BEHIND THE SCENES DETAILS
➡A PART TWO TO THIS POST⬅
Continued below the cut cause I continue not to be normal about it.
CASINO HEIST
The only room in the starlight I didn't get to feature was the morgue- located directly behind the basement pool room. I was flying around in TAB mode and I jumpscared the hell out of myself when this townie was tending this 'bar' alone in this room like the blair witch project.
Tiny out of frame sink so poppy can brush her teeth here.
OFF TOPIC: In that same vein, whenever I want to have a 'meeting' with my sims, I place a tiny TOOL'ed down TV behind the speaker's head and have them all watch it.
I posed out a face for Val but the height slider was contorting it in a way i hated so I just said fuck it. When I unpaused he made the best in game face immediately after and I'm obsessed with it. It was perfect and he got a gold star for that. Sometimes the sims surprises me.
The elevator on the top floor of the Starlight is only 1x2 tiles, so I had to greenscreen in a fake elevator interior, which is why the reflections don't match up 😂
I actually shot the whole elevator scene in a floating copy in the basement.
Before and After. This effect is called Frozen_Child_Head btw.
When @doctorsimcraft built Senga's office, she referenced the IRL manager's office at Binion's Casino. The upside down horseshoe above the desk letting you know that this is the place your luck finally runs out.
This fight took me 3 weeks to pose out and get looking decent in game because of the extreme height difference between Henry and Poppy. I still hate it.
Glass Onion Reference.
I had around 50 effects players running for the final fight. Turns out if you do this and you go into CAS or BB even once your game will become basically non responsive. I quit out and reloaded an upsetting amount of times to get this scene shot.
The Flooded Version of the Vault was shot on a different lot using the pond tool trick and lowering the floor down one platform height to get the illusion of the room being flooded with pool water.
Tiny Alejandro.
Before and After.
Chad in the mirror!
The little handcuff hold!!!
Real Lucky there was a ginger officer on staff that day huh Val
Sade's Old Room.
I'll try to do another one of these when we finish Gen 6! Someday. lol Hope it was interesting!

Chapter 3- The Business
Summary: On June 6, 1944, D-Day, C47’s with thousands of paratroopers cross the English Channel to France, where they come under heavy fire. None of you land where you’re expected to, and many lose their weapons and supplies in the drop. Even worse, you are separated from Liebgott. Fortunately, you do land near LT Winters, who links up with solitary soldiers, then set off to find other units.
A/N: Mature audience, Joe LiebgottxFem!Medic, post D-Day, She/Her Pronouns, Y/F/N, Y/L/N, Cursing/Swearing, Enemies to friends, Derogatory Slurs, Womanizing Comments, Aggression, Angst, Confrontation, Military Terminology, 1940’s slang, Inappropriate Nicknames, Band of Brothers References, Mentions of Weaponry, Wounds/Injuries, Smoking, Crying, Banter, Pining, FLUFF Chapter takes place 1x2 Day of Days & 1x3 very early Carentan
*These stories may not fall entirely in accordance with the TV series timeline. I do not know the real soldiers the actors portray in this series, so please understand I show no disrespect. Some or most of the historical events and character interactions in my fanfics are fabricated purely for the sake of the enjoyment of fiction*
~~~~~~~
“Y/L/N! Winters shout whispers to you, waving you over to come to him.
You had landed in the middle of a field, tall grass quite overgrown, and dark as hell. You gather your chute to keep the wind from pulling you off, then hurry over to him.
“You ok, corporal?” Winters asked.
“Yes, sir.” You respond no louder than anyone but him to hear.
Although you say you’re physically ok, your internal activity is utter chaos. Your eyes were constantly on the move from left to right looking for German threats, your fellow jumpers...but most importantly for Liebgott.
During the flight, you were sitting directly across from him. You secretly wished to be next to him so you could land closer to eachother after the drop. Instead, you jumped right before LT Winters, whereas Liebgott jumped and probably landed long before you had left the plane.
Another soldier about ten feet away hustled over.
“Flash!” Winters called out.
“Shit!” The unknown soldier responded.
“I don't think that's the correct reply, trooper. I say 'flash,’ you say ‘thunder.’” Winters advised him.
“Yessir.” The soldier replied nervously.
The unfamiliar soldier was Private John Hall from Able Company. He was the radio man until he lost his radio in the jump. Nobody landed where they were supposed to, and it was clear that everyone was scattered.
You remained to the rear of Hall and Winters to secure behind you in case any Germans approached from behind. The three of you make it to a tree line and enter the woods to get some proper concealment.
“We'll locate some landmarks to get our bearings. Keep your eyes peeled for buildings, farmhouses, bridges, roads, trees.” Winter instructed.
You hear a rustle in the thicket across the stream from where you had been walking. Winters motioned for you all to camouflage yourselves against the brush of some bushes. Winters takes his clicker, then signals to who he deduced were American soldiers by clicking twice. Four clicks in response confirmed they were Easy Company members.
“Lieutenant Winters, is that you?” Lipton questioned.
Sergeant Lipton along with two paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne crossed the stream and you all kneeled in a circle to figure out the next course of action.
“Sir, I saw a sign back that aways, said, ‘Sainte-Mère-Église.’” Lipton declared.
Winters pulled out a map, flashlight and small compass, while an 82nd troop threw a raincoat over him for light control so not to give away your position.
Winters stated it was at least a four hour walk to the assembly point, so you all got walking. You run into Privates Malarkey and Rob “Popeye” Wynn, as well as Corporal Joe Toye.
Easy Company began greeting eachother, relieved to see that some of you made it safe to the ground. Toye gave you a few heavy pats on the back.
“Son of a bitch! You made it, doll!” Toye acknowledged, impressed by your gumption to survive such a vicious drop.
“Good to see you, L/N!” Malarkey was all smiles as he brought you in for a one-armed hug.
When you pulled away, his facial expression turned uneasy.
“Seen Joe?” He asked concerned.
You could only shake your head, too afraid to speak about it outloud so not to make the worst-case scenario a reality.
Malarkey put a hand on your shoulder giving you an encouraging squeeze.
“I’m sure he’s fine.” He whispered to you. You each exchange weak smiles.
You start the convoy following the train tracks to your next destination. As you’re walking you hear another rustle from behind.
“Flash!” Winters called.
“Thunder! LT Winters? Is that you? Malarkey?” A very familiar voice responded.
Fire and bile bubbled in the pit of your stomach...Guarnere. Just what you needed. You yearned for Liebgott to be here with you now that Guarnere had joined up with you guys.
“Hey, fellas!! Good to see ya, Lark! Toye!” Guarnere beamed.
As soon as he saw you, he grimaced, spit at the ground the turned around to face Winters.
“Guarnere, keep moving. You and Hall up front.” Winters directed.
After an unfortunate run in with a group of Germans, you push forward towards Sainte-Mère-Église.
It was the longest night ever but as daylight broke, you come upon what looks to be a small farm with several dead Germans lying under a dead paratrooper hanging by his parachute cords from a tree. The group scrounge any supplies left from the casualties, then continued the trek to the assembly point.
Finally, you see in the short distance where the rallying point is. A small town with bombed out buildings served as an assembly point for the Regiment to regroup. After you pass the cow carcasses made to be a makeshift check point at the entrance of the village, you inadvertently start trailing your team as you desperately scoured the main street for Liebgott.
Your heart began to sink into a whirlpool of despair. Your chest starts to tighten as tears begin to cloud your vision causing the world to close in on you. The voices of the men around you are muffled and distant. You wouldn’t even know or care if any of them were speaking directly to you because it felt like everything was crumbling around you. All because Joe was nowhere to be seen or heard.
Lost in your own underworld, ready to yield to what you thought was the inevitable, you clearly hear a single voice that heaves you from your sorrowful conviction.
“Easy Company!” You hear through the crowd.
Only Joe Liebgott’s voice could revive you from this morbid state.
“That has to be him!” You think to yourself.
Your breath hitched as you frantically searched for him. So many men wearing the same uniform made it almost impossible to tell one from the other. Your ability to speak was muted by distress, you couldn’t even bring yourself to call out to him. You almost thought you imagined hearing him at all, until at last, you look ahead up the road, and off to the side, you see him. A wave of relief rains onto you as you stand there stunned.
He shakes Guarnere’s hand.
“Bill! Good to see ya.” Liebgott gestured with a smile.
His expression shifted to concern when he didn’t see you right away. He started to push through the crowd in hopes of finding you. The guys parted a path for him to see you at the other end of the street, motionless as your eyes finally meet.
Joe, excitement spreading across his face, hurried to you. Your legs fail you, bringing you to the ground on your hands and knees.
“Y/F/N!” Liebgott wailed as he broke into a full-on sprint towards you.
When he reached you, he threw himself to his knees in front of you scooping you into his arms.
“Y/N?? Look at me! Are you hurt?”
He brought his face level with yours, trying to look at you. When you finally look up, he held your head between his strong hands to keep your face straight towards his. Tear streaks stained your filthy cheeks. Puzzled, he tilted his head studying you. He took the sleeve of his uniform and gently wiped your face and with his other hand cradled your head. You bring your hands up and hold his hand that supported your head, leaning into his touch.
He looks you over, trying to find any signs of injury. He looks upon you fervently, affectionately running his thumb across your cheekbone. He’s waiting for you say something, anything to reassure him that you’re ok.
Your tears continue to flow, but you’re smiling.
Liebgott chuckled from confusion.
“Y/N, why the hell are you crying?” He asked you.
After a long pause, and a much-needed exhale after holding your breath for so long, you say,
“I thought I’d never see you again...”
He was pleasantly shocked by your response, not to mention absolutely elated. His smug grin surfaced as he gently helped you to your feet.
His hands gripped your shoulders keeping you stable while your hands rested on his chest. He tenderly shifted your head side to side by your chin to examine your face for any scratches or abrasions...or he wanted an excuse to look at you which was likely the case.
“Don’t worry, I ain’t goin’ nowhere.” He stated with that unmistakable confidence.
He smiled at you then winked, sending you into a flutter of euphoria.
“So, you missed me, huh?” He added.
You punch him in the shoulder then hug eachother like you’re not right in the middle of a gruesome invasion of Europe.
But you had missed him. You were afraid for him...terrified. Joe had an unshakable presence of rage that drove him straight to the center of danger with no regard for his own well-being. His love language was sarcasm and any form of banter, so if he ever did feel fear, it was never terribly noticeable.
It didn’t matter right now, though. You finally found Joe. Nothing or nobody else was more important.
~~~~~~~
Winters was told to select some men and lead an assault on a French estate called Brécourt, about 300 yards from where you all were rallied. The Germans have installed four 88mm antitank cannons that were firing directly on Utah Beach and inflicting heavy casualties. Easy Company’s objective was to flank the Germans from behind and demobilize them so American soldiers had safe passage onto the beachhead.
Only having 13 Easy Company members accounted for, this left them having to borrow men from other companies that they picked up on the way to the town after the drop.
Winters addressed the 13 troops that were selected to go on this next mission. This included Liebgott and yourself.
“The 88s we’ve been hearing have been spotted in a field down the road a ways. Major Strayer wants us to take them out.”
He had a sheet of blank paper with a map in the center of the circle of soldiers.
“There are two guns that we know of firing on Utah Beach.” Winters drew x’s on the paper signifying where they were located then continued.
“Plan on a third and fourth here and here.” He drew two more x’s before proceeding.
“The Germans are in the trenches with access to the entire battery. With machine gun covering the rear. We’ll establish a base of fire and move under it hard and fast with two squads of three.”
“How many Krauts they think we’re facing?” Guarnere interrupted.
Winters paused.
“No idea.” He responded.
“No idea?” Guarnere retorted while rolling his eyes.
Winters returned to the brief disregarding Guarnere’s passive attitude.
“We’ll take some TNT along with us. Despite the guns. Lipton, your responsibility.”
“Yes, sir.” Lipton replied.
“Liebgott, you’ll take the first machine gun, with Petty A-gunner.” Winters instructed. Liebgott only nodded.
“Plesha, Hendrix, you take over the other. Who does that leave?” Winters asked collectively.
You, Malarkey, Toye, Guarnere, and Compton raise your hands.
“Okay. Well be making the main assault. Understood?” Winter added.
You collectively replied “Yes, sir.”
“Alright, let’s pack it up.” Winter ordered.
You all gather outside to prepare your gear. Winters approached you as you crouched organizing your med supplies.
“Y/L/N.”
“Sir?” You say standing quickly, facing Winters.
“I’ll need you more towards the rear, so we have the best chance of maintaining our medical assist in case anyone gets hurt.” Winters ordered.
“But, sir-” You began.
“Remain to the rear.” Winters repeated sternly before you could finish.
You look at him wanting to protest his order, but only sigh reluctantly.
“To the rear.” You confirmed.
You return to prepacking your gear begrudgingly. Liebgott watched you and chuckled.
“What?” You ask him.
He looked over to you.
“You’re cute when you're upset.” He admitted.
Unamused, you decide not to dignify with comment and keep packing your stuff.
~~~~~~~
“MEDIC!!” You hear from a distance after heavy gunfire and explosions unleash relentlessly onto Easy.
You run and duck, racing in the direction of the yelling, weaving and bobbing trying to avoid getting hit by any oncoming enemy fire. You couldn’t hear anything except your own heartbeat as you ran, but managed to find the spot where you were needed.
You jump feet first into the trench, finding Guarnere, Compton, and Lorraine, with ‘Popeye’ Wynn lying on his side crying out in pain.
“I’m sorry, sir!!” Wynn kept yelling.
“Where you hit, Pop?” You shouted.
“Right in the ass!” He yelped.
Compton, Guarnere, and Lorraine laid suppressive fire while you worked on Wynn.
“Lay on your stomach, Pop, I need to see!” You direct him helping turn over onto his front.
You cut through the hole on the seat Wynn’s pants where the bullet made contact, exposing the wound.
“Goddam it, I’m sorry, sir, I didn’t mean to fuck up!” Wynn called out to Compton.
“Pop, just stay still! You’re gonna be fine, buddy.” You tell him as you applied pressure to his wound reaching for your clot powder and bandages.
You project your voice to Wynn, but it’s calm and steady so not to alarm him. The slightest hint of terror in your voice only makes things worse for the wounded was something Doc Roe told you.
“You think you can make it back yourself?” Compton shouted out to you and Wynn.
You both look up at him.
“I think so, sir!” Wynn responded.
“I’m not goin’ anywhere, sir.” You declared.
Corporal Y/L/N, you’re going with Pop to make sure he gets back!” Compton ordered.
“With all due respect, sir, I’m needed here. I’m staying!” You argued as you helped Wynn to his feet to shove him out of the trench.
Compton grunted in frustration.
“He wasn’t asking ya, he was tellin’ ya.” Guarnere snapped at you.
“And I wasn’t talkin’ to you, Guarnere! You just hold the line while I do my job!” You returned with ice in your voice. You carefully crawl out of the trench to go find anyone else that might need your help.
Guarnere scoffed to himself amused by your response.
~~~~~~~
Easy Company along with Spiers’ Dog Company claimed victory at Brécourt, securing the beachhead.
As the two units walked back to the assembly point back at the town, Liebgott caught up with you.
“Hey, Y/N, you alright?” He asked right away. He looked you over and noticed blood stains on your uniform.
You sense his panic, “Don’t worry, it’s not mine. I’m fine, Joe.” You reassure.
He exhaled then gave your shoulder a gentle squeeze, smiling at you when you looked at him.
“Good.” He replied. “I’ll find you later, Gams.” He added with a wink, then rushed off ahead.
You laugh to yourself, a fuzzy feeling rising within you that only Joe could produce after such a horrific situation.
~~~~~~~
That night was spent recovering. The following day orders were given to maneuver to take Carentan where German soldiers were being sheltered. Carentan was the main crossroad between Cotentin and Calvados where the ally force’s tanks needed passage to attack the main objective, Cherbourg.
“Listen up!” LT Welsh shouted. “It'll be dark soon. I want light and noise discipline from here on. No talking, no smoking. And no playing grab-fanny with the man in front of you, Luz. We're taking Carentan. It's the only place where armor from Omaha and Utah Beach can link up and head inland. Until we take Carentan, they're stuck on the sand. General Taylor's sending the whole division.”
Some of the men begin to grumble under their breath. Everyone started to stir to gather their gear to begin the journey to Carentan.
Walking in a file formation on each side of the road to Carentan, Liebgott makes sure to keep you in his peripherals. You’re behind Toye, who’s talking to Guarnere in front of him.
“Heard Y/L/N gave you the business back at Brécourt, Bill.” Toye teased him.
“Ah shit, Toye, why?” You whispered to him, not thrilled about the instigation.
Guarnere was unusually quiet at first. Probably thinking of something snarky to say about you.
“She sure did, Joe.” He finally responded almost warmly.
Guarnere looked back at you giving you a small smirk before he added, “Ya did good out there, kid.” He complimented you.
You were surprised to say the least. You’ve earned Guarnere’s respect because you didn’t allow his indifference towards you to break you during combat. Not only did you not allow him to shake you, but you also dished some attitude in return, reminding him to keep his focus on the battle. Things were going to be different between you and ‘Wild Bill’ Guarnere. ~~~~~~~
I made a post a while ago about how ttpd is the perfect loustat album. Long story short it then evolved into this playlist.
Notes on each song choice under the cut (because I'm insane and they're long):
1. Guilty as Sin? - POV Louis Ep 1x1 In throes of increasing wonder... it's all about desire and religious guilt.
2. But Daddy I Love Him - POV Louis Ep 1x1 "He ain't white, he french." Ep 1x2 "He had a way about him" He was chaos, he was revelry. Ep 1x4 I'm having his baby! The obvious forever iconic baby trapping.
Crazier - POV Louis (not on the list because of vibes but still an honorable mention) Ep 1x1 You lift my feet off the ground, you spin me around. Levitating vampire sex. Ep 1x2 You showed me something that I couldn't see, opened my eyes and you made me believe. Lestat trying to free Louis from the trappings of his life and Louis literally seeing the world differently as a vampire.
3. I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) - POV Louis Everything about them. Ep 1x2 Louis starting to see that he cannot stomach the way Lestat enjoys killing. Lestat humiliating and killing the opera singer simply because he was a bad singer. Ep 1x3 The jokes that he told across the bar were revolting and far too loud. "What is wrong with that man?!" and then add Louis actually trying to fix Lestat by having him only kill evil people.
4. False God - POV Louis and Lestat We were crazy to think, crazy to think that this could work. But we might just get away with it, religion's in your lips, even if it's a false god. I know heaven's a thing, I go there when I touch you. Honey, hell is when I fight with you. I can't talk to you when you're like this, staring out the window like I'm not your favorite town. You can't talk to me when I'm like this, daring you to leave me just so I can try to scare you. Self-explanatory.
5. Renegade - POV Lestat Ep 1x1 I tapped on your window on your darkest night, the shape of you was jagged and weak. There was nowhere for me to stay, but I stayed anyway. Louis running away from Lestat to the church to try to exorcise him from his mind and heart. Trying to keep him out rather than let him in. Ep 1x2 After the phantoms of your former self. Are you really gonna talk about timing in times like these? And let all your damage damage me? And carry your baggage up my street? And make me your future history? Louis trying to continue his life as it was before he was turned but finding it difficult in a multitude of ways. "I almost ate my nephew, Lestat!" You've come a long way, open the blinds, let me see your face. You wouldn't be the first renegade to need somebody. "You are a challenge every sunset, Saint Louis. And I'd have it no other way." Ep 1x3 You fire off missiles 'cause you hate yourself, but do you know you're demolishing me? "This is not a life!" "That's because you TOOK my life!" Louis leaving Lestat because he hates his own vampire nature. Ep 1x5 Is it insensitive for me to say "Get your shit together so I can love you?" Louis' depression after Claudia leaves. Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything? Or do just not want to? "Say 'Lestat, I am never going to love you.'" Louis never telling Lestat "I love you" during their 30 years together.
6. Bejeweled - POV Lestat Ep 1x3 and onward. Don't put me in the basement when I want the penthouse of your heart. Lestat starting and continuing his affair with Antoinette whenever he feels neglected or rejected by Louis.
7. High Infidelity - POV Lestat I just think the cheating blondes Lestat and Taylor have a lot in common. Ep 1x5 Put on your records Read your books and regret me. Lestat being ignored by Louis who is only staying inside and reading his books since Claudia left. Ep 1x5 (with additional 2x7 context) You know there's many different ways that you can kill the one you love? The slowest way is never loving them enough. "If every word coming out of his mouth is vitriol or disinterest for seven years... you don't want to. You still hope that he'll emerge out of his melancholy. That he'll love you like you love him." But in the meantime you cheat. I bent the truth too far tonight, I was dancing around, dancing around it. Lestat keeping up his affair with Antoinette after he had promised to end it. You said I was freeloading. Not related to the show but in the original novel Louis keeps saying how Lestat was exploiting him for his money.
8. My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys - POV Lestat Ep 1x5 The Fight™️ Oh, here we go again. The voices in his head called the rain to end our days of wild. The "Claudia has left" depression spanning for several years. Lestat hoping he'll "emerge out of his melancholy" but also just being sick of it because he wants to bejeweled. But first, pull the string and I'll tell you that he runs because he loves me. "I have waited, Louis. I have patiently waited in vain for you to love me, as I love you." Ep 2x7 (still The Fight™️) He saw forever so he smashed it up. Hehe, Slam Reid his face into the coffin.
9. The Great War - POV Louis and Lestat Ep 1x5 The Fight™️ 2: Electric Boogaloo I drew curtains closed, drank my poison all alone. Louis ignoring Lestat and going deeper into his depression. And maybe it was egos swinging, maybe it was her. "A thousand nights of sulking, and the first sight of her, you are just gonna up and leave me?!" Ep 2x7 (still The Fight™️) Your finger on my hairpin triggers. "A word of context for our jury. The single worst thing that a vampire can feel is loneliness." Soldier down on that icy ground looked up at me with honor and truth. Broken and blue. So I called off the troops. That was the night I nearly lost you. Louis leaving Lestat after being dropped from the sky. "I did it to hurt him. And it did hurt him. And afterwards he was a broken thing. I know, I saw, because I am the one who broke him!" Ep 1x6 We can plant a memory garden. Say a solemn prayer, place a poppy in my hair. There's no morning glory, it was war, it wasn't fair. And we will never go back to that bloodshed. The aftermath of The Fight™️. "We leave the damage so we never forget the damage."
10. imgonnagetyouback - POV Louis Ep 1x6 Whether I'm gonna curse you out or take you back to my house. I haven't decided yet, but I'm gonna get you back. Louis swimming the Mississippi to yell at and fuck Lestat after he sends him the "Come to me" record. And then taking him back. And then plotting his death to get him back.
Rest of the songs will be in a reblog because apparently you CAN reach character limit on a tumblr post...
Fighting Fire With Fire Part 2;
"The Duality Of Fire"
(read part one and part three here)
During the early stages of the outbreak, the military used napalm in an attempt to control the spread of the virus. Through flashbacks and through FTWD, we saw how Operation Cobalt completely failed to contain the virus, while simultanously contributing to the total breakdown of societal structures. Metropolitan areas on the North American continent were indiscriminately bombed, making no differentiation between the living residing there, and the undead. We also saw, for instance in Shane's flashback to when Rick was in the hospital, how federal forces went in and killed any remaining survivers.
This is the duality of fire. It can be used for total obliteration, but it can also facilitate new life, as we saw in TOWL 1x1 Days, when Rick told the story of how his father burned down the farm, and how it flourished the next year.
During Rick's echelon briefing, we see the duality of the "fire" symbolism illustrated. Both Rick and Major General Beale talk about how you sometimes "have to burn things down in order to bring things back":
Both recognize the tremendous power of the fire symbolism, but they use the metaphor differently. Where Rick is ultimately interested in a good outcome as in facilitating new life, thriving crops and a sustainable future, Beale is literally talking about burning down cities, along with the people living in them.
In flashbacks seen during Major General Beale's Echelon briefing, we witness how the military used napalm on Atlanta and LA.
Napalm is, simply put, a fire bomb made from petrochemocals.
Let's explore the "fire = fuel" angle for a minute.
The opening minutes of 1x1 was our first introduction to the visuals and the symbolism of the show. We see Rick arrive at a gas station in search of fuel.
He only finds death and destruction, meaning that since the very first seconds of the show, the literal opening scene, we see gas, gas stations and fossil fuel surrounded by death symbolism. And, when we later learn that the military bombed the cities and killed countless civilians using napalm, we realise they used a firebomb made from petrochemicals.
The symbolism around gas stations as temples of doom continues, such as in 4x4 Indifference:
This sign quite literally labels the gas station as "hell". The people residing there had committed suicide. Keep this in mind, I'll return to it shortly!
The term "fighting fire with fire" was originally used to describe a technique of forest management, specifically in regards to how to manage wildfires, in which controlled fires were ignited in the path of a wildfire as a preventative measure:
"Fighting fire with fire" as an expression has also often been used to describe vaccines, due to the way it was discovered that exposure to pathogens in some cases could trigger the immune system to produce antibodies against said pathogens, thus resulting in immunity:
When first we met the character Dr. Edwin Jenner at the CDC in TWD 1x5 Wildfire, his name was a reference to Dr. Edward Jenner, an English physician widely known as the “father of immunology”, due to his role in developing the world's first vaccine, against smallpox, in 1798.
It is not a strecth to say that this foreshadows a potential vaccine in TWDU. The virus is called wildfire. Vaccines are often said to be "fighting fire with fire". We learned about the wildfire virus from a character named after the guy who developed the world's first vaccine.
In TOWL 1x2 Gone, we see Michonne involved in a situation that sheds light on how the "fighting fire with fire" symbolism is utilized by TPTB. We see her trying to get through an enormous walker horde, it's a virtual ocean of death:
She tries to distract the walkers by shooting a small missile into the horde, which then explodes. Fighting fire with fire.
Eventually, Nat shows up and helps by adding more explosive fireballs, and the "ocean of death" parts to reveal a way forward.
Fighting fire with fire:
This also provides an interesting example illustrating how fire bombs can be used responsibly, in contrast to the way napalm was used by the military, who indiscriminately bombed cities, killing innocent civilians in metropolitan areas by incinerating them.
It shows that when the people, who have harnessed the tremendous power of fire, have the right intentions, it can be used for good. It shows the duality of fire, and it illustrates the duality of pharmakon, a poison and a cure.
Fighting fire with fire.
This guy stands out from the crowd, and I believe he tells us something about what the wildfire virus in TWDU in reality is a metaphor for:
He's a callback to Rick, back in TWD 1x1 Days Gone Bye:
He beautifully illustrates the ominous nature of the fire symbolism, here represented by fossil fuels, or simply gasoline. We saw it herald death and dystopian hellscape at the gas station in 1x1, we saw it at the gas station in 4x4 Indifference, which was literally named "Hell", we saw it when napalm made from petrochemicals was used indiscriminately to destroy metropolitan areas on the North American continent and massacre anyone in proximity, infected or not.
And we see it again here.
The gas man is Mr. Wildfire Virus incarnate, a posterboy for death and necrotic life, a metaphor for "the old ways". He represents the disease, the plague, the extinction event...
He represents "the end" of humanity!
I don't think it's a stretch to say that the wildfire virus and the walkers in TWDU are metaphors for carbon emissions, the fossil fuel industry and the rapidly escalating threath of climate change to humanity. That's always been my interpretation, and that's solidified after seeing the gas man.
An interesting detail is how the gas man is shown here with gold teeth, as though he's illustrating the incredible wealth accumulated by the fossil fuel industry at the expense of the equilibrium of the ecology of the planet.
Seeing a gas man as the front figure and team captain of an enormous horde of the undead, an insurmountable obstacle, an ocean of death... it's not subtle.
A gas station innundated in death symbolism was the very first thing we, the audience, saw of TWDU, it was literally in the opening scene of 1x1.
And the gas man were among the last things we saw in what's so far one of the last episodes of the last spin off. But a few episodes later, we did see a glimmer of hope, and a potential way out of the mess...
The gas man functions as the face of the threat to humanity in TWDU, and was, in my opinion, inserted as a counter point to what we saw few episodes later, the ethanol as a representation of a "cure", an "antidote" in the back Richonne's escape car.
An electric/bio-ethanol hybrid car, no less...
Again, not subtle...
Bio-ethanol, a sustainable, renewable source of energy, is portrayed as a foreshadow of a sustainable future, in which humanity recovers and thrives.
A green(e) future?
I wrote about how they in FTWD season 4, and in particular 4x16, explored the "ethanol = cure" theme in a post the other week, read more about it here.
Remember how we in TWD season 9, saw the production of bio-ethanol as an alternative source of fuel. We saw how crucial it was, in that Maggie was even seen trading produce for bio-ethanol.
This is a theme TPTB also explored in TWD World Beyond, where especially Elton was concerned about the sixth extinction event, the Holocene extinction.
The kids in TWDWB called themselves "the Endlings", seeming to have accepted that they were among the last survivers of a humanity that was on a direct path to self destruction. Here's from an article in Comicbook.com:
"'Wind always wins,'" Elton tells Hope, borrowing a phrase from his mother who died at the onset of the apocalypse ten years earlier. "Something my mom said about nature deciding who lives and who dies. Turns out she was right."
He explains humans are "at the conclusion of the Holocene extinction," the sixth extinction event on the planet following the Late Ordovician mass extinction, the Late Devonian extinction, the End-Permian extinction, the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event, and the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.
"We were already killing ourselves directly and indirectly, but nature made a shortcut," Elton tells Hope. "It took the dinosaurs possibly 60,000 years to die after 240 million of living, so following that ratio, given the human race's 600,000 and factoring in other miscellaneous variables, I say we have about 15 years until we're gone."
Elton was referring to the walkers when he talked about the threath to humanity, however, if the walkers are a metaphor for climate change, Elton's predictions of 15 years until we're extinct are sobering...
In TWOL 1x6, Major General Beale estimated non-necrotic, meaning human, life has 14 years left.
In real life, the doomsday clock is currently at 90 seconds to midnight (x)...
...we're nowhere near reaching the 2 degrees Celcius target...
...and 2023 was the hottest year on record.
We're not doing great.
TPTB seem to be well aware, because...
...here we see how an electric/bio-ethanol hybrid car represent the "antidote", the future, the "escape" from the extinction event.
Richonne's yellow stick shift electric/bio-ethanol hybrid car represents a potential way out of the imminent Holocene extinction. It represents an "escape" from the sixth mass extinction event, much in the same way a shift away from carbon emitting fossil fuels, to sustainable, renewable sources of energy represents the "cure" against climate change in real life.
But back to the narrative of the show. The accumulation of walkers represent a real threath to humanity, as Major General Beale correctly stated. What could the expression "fighting fire with fire", or "pharmakon", tell us about a potential "cure"? What could the "antidote" be, in the canon of the show?
During Rick's echelon briefing, Major General Beale raised a few issues that would be of legitimate concern, even if most of the rest he said were the ramblings of an authoritarian genocidal madman. He mentioned hordes of up to a million walkers, and he referenced studies suggesting non-necrotic life, meaning humans, could have as little as 14 years left before the the dead would outcompete the living. Millions of walking corpses, spreading diseases, polluting the soil, contaminating fresh water sources.
Those are legitimate concerns and would have to be dealth with. Fire could play a literal role.
Glenn told us in season one. "We bury the ones we love and burn the rest". From an infection contagion prevention point of view, it makes sense to use fire to destruct the wildfire virus. Fighting fire with fire. However, there must be some way to contain the virus while still preserving one's own hummanity. "We bury the ones we love and burn the rest". Unlike what happened during the mass murders of Operation Cobalt during the initial stages of the outbreak.
Again, fire, when used responsibly, could play a role in neutralizing the treath of the plague. It's pharmakon, a poison and a cure.
Fighting fire with fire.
And using fire as a contagion preventation measure was already built into the infrastructure at the CDC. We first saw it in 1x5 Wildfire, when Dr. Jenner accidently knocked over a vial containing samples from Test Subject 19, his late wife, upon which the lab went into full decontamination mode and erased any remaining trace of the pathogen in a great ball of fire.
Later, when the doomsday clock at the CDC reached zero, we watched the entire CDC explode, effectively destructing everything inside, including test samples containing wildfire as well as any other pathogen they might have kept in there.
We also saw it on Hershel's farm in season 2, when the barn where he had kept the reanimated corpses of his loved ones while awaiting a cure, caught on fire. Although, that was more of a display of the symbolism involved rather than a depiction of how to scientifically contain a virus:
We've also seen it countless other times. Fire symbolism has been prevalent on the show since the very beinning, and there's a reason for that. It's because it represents pharmakon, a poison and a cure!
My hypothesis is that "fire" could play a literal role in the resolution of the zombie apocalypse. I also believe that it's likely the term "fighting fire with fire", or "pharmakon", could be meant to be interpreted figuratively, as in the develepment of some kind of cure/vaccine/treatment/immunity.
And like I explained in this post from a few days ago, connections to Beth is found everywhere in the symbolism surrounding these themes.
I mentioned her association with ethanol (as in moonshine = alcohol). I discussed the precedence set by Alicia from FTWD in regards to the bite/cure theory.
And finally, I've spent years now, talking about the Sirius symbolism that Beth has been absolutely immersed in. The word "Sirius" comes from Greek Seirios, which means "glowing", "scorching", it refers to Sirius the Dog Star, and it's associated with the scorching hot "dog days of summer".
"Sirius" symbolism IS "fire" symbolism, they're literally the same, and it ultimately means "return/resurrection/rebirth/reunion", as a reference to how Sirius the Dog Star periodically disappears from the night sky, only to return one morning, right before dawn.
I've talked about how Beth is deeply connected to the symbolism we see around Rick, I've talked about how they so often completely mirror each other and the resurrection symbolism around Rick is identical to the resurrection symbolism around Beth.
If "fire" is a part of the "cure" on the show, the fire symbolism includes resurrection symbolism, which we've seen countless exemples of around Rick and Beth.
And remember, the future is green(e)!
Round 2
Propaganda under the cut
Lois Lane
She's Superman's girlfriend/wife (depending on the continuity you're reading) and while she's generally well loved, some fans, for the sake of shipping Supes with Batman, will either a) completely ignore her existence or b) perform character assassination on her for the sake of their ship by making her shrill, unlikable, and downright abusive.
pretty self explanatory, you've probably heard of her! generally hated on because she gets 'in the way' of popular superman ships, like superbat, supercorp, etc etc
She’s one of the first female characters to be introduced in comics ever and she’s been ignored for years by fandom because of Superbat fans.
Relena Peacecraft
She made the mistake of having a crush on the serial killer/child soldier lead character, and also wearing pink. Like, she's one of the OG characters to have a "-bashing" tag on FFN and then AO3. The other half of the yaoi pair was a boy with a butt-length braid, a fake American name, and a priest outfit. Poor Ms Peacecraft never stood a chance.
Relena is a very competent and accomplished character with her own plot lines and goals in a series full of complicated political and military upheavals. The main characters are 5 teenage boys who pilot Gundams, and each boy has at least one potential female love interest counterpart (all of whom are interesting characters in their own right). Relena is the counterpart to the main pilot, Heero. Her importance to Heero and the story is substantial enough that yaoi shippers often feel the need to kill her off specifically, while other female characters get to play the roll of supportive fujoshi friend to the yaoi ships instead. The hate for Relena was truly vitriolic in the height of the yaoi fandom in the mid 90s/early 00s, so much so that the memories of her tortures live on in my memory to this day…
she suffers the indignity of being an implied LI in the most fujobait season of gundam ever and for that she had to die (in fanfiction) just look at any 1x2x1 fic on any platform, be it ffn or private website or anywhere, she gets vilainized to hell and back, if relena does not win this fuckign poll i'm goign to jump off a bridge she was villainised SO FUCKING HARD have you ever tried looking for any 1x2 fic that doesn't have relena bashing. it's impossible. she deserves a hefty victim's compensation from Big Yaoi is all i'm saying.
Mylitas, the Eyes of Orabilis
Demon of the First Circle
[PDF Version]
These curious demons drift through the twisted streets of Malfeas, their kaleidoscopic innards refracting Ligier’s harsh light into an array of scintillating patterns. Each motion sends them bobbing and sloshing gently, their gelatinous bodies quivering with each shift. When a Mylitas beholds a sight of profound beauty, it halts, trembling, and weeps thick, gelatinous tears, utterly overcome by the sublime vision before it.
Mylitas have a poor reputation in Hell, widely considered little more than prettily-decorated spies. However, few demons dare move against them directly for fear of provoking Orabilis’s wrath. Instead, demons decorate places they wish to keep secret with exquisite art or build their homes by great vistas to try to distract the Mylitas' gaze.
Summoners and Princes call upon Mylitas to observe rivals from afar, provide surveillance and warning against assassinations, or critique works of art. Mylitas possess refined tastes, though their standards are unusual, and their kaleidoscopic flashes communicate with scathing wit.
Merits
Natural Flight: Mylitas bob above the ground, suspended by their vitreous fluid–they ignore difficult terrain.
Ever-Vigilant: Mylitas can see around them even when asleep or incapacitated in every direction, and double 9s on all visual perception rolls.
Prismspeak: Mylitas can communicate with other Mylitas within Long Range with a unique language of complicated prismatic pictograms, as long as there is a source of light. This language relies on colors beyond the perception of most other beings, so even if learned, full understanding is difficult.
Offensive Charms
Blinding Florescence (14m, 6i, Simple, Instant, Decisive-Only, Essence 2): The Mylitas makes a special Decisive Gambit against all targets within Short Range, flashing with sickening colors. They roll a single pool of 10 Dice against a (Stamina + Resistance) pool of all targets–any who fail are blinded, suffering a -3 penalty to all rolls that rely on sight, for a number of rounds equal to the Mylitas’s overflow successes.
Corrosive Aquous (8m, 4i, 1lhl, Simple, Instant, Decisive-Only, Essence 2): The Mylitas sprays corrosive eye-brine from its innards at a target within Short Range, making a special Gambit with a 10-dice pool. If it succeeds, the target’s soak is reduced by (lower of Overflow successes or 2) for the scene.
Miscellaneous Charm
Keen Eye for Beauty (6m, Supplemental, Instant, Essence 2): The Mylitas adds (Target’s Appearance) in dice to a roll based on visual perception.
Scathing Critic (6m, Supplemental, Instant, Essence 2) The Mylitas doubles 9s on a profile roll if it has viewed a target’s art or writing, or on a social attempt that incorporates criticism of the target’s art or appearance.
Materialize (35m, 1wp; Simple; Instant; Essence 1): A Mylitas appears with a kaleidoscope flash and gurgle of vitreous.
Hurry Home (10m, 1wp; Simple; Instant; Essence 1): A Mylitas fades away and vanishes on its next turn, drawn instantly to its summoner’s side. (Unavailable unless bound.)
Measure the Wind (5m; Simple; Instant; Essence 1): A Mylitas can discern the nature of anyone who’s art they have previously studied.
Re Jamie and issues with foods - i barely remember him eating in Cannon
Only times I can think is jamie not eating cake with everyone in 1x2 taking roy literally and telling him he doesn't like scones in 1x10 picking at his food at the restaurant in s 3 and not being able to eat when he was sad in late s 3
So I can see it
I don't think I mentioned it in the original post because it was getting pretty long, but I was thinking of a lot of the same examples! For me, it falls into the headcanon category where I don't necessarily think it was intended by the creators but it is an interpretation (though obviously not the only one) that fits pretty well with what we're shown in canon. Also I'm in editing hell with the first chapter of my thesis and massively procrastinating, so here's a graph I made about it (the X represents the headcanon):
#ted lasso#jamie tartt#headcanons#asks#part of the procrastination was making the graph in the least efficient way possible#could have done it on my laptop but instead i wrote it in a notebook scanned it with the scanner app on my phone that only does pdfs#and then found a jpg to pdf converter#also in the process of all that i found the picture that i use for my main blog avatar and apparently i named it “little guy”#kvetch oc
“Oh well, that’s real mature! What kind of sorcerer sets things on fire at every upset?!” “The kind you shouldn’t annoy?”
Professor G and Duo (chp. 27)
Two Halves: Circles by Maldoror_Chant (AO3) Gundam Wing – Teen/Mature – Duo Maxwell/Heero Yuy #Alternate Universe #Magic #Fantasy #Angst #Violence #Sex #Cousin Incest (sort of?) #Fiends from Hell
Duo and Heero are married, but an attack on one of them proves that they still have an enemy.
Despite starting with the wedding this is in fact a 1x2 get-together fic.
Sequel/continuation of Two Halves (AO3)
Note: The AO3 version has combined both stories into one, so the chapter count is off for this second part
For the unpopular question heart post!
💛 9 fandom :)
💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?
————
I despise 2x5 because they litterary have a father/son relationship in canon, why the hell would you ship them.
Also 6x8 would turn very abusive very fast. Not a fan of that.
Anything involving the twins is obviously a no no.
And most ships with 1 with the exception of maybe 1x2, but I prefer them with a more brotherly relationship.
Damon's desire to be open and honest, inviting Elena to truly see them. That's what I love about him in The Night of the Comet, episode 1x2.
Introducing her to his crow was Damon's first act. This was after he had it slam into Bonnie's windshield, after he had it chase Elena out of the cemetery, after Bonnie saw it in her psychic reading at the bonfire. He was flat-out admitting to both acts just by pulling it into the house for her.
Closing the door behind Elena was Damon's second act. He wants her to question how the door got closed.
Literal as hell with his comment about Stefan. "I see why my brother's so smitten." No different than him saying, "If I see something I haven't seen before, I'll throw a dollar at it." No different than him saying, "She was beautiful. A lot like you in that department." They're all doppelganger comments. He follows it up with an even bigger clue. "It's about time." Since 1864, I'd say it's about time lol. Name-dropping Katherine was his third act, and it's his most common because she's Elena's biggest clue. Elena won't get the full understanding of Damon's comments until the 10th episode. "I look like her…"
"Oh, don't be silly. You're welcome any time. Isn't she, Stefan?" Welcoming Elena to come over any time was Damon's third act. No need to warn them with a phone call. A huge deal, considering Damon could have a dinner party at any time lol.
"You know, I should break out the family photo albums or some home movies. But, I have to warn you. He wasn't always such a looker." Offering photo albums and home movies was Damon's fourth and final act. Photo albums and home movies that date back further than any human's would. A coincidence that Elena learns they're vampires by watching a video from 1953? Probably not lol
It's clear to me that Damon wants Elena to learn their truth. At the same time, he doesn't want to be the one to tell her. He's leaving it to two fates:
Stefan tells her.
Elena discovers it on her own. Either through the sum of clues he leaves her, or faith in herself and the belief that vampirism is possible.
Damon isn't the one dating her, so he knows it's not his place, but he wants her to know because she SHOULD know. Her knowing their truth is the only real way to protect Elena.
BRUH WHAT ARE YOU WEARING
ooooh my goddddd i miss edogawa, send me back to iwatodai please
Following up to the Midnight Channel, Chie has never considered girls before. I'm glad this possibility space has now opened up to her. Congratulations. I mean, for me, it was being like 11 years old and on FF.Net and accidentally clicking a Gundam Wing fanfic that said 1x2 without knowing what that meant. For you, it's this. Cheers.
Everyone decides to go to Junes to see if you can really stick your hand through a TV and for some reason you can?
This immediately makes me suspicious. Chie and Yosuke try it to mock you before you do it, and they're unable to. So it's specific to Reverie here. I hope some horrible Big Bad isn't sealed inside him. Though, notably, P4 is not as preoccupied with death as P3 was. It seems obsessed with...
Rumors.
Hm. What would be the Arcana of rumors and falsehoods that cover up the inner truth. I'll cogitate. Because OH MAN
THIS GAME IS OBSESSED WITH SECONDHAND UNTRUTHS AND RUMORS. It's about as subtle about it as P3 and it's "oh everyone turns into floating coffins" thing.
Okay so in the TV.
No one is hyped to be here, and there doesn't seem to be a way out. This game loves yellow like P3 loved green.
That's the wife to the councilman who had the affair, HOW MUCH INVESTMENT DO I NEED IN THAT STUFF? I GUESS A LOT. Looks like this was... a copy of the victim's room? Symbolically recreated in the TV land?
its spooky, let's gtfo of here.
AAAAAY its Teddy! He's a mascot!
Who immediately kicks us out.
We'll be back. 8)
ANYWAY uuuuh. Saki..... died? I grabbed screencaps of the sequence but take my word for it, she's hung upside down on a telephone pole. 8C its..... grim.
See, more fucking rumors.
Also, is it a serial murderer or a copycat? Hrm.
Yosuke is Very Upset about Saki's death, and points out that he heard someone say they saw the dead journalist lady on the Midnight Channel before her death, and now they saw Saki on the Midnight Channel before hers, ergo we gotta go back into the TV.
Chie isn't about this fuckin' life, so.
Yosuke has rope and a golf club. Either Yosuke is short as hell or that golf club is sized for basketballers only.
GOOD JOB, GUYS.
AND WE'RE BACK waitafuckingminute is that sam riegel
oh my god it is. sup, man, how you doin.
okay there's a lot of info here.
Teddie (that's the guy's name) lives in the TV. He knows someone is throwing bodies into this world and trapping them to die because normally there is no exit from the TV. There are Shadows here, and they are violent. Teddie is.... not a shadow? Which begs the question what the fuck is he.
kind of rude bro
And rather than signing a contract to "take responsibility for my actions including my inevitable death" the contract in P4 is to solve a mystery.
For agreeing to stop people from dumping randos into TV hell, we get cool glasses that let us see better.
He still ranks higher than Chie right now, not gonna lie.
