loudly, rubbing his face, "Are you high? Just tell me.”
"What? Why would you think-"
"You know I saw your pupils while we were…dancing. They were bigger than I've ever seen them, babe."
I chew on the inside of my cheek, thinking before answering, "No. I'm not high…" I can feel his eyes boring holes in me, "Anymore!"
"I knew it!"
"God, why can't I lie to your stupid, pretty face?"
His face falls, the opposite of his usual reaction to compliments, he steps forward and wraps me in his arms, "You relapsed…? BD, it's been 7 years, why…"
I feel heat rise up through my body and push him away, "You've been gone for 6 months, Klaus! No contact whatsoever, you could've been dead and I never would've known!"
"Well, I didn't really have a choice in the matter, babe! Do you think I would choose to do that to you?"
"Klaus Hargreeves, do not call me 'babe'! And I don't know what you would do, okay?!" I ball my hands into fists, "You're a junkie, Klaus! You're unpredictable!"
"You're off topic. We all know I'm fucked up, I never wanted you to be- to be like me. Why do you think I never used or even drank when I stayed with you?"
"I get it, I fucked up, but I was alone… they fired me, okay? They fired me from the hospital and didn't give me a reason." I whisper, hugging myself.
"BD, look at me. What do you want me to do? Do you want to hit me?"
"Don't do that. Don't be nice to me, yell at me, scream at me. I fucked up! Just be pissed at me like I'm pissed at you!"
"Okay. You're not driving us back home." He says, taking my keys from my pocket.
I reach after his hand and he raises them up out of my reach, "Klaus, I swear to God, I will climb you!"
"Or you could always use your powers," he laughs, muffled from my hand over his face, trying to get leverage.
"You masochistic bastard!"
"You know what?!"
He throws me over his shoulder and I start hitting and kicking him, "Fuck off, Klaus!"
We go down to the kitchen basement where Diego says he's leaving and Klaus invites us to go with him. I gave up fighting shortly after. He set me down in Diego's car when we got outside, getting in after me. I sit away from him, crossing my arms.
Klaus leads forward, next to Diego, "You know, everytime I close my eyes I can see a diuretic hippo about to shit on my face. It's terrifying…"
"...Great," he says, annoyed. "Lean back."
He does as he's told and pulls me over to him in the back seat, "Too cold to pout by yourself, babe,” he grins, “Hmmm, I'm starving. Are you starving?"
"I hate you."
"Aw, BD! I love you too!"
☂
I slam the door behind me when we get home, Klaus in front of me. Diego didn't even drive us all the way, he sulked at the river and then dropped us at a bus stop. That man was the biggest asshole I've ever met. Second only to his brother…
"Yes, Klaus, obviously you can stay here tonight. I just need time."
"Are we talking hours, minutes…"
"Klaus!" I groan in exasperation, staring at him from the doorway of my bedroom.
"Okay, okay. I'll just get some frozen waffles for us from the freezer. You have frozen waffles right?"
I stare at him with a dead look before shutting my door and locking it, "Love you!" I hear from the other side.
I fall back on my bed, throwing the pill bottle from under my pillow against the wall. As it explodes, colorful pills are scattered throughout my bedroom. Klaus Hargreeves will be the death of me.

Heyo! I’m new to your blog and was wondering I could get a scenario? Basically Makoto, Kokichi, Shuichi, Rantaro, and Nagito found out Y/N is about to be murdered. ( They can be in a relationship or interested in each other), and they swoop in and save them. You can make the “killer” anonymous or you can choose someone :) . Thanks! Sorry if it’s too specific! I’ve been doing this ask on other blogs and I just love to her writing style, so I wanted to see you write it! -🪐Anon
First off I must absolutely apologize that I actually can’t really write for Nagito. I have yet to touch the second game or even finish the anime so I have zero experience with anyone from the second game!
I’m super sorry about that, but I hope that you can enjoy everyone else’s scenarios!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kokichi, Makoto, Shuichi and Rantaro save their S/O from being murdered
Kokichi:
Kokichi always had a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
You had been strolling through the basement after a heavy reading session in the library.
Sometimes you enjoyed taking a break from reality and slip away into the world of books.
Not to mention your boyfriend could be a bit of a pain.
As you approached the stairs before you leading up to the 1st floor you came to a halt.
There was a soft thud sound coming from behind you.
You stayed for a few seconds until the noise happened once again.
This time it was followed by what seemed to be the pitter patter of footsteps.
“What the hell?”
You had seen everyone in the cafeteria before you had come down to the library, you hadn’t been down here for more than half an hour, who else but you had any kind of business down here?
You slowly inched your way towards the sound.
It seemed to be coming from the busted door for the AV theatre.
You clutched the book in your arms rather tightly (you had been planning to bring it to Kokichi’s room and read it with him) as your brain raced.
You wouldn’t lie. You were scared.
You tried to make as little noise as possible as you inched your way toward the sound and suddenly, just as you reached the door, it stopped.
You froze, unsure of if you wanted to move forward.
You started to peek your head around the corner, hoping to look in between the crack of the door.
But you were stopped when a pair of arms wrapped around your waist followed by an excited, “Hey there!”
And you were yanked backwards.
Just in time, as a sharp object flew past you and bounced off of the wall.
You were beyond shocked.
That would’ve hit your eye.
You whipped yourself around to face your savior to find a scowling Kokichi. A difference from his normal playful grin.
“K-Kokichi… Y-You-”
His scowl turned into a bright smile and he pinched your cheeks. “Just saved your life? You bet! Now you owe me~”
“B-But how did you-”
“Whatcha got there?”
“What this?” You held the book up to face him, seeming to completely forget about the near death experience you just had.
“Is that for me?” He was quick to grab it out of your hands and examine it.
“Well I was going to read it with you if you didn’t mind.”
“Great let’s go then!”
He grabbed onto your hand, intertwining his fingers with your own and pulled you off back towards the stairs.
Though he couldn’t fight back a quick glance over his shoulder, a harsh glaring look in his eyes as he surveyed the area.
He wouldn’t find out who did this.
He would find out who tried to take you from him.
And he wouldn’t rest until he did.
Makoto:
He actually knew about the murder plot waaaaay before you did.
He had stumbled upon Togami and Fukawa talking amongst each other in the library.
Maybe he heard them mention your name, maybe he didn’t but he wasn’t going to take any chances.
You had noticed that he was constantly on high alert around you and even when he wasn’t you always had the feeling that someone was watching you. It was kind of making you nervous.
You were absolutely clueless to what was going on.
When you stepped out of your room that morning to head towards the cafeteria you were greeted by Fukawa.
“Geesh Fukawa you scared the crap out of me!”
You practically jumped out of your skin when you saw her. Her own face was so close to yours.
“Um, can I help you? Did you need me for something?”
You could see her hand reach down towards her skirt but before she could do anything more there was the sound of a voice down the hallway.
“Hey (Y/N)! There you are!”
It was Makoto.
He practically ran down to meet you both and laughed rather awkwardly as he reached you. “I’ve been trying to find you, I uh, I gotta show you something real cool come on.”
He grabbed onto your hand and started to pull you down the hallway on the opposite way to the cafeteria.
“Makoto what’s going on?”
“I heard Togami and Fukawa planning to kill you! I-I had to get you out of there.”
He finally came to a halt and turned to face you. His hand fell to your cheek and a smile followed by a soft sigh covered his features. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
“Thank you for saving me Makoto.”
His cheeks dusted pink after hearing your words and he rested his forehead on yours. “Of course. I love you, I’m always going to look out for you.”
You couldn’t help but giggle at his embarrassment before responding to him. “I love you too.”
Shuichi:
The Ultimate Detective knew almost right away what was going on.
He knew the second Miu started to act a little too friendly with you.
He knew something was going on.
But he started to panic the night that you went missing.
He looked everywhere for you but he couldn’t seem to find you or Miu and no one had seen any sign of you.
He searched everywhere.
Everywhere except the Boiler room. He practically sprinted there, screaming, hoping and praying in his head that you would be there and you would be okay.
And he was partly right.
You were indeed there but you weren’t in any means okay.
He couldn’t see much but he could see Miu towering easily over you, she was much stronger, but you were trying to fight her off and keep her from attacking you.
He couldn’t believe his eyes.
“(Y/N)! Miu!”
She froze at the sound of his voice and tried to quickly separate herself from you. He could clearly see marks around your neck indicating that she had tried to strangle you at first.
His blood was boiling, but all he could do at that moment was make sure you were okay.
You were his top priority.
He practically fell to the ground when he reached you and quickly grasped for your face. His hands moved to examine your cheeks, your forehead, your neck all with the same panicky motions.
You had to reach up and grab his hands to get him to stop and calm down.
And now that you could get a good look at him you could see the tears beginning to form in his eyes.
And you couldn’t stop your own tears.
You quickly wrapped your arms around his neck and rested your face in his hair, trying to bite back your tears but they wouldn’t stop. “Shuichi I’m so glad to see you.”
“(Y/N) oh my god I was so worried about you.” His hands gently intertwined with the strands of your hair as he wrapped you in his embrace.
There was an instant sense of comfort and safety.
Nothing would ever happen to you as long as you were in Shuichi’s arms.
Neither of you had noticed Miu slip away. You were far too worried about each other.
But Shuichi would not allow this deed to go unpunished. She had hurt you. Almost killed you, and he couldn’t imagine his life without you.
He had to keep you safe.
Rantaro:
Normally you spent all of your nights in Rantaro’s room.
He was the only persona you felt safe with.
You could barely walk around during daylight hours by yourself let alone sleep in the depths of the darkness by yourself.
But now you were so reliant on it you couldn’t bear to spend any night by yourself.
You had been awaiting his presence in your bedroom. Pacing back and forth as you continuously checked the time.
He should’ve been here by now.
You moved on to bite your nails, trying to figure out what was going on. What would keep him this late?
The night time announcement had long passed and you were beginning to truly feel afraid.
And then there was the sound of your door opening.
And you were greeted with Rantaro’s warm voice.
“Hey sorry I’m late.”
You practically threw yourself at him the second he stepped through the door, and refused to let him go.
So it was decided he would sleep in your room that night.
And you both fell into a peaceful sleep, curled up in each others embrace.
You had noticed the sound of your door being unlocked.
Or the sound of it slowly creaking open.
But Rantaro had.
His grip around you tightened and he slowly sat himself up and shoved you behind him, awakening you from your slumber.
“Rantaro what’s-”
“Who’s there?”
You breath hitched in your throat when you spotted the shadow of a female lit only by the glow of the light outside of your room.
You moved closer to him and grabbed onto his shirt, fear coursing through your body.
“Wh-Who is that?”
He slowly reached from beneath the pillow he was using and you stared in confusion but before he could continue to move his arm the shadow dropped whatever was in their hand and ran out of the room, slamming the door behind them.
The second they were gone Rantaro jumped out of the bed and ran towards the light switch to see what had been dropped.
There was a single knife dropped onto the floor.
“Damnit…”
“Rantaro…”
“I can’t believe anyone would try to do this…”
He picked the knife off of the ground and examined it before letting out a long sigh. “This is so complicated.”
“What do we do now?”
He stayed silent for a couple seconds before placing the knife on the desk beside your bed. He sat back down beside you and gently pushed you back onto the bed and under the covers. “You, sleep. I’m going to keep watch. Tomorrow morning we’ll talk with everyone in the cafeteria and figure this out.”
“Are you sure you want to keep watch all night?”
He smiled at you and pressed a sweet kiss to your forehead before running his hands gently through your hair.
“I don’t mind. Sleep tight, alright? I’ll keep you safe.”
With him right by your side you were able to once again fall into a peaceful slumber.
Just like that, it was all over. You’d spent ten days in Iceland with Cale. Ten days that you were never going to forget. After spending your last morning visiting some lighthouses, another black sand beach, and a bridge spanning a rift valley, you were climbing back on a plane to fly to Calgary. Your little oasis with Cale was about to be broken by the harsh realities of the real world.
Your bed being cold without Cale sleeping beside you.
Your work email overflowing to the point you didn’t even know where to start.
Having five days to plan a Canada Day party which you’d forgotten you’d agreed to host.
Oh...and your parents coming to stay with you in two days.
_______
The fact that you were able to stand in your backyard surrounded by friends and family July 1st was something that would never have happened without help.
You hadn’t heard from Cale all day Saturday, but when your phone buzzed with a text on Sunday morning you couldn’t help the warm feelings that rose inside you.
Please tell me I’m not the only one sleeping like shit…
He certainly wasn’t. But at least he could nap after training...you weren’t nearly that lucky and you told him so. That led to a conversation about the million things you suddenly had to do in the next few days and how you weren’t sure you could get it all done.
And because he was legitimately the best boyfriend, item by item, Cale volunteered to help you check things off your list. He went to the grocery store with a list of all the food needed. He went to the liquor store for beer, wine, and other spirits. He and Taylor came over to do yard work so that you didn’t have to worry about it. He even picked your parents up from the airport when you had a last minute showing pop up.
Needless to say, you weren’t overstating it when you said Cale literally held your sanity in his hands.
For the first time since the plane home, you were able to steal a kiss as your parents made their way into the house after Cale dropped them off.
“Add this to the tally of things I owe you for.” You’d declared.
“I accept payment in kisses.” Cale teased. A quick glance around revealed you were alone for at least the moment, and you pressed up onto your toes letting your lips seek out his.
“That’s all I can do right now…” You murmured, looking over your shoulder again. “But I’ll make the rest up to you later I swear.”
“It’s fine, sweetheart.” Cale grinned. “I’ll see you in a couple days. Enjoy time with your parents.”
You’d given your parents the grand tour of the house, setting them up in the guest room. Your mom hadn’t even sat down before she was asking what she could do to help prepare for the party.
Yeah...you had some good helpers. As your yard started to fill up around lunchtime, you grabbed a wine cooler, starting to mingle. Your parents were there, Cale’s parents and brother were coming as were his grandparents, some of your parents’ friends were planning on stopping by, and quite a few of Cale and Taylor’s friends had also been invited. It was definitely the kind of party you had envisioned when you first stepped foot out here.
“Happy Canada Day!” Cale greeted, appearing suddenly behind you and pressing a quick kiss to the top of your head.
“You guys are here!” You exclaimed, twisting to wrap him in a quick hug, careful not to let it linger too long.
“Yep. The whole crew is here.” Cale agreed, motioning to where his mom was eagerly engaged in a hug with yours having not seen each other in quite a while. “And I see you’re trying to make me pop a boner in front of everyone.” He whispered, his eyes raking up your body quickly.
“It’s just a dress Cale.” You whispered back, eyes teasing. “Nothing special.”
“Except your legs look a mile long.” He grumbled, causing a laugh to spill from your throat.
“Oh suck it up buttercup.” You said, shaking your head.
“Suck what up?” Gary inquired, moving over to hug you, your dad right behind him.
“I told Cale he was in charge of setting up the lawn games and he’s whining about it.” You declared, excuse spilling from your lips on the fly. The look on Cale’s face was priceless and you struggled to keep your expression level as he looked at you. Gary quickly shook his head, chastising his oldest son and you mouthed the word ‘sorry’ at Cale as he shook his head and moved to grab Taylor to help him.
Playing hostess kept you quite busy and with so many people around you really couldn’t sneak much time with Cale. It had already been a couple hours and you hadn’t even spoken to him beyond the brief conversation when they arrived. Watching as he played spike ball with his brother and some friends across the yard caused that familiar ache to spread through your body telling you that you were going to combust if you couldn’t at least properly kiss him.
After a few more minutes, Cale disappeared inside and you excused yourself from conversation declaring that you needed to bring up some more drinks from the basement.
Closing the back door, you waited at the top of the basement stairs for Cale to return and when you spotted him you gently tugged him toward you.
“Come ‘ere.” You murmured quietly in case anyone else was in ear shot inside. Pulling him all the way down into the basement, you guided him around the corner before stretching to kiss him deeply. “Hi.” You greeted your forehead resting against his when you finally pulled away.
“Hey sweet girl.” Cale replied, his hands easily settling along your hips.
“Needed to kiss you.” You mused. “I miss you.”
“Miss you too...but you look like you’re enjoying yourself. This is one of the things you wanted.” Cale acknowledged.
“It is and I am.” You agreed, your fingers running down his stomach feeling his muscles constrict under your touch. “You look like you’re having fun too. You look pretty sexy out there.”
“Don’t start something we can’t finish.” Cale groaned, quickly responding to your tone of voice.
“Who said I can’t finish it?” You questioned. “We just have to be quick.” As you spoke you were already sinking to your knees, your fingers dipping down to Cale’s shorts.
“Y/N...you don’t….shit.” Cale breathed, his hips bucking as you took him into your mouth after sliding his shorts and boxer briefs down just enough. Taking everything you had learned from the last time, you bobbed your head up and down Cale’s length, your fist stroking what you couldn’t take. It was a quick and dirty blow job, Cale’s cheeks flushing a deep crimson as you ran your tongue along the veins of his cock each time you pulled off to breathe.
Sucking the tip of his cock you peeked up at him, watching as his head fell back against the wall behind him.
“Gonna cum…” Cale whispered.
“That’s what I want handsome. Cum down my throat.” You mumbled, sinking back down on his length. As you pushed the limits of your gag reflex, you felt Cale’s cock twitch before ropes of semen spilled into your mouth and throat. Swallowing as quickly as you could, you tried not to gag or choke before finally pulling off him, a mix of saliva and semen linking your lips to his dick.
Wiping your lips, you gently worked Cale back into his clothes as he stood panting above you.
“You’re insane.” Cale mumbled as he finally leaned down to kiss you. “Our parents are just outside...my grandparents are outside.”
“Like the risk of getting caught didn’t just make you cum harder than usual down my throat.” You sassed, fixing your dress to make sure it didn’t look too rumpled. Cale couldn’t fight you because he knew you were right and as you moved across the basement to grab another six pack of beer you felt his eyes linger.
“Now make yourself useful and grab that case of drinks. I bumped into you on your way back outside and made you come help me. Cover story.” You winked, biting your lip as you made your way back upstairs.
You had barely got the new beers stuck into the cooler when your mom grabbed you.
“You haven’t showed us those vacation pictures yet. Laura and I are dying to see them. Grab your computer and we’ll meet you in the living room.”
Not being given a choice, you nodded and watched as your mom crossed the yard, grabbing Laura and Cale’s grandma. Looking back toward the mixed drink station you saw Cale standing with one of his buddies pouring shots.
A few quick strides had you at his side.
“Pour me one of those?” You insisted.
“Everything okay Y/N?” Cale asked, tone neutral though his eyes showed a hint of concern.
“Just pour me a drink Cale. I’m about to go sit through the vacation slideshow with our moms…” Cale’s friend moved a few steps away but you lowered your voice further before continuing. “...And I’m not doing that with the taste of your cum in my mouth.”
Cale nearly sputtered, but quickly recovered, pouring you a shot before clinking his glass against yours as you downed them.
“Wish me luck.” You murmured, shaking your head just slightly as you moved from his side and into the house. In your bedroom, you made doubly sure you had pulled up the correct photo album before you carried your laptop into the living room, hooking it up to the tv.
For the next half hour you explained the photos when necessary and listened as all of the women in your lives raved on how beautiful they were and what a wonderful trip it must have been. While these photos stirred up so many memories, this wasn’t the album that you’d found yourself looking at repeatedly. No...it was the other album that you loved most of all. The one full of pictures of you and Cale looking so completely head over heels for each other. For now though, that album was something just for you, even if you were looking forward to the day you could print some of the pictures and hang them in your bedroom.
As you finished, your dad and Gary came barreling into the house wanting to know where everything was to start grilling up dinner. Taking your laptop back to your room, you got the guys everything they needed before leaving them to it. Meanwhile, you finished off the few remaining things that needed done to the sides, pulling those and condiments out of the fridge.
“What do you mean after everything that happened between Cale and Y/N.” You mom’s voice slowly grew louder and your stomach dropped as you brain raced to catch up with the pieces of conversation you’d missed.
“Y/N didn’t tell you about Cale’s pregnancy scare with his ex? It caused major strain on their relationship.”
“No…” You mom insisted as she stepped into the kitchen. You hadn’t mentioned it assuming Laura would and apparently Laura had expected you to and hadn’t herself.
“Can we not bring up old wounds?” You said, not realizing the snap behind your words. “She was an idiot who really hurt him and we should just be glad that it all worked out the way it did. Things are finally getting back to normal so can we please not drag this out any longer than we already have?” You were done and over with having to think about Cale’s ex… you knew it still hurt him a little even if he pretended it didn’t and you couldn’t help but be defensive and protective.
Your mom and Laura shared a look, but neither said anything in response, instead asking if there was anything they could do to help.
“No. I’ve got it. Thank you.” You assured them. You remained in the kitchen, your chest heaving until dinner was completely ready and all of your guests had been told to dig in. Then you slipped into your room, closing the door behind you as you tried to calm your raging emotions.
After a few minutes, a knock sounded and you expected it to be your mom on the other side. Instead Cale popped his head in before stepping inside and closing the door. His hands rubbed at the back of his neck and his body language drew a sigh from your lips.
“How much of that did you hear?”
“Enough.” Cale responded, sitting down next to you on your bed, his arm draping around you. “You okay?” He questioned.
“I should be asking you that.” You replied flatly. “I’m sorry.”
“I have no idea what you’re even apologizing for..so don’t.” You couldn’t help but lean into Cale’s body as his fingers traced up and down your arm. “If I kiss you will that help you calm down enough to get some dinner?” He teased, lifting your chin up so that he could ease his mouth over yours gently. Slowly your body relaxed under his kiss and when you broke apart you certainly felt a little bit better.
“That’s my girl.” Cale grinned, seeing the soft smile reappear on your face. “C’mon.” He prompted, offering a hand out to pull you up off the bed.
“Hey Cale.” You stopped him, pulling him back toward you. “I don’t think you were wearing this lip color before...probably should fix that.” You smiled, reaching out to rub the makeup off his mouth from your reapplication shortly before. “I’ll be out in a minute.” You assured him as you leaned against your bathroom door wanting to make sure that you didn’t look too out of place.
No one spoke a word of what had happened during dinner and as the sun started to set the majority of your guests left, leaving just your family and Cale’s as the guys started a small fire in the firepit. You’d stepped inside to use the bathroom and when you returned the only seat left around the fire was on the loveseat beside Cale.
Settling in beside him you smiled as he widened the spread of his legs so that his thigh was pressing against yours. It was a subtle move but the skin to skin contact was beyond welcome and you were grateful, knowing he worked the seating so the two of you could share. Having grabbed another drink, you felt the pleasant hum of alcohol starting to build after awhile. Around the same time you started to shiver as the outside temperature dropped.
“Anyone else need a refill?” Cale inquired when he moved to stand up, his own drink empty. A chorus of yeses and nos followed him and when he returned he not only had his arms full of drinks but also the blanket from the back of your couch. Draping the blanket over your lap, Cale handed you a fresh drink making you smile.
“Your son is trying to get me tipsy Laura.” You joked.
“You’re already tipsy sunshine.” Cale declared as he dropped back down beside you. “And you’re allowed to be. You worked really hard to pull this together and today’s been pretty awesome.” Cale’s praised was echoed by everyone else and you took it as best you could considering compliments weren’t your thing.
“I had some help...let’s be fair.” You shrugged.
“Oh my god. You and my brother are the two most humble people I have ever met.” Taylor groaned. “No wonder you’re best friends.”
Grinning over at Cale, you let your eyes fall shut after a moment, just enjoying the sounds of your families spending time together. Feeling Cale’s hand slide under the blanket to your inner thigh made your eye pop open and you eyed him carefully.
‘Just relax.’ He mouthed before jumping back into the conversation. As he spoke, his hands slid under your dress until his fingers were brushing against the fabric of your panties. Laura asked you a question about something, honestly you were too focused on Cale’s hand to remember your answer, but once you had finished Cale’s fingers slid under your underwear. Nimble fingers stroked over your clit and your eyes fluttered shut again.
Hopefully it just looked like you were sleepy, because you weren’t sure you could pay full attention to what was going on around you when Cale’s hand was doing things like that.
“Oh.” You gasped, drawing everyone’s attention to you. Cale’s hand stilled as your mom asked if you were okay.
“Yeah. I’m fine.” You insisted. “My ankle is still tender and I shifted it wrong.” Your excuse turned the attention to Cale’s heroics at the cave in Iceland and as your families talked about it and how they would have reacted so far from medical attention, Cale’s fingers shifted to curl inside of you.
Though he couldn’t move much, this was the first time he was touching you since he made love to you that last night of vacation. Considering you were wound tighter than a spring, Cale’s fingers curling inside you as his thumb rubbed against your clit were quickly pushing you toward an orgasm of your own.
Thankfully the darkness masked the subtle nuances of your face as Cale’s fingers made you fall apart. As you came down from your high, Cale wiping his fingers on either your dress or the blanket you weren’t quite sure, you took another long sip of your drink. Cale had just finger fucked you feet from both of your families who could both see and hear you! And to think he’d said you were insane for going down on him with your families outside!
Your brain was spinning trying to process what the fuck had just happened and how much you had enjoyed it. The two of you were seriously taking the whole ‘sneaking around like teenagers’ thing to the next level. It was a miracle you hadn’t gotten caught. Lost in thought you missed the fire starting to die out and Gary mentioning that they should probably get going. It wasn’t until Cale pulled you to your feet so his family could hug you that you caught up with reality.
“I’m gonna help this tipsy one inside real quick and then I’ll meet you at the car.” Cale insisted once hugs had been exchanged. His arm swung under your legs, picking you up bridal style and after weaving through doorways, he gently laid you down on your bed.
“We’re gonna talk about that later.” You mumbled, yawning softly.
“Whatever you say sweetheart. Get some sleep.” Cale replied, kissing your forehead as he tucked you in.
Your bedroom door creaked shut with Cale’s departure as the words fell unconsciously from your lips.
“Love you.”
14 Firefighters Share Their Scariest Paranormal Encounters
The weirdest part of the fire was the 911 call. The callers wife was in the background screaming, “you f**ked him off now, look he’s gone and burned the place down”.
With grit and determination, every day firefighters bravely put their lives on the lines for us, but it seems it’s not just the flames these brave men and women face; from haunted firehouses to ghostly apparitions. Here are 14 of the most chilling paranormal encounters and ghost stories shared by firefighters from across the United States.
1. Guardian Angel
Our firehouse isn’t haunted, at least not on a regular basis, but one of our engines is.
Two examples I have personally seen and experienced are; first, we were responding to a call in a dark, secluded, industrial area one night when the engine suddenly sputtered, stalled, and coasted to a stop right in front of a railroad crossing with no gates. Just as we stopped, a freight train came through. The engine started right up and ran fine after the train passed.
The second example happened one blazing hot summer afternoon when we were called to a highway construction site for a burning shanty. We pulled up and began advancing the handline when it suddenly seemed like the hose became tangled up in the hosebed. We went back to the engine to check, and just then the shanty blew up into thousands of tiny pieces. There were NO tangles in the hose, and it wasn’t caught or hung up anywhere.
2. Mr Jones
Our fire department is haunted by a man named Mr. Jones. The story dates back many years before we built a new station. Mr. Jones died at the old firehouse from a heart attack after battling a house fire.
A chief told me a story once: ‘I went to the restroom which was off the hallway. On my way in, I sat my brand new pack of cigarettes on the file cabinet outside of the doorway. When I came out, the cigarettes were lined end-to-end down the hallway.’
Another firefighter about a year later also had a ‘Mr. Jones Experience.’ He and another guy were watching TV one night when the clock above the TV flew off the wall, landed in the center of the room, spun around a few times, then landed on a book shelf.
All of the ‘haunted firehouse’ stories never really had me believing until Mr. Jones gave me a story of my own. I have this thing about open shower curtains. I notice when they are open and I have to close them. I had walked into the restroom to clean it but forgot a trash bag. The shower curtain was open. When I walked back in, about 30 seconds later, the curtain was closed. That is the only story that is personal. Other than that, we have doors that open and close by themselves, lights that go on and off, stuff like that. So that’s my story and I’m stickin to it.
3. Jesus Christ
About seven or eight years ago, we arrived at a townhouse with heavy fire from the first floor on side one. After making entry, locating the fire in the kitchen, and extinguishing, we set about taking out a few windows for ventilation.
After the smoke had risen, we noticed that the living area to the rear of the kitchen (which was on the right hand side as we entered) had taken significant smoke and heat damage. On the wall was a picture of Jesus Christ, and it was the only object in the room that appeared untouched. Even the wall BEHIND the picture was smoke-stained and blistered.
There was evidence of two streams of water that had trickled from the lower corners of the picture to a point in the middle of the wall where they met and continued down to the floor. The odd thing was that the line had been pulled through this room and was flowing into the kitchen to push the fire out the front, through a large vented window. No water had been flowing in the room, and the steam produced had been pushed out the window. Even the FM was amazed, and we haven’t seen anything like it since. It kinda makes one wonder.
4. Steve
We have a protector. We had a member, Steve that was killed in the line of duty during a helicopter operation. Ever since he died, members swear they can hear him in the building at night. Doors close, open, etc. without explanation. Then one night we figured out why he was there.
One of our members who has been here about 15 years now was on duty. We have bullet proof vests we keep on the units, but in a back compartment. He heard that compartment open and close. He went out into the bay and looked at it, and for some reason he took the vest out and put it in the front seat. He’d never done that before.
Next thing you know, he’s toned out to a ‘sick call’ that after his arrival was deemed a shooting. Nothing happened to him, but the point was made.
Several such incidents have occurred. Whenever something big is about to happen, a unit door opens and shuts or a bay door opens etc. We always know.
5. The Phantom Handprint
On April 18, 1924, a firefighter named Frank Leavy was washing a window at the fire station. For some reason, he paused in his work, his hand resting against the pane of glass, and he told a friend who was standing nearby that he had the strangest feeling he was going to die that day. Just then, the station received an alarm call and the fire fighters were sent to a fire that had broken out at Curran Hall, an office building in Chicago. While fighting the fire, a wall collapsed and killed eight of the firemen… Frank Leavy was one of those killed.
The next day, one of the firemen noticed something strange about the window that Frank had been washing the day before. There seemed to be an unusual stain on the glass…. and it appeared to be the imprint of Frank’s hand at the same spot where he had been leaning the day before.
They tried everything that they could, but they could find no way to erase the strange handprint. It seemed to be etched into the glass!
An expert from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass company brought a special solution to the fire house, guaranteeing that it would remove the print, but it didn’t work. Over the years, there were suggestions that the pane of glass be removed, but many of the firemen argued, saying that it was not right to fool with the unknown. Besides that, it was a reminder, albeit a grim one, of their dead friend. And there was no doubt that the handprint belonged to Frank Leavy! An official from the city had come down with a fingerprint comparison and the prints matched those of Frank’s. For the next twenty years, the handprint defied all explanation and was a common attraction to visitors and other firemen from around the city.
Finally, on the morning of April 18, 1944 a careless paper boy tossed the morning edition at the fire house and shattered the window where Frank’s handprint had been.
It happened exactly twenty years to the date of when Frank Leavy died!
6. “You F**ked Him Off Now”
There was a fire about 6-7yrs ago. The call was weird from the start, the 1st due engine didn’t want to start (it was out on a run bout 20mins before) they get there, the house was fully involved. When they got there, the fire was burning in strange ways… at one point flames were shooting out a window, and taking a ninety degree turn upward. The investigator pictures show the face of the devil in the smoke and flames. I know it sounds BS, but I have seen a few of these pics, and have talked with some of the investigators. They were saying that the basement was rocking, when they went back the next day it looked as though nothing burned downstairs.
The weirdest part of the fire was the 911 call. The dispatcher said the callers wife was in the back ground screaming, “you f**ked him off now, look he’s gone and burned the place down”. These people were said to have been Satan worshipers, everyone in the Dept. is afraid to even go on that road for calls. Incidentally the name of the road is “Angel Hill” hmmm, pretty weird.
7. Footsteps
I worked for a department that had lost a few members in its time. Over the course of the first few months I was there, I noticed strange noises in the bay. Once, I walked in the front door only to hear the back door slam. I walked back to see who it was, and when I opened the back door, no one was there. There was fresh snow on the ground and no tracks.
Another time I went down to the bay in the middle of the night. I heard distinct footsteps walking around one of the rigs on the other side of the bay. I called out but no one answered. I got spooked and crept around the bay with an axe trying to find the intruder. No one there! I also got a really spooky feeling a few times when I was alone in the bay by the back door. Later, I happened to mention to the chief that I had heard some weird stuff in the station at night. He got a strange look on his face and said ‘Let me guess… footsteps behind Engine 3 and a creepy feeling by the back door!’ I got the same story from one of the captains, about hearing footsteps and all that. Guess someone’s still hanging around…
8. The Station in The Woods
Back at my old department before I moved to my current one I was assigned to the farthest southern station by myself with a single engine. The area was in a heavily wooded area of the district. At night it got extremely dark in that area, more so than the other areas of the dist. There were a lot of one lane dirt and paved roads as well as a few meth labs, and no police coverage.
I had had several occasions that I would hear dogs barking at a house near the station, and hear sounds outside the station like thumping noises, usually after 1 AM. I would go outside to look and no one would be there. These noises went on for about a week. Once I had a friend from another station come down to visit me but I was gone, he got scared off when he heard five loud bangs on the wall near the kitchen, of course he failed to tell me this. Another night I was in bed and saw a shadow outside my window walking in the flower bed. The shadow passed my window and then the person kicked the door near the bay. I crawled out of bed and called 911, while I was on the phone the person busted out the bedroom window, half scared shitless I ran to the engine and bailed north to another station with a higher staffing level. The PD responded and 45 minutes later searched and deemed the station safe.
I soon after moved from that station and it is no longer staffed even now 3 years later. I found out from a B/C later on that a previous FF had been attacked in the parking lot washing an engine, and that the station had had several other weird occurrences happen since it was built.
9. The Hose Tower Hanging
I too have heard of the strange noises that occur inside many of our firehouses.
We have a firehouse that late at night, you can hear chains rattling at the top of the hose tower. When you turn on the light and climb the ladder to the platform at the top of the tower, nothing is there. The rumor has it that back in the 50’s a probationer hung himself in the hose tower and wasn’t discovered for a week.
10. The Old Capt.
The oldest station in Lex., KY, is haunted, according to some of the old heads, by an old Capt. who died while on duty in his sleep on Christmas Eve in the 1940’s. He is said to have sat in an old cane bottomed rocking chair, that chair was put in the attic of the station after his death, where it is still heard to be rocking on occasion.
Chiefs have gotten calls from neighbors who were mad because they could see a fireman looking out of the upstairs window, but no one would answer the door. This usually happens when the engine company was out on a fire run or training. Engine started by itself and backed in to the wall one night (std. trans.). Some of the guys who have worked there would not even go in the house alone on payday to pick up their pay checks if the co. was out.
11. The Ouija Board
A fire company that I used to belong to is quartered in a building built in the 1930’s and it is unquestionably haunted. Odd things happen regularly such as bathroom stall doors being locked from the inside, tv and lights turning on and off, footsteps across the floor, yelling when nobody else is there, etc… A few members decided to bring in an Ouija board one night and see what they could find. It turns out that there are two ghosts, one is a past chief and the other is a small boy that used to live in a row of miner’s houses that has long since been torn down.
The chief confirmed his identity by naming other long dead members (so long dead that we had to dig back 50 years in the company’s records to even find their names!). The chief generally drags chairs around the meeting room at night and yells at members while the boy is constantly bouncing his ball on the upstairs floor. All of this only happens at night.
12. The Indian Arrowheads
My father’s volunteer fire company also found Indian arrowheads while they were digging for an addition to the firehouse back in the 50s, but they also unearthed cannonballs and buttons. If my memory is right, some expert said that the cannonballs were from the American revolution and that the buttons were from a Hessian soldier (Hessians were mercenaries that the British used against Washington’s army). BUT – strange things began happening while those items the firemen dug up were in the firehouse.
First off, anyone that touched the items got very ill with high fevers and rash. The guys that actually dug up the items were very bad off; and their feet became swollen and turned black and blue. The door to the firehouse would also swing open just as someone approached, and the doors to the huge cast iron firehouse oven would open and close all by itself. Someone in the company said that they should bury the items; put them back in the ground – and when they did everyone got better, and all the strange things stopped happening.
13. The Fortune Teller
My firehouse has had a run of strange happenings over the years also. Many of us have actually seen a misty figure move through the rec room and out to the apparatus room. Some of the crews have seen the figure together, others have seen him when they were by themselves. The usual doors swinging, chairs moving upstairs, people walking across the floor or up and down the stairs happens occasionally.
The really scary part was when a friend of a friend stopped by the firehouse with her kids for a tour. This woman practices tarot card readings, fortune telling and the like. She had never been in the firehouse before and had never known about any of the instances in the firehouse. After the tour she asked me if the firehouse had “guest appearances” often. I thought she meant the kids and said that we often have children take tours of the place. She corrected herself and asked if we had ever seen ghosts, I said, maybe-I’m not sure. She described our misty figure from head to toe exactly as he appears and said she had seen him. Do I believe, probably not much more than I had before that day but I don’t doubt anything.
14. Standing Behind Me
This story takes place in Fayetteville, NC and the department I used to work for there. When I was assigned to Engine 2, I had heard all kinds of stories of it being haunted. Footsteps, doors opening, writing on the wall, and even a sighting are all the things I was told about.
I heard some things once in a while but the one time I was really spooked happened in late 2000. I was lying in bed, about 2 am when I heard footsteps approach my bunk and stop behind me, between my bed and the wall. The first thing I thought was that I had slept through a call but then I saw that my LT was still asleep and I noticed the radio was quiet. I could feel someone standing beside the bed and as much as I didn’t want to I slowly turned and looked to find that there was no one there.
Syncytium - Chapter 5
Title: Polarization Words: 11,170 (including author’s comments) Rating: T
Fan Fiction: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13712482/5/Syncytium
Just as always, I highly recommend the FF.net version, as it includes all accentuated words. This has been my favorite chapter to write so far. Consider it a New Year’s Eve gift. Enjoy. :)
October 1st, 1993 - 7:10 PM
The wall to the cloaked laboratory slid open with a soft hiss as Brian T. Globetrotter quickly shuffled out of his private workshop and headed for the elevator. His ears perked a little as a distant sound caught his ear. It sounded like shuffling. Was that coming from the... trash cans? A yearning desire to investigate had to be cut short, however, as a small ding signaled the arrival of his ride. Not like he could wait another minute anyway. He stepped past the steel doors and poked intrusively at Floor One's button, doing his best not to break out in a desperate dance as his pained expression was shut to the basement.
In a back corner of the basement, a trash can wiggled about unsteadily... then went still. A second later and it jumped about again, rocking back and forth, as if someone were tickling its insides mercilessly. Then, with an echoing pop that reverberated off the walls, from its stomach burst forth a tall white mouse, his hair disheveled and his glasses askew as he shook himself, breathed out a welcome sigh of relief, and hopped out of the can before replacing its lid.
"Sorry, Mr. Trash Can. Zort! Thanks for all the help, though!" Pinky apologized, smiling as he refitted the can with its metallic "hat" and patted it kindly.
Even though no one could hear him, he took care to tip-toe as covertly as he could past where the secret laboratory lay, beyond the elevator, and up... up... up the stairs, only exiting onto the first floor landing once he heard the familiar ding of the elevator below, signaling Globetrotter's return to the basement. He smiled and blew out yet another grateful sigh. That was a close one. He'd almost gotten caught!
Down below, Globetrotter stepped out of the elevator, adjusting his pants a touch and facepalming. That one had been painful... He reminded himself that his next doctor appointment was the following Tuesday, and privately hoped that they'd have a better solution - stronger pills or something. This was getting ridiculous.
Pinky hadn't noticed that, in his haste to hide from Globetrotter's prying eyes, he'd dropped his #2 pencil on the ground at the lab's entrance. But Globetrotter noticed. He picked up the orange object and turned it about with bandaged fingers, a crease or two forming upon his thick brow. This wasn't his. #2 pencil? He'd never be that cheap. Someone had been here...
October 4th, 1993 - 4:14 PM
It was official: The Halloween party was happening at the end of the month - October 30th, a Saturday. Somehow, after four years of the school going without any employees-only holiday gatherings, Pinky had gotten it passed; or, rather, the principal had passed it. Even with him being one for the theatrics, many still couldn't understand why he had no aversion what-so-ever to such an event, especially considering that it was said principal whom had banned employees-only parties in the first place due to an unfortunate incident. Some were convinced that he had an ulterior motive, though what that might be no one could even begin to guess. And so a mystery it remained, although a good number of teachers were unabashedly excited for the party regardless. A few stragglers, such as Mr. Ages and Globetrotter, refused to attend, finding it a waste of time. Completely. Others, however, such as Mrs. Brisby, Dr. Dawson, and Bernard and Bianca had already picked out their costumes. Mr. Ages and Globetrotter rolled their eyes at this. It was generally agreed upon that the party was to be held at Flaversham's house, as he was one of the most handsomely paid and, as a result, owned the largest establishment. He was also incredibly humble about it and often welcomed visitors. The only rule for this autumn gathering was that no children were allowed, and so Olivia would have to room with Mrs. Brisby and her children for the night. Flaversham was agreeable to this. Olivia was not.
Pinky came across her that afternoon, sulking by his door at 4:14 PM. She had been noticeably absent to class, and as the lanky, spectacled mouse approached the young girl, he frowned at her in concern.
She didn't look at him as he knelt down to her level. The floor was, apparently, much more interesting.
"Olivia?" Pinky began, tilting his head a little, the better to look into those stubborn, glossy eyes. "Class wasn't the same without you."
She sniffed, the tears began to fall, yet still she said nothing.
"Olivia...?" he inquired again, reaching out a soft paw and delicately tucking a finger underneath her chin, the better, of course, to tilt her head towards him. He smiled at her, a kindly, encouraging smile. "I'm here."
And the dam burst.
She threw herself into his arms, sobbing vehemently, as only a child can when they've been denied something incredibly important to them. Pinky hugged her right back, patting her back gently.
"Naaaaarf," her teacher cooed in his unusual way, rubbing her head. "Ohhhhh. Tell me all about it, hm?"
"M-My daddy... says I can't go to the Halloween party!" Olivia managed to choke out. "We always do everything together... when I'm not at school! B-But he said that... I can't go because... this is a party only for the adults." At this, she had to pause, for another torrential downpour threatened to burst, making her breath hitch. She was shaking so much that she'd shook her little tam-o-shanter right off her head. "I promise I'll be good! I won't even drink the alkaseltzer!"
She said this all so seriously, and anyone else might have stifled a snort at such an overly-dramatic display, as well as her incorrect pronunciation of "alcohol", but Pinky was not like other adults. He took Olivia's woes as gravely as if he'd just been delivered the news himself. After all, if he was uninvited to one of the coolest parties of the year, especially one he was to be the host of, he'd be pretty bummed out, too.
"Oh, Olivia...," he whimpered along with her, pulling the young girl back from his shoulder so as to address her properly, and felt his heart practically break at the sight of her crimson eyes. "I'm sure your dad would normally love to have you stay! After all, it's not a real party without Olivia." And he winked at her. That turned her frown upside down, if only for half a second. "I'd be really sad to not be invited to a party, too, ya' know."
"R-Really...?" the distraught little student hiccuped, wiping her eyes.
"Of course! But... you know something else?"
"What?"
"I'll bet some of the other kids are sad that they won't get to go to the party with their parents either. Like... Timothy and Cynthia. They can't go either, can they?"
Olivia shook her head.
"And you're the oldest, right?"
Yes.
"You know what that means, don't you?"
No.
"That means that you're in charge of making your own party!"
"You mean... we can have our own private party without the adults?"
"As long as Mrs. Brisby says it's okay. I'll put in a good word for you," Pinky promised. "Oh, and just between us...," and at this, he leaned in towards Olivia, cupping a hand to his mouth. Olivia extended an ear in interest. "I'm rather jealous I won't be able to attend yours. I'm sure it'll be way cooler."
At this, Olivia beamed.
"It'll be the best party you'll have never been to!"
And she picked up her hat from off the floor and slapped it down resolutely upon her furry little head, the redness of her eyes the only trace that she'd ever been crying at all. She spread her arms wide before hugging Pinky tight around the middle, nuzzling into his chest... and letting a few stray tears leak out in the process.
"Thank you, Mr. Pinky...," she whispered under her breath, and Pinky couldn't help but smile as he embraced her in return.
"You're welcome, Miss Olivia," he replied right back, booping her nose and waving after her as she ran off and around a corner.
Olivia's chipper exit was replaced by a much stiffer entrance in the form of Globetrotter, who stared after Olivia in judgement as he straightened a small stack of papers clutched in his grasp. This didn't phase Pinky in the least.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Brain!" he greeted him cheerfully, and for once, possibly the very first time for Pinky, Globetrotter actually smiled at him. Well, perhaps it was more of a smirk than a genuine grin, but Pinky accepted it either way. It was nice to see.
"Evening, my quixotic colleague," Globetrotter responded, his tone and inflection considerably more chipper than usual. "I take it you're excited for the festivities?"
"Ohhh, yes! Are you coming?" Pinky asked, as he stepped into his classroom. Globetrotter followed him to the door.
"I don't participate in such frivolities," said Globetrotter, hands tucked neatly behind his back and expression monotonous as he watched Pinky grab a tall ladder from the back of the classroom and position it underneath a dead light bulb. "You'll just have to survive without my presence."
Pinky tut tut tutted sadly as he picked out a fresh bulb from one of the desk drawers and made for the ladder.
"Not even for the punch, Brain?"
"It's Brian. Mr. Globetrotter, preferably. And, no, not even for what I'm sure will be... a delectable punch."
"Mmm. Shame," Pinky shrugged, as he popped the bulb in his mouth, clumsily climbed up the ladder, and carefully set down his bulb as he fixed to take out the old one. "I was rather looking forward to having you."
"You were?" Globetrotter asked, surprised. No one ever wanted him anywhere.
"Of course! Poit!" responded the other, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "You were one of the first ones to welcome me when I came to the school, and you did so very well in my class!"
"That was... just a fluke," Globetrotter responded rather bashfully, averting his gaze a little.
"You're also the only other person who's still around at night when I go home late. It... makes me feel a little less lonely."
Globetrotter cocked an eyebrow at him curiously. He simply couldn't make heads or tails of this creature. Not only did he care about him for the stupidest, most meaningless reasons he could possibly concoct, he also saw him as an... equal. The very thought sent shivers up Globetrotter's spine. Never in his life would he put himself on the same pedestal as this nincompoop, not if he was paid to do it. Ronald Pinkus was beneath him in every way. And yet... there was something, dare he say it, wholesome about how he flat out refused to acknowledge any flaws in Brian what-so-ever, for flaws he had and plenty of them. This he knew, yet hated to admit. But he'd never met anyone who genuinely looked past them; who not only wasn't afraid to approach him, but sometimes purposely sought him out. It was... odd. Touching, but... odd.
He coughed uncomfortably.
"Yes, well... Maybe you should simply... retire earlier. There's more associates around before six o'clock."
"B-But I can't retire, Brain!" Pinky voiced worriedly, screwing in the new bulb, which popped a stale yellow as he wound it into place. "I just got here!"
"I meant rest. Perhaps you should go home earlier in the day, you... undeveloped fetus."
The insult flew right over Pinky's head to land somewhere in an empty corner, where no one else's ears could possibly pick it up. If anything, Pinky beamed at Globetrotter's response.
"Ohhhhhh! Well, that's different then, isn't it? But, oh, wait... No. No no, I couldn't possibly do that either. What about the students?"
"The students?"
"Yes, Brain! Don't your students ask to talk with you about their problems after class?" asked Pinky matter-of-factly, as he promptly descended the ladder, folded it up, and moved it back to its resting place. He hummed a very repetitive little tune as he did all this. Hm hm, hm hm, hm hmmmm. It was monotonous, yet curiously catchy, in a way.
"Noooooooo... Not usually. Sometimes they'll ask a question about a theory or mathematical equation, of course, but that's to be expected," he said, perhaps a bit haughtily as he checked over his fingernails. "I am not privy to the personal issues and well-being of my pupils. They keep to their business and I keep to mine. This is a school, not a therapist's office."
"It's not?"
Brain stared at him, giving him the most deadpan glare he could possibly muster.
"You are, without a doubt, the daftest individual I've ever met."
"Thank you, Brain," Pinky smiled, and he said it genuinely.
With a shake of the head, Brain stepped back out into the hallway, Pinky following.
"If you'll excuse me, I must return to my state of business," said he, and he began to walk away from room 210.
"Oh! Ummm... Brain?" Pinky asked, remaining by his door as he waved an eager hand towards his colleague.
Brain turned to look back at him, one eyebrow raised and hands once more tucked behind his back.
"Will you be eating dinner here at the school tonight?" he asked.
Globetrotter stared at him for a moment, nonplussed.
"Most likely. Why?"
"Would you like to join me in the cafeteria? I have something for yoouuuuu!"
Globetrotter considered this. Normally, his answer would be a firm and stalwart "NO", but perhaps it would work to his benefit. Being closer to Pinky would enable him to carry out his plan much faster and easier. The lanky teacher was such an unsuspecting ignoramus that he could probably finish the job Scott free, even in a public area. Heheh. Finish the job. Oh, it sounded so devious...
"Ccccertainly. Why not?" Globetrotter replied, smirking. "After all, you... have shown yourself to be a successful member of this institution. I suppose it's only fit to honor that with the occasional get-together."
"Oh, wonderful! Six o'clock then?" Pinky grinned, radiant as a firefly as he clapped his hands together rather childishly and bounced up and down on the balls of his feet.
"Yes. Six o'clock. Don't be late," Globetrotter warned, as he turned around to continue in his trek down the hall. He'd barely gotten another foot away from the excited Pinky, however, when he was called back once more.
"Oh! Brain?"
He looked back, a rather miffed expression pulling at his face. If that nitwit mispronounced his name one more time...
"Thank you," said Pinky in a soft voice as he hid his hands behind his back rather bashfully.
"Don't mention it," Globetrotter responded dryly. "It's just a lunch."
"No no. I mean... for the compliment. You really think I'm a success...?"
He said it so sincerely that Globetrotter almost felt sorry for him. Almost...
"Sure," lied his tongue. "You've certainly proved to be of... some worth."
In truth, it was only a partial fabrication. He had shown himself to be successful, if you considered babysitting a bunch of toddlers lucrative. In Globetrotter's eyes, the bumbling professor, if he was even laudable enough to be called that, was only popular from a superficial standpoint - he was likable, he was approachable, he was, as the girls disgustingly called him, "hot", and he was easy-going with children. In short, he was a celebrity, not a teacher. Whatever credentials he did obtain were worthless to someone of Globetrotter's stature; anyone who charmed their way into so highly prestigious of an establishment didn't deserve to hold a position there in the first place. He was enough of a threat to consider ousting due to his fame as a personality, but from an educational angle he posed no competition; at least, not in Globetrotter's eyes. And so he threw him a bone, more as a cover-up than anything, but he didn't expect him to take it so... consolingly. It made him a little uncomfortable.
"Thank you," Pinky said again, beaming. "You've... been the only one to tell me that. Well, at least here anyway. Eheh. Poit..."
Globetrotter frowned at the verbal tick. Few questioned it, aside from the occasional student who ventured to ask what "zort" or "narf" meant. Globetrotter simply took it as a medical condition and left it at that. He'd rather assume as such than entertain the thought that that sorry excuse of a teacher actually enjoyed spewing such nonsense, but, then again, he wouldn't be surprised.
He also frowned at the admittance, somewhat in surprise. Had none of the other teachers thrown him a kind word? Surely they must have. He knew they had, in fact, for he'd overheard their compliments, both in Pinky's presence and not. Most liked him, and those who didn't simply felt sorry for him. At least they'd had some sense to not outright call him a success, because he certainly was not that when it came to earning a place as a professional in the university.
"Just keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure you'll be fine," he spat, perhaps a little too harshly. Pinky noticed not. "You've undoubtedly shown yourself to be popular."
"Oh, not as popular as you, Brain! I'm sure you're still one of the best teachers in the whole school!"
At this, Globetrotter smiled.
"To that I flagrantly concur, my good fellow. To that, I flagrantly concur," grinned the science professor, and he said it so deviously that, if he'd uttered it to any other teacher, they would have flogged him where he stood.
4:47 PM
Globetrotter clicked on the little green banker's desk lamp that sat on his table. It cast a dim, yellow glow across the mahogany surface, illuminating papers, calculators, a coffee mug, and a gel pen - an expensive one. Rolling in the combination to the lock on his briefcase, he pushed in on the lock buttons, to which the case satisfyingly clicked open. Out of it he pulled: a pair of gloves, some odd-looking tools, a computer chip, a bottle of Aspirin, and a very small, round device that appeared to be magnetic in construction. Indeed, from an outsider's perspective, it looked to be nothing more than one of those tiny black magnets that one stuck to their fridge to pin up such things as receipts and shopping lists. Quite unassuming.
The middle-aged mouse laid out the chip, magnet, and tools, pulled on his gloves with a sharp snap, and got to work. For twenty minutes he tinkered with the device. It was delicate work, requiring much precision, but he reveled in it. Occasionally, his ponderings wandered to, of all things, Ronald Pinkus - how quixotic he was; how precariously he'd climbed up that rickety ladder. Shame he didn't break his neck, Globetrotter thought. Would have made my job much easier...
At 5:10 PM, he stood up from his chair, learned towards his desk lamp, and, with the little magnet pinched between his fingers, held it up to the lamp.
Snap.
It attached to the lamp's outer surface as if it was made to rest there. Globetrotter smirked. Pulling off the magnet, he opened up a side drawer and tested it out on a steel tape dispenser. It worked there, too. The magnet hugged it tightly. Globetrotter pulled it off, nodded satisfactorily, and pocketed it. Of course, this was only half of the test. It would only prove itself after applied.
"Oh, you beautiful little Polarizer," he mumbled fondly, actually kissing the device as he held it securely between his fingers. "Make me proud!"
6:05 PM
He was late. Of course he was late.
Globetrotter tapped his fingers on a cafeteria table impatiently, checking his watch every now and then, even though there was a clock literally right above him, attached to a pole near the entrance of the meeting area. If there was anything that boiled his bottles more than almost anything else, it was tardiness. There was no excuse for irresponsibility.
The cafeteria was completely devoid of life, save for a few straggling servers behind the counter, the janitors, Jak and Gus, and Globetrotter himself. One thing rather noteworthy, if not a tad bit odd, about Acme School of Arts and Sciences was that all classes generally ended at 5:00 PM. The founder of the university had been strict about the doors closing early so as both school personnel and students had ample time to spend in the evenings with their family and friends, as well as have extra time to commit to homework. It was a rule that was still upheld to this day. Some professors, of course, still stayed past "curfew", mostly to attend to extra duties and grading during the quiet evenings, and even then none of them, save for Globetrotter, and now Pinky, ever lingered past 6:00 PM. The one exception was the theater kids - their rehearsals sometimes went until 7:00 or even 8:00 PM. It was the only reason the cafeteria stayed open until 7:00, and even then it was rare to find anyone at a table this late.
Globetrotter welcomed the silence, of course. It was a time for pondering; a time for planning. But he had no patience for late-comers.
He had half a mind to just get up and leave right then and there when in swooped the Trozologist, waving as he headed in a rush towards his cafe buddy.
"Phew! So sorry I'm late, Brain!" he sighed, flopping down into a chair, a bit too close for Globetrotter's liking. He scooted to the side a few paces. "Mrs. Brisby and I got to talking about cooking and, well, the time just ran away with me! Ha-ha! Zort!"
"Yes... I'm sure it did," Globetrotter groaned, not at all amused. "Are you going to refresh yourself?" he asked. He was already on his third cup of coffee and about to get primed for a fourth.
Pinky looked around at this, concerned, before focusing his attention back on Globetrotter.
"Um... In public, Brain?"
Globetrotter's response was a deep, planted facepalm. What an absolute boob.
"The drinks, you ignoramus. The drinks! Are you doing to get a drink?!"
"Pfff. Well, why didn't you say so, Brain?" Pinky chuckled, rolling his eyes and standing right back up again. "Oh! I almost forgot. This is for you."
And he set down in front of Globetrotter a very pretty, very lovingly wrapped little present that, somehow, he hadn't noticed before. He stared at it rather worriedly, as if it might explode.
"Well, go ahead, silly!" Pinky encouraged him, nudging him forward with a nod of the head.
"Th-Thank you," Globetrotter said, not quite sure how to respond. He unwrapped it with delicate fingers, loosening first the decorative red bow tied about the box, then carefully undoing the rose-patterned ivory paper underneath. Inside was a dark green box with a lid on it. He slipped off the lid, peered inside, and pulled out...
"For you!" Pinky exclaimed happily. "Do you like it?"
It was a black coffee mug, with the words 'Best Teacher Ever!' written in white upon the front. It was quite a nice mug, despite the ridiculous phrase - snug in his hands and smooth to the touch. He was equal parts flattered that Pinky had recognized his fondness for coffee and embarrassed that it was that apparent.
"Thank you...," he answered awkwardly. He'd probably have to blot out the text later. Being associated with anything that generic churned his stomach. But he did like the mug. "I... needed a new one."
"Now you can use it with your new coffee maker!"
"You bought that for me...?"
"Of course! Who else would I buy it for?" blurted out Pinky, rolling his eyes. "I mean, everyone can use it, but... I ordered it for you really."
To this, Globetrotter could only stare disbelievingly. He swallowed thickly. What... was with this mouse?! Buying him a mug. Saying he made him less lonely at night. Ordering a coffee maker just so he could enjoy his days a bit more? No one was this nice. Surely, there was some ulterior motive.
"What's the catch...?" he asked, looking serious. There was always a catch. Always.
"Catch, Brain?" inquired Pinky, cocking his head in confusion. "Um... I haven't caught anything lately, Brain. Unless you count this fish," he said, and he pulled out of his pocket an actual, live minnow in a small jar filled with water. "Hellooooo, Jerry!" said Pinky... to the fish. "I caught him in the lake this morning! Still need to buy him a tank, though. Don't I, Jerry?"
Globetrotter simply stared at him, nonplussed, his mouth hanging open a little.
"Go on! Back you go!" said Pinky, tucking the little minnow back into his pocket and smiling at Globetrotter happily as if he hadn't just pulled a live fish out of his coat. "Oh! That's right. Drinks! Aren't you going to get yours, Brain?"
And off he trotted, heading in the direction of the cafeteria to grab, as usual, an odd assortment of foods and a drink. Globetrotter nervously looked behind him at Pinky, as if he might set fire to something... or pull a bazooka out of his pants... or... something. At this point, he didn't know what to expect from this mouse, and he wasn't sure he wanted to. Perhaps he was biting off more than he could chew...
But no. He shook his head at the thought. Pinkus was simply an idiot. A kind... thoughtful... very sweet idiot... But an idiot nonetheless. And no amount of good deeds was going to stop him in his plot. Nevertheless, he supposed it wouldn't hurt to at least try out the mug. He highly doubted it was bugged.
One mug of coffee, and a tray of assorted foods... plus a cup of Sprite, later, and Pinkus and Globetrotter were back at the table, the former laden down with treats, the latter content with his single, fourth serving of Italian Roast. Pinky helped himself eagerly to a sprinkle doughnut, offering Globetrotter a bite as he chewed happily.
"No, thank you. Bad for my... thighs," Globetrotter uttered lamely.
Pinky shrugged and finished off the tasty confection before diving into another. Globetrotter blew on his coffee before taking a tentative sip. It was good. Rich, flavorful, with a bite at its closure. And his lips conformed nicely about the mug. Yes, he liked this mug. Not that he'd ever say that out loud or anything.
For once, Pinky wasn't talking; so preoccupied with a sugar doughnut was he. Normally, Globetrotter would have welcomed this silence, but he'd gotten so used to Pinky always being a chatterbox whenever he was around him (which, admittedly, wasn't terribly often) that he felt... a little uncomfortable not making conversation, strangely.
"So, um...," he began, in a lame attempt to deaden the silence. "What is your opinion on asymptotic analysis?"
"Hm?" Pinky inquired, eyes wide and cheeks bulging with a mouthful of doughnut as he smiled puffily at Globetrotter.
Too complicated. He's not going to understand that, you moron. Globetrotter floundered. He wasn't good at this. Small talk was not one of his strong points.
"Um... chaos theory?"
Pinky swallowed.
"Ohhh! You mean like in Jurassic Park?"
"What?"
"Well, that's what Ian Malcolm always talked about. Chaos theory! Although, personally, I liked Ellie Sattler more. Laura Dern is such a good actress and I loved her in Rambling Rose! She was actually Spielberg's first choice for the role in Jurassic Park, did you know?"
He said all this as he grabbed a bottle of ketchup and mustard each and squirted their contents all over a hotdog he'd set in a bun. At the word "such" he'd given a very feminine wave of the hand that Globetrotter highly disapproved of.
"I did not know," Globetrotter replied, taking a dainty sip of his coffee.
"She also auditioned for the role of Clarice in Silence of the Lambs, but I really do think Jodie Foster was a more appropriate selection. She's quite versatile. I heard she's looking to get back into the directing field soon..."
And on and on he went, sometimes speaking between bites, other times continuing on with a mouthful of food, his thick mumbles so incomprehensible that Globetrotter could only catch a "George Lucas" here and a "Princess Bride" there. It was downright humorous to him that this mouse, who knew so little about the subjects upon which this school was founded, was incredibly versed in filmography. Then again, he supposed it was only appropriate, considering the flamboyant showman that he was. And this was a school of sciences and arts, after all. But then, why hadn't he majored in theater? Trozology, whatever it was, seemed a waste of time.
"You seem to know a lot about cinema," Globetrotter voiced, finally able to find a break in the conversation after a solid ten minutes. The entire time, he'd covertly tried to roam about Pinky's attire with a sharp gaze, looking for anything magnetic he could possibly attach his device to. He eventually settled on Pinky's name tag. Of course. They all sported one, and they were made of metal. If he could somehow stick it on the back...
"Oh, I love the arts!" Pinky responded, clasping his hands together and batting his eyes dreamily. "All the movie magic and the passion and the creativity...!"
"Pinky, might I... see your badge for a moment? Only there's a nasty blemish on it. I... certainly wouldn't want you to walk around with a dirty tag."
"Why, thank you, Brain. How thoughtful of you."
And he unpinned his badge from his coat and handed it to Globetrotter. It was as simple as that.
"So, if you're so into the arts then why didn't you become an actor... or something?" Globetrotter stalled, as his right hand poked about in his jacket pocket to ensure that the magnet was still there. It was. He plucked it out, hiding it in his right hand as he pretended to rub at a spot on the badge with the end of his coat, surreptitiously planting the little magnet on the back of the badge as he did so. Piece of cake.
"Oh, I was going to, Brain! Narf! But I found something else I love much more...," he said, resting a cheek on his left hand as he gazed off into space, a toothy grin curled about his visage.
"Trozology?"
"Mmhm."
"What is Trozology?"
"You don't know, Brain? It's the study o-"
But at that moment, the cafeteria doors burst open to reveal a very angry set indeed: Dex, followed close behind by Maisy, Marvell, Gadget, Tillie, and one other boy rat whom Pinky didn't recognize. Dex and Maisy were shouting at the top of their lungs, oblivious to the few stragglers lingering about the room.
"-never messed with your business before! I know it's important to you. Why do you think I gave you your space?!" Dex yelled at his sister, a plethora of expressive hand gestures complementing his outburst.
"You never 'gave me my space', Dex. You're always hanging out after my classes; checking in on me when I'm trying to relax. How is that 'giving me my space'?!"
"Oh, man. Um. Lemme think. Maybe it's because... I care about you?!"
"Maisy, come on. He's taken a lot of hits for you," Gadget said, stepping forward.
"Oh, like, grade hits? Detention? You'd know a lot about hits, wouldn't you, Dex?"
"Girl, come on. Maisy's right," Marvell uttered, also stepping up. "You're laying it on too hard."
"YOU WANNA TAKE HER SIDE?! THEN FINE! I know you care more about her and Dex than me!"
"I didn't say that!" Marvell countered, looking hurt.
"This is about Mom, isn't it?! You don't know ANYTHING about taking hits!" Maisy practically screamed at Dex, advancing towards him with the ferocity of a tyrannosaurus, causing him to back up with every step she took.
None of them had yet seen Globetrotter and Pinky off to the side, and the janitors stayed as silent as the mice they were from a shaded corner. Pinky looked on the verge of standing up to intervene, but Globetrotter, surprisingly, put out a hand to stop him.
"It's not about Mom! It's... about everything!" Dex choked out. "And don't tell me that I don't know anything about taking hits, Maisy! You don't know the half of it..."
"The hell do you mean about that?" Maisy softened up, but only for a moment. She turned swiftly 'round to glare at her friends. "THE HELL DOES HE MEAN?!"
All of them shuffled about awkwardly, looking embarrassed. Gadget rubbed at her arm, and Marvell bit her lip suspiciously, gaze firmly planted to the floor. But the boy rat looked the most broken of all, and it was him that Maisy targeted.
"What does he mean, Red?"
Red directed his eyes downward, his ears appropriately turning the color of his namesake.
"What does he mean?!"
"I... I promised I wouldn't say, Mais!" he sputtered out, a paw coming up to rub at a sore spot on the back of his head.
"Dex?!" Maisy spat, rounding back on her brother.
"You attend this school just as much as me. You should be smart enough to figure it out," Dex replied, and with that he walked off towards an exit on the opposite end of the cafeteria, purposely ignoring his sister's pleas.
"Tell me what you mean, Dex!"
No response.
"DEX! Tell me what you mean!"
It was as she started crying that Pinky finally made his presence known... via slipping off his chair. It clattered down with its owner, the noise echoing loudly off the walls and pulling every eye in the vicinity towards him. Globetrotter jumped and glared at Pinky.
"O-Oh! Ummm...," Pinky stammered, standing up in a flash and ringing the end of his coat in his hands awkwardly.
Maisy's cheeks turned bright pink. She full out burst into tears as she turned tail and ran back into the hallway, her friends casting one last embarrassed look at the teachers before sprinting off after her, occasionally calling her name.
Pinky swallowed thickly. Globetrotter sighed, long and exhausted, through his nose.
"Why did you stop me, Brain?" Pinky queried, dusting off his coat and propping his chair back up.
"Because sometimes people just need to talk, Pinky," Globetrotter said, slapping the now tampered with badge back on the table for Pinky to take, which he did, pining it on his jacket, none the wiser.
"I don't think that was talking, Brain. That was more like... screaming."
"Well, people need to scream sometimes, too," Globetrotter nipped, draining the last bits of coffee from his mug and heading towards the sink to wash it out. Pinky followed him, demolished tray of food and empty soda cup in hand.
"Have you screamed sometimes, Brain...?" Pinky asked delicately as he tossed his trash and replaced the tray.
Globetrotter didn't answer right away. He looked thoughtful as he washed out his cup.
"Sometimes...," he finally responded, shaking the mug to rid it of the last few droplets of water.
"Were you hurting then, too?"
Another pause. Globetrotter stepped over to a paper towel dispenser, ripping off a piece to dry his cup with.
"Yes."
Globetrotter looked curiously over at Pinky, whose ears had drooped so low that he looked more like a lop rabbit than a mouse. He actually made to step forward, but Globetrotter, already smelling some form of physical affection, backed up, a hand raised in protest.
"Save your pity."
"I'm sorry, Brain. Poit..," Pinky whispered, and he truly was.
"It's fine," replied Globetrotter.
There was an awkward pause, in which neither of them spoke for a solid ten seconds, Globetrotter running a finger along the ring of his new mug, Pinky shuffling his feet uncomfortably.
"I... really should be going. Thank you for the mug. It's... good," Globetrotter ended lamely.
"You're welcome," Pinky said, the smallest of smiles crawling up his face. "Thank you, too."
"For what?"
"Sitting with me."
Globetrotter blinked. It was as if heaven itself was shining a spotlight on him, throwing every opportunity at him to find compassion for this mouse and feel guilty for what he'd done. Well, they'll have to try harder than that, Globetrotter thought. He wasn't going to relent that easily. And, in the most monotonous tone he could muster, he responded with a simple:
"Mmhm."
But the smile stayed. It took a lot, it seemed, to completely break Pinky.
October 7th, 1993 - 4:02 PM
One of the first things Globetrotter noticed about his brilliant Polarizer, once it had been planted on Pinky, was that... it didn't work. At least, it didn't work on children. Said device had one purpose and one purpose only: redirection. From it a frequency was emitted that affected anyone within five feet of Pinky telepathically. They would be suddenly and inexplicably hit with a desire to preoccupy themselves with some other activity and, as such, never engage in interaction with Pinky for more than a few seconds. As long as he wore the name tag, he couldn't be touched. Poof. His newfound popularity would come to a screeching halt, no one would converse with him ever again, and he'd have no choice but to leave the school, friendless and jobless, leaving Globetrotter back on top as the most notable individual in the school. Or, at least, that's what it was supposed to do.
But it didn't. As usual, Olivia, Timothy, and Cynthia, along with Teresa and one or two others, were at Pinky's classroom at four o'clock sharp the next day, Evinrude arriving twenty minutes later (for the snacks only, of course). The day after that there was an actual line of kids standing outside the door fifteen minutes early, waiting to get in, and the day after that the line was even longer. Globetrotter could only assume that there was some fault in the hardware. But he'd tested it out on himself an hour before he'd met up with Pinky and it had worked just fine then. What was the problem? Perhaps it simply just didn't work on kids, for some reason. But that couldn't be right... Teresa was one of the college students in the school and it didn't work on her either, nor on any teacher that approached Pinky. Strange. He'd have to get the device back and tinker with it some more, he supposed. Not that that would be much of a problem. Considering how easily he'd obtained it last time, snatching it back, he figured, would be a breeze. He decided to simply wait for the right opportunity and nab it back.
Whereas Globetrotter's experiment had failed, Olivia's had gone above and beyond; in fact, it had practically skyrocketed. She now had a total of 271 signatures on her petition, an overwhelming success, in the eyes of her and Pinky. Pinky said that they had enough to approach the principal with. There was just one little problem: to ask the principal to pass their petition, that meant they had to, well, talk to the principal, something no one ever wanted to do. There was only one person in the entire school who wasn't afraid of him, that person being Globetrotter, and even he avoided the angry little maniac as much as possible. Pinky wasn't entirely averse to approaching the headmaster, mainly because he'd simply never met the guy, although there was still a lingering feeling of trepidation due to how unfavorable people talked about him. But he wasn't going to let that stop him. Olivia's petition needed to be signed off on, and he was going to do everything in his power to see that it did!
And so, that afternoon, directly after class, the hallways of Acme School of Arts and Sciences found Pinky marching down the hallway, Olivia's hand in his, as he and his student headed for the principal's office.
They stopped outside the door. Was it just their imagination, or did it feel a bit colder down this part of the hallway? It was a rather darker portion of the school - not as many offices and classes were down here, some of the lights had blown out and hadn't yet been fixed, and the office was situated right in the center of a long strip of hallway, making it the furthest away from the windows. The place simply had a... foreboding atmosphere about it.
Olivia nuzzled closer to Pinky. He smiled and squeezed her hand comfortingly.
"Put on your helmet, Olivia."
"Like on our imaginary trip into the caves?" Olivia whispered, wide-eyed.
"Mmhm."
Resolute, Olivia let go of Pinky's hand and situated her tam-o-shanter more snuggly atop her head.
"Okay. Let's go fight the dragon," said she.
Pinky knocked on the door - once, twice, three times...
"Come in..," came a voice from the other side. It sounded pleasant enough, but there was something a little... off about it; a sprinkle of deviance behind the honey-suckle tone.
Pinky opened the door.
The inside of this room was, if possible, even darker than the hallway. Like Globetrotter, the headmaster owned a green banker's desk lamp, albeit two instead of one, each on opposite sides of a dark black table, and it served as the only lighting in the entire vicinity. Besides a plethora of books encased in rich wooden shelving behind him, a couple of comfortable chairs spread about, a trash can, a blackboard, and a television in a far corner opposite the principal, the room was surprisingly plain. The most interesting thing about it was a standing globe of the world, one of those expensive ones that twirled around and had little red lights on it that clicked on to highlight various hot spots on the map as you spun it. Olivia liked those. She had an overwhelming desire to spin it, but was too scared to ask, especially seeing as the globe was literally right next to the principal's desk. The further away she could be from him, the better.
"Come in, my children, come in! Oh, do come closer to the desk. You expect an old hamster such as myself to see you properly from that far away?" the principal beckoned. He sat in a very tall, very black chair behind the ebony desk. Unlike the uniform layout of the room, he appeared quite relaxed. A little too relaxed, perhaps. He was reclining, bare feet up on the desk, and decked out in a comfortable-looking brown suit and pants set, complete with checkered tie. He looked as if he ruled the world, and the smirk on his face as he smoked from a thick, piping cigar only cemented this.
Pinky didn't think he looked that old - fifty, maybe? Around the same age as Brain. But he also didn't want to be disrespectful, and so he moved tepidly forward, his steps more of a shuffle than a walk, Olivia sliding along a couple paces behind him. Now that she was actually in the room, she didn't feel quite so brave.
"I hear you've arranged something of a party," the golden hamster addressed Pinky. "I must say, I'm quite intrigued. We haven't had an employees-only gathering in four years! I'm impressed you managed to pull it off."
"Th-Thank you, Headmaster," Pinky mumbled.
"Please. Call me Snowball," the hamster said gentlemanly, holding up a hand. "No need for formalities. And who might you be?" he asked Olivia, leaning over a little, the better to see her.
"O-O-Olivia, Sir."
"Olivia. You know, the name 'Olivia' comes from the word 'olive'. The olive tree is a symbol of peace and fertility, something we all hope to breed in this school. Fertile minds; obedient pupils. Wouldn't you agree?"
"Y-Yes, Sir," Olivia agreed, although, privately, she didn't understand what he was getting at at all.
"Please, Mr. Snowball, we've come to you with a request," Pinky interrupted, holding up the petition.
"Oh?" Snowball answered, cocking an eyebrow as he took a long, steady swig from the cigar and blew out an impressive ring. Olivia watched it float around the room, intrigued despite herself. It collided upon the chalkboard and disintegrated in a soft huff.
"It's a petition for a new baseball stadium," Pinky continued, holding out the paper for Snowball to take, which he did, looking it over without much interest. "We got two hundred and seventy-one signatures! I... hope that's enough?"
Only now did Pinky realize that he was twisting his tail in his paws something terrible, leaving little creases in it. He stopped immediately. Olivia had been biting at her fingernails. She also stopped as soon as she saw Pinky do so.
"So... you want me... to sign off on this?" Snowball asked, tossing a rather deadpan look in Pinky's direction.
Pinky gulped.
"Is that... all right? A lot of your students would love to have this back on the grounds! You'd be able to develop a team to compete with the other schools. We could win trophies and good sports reputation!"
"And it would be a P.E. class to add to your curriculum," Olivia added. Pinky smiled at her, impressed.
"Yes! Absolutely!"
"Hmph. You think people would go for this drivel? Two hundred signatures from a pool of three thousand is hardly enough to turn heads," he retorted, setting the petition down on the desk and pushing it towards them so hard that Pinky was thankful he was able to catch it before it clattered to the floor. "I must say, I'm not very impressed."
"B-But, it would do wonders for the school!" Pinky pleaded. "And Miss Olivia here worked so hard to get all the signatures. Didn't you, Olivia?"
"Yes, I did," she admitted, suddenly a bit bolder. Fight the dragon. Fight the dragon. "And you shouldn't be so retorshical. All the other schools have sports teams!"
Pinky gave her a side glance. Too far. Too far...
Olivia licked her lips, in-taking a deep breath for her next burn.
"I think you're scared."
And she put her hands on her hips, the better to complete the effect.
Pinky bit his lip. Olivia...
Snowball frowned. Slipping his feet off the table, he leaned fully forward over his desk, his face mere feet from Olivia's, and growled into her face: "I'm scared of nothing."
Olivia had closed one eye at this, the better to block out the dragon's harsh stare... and rancid breath. He even smoked like a dragon. But she stayed resolute.
"Then prove it!"
"Um... M-Mr. Snowball, if I may...?" Pinky barged in, desperate to fan the flames. It was bad enough she'd poked the dragon's eye in his own cave. They didn't need the fire, too. "Perhaps there's something... we could do for you in return? As a trade?"
That settled Snowball a little. He sat back in his chair, slightly amused.
"Hmph. What could you possibly offer to me?"
"Well, um... A special spot in the party, perhaps? Or a gift...? N-Narf..."
"No...," Snowball replied, waving it off and taking another smoke from his cigar.
"A... ticket to Disneyland?" Olivia offered helpfully.
"Pass."
"A... um... coupon for the world's biggest che-"
"Wait... Wait," Snowball said, cutting Pinky off. "The party, you said... Who's coming to the party?"
"Oh, um, everyone!" Pinky smiled nervously.
"Almost everyone...," Olivia mumbled under her breath, crossing her arms indignantly, but Pinky gave her a look that very clearly told her to shush or else.
"Will Globetrotter be there?"
"You mean Brain?" Pinky asked. "Oh... No, I don't think so. I invited him, but he... said he wouldn't make it."
"Brain? You call him Brain? Ha-ha!" Snowball laughed, actually clutching his chest as he reeled back in his chair. "Ha-ha! Ohhh, that's rich. I'll bet he just loves that."
Poor Pinky and Olivia didn't know what to say. They tried to laugh along, but it only came out sounding unbearably awkward, and so they stopped.
"My good fellow, you've convinced me. I'll sign your insipid little petition."
"Really?!" Pinky and Olivia bother spurted out at once, hardly daring to believe their ears.
"On one condition: Get dear 'Brain' to come to the party. It's been an age since I've seen him, you see, and I'd love to... catch up on things, as it were. Do that, and your stadium is as good as built."
Pinky and Olivia looked at one another. Convincing the most stubborn individual in the school to attend Pinky's party when he clearly wasn't interested wasn't going to be easy, but they'd come this far. Surely, they could try again... and again, if they had to? Wasn't the school worth that? Weren't the students worth it?
"Do we have a deal?" Snowball pressed them, a nasty smirk upon his sour face.
Olivia nodded at Pinky. Pinky nodded back. He looked Snowball straight in the eye.
"Deal," said Pinky.
"Deal," said Olivia.
And they shook hands with him, Snowball squeezing down a little too tightly.
"We have a bargain. I look forward to seeing him at the party. Hm hm. Brain. Ha! Oh, how positively affluent."
And they left him as such, cigar in hand, laughing his head off like an absolute maniac.
7:24 PM
Dr. Brian T. Globetrotter snapped shut his weighted briefcase. He exited his classroom, shut the door, and locked it, as he always did. Another night; another opportunity to work in the lab. While he hadn't managed to get his magnet back, he'd certainly attended to other projects that required his attention. There was one he'd been quite eager to finish for some weeks. Tonight was the night.
Professor Ronald Pinkus opened his classroom door, but did not exit. Students first. A young boy mole stepped out of the classroom, his face still a little wet, but a smile tickling his face. He shuffled out into the hallway, Pinky and Olivia following him.
"Thank you, Mr. Pinkus," the diminutive mole said gratefully. "I wish my mom would listen to me like you do."
"Think nothing of it. Come by whenever you need to talk, okay?"
"Thank you, Sir." And, shyly, he stepped up and hugged him round the middle. "Please don't ever leave."
"I won't if I can help it, Toby," promised Pinky. "Promise."
"Come on, Toby! We're late!" Olivia kindly signaled. At the end of the hallway, Mrs. Judson stood waiting for them.
With a last squeeze, Toby parted and waved good-bye, keeping his eyes on Pinky until he turned the corner and was lost from sight. Pinky continued waving, even after his student had disappeared. He smiled warmly and sighed, deeply and satisfactorily. Closing his classroom door, he walked down the hallway... and stopped as he heard the familiar ding of the elevator. He turned in the direction of the noise, blinking. This was the fourth time he'd caught Brain staying up late to do... whatever it was he did behind that wall in the basement. He'd been too nervous to follow him the last couple of times, seeing as he'd almost been caught initially, but... perhaps it couldn't hurt to take another peek?
Two minutes later saw a pair of loosely-tied sneakers tip-toeing down the stairwell, heading covertly in the direction of the basement. He stuck his nose around the corner. No sign of him. Already, Globetrotter had gained access into the secret lab, oblivious to the intruder whom had followed him to his private dungeon. Carefully, he stepped towards the wall where he knew a hidden panel rested. Had he been a bit more observant, he might have noticed something following him this time - a camera, set high up in a far corner of the hall, small enough to not draw too much attention to itself, yet following his every move all the same.
Pinky pressed an ear up to the wall, listening intently. He didn't even bother with the panel this time; he knew it wouldn't open for him. Sure enough, he heard clinking and clanking and the occasional typing of what sounded like computer keys echoing through the room beyond, barely audible, but still within his range of hearing.
"Naughty naughty, Brain," Pinky whispered to himself. "What are you doing back there...?"
Suddenly, the noises stopped. No clinking. No clanking. No typing of keys. Pinky froze. He pressed his ear ever harder to the door. Last time this happened, he'd been able to pick up the tell-tale sign of footsteps heading for the door, but this time he heard nothing. Perhaps Brain had sat down to read a book? He almost stopped breathing, listening as hard as he possibly could...
HISSSS!
Without any warning, the door slid open, Pinky giving way as he fell to the ground, one half of his body inside the lab, the other half still laying out in the basement hallway.
"AH-HA! So it was you!" Globetrotter exclaimed, his anger unmistakable as he grabbed Pinky by the shirt collar and, with surprising strength, tossed him full on into the room, the door sliding shut behind him.
Pinky shuffled up onto his feet in haste and backed up towards the opposite wall, slamming into a metallic shelving unit full of jars, beakers, and other unusual things he couldn't put a name to. Globetrotter was advancing towards him, looking positively livid as he brandished what looked to be an X-Acto knife at him. Forget Snowball. He could handle that. This was terrifying.
"Completely innocent. HA! I knew you were up to something as soon as I saw that pencil outside my door last week. What are you after? What concoction of mine have you been looking to pilfer?!"
"I-I..! N-Nothing, Brain! I didn't even know about this place until last week! Honest!"
"HA! A likely tale. For all I know, you could have known about this lab since you got here; perhaps even applied because of your knowledge of this facility. Are you a spy? A NASA scientist? Who are you working for?!"
By this point, he was full on in Pinky's personal bubble, a hand practically choking Pinky by the tie as he brandished the X-Acto knife under his chin threateningly. Poor Pinky was near tears.
"I'm not a spy! Honest, Brain! Really I'm not! Please don't turn me into mince meat!" he begged, holding his hands up to shield his face as best he could, a near impossibility, seeing as Globetrotter was so invasive. Nevertheless, the rabid teacher loosened his grip a little.
"You swear you didn't know about this place until recently...?"
"Mmhm!" Pinky nodded fervently, his face full on wet, eyes shut tight as he tried, and failed, to keep the tears at bay.
"Hmph..." Brain conceded, grip loosening further. Well... fine. But don't touch anything! Understand?"
Another fervent nod, eyes still closed, and Globetrotter released him. Pinky clutched at his neck, gasping for breath as he rubbed at the spot where the tie had pulled on him. He rubbed at his eyes, the better to wipe away his pitiful tears.
"Wh-What is this place...?" he choked out, still catching his breath.
"My laboratory," Globetrotter replied stiffly, hopping into his computer chair and proceeding to continue in his voracious typing. "Don't touch anything."
Pinky nodded, even though Globetrotter couldn't see him. Don't touch anything. Already, he wanted very much to tickle the top of a very brown, very fuzzy-looking object sitting on a shelf near the entrance, but he honored Globetrotter's request. He didn't say he couldn't look at anything, however, and so Pinky looked, eyes wide in astonishment as he meandered about the strange facility.
It wasn't a terribly large area, but what he'd managed to fit inside of it was impressive. There were shelves of bottles, papers, strange electrical appliances, various scientific and artistic tools, rows and rows of books, and two computers, one of which Globetrotter was currently working at. A ghostly green glow hung from a double row of long lights recessed into the ceiling above, the emerald hue occasionally peppered with a soft, yellow light from a table lamp here or there. Even in this room Brain had to have his mahogany, it seemed, that being reserved for the bookshelf. But the most intriguing item in the room, by far, was a large, bubbling... something. It looked somewhat like a giant beaker, albeit a bit more bulbous, and with long tubes branching off here or there, like the stretched arms of a huge, metallic octopus. Inside bubbled some greenish concoction. Pinky wondered what it was, and tapped at the glass curiously.
"I said don't touch anything," Globetrotter warned without turning his head.
"Oh. Sorry...," Pinky apologized, taking a step back. "What is it?"
"It's for my latest plan."
"W-What plan is that, Brain?"
Brain sighed, pushed himself away from the desk, and stood up out of his rolling chair to stare at Pinky.
"If I tell you, you must solemnly swear not to spread a word about this to anyone," he breathed threateningly. If Pinky really was as big of an idiot as he appeared, he'd actually keep his mouth shut and not tell the authorities. Strangely, he was probably the only individual in the entire school whom he could trust to keep quiet. Knowing someone this daft had its perks, he supposed.
Pinky nodded and raised a hand, as if taking an oath.
"I promise, Brain!"
"Hmph. Fine. I'm planning... to take over the world!"
He said this in a flourish, hands raised in ecstasy. Pinky wouldn't have been surprised if lightning had shot out of nowhere at such a forward gesture. He'd never seen Brain this passionate before.
"The... whole world, Brain?" Pinky gasped, incredulous.
"Of course," the scientist replied, tucking his hands behind his back. "This Earth has been in a state of turmoil for years. With my genius intellect and general prowess, I'd be able to make it a better place - create a richer, more fulfilling existence for people to live in."
"Ohhhhhh! You mean like charity work! Right, Brain? Better places for people to live and all that? Good food; warm homes; happy little children playing in the yard with their puppies!" Pinky voiced, hands clasped together against his cheek as he grinned widely at the thought. "Oh! And better school systems! And no more people getting hurt. And plenty of money for everyone!"
"Why, yes, Pinky, that's... exactly what I'm talking about. With... the occasional adjustment here or there, of course."
"Like what?"
"Oh, you know... A specific rule set for people to abide by. Recognizing me as their leader. World peace. That sort of thing..."
"Sooooo... sponsorship then?"
"Um. Sure... If... that's what you want to see it as."
"Well, I think that's just wonderful, Brain!"
"Y-You do...?"
"Well, of course!" Pinky continued, prancing about the room now, not at all shy about toying with a test tube or a Newton's cradle. For once, Brain didn't stop him. "We all could use a better place to live in! Peace and love for everyone! That's what I teach every day, Brain."
"Do you?"
"Of course. If I'd known about this place earlier I would have supported you a long time ago! Although, I don't know why you have to hide it all down here. Don't you want everyone to know what good you're planning on doing for the Earth?" Pinky asked, shrugging confusedly.
"U-Uhm... Well, it has to be a secret. If anyone knew about this, they'd... probably try to stop me," Globetrotter fumbled, rubbing at the back of his neck.
"Why?"
"Well, you know... Taking over the world. It's... not exactly a normal thing to put on one's "to-do" list."
"Well, it should be!" Pinky retorted, hands on his hips. "If everyone was as kind as you the world would be a better place!"
Just then, Pinky gasped, struck with a sudden idea.
"What?" Brain asked, a touch worried.
"Brain! What if we keep it a secret until allllll of your plans are ready, and then we surprise everyone with a big, save-the-world party!"
"Ummm... S-Sure! That's... kind of what I had in mind, actually."
"Egad! It's brilliant! I'll handle all the party preparations when the time comes, don't worry. I'll get balloons and decorations and... OH! Cake! We have to have cake, Brain! But will two hundred cakes be enough to feed everyone?"
"Pinky...?" Brain asked tentatively. "You... promise you won't tell anyone about this, right?"
"Of course not, Brain," Pinky said matter-of-factly, waving a hand. "I mean, you did almost kill me back there, but now I see that you just didn't want to spoil the surprise!"
"So... no blabbing?"
"My lips are sealed, Brain," he promised, making a "zipping" motion across his mouth with his thumb and forefinger. "But only if you'll let me help!"
He meant it in jest, partially. Even if Brain said no, he still would honor his request to keep the secret a secret, but Brain took it literally. He sighed, facepalming. Positives and negatives, he supposed.
"All right. Fine. But just... stay out of the way as best you can, all right?"
"Promise!" Pinky swore, beaming. "Um... do you mind if I hang around here for a little while?"
Brain narrowed his eyes at him. Just because they were now technically partners in crime didn't mean that he wanted Pinky hanging around any longer than he needed to. Then again, it wasn't as if letting him stay a bit longer would hurt anything.
"Just as long as you keep your paws off my lab."
"Yippee!" Pinky exclaimed, jumping once up into the air before reengaging in deep exploration of the room.
Brain sighed, turned back around, and planted his caboose firmly back in the computer chair. Every now and then he'd pause in his typing to stare curiously at Pinky as he looked at everything in the lab, trying his darndest not to lift a finger as Globetrotter had asked. Brain rolled his eyes, finally consenting.
"Fine. You can touch the books. But be careful with them," he warned.
"Oh, thank you, Brain! I won't rip a page!"
"You'd better not...," Brain mumbled under his breath.
Pinky sifted through the books, eventually finding one he liked and sitting down cross-legged on the floor, such as a child might during reading time. Brain shook his head at this. A past conversation came to mind...
"You're also the only other person who's still around at night when I go home late. It... makes me feel a little less lonely."
He stared at Pinky once more, head cocked to the side questioningly, before turning back to his work. The lanky newcomer was, undoubtedly, an annoyance. He was oxymoronic, incredibly daft, and a thorn in Brain's side. Things hadn't been quite the same at the school since he'd arrived. He was a pest that eventually needed to be eradicated. And yet, as Brain sat there, listening to the soft turning of the pages behind him, with the occasional 'ooo' or 'ahhh' complimenting a particularly good part of the book, he had to admit that the presence of someone else in the room, someone kind and nonjudgmental and supportive, made him feel a little less lonely, too.
Author's Notes:
- My dad used to own (and probably still does) one of those big briefcases with the locking mechanisms on them. I always enjoyed watching him fiddle with the combination and pop open the case. Of course, now-a-days, briefcases are pretty much a thing of the past, but I still think about that big ol' thing and its locks sometimes.
- The line "... in public, Brain?" is a reference to a very similar quote from one of the original Pinky and the Brain episodes, in which Brain asks Pinky to do something simple and Pinky, misunderstanding, replies with: "Brain? In public?"
- Marvell is an original OC created by Black Geeky Girl, whom you can find on Twitter and Tumblr.
- The line "positively affluent" is a reference to a PatB-themed story of the same name on AO3 that also features Snowball. Please look it up and read it. It's awesome.
- The ending is, admittedly, a bit rushed, and I struggled with the subtext of the laboratory scene. I'm not certain how apparent it is or not, but, if you don't get what I'm going for, all the better I suppose, as you'll be just as surprised as Pinky in a future chapter.
- This is my favorite chapter so far. I had a blast composing this.
