what's the government's response to the awful waiting times to access medical transition? make it harder for people to get referred in the first place. if we can gatekeep a bunch of trans people from ever getting referred in the first place, the waiting lists will be shorter! genius! /s
#caique posts#this is specifically about trans kids and the inhumane waiting times at the *only* clinic for trans kids in the whole england and wales#the proposal would mean GPs will not be able to refer trans kids to clinics directly#they'd have to go through counselling with a separate children and young peoples mental health services before being able to be referred#despite the fact that a psychological evaluation is part of the normal process of receiving hrt/surgery referrals in the first place!!#it literally takes place already in the clinics!! why do they need to go through it twice?!!#i hate this country#vent#uk politics

Influx of anti activity in the Odazai tag recently... Wish the youth of this day was taught that it's their own responsibility to avoid things they don't like. But all these incendiary posts, as if they're expecting us odazai shippers go out of our way to harass them for not liking what we do? I have better things to do with my time, kiddos. Their victim complex is so blatant, I hope they can learn to get out of that mindset and into a healthier one.
Also, tumblr search function is broken as usual, so even if they don't tag the ship directly it still shows up in the search results, sigh. Super job, tumblr. Really amazing.
#odazai#bsd#bungou stray dogs#ramblings#when i see those kinds of anti posts i just end up feeling sad for these kids#feels like they're making themselves miserable on purpose#protect your mental health kids#block relevant tags#don't interact with things that upset you#and nobody owes you an explanation for why they like what they like#there's no moral argument for ships#that is a toxic puritanical mindset#that you need to extract yourself from#hashtag aunty j counselling service lol

For anyone just starting college or going back to college, if you do not already know this: many countries legally require reasonable accommodations for disability. This includes anxiety, depression, PTSD, and migraines among many, many others.
If you are struggling and think getting extra time to complete an assignment, need more absentee days than are allotted, or a quiet place to take exams would help you, reach out to your university's disability or accessibility resource department and ask for it.
#ymmv depending on which country you're attending school but most countries have some laws regarding this#there are a lot of accommodations to ask for depending on the situation but also depends on the school and the country#for example: deaf students can ask for interpreters#there are pens that record lectures when the student takes notes#video recording zoom lectures by default is another common one#note taking for other students is one i used to do#there's one that prevents professors from randomly calling on you in class#also remember your tuition probably paid for health and counseling services at your campus

The Family Services Saskatchewan (FSSK) will expand its services for children, youth and their caregivers thanks to new annual funding from the Saskatchewan government.
On June 14, the province announced $1.7 million for FSSK to expand free, rapid access counselling services across the province with Regina and Saskatoon being the first communities to launch the services.
According to a release, the Mental Health and Addictions Minister stated this is an important expansion for services to those they tend to serve. From stress, depressions, family conflict, addictions and domestic violence, children, youth and their caregivers can access support.

Hi friends, with uni starting up again I've been really motivated and grateful, but I am going through a lot mentally and emotionally with family stuff (more than usual lol) so I was considering using the uni counselling service. The qualm I have is that I only get access to four sessions for free, and then can have only six more for the year (billed). I'd rather not start at all than be cut off from sessions before I can reap the benefits...
That's why I wanted to ask anyone who has used university- or college-based counselling services what your experience of it was. you can just answer in the poll, but i'd also really appreciate if you could tell me more about it in my inbox if you're open to it

This new job has a wellness program where they encourage staff to take at least 3 hours per week, during work hours, to better their physical and/or mental health. So, I can literally tell the professor I report to "Hey, I'm taking wellness time" and go for a walk or take a long lunch or whatever. It's wild to go from workplaces that actively made my mental health WORSE to a place that values it.

as someone who has dealt with this issue personally on repeated accounts, if you or anyone you know is struggling with schizophrenia (not ‘schizophrenic’) or symptoms of psychosis, with the 988 lifeline for crisis, you can call or text and speak to a trained professional who is better prepared to help and won’t be sending a non-specialized cop to your door (although this may be necessary in emergency cases). the 988 lifeline reports that emergency services are only necessary in less than 2% of cases, are only involved in immediate risk of self-harm or harm of others, and require the caller’s prior consent.
it was designed for suicide prevention but has since been expanded to provide mental health crisis services. that being said, the suicide prevention hotline number (1-800-273-TALK) is also available indefinitely.
please share for any of y’all asking about an alternative resource, and stay safe out there. you’re never alone.
It's so cruel that if a black schizophrenic person wants any kind of help, they probably have to call 911, a centralized line for all emergency services. Even if they don't intend to call the police, there's a chance of them being sent in place of other emergency services. If you ask for them not to be called, you'll rarely be listened to. Then, the advice for dealing with police is to be in complete control of yourself, not be erratic in the slightest way because it gives ground for your death. So if you are someone who is not in control of yourself, who has a disorder that effects your ability to control your speech, body, mind, etc etc, you cannot call for help without risking death or institutionalization

Utah Valley Counseling in Provo, UT: Your Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety and stress are common struggles that many individuals face in today’s fast-paced world. Whether it stems from work, personal relationships, or a sense of overwhelming responsibility, anxiety and stress can deeply impact one’s quality of life. The good news is that seeking professional help is a powerful first step toward reclaiming control and finding lasting relief. Brookside Counseling in Provo, UT, provides comprehensive counseling services designed to help individuals overcome anxiety and stress using evidence-based techniques and a compassionate, supportive environment. This guide will explore how therapy at Brookside Counseling can empower you to manage anxiety and stress effectively.
1. Understanding Anxiety and Stress
Before diving into how Utah Valley Counseling Provo UT can help, it’s essential to understand the nature of anxiety and stress and how they affect mental and physical health.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural emotional response to perceived threats or challenging situations. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, such as before an important presentation or test. However, when anxiety becomes chronic or disproportionate to the situation, it can interfere with daily life. Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Persistent worry or fear about future events.
Physical symptoms like a racing heart, sweating, or shallow breathing.
Difficulty concentrating or sleeping.
Avoidance of situations that might trigger anxiety.
Chronic anxiety can manifest as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, or phobias. It can significantly hinder your ability to engage in normal activities and maintain healthy relationships.
Stress
Stress is a physical and emotional response to external pressures, whether they are job-related, financial, or personal. While stress is a normal part of life, long-term or chronic stress can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, gastrointestinal issues, and weakened immune function. The psychological effects of stress can include irritability, burnout, and feelings of helplessness.
Over time, unchecked anxiety and stress can lead to more serious mental health challenges, including depression and burnout. This is where counseling becomes a crucial tool in managing both conditions.
2. How Brookside Counseling Helps With Anxiety and Stress
At Brookside Counseling, therapists are trained to help individuals address and overcome anxiety and stress by using a variety of therapeutic techniques. The goal is to help clients develop healthier coping mechanisms, challenge negative thought patterns, and ultimately reduce the impact of anxiety and stress on their lives. Here’s how therapy can help:
a. Identifying Triggers
The first step in addressing anxiety and stress is understanding what triggers these feelings. During therapy, you will work with your counselor to identify specific situations, thoughts, or behaviors that contribute to your stress or anxiety. Whether it’s work-related pressures, relationship conflicts, or negative self-talk, understanding the root causes of anxiety and stress is essential to finding effective solutions.
Therapists use techniques like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe negative or irrational thoughts that contribute to anxiety. By learning to challenge these thoughts and replace them with more rational alternatives, individuals can reduce the emotional intensity of their stressors.
b. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety and Stress
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely-used and effective therapies for treating anxiety and stress. CBT operates on the principle that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected. Often, anxiety and stress are fueled by negative thought patterns, which can be challenged and changed through CBT.
Here’s how CBT works:
Identifying Negative Thought Patterns: In CBT, individuals are taught to recognize automatic, often irrational thoughts that fuel anxiety and stress. These might include catastrophic thinking (e.g., "If I make a mistake at work, I’ll get fired and lose everything"), all-or-nothing thinking (e.g., "If I’m not perfect, I’m a failure"), or overgeneralization (e.g., "I always mess up, so I’ll never succeed").
Challenging Negative Thoughts: Once negative thought patterns are identified, clients are guided to examine the evidence for and against these thoughts. This helps individuals see that their anxiety may not be based on reality, and they can begin to replace distorted thoughts with more realistic ones.
Behavioral Activation: For individuals experiencing stress or anxiety due to a lack of engagement or motivation, therapists may encourage behavioral activation, which involves scheduling and engaging in positive activities to break the cycle of avoidance and procrastination. This helps individuals feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
Developing Coping Strategies: CBT also focuses on teaching clients coping skills, such as relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices, and time-management strategies. These tools help reduce the physical and emotional effects of stress and anxiety.
c. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques
Mindfulness-based therapies have proven to be highly effective for reducing anxiety and stress. Mindfulness involves being fully present in the moment without judgment. By focusing on the present and letting go of worries about the future or regrets about the past, individuals can break the cycle of anxiety.
At Utah Valley Counseling Provo UT, therapists teach clients mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing exercises, guided imagery, and body scanning. These methods help calm the nervous system and reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety, such as rapid heartbeat and shallow breathing.
Additionally, progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is another technique used to help individuals release physical tension associated with stress. By systematically tensing and relaxing muscle groups, clients can learn to become more aware of their body’s responses to stress and use these techniques to self-soothe in stressful situations.
d. Exposure Therapy for Anxiety
For individuals dealing with specific phobias or panic disorder, exposure therapy is a highly effective approach. Exposure therapy involves gradually and systematically exposing individuals to the situations or objects that trigger their anxiety in a controlled and supportive environment. Over time, this process helps desensitize individuals to the feared object or situation, reducing anxiety.
For example, someone with social anxiety might work with their therapist to practice engaging in social situations in a gradual, manageable way. As they experience success and learn to manage their anxiety, they build confidence and reduce their fear response.
e. Stress Management and Time Management
For many individuals, stress is closely related to feeling overwhelmed by daily demands. Whether it's balancing work, family, or personal goals, stress often arises from a sense of lack of control over time. At Brookside Counseling, therapists work with clients to teach effective stress management strategies, including prioritization, delegation, and setting realistic expectations.
Time management techniques, such as creating to-do lists, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and setting achievable goals, help reduce feelings of being overwhelmed. By learning to manage time more effectively, individuals can reduce unnecessary stress and regain a sense of control.
3. Building Resilience and Preventing Burnout
One of the key outcomes of therapy at Brookside Counseling is the development of resilience—the ability to bounce back from life’s challenges. By learning healthy coping strategies and developing a more positive mindset, individuals can build emotional strength and prevent burnout.
Therapists may also explore lifestyle factors that contribute to stress, such as poor sleep habits, lack of exercise, or inadequate self-care. Improving these aspects of daily life can significantly enhance your ability to cope with stress and anxiety.
4. When to Seek Help
It can be difficult to know when it’s time to seek professional help for anxiety and stress. However, if anxiety or stress is affecting your daily functioning—whether it’s interfering with your relationships, work, or overall well-being—it may be time to seek support. Brookside Counseling in Provo, UT, offers a compassionate, confidential environment where you can explore your concerns, receive tailored support, and start your journey toward healing.
5. Conclusion
Anxiety and stress are common experiences, but they don’t have to control your life. At Brookside Counseling, therapists are dedicated to helping you understand and manage your anxiety and stress through evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness practices, and stress management techniques. By gaining a deeper understanding of your triggers, developing coping skills, and building resilience, you can take proactive steps toward living a more balanced, peaceful life.
If you’re ready to take the first step toward overcoming anxiety and stress, contact Brookside Counseling in Provo, UT, today to schedule a consultation. Let us support you on your path to mental wellness and inner peace.
