tumblr is going to implode on itself eventually, shit is not going well for them with a lot of queer people migrating to cohost and/or pillowfort, which i'd say is a good portion of their userbase, and even moreso now after a bunch of trans women getting terminated

putting 'if you can't reblog this unfollow me right now' in your posts is a great way to lose followers with OCD and prove literally nothing about whatever point you were trying to make in the mean time 🙃

Yk what dc definitely needs? An ao3 cameo bc have you seen your fan base, there is definitely some rando writing Batman/Brucie fics in Gotham because Batman Is Not beating the sugar baby allegations.
And have you seen the fucking batfam, Jason writes BatBruce fanfics whenever he feels Chaotic and Tim edits them whenever he get pissed at Bruce
Now I really want to see like fandom wars in the DCU but it's just the Batkids fighting for their ship bc they want [blank superhero] as their step parent
Imagine going on Tumblr and it's just like the same 10 blogs threatening each other because they don't agree with who's fucking batman? It'd be hilarious
Twitter fic this Twitter fic that, what about tumblr fics, huh?

at the risk of sounding incredibly cheesy… tumblr has genuinely played such a huge part in helping me grow into my multicultural identity. growing up in the us, not being religious, just generally not feeling incentivized to connect w my arab roots—all of it has contributed to me being insulated from my iraqi side for a very long time. now it’s so so different. ever since my trip, something has fundamentally changed. and seeing the people on tumblr genuinely care for palestine has also touched me so deeply. volunteering at a refugee center for middle eastern refugees was the best decision i ever made. i’m just so glad to have my biochemical makeup & to be iraqi. like i feel so fortunate. my schedule is busy but i cannot wait to buy so many history books about iraq and to just dive in. i am the luckiest girl alive

You might’ve answered already but opinion on loren?
To sum up other posts (that I can't find), she's not my favorite. There's nothing wrong with her, but she's never appealed to me.
As a kid, Loren comes off as... spunky. Like she's the support to the andalites having the real adventure, but without Chapman's intriguing dickishness. I get that some of it is Elfangor being condescending toward aliens until he unlearns his imperialism, but I don't love the implied condescension in many descriptions of her. Everyone going "whooaa, she did a thing!" when she throws a rock at Visser Three being Exhibit A, but other examples abound.
As an adult, Loren says repeatedly that she'd rather be dead than blind. Which. Okay. But it'd be a hell of a lot better if we got at least one character who isn't suicidal over being blind. (Elena is right there, btw, but she has zero lines of dialog.) As it is, there's an implied message about blindness making life meaningless that never gets explicitly contradicted in-text. Also, adult-Loren lets Tobias get neglected and abused because of her own self-worth issues. And half-assed parenting is one of my rage buttons. YMMV; I can forgive murder but draw the line at not being there for your kids.
Anyway, I do see why other people like her, but there are about 100 other Animorphs characters that I like better.

[ID: A Tumblr search for "anal". The screen shows an official notice from Tumblr that reads, "Hold your horses! These search results are likely to contain content which does not comply with Tumblr's Community Guidelines. To help keep everyone safe we're not displaying any content here." There is a 'Learn more' button.]
I hate this.
I hate the smarmy little "to help keep everyone safe", the implication that sex and sexuality are inherently unsafe. Being shielded from seeing people getting fucked in the ass does nothing in terms of actual safety and just reinforces the "sex = bad, unsafe, dirty" attitudes that are causing so much damage to a variety of communities. (Queer communities and sex workers are the first that spring to mind.)
"But Kay!" someone cries. "There might be minors using Tumblr! Surely they should be shielding from the great evils of ass fucking!"
Tumblr now has settings that you can turn on to not see sexual content. If people don't want to see sexual content, that setting is on by default; you have to dig around in your settings to turn it off.
Also... maybe this is controversial, but if someone is old enough to be on the internet unsupervised by their parents/guardians, then they're old enough to engage responsibly. The internet is not a playground, it is not inherently a child-friendly space. Fandom is not inherently a child-friendly space, Tumblr is not inherently a child-friendly space. If minors come into these spaces, they're responsible for their own experiences. (Also, c'mon, guys. Have you never met a teenager? Many of them, including myself when I was a teen, are actively seeking out sexual content. I don't want to hear from teenagers reading my smut, but I think it's foolish to act like teenagers are paragons of purity and not currently having their bodies and brains explode with hormones.)
It just seems to insidious to imply that lack of sexuality is inherently safe, that shoving sex to dark corners and pulling a sheet over it makes everything so much safer for everyone.
It doesn't. It makes sex secret and shameful, makes it harder to talk about, makes it harder to find information, makes it harder to discover things about yourself.
And it's not just images. A search for "erotica" receives the same result: Tumblr's smarmy little warning and absolutely nothing else.

I never post discourse but this time I am because I am annoyed :)
hey if any of you twitter people find my post about the accessible signs on here. y’alls reading comprehension in the negatives for real
let me stress once again this primarily is about Accessibility. personalization means nothing if the text can’t even be read. it literally does not matter if another cc had the idea to personalize the signs too, bro be serious that is such a common idea, I bet all of us have had it before, I have had it before. but this is about ACCESSIBILITY. the title of the post SAYS that, not “oooh look at the pretty sign ideas!” context is clearly in the post and the thread.
Bad saw that chatter’s message and immediately got to work to make the signs more accessible. he spent like two hours talking personally to this person to figure out a solution that would work for them- the customization is a fun little bonus. gosh I know it’s a lot to ask, but maybe acknowledge when people do good things? :0
because if your first thought when seeing this is to make up an imaginary competition, discredit someone’s work, and disregard the feelings of the chatter + the main focus of this change which is an inclusive accessibility feature for visually impaired viewers, you need to self-reflect.
if you have twitter, please send some love to this thread and to the user who suggested these changes @/AngelYoonki
edit: new clip thread
edit #2: thank you ricardão :]

I rarely go to xwitter these days, but I went there to post some art, and boy, is fun actually not allowed over there, or did it just completely turn into Endless Whining Website? I skimmed through some Veilguard posts and was kind of shocked by endless complaining and bitching with tens of likes in replies instead of any kind of variety in opinions.
I'm not gonna claim that Veilguard is going to be some sort of masterpiece, because it's not fucking out yet and I didn't play it, but I changed my mind from being highly apprehensive about it since it took so long, went through so much trouble and initially was called "Dreadwolf", and I'm genuinely tired of anything and everything being about Solas all the time, to being excited about it because oh, it's actually happening! A new game in a series I've been playing and enjoying since I was 14! And I'm 26 now! It's actually a game and not another minute long slideshow with Varric's narration about, you guessed it, Solas and nothing else.
Right now I'm moderately excited about it, but that's just me, and the hype and the positive reception of news about it are actully really contagious to me. You can be apprehensive and look at it through critical lense for good and fair reasons, but honestly? I recall the same sort of bitching about Inquisition back in 2013. Every character was called ugly, "What the fuck is this artstyle" and fifty thousand complaints that it's not Origins, and I think people should really let go of that last one, take their rose tinted glasses off and finally move on and see that the series wasn't perfect at any point and that it was different and troubled each time. People should let Origins rest and go play BG3 or something instead of wasting their time complaining that a new game isn't the old game.

Ok so. Run down of “Today on Tumblr” for those who just got it or have just discovered it.
“Today on Tumblr” seems to be a blog focusing on whatever is big and popular on the site so far (but in a what seems to be -mainstream- kinda way). Examples of this are “The Last of Us” and “Taylor Swift”
It both reblogs and posts about these “Big and Popular” subjects.
It’s taken over what -was- our “for you” page. In a sense that the “for you” page is now the “today” page.
Blocking it will do nothing. It is a Tumblr-Company-Made-Blog so reporting it won’t do anything either. You will still see it in the “Explore” page regardless of what you do.
There is no way to turn it off.
You can still find the “For you” page on your dashboard. It might be under a “More” tab
Why did tumblr do this?
I don’t know. They’re prolly trying to make this place more mainstream and like other sites again.
Edit: Ok I went and checked the today page. It’s not -just- mainstream as today they’re talking about frogs.
