[crickets chirping] [Robin gasped as he woke, scrambling backwards through the brush; he was pretty sure by now that ghosts couldn’t hurt him, at least not directly, but this particular entity was still unknown-.. and very close] Robin: AH! ?: AHHH! [Seemingly just as surprised as he was, the startled sprit mimicked Robin’s exclamation] Robin: Sorry! ?: Thou see me-.. hear me?! Robin: Yeah.. that’s a good thing though, right? ?: ‘Tis certainly different. Robin: Wait, where are you going-.. what’s your name? Heath: Erm, ‘tis Heath-.. methinks. Robin: I’ve never seen you here before. Heath: I’ve seen thou-.. and that curious thing around thy neck. Robin: How long have you been, uh… Heath: Dead? Oh, a while. Robin: It’s a camera. Whatever you take a picture of will be captured just as you see it, forever-.. as long as the photo lasts anyway. Don’t ask me how it works though, ‘cause you wouldn’t believe me. [Heath squinted with simultaneous suspicion and bewilderment] Robin: Here’s one I took earlier-.. that weird orb thing there? That’s what you’d look like if I took a picture of you. I think because you’re not physically here anymore, you don’t show up, but I don’t know for sure. Heath: I’m not entirely certain what thou speak upon, yet it hath an air of witchcraft about it if thou bid me. [phone ringing] Robin: Hang on. Heath: I’m not e’en going to bid what that is. Robin: Sorry, mom.. I fell asleep. Courtney: Where are you? Robin: On the island-.. Devin said I could use the boat whenever. Courtney: [sighs] Can you just come home, please? Robin: Yeah, I’m coming. [Robin stared at his phone briefly before sticking it back in his pocket, he didn’t like phones at the best of times – being unable to read the person he was conversing with, even a little, felt inherently wrong – but this felt worse than usual] Robin: I’ve gotta go. Heath: Well, ‘tis not as though I be going anywhere-.. apparently. Robin: I’ll show you some more pictures next time, I promise! Heath: I suppose that’d be nice…

Propaganda
Adhemar, Count of Anjou, A Knight's Tale (2001) Portrayed by: Rufus Sewell Defeated Opponents: - Sir Bowen [Dennis Quaid], Dragonheart (1996) - Robin Hood [Errol Flynn], The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
“Okay, I get it, he's a terrible person. He cheats at jousting, he's mean to his herald, he ranks women somewhere below trophies and horses. But reader, I DON'T CARE. I can't help it. I admit that when I was younger (and perhaps more sensible) it was all about William/Ulric and his charming smile. But Adhemar... I would commit CRIMES for this man. Those eyes, the cheekbones, the glower! Do I think I could fix him? No. But, god, we could make each other worse!”
Ètienne de Navarre, Ladyhawke (1985) Portrayed by: Rutger Hauer Defeated Opponents: - Prince John [Richard Lewis], Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) - Sultan Mehmed II [Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu], Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020-2022)
“Etienne of Navarre is as devoted to his lady as he is powerful and vicious, despite a curse that keeps them eternally apart. Also, he has a gorgeous horse and turns into a big wolf. What's not to love?”

For Ètienne de Navarre:

Since you’ve done a list of HR heroes ranked by how likely they are to get pegged, can you do the same for IAD heroes?
Ummmmmm yes lol. THANKS. I will leave out Cas and Mirceo from Shadow's Seduction, as they're together, have dicks, and enjoy fucking each other with them, so I don't think we need to clarify that.
Random one-off future heroes or just someone else:
Kristoff: sweeping prediction, if any IAD hero gets pegged on the page it's gonna be Kristoff because he's with literal valkyrie queen Furie
Heath the Werepire: he has lost his werewolfitude and ability to love... can his fated mate Kosmina teach him to enjoy a prostate massage again? Find out in Heath's book!
Thad: can't comment because even though he's thousands of years old, he's baby, and I KNOW he's tried to talk to Lothaire about some some feminist sex conference he's been to at his local university, and I know he was like "have you ever attempted to use a butt plug on yourself while attempting to understand the patriarchy Mr. Lothaire", and I know Lothaire broke his legs again
Rune Darklight, Sweet Ruin. Listen I've gotta say, Rune gets pegged multiple times a week, and anyone who wants to fight me can talk to the wall.
Murdoch Wroth, Untouchable. So Murdoch and Dani are into it, and I'm absolutely sure she pegged him with an icicle off-page in that book.
Cadeon Woede, Dark Desires After Dusk. Cade has been pegged often, he's into it, and Holly is down for it even if she has drink some margaritas beforehand.
Conrad Roth, Dark Needs at Night's Edge. Conrad and Neomi do it, they enjoy it, it's kinda therapeutic, they cry, and he for sure rips the strap off her and fucks the shit out of her. Every time. I can see how this would be written, and it is vivid.
Lothaire Daciano, Lothaire. NOT AS HIGH AS YOU WOULD THINK!!!! Obviously, Ellie pegs Lothaire, duh. But do I think it's a top priority? No. However, I also think that Ellie and Lothaire's sex life is very dependent on this idea that she's a brat and he just can't handle her and then he snaps, so like. There are OTHER acts that probably suit them more. When they do it, I imagine much blood is shed and sheets have to be burned.
Thronos Talos, Dark Skye. Obviously, Thronos was raised by the Magical Mormon Angels, so he has some religious conditioning to unpack, but Lanthe is about it and we know canonically that Thronos ate his own cum out of her on the reg so. I'm sure it's a regular thing.
Bowen MacRieve, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Bowen and Mariketa have one of the earlier sorta of semi-femdom scenes in the series, the first time they have sex when Mariketa uses tree vines to magically restrain Bowen while they're fucking because he's in Beast mode. I think EVERY werewolf has been pegged, because they're inherent pleasers. I think BOWEN has been pegged while the Beast is out, with the help of Mari's magic.
Nikolai Wroth, The Warlord Wants Forever. I think Myst has a pretty dominant energy, and I'm sure it's come up and been tried because Nikolai actually isn't that experienced. Do I think it's enjoyed? Yes. Do I think it's routine? No.
Sebastian Wroth, No Rest for the Wicked. UMMMM I think that's a yes. However, I actually don't think they do it often, because Kaderin is like... yeah, she chains him up and sucks him off while he's chained, but Kaderin is surprisingly into his big unexpected shows of dominance. So when it does happen, I think he flips the game on her and starts riding it.
Munro MacRieve, Munro. One of the least toxically masculine IAD heroes, for sure Munro was pegged before he met Kereny (because he was a slut) and he would be pegged after.
Sian Infernas, Wicked Abyss. Sian is someone who I feel like probably said something homophobic about pegging in the past, but he learned, got better, and is ultimately a simp.
Lachlain MacRieve, A Hunger Like No Other. I think that Lachlain is probably not SUPER into pegging, but I also think that what Emma wants, Emma gets. Like, Emma is def getting pregnant before this series is over, whether or not Lachlain wants to wait until after the Apocalypse. If she pegged him while drinking his blood, I think he'd be SUUUUUPER into it.
Declan Chase, Dreams of a Dark Warrior. I think DC has a lot of trauma and control issues surrounding that trauma, but I also think Regin is into it, he's into getting beaten up by Regin, and he'd probably be down if it was REEEEEEEALLY kinky. Like, restraints, blindfolds, gags, she's telling him an elaborate story during.
Uilleam MacRieve, MacRieve. Obviously, MacRieve has a lot of sexual trauma, and I do think he's very control-based, but once he finds his zen with Chloe he seems really loosey-goosey about sex, soooooo. I'm sure it's happening. Buuuut it didn't happen before Chloe, because I think it's canon that after he grew up, MacRieve only had sex doggy style in full Beast mode until her. He didn't even EAT PUSSY until Chloe. He was a LOST MAN. That's why all the other werewolves looked at him with SADNESS and PITY. He was the Rudolph of Clan MacRieve, but instead of being a red-nosed reindeer he was the one who had not performed cunnilingus with VERVE AND PANACHE.
Garreth MacRieve, Pleasure of a Dark Prince. OBVIOUSLY. OBVIOUSLY. Garreth has been pegged, and he will be pegged again, but I actually don't think he and Lucia do it often because like... Lucia is reeeeally subby with Garreth. And you can be submissive and peg someone, but I just feel like their dynamic is very "you're tired, I take care of you", and I don't think they do it much. Not because of a lack of desire, but I think that Garreth and Lucia have like, extremely passionate yet interestingly vanilla sex. But it's so weirdly emotional that it somehow seems kinky. Garreth and Lucia look into each other's eyes as they kiss, tongues and all.
Trehan Daciano, Shadow's Claim. Eh. I don't think Trehan is that adventurous, and I don't think Bettina's that curious. Give them a while.
Malkolm Slaine, Demon from the Dark. So Malkolm, I think, would be potentially open to it? But he's very very traumatized from the abuse he suffered as a child, and I think it would be too stressful.
Rydstrom Weode, Kiss of a Demon King. Yeah so Sabine is very much too lazy to do this, Rydstrom would never trust her to care for sex toys or lube so it's a lot of work, and I'll be honest, I looooove Rydstrom, he is a TOP hero for me, but lol, Rydstrom is NOT down for that.

SNL Recap: Maya Rudolph and James Austin Johnson Face Off as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump
Tumblr media
James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump, Kenan Thompson as Steve Harvey and Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris on 'Saturday Night Live.' Will Heath/NBC SNL Recap: Maya Rudolph and James Austin Johnson Face Off as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on Family Feud In a brilliant satirical twist on political debates, Saturday Night Live (SNL) brought back fan-favorites Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris and James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump. This time, they faced off on the iconic game show Family Feud, hosted by the ever-charismatic Kenan Thompson as Steve Harvey. The sketch not only provided laughs but also cleverly highlighted the absurdities of political rivalries in a humorous game show format. A Hilarious Introduction The sketch opened with Thompson introducing himself with his signature humor: “I am Steve Harvey and I have spent the past 20 years hosting every show on TV as my alibi for them Diddy parties.” The audience erupted in laughter as he set the stage for a comedic showdown between the two political rivals. Thompson then introduced the Democratic side, which featured Harris (Rudolph), Tim Walz (played by Jim Gaffigan), Joe Biden (portrayed by Dana Carvey), and Douglas Emhoff (played by Andy Samberg). On the Republican side, Johnson’s Trump was flanked by J.D. Vance (played by Bowen Yang), Donald Trump Jr. (played by Mikey Day), and a notably absent Melania Trump. Rudolph's Harris wasted no time with her sharp wit and humor. Upon her introduction, she quipped, “It’s wonderful to be here, Steve. I love to see a man getting paid millions of dollars at his black job.” The line drew laughter from the audience, showcasing her ability to blend humor with social commentary. She then humorously recounted her recent media blitz, stating, “I went on Howard Stern to reach the horny cab drivers and on The View for the horny moms.” This self-aware commentary was not only funny but also highlighted the often ridiculous lengths politicians go to in order to connect with various voter demographics. She concluded her introduction with a powerful message aimed at young women: “You need to go to the ballot box if you want the government out your ballot box,” reinforcing the importance of civic engagement. The Game Begins As the game commenced, Thompson's Harvey introduced the first question: “What’s something that you keep in your glove compartment?” The comedic tension built as Harris took the floor. In a humorous detour, she began discussing her middle-class upbringing, sharing anecdotes about her mother and sister, before finally answering the question with a punchline, “Oh, a Glock, Steve. A big ole Glock.” The unexpected answer elicited laughter and applause from the audience, and the Democrats seized control of the board. Next was Samberg’s Emhoff, who attempted to mirror Harris’s boldness by echoing her answer. “Steve, a Glock,” he confidently stated, adding another point to their team. However, the momentum shifted when Gaffigan’s Walz and Carvey’s Biden offered less impressive answers, leading to a missed opportunity for the Democrats. The Republicans then had their chance to steal. Thompson turned to Trump first, who responded with characteristic bravado. “Well, Steve, I’ve never ridden in the front seat of cars, so this question is very unfair,” he declared, setting the stage for a lengthy, rambling rant that veered off-topic. The audience laughed at Johnson’s portrayal of Trump, which effectively captured the former president’s penchant for long-winded speeches. In a moment of comedic genius, Thompson’s Harvey, growing increasingly frustrated, yelled, “Show me dementia!” The audience erupted at the absurdity, but that answer wasn’t on the board, leading to a decisive victory for the Democrats. The sketch perfectly encapsulated the chaotic nature of political discourse, using humor to address serious issues. Ariana Grande Hosts The episode featured Ariana Grande returning to Studio 8H to host SNL for the second time, a notable comeback since her hosting debut in 2016. Grande also performed as the musical guest during Josh Brolin’s episode last season, making her presence even more anticipated. This week, the legendary Stevie Nicks took on the role of musical guest. Grande opened her monologue with a lighthearted promise to keep things “low-key.” “I’m just hosting. I’m not gonna make this about me. I’m just gonna have fun,” she stated, setting the tone for her appearance. However, true to her vibrant personality, she soon broke into song, showcasing her impressive vocal range with a medley that included spot-on impressions of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Gwen Stefani. During one segment, Yang joined her on stage dressed as Glinda from The Wizard of Oz, prompting Grande to playfully inform him, Bowen, didn’t anybody tell you? We cut the Wicked sketch.” This line not only highlighted her comedic timing but also connected with the audience, who appreciated the reference to Broadway. Grande further entertained the audience with her playful declaration, “The other last thing I’m not gonna do is bring out some hot dancers to do some insanely high kicks,” only to be joined by a troupe of dancers for a lively performance. The “We Can’t Be Friends” artist continued to flex her vocal prowess, singing, “If you’re looking for a diva, don’t look over here. ‘Cause tonight, I’m keeping it low-key.” Conclusion The latest episode of Saturday Night Live successfully blended political satire with musical entertainment, showcasing the talents of both the cast and the host. The Family Feud sketch provided a humorous critique of political rivalries while highlighting the absurdity of contemporary discourse. Ariana Grande’s return added an extra layer of excitement, as her performances captivated the audience and showcased her multifaceted talents. As SNL continues to tackle current events with humor and creativity, viewers can look forward to more memorable moments that reflect the ever-evolving landscape of politics and entertainment. The combination of sharp satire, musical performances, and engaging sketches ensures that SNL remains a cultural touchstone in American television. SEO Keywords: Saturday Night Live, SNL recap, Maya Rudolph, James Austin Johnson, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Family Feud sketch, Ariana Grande, Kenan Thompson, political satire, comedy. [ID: four images with a statement from the NWSLPA dated October 17, 2022:
Today, a jointly selected impartial arbitrator issued a ruling agreeing with the NWSL Players Association’s position that 22 Players with 6 or more NWSL Service Years and contracts that expire on December 31, 2022 were eligible for free agency when the free agency window opened on August 26, 2022. Under Section 13.5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Players with six (6) or more NWSL Service Years whose contracts are expiring on December 31, 2022 are eligible for free agency. The NWSL Players Association filed a grievance to enforce the free agency provisions of the contract on August 16, 2022. Hearings were held on October 4 and 6, 2022.
Each of these 22 contested free agents entered into contracts with their clubs that expire on December 31, 2022, and which contained a club option for 2023. The impartial arbitrator ruled that these options must have been exercised before the free agency window opened on August 26, 2022 in order to extend the term of the contract. No player received written notice from the NWSL of an intent to exercise the option before the first-ever free agency window opened.
The grievance and arbitration procedure that is contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement is, itself, a win for collective bargaining. Through this process, the NWSL and the NWSL Players Association agree to submit issues where we cannot reach agreement to a jointly selected, impartial arbitrator. The grievance and arbitration procedure is a fair, collectively bargained mechanism that provides finality and instills confidence in the outcome.
The NWSL Players Association appreciates the parties’ commitment to a fair process, the diligence of the impartial arbitrator, and, as always, the engagement and solidarity of Players that makes our union strong.
Newly Declared Free Agents Retroactive to August 26, 2022:
Lauren Barnes, Katie Bowen, Danielle Colaprico, Jaelene Daniels, Debinha, Vanessa DiBernardo, Makenzy Doniak, Morgan Gautrat, Tobin Heath, Rachel Hill, Kaitlyn Johnson, Estelle Johnson, Domi Richardson, Katelyn Rowland, Sophie Schmidt, Christine Sinclair, Meredith Speck, Jasmyne Spencer, Nicole Stanton, Jodie Taylor, Arin Wright, McCall Zerboni

So you’d like to try romance
If you’re interested in reading romance or would just like to know a bit more about the genre by reading books instead of going off of whatever nonsense you’ve heard about it, here’s a list grouped by arbitrary categories that I made up as I went.
“I have a shelf of chick lit, but I just don’t know where to start with those books.”
Congrats! If you read “chick lit,” then you’ve probably already read romance because the generally agreed upon definition of a romance novel is a story that 1. centers on a love story and 2. has an emotionally satisfying ending. Lots of chick lit fits those two rules. It’s all just marketing.
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
Roomies by Christina Lauren
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Pretty much anything with a colorful illustrated cover featuring two people: Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston; Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert; No Judgments by Meg Cabot; etc.
“I have a shelf of historical fiction and historical romance is such a natural fit for me it’s really a wonder that I haven’t read any of it yet.”
Three Weeks with Lady X by Eloisa James
Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston
A Lady by Midnight by Tessa Dare
One Night in London by Caroline Linden
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley
“Listen, if I’m going to read romance, I want to read the classics.”
I’m listing the classics that I like because it’s my list.
Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas (2006)
Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey (1990)
Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn (2002)
Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard (1989)
Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale (1992)
Ransom by Julie Garwood (1999)
It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (1994)
Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase (1995)
Sea Swept by Nora Roberts (1998), Vision in White by Nora Roberts (2009), anything you want by Nora Roberts, including Naked in Death by J.D. Robb (who is Nora Roberts) (1995)
“You’re giving me too much REALITY. Where’s the fantasy?!”
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole
“No, no, no, that’s all too far-fetched for me. I want to read about things that could really happen.”
Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen
Something About You by Julie James
Act Like It by Lucy Parker
“No! I’ve spent years hearing about all the weird stuff in romance novels! Give me your wildest shenanigans or give me nothing!”
Warrior’s Woman and Keeper of the Heart by Johanna Lindsey (Actually, just read any old-school Lindsey.)
The Red Hot Cajun by Sandra Hill
I listed Dark Lover by J.R. Ward above. Keep reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series if you want to go from the shallow end to the deep end and beyond.
Iron Cowboy by Diana Palmer -- or just read this review on Smart Bitches Trashy Books.
Pregnesia by Carla Cassidy -- or just read this review on Smart Bitches Trashy Books.
“Okay, now I’m really pissed off because I knew romance had a ‘diversity problem’ and you didn’t include enough writers of color or diverse characters or people who aren’t straight for me.”
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai
A Duke by Default by Alyssa Cole
Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins
A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev
Rafe: A Buff Male Nanny by Rebekah Weatherspoon
A Seditious Affair by K.J. Charles
Trade Me by Courtney Milan
The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian
“I’m a dedicated romance reader, you didn’t include my favorite author or favorite book, and now I’m annoyed.”
Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig
Irresistible Forces by Brenda Jackson
Waking Up with the Duke by Lorraine Heath
Lucky in Love by Jill Shalvis
Beard Science by Penny Reid
Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas
The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran
Virgin River by Robyn Carr
Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley
Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan
Look, just imagine I included your favorite here, okay?
“Wait, I know of some pretty big novelists who aren’t on this list. Why aren’t you recommending them?”
Nicholas Sparks is a jerk about the romance genre, even though romance readers are the reason he’s rich. Screw him.
Same for Diana Gabaldon.
Danielle Steele doesn’t write romance novels.
Everyone knows about Jane Austen.
Georgette Heyer was an anti-Semitic trash person.
That about covers it. Happy reading!

“In so many ways Errol Flynn is the blueprint for every Robin Hood that came after him—nobody should be able to make a cocky guy who laughs all the time likeable, yet Flynn brings so much charm you can't help but fall in love with him. He is truly a merry man, yet somehow not annoying, and his balance between caring deeply about the people affected by the taxes and his own lighthearted approach to life is just.... can anybody Robin Hood more than this Robin Hood? I don't think so.”

This just popped up in my activity feed and made me realize that I never gave a post-series ranking of the girls!!!!
So, until Kresley releases the next book, which I assume will be m/f (FURIE AND KRISTOFF PLSTHX tho I will accept Kosmina and Heath if that's to be... a thing, because Lothaire and Lachlain should be in-laws), my IAD heroine ranking goes like:
Neomi Laress, Dark Needs at Night's Edge. For all the reasons mentioned before. She's feminine and nurturing and soft, while also being unabashedly sexual and a bit vampy. She's clever but also deeply bird-brained at times--gets re-embodied, has unprotected sex with Conrad like 5x a day for a week, and THEN asks Mariketa if she can get pregnant. God bless. My queen.
Elizabeth Peirce, Lothaire. Just. A fucking goddess of a girl, and someone people would HATE today; a subversion of NLOG who knows her own worth the entire time. Tough as nails, never gives up, and is still deeply vulnerable. The scene where Ellie like, bursts into tears after this INSANE sexual encounter because she realizes she's going to die anyway? My baaaaby. And she wins everything in the end and has Lothaire's metaphorical balls in her front coat pocket. Incredible.
Mariketa the Awaited/Awakened, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Still a fucking forever girl. Has unlimited power; is also a cheerleader and FOR SURE wears that uniform in the bedroom. Her post-book cameos are probably my favorites because it's largely her getting into mortal peril while Bowen has a heart attack, or Bowen's relatives asking her for spells and her refusing them a family discount.
Lucia the Huntress, Pleasure of a Dark Prince. I love a cold as ice girl who has to deal with FEEEEEELINGS, and Lucia is that. Calm, cool, and collected until she is most definitely not, reluctantly unable to resist Garreth worming his way into her heart.
Sabine, Queen of Illusions, Kiss of a Demon King. A complicated, controversial, absolute BITCH of a heroine which is why I love her. The rare true villainess heroine, and honestly still pretty bad at the end of her book. Also? A true brat. Her having a meltdown because she's tired and hot and her boobs are sore because Rydstrom keeps at 'em is a highlight of the series.
Kaderin the Coldhearted, No Rest for the Wicked. She rose in the ranks after I re-read her book and realized that it was actually great. Kaderin has the kind of journey heroes usually have. She's super cold, a bit mean, and even flirts with someone else in front of her hero. She also is facing certain death and booty calls Sebastian for mid-air plane sex. I love her.
Chloe Todd, MacRieve. Chloe is such a perfect girl--snarky yet innocent, vulnerable yet tough, deserving a lot better than MacRieve and his ISSUES, but also seeing like... the potential in their relationship. She's such a fucking good person, and her like capacity for forgiveness without just... letting go of bad behavior, is great.
Emmaline Troy, A Hunger Like No Other. I remain an Emma defender to the death, and her attempts to baby trap Lachlain in later books only make me like her more. Vampire queen of the werewolves who needs her nails done!!!
Josie, Sweet Ruin. ONE OF THE CRAZIEST BITCHES I'VE EVER READ ABOUT. Gets torture-edged for hours??? Days??? Responds with "I like you so much". Queen. Icon. Legend. Broke Rune down like a motherfucker.
Regin the Radiant, Dreams of a Dark Warrior. Kind of annoying in books leading up to her own, but much easier to understand after. It's all a facade, she's actually very damaged, she has a softer heart than anyone realizes, and she's honestly pretty fucking funny.
Myst the Coveted, The Warlord Wants Forever. We love a VAMP. Myst is allowed to be sexy and problematic and alluring. She needs it to COPE. Also, 10/10 gets caught having rough sex outdoors by her sisters and her first instinct is to cover Nikolai's giant dick so that they don't get any ideas.
Daniela the Ice Maiden, Untouchable. I stan sexy Elsa. The fact that this girl had an icicle up her vag in an effort to make sex work with her hot vampire guy... an icon.
Holly Ashwin, Dark Desires After Dusk. A math professor who goes on a roadtrip with a hot demon and makes him jealous by flirting with other hot demons at a bar. Also didn't even have to be told to use the demon horns to steer his head to where it needed to go. We love a nerd.
Melanthe, Queen of Persuasion, Dark Skye. Met a virgin God warrior and ruined his life. Is unashamed about her sexual history AND a fun, trustworthy sister. Was okay with having sex with Thronos for the first time through a weird sheet thing. Respects cultural traditions of angel demons, we respect it.
Kereny Codrina, Munro. I actually love that Kereny basically exists to dunk on Munro for much of their book. I also loved her "BITCHES, RIGHT?" girl talk with Ellie and the fact that she made out with Munro in front of a man she'd just married.
Lila Barbot, Wicked Abyss. I liked Lila a lot. Turned the tables on Sian, didn't put up with any of his bullshit, and ultimately? Turned out to be a monster-fucker. good for her.
Bettina, Shadow's Claim. I actually am a Bettina defender, though she admittedly was a bit of an idiot at points. Like, my dude, this man is so fucking hot, don't waste a good thing. But still, I loved her being a horny princess classic who designs weapons.
Carrow the Incarcerated, Demon from the Dark. I liked Carrow. I liked the kid she chose to be a stepmom to and her entire "finding motherhood" arc less, but it was solid. Still, her teaching a Tarzan-esque vampire/demon guy to bathe was real cool.
Would you rank the IAD heroines?
I mean, I've only gotten to know four out of like... 17ish? Not sure, I know there are 2-3 novellas and like 16-17 full length books, but I believe one of those novellas is m/m (sadly it is far down the line because I reeeeeeeally wanna read it).
But thus far, I think my heroine ranking is pretty reflective of the hero rating, and how I'd rank their books. Sometimes I'll really enjoy a hero or heroine and their story is less than idea.
But anyway, on to the ladies.
Neomi Laress, ghost/phantom, Dark Needs at Night's Edge. I absolutely adore Neomi. She may be my favorite romance heroine EVER. Neomi sees a crazy virgin vampire and goes "I can break that pony in right". She does a striptease with the immortal line, "Still not stimulating enough? Maybe Conrad wants to see my panties instead?" in order to PROVE TO HERSELF THAT HE CAN SEE HER LMAO. But she's also soooo sex positive, genuinely. She loves sex, she has no shame about being a burlesque dancer in the past, she takes such joy in not only being pleased but pleasing, and she wants him to have a full life, which, for him, will include sex. So breaking him in is basically charity, except she falls in love. I also love that Neomi became a ghost, basically, because she was so fucking angry that her horrible ex killed her right when she bought her own house that she just wasn't able to leave this earth. I love her, I love her.
Mariketa the Awaited/Awakened, witch, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Another forever girl, who I love almost as much as Neomi. A woman who got a college cheerleading scholarship and then dropped out of college. Has a hot pink bedroom with pom poms. Is also a witch of immense potential power. I knew I was gone for Mariketa after it was revealed that she brought a vibrator with her to the jungle while on a mystical quest for a time travel key thing, and I'm fairly certain that's when Bowen knew he was gone for Mariketa. When that moron called her the wrong name when he came and she dramatically left him a fuck you note in the mud and ran off to make a point before he stole her away to a private island? My GIRL. I love how blithe and fun Mariketa is. I love that her husband is her "beast familiar" and her parents know this, so her parents know she gets fucked doggy style in the dirt all night at least once a month. Good for Mariketa, I love all this for her.
Emmaline Troy, vampire/valkyrie hybrid, A Hunger Like No Other. A lot of people shit on Emma because she's so timid, but I actually find her to be really fun. Understandably, she's terrified when this giant wolf man takes off with her. She grows into her boldness, her new role as the werewolf queen--she fucking kills the vampire king, for fuck's sake (who is her father!!!). And as problematic as A Hunger Like No Other was... I enjoyed the old school romance style sexual awakening of Emma. It's not what I want taught to kids lmao, but it was a good story. Also, she summons lightning when she comes hard, and I think that's fun.
Kaderin the Coldhearted, valkyrie, No Rest for the Wicked. I like Kaderin a lot, but I don't know that I looove Kaderin. So many people do, I'm sure. She's a total badass. I love that she wears vampire fangs as trophies and then falls in love with one. I relate to her fear of emotional intimacy (maybe too much). I wish she'd been like... a little more accepting of Sebastian's love, but I get that this was the plot, so on, so on. I feel like Emma's rejection of Lachlain and Mariketa's rejection of Bowen felt more... authentic, though? Because Lachlain and Bowen were literal beasts, whereas Sebastian was honestly pretty accommodating. Even if he was a vampire.

2020 Reading Challenge - E-Book Edition!
According to Amazon, I have exactly 294 e-books currently sitting in my Kindle library.
Granted, some of these books have been read and are being saved for a second (or third, or fourth) re-read, but when it comes down to it, that number is around 40 books, give or take.
Which means I still have over 250 books that need to be read.
And it’s not like I haven’t tried! There are plenty of titles that, when opened up, will go to the last place I left off - that being chapter 5, or maybe chapter 10. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or a sudden interest in another author. Or a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. But whatever the reason may be, it’s over 250 books that haven’t been read. Challenge accepted!
For 2020, I commit to not buying any new books to add to my Kindle library (checking out books from the library is ok, because you’ve gotta support your local library!), and instead focus on the books I already have. So no addition of 99 cent books, or Kindle Unlimited books, or books that are suddenly 75% off. Only the books that I currently have.
As the reading commences, and after the book is finished, I’ll update my list to indicate what has been completed, along with the date purchased, and a short review (or a reason I just couldn’t finish it at all).
Below is the list for future reference - and to clarify my what my favorite genre is. Spoiler: it’s romance novels.

Why are the North Carolina Courage So Good?
Two-time National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Champion, three-time NWSL Shield Winners, and one-time Women’s International Champions Cup winner. If you haven’t guessed it already – yes, I’m talking about the North Carolina Courage Women’s Soccer Team.
It’s no surprise the NCC won the 2019 NWSL Championship (for the second time in a row). The reasoning isn’t just a coincidence, it has to do with experience, certain key players, and the history that got them there. From 2013 to 2016, the NCC was formerly known as the Western New York Flash. In 2017, the NWSL franchise sold and relocated as the North Carolina Courage.
In the first ever NWSL Championship game (2013), the Western New York Flash (currently NCC) lost 0-2 against the Portland Thorns, but won the NWSL Shield. In the 2016 Championship, the Western New York Flash (NCC) went against the Washington Spirit and won 3-2 after a penalty shoot-out. In the 2017 Championship game, the NCC lost 0-1 to the Thorns, but won the NSWL Shield (again). In 2018, the NCC and Thorns found their way to each other again and and finally won 3-0 against their rival, while also taking home the NWSL shield. In 2019, they became back-to-back champions as they took on the Chicago Red Stars, winning 4-0. They also claimed the NWSL Shield for the third time. Overall, the NCC have won the NWSL Championships three times, were runner-ups twice, and won the NWSL Shield four times. I’m not good at math, but hey, the numbers don’t lie.
Even though the NCC have a lot of experience going into finals, there’s a lot of talent within their team as well. Heading towards the 2019 Women’s World Cup, Jill Ellis called up four NCC players (Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis, Jessica McDonald and Crystal Dunn). Additionally, Abby Erceg who plays for New Zealand, Debinha for Brazil, and Stephanie Labbé for Canada also got to play in the 2019 WWC for their country. In total, that’s seven players out of twenty-five who played in the 2019 WWC.
Not to mention the NCC have a goal-scoring machine, AKA Lynn Williams, who made 12 goals of the 2019 NWSL season, placing 2nd under Sam Kerr for the most goals. Kristen Hamilton is ranked 3rd with nine goals. Debinha is placed in 2nd with seven assists, under Yuki Nagasato, and Jaelene Hinkle is ranked in 3rd with six assists. Overall, the NCC made 54 goals during the 2019 season, had 42 assists and made 364 shots with 171 of them being goals on target.
It’s a known fact that the NCC had a great season, but what makes them so dominant? The answer may lie within their experience, their players, or even North Carolina (the state). Looking into the history of North Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a hot spot for women’s soccer. It is also the birthplace of notable soccer players such as Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Heather O’Reilly, Whitney Engen, Lucy Bronze, Tobin Heath, Meghan Klingenberg, Lori Chalupny, Crystal Dunn, Allie Long, Katie Bowen, and Jessica McDonald. Recognize all those names? Same. Moreover, the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s soccer team has won 22 of the 36 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championships and are 4-time runner-ups. In addition to their legacy, the Tar Heels’ announced Heather O’Reilly as the new assistant coach. HAO, who’s had a legendary soccer career, is about to coach and mentor the Tar Heels’ women’s soccer in hopes of leaving and impact and leading the way for greatness.
So, if you want to know what makes a team so good? The answer may lie deeper than the coaches and the players. The history of women’s soccer and the experience within a particular area may contribute to what makes a team so dominate. North Carolina is one of the few states that carry along the encouragement for women’s soccer and most importantly, the youth. In order to build greatness, you have to have a strong foundation. To all the colleges, high schools, junior highs, elementary schools and after school programs – uplift the youth with sports and encourage them with the vision that they can lift up trophies, they can wear medals, they can stand in the hall of fame, they can make records and they can  become so good.
