I'm looking for a post that should be pretty easy to find but I can't seem to do it for the life of me and then I remembered "hey! There's a person for this!!! :D" So here I am

a rather easy one here. i went down to the Search Bar to ask Google for any post that had this exact quote mentioned, and they handed me a screenshot of what i was lookin' for. from there, i asked for posts from the last blog in the chain that included the quote they said in the post, and i got the link rather quickly, no questions asked. so, i filed it away.

Can we just fucking cut it with the anti-therapy shit here? Its not only deeply ignorant, but it's dangerous. Discouraging people from trying things to improve their mental health is a great way to prevent their mental health from improving. If you've been considering trying therapy I would greatly encourage you to give it a chance. Whether it's online, in person, or even over text which I've heard is an option now which is great for people who struggle with face to face communication of any kind.

The response to people claiming everybody needs therapy and therapy will cure all of your problems isn't a hard pivot in the other direction. Therapy works for certain people, because everyone is different. Truth is problems like depression are a vague set of commonly associated behaviors, what's actually going on in different people's brains isn't nearly as easy to map. I personally know people who consider their therapist to have saved their life, and I myself tried therapy multiple times and it's had no effect. I don't blame my therapist, I didn't work for me because it just wasn't for me and that isn't anyone's fault.

And fucking especially don't be actively antagonistic toward your therapist. I hate stories like "my therapist told me to draw what I feel and I decided to just start eating the notebook to see how he'd react and he didn't know what to do lol." If you aren't cooperating then therapy won't fucking work. They aren't wizards who cast magical mental health engoodening spells, they're specialists who's job is to help you figure out what's going on in your head and figure out ways to improve your mental state. They aren't psychics. They can't read your mind. You need to be transparent.

If you can't figure out what to draw, or how to put your feelings into words, or whatever they're asking, just fucking tell them that. The entire point of therapy is having someone to communicate with, many people become licensed therapists because they themselves went through these problems and want to help others find a way through them. I'm sick and tired of Tumblr insisting all therapists are bad because they had a bad experience with therapy 10 years ago and think all therapists act like the paid actors in better help commercials.

Also, just to end, did you go to a mental health professional who specializes in the conditions you're suffering from, or did you type therapy into Google and call the first number you saw? I promise you finding the right therapist may actually make a difference. It might not. As I said, therapy just didn't work for me after I went to multiple different therapists, but I didn't write off the practice. Just like I don't write off anti-depressants, or mediation, or aroma therapy, ECT, the human brain is a complicated puzzle and we all must find a solution that works for us.

The last thing we need to be doing is telling someone not to look where they may find a missing piece.

Okay, see, the thing about your story ending on a negative/dystopian/'despite everything that's happened nothing has changed in society' note and doing so successfully? It needs to have been set up for that in the first place, and it needs to be done in an intentional manner.

I have nothing against works that reinforce how cruel/meaningless/pointless/etc. the world is -- I enjoy a fair few! -- but the works themselves need to be some sort of commentary about it; the plot might be demonstrative of the futility of everything, but the story never should. It should take that and build on it and use it to make a statement, underscore a point, etc. to its readers. Having everything carry on business-as-usual without acknowledging it, especially in a genre that's generally meant to conclude on optimistic, uplifting, and hopeful notes, comes off as callous and in direct opposition with the values it extols.

Plus, the story itself should never be futile because, then, well, it never mattered as a work and it makes no difference if you've read it or not. Which... that's just a badly written story lmao.

yknow i'm not actually sure? the concept of entertainer, of fool, of silly over the top performers is there, actually probably more of a Thing on Velocitron, Eukaris, and Lunas 1 and 2 than most Cybertronian cultures, more in regards to rodeo clowns than circus clowns. facepaint is a thing, silly outfits could be replaced by silly kibble and temporary paint jobs. in general i don't think there's much of a cultural phenomenon of a freak show or circus that popularizes clowns? if there is a "silly clumsy stupid" archetype in performance, in today's culture it's most likely to be a junker stereotype that teaches a debateably humorous lesson about the perils of not living in line with the rules. may also end up leaning into the creepy clown aesthetic to demonize junkers a bit...

used to be the position of parody or a jester-kind of performance was more acceptable (depending on the current govt tho, there's absolutely been tyrannical regimes prior to functionism that also did not take kindly to these) but that's not the same as a clown. Micronus Prime is something of the patron god of pranks and lessons hard-learned this way, so you might say he's the deity of clowns? and Airachnid i sort of designed with a circus performer aesthetic in mind so uh. if you'd like to get stabbed, maybe call her a clown?

Current mood: wanting to block someone so I don't have to see them being an asshole on content I like, but then if I do that I miss out on any content that's reblogged from their stuff, even if I'm subscribed to the post. If the person is involved in the chain of reblogs, the whole thing vanishes from my sight. And then I miss out on good content!
