luke fumbling in recruiting percy has to be one of his greatest failures. a beautiful thing the show does regarding luke and percy's relationship is building rapport between them through shared moments like settling into camp, eating meals together, but especially through swordfighting lessons. the swordfighting scene at the beginning of episode 8 not only reveals that percy and luke already share similar beliefs about the fear-based system the gods have cultivated, but it's clear the conversation stays with percy when he fights ares and later calls out zeus on his waning skills as a father and a king. however, luke's plan fell through the moment percy learned that the winged-shoes were meant to drag him to tartarus. not only that, but the shoes nearly killed grover, a friend percy cared for deeply. if nourishing loyalty and trust was the key to ensuring a partnership with percy, then it was luke's faulty planning, arrogance, and impatience that cost him the greatest ally he could ask for.

There's something about the idea that gods change according to belief.
There's something about Aphrodite having to drop her sword and shield and pick up a makeup brush and mirror.
There's something about Zeus's Crown overtaking his hospitality.
There's something about Ares being scrubbed of his care with blood.
There's something about Hera's care being thrown in her face because of her cruelty.
There's something about Dionysus having his artistry and wildness ripped away from him due to his partying.
There's something about Hermes losing his chthonic connections in favour of his trickery.
There's something about Demeter surrendering her fierce, protective love and power over life and death to become a hysterical mother.
There's something about Athena's femininity and protectiveness fading to make her grip her spear and grasp her thoughts tighter.
There's something about Hephaestus forgetting his creations' finesse and intricacy to focus on pure function and efficiency.
There's something about Poseidon's earth-shaking rage that causes waves to rise above the tallest mountains being reduced to occasional vengefulness.
There's something about Apollo giving up his herds and truth and wisdom and plagues to speak the future and heal the wounded through song.
There's something about Artemis turning from children and childbirth to fixate on the wilderness.
There's something about the idea that gods change according to belief.

I’ve been thinking about how after calypso mockingly told Odysseus that goddesses can’t die he spent the next seven years in a hopeless funk where his only real option was repeatedly to attempt suicide so i imagine that when Poseidon said the same thing, years of pent up rage snapped into a realization that that was also a drawback for the gods
Because if we think about it. He drew his sword on calypso immediately so it’s not as if her being a woman mattered, because she openly declared her intent to take his autonomy away, he was absolutely willing to kill her. It’s only her revealing her godliness that he essentially was struck w fear and despair. He couldn’t kill her, but in focusing on that aspect only, he negated to consider that he could also force her to let him go.
It wasn’t until Poseidon repeated her taunt that it fell into place. Because in the animatic, Odysseus is essentially stuck in a small rock island WITH Poseidon, and it’s very likely that it would’ve been the god’s intent to keep him there forever. With or without Poseidon in a weakened state, his options were once again to stay marooned.
Basically I fully believed it triggered him. He was essentially where he started. On an island with a god who can’t die and won’t let him go. But 600 strike solidified in him that being pacific with gods of all levels was never going to get him home.

AU where Hermes really IS the one who fights for Odysseus and is not the one who shows up for "Dangerous."
In this version- it turns out that when Athena said goodbye, she meant it. She can't (or won't) help Odysseus after the cyclops incident, leaving him to fend for himself.
But Athena isn't the only divine being whose gifts Odysseus partakes in. During the Circe Saga, Hermes fills the void of Athena, choosing to aid his great-grandson by fostering his unique skills of wit and trickery. (It's like wisdom-- just faster, darling! And don't be afraid to have a bit of fun with it.)
After the Thunder Saga, Hermes loses track of Odysseus, however, and spends time intermittently searching for him. When he finds him with Calypso, he decides he'll steal him away from the island, but is stopped by a barrier created by Zeus that prevents anyone (even a god) from entering, forcing him to confront his father directly. Hermes uses his cleverness to convince the other gods during "God Games"-- but, this time, he'll also have to convince Athena. (She would possibly take Ares' place in the song or Aphrodite, so that Hermes would have to face both gods of war). (Instead of tell your "lover" something, the line would change to tell your "brother" most likely.)
While successful with the others, Hermes, unfortunately, isn't quick enough to avoid getting thunderbolted by his father, though. The saga ends with bloody feathers floating to the ground...
Cut to the Vengeance saga where Athena takes Hermes' place to release Odysseus and sings "Dangerous" with a few obvious changes that cater to her teachings of strategy, etc. Odysseus is grateful, but confused about why Athena has come back to help him after leaving so many years ago. She tells him she didn't come back for him, however....

Sometimes your Mental Illness™ is kicking your ass and all you can do is offer the first hot, non-leftover meal you managed to prep in the day at 10:30 pm to Apollo & ask for help getting to *and* getting through your appointment tomorrow and that's okay

Came back from the beach and I cannot stop thankingLady Aphrodite for the beautiful experience today. I don't really enjoy the beach for many reasons, but today was a good day. It's not a great day because my only requirement for it is to find a nice seashell, and I just found common rocks (all rocks are cool, but these are not as cool).
I felt quite beautiful and comfortable today, and thanks to Lord Poseidon for the amazing state of the sea and Lord Zeus for the lovely weather, it was just perfect. I wanna add a little thanks to Lord Hermes for the safe travel to the beach!
I also saw a small sign from Lord Ares so it made me feel he was there watching me.
And I have been seeing some pieces of media recently that feature Lord Lucifer's sigil, which is a nice coincidence too. Also a lot of dead animals and bugs today? Love Lord Beelzebub.
That's it that's the post just wanted to thank them for everything ❤️
