thoughts on the hp epilogue? i kinda hate it and don't really consider it canon but im curious what your opinion is.

I'm not a fan, I usually disregard it.

There are things I don't like about the epilogue and things I don't mind. My dislikes range from the usual suspects like Harry naming his son "Albus Severus" to some deeper things actually.

This ended up a bit long, so I'll add a read more here.

So, I'm going to divide this into two parts, things written in the epilogue itself, and the supposedly canon future of the characters that bother me, but technically it's not in the books and therefore easier to ignore.

Thoughts about the epilogue itself:

I actually don't mind the character dynamics between the golden trio in the epilogue, I actually like some of them (like Ron's comments about his muggle driver's test). I like Neville becoming an Herbology professor as well.

Now, for what I don't like...

The existence of the epilogue as a whole bothers me. I don't feel like the books necessarily needed one, at least not one like this. I would've preferred it to end on a hopeful note of rebuilding and changing house stereotypes and muggleborn treatment so there won't be another Voldemort. Not just jump 19 years later to show a society that didn't change any of its inherent problems (more on that in the next section). But the fact Albus is concerned about being sorted into Slytherin shows me nothing changed. House prejudice is still rampant, and the wizarding world still gawks at Harry. Ron mentions casting spells in broad daylight on a muggle for his driver's exam, so clearly muggles and the Statue of Secrecy are still a joke. It's like, complete and utter stagnation.

I also, don't actually want to see the second generation in canon. This is one of those things I think is better off to leave for fan spaces. The whole epilogue feels like a weird fanfic, it doesn't feel like a part of the books. It's even written in a different POV, that same third-person omnipotent that appears in the first chapter of books 1, 4, and 6. It just feels outside the books, I don't know how else to put it. It took me out of the story instead of leaving me satisfied with the ending.

I made it no secret I hate Dumbledore, so having Harry name his son after the two men who made his life hell, as much if not more than the Dursleys, just... it's just really gross. I hate thinking about it even.

I'm not the biggest fan of the names Hugo and Rose either, but that's my personal opinion.

The final problem I have with the epilogue itself is more subjective than the others, but also the most glaring for me, and that's Harry and Ginny. I just really didn't like them as a couple for multiple reasons that I want to make a whole post about actually (it's in the drafts, I'm working on it). But I didn't like the fact Harry married Ginny, I just really don't like them together. It's more of a me thing, and I'm sure fans who ship them together don't mind this, hence why I saved it for last, but it does bother me quite a bit.

And it's not that I dislike all of JK's canon pairings. I like Ron and Hermione, Bill and Fleur, Remus and Tonks, James and Lily — I like all of them well enough. It's Harry and Ginny that I have a problem with.

Thoughts about things JK said about the characters' futures (cursed child and Pottermore and a bit of the epilogue):

I don't like the Harry's and Hermione's careers, I think they are a disservice to the characters.

I go into more detail below about why the Ministry of Magic really really sucks, but with how the final books (5 and afterward) are all about how bad and corrupt the ministry is, it sits really wrong for me than Harry and Hermione go to work there.

And like, with as much as Harry is good in DADA and likes it, I don't think he'll actually enjoy being an Auror. Being an auror is more than just fighting dark wizards. It's filling out paperwork, dealing with bureaucracy, and having to obey his boss. Harry can't obey anyone, I can't see him working well in a hierarchical system that supports authority, it's the antithesis of a character who could resist the imperious curse on his first try because of how much he hates obeying. Personally, I think Harry should've removed the DADA teacher's curse and stayed at Hogwarts. Like, I see him as a DADA professor who often joins Aurors as, like, a special advisor or something. It'll give him more freedom and I think he'll like working with students and staying at Hogwarts.

As for Hermione, yes, she had SPEW, and I definitely think she would spend her life trying to improve creature rights, I just can't really see her becoming a minister. Hermione isn't about strategy (that was Ron), and she isn't about leading (that was Harry). Hermione is compassionate, and I do, as I mentioned, expect her to work for creature rights and improve the state of muggleborns in their society. But she's also a need, who loves reading and studying, I kinda feel she'd be more at home as an unspeakable rather than the minister. She just isn't a politician. Think about them breaking into Gringotts where she literally couldn't lie to save their lives.

Ron, I kinda like the idea of him trying to be an Auror and leaving after two years (honestly, Harry could have done the same and I would've been more willing to accept it). And I don't mind the idea of him helping George at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, I understand why he'll want to do it. Both to get out of the limelight, to help George with Fred's loss that they all share (tbh I'm in denial about that), and the chill environment probably would be good for him after the war. I think Ron will have fun in such a profession, honestly. He's the only one where I can kinda see it.

I don't like the way the Wizarding World is portrayed in the epilogue as I mentioned above — like nothing changed.

In the final books in the series (but actually, we see hints of this in books 2 and 3 already) the ministry is repeatedly portrayed as corrupt and inherently discriminatory — both towards magical creatures and muggleborns.

I don't think I need to discuss House Elves and werewolves too much, as the books state the problems in the ministry’s treatment of these groups quite plainly. But what the books don't mention as much is how hard muggleborns who wish to stay in the Wizarding World have it.

While there are private professions like shop owners, broom makers, Quidditch players, authors, and such, most jobs in the Wizarding World are in the ministry. And you can't get a job in the ministry unless you have connections in the ministry. They run on nepotism and who-knows-who and not merit. This places all muggleborns, even ones like Hermione (if she wasn't a war hero) at a disadvantage when searching for a job after Hogwarts.

We see it with Tom Riddle (12 NEWTs, all O's, prefect, and head boy). Yes, Slughorn pulled some strings to get him job offers, but he preferred to work at Borgin and Butkes over the lowly ministry positions they were willing to give a muggleborn who got a recommendation! What do you think happens to the muggleborns without a close relationship with Slughorn or to students who were quiet but still got solid Os and Es. And we don't know if other teachers recommend students to the ministry.

And that's before I talk about how muggleborns are introduced to magic, which is abhorrent. Or the lack of care towards child abuse (cases like Harry, Voldemort, and Snape come to mind). Or wizards' condescension towards everything muggle. Even Arthur Weasley, who supposedly loves muggles, is incredibly condescending towards muggles and ill-informed about them.

This outlook on muggles is why the Statue of Secrecy is a joke. I mean, book 1 opens with Vernon seeing weird people in colorful cloaks celebrating Voldemort’s downfall. They have no subtlety. considering Ron confounded the examiner on his driver's test and Harry and his family walked with owls in a muggle train station, this didn't get better either...

Sorry for my rant about the ministry, but all this is to say, I don't like the idea of Harry and Hermione working in such a corrupt system that they both witnessed the damage of firsthand. And even if they did work there, I kinda expected them to change it. To actually put in the effort to improve the damaged system they had, and JK mentioned they did. But in the epilogue and any other material we see no signs of this improvement. Everything is still corrupt and running on connections and favors. Otherwise, Albus Potter wouldn't be scared of being sorted into Slytherin, that fact alone means the prejudices that are a huge problem in their world still exist.

The ministry's corruption was such a big plot point in the final books that it feels weird to me that it isn't addressed in any way in the epilogue itself. I mean, the reason Voldemort rose to power as easily as he did was because the ministry and their society were built to allow it.

My ideal epilogue will take place maybe a few months after the war, it'll show them rebuilding, and being hopeful for a future that'll now exist. Stop the house rivalries that do more damage than good and cease the discrimination against muggleborns and creatures, or at least take the first steps towards something better. And it'll show the couples together and the golden trio's friendship, but no second-generation stuff. I feel that wasn't necessary to get the point across. Which I don't feel it did. Like, it gave me the wrong kind of catharsis that I wasn't looking for, if that makes any sense. It just gave me answers to questions I didn't ask.

Hugo smirked. He shrugged and when he spoke again it was with a subtle Russian inflection, “You are a clever woman, Eve Polastri.”

Villanelle/Hugo rounded on her with a somewhat menacing swagger.

She was almost close enough to touch now, their breaths mingling. At this range, Eve could smell the the perfume on Hugo’s skin - entirely Villanelle, and intoxicating. Eve’s mind started to unravel a little.

“I can show you.”

“You’re a student, Villanelle. One of my students.”

“Not tonight. I’m just another colleague, boy wonder himself. Professor of Herbology, right? So boring. But it came down to him and Professor Martens, and-”

“Stop talking,” Eve squeezed her eyes shut, “God, this is fucked up.”

How I imagine Rose Granger-Weasley

She grew up playing in WWW

Ron was a stay-at-home Dad with Rose until Hermione fell pregnant with Hugo, and he took on a role at WWW to help with bills (more on this in an old post)

Rose gets on with both of her parents, but she’s definitely a Daddy’s Girl and Hugo is a big Mummy’s boy

Rose and Hugo fall out sometimes like all siblings do, but she’s very protective of him for the most part

She is a very stereotypical big sister and she definitely inherited her mother’s knack for bossiness, ordering Hugo about whenever they played games

But she made the most fun games and Hugo didn’t mind letting her take charge because she was the best at imagining

Of all her cousins, she’s closest with Albus. Maybe because they were the closest in age, they would often get sat together at family events and they became very close, but really she was close with all her cousins

When she’s at Hogwarts, she hangs around mostly with Albus and Scorpius, but (since they’re in a different house) she doesn’t see them all the time. That’s okay with her, though, because she likes to have time to herself, reading and painting

Like Ron says, she takes after her mother

She’s definitely a bright witch so no one’s real surprised initially when the Sorting hat places her in Ravenclaw

“Hermione Granger’s daughter, you know? Just like her mother, I’m sure”

But classes start and her teachers are surprised by her behaviour. They expected her to be just like Hermione, but her behaviour is much more like Ron

In class, she’s often told off for daydreaming and letters were definitely sent home fairly often informing Ron and Hermione that she wasn’t paying attention in class

Instead, more often than not, she would sketch instead of take notes. She was a good little artist

In her first class with McGonagall, she drew a picture of her animagus form in her witch’s hat, and it was confiscated

Sometimes she would enchant the pictures to move, but other times she would prefer to keep them still and admire the world she created trapped in a single moment

When end of year exams came, her teachers were pleasantly shocked she had passed most of her subjects with mostly ‘Exceeds Expectations,’ a couple ‘Acceptables’ and even one ‘Outstanding’ in astronomy after a year of late homework and not paying attention

Around third year, she started feeling more anxious about her academic performance. Her whole life, she was being compared to her mother and now that Hermione was the Minister, the pressure was worse than ever

She felt as though people met her, daughter of Hermione Granger, the brightest witch of her age, and Ron Weasley, also one of the bravest fighters during the war, and they expected something… better

It was an impossible life to live up to

She tried to do better, push herself to get those top marks in subjects. She really tried her hardest in class, asking questions and taking notes, and she stayed up late into the night to get more studying done

Rose stopped drawing, stopped painting, stopped everything that made her happy, including seeing her friends and cousins. There was no time anymore

James was the one who finally wrote to her parents, but apparently he hadn’t been the only one who had noticed

Rose was asked to stay behind after transfiguration with McGonagall. Minnie poured them some tea and offered Rose a biscuit, which she took quite happily

“I’ve noticed a change in your behaviour, Ms Granger-Weasley,” she said. “Apparently I’m not the only one. Professor Longbottom has conveyed similar changes in herbology. It’s almost as if your mother is back in my class.”

Rose smiled, tired from lack of sleep, but pleased. “Thank you!”

“I also noticed a few other differences,” she continued. “For example, I have seen you falling asleep in the Great Hall during meal times, and it’s been a long time since you’ve shown me one of your wonderful pictures.”

“Well, Professor, I’ve been trying a lot harder in all my classes,” Rose said. “There’s time for silly hobbies after I’ve completed my education. I need to be focused like my mum was.”

And then McGonagall went on to tell Rose the importance of not overexerting oneself and the toll it can take on your mental health

“I imagine that it’s not always easy being the child of two famous parents, especially when they achieved so much at a young age, but… you are your own person. Not your mother or father and nor would they want you to be. You are Rose Minerva Granger-Weasley, and you have your own wonderful destiny.”

Rose was stunned. As she left, McGonagall added, “For the record, I have never considered your art a silly hobby,” and Rose noticed her slip something into her desk drawer. The same picture she had confiscated from her two years ago

She really listened to her that day. She was not Hermione or Ron. She was a little bit of both and then some. She was Rose and she had her own path to take

That night, she used a paintbrush for the first time in months and felt herself again

Something occurred to her. She wasn’t the only one who loved art. If they teach it in muggle schools, why could they not have art classes in Hogwarts?

That said, why stop there? What about things like music?

A few days later, she went to see McGonagall again, this time with five pages filled with signatures

“These are the students who think we should have an arts and music programme at Hogwarts. There are so many empty classrooms and the school definitely has the funding.”

McGonagall smiled proudly. “This is quite something you’ve put together, I’ll propose it to the board.”

It took some time, but eventually the board had to agree because so many students were demanding it

Obviously, Hermione and Ron were so proud

Fifth year starts and Rose joins the quidditch team, chaser like her Aunt Ginny

Around this time, she becomes friends with a fourth-year muggleborn witch also new on the team, Darlene

She realises (or, more accurately, let’s herself realise) that she’s got feelings for Darlene

She tries to ignore it, but one day, Darlene kisses her and she can’t ignore it anymore

Over Christmas break, she comes out to her family, and holds her breath

But, of course, they’re all so supportive

Ron is especially eager to meet her new girlfriend, insisting she stay with them for a week over the summer

When Albus and Scorpius come out a year later, she’s the only one who’s shocked

She’s seen them together more than anyone, but somehow was the only one who missed it entirely

Like her Uncle Harry, she can be totally oblivious

(Except this time, even he knew)

When Rose left school, she became an artist… but decided she wanted to explore her Muggle heritage

Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first of September was crisp and golden. Harry remembered the feeling of the first day of term all too well and he knew his children would feel the same. As the family bobbed across the rumbling road towards the great, sooty station, the fumes of car exhausts and the breath of pedestrians sparkled like cobwebs in the cold air. Two large cages rattled on top of the laden trolleys Harry and Teddy were pushing towards the platform; the owls inside them hooted indignantly, as Ginny pushed the pram carrying their twin girls behind them.   “It won’t be long, and you’ll be going too,” Ginny told them.   “Gin, they’re three…” Harry laughed.   “In a blink of eye, H. Look how quickly they grew up.” Ginny nodded to the three tall boys walking in front of them. “A blink of an eye.” She sighed. The commuters stared curiously at the owls as the family wove its wave towards the barrier between platforms nine and ten. James’ voice drifted back to Harry over the surrounding clamour; his sons had resumed the argument they had started in the car.   “Hufflepuff is the superior house!”   “You’re wrong! It’s Gryffindor!”   “Well you both belong in those houses, you’re both wrong. It’s Slytherin.”   “Will you three give it a rest!” said Ginny.   “Well-…” James caught his mother’s eye and fell silent. The Potters approached the barrier. Without a second thought, Teddy took his trolley and disappeared. James nodded for Arthur to go second and followed quickly. Harry checked cautiously over his shoulder before he and Ginny broke into a run. Within moments the family had vanished.   “You’ll write to me, won’t you?” Arthur asked his mum immediately capitalising on the momentary absence of his brothers.   “Every day, if you want me to but you know your dad will be there during the day anyway?” Said Ginny.   “Not every day. And I know but you won’t be.” Arthur said quietly. “James says most people only get letters from home once a month.”   “I wrote to James three times a week last year and he would go to your dad’s classroom every day,” said Ginny.   “Don’t believe everything he tells you about Hogwarts,” Harry added. “He likes a laugh, but he will look after you, and I am there if you need me.”   As they walked along the platform, their vision was obscured by thick, white steam that was pouring from the scarlet Hogwarts Express. Indistinct figures were swarming through the mist, into which James and Teddy had already disappeared.   “Where are they?” asked Arthur anxiously, peering at the hazy forms they passed as they made their way along the platform.   “We will find them,” said Ginny reassuringly. But the vapour was dense, and it was difficult to make out anybody’s faces. Detached from their owners, voices sounded unnaturally loud. Harry thought he heard Percy discoursing loudly on broomstick regulations and was quite glad of the excuse not to stop and say hello. Although he knew he would be hearing those regulations on Sunday at the Burrow anyway.   “I think that’s them, Artie,” said Ginny suddenly.   A small family emerged from the mist, standing alongside the very last carriage. Their faces only came into focus when Harry, Ginny and Artie had drawn right up to them.   “Hi,” said Arthur, sounding immensely relieved. Rose, who was already wearing her brand-new Hogwarts robes, beamed at him.   “Parked all right, then?” Ron asked Harry. “I did, Hermione didn’t believe I could do it, did you?” He turned to Hermione, who was shaking her head. “But then again she did not believe I could pass a Muggle driving test either. She thought I would need to Confund the examiner.”   “No, I didn’t,” said Hermione, sounding shocked at the accusation, “I had complete faith in you.” She and Ginny shared a small look before turning back to Ron. He and Harry were now having a hushed discussion.   “As a matter of fact, I did Confund him. What she doesn’t know.” He said as together they lifted Arthur’s trunk and owl on to the train. “I only forgot to look in the wing mirror, and let’s face it, I can use a Supersensory Charm for that.”   Harry and Ron began discussing the intricacies of driving, while Hermione cooed over the twins and Ginny discussed Hogwarts with Hugo, Rose’s younger brother.   “Hey, if you’re not in Gryffindor, we’ll disinherit you,” said Ron, “but no pressure.”   “Ronald!”   Hugo laughed but Artie and Rose looked solemn.   “He doesn’t mean it,” said Hermione pulling Rose into a hug, she looked at Ron with a stern eye, but he was no longer paying attention. Catching Harry’s eye, he nodded covertly to a point some fifty yards away. The steam had thinned for a moment, and three people stood in sharp relief against the shifting mist.   “Look who it is.”   Draco Malfoy was standing there with his wife and son, a dark coat buttoned up to his throat. His hair was receding somewhat, which emphasised his pointed chin. The young boy resembled Draco as much as James resembled Harry. Draco caught sight of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny staring at him, he nodded curtly, smiled, and turned away again.   “So that’s little Scorpius,” said Ron under his breath. “Make sure you beat him in every test, Rosie. Thank God, you inherited your mother’s brains.”   “Ronald, for heaven’s sake,” said Hermione, still looking at him sternly. “Don’t try to turn them against each other before they’ve even started school!”   “You’re right, sorry,” said Ron, but unable to help himself, he added, “don’t get too friendly with him though, Rosie. Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pure-blood.” He laughed nudging both Hermione and Rose.  “Hey!” James had reappeared, he seemed to have divested himself of his trunk, owl, and trolley, and was evidently bursting with news.   “Teddy’s back there,” he said breathlessly, pointing back over his shoulder into the billowing clouds of steam. “Just seen him! And guess what he was doing? He was snogging Victoire! SNOGGING!” He gazed up at the adults, evidently disappointed by the lack of reaction. “Our Teddy. Teddy Lupin! Snogging our Victoire! And I asked Teddy what he was doing-…”   “You interrupted them?” said Ginny. “You are so like your Uncle Ron-“   “-and he said he’d come to see her off! And then he told me to go away. He’s snogging her!” James added, as though he was worried, he had not made himself clear before. He looked half amused and half confused when Ginny and Harry looked each other and smirked.   “Uh James, darling. What exactly do you think they are doing when they spend all that time locked up his room?” Ginny asked.   “Well I-… Oh.” The surrounding adults laughed at James’ sudden realisation. “Hey! Everyone already knew!” James shouted at the blue haired boy who appeared through the smog smirking.

  “Alright everyone, it’s nearly eleven, you’d better get on board.” Harry said, checking the battered, old watch that had once been Fabian Prewett’s.   “And don’t forget to give Uncle Neville our love!” Ginny told James and Arthur as she hugged them both tightly.   “Mum! We can’t give a professor love.”   “But you know Uncle Neville-…”   James rolled his eyes.   “Outside, yeah but at school he’s Professor Longbottom, isn’t he? I can’t walk into Herbology and give him love. I don’t walk up to dad and give him love!”   Arthur laughed as James shook his head at his mother’s foolishness. They gave the twins an affectionate pat on the head, allowed Ginny to kiss them on the cheek and leapt onto the rapidly filling train. Teddy gave them both chocolate frogs through the carriage window. Before turning to Ginny and putting his arm around her.   “They will be fine; they are back at Christmas and Harry is there on Monday.” He said to her warmly. They saw them settle into their carriage with Rose and Scorpius. The doors were slamming all along the scarlet train, and the blurred outlines of parents were swarming forwards for final kisses and last-minute reminders. Students were hanging from the windows nearest them. A great number of faces, both on the train and off, seemed to be turned towards Harry.   “Why are they all staring?” demanded Arthur, as he and Rose craned round to look at the other students.   “Don’t let it worry you,” said Ron, “It’s me. I’m extremely famous.” Arthur, Rose, and the rest of the carriage laughed. The train began to move, Harry walked alongside it, watching his son’s thin face, already ablaze with excitement. Harry kept smiling and waving, even though it was like a little bereavement, watching his son glide away from him.   The last trace of steam evaporated in the autumn air. The train rounded a corner, Harry’s hand was still raised in farewell.   “You’ll see him on Monday,” murmured Ginny. As Harry looked at her, he lowered his hand absent-mindedly and touched the lightning scar on his forehead. The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years.   “I know I will. We have a weekend to ourselves-… well besides the twins of course.” He said, reaching for her hand. Ginny stretched her hand out and entwined her fingers into his.   “I don’t know. We might be able to get those two to take them.” She said nodded at Hermione and Ron as they played with the two girls. She and Harry laughed. They walked back towards their friends, planning their quiet weekend before returning to their jobs. All was well.

Headcanons:

LOVES his mama big time, totally a mama’s boy, in a good way. Has many special moments with Angelina just the two of them

Also, he is particularly close with his paternal grandparents. Molly and him like to tend to the garden together and Arthur shows him how radios work

He is so sweet, much softer of a personality than either his mum or dad, and is a truly wonderful friend to all his cousins

However, this doesn’t mean he can’t crack jokes and horse around just as great as his dad

Plays as Hufflepuff chaser from year 4 on, even though he’s not particularly amazing at quidditch, because a lot of his friends are on the team and his mom and aunt were a FREAKIN HOLYHEAD HARPIES

-Other: One time, at breakfast, Scorpius winked at her before leaving with Albus to pull off their latest prank. Lucy was so flustered that she tripped standing up from the table and fell face-first into her porridge.

Fourth-year

-Favorite teacher: Professor Longbottom

-Worst subject: Defense against the Dark Arts

-Least favorite subject: Defense against the Dark Arts—She would never get over last year’s humiliation of having a panic attack over her boggart.

-Other: Scorpius kisses Lucy on the cheek on the platform before running onto the train. He gets a Howler from Percy at the start of term feast. Lucy was worried that it ruined all chances of Scorpius returning her feelings when Scorpius brushed the ashes off his shoulder, leaning over the table, and kissed Lucy right on the lips in front of the whole school.

I really want Hugo Granger-Weasley to be a legilimens.

Hugo keeps his legilimency secret because it’s a condition highly controlled by the Ministry, and there are a lot of restrictions in place for legilimens who find themselves on the registry.

Hermione keeps him off of the official record (probably the only illegal thing she’s ever done) in order to provide him more freedom.

Most legilimens are off the registry anyway, so close friends and family have no problem keeping that a secret.

At Hogwarts he gets sorted into Gryffindor.

He easily gets all the highest scores in tests because he can hear everyone’s thoughts. Though, by now he’s already learned that copying directly is suspicious, so he switches up the wording a little.

He’s a total gossip in his family, and he can tell when someone has a secret because they avoid him like the plague.

Of course, since he is a legilimens, he’s empathetic enough to hold in some secrets.

Probably the favourite of a lot of his cousins, because he’s able to understand them effortlessly where others may not.

Although he doesn’t play Quidditch, he’s an excellent announcer. He never says anything inaccurate because he can hear the players’ thoughts. In order to aid the Gryffindor team he announces the other teams’ intentions a little in advance so they have time to save a point.

He‘s on a Lee Jordan level of cheekiness and enthusiasm when he commentates, but never gets in trouble for his remarks because he knows the exact point where to stop where his professor won’t prevent him from announcing in the future.

He’s been asked why he doesn’t play, since he can read the game so well, but he just prefers not to.

When he’s bored in class he listens in on what his professors are thinking during class, which is pretty hilarious.

Since his uncle, Harry retired from the Auror office to become the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in his third year, he’s gotten a lot closer to his cousins James, Albus, and Lily because they’re on Harry’s mind a lot.

He knows the the right answers in his classes, and is the favourite of all his teachers (especially his Divination professor, who highly recommends he seek a career in the field).

His brilliant academic performance means he has a lot of free time to himself, and he pursues a lot of creative hobbies in his free time.

He’s a real comfort to everyone at Hogwarts; a great ally to closeted students, those suffering from mental illness, and homesick first-year students (who often suffer from nightmares).

However, being a legilimens is like constantly reading a slow-burn fanfic about all his friends’ crushes. Luckily, he used this to act as a matchmaker for all the couples he ships; Albus and Scorpius, Rose and Lorcan, Lily and Estelle etc. This can lead people to become frustrated with his intervention, but he’s so effective that when his family suspect his input in their new relationship that they’re pleased.

Wordlessly helps people to save them from embarrassment in class, whether they’re just confused on a question or need to go to the Nurse - Mrs Longbottom.

After awhile, he begins to develop a talent for helping others, which encourages him to become a Healer once he leaves Hogwarts.

He is able to come up with new and innovative cures for magical ailments with his extensive knowledge of Potions and Herbology and in doing so, proves to himself and his family that he doesn’t just lazily parrot information back and forth, working instead to develop his existing knowledge.

He’s particularly innovative in the field of mental illness, gaining acclaim for his profound understanding of certain conditions and their symptoms. Never revealing to anyone that he himself is a legilimens, he works to repeal restrictive laws on those born with the condition in the Ministry of Magic.

After years of concealing this aspect of his identity, he finally tells the world about his legilimency once he reaches the highest possible position in magical medicine at the Ministry.

Long after his death, Hugo Granger-Weasley is celebrated for his contributions to his field, and remembered as a pioneering advocate in the struggle for the equality of all magical people.

Honestly, I never thought I’d get here. Ever since I got a Tumblr I’ve been kinda invisible up until a couple weeks ago, and here I am! It’s so surreal. Nineteen Years Later ~ Harry Potter Preference

Harry Potter:

Kings Cross station was absolutely packed on September 1st, 2017. You strolled along the busy platforms with your husband Harry Potter and your three children, James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna, trying to get to platform 9 ¾. It was Albus’ first year and James’ third year at Hogwarts. The two boys pusher along their trolleys with them as the youngest girl clung to her mother’s hand, complaining about how she wanted to join her older brother’s.

“Don’t worry Lily,” you said, looking down at your sulking daughter. “You’ll be going soon. I promise.”

“Two years!” She replied with a sniff. “Mum, I want to go now!”

You chuckled at her as you leaned down to gently place a kiss on the top of her head.

“I won’t be in Slytherin! I won’t!” Albus yelled at his older brother. You rolled your eyes. Those two were just always at each other’s throats!

“James quit it, or so help me,” you sent a glare at your oldest. He shrugged, a smirk playing at his lips.

“I only said he might-” he started, but cut himself off when he looked into your eyes and immediately stared back in front of him.

Harry came up from behind and placed a hand on Albus’ back giving him a reassuring smile. As they arrived between platforms 9 and 10, James threw a cocky look at his younger brother from over his shoulder before he broke out into a run and, in the blink of an eye, disappeared through the barrier. Harry grabbed the handle of his trolley before muttering something and taking off through the wall, which you and Lily followed soon after. Once the thick smoke had cleared up from the other side, a giant scarlet steam engine was visible, bearing a small sign on the front saying “Hogwarts Express”. The surrounding space was just as crowded as the muggle station, if not more.

The Potter family dodged through crying children and parents as they made they’re way over to Ron and Hermione Weasley with their two kids Rose, who is the same age as Albus, and Hugo, who is the same age as Lily.

The kids ran to each other for hugs and to talk about their matching excitement to go to Hogwarts. Hermione laughed fondly at them.

“You act like you haven’t seen each other in ages!” She said. “We had dinner together just last week!”

As soon as she said that the train whistle blew loudly, signalling for the students to board now. You gave James a sloppy kiss on the cheek which he quickly wiped off his cheek with an embarrassed filled voice telling you to stop doing that. You smiled and slightly pushed him playfully. You then turned to Albus and gave him a great bear hug he returned just as tight. You placed a kiss on his mess of jet black hair. He turned over to Harry before he departed.

“Dad, what if I am put in Slytherin?” He asked nervously as he looked up into his dad’s matching green eyes. He sighed and crouched down so he was eye level with his son.

“Albus Severus,” he started looking intently at the boy in front of him. “You were named after two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin, and he was the bravest man I’ve ever known.”

“But just say-”

“Then Slytherin house would’ve gained an excellent student.“ He cut Albus off again. "But if it really matters to you, the Sorting Hat will take your choice into account, it did for me anyways.”

“Really?” He asked with a slight smile. He smiled back.

“Yes. Now, get on the train before you miss it. Trust me when I say you don’t want that to happen.” He replied guiding him up to the steps on the train. He got on and sat down in a compartment with Rose, James, Teddy Lupin, and Victoire Weasley.

The whistle blew one last time as the doors closed and the train started to move. You huddled into Harry’s side, him wrapping an arm around your waist, as you waved them off until the engine rounded the corner. You went to get Lily as she went to chase the train down the platform to say her last goodbyes to her brothers.

“Oh, I can’t wait ‘till that’s me on that train.” She said hopefully. Harry laughed.

“It’ll go by sooner than you expect.” He remarked as he grabbed her hand with his free one, the other still being wrapped around you. He planted a kiss on your temple before waving goodbye to the Weasley clan and heading back home.

Draco Malfoy:

“Scorp! Time to go!” You yelled for your only son. “You too, Draco! Hurry up, we can’t be late!”

“I’m here!” Scorpious said as he carried a heavy trunk in one hand and a large bird cage containing a majestic barn owl in the other. You quickly ran over to the stairs to help carry his load down. “Dad says he’ll be down soon. I’m so excited! I’m finally going to Hogwarts! Can you believe it?!” He said fast while jumping up and down pulling on a sleeve of the dress you’re wearing. You laughed, slicking back a strand of his silver-blonde hair, looking exactly like his father at his age, but obviously less obnoxious.

“Barely, darling. We’re going to miss you so much! It’s going to be too quiet around here.” You said laughing still, him joining you.

“Alright, who’s ready to go to Hogwarts?” Draco said as he walked down the grand staircase, fixing the cuff on his suit and smiling at Scorpious.

“ME!” He screamed as he ran over to the fireplace, his trunk wheeling behind him. The older man laughed genuinely before walking over to you and placing a quick kiss on your lips.

“We’ve done well, I do believe.” He muttered against your lips before kissing you again.

“Yeah” you sighed. “Hit the jackpot."He smiled and agreed before leading you to the fireplace where Scorp already has a hand full of floo powder and was running over to the fireplace, a big grin on his face.

"PLATFORM 9 ¾” He yelled loud and clear before dropping the powder and the green flames swallowed him up and took him to his destination. You and Draco did the same and walked out onto the crowded platform. You were a bit early so you didn’t have to do any rushed goodbyes.

“Don’t forget to be nice. You don’t want to end up being known as the school prat like your father. And stay safe, will you? Try not to get into to much trouble. We’ll write every week.” You told him as you kissed his forehead and wrapped his jacket around him. You stepped back to look at his appearance and smiled widely before crushing him into another hug. “Oh Merlin, I’m missing you already.”

“I’ll be fine, mom!” He reassured, laughing a bit. He turned over to his dad and gave him a hug to. “But I’m gonna miss you guys too.” The whistle blew and he climbed onto the scarlet train and into an empty compartment. He waved to his parents till they were out of sight.

“He’s gonna be okay?” you said as you smiled and waved back at your baby boy. Draco smiled down.

“Yeah..” He said before kissing you deeply.

“PDA! PDA!” Someone from across the platform yelled causing the two of you to quickly pull apart. You looked for the source as you found the Golden trio back together and you couldn't help but smile.

“Shut it, Weasel,” he yelled back, but you could tell he was holding back a smile. He then looked at you. “I wasn’t really the school prat, was I?” He asked innocently as if he didn’t know. You shook you’re head, putting your palm up to your forehead.

“Oh my,”

Neville Longbottom:

You woke up early on the crisp morning of the first of September in 2017, not naturally of course. Rather a light shaking and a small voice calling your name woke you from your beauty sleep.

“Y/N, darling, time to wake up.” Your boyfriend Neville called. You groaned and turned over.

“Why are we waking up so early again?” You mumbled sleepily. Neville smiled fondly at you before kissing your cheek.

“Because it’s September the first.” He said cheekily. You groaned again.

“Already? Didn’t summer vacation start, like, a week ago?” You complained. He sighed and laid down next to you, pulling you into his bare chest.

“Sure does seem like it, eh?” He joked, earning a smile from you. “But seriously, we have to get up, or we’re gonna miss the train.”

You and Nev are professor’s at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he works in Herbology and you in Transfiguration (or whatever your favourite subject is at Hogwarts). You actually meet during the job. Sure you went to school together for all those years but neither one of you worked up the courage to talk to the other. So the teaching gave you an excuse to have to talk to each other. And one thing led to another…

You walked down the stairs of the small flat you two owned together and started on breakfast while Neville took a shower. As you just put out your scrambled eggs and toast he popped out from the hall bathroom with nice dress robes already on.

“You look very handsome, you giggled as he walked into the kitchen and pecked your lips before both sitting down at the small dining table and ate your breakfast, occasionally talking about the year to come. After that, you also got dressed into some nicer clothes than pyjamas and the two of you headed to work, deciding to walk since you lived quite close to the station. You ran through the barrier together and quickly stored away your stuff before heading into the teacher's compartment, but not before quickly waving to their old school friends Harry and Ginny Potter, and Ron and Hermione Weasley.

“Albus is starting his first year? Already?” You questioned in surprise. He let out a sigh and nodded.

“Yeah, and so is Rose! James is going into his third year too.” He replied.

“Wow.” You mumbled. “They grow up so fast.” He nodded his head in agreement. After a moment you looked at him. “Speaking of which. Hey Neville.”

“Mhmm,” he hummed, showing that he was listening. “What’s up?”

“I’m pregnant.” You said calmly. You heard him whip his head around to look at you.

“Wait... WHAT?!”

Ron Weasley:

“Ron,” you warned your husband as he tried to back into one of the small parking at Kings Cross Station. Your two kids, Rose and Hugo Weasley, were sitting in the back seat looking slightly terrified as to what will happen next. They’re not used to travelling the muggle way.

“Don’t worry, Y/N,” he said, sounding confident. “I can do this. I did pass the drivers test.”

“I still think you Confunded the examiner,” you mumbled, but still loud enough for him to hear. He scoffed and then continued his task.

After five minutes and lots of scrapes on the neighbouring cars (nothing a little repairing spell can’t fix), he finally parked the car. The kids got out, looking a bit pale in the face, and Rose got her trunk from the boot. They walked down the station, as busy as always, and through the barrier between platform’s 9 and 10. You helped push your daughter’s trolley down Platform 9 ¾ were the scarlet coloured steam engine waited, thick amounts of vapour pouring from the front. Once you found a suitable spot near the end of the train you started to pack away her trunk on the train and started to bid your goodbyes.

“You’ve got everything, Rosie? Bag, jumper…” You asked as you placed her carry on over her shoulder and zipped up her sweater a bit more.

“Yeah,” she said as she smiled back sadly at you. You sighed as you pulled her into your chest with a quick kiss to her forehead.

“Oh, I’m gonna miss you.” You said to her once you pulled away from her.

“Here they come,” Ron whispered to you. You looked over your shoulder to see Ron’s sister Ginny and her husband Harry coming down with their own kids. I smiled and waved at them, which they kindly returned. Their middle son Albus, who is the same age as Rose, both boarded the train together.

“Why is everyone staring?” Hugo asked, looking around at parents and children alike gaping at the group of you.

“It’s me. I’m extremely famous.” Ron joked as he ruffled his son’s head of fiery red hair, which he immediately smacked off. The train gave one last loud whistle before lurching off. Once the train rounded the corner and you said goodbye to the Potter clan you began to walk back to the parking lot.

“Hey mum,” Hugo called before you could reach the car. “Please say you’ll be driving us home, or else I’m fine with walking home.”

You laughed. “Hugo we live almost 2 miles away. You can’t walk all that way.”

“I know. But I feel as if dad’s driving will be the end of us all.” He said with a cheeky smile. I laughed harder as I pulled him closer to me while Ron looked unamused.

“I’m not that bad.” He complained and pouted like a child. You and your youngest gave him a look that told him he knew he was lying. “Ok, well I’m learning.”

“And until you do learn, let’s just say that I drive from now on,” you joked. He rolled his eyes but agreed along with Hugo and you all shared a laugh.
