TIME TO SPEW OPINIONS (Companion Edition):

Rose was a great companion who worked really well with 9 and 10. Her personality really helped exaggerate the Doctor's sass and later his emo-ness as 10. She was super brave and very willing to act on her beliefs. (even standing up to the Doctor)

Martha was unfortunately overshadowed in the Doctor's mind by the loss of Rose (L) but she is a GREAT character who had strong opinions and wasn't afraid to tell the Doctor he was wrong or fucked up.

Donna was a great partner to the Doctor with their bickering back and forth. She would readily challenge him but would also play off of him with her own specializations (The calendar in The Doctor's Daughter, The planets in the stolen planet bits)

I have my own issues with Moffat's writing so I'll leave out things that I believe to be "Moffat Issues" and not individual character issues.

Amy was an interesting character who seemed to understand the Doctor more than some of the other companions. This, combined with the new lease on life that was the 11th Doctor really let Amy be both serious and goofy playing off of the silliness of the Doctor.

Rory felt like kind of a side note until he died the first time. When he came back he was a main character kind of guy. His main priority was always Amy, even when there was other things going on, and I REALLY like him.

River isn't really a companion, she's more of a side character. River feels like she was kind of shoehorned in to some of the Doctor's lore in earlier seasons, but by the time she arrived in the Capaldi era for the Christmas special it felt like she was actually someone that the Doctor would like. Before then it almost felt like she was just there for drama. Her appearance in Silence in the Library was interesting and made her character someone to be excited for, but her appearance in The Impossible Astronaut felt kinda of dramatic for me. (not that drama is a bad thing, just my preference) I'm not really a fan.

Clara... I've written essays on why I don't like Clara's character. I think she's well written, especially when we get into series 8 territory, but I also very much HATE her as a person. Her struggle with 11's regeneration is understandable, but the way she treats 12 hurts me a little bit. The 12th Doctor definitely doesn't help Clara's ego when he makes her choose things for the entire planet Earth (Kill the Moon) but by the time Dark Water rolls around her ego is so big it could have BEEN the moon. Spoilers BTW: Oops her boyfriend dies. She's like "OH, I have a time travelling friend I love and care about, he has nothing to do with anything related to this horrible thing that just happened to me so let's threaten to strand him on this planet forever if he doesn't help me undo an event that I already witnessed" What in her mind tells her to do this. I get it, you're mentally ill and grieving. I hate her. Not only did she think of the idea of stranding him on Earth to be fine, but she also TRIED. She tried to drug him and strand him. The idea that he was ok with that kind of put me off a bit. Him forgiving her aside, she also told him that anything Missy did ever was his fault, which is INSANE. I know Missy did some terrible shit to her boyfriend but Clara using this to guilt the Doctor into MURDERING Missy is insane. If she had a spine, she would have done it herself before he got in between them. Anyway I'm glad she died of her hubris. (I could go on)

Bill Potts is my scrungly and she was SO perfect for the 12th Doctor. Their conflict in Thin Ice really nailed down how different the Doctor is from their human companions and emphasized that he's not morally perfect all the time. His hands aren't clean and she knows that, but she also knows that he has good hearts and wants the best for humanity. They have a very grandpa/granddaughter kind of thing going on, which I think works super well with the grumpy 12th Doctor. They're fun, they get along, and in the end it's the Doctor's confidence in his own ability that gets her killed (at first). Bill did nothing wrong ever.

Graham and Ryan are generally ok. I'm putting them in one section because I don't really feel much about either of them. They each have like 3 character traits and nothing else. I feel ways about Chibnall's writing, but I feel like the crowded TARDIS was a bad idea and if it was going to be crowded I might have preferred that Grace be there. I don't dislike Ryan or Graham but a lot of the things they do (particularly Ryan) seem to be for the plot and have nothing to do with their personalities. In the first two episodes Ryan shows some impulse control issues, (touching a shiny alien thing in the woods, and running out to shoot robots with a gun). Graham shows some anger management issues when it comes to emotional things a couple times(The Woman Who Fell to Earth, The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos)

Dan was a great short-term companion. He had what... 4 stories total? His personality was good and he fit in well with Yaz and the Doctor. He was sarcastic, and missed his crush. He had guts, running around with a wok in Liverpool during an alien invasion.

Yaz. I have feelings about Yaz. If only they had decided to make her crush on the Doctor apparently BEFORE series 13, it would have allowed them more than 3 episodes to deal with it. With what little reference there was to it in The Flux, there was maybe 4 lines and some screentime in the new years dalek episode for that season, and a 2-3 scene reference in the sea devils return episode. That, combined with her saving the Doctor's ass in Power of the Doctor, it feels like this was shoehorned in after audience response, which is almost never a good idea. Otherwise Yaz is a generally ok character with little to argue about, and not enough to her for me to dislike. I do feel like they used Power of the Doctor as the stock standard "companion who has a crush on the Doctor saves their ass" that all these types of companions get at some point. It just feels like it was decided late and they realized that they didn't have one.

Anyway, writing some of these opinions made me feel like it was 2014 again and I didn't like rose because I liked the 10th Doctor. Ofc some of these opinions are from a place of "oh no! They hurt the scrungly!" I did not read this before posting, I just WENT.

P.S. Also I have feelings about the Master, I'll post those later.

P.P.S Also I have watched some of classic who but there's a lot of it so I just skip around to whatever bits sound the most interesting at the time.

Age of the Batch

This has been on my mind lately

Getting a few things out of the way. None of their wookiepedia pages state how old they are (not given a BBY year). If you simply look up their ages, it places Omega at 12 years (which is confirmed unless I dreamt that), and the batch at 13 (which is incorrect). We also know the oldest clones are 13 (26) by the end of the war.

Omega is older than the batch; Which crosses out the possibility of them being 13/Gen Ones. This means the oldest they could be is 12 (24) by the end of the war. We also know Omega was old enough to remember seeing the mutations of the batch get enhanced. So the question arose of what was the youngest age Omega could consciously remember that and also be an effective lab assist? Around three or four would be the youngest.

When Omega is explaining to the batch, she tells them '...sent to be with the other clones.' Does this infer they went back to their growth jars in those giant rooms, or out consciously? Since we know Omega is able to remember their mutations being done, that means the batch did not initially have all their mutations and had to be modified later in development. (Which complicates things based on the nature of how genetic mutations work). But that's a lot to get into at this moment and I'll spare you that rant because maker I could go on.

If the oldest the batch could be is 12, that would mean their got their mutations at age 2 (4) at the earliest. However, I feel like there is an emphasis on Omega being older than them, not the same age. We can infer the batch did not join the war right away because of the time of their introduction.

I feel it is more likely for the batch to be closer to 11 (22) by the end of the war. That would place them at 8 (16) years at the start of the war, and maybe they didn't make their debut in the war until a year later at 9 (18). This also puts Omega at a standard 4 years older, this makes the most sense because then she would be old enough to remember them being created and getting genetically enhanced during a time in development that's actually scientifically feasible.

If they were making their marks as extremely effective soldiers, who's to say they weren't rushed off to war prematurely. It is said in The Clone Wars that young clones were rushed into service before their 10-year training span was up, and the batch was likely a part of those groups.

So I started binging InuYasha lately and spoiler warning

Actually fucking horrified by the amount of people in the fandom who think shipping Sesshomaru with Rin is ok. Like Yashahime… certainly exists but what in the actual hell. Sesshomaru started letting Rin travel with him when she was like anywhere from 6-10 based on her character design and personality; and I’m supposed to believe that him dropping her off in Kaede’s village (and still sending her gifts and checking in while she grows up mind you) only to later marry and have children with her when she’s 16-18 is ok????? Whoever decided that that was something that should happen should be put in fucking jail I don’t care. And no one even try to argue that “they’re soulmates” or “it’s not grooming they fell in love!” because shut the fuck up, Rin talks about wanting to be with him forever when she’s literally a small child and he hears this. An adult deciding to persue a relationship with that kind of inherent power dynamic even if that person becomes “of age” is disgusting. The twins are cute but people who ship Sesshomaru and Rin need to be booed out of existence. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I've seen both Mufasa 2024 and HB several times having their writing and plots compared to "fanfiction" and obviously it's an insult and people never go any deeper than that but I'm tired of accepting that fanfic-y plots aren't hella cool sometimes and that it's all the same bc it's really not and also man it's really not that deep in the end oh my God

Bc you know what. We write/read fanfiction bc we want silly guilty pleasures that we rarely see in "professional" writing and we want to see those cool tropes happening. But then when those tropes do happen people complain that it isn't professional enough??? So what the fuck do you want then

Like Loona having a demon feral wolf form is PEAK deviantart 2012 furry fanfic headcannon but also. That's so fucking cool man. I love her. People ask oh why does she have a demon form but man why should she NOT. Yeah you'd see it in fanfics but isnt that bc we want it. It's in character and in universe and it's cool and I love it bc it's so random but it doesn't destroy the universe and it's COOL it really doesn't go deeper than that man

Meanwhile Mufasa writing is fanfic-y in the way that it has a lot of tropes that you see in TLK fanfiction (white lions, made up lion biology, etc) but it's also BAD bc it's sooo badly connected and the pacing is terrible but also they don't even DO anything cool with it. It doesn't do anything new or exciting with the wacky ideas they decide to use. It doesn't do anything cool with white lions. It doesn't do anything cool with Mufasa being adopted. All comes and goes and leaves no impact.

It'd be the same if they'd randomly introduced Loona's wolf form while she was on the phone or smth. Literally nobody would find that cool the way we are now bc it's hella cool THE WAY they did it

Like fanfics can be bad or good and that's fine bc the only reason they exist is to be self-serving and I give them all the right to be as dumb and as badly written as they deserve and for some people it's just stress relief and some people are literally 11yos having fun. Do whatever you want

But when you have some kind of production then yeah, we expect some level of quality. I just don't think that being "fanfiction level / fanfic-y" is inherently bad you know. It's about how you use it

Both Loona being a feral demon and the whole Mufasa movie have a lot of fanfic tropes but one of them used it in cool ways and the other used it in dumb ways but the tropes themselves aren't the problem you know

I just don't think that fanfic tropes are inherently bad and I'm tired of acting as if they are. Fuck I love THE LION GUARD over Mufasa because The lion guard actually does cool stuff with whatever they did and embraced it being as insane as it is while Mufasa just threw random stuff and didn't do anything with the tropes they used. I would be SO INTO Mufasa having white lions and ghosts and magic and fights and lion monarchies if they bothered to do anything cool with it.

I don't know man. It's not that deep. Sometimes stuff can be silly but also cool. Media can be silly and fanfic-y as long as they write it in a cool way. Which Helluva Boss did and Mufasa didn't and that's the point

Thank you so much for recommending this meta for me it was really eye opening. I have always noticed that gege used this idea of hunger and consumption as an extended metaphor for sukuna throughout the story but that meta highlighted and explained it so beautifully.

Sukuna's habits are his flaws and also the whole hunger and consumption metaphor is Hella ironic and contradicts sukunas character in an interesting way. Sukuna has long given up on the idea of wanting to be human or trying to mimick them. However, during his fight with jogo in shibuya he did admit that he saw and understood the appeal, however he came to the conclusion that strength and true power can only be gained through solidarity. Sukuna believed that he can only grow by burning everything that opposes him or he doesn't like but that doesn't mean that sukuna doesn't crave human interaction. Oh he totally does but he receives human interaction in odd ways like torturing and eating them.

I find it very interesting how one thing sukuna cant get really bored of us humans. They always manage to suprise him from the way they act to the way they taste. Sukuna has stated that every human tastes different. Gege again using the extended metaphor of hunger and consumption makes sukuna say this to show sukunas quite unhealthy way of interacting with things and how he honestly has come to mirror the childhood he lived. In all honesty sukuna may see consuming a human as the most merciful thing he could do to someone and it may be true considering that he doesn't actually hate his twin (he has never expressed dislike to him).

However, what really caught my eye was the op's talk about how sukuna probably experienced what true starvation and powerlessness is so every time he talks to yuji about giving up and powerlessness it's almost as if something in him is being irritated without him knowing why. This could be because he has genuinely forgot his powerlessness by burning it all away so the feeling has become foreign to him until he ended up sharing a body with yuji that is.

Also the idea of sukuna rising from ashes and becoming a fully extinguished monster that has abandoned love kind of reminds me of maki.

Welcome and Merry Christmas Eve!

Today, I will talk about Wish fullfilment relationship vs. Stolitz, what is a wish fullfilment relationship and why Stolitz fails to be that even tho it's trying to be that. I've actually written this/similar rant before, but I'm choosing to rewrite it, because the original was kinda ass.

So first of all what do I mean by Wish fullfilment relationship?

It's a type of fictional relationship, where the characters are together essentially because they plan into one of the many wish fullfilment fantasy tropes, like the following list. Keep in mind that while I use the word man a lot here, it's just because these tropes are more common in romantic media targeted towards women. These tropes can actually be any gender.

An interesting man coming to take you out of the mundane.

A rich man falling in love with a poor woman.

A vampire falling in love with the reader/protagonist.

A high ranking executive falling for the new hire.

The mafia boss showering the waitress with gifts and love.

All the "I got bought by 1D" stories

Two hot men fighting for the "just an average girl" protagonist

These are the common tropes and you can already see in romance media that serves to fulfil some sort of fantasy the reader has or may have. That's their purpose. I don't think any of you want these to actually happen to you, except marrying a rich person, because in this economy it may be the only way to live comfortably.

Now where does Stolitz fail that fantasy?

Remember 50 Shades? Yeah? You would probably rather not, but I will bring it up since I think the dynamic is kinda similar, just with magic instead of money. Also keep in mind I'll go with what I heard about the 50 Shades, because I haven't actually read it, since it's not my cup of tea.

The book really badly portrays BDSM relationships, but also it has a hot attractive, rich man love interest and that's kinda Stolas. Is there something wrong with a rich person getting together with someone poor? Not inherently, yes, the class difference is real, but again, nothing actually wrong with that.

Where both materials fail is that the rich love interest of status the audience is supposed to yearn for is a complete asshole. And in Stolas's case, it would have been OK, IF HE HAD REMAINED A VILLAIN AND YOU WERE TO ROOT FOR BLITZØ TO BREAK UP WITH HIM.

Like... This relationship is a toxic cesspool just like 50 Shades and Twilight. And that's partially because it tries to put in the kinda yaoi, kinda just a general trope of two people who continually are bad ti eachother but "Are actually in love don't worry!"

Like, Stolas makes Blitzø uncomfortable a lot.

Up until Ozzie's or their break-up episode the relationship was just... Transactional. It was just Blitzø inserting his card into the terminal and then fucking off.

Stolas embarrasses Blitzø in public.

Stolas essentially forced Blitzø into the transactional relationship.

Yes, Blitzø isn't all innocent in this, it's just that what Stolas did sticks out a lot more than Blitzø's actions in the relationship. Like, it should have been Stolas who did the apologising in Apology Tour kind of sticking out.

Could this ship be better?

Yes, with a little tool called "Stick to your guns, make it the most high school type fic ever."

Because this ship, doesn't work outside of wish fullfilment and that flew out the window moment the ship became serious. So just... Just make it unserious.

Cross out the actual abuse. Write is like the highschooler's first yaoi fic it's supposed to be. Have them annoy eachother, but be tame. Remove the transactional fucking.

Make this ship cringe.

Make Stolitz the "I got bought by 1D" it's supposed to be!

Denial is a river in Egypt, Helluva Boss is the most highschool type series marketing itself mature ever, lean into it!

Have Andrealphus tell Stela "Denial is s river in Egypt, your husband is gay!" GIVE STELA A LESBIAN AWAKENING ARCH AND A HOT GF, LIKE VEROSIKA!

Tldr; Stolitz is bad wish fullfilment fantasy and would be better if written like those baby author's first AO3 fic.
