So I know i haven't been around on tumblr like, at all lately, due to multiple reasons, but I'm trying to get back into blogging more. In this vein I've been thinking of expanding this into a multi-fandom blog. I'll probably still be posting mostly bsd/odazai but I've been sucked (back) into multiple (old/new) fandoms lately and i think i wanna diversity a bit. Will ofc tag everything so stuff my followers don't want to see is easy to block.

Also haven't forgotten about that 100 follower surprise. I'll be posting more about thar shortly.

Dazai's entire life basically revolves around Oda! And BEAST exists! TF!

thinking about how fucking gay that one new year's event odazai are. like, lemme just show you:

dazai invited odasaku, who wore something special (that he doesn't usually wear) without provocation just to meet him. [documentary narrator voice] and here we see a wild odasaku blooming into himself soon after meeting dazai.

oda decided to wear clothes he usually doesn't to meet dazai. dazai decided not to kill himself because he plans to meet odasaku today. *tears in my eyes* this is fine 👍

oda is...so fucking cute i can't even. "be careful not to drink too much" the most precious boyfriend ever, "i might trip with this on" 🥺.

moving on to "new year's should be celebrated...i'm told." lmao. someone had to tell him, i wonder who. if it's dazai, then consider the implications of someone like dazai who wants to end his life telling odasaku he should celebrate. i'm feeling very normal about them.

and finally "will i be able to drink like this again?"...odasakuuuuuuuuuu. my boy. he makes me so sad. he met his first friend and is always so anxious to stay with each other 🥺😮‍💨

also, did dazai dance with odasaku? or dance for him??? YELLING.

i'd say this would've either been before they met ango (or ango wasn't invited to the date night lolololol). they must've known each other for only a while given they met in autumn...

i wonder who got odasaku his clothes. did dazai gift it? doesn't seem like it, so i'm wondering if he went out to buy clothes he had never bought before by himself. idk just the image of all this is so sweet and domestic and O(—( odazai the ship that you are.

(i'm not going into the animal symbolism because 1) idk shit and 2) there's already a post about it in length fleshing it out better than i ever could. trust me, it makes everything gayer)

Not to be dramatic but what I love about Odazai is that, unlike any other ship I've sailed on before, love is almost irrevocable when it concerns these two.

When you really boil it down, their relationship is built on almost nothing but love. It's almost like a cruel joke.

Love is what changed Oda, and what made Oda find one of the few intimate companionship in his adult life to a man who's made enemies with half the world. Almost nothing can really emulate the weight of the unspoken between these two characters who've only learnt to lose. They're smart enough to know how their bond will end but not strong enough to actually pull away. And if that isn't love, I don't really fucking know what is.

Random shower thought: but odazai is one of the few ships that don't have to stick to being just romantic, or platonic, it's just that their love is so fleshed-out and haunts almost every panel in Bungou stray dogs.

Oda loved dazai so much that it changed the whole narrative of the show.

i was having a rather fun conversation w folks in the server and i think i should say this here as well

i think it's deeply necessary to see oda as a character outside of "guy who is supposed to fix dazai" because. he's such a well-written character. i don't like it when his passivity wrt dazai is judged and ango and...chuuya? for some reason? are touted as "better influences" on dazai who "actually worked to fix him" while "oda just sat around".

it's overlooking a LOT of things, mainly how everyone is supposed to be quiet about each other's pasts in the mafia (at least from oda's perspective), and that oda doesn't see himself as qualified to offer advice to anyone.

he definitely would've overcome this to some extent with time, given how freely and boldly he advises akutagawa in BEAST, and:

it's not really his fault they're doomed by the fucking narrative.

it's very important to me that oda be allowed to have his issues and display symptoms of those issues without judgement, as well as the fact that i think "odasaku, tell me what i should do" was the most important sentence dazai could've spoken for himself. that is, while it would've been nice if odasaku really had spoken up and deepend his and dazai's friendship (and it is a very big part of their tragedy that they didn't), i do like the fact that it was dazai himself that chose to ask how he should live from here on out.

tldr i don't like the "odasaku was at fault for not fixing dazai sooner" take because it very much feels like seeing a character as a narrative device instead of a character (which is boring, especially when the character is as interesting as odasaku), and i don't like the "ango and chuuya had the correct response to dazai" take because i don't think you can wrangle someone into fixing themselves. acceptance and lack of judgement were the most important parts of why dazai listened to oda of all people in the cast ("you're humble, i don't dislike that").

very naturally, ship negativity under the cut. also, long post because if i don't justify every other consonant in my post i might die i think.

first of all, KEEP THAT GIRL (ODASAKU) AWAY FROM HIM! why would odasaku ever love his betraying ass when being betrayed is like. his one true set-off button. and also his gun's. why would he-

honestly you already know and share all of my opinions and then some, but i'm gonna elaborate for public convenience. look, i'm not the kind to hate on a rarepair. they would've made a perfectly good rarepair. do you already see the problem here? it's not! a fucking! rarepair!

anyone that has been deep into the buraiha enjoyers side of the fandom (me. us.) knows why exactly this ship is so popular. it's not only a pair-the-spares ship, it's also mOraLLy pURe. basically, it's only selling point to like 99% of its shippers is that not only it isn't odazai, it also retcons odazai. it's a fucking hub of godforsaken antis. that's why i ticked the harrasment magnet box. if you ship that ship (in the eng fandom), you will end up on the harassers side of the fandom inevitably. and they will the fuck not spare you lmao.

but that's why most of the shippers suck (mandatory not all shippers, especially not my lovely friends who ship it). let's move on to the ship itself.

1) it's so fucking obviously a pair-the-spares ship with all the spark of a soggy bread. it's the worst thing a ship can do: be. fucking. BORING.

2) the dynamic i've seen being touted in fanon is just...odazai. because they don't really have a canonical interesting dynamic of their own, the anti ass kids have decided odazai is free real estate anyway. straighten your spine and just ship the ship whose dynamic you actually like ffs.

see what i mean? when we have wan of odazai flirting and ango screaming internally about it?

("we need ango to protect oda from people who want him dead" throws the BEAST LN at this mf he had the chance pre-dark era and didn't take it)

hey. guess who brought him flowers first. (lmao bringing flowers to a grave has to be romantic for this ship to work, fucking miserable).

3) little miss characterisation. this is what bugs me about most ships i dislike for reasons other than a simple "i just don't fw it". and BOY is this ship FUCKING trite with it. all the variants of this ship (other than by like. the 2 people i personally fw that ship it as OT3 anyway) just fucking suck. "od*ngo and their baby son dazai" WRONG "dazai forgives ango when he comes to know ango was in love with oda" WRONG "oda and ango make out while dazai is annoyed" WRONG. the sheer disregard of dazai's feelings for odasaku (platonic or otherwise), mischaracterisation of the parts of odasaku that make him fucking interesting (no he isn't Forgiving Level Headed Dad, that's a 23 yr old with Unaddressed Issues), dazai's infantilisation when he is just as much an equal and a friend to them both, minimising ango's role in the friendship breakup, yada yada yada you get the point.

there was this take of "in the buraiha breakup scene, oda was protecting ango from scary old dazai!" which i can and will post a wall of text ass screenshot to debunk:

this guy used to shoot people point-blank if they betrayed him, even at the cost of going to prison. don't tell me he wasn't hurt by ango's betrayal and was entirely unforgiving of it. in fact, had he been alive, he would've been just as vengeful as dazai if not more.

it's as the shipping gods say: if you have to bend the characters' personalities and interpersonal dynamics, and even canon entirely to ship it...it just Ain't All That.

tldr: it's a nothingburger pair-the-spares ship rife with antis that wish it was odazai and mutilate odasaku's entire character to make it work, while trying their hardest to ignore dazai's existence as much as possible. can't say i fw that, so i just avoid it.
