hi cath i'm trying to distract myself from all the notifications i'm getting because goddamit i will forever be a niche internet celebrity (/j) because of dan and phil, how are you? how's the new year treating you so far?

im doing pretty good!! sketching something other than rnm for once bc i missed drawing my weird emo girls /affectionate. i understand how you’re feeling an embarrassing post i made on my sideblog was the first of those to get over 100 notes. so. thanks for that rnm community

Baseball is so cool and funny and I can only think of the UA baseball team on my I Don't Dance au when I see that type of posts:

1) Because Tomura is a menace of a pitcher and has the devil in those arms so he could 100% do the thing were he accidentally evaporates a bird.

2) I'd say that Hawks has the best reflexes of the team and Miruko the insane power when it comes to hiting a home run. Which means that Hawks is exactly that smooth cathing stuff that's headed his way and Miruko doesn't need a gun, just one swing to your chest and you get hospitalized.

3) Dabi is a maniac and he has insane talk with his team and the rivals and the public is constantly begin for him to wear the mandatory mic on the regular games. Every Dabi interaction is so funny (to me at least) and there are always videos of him circulating on social media.

4) There's always one crazy player who goes out to play with the mascot between innings. It's like a rule to the UA team. They're super popular 'cause they are simultaneous cool and goofy like only an UA student can be.

4) Twice is that one player who makes castles on the sand as he waits in the dugout and decorates them with stuff.

5) They do rent constumes to wear in celebration of winning a game or breaking a record. In fact all of them have a celebration and nickname and the UA even gave them uniforms with the nicknames on the back instead of their last names. Stuff like Hawks being Hawks for having the best eyesight when catching on the centerfield and being the fastest player of the team, or Dabi being Dabi for hitting so hard it almost a fire trail on the wake of the ball. Miruko often celebrate with acrobatics, Dabi has the helldance, Hawks mess with his hair and bows, etc.

6) Aizawa, part of the training staff, is known for adopting cats that accidentally get into the game. If any animal enters the field and the UA is playing you can bet Aizawa will be there getting the poor stressed animal out. (He shares the responsibility with Shirakumo, an art professor dedicated to training dancers, and with Present Mic, the official UA sport commentator, among other stuff).

Oohh this is a very interesting take because I too cringe at some pagans claiming that Christmas is just “stolen from Yule” but I don't think it's a purely Christian tradition either. Yes, it has Christ in its name but its origins don't date purely to the Bible like the Holy Week or the Assumption of Mary. December 25 isn't even mentioned in the text. There was even discourse on twitter this week because an uneducated American “trad cath” saw a video of a winter parade in Salzburg featuring a folk creature called Krampus and he said it was demonic.

I don't know if this is coming from an American view of Christmas (I don't know where OP is from) but in Europe the festivities change a lot from country to country and even within different regions of the same country. This is because pagans from the entire continent assimilated their traditions to the new religion. In some regions children aren't even given gifts by Christian figures like Santa Claus, St Nicholas or the Three Wise Men, but by other folk creatures like trolls, men of the forest/mountains or witches.

That's why I cringe when non-Northern Europeans (it's usually people who just discovered Wicca and think the Wheel of the Years is 100% factual) say “our ancestors used to celebrate Yule!!” because it's just not true. It used to be Yule but also Saturnalia or Koliada or other smaller folk festivities. Not to mention other traditions that were developed post-conversion but that don't really have ties to the Bible. For example, in my province bars arrange these parties where people sit circling a fire and we drink wine and sing while someone plays a percussion instrument. With a description like that you would think it's related to a god like Bacchus in some way but it actually dates to only 400 years ago.

So I somewhat agree with OP and think this is a conversation we should have, given the amount of misinformation there is on the internet. But I also don't think Christmas is a fully Christian tradition either. For me it's a mix of pagan, Christian and some other folk expressions added along the way.

Dear pagans, polytheists, and witches:

It is okay to celebrate Christmas.

Its okay to celebrating it as a non-Christian.

But you HAVE to accept and admit that it is a culturally Christian holiday.

In many culturally Christian countries you have to be cognizant of how Christmas is elevated above other religion's holidays.

Stop claiming every aspect of it is something stolen from ancient societies: bringing in trees, decorating with lights, gift giving— or whatever else you attribute to the "paganness" of Christmas with no legitimate sources.

Christmas was not stolen from the ancients and you cannot "reclaim it" by spreading pseudo-historical bullshit.

Just admit you will celebrate a culturally Christian holiday— its okay to admit that and move on.

UK Officially Joins Indo-Pacific Trade Bloc CPTPP

  UK's Accession to CPTPP Expected to Boost Investment and Employment New York Times, Sunday 16th July - Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch has officially signed the treaty, solidifying the United Kingdom's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The signing took place in New Zealand, marking the beginning of the UK's membership in a dynamic trade deal that spans 12 economies across Asia, the Pacific, and Europe.  

Promoting Prosperity and Expanding Market Access

Accompanied by an esteemed group of trade ministers from CPTPP member nations, including New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and Australia, Secretary Badenoch finalized the agreement, which follows extensive negotiations earlier this year. The UK government will now seek to ratify the agreement, subject to parliamentary scrutiny, while other CPTPP countries proceed with their own legislative processes.  

Driving Economic Growth and Job Creation

UK government celebrates CPTPP impact with new figures: 1 in 100 UK workers employed by CPTPP businesses, creating over 400,000 jobs. CPTPP membership to boost UK investment: Already at £182 billion in 2021, providing essential investor protections.   Benefits for British Businesses Leading industry figures expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunities presented by UK's formal accession to CPTPP. Ian Stuart, CEO of HSBC UK, stated, "The UK's formal accession to CPTPP marks a significant milestone for UK trade, enabling ambitious British businesses to connect with the world's most exciting growth markets for start-ups, innovation, and technology."   Stuart emphasized HSBC UK's commitment to supporting UK businesses in realizing their full potential and seizing global opportunities. Cath White, Head of International at Belvoir Farm, highlighted the advantages for UK goods exports, stating, "More than 99% of UK goods exported to CPTPP member countries will be eligible for zero tariffs."   This includes renowned British products such as whisky and cars. White emphasized that this agreement would open doors for UK producers to share their stories on a global scale, promoting British brands at a time when the world's attention is focused on the UK.   CPTPP's Impact on Employment and Economic Growth The government report shed light on the extensive economic impact of CPTPP membership. It revealed that CPTPP-related investment generated over £240 billion in turnover in London alone, with additional substantial contributions in the South East and East of England. In 2021 and 2022, CPTPP membership created 26,000 jobs, with 75% of employment in CPTPP-owned businesses situated outside of London. Notably, one in 50 jobs in the North East and one in every 25 jobs in the manufacturing sector were attributed to CPTPP.  

UK as a Trailblazer in CPTPP

The UK's accession to CPTPP represents a historic moment, as it becomes the first European member and the first new member since the formation of the trade bloc. This achievement would not have been possible had the UK remained in the European Union. With the UK's inclusion, CPTPP's combined GDP reaches an impressive £12 trillion, accounting for 15% of global GDP.  

Expanding Horizons and Empowering Trade

The UK government will now proceed with the necessary steps to bring the agreement into force, with expectations of implementation in the coming year. Membership in CPTPP holds significant benefits for the UK, as it will eliminate tariffs on more than 99% of current UK goods exports to member countries. This will enable dairy farmers, for example, to enjoy reduced tariffs on cheese and butter exports to Canada, Chile, Japan, and Mexico, expanding the UK's dairy market abroad. Additionally, CPTPP membership allows British businesses to operate more freely, with modern rules of origin fostering competitiveness. By diversifying supply chains and creating new export opportunities, the agreement enhances the flexibility of UK exporters. Moreover, the deal includes provisions to encourage investment, which is anticipated to increase in the UK. Inward investment stocks from CPTPP countries reached £182 billion in 2021.

My opinion in three sentences:

This book shook me to the core - I didn't even add it to my TBR because I thought it was either going to be an easy-read love story between a celebrity and fan, or feature a highly annoying, whiny protagonist. What Oseman delivered, however, blew me away and left me with much food for thought. Add in some amazing writing, two distinct character perspectives and some plotlines that had my heart a-pounding, and you've got yourself the new favourite that is I Was Born for This ( - oh, and I totally recommend the audiobook, because the actors are amazing!)

(Without spoiling anything) the best bit:

If I had to pick just one thing, it would have to be Oseman's thematic exploration. I know, I know, that sounds so literature student-y (which I am definitely not) but there's no other way of putting it. The discussion of friendship, fandom, non-romantic relationships, life decisions and future all left me turning things over in my own head long after I'd set the headphones down and were things I was 100% not expecting from such a book. In hindsight, of course, I should have been because it's Oseman, but I don't think I've read a book on these topics that's made me think that hard before. Kudos.

A warning for the book:

I was in a serious book hangover after I finished this book. Not only did I end up listening to over half of it in one go, but then I couldn't stop thinking about it. The ending itself had me on tenterhooks and then I was thinking over so many of the points and themes Oseman had brought up, and their relevance in my own life, that I was an emotional mess with limited mental functioning. So, be prepared, folks - you're in for a wild ride!

OUR BIRTH STORY

Sunday 5/12 (mother’s day)

I woke up and went to the bathroom around 8am. I noticed there was blood in my urine with some clots and it was brighter red. I called wifey over and we thought it might be the mucus plug. We decided to call labor and delivery just to make sure we didn’t need to come in for further evaluation. After speaking with them, they said go ahead and come in. I was so nervous that something was wrong, but wifey is always reassuring. We go to labor and delivery and they hooked me up to the baby monitor and blood pressure cuff. The doctor performed an ultrasound and it looked like my water bag was still intact and baby looked good. After being monitored for an hour or so, they noticed that my blood pressure had increased a few times so they wanted to collect urine and blood. After another hour or so, my blood pressure had stabilized. Another doctor came in to speak with us about the results of the urine and blood tests which came back normal except they found protein in my urine which could mean I had preclampsia. The doctor offered us 2 choices: collect urine for 24 hours and f/u with my regular OB or they can do an early induction. We went with the first choice because it didn’t sound urgent enough that I needed to go into labor early and I didn’t want to be medically induced

Got home close to 1pm and our families were already at the house waiting for us to celebrate mother’s day. Sidenote: the weird thing is I had a weird dream the night before that we delivered on mother’s day.

Monday 5/13

Went to Kaiser to turn in my urine that I had been collecting for testing

Tuesday 5/14

Had a follow-up appointment with our OB. She reviewed that my blood pressure was okay, but the protein in my urine was elevated so I still wasn’t out of the clear for preclampsia. She suggested that I check my blood pressure daily and if it goes above 140/90 to call labor and delivery for a possible induction. She reviewed what that would look like and I had asked if there were options other than pitocin. She offered to strip my membranes (gently separate the amniotic sac from the wall of the uterus) which would be a natural way to induce me since she knew I really didn’t want to be medically induced. She warned me that it could be painful but I agreed and it definitely was uncomfortable. We were still scheduled for a follow up appointment the following monday if I didn’t go into labor yet and at that appointment we would schedule an induction if needed.

I went home so worried about a medical induction but also about possibly having preclampsia because it could be a serious condition if it gets worse. I just wanted to trust the baby that she would come out when she was ready.

Wednesday 5/15

1am-I woke up to a pain in my lower back that would come and go for the next few hours, so I thought they were contractions. They weren’t intense but definitely uncomfortable. I started googling whether or not I was actually having contractions after having my membranes stripped and it said yes…

4am- wifey and I took showers just in case we were going to go to the hospital soon

Unfortunately, wifey wasn’t feeling well so she rested/slept most of the day when she could. I just wanted her to get better before we went to the hospital

I tried going back to sleep but I just couldn’t, so I left wifey upstairs and went downstairs. For the rest of the day, I had contractions that killed my lower back and it was just so hard to get any rest since they were 8-10 minutes apart for hours. I sat on an exercise ball, walked around or bent over on the couch during my contractions. It was a sharp ass pain in my back and all I could do was breath through them. Eventually, wifey came down and we ate dinner, watched TV and tried to manage my contractions. Around 10pm, I called L&D since the contractions were now 5 minutes apart and more intense. They suggested to call again when my contractions were 3-4 minutes and to take a shower to help with the contractions which really did help!! The hot water felt so good on my back. It was a good time for us to get our bags and other items into the car. Around midnight, the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart so we called and they said to come on in. We got to L&D around 1am and were in triage.

Thursday 5/16

In triage, they checked my cervix and I was 4cm dilated. Thank goodness even though I wish I were further along since I had contractions for 24 hours already! I did have bloody show, but they were concerned since I was bleeding more than normal. They also asked what my birth plan was and I said unmedicated, which surprised them. A midwife came by and we were discussing my birth plan. Initially, we were supposed to be transferred to room 3 and then she said if I’m admitted within the next hour we could get room 7 which is what we wanted because it had the tub. It was so meant to be since unmedicated was our goal. One of the doctors came in to do an ultrasound and confirmed that the baby’s position was sunny side up which is why I was having so much back pain. Around 3:30-4am, they did a cervical check again and I was 5.5cm dilated and wanted to move forward with admitting me. We were transferred to room 7 and our nurse had suggested two different positions to try and change baby’s position: one was side lying with one of my legs up on a stirrup thing and the other was at the head of the bed in quadriped position with my knees as far apart. I tried both but eventually just wanted to do the sidelying position. When I had some contractions, the nurse applied counter pressure to my lower back which really helped and offered me hot packs. It was such a relief because I knew wifey wasn’t feeling well either and needed some rest. At 7am, they had the shift change and our nurse’s name was Kathy. gosh I thought it was a sign because one of my best friend’s bday  was today and maybe baby would be born. Around 10ish, they checked me and I was 9cm! we were like thank goodness 1 more centimeter and I could start pushing!

Wifey texted our fam to maybe head over just in case she would be born today. Her parents were already in the waiting room and my family started to get ready to head over. They checked again at 12noon and I was still 9cm. Every time they did a cervical check it brought on the worst contraction to where I would scream and cry. Our nurse gave me a TENS machine to use, which she said helps with back labors. It somewhat helped as a distraction from the actual pain. They offered me pitocin and I declined. I told wifey that I would accept it if I’m still at 9cm at the next check. Around 2ish, they checked again and I was still at 9cm so I accepted the pitocin. Now the contractions were closer together and more intense! They also offered me nitrous oxide and initially I said no. The doctor suggested to use the tub to see if the baby will change positions. The tub felt so nice and somewhat helped my contractions. After the tub, I asked for the nitrous gas which was helpful with helping me breathe through the contractions. the pitocin killed me because the contractions were closer together and more intense.  At some point, they broke my water bag to see if it would help me get closer to 10cm. It was such a weird sensation because it was just a warm gush of water coming out and it didn’t hurt.

I hadn’t gone to the bathroom in a long time and each time I tried and sat on the toilet I swear I was going to shit. The contractions were so strong! They did a bladder scan and luckily i wasn’t full yet. After several hours, they had offered me an epidural several times because they knew I was exhausted. Their intent was to get me some rest, but I really didn’t want it even though my contractions were painful and exhausting

8 or 9pm, they finally said I was 10cm and I started crying because I was so scared they wanted to give me an epidural or c section if I didn’t need it. My nurse then proceeded to straight cath me so it would help in my labor. Finally around 10:20, I was in active labor. We pushed in various positions. Initially on my back but that was painful because of my back contractions. Then we tried on my side but I didn’t like it either. Then we elevated the head of the bed and I was on my knees and forearms which I liked a lot.  We were there for a while and it was comfortable. The nurse that was with me was somewhat helpful and she tried to help me find comfortable positions. With my contractions, it felt like I was taking a shit and my bottom hurt so bad. Wifey tried to help me breathe through them but I knew my body wanted to get her out. At one point, I had spiked a fever so the OB came in and discussed that if I still have a fever in 30 minutes they will have to give me antibiotics and then that would mean the baby would have to go through a course of medications when she was born. We also discussed other options of helping get baby out such as the forceps and vacuum. After hearing that, my body went cray and wanted to push my baby out of me. It was contraction after contraction. My nurse went on break, so another nurse, Brie, came in clutch. She was an amazing and calm coach that guided me through the pushing. 

May 17 (Friday - Babygirl’s due date)

My OB confirmed that baby did change positions and I was so thankful. I was even more determined to push because they said they could see her head. At the very end, the OB said we’re almost there but you still need to keep pushing..I was so exhausted. At this point I had been up for almost 48 hours straight. I looked at wifey and said “i’m so tired, can we vacuum her out?” and she said of course do what’s best for you, I know you’re tired. Once we gave the yes, it went from 0 to 100 real quick. A whole team of people came into the room to prep and at the last 3 contractions, baby girl was being slowly vacuumed out. I started to see her head as I pushed out and then at 12:45am, 6lbs 7oz, 19 3/4 inches... there she was with a loud ass cry and of course we started crying from joy and just relief that she was finally here...
