Medical 3D Printing: Used in many fields such as industry or architecture, 3D printing or stereolithography is certainly one of the most important innovations in healthcare in recent years. It makes it possible to produce an object by printing it layer by layer by depositing and solidifying the material. Thanks to the 3D printer, more and more medical advances are emerging.
Medical 3D Printing: Here are the top 10 achievements of 3D health printing:
Medical 3D Printing: A skull
In 2014, Dr. Bon Verweij and Dr. Marvick Muradin of the University of Medicine in Utrecht rescued a patient with bone deformation of the skull. His days , counted until the operation and implantation of this plastic artificial skull made by a 3D printer.
This type of operation also took place on 15 July 2015 at the Second People’s Hospital in Hunan Province, China. This time, the skull printed for a child with hydrocephalus , made of titanium.
Medical 3D Printing: A heart or elements of the heart
While 3D printing is mostly based on relatively solid materials, scientists at Carnegie Mellon University in the US have succeeded in creating a prototype printer capable of handling much softer structures. This printer allowed them to produce coronary arteries.
In London, Mina, a little girl born with a heart defect, was able to return to normal life thanks to a 3D printer and doctors at St Thomas Hospital. The heart of the little girl showed a hole in the wall between the two ventricles, preventing the organ from doing its job properly. The doctors, therefore, designed an exact replica of her heart in 3D and were able to train and perfect the procedure that saved Mina.

(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-3'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
Medical 3D Printing:  An exoskeleton
In 2012, an exoskeleton made by a 3D printer allowed little Emma, suffering from an orphan disease that prevents the development of muscles, to regain the use of her arms.
Physicians Tariq Rahman and Whitney Sample used a 3D printer to make designs from thermoplastic designs that were much lighter than existing exoskeletons.

(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-2'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
Medical 3D Printing: A face
English surgeons were able to reconstruct the face of Stephen Powers, a victim of a serious motorcycle accident, thanks to stereolithography. The printer has provided surgeons with a reliable model for surgery.
Medical 3D Printing: A basin
Dr. Gerrand, a consultant in orthopedic surgery at the Newcastle Hospital in northern England, recently performed a medical first by recreating the pelvis of a patient with rare cancer called Chondrosarcoma.
The surgical procedure consisted of a meticulous removal of the diseased part of the pelvis and then the addition of the printed part in titanium, on which the bone can then rebuild.
Medical 3D Printing: A splint
Last year, three American infants were rescued by 3D printing a splint directly stitched into their trachea. The three little boys suffered from tracheomalacia, a severe respiratory disease. The prosthesis saved their lives. The disease was hitherto incurable.
Medical 3D Printing: One hand
Do you remember little Maxence? A lot of talk about it last year, Maxence has found part of the use of his right arm thanks to the 3D impression of a prosthesis, and this for about 50 euros.
There are also prostheses much more elaborate, but a prosthesis such as that of Maxence is a revolution because of its price and the fact that it does not require surgery.
Medical 3D Printing: The skin
A very young Girondine company, Poietis, is developing a technique of 3D printing of human tissues thanks to the laser. Applications are highly anticipated in both cosmetics and medicine. On the cosmetic side, this progress can make it possible to test the products on skin samples rather than on animals. As far as medicine is concerned, the objective is to generate tissues for skin grafts.
Medical 3D Printing: A jaw
The first artificial jaw printed in 3D was successfully implanted in 2011 in an 83-year-old woman, thanks to researchers from the University of Hasselt in the Netherlands. The patient’s jaw had been severely infected.
Medical 3D Printing: Medicines
On August 3, 2015, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the production and placing on the market (planned this year) of an antiepileptic drug: Spritam. This tablet has the particularity of being manufactured thanks to a three-dimensional printer. The 3D printing allows the personalization of the drug, that is to say, dosed exactly according to the size and the corpulence of the patient.

AIDS Disease Treatment: From the importance of vitamin D to air quality in retirement homes,
we present in bulk the latest news from the world of health.
AIDS Disease Treatment: Vitamin D, a Health Benefit for the Elderly
The risk of vitamin D deficiency increases with age, among other things because the skin does not absorb it as well.
Researchers at Loyola University in Chicago have correlated a low rate of “sun vitamin” with common disorders in the elderly,
a decline in cognitive ability, depression, osteoporosis and heart disease.
.healthyeve_afterpost width: 300px; height: 250px; @media(min-width: 600px) .healthyeve_afterpost width: 620px; height: 300px; (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-3'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
AIDS Disease Treatment: Men lose memory faster
Memory loss is not always a sign of dementia. This is often the simple consequence of aging.
However, if both sexes affected, according to a study by the Mayo American Clinic, men are more affected than women after 40 years.
.healthyeve_betweenpost width: 336px; height: 280px; @media(min-width: 600px) .healthyeve_betweenpost width: 620px; height: 300px; (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-2'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
At 60, their hippocampus is much more contracted than that of women.
AIDS Disease Treatment: Poor air quality in retirement homes
A study published in the European Respiratory Journal measured air pollution in 50 retirement homes in France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, and Denmark.
Those in Greece had the highest suspended particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, Belgium and Denmark, the largest quantities of formaldehyde and ozone.
Air quality met international sanitary standards, but the presence of certain particles would be responsible for respiratory disorders such as shortness of breath,
A chronic cough, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
AIDS Disease Treatment: Hormone replacement therapy increases risk of cancer
To reduce hot flushes and other symptoms of menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is rarely prescribed for more than five years because of its long-term risks.
A recent meta-analysis of 52 studies of 21,488 women worldwide suggests that even for less than five years, the risk of ovarian cancer increased.
Short-term use is still preferable to long-term intake, and this type of cancer remains rare: around 6.8 cases per 100,000 worldwide.
AIDS Disease Treatment: a powerful anti-HIV protein discovered in coral
Researchers at the National Cancer Institute have made an astounding and hopeful discovery in the fight against AIDS,
a deadly disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that attacks the immune system: anti- HIV viruses have been found in a coral of the waters of the northern coast of Australia.
About 35.3 million people are living with HIV worldwide, two-thirds of whom are in sub-Saharan Africa,
and more than one million people die each year as a result of AIDS. The figures are alarming and demonstrate a real global public health problem.
AIDS Disease Treatment: Cnidarins, a potent protein against HIV
These anti-HIV proteins, called cnidarins, discovered among thousands of samples of natural products
studied in the biological Bank of the National Cancer Institute.
In accordance with agreements with their countries of origin,
the Institute also has a large collection of natural specimens from all over the world.
Cnidarins would then be able to block the virus by preventing it from entering the T lymphocytes,
or T cells, responsible for cellular immunity.
“This differs completely from what we have seen with other proteins,
we believe that cnidarin proteins have a unique mechanism of action”
“Says Barry O’Keefe, Deputy Chief of the National Cancer Institute’s The Molecular Targets Laboratory.
“It’s always exciting to find a whole new protein that nobody else has ever discovered before,”.
AIDS Disease Treatment: Objective, to produce the protein in bulk to carry out clinical tests
Protein could then be developed as a gel or lubricant.
When applied locally, this gel could be a powerful barrier and prevent sexual transmission of HIV.
Nevertheless, scientists remain cautious as they still have to conduct clinical trials to verify the effectiveness of these anti-HIV proteins.
They wish to reproduce cnidarins in larger quantities without having to collect the coral from Australian waters in bulk, at the risk of destroying local fauna.
This new discovery brings new hope, that of finding one day a treatment against AIDS …

 Pneumonia Viral Infection: The Facts Behind This Disease And Possible Preventions – HealthyEve.com
Wednesday, February 1, 2017
Pneumonia Viral Infection is an infection of the lungs most often caused by a virus or bacterium.
The infection affects more precisely the pulmonary alveoli, these tiny balloon-shaped sacs at the tip of the bronchioles. It usually affects only one of the 5 lobes of the lung (3 lobes in the right lung and 2 in the left), hence the term lobar pneumonia.
When pneumonia also reaches the bronchi, called bronchopneumonia.
Pneumonia, in fact, means very different infections that are life-threatening or life-threatening. Thus, if pneumonia appears as a complication of a serious illness or in an elderly person, fatal. In very rare cases, pneumonia can also be fatal in a healthy person.
The disease usually manifests itself in a cough often accompanied by sputum, shortness of breath,  fever and chills. Pneumonia usually catches itself as  flu or a cold, by inhaling contaminated particles.
.healthyeve_afterpost width: 300px; height: 250px; @media(min-width: 600px) .healthyeve_afterpost width: 620px; height: 300px; (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-3'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
In some cases, it occurs after another respiratory infection, such as flu or bronchitis, which “degenerates” and settles in the alveoli of the lungs. Some of the symptoms may last several weeks. It is usually not contagious.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Causes
Almost all pneumonia , is caused by a virus or bacterium. When the microbe attacks the lungs, the body reacts by triggering an inflammatory reaction. The alveoli,  filled with pus and inflammatory fluid, which causes difficulty breathing.
.healthyeve_betweenpost width: 336px; height: 280px; @media(min-width: 600px) .healthyeve_betweenpost width: 620px; height: 300px; (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
(function($) $(document).ready(function() ); )(jQuery); (function ($) var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-2'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); , number_show_ads * 1000); if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) setTimeout(function () bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); , number_hide_ads * 1000); )(jQuery);
The physician must distinguish between two modes of contraction of pneumonia: contraction in the hospital (nosocomial pneumonia) and contraction outside the hospital (community-acquired pneumonia).
Nosocomial pneumonia is generally more dangerous because it occurs in people impaired by another disease. At the hospital, pneumonia is often transmitted by mechanical ventilation devices (intubation) to intensive care units.
The exact type of bacteria or virus responsible for pneumonia in a given patient is only known in half of the cases, partly because laboratory techniques are not performing well. For information, here are the ones that are most frequently found in people with pneumonia.
Bacteria. Bacterial infections usually cause typical pneumonia (see Symptoms section). Most of the time, Haemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pneumoniae (causing pneumococcal pneumonia) bacteria are responsible.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: More info
Atypical pneumonia manifests itself in symptoms that’s less pronounced than typical pneumonia. For example, some people with pneumonia have no fever or chest pain.
Pneumonia resembles a respiratory infection, such as bronchitis, sinusitis or influenza (influenza). Among the bacteria that cause atypical pneumonia are Mycoplasma pneumoniae (causing mycoplasma pneumonia), Chlamydia pneumoniae and Legionella pneumophila (responsible for Legionnaires’ disease).
Virus. The most frequent are influenza and parainfluenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus, cold viruses (rhinoviruses), herpes-like viruses or even SARS. The influenza virus, that is to say, the influenza virus sometimes reaches the pulmonary alveoli and thus causes viral pneumonia.
Subsequently, the respiratory system weakened by the viral infection can open the door to a potentially more serious bacterial superinfection. Early in 2003, a severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic resulted in deaths in several countries. China, Singapore and Canada (especially the City of Toronto) were the most affected. In total, more than 8,000 people were infected with SARS.
Of these, 800 died, including 43 in Canada. The epidemic, controlled within 4 months through measures to prevent its transmission (wearing masks, quarantine, etc.). SARS caused by a highly contagious coronavirus.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Diagnosis
The doctor evaluates the symptoms, asks about family history and auscultate the lungs. He may administer a radiological examination of the lungs and ask for an analysis of the pulmonary secretions (expelled by coughing). If necessary, it will use other tests, such as the search for bacteria in the blood.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Complications
Pneumonia , cured most of the time in 2 weeks or a little more. However, more time is often needed before recovering completely.
Although they are rare, some serious complications are possible.
Pleural effusion. It is the accumulation of inflammatory fluid between the two layers of the pleura, which causes a compression of the lung. If there is a lot of liquid, removed by suction. Exceptionally, this fluid may persist and become purulent. Surgery is often necessary. An abscess in the lung.
Respiratory distress. When pneumonia affects both lungs, breathing becomes extremely difficult. Assisted ventilation is often necessary.
A septic shock, that is to say, a generalized infection of the body due to the passage of the bacteria from the lungs to the blood. This occurs mainly with pneumococcal pneumonia.
With antibiotics, pneumonia causes fewer deaths than before. All the same, both pneumonia and influenza (influenza) are the leading cause of death from an infectious disease in Canada.
Very old people with a lower immune system and people with other serious illnesses are more likely to succumb to it.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Symptoms
Pneumonia, typical
A sudden rise in a fever of up to 41 ºC (106 ºF) and severe chills. Short breath, rapid breathing, and pulse. A cough. At first, the cough is dry. After a few days, it becomes greasy and accompanied by yellowish or greenish secretions, sometimes streaked with blood. Thoracic pain that intensifies during coughing and deep breathing. Degradation of the general state (fatigue, loss of appetite).
Muscular pains. Headaches. Wheezing. Some signs of severity must lead to immediate hospitalization.
Altered consciousness. Pulse too fast (greater than 120 beats per minute) or the respiratory rate greater than 30 breaths per minute. Temperature above 40 ° C (104 ° F) or below 35 ° C (95 ° F).
Atypical pneumonia
Atypical pneumonia is more misleading because its symptoms are less specific. They can be manifested by headaches, digestive disorders or joint pain. Coughing is present in 80% of cases, but in only 60% of cases in the elderly.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Prevention
Basic Preventive Measures
Have a healthy lifestyle (sleep, eating, physical exercise, etc.), especially during the winter. See our Strengthening our immune system for more information.
No smoking helps prevent pneumonia. Smoke makes the airways more vulnerable to infections. Children are particularly sensitive to it. Wash hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based solution.
The hands are constantly in contact with microbes that can cause all kinds of infections, including pneumonia. These come into the body when you rub your eyes or nose and when you put your hands to your mouth. When taking antibiotics to treat an infection, it is important to follow the treatment from the beginning to the end.
Observe the hygiene measures displayed in clinics and hospitals such as washing hands or wearing a mask if necessary.
Pneumonia Viral Infection: Other measures to prevent the onset of the disease
The vaccine against influenza. The influenza virus can cause pneumonia directly or indirectly. Thus, the influenza vaccine reduces the risk of pneumonia. renewed every year.
Specific vaccines. Pneumococcal vaccine protects against pneumonia with Streptococcus pneumoniae, the most common in adults (it combats 23 serotypes of pneumococci).
This vaccine (Pneumovax®, Pneumo® and Pnu-Immune®) is most suitable for adults with diabetes or COPD, people with weakened immune systems, and those aged 65 years and older. Its effectiveness convincingly demonstrated in seniors residing in long-term care facilities.
Prevenar® vaccine offers good protection against meningitis in young children, and a slight protection against ear infections and pneumococcal pneumonia.
