URGENT: OUT OF POWER AND NEED FOOD
5/17/24
My family and I have been without power for over 24 hours ever since the tornado blew through Houston and tore the power towers down.
Everything in our fridge is going bad, we can't cook, and our water is hit or miss right now.
If anyone could help, we could really use some money to be able to get stuff to eat today, even if it's just fast food or crackers. We still don't know when the power is coming back.

HELP THIS VIETNAM VETERAN RETIRE
For those who live in the Houston, TX area, you might have heard of the shooting that recently happened at the Farmers Market. My grandfather, an 80 yo Vietnam vet, is an employee of this same farmer's market and has been working there longer than I've been alive. Matter o' fact, he works the exact same position as that man who was murdered.
We have been asking my grandfather for years to retire, but he simply cannot afford to do so. Between his medical bills for surgeries he's had, affording surgeries he needs, maintaining money aside for medicine, groceries, and essentials, as well as ensuring his land note (which keeps increasing) is paid so he doesn't find himself not having a spot for his home to go, he's only a missed paycheck or two away from losing everything. When my grandmother died four years ago, Grandpa went into work anyways because he couldn't afford not to. Now that someone who literally did the same job he does has been KILLED doing it, he still -- no hesitation -- is planning on getting ready to go do his next shift. Why? Because he cannot afford not to.
As long as I've known my grandfather, he's always been working. I moved in with him and my grandmother when I was in my early teens and there were no vacations, no time off, nothing for him. IHis "down time" has always ever been just him sleeping, preparing for his next shift at the farmers market.
Despite the shitty hand he's been constantly dealt, he has not one bad thing to say about anyone, anything, and continues to be resilient in his efforts of taking life's lemons and making lemonade. He always starts his next day smiling, loving his family, whole-assing everything he does, and looking forward to the next good joke he is told or the next time he'll be able to feed the ducks at the park.
As much as we'd love to put life aside to help Grandpa be in a place where he doesn't have any financial worries, no one in my family is well off as we're all either disabled (like myself) and not receiving income or we're struggling, burying ourselves in essential debt to continue existing.
Please, internet. I'm begging you. Please help my favorite person, the man who raised me, my grandfather spend the rest of his life actually getting to relax.* I honestly do not believe he knows what it is like to not have to worry about taking care of anyone or getting bills paid. He deserves rest, just like every veteran and every senior who's spent their entire lives working, and he shouldn't have to wait until death to achieve it.
