Bracelets for Bey
Handmade & custom friendship bracelets for canine cancer fundraising

My Etsy shop carries handmade friendship bracelets that raise money for my dog's cancer surgeries <3 I specialize in Taylor Swift and Dan & Phil mystery bracelet packs, and each pack is completely unique!
We also offer custom Pride bracelets in any pride flag pattern of your choice along with a custom phrase!
Don't see your fandom represented? Send me a DM here or on Etsy and I'll be happy to create something special just for you!

Bracelets for Bey started in September 2024, right before Bey's first lumpectomy that became a complete mammary gland removal. Bey will be 11 in March '25 and is scheduled to have three more small but concerning lumps removed this February. As you may or may not know, veterinary surgeries are super expensive. On top of Bey's two cancer surgeries, our other dog Ares has had two emergency bladder stone removal surgeries within the last seven days -- surgeries he would have died without. I'm hoping that my little Etsy shop can offset these staggering surgical costs. Every interaction, reblog, like, etc helps me out!

I donated my money to a local dog shelter
So yeah. I donated my b-day money (I saved it for my b-day party, but I got work so it'll not happen) to a local dog shelter. Tho after I donated, ladies from dog shelter gave me a full bag of home-made gingerbread cookies (about 10 small bags, 1 big bag) (they gave me it as a "thank you" gift).

Look at them all. So many and so beautiful awwww 🍪

Merry Christmas to you all, also for dogs (I enjoyed the cookies). Remember to help your local dog shelters. Dogs needs food and blankets ❤️✨

There are several impactful ways to help with animal welfare
Adoption and FosteringAdopting a pet from a shelter is one of the most direct ways to make a difference. Approximately 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year, but many more still need homes. Fostering is also crucial, as it opens up shelter space for additional animals in need. The Importance of Mental and Physical Stimulation for Dogs: A Comprehensive Guide
Dogs are remarkable creatures that bring joy and companionship to our lives. However, as active and intelligent beings, they require more than just food, water, and shelter to thrive. One of the most crucial aspects of a dog’s well-being is stimulation—both mental and physical. This blog will delve into why it’s essential to stimulate your dog and explore various ways to keep them engaged and happy.
Stimulation is Important for Dogs
1. **Prevents Boredom**: Dogs that lack adequate stimulation can become bored, leading to undesirable behaviors such as chewing, digging, or excessive barking. These behaviors often stem from a need to release pent-up energy and frustration.
2. **Reduces Anxiety and Stress**: Mental and physical stimulation can help alleviate anxiety in dogs. Engaging activities provide a constructive outlet for their energy, reducing nervous behaviors and promoting a sense of calm.
3. **Improves Behavior**: A well-stimulated dog is generally a better-behaved dog. Regular engagement can curb behavioral issues and encourage positive actions, leading to a more harmonious relationship between you and your pet.
4. **Enhances Cognitive Function**: Just like humans, dogs need mental challenges to keep their brains sharp. Stimulation helps maintain cognitive function and can even reduce the risk of cognitive decline as they age.
5. **Strengthens Bonding**: Participating in stimulating activities together strengthens the bond between you and your dog. Shared experiences can foster trust and deepen your relationship.
6. **Promotes Physical Health**: Physical activity is essential for a dog’s overall health. Regular exercise keeps them fit, supports healthy weight management, and reduces the risk of obesity-related health issues.
7. **Encourages Natural Behaviors**: Stimulation allows dogs to engage in natural behaviors such as hunting, foraging, and problem-solving. These activities fulfill their instinctual needs and contribute to their overall happiness.
Ways to Stimulate Your Dog:
There are numerous ways to provide mental and physical stimulation for your dog. Below are various activities and strategies that can enhance your dog’s quality of life:
1. **Daily Walks**
Taking your dog for daily walks is one of the simplest and most effective ways to provide physical exercise. Vary the routes, incorporate different environments (such as parks or trails), and allow your dog to explore new scents. Regular walks can help burn off energy and keep your dog physically fit.
2. **Interactive Play**
Engaging in interactive play with your dog strengthens your bond and provides essential stimulation. Activities like fetch, tug-of-war, and hide-and-seek can be fun and exciting for both you and your pet. Use toys that encourage participation and keep your dog engaged.
3. **Puzzle Toys**
Puzzle toys are designed to challenge a dog’s problem-solving abilities. These toys often involve hiding treats inside that dogs must figure out how to access. Puzzle toys can keep your dog mentally engaged for extended periods and are especially useful for indoor play.
4. **Training Sessions**
Training is an excellent way to stimulate your dog mentally. Teaching new commands or tricks challenges their cognitive abilities and strengthens your bond. Use positive reinforcement techniques, such as treats and praise, to encourage learning.
5. **Scent Work**
Dogs have an extraordinary sense of smell, and engaging them in scent work can be incredibly rewarding. Hide treats around the house or yard, and encourage your dog to sniff them out. You can also use scent-detection games to appeal to their natural instincts.
6. **Agility Training**
Agility training is a fun and physically stimulating activity that involves navigating obstacle courses. Set up a simple course in your backyard using cones, tunnels, and jumps. This type of training not only provides physical exercise but also challenges your dog mentally as they learn to navigate the course.
7. **Socialization**
Social interactions with other dogs and people can provide valuable stimulation. Arrange playdates with other dogs or visit dog parks where your pet can interact with a variety of canine companions. Socialization helps develop your dog’s social skills and can reduce anxiety in new situations.
8. **Dog Sports**
Consider getting involved in dog sports such as flyball, herding, or dock diving. These activities provide both mental and physical challenges while allowing your dog to work as part of a team. Plus, they can be a lot of fun for both you and your dog!
9. **Canine Enrichment Activities**
Incorporate enrichment activities into your dog’s routine to mimic natural behaviors. For instance, scatter food in the grass for foraging, use toys that dispense treats during play, or create an obstacle course using household items. These activities encourage exploration and problem-solving.
10. **Field Trips and New Experiences**
Expose your dog to new environments and experiences. Take them on adventures to the beach, hiking trails, or pet-friendly events. New sights, sounds, and smells can stimulate their senses and provide mental enrichment.
11. **Massage and Relaxation**
While physical and mental stimulation is important, relaxation is also essential for a dog’s well-being. Massaging your dog can provide comfort and relaxation, helping them destress after an active day.
12. **Rotate Toys**
Keep your dog engaged by rotating their toys regularly. Introducing “new” toys that they haven’t seen in a while can rekindle their interest and encourage play.
13. **Music and Audiobooks for Dogs**
Some dogs respond positively to music or audiobooks designed for canine listeners. Playing calming sounds can create a soothing environment and provide auditory stimulation.
Conclusion
Stimulating your dog—both mentally and physically—is crucial for their overall well-being and happiness. By incorporating a variety of activities into their daily routine, you can prevent boredom, reduce anxiety, and improve their behavior. The bond you share with your dog will strengthen through these shared experiences, leading to a more fulfilling relationship.
Ultimately, a happy dog is a well-stimulated dog. Whether it’s through walks, play, training, or new experiences, investing time in your dog’s mental and physical stimulation will pay off in countless ways. Embrace the joy of engaging with your furry friend, and watch them thrive!
The Consequences of Not Stimulating Your Dog: Understanding the Impacts of Boredom
Dogs are highly intelligent and active animals, and they require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive. When they don't receive adequate engagement, the consequences can be significant, affecting their behavior, health, and overall well-being. This blog will explore what happens when dogs lack stimulation and highlight the importance of providing them with the activities they need.
1. **Behavioral Problems**
One of the most immediate effects of insufficient stimulation is the development of behavioral issues. Dogs that are bored or under-stimulated may resort to destructive behaviors, such as:
- **Chewing**: Dogs may chew on furniture, shoes, or other household items as a way to alleviate boredom.
- **Digging**: Lack of mental engagement can lead dogs to dig in the yard or indoors, causing damage.
- **Excessive Barking**: Dogs may bark excessively out of frustration, seeking attention or trying to express their need for activity.
These behaviors are often a manifestation of a dog’s pent-up energy and frustration due to a lack of appropriate stimulation.
2. **Increased Anxiety and Stress**
Without sufficient mental and physical engagement, dogs may experience heightened anxiety and stress levels. This can manifest in several ways:
- **Restlessness**: Dogs may pace or show signs of agitation when they are bored.
- **Self-soothing Behaviors**: Some dogs may lick or groom themselves excessively as a way to cope with anxiety.
- **Destructive Actions**: In their quest to manage stress and boredom, dogs may engage in destructive behaviors, such as scratching doors or chewing on furniture.
Chronic anxiety can lead to long-term behavioral issues and negatively impact a dog's quality of life.
3. **Physical Health Problems**
A lack of physical stimulation can contribute to obesity and various related health issues. When dogs do not get enough exercise, they are more likely to gain weight, which can lead to:
- **Joint Issues**: Extra weight puts strain on a dog’s joints, increasing the risk of conditions like arthritis.
- **Heart Disease**: Obesity raises the risk of heart problems and other cardiovascular issues.
- **Diabetes**: Overweight dogs may develop diabetes, which requires significant management and can affect their overall health.
Regular exercise and stimulation are crucial for maintaining a healthy weight and preventing these health complications.
4. **Cognitive Decline**
Dogs need mental challenges to keep their minds sharp. Without stimulation, they may suffer from cognitive decline, particularly as they age. Signs of cognitive decline can include:
- **Disorientation**: Dogs may appear confused or lost in familiar environments.
- **Changes in Sleeping Patterns**: Altered sleep habits, such as increased sleeping or restlessness during the night, can occur.
- **Decreased Interest in Activities**: A lack of motivation to engage in previously enjoyed activities can indicate cognitive decline.
Engaging your dog in mental exercises, such as training or puzzle toys, is essential for promoting cognitive health.
5. **Socialization Issues**
Dogs are social animals that thrive on interaction with humans and other dogs. When they are not stimulated, they may struggle with socialization. Signs of socialization issues can include:
- **Fearfulness**: Dogs that lack exposure to different environments and experiences may become fearful or anxious in new situations.
- **Aggression**: Lack of proper social interactions can lead to aggressive behavior towards other dogs or strangers.
- **Withdrawal**: Bored or unstimulated dogs may become withdrawn, avoiding interaction and play.
Socialization is vital for a dog’s emotional health, and stimulating activities provide opportunities for positive interactions.
6. **Reduced Lifespan and Quality of Life**
Ultimately, a lack of stimulation can lead to a reduced quality of life for dogs. Boredom, anxiety, and health issues can shorten their lifespan and lead to unhappiness. Dogs need regular mental and physical engagement to remain happy and healthy.
Conclusion
Stimulating your dog—both mentally and physically—is essential for their overall well-being. The consequences of not providing adequate stimulation can include behavioral issues, anxiety, health problems, cognitive decline, and socialization challenges. By engaging your dog through walks, play, training, and interactive activities, you can enhance their quality of life and foster a happier, healthier companion.
Investing time and effort into your dog's mental and physical stimulation will pay off in the long run, leading to a stronger bond and a more fulfilling relationship. Remember, a happy dog is an engaged dog!
