There is water in coffee. There is water in vodka. There is water in most of the cocktails I like." Cat, unimpressed: "Yes, clearly Alec is worried for nothing." Magnus: "I'm glad you understand."

I had really forgotten that Raphael has died ok? I don't know why, just Raphael Santiago was still alive in my head.

And I haven't read the lost book of the white yet, but I've read the extract there is at the end of the red scrolls of magic. So I've just assumed that in the end of the book they save ragnor.

I don't really want to know if they manage to save him, I want to find on my own so pls don't do spoilers.

But if they don't manage to save him, just imagine that they succeeded. And if they do manage, then you don't have to imagine anything.

But. Listen. Me. Out.

Ragnor, after he comes back to himself from being demonized, finds all his loved ones there. Magnus and Catarina are there, Tessa and Malcolm amd even Jocelyn has shown up (alec is there too bc he wants to be there for magnus, and Clary wants to save ragnor because he's the reason Jocelyn is alive, so jace ofc is with them bc where these two go, jace goes).

ANYWAY.

And it's just one person missing. Raphael. And ragnor is a little hurt because he was supposed to be dead for a couple of years and then he was possessed by a demon, and the least Raphael could do was show up. But he also knows how raph is so he doesn't take it personally. He just says "So what? The dickhead Raphael was too busy as always to attend my welcome back party?" And it's a joke. He's joking. But as he looks around at his friends' devastated faces, and Magnus almost being in tears, he realises.

And oh.

Isn't that the most hideous realisation on earth? Because Raphael is dead. He was gone too long and now his Raphael has died. He looks at his best friend for centuries, and pleads him with his eyes to say it isn't true. That his Raphael is alive. He has tears in his eyes as he shakes his head repeatedly ever so slightly no. But Magnus only clenches his eyes shut, a few tears slipping down his cheeks as he whispers "I'm so sorry".

And then Ragnor breaks down. For the first time in all the centuries he's been alive for, he sobs hard as his two best friends' arms circle him in a secure hug.

And then it all clicks for Alec. Because right then is when he remembers a young boy with dark hair, a phone on his hand, countless unread and unresponded messages, and lastly, a saved contact as "RF".

Ok I know Ragnor isn't emotional and that's out of character but he's been imprisoned and possessed for years and he just found out his lover is dead so i think it is a suitable reaction. What do you guys think?

Also, all this because I had forgotten about Raphael's death and I was thinking their reunion :')

-Magnus tried teaching at The Shadowhunter Academy. He was fired after 3 days (and Catarina does not let him forget this)

Crossover Headcanon: Pairings

A/N: Because the fandoms I write for are in the teenage media space, I thought of which would be pairings ideal for crossovers, from romantic to friendship. These are the characters from the fandoms I write for that I could see work well together as the cast for a crossover AU.

-Joco from Shaman King and Izuki from Kuroko's Basketball would be the best of friends. In an alternate universe, these two are aspiring comedians trying to come up with an act that could change the world together. I can also see Izuki's family taking Joco in and giving him a place to stay once they learnt their son befriended a homeless orphan as well as that Izuki's family would be a great home for Joco. These two together have a tendency to cause Hyuga to develop a headache. Especially when Kiyoshi decides to join in on the fun. -Vert from Hyperdimension Neptunia wants to adopt KNB's Momoi. Because of their similar personalities and chests, Vert's obsession with wanting a little sister kicks in whenever she sees Momoi and she wants to be her big sister. -Senri from Vampire Knight actually gets along with Shu Sakamaki from Diabolik Lovers. Shu is Senri's casual go-to friend for peaceful sleepovers. Takuma may join if he's in a calm reading mood. -A part of my soul is convinced Celine Montclaire from the Shadowhunter Chronicles would have been a perfect fit for Lyserg Diethel. A rich, British, handsome nice man with a dark side? That's a description that befits both Stephen and Lyserg. Whereas Celine's fragile air that makes everyone adore her reminds me of Jeanne. It just works! -Makoto Tachibana and Kiyoshi Teppei are distant cousins. If there's an AU where both Free! and KNB exist in the same universe, there is no way in hell these two aren't related. -Kagami from Miraculous Ladybug is member of one of the book clubs Hyperdimension Neptunia's Blanc frequently attends. The two often exchange light novel reccomendations. -Plutia from Hyperdimension Neptunia is related to Cordelia Sakamaki. Kanato is the only one of her distant cousins that she somewhat likes. -KNB's Kise is the grandchild of Jace Herondale from the Shadowhunter Chronicles. Remember how Jace had a one night stand before dating Clary? Kise's mom was born out of that one night stand. Supremely handsome, golden eyes and Kise is a prodigy at pretty much every sport because of his copying ability? I swear, Kise is ripe for a fanfic where he discovers he and his sisters are the new lost Herondales. -Zoe from MLB's father actually bought a painting by Jocelyn Fairchild from the Shadowhunter Chronicles once. -Speaking of MLB X TSC crossovers, never put Plagg and Magnus in the same room unless you want another catastrophy worthy of the extinction of the dinosaurs to happen. -Shaman King's Ryu got rejected by TSC's Isabelle Lightwood in the past. -Gabriel Agreste from MLB actually was the tailor who made the lolita dresses for Iron Maiden Jeanne (Shaman King). Marco wanted nothing but the best of France for his French adoptee. -Catarina Loss from TSC was amongst the nurses who took care of KNB's Kiyoshi Teppei when he was in America for his surgery. -KNB's Murasakibara is one of the few people who buy Horohoro's candy (Shaman King). As a matter of fact, the only reason Horohoro's still producing the flop-candy is because Murasakibara buys big enough batches to store at Yosen for the production to continue. -Speaking of KNB and SK, I actually think Momoi and Tamao are cousins but they never met due to Tamao being orphaned at such a young age. -Because of Hyperdimension Neptunia's Vert big chest but also the way she is supposed to be a blonde American beauty and KNB's Aomine has a thing for Marilyn Monroe, he'd develop a crush on Vert if they'd ever meet. The fact she's a goddess and could whoop his ass doesn't intimidates him at all. -Free!'s Rin Matsuoka and KNB's Kagami actually were forced to sit across one another at the Maji Burger once when it was busy and there was no other seat for Kagami available but the empty one across Rin's. The two actually shared a chat and once they actually learnt they had a few things in common such as being an athlete and having studied abroad in an English speaking country, they decided to exchange emails to hang out some time.

the magician – how does your muse feel about fate? do they believe they can change their own destiny?

i don't think catarina believes in fate so much as she believes in cycles? there are cycles of everything. like karma, the dragon whose blood supplements her family's lineage. what goes around comes around – she adheres to that a lot in life and believes that people always, always get theirs. things come in threes. the more things change the more they stay the same. people repeat themselves. in some way or another, there's always a cycle of something.

but because destiny isn't really something he expects to chart the course of his life, he strongly believes in the power of like... decisiveness and strength of character/conviction. you choose the future and the path you walk, for the most part. to that end, sometimes she'll help instigate 'karma' according to her own judgement. and the same applies to the whole of her life, i think. where she sees fit to but in, she probably will. if she didn't believe she could change her lot in life, i don't think she would make the journey post-tadpole in the first place; she definitely sees herself as capable of like... doing something. if this doesn't end the way she wants it to, she at least did her damnedest to get close.

and naturally, i think her guardian is compelled by a sort of pragmatic approach to changing the tide of fate. in their own ways, they're both sort of hellbent on mending their own wounds before the world can get any worse for them (and others consequentially).

the hierophant – what are your muse’s morals / ethics? do they follow their moral code strictly?

OH MAN!!! it's definitely chaotic neutral for a reason. she has a sort of personal code she adheres to... in terms of being very protective of innocence, he won't let certain things go unpunished/ignored. that said, catarina can be a little selective in terms of what justice means in different corners of his life. i think in times of really great despair or considering the greater good, he tends to look ahead rather than into specifics. he doesn't make excuses for shitty choices, he just has his own priorities and has VERY little care for what others think of him.

it's like. yes she will follow her own beliefs but probably not to a hard T – there are grey areas (like. Late Game Stuff has grey areas that he's like. Well that's awful. That's an awful lot in life. But I can't save everybody and make everything right. There's a whole world at stake.) there are things that haunt him but never ones that are trivial. she holds herself to pretty high standards and has trouble forgiving herself for losses she tried to prevent, though. it's like this deep and turbulent sense of guilt that's been buried 7 leagues under the sea and goes unaddressed.

i think it's because of his carried, quiet sense of guilt that almost no one sees that the guardian can reach him emotionally in the first place. like... he disarms it and reassures her. it's not your fault the world is wicked. is that for his own good? is it for hers? to her, she knows what he's doing. they have to work together, and catarina suspects he's being used as a means to an end from the beginning. but there's this looming tenderness that i think sort of neither of them know what to do with. like. you've saved me and i'm your sword and this is going to hurt but then why do you let me in like this. YOU KNOW. the guardian inspires a lot of like. catarina's urge to be saved. and he knows that obviously. so even as she resents him for it... onward they move. and sometimes the rules get bent for the sake of that to keep poisonously blooming.

the lovers – how important are relationships to your muse? do they value having a significant other?

catarina grew up in a HUGE family like huge (so many brothers) and her parents' marriage is one full of love. two of her elder brothers got married before she even left home and they're like very fulfilled/have a strong sense of love and judgement and she sees it as a very like... when your life is settled down you'll know what you want/you'll know what's right for you. he's had quite a few flings so far but nothing very serious. i think she had a very sweet significant other about 10 years ago but it didn't last very long? like... it was too sweet and not quite fast enough and didn't do it for her.

me making this character in the bare bones stage like: yeah there's no way idk what to do she feels doomed to end up in a mcr romance (and obviously got one). she's not dependent on love, never has been, has been perfectly fine not falling in love and didn't see it for herself for a while in fact! but. The weight of desire when it disgusts you and you're digging your own hole that is not your grave and so on.

yeah he falls in love:( and it's like the best and worst possible thing. illustrious codependency woohoo! they become inextricable from each other! but catarina at least finds comfort in that she's not alone. her guardian didn't intend for it to wind up what it is, either. it's important for her to turn that measure of control he wields on its head. she likes him vulnerable 🤔. i digress

tl;dr catarina def has like fable-adjacent dragon tendencies. she is possessive and greedy and delights in whimsy with her pretty shiny thing. so he wasn't seeking to add to a hoard but when u find a jewel what are u gonna do... Leave it.... When It's Making Sure U Don't Turn Into a Mindflayer... Give Me a Break

justice – does your muse find it easy to be impartial in emotional situations?

not at all. he's relatively course/stoic in terms of disposition but high tension makes his temper flare. he's not the one to find if you need a cool head. catarina is like... more likely to breathe fire than to make sense. i think the guardian is her voice of reason (when he's not urging him to EAT WORM). he's a lot more realistic than she is when there's a lot at stake. her resistance melts and she throws tiffs.

the world – is there one thing in life that your muse must accomplish? what will they do when they complete that goal?

i think catarina's goal is more like his birthright, which is to protect the vestige her family watches over. he has to live and die making sure that thing stays safe and cared for. being the most draconic of her brothers she feels the most connected to it as well, so that definitely plays a part too! otherwise, i think her ambitions rest more in seeing what more the world has to offer, and assuring her family's security and happiness. he tries not to think too hard ahead, or about the end. an everlasting ambition is more comfortable.

his guardian is... trying to protect the world from absolute destruction, heheG:JSDGLKSHDF. once things settle down, i really do not know what either of them will make of that. i haven't beaten the game so i'm not even sure where to start 😂 BUT i think! they have things to work through. afterward. ASAP. GG to them. time to go hiking in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage: Magma Cone world.

Catarina Loss: Headcanons

On Children

           Catarina imagines that when her mother saw her for the first time, she wept. How could a woman of color, a slave who had only borne a child after being manipulated and raped by a hellish monster, see her blue-skinned, white-haired daughter and do anything else? Salma never complained, though, at least not where Catarina could hear. Her earliest memory is her mother’s dark eyes, overflowing with love, peering down at her. She isn’t sure that she remembers Salma’s face, or if the glamour she’d adopted in honor of her mother has superimposed itself over the real memory, but those eyes are always staring out of her own, when the warlock allows herself to think of it.

          As a little girl, Catarina never thought to question Salma’s devotion to her. She was mama, the only person Catarina could see without wearing long, heavy clothing that covered her strange skin and hair, and be honest around. Even when Salma was gone, Catarina carried that love with her, and wanted nothing more than to pass that love on to a child of her own some day. That is what she had seen, growing up. People falling in love, having children– she had never been a romantic, but what Catarina wanted more than a man was a child. It had broken her heart, when Ragnor finally told her that warlocks could not reproduce, but like many things, Catarina had simply shoved the hurt away and continued on with life. There were plenty of people in need of healing, and she had Magnus and Ragnor and other friends; they were her family. She didn’t need anything else.

          She got that chance, eventually, with the child the Shadowhunters call the Lost Herondale. She snuck him from under their noses while his mother was executed, and raised him in the New World. From the moment his tired, infant blue eyes met hers, Catarina could understand how her own mother had been willing to keep her, despite all of the difficulties. Catarina named the boy Aurelio, golden, in her mother tongue, after the Herondale lineage. And then, Catarina disappeared with him for twenty years, raising him from child to man to happily married mundane father – and when he began to ask questions about why she never seemed to age, Catarina staged her own death, and disappeared back to Britain, back to Ragnor and Magnus, to begin mending her heart.

           Aurelio was meant to be the only child she raised, after that. Catarina drowned the emotional fall out in her work, and took another nursing job at a local hospital. Ragnor managed to convince her, once in a while, to go camping with him as a vacation – and eventually, the pain dulled to something manageable. Until Aurelio died, and she was notified through one of her remaining contacts in the newly named United States of America. Catarina allowed herself a week of wallowing in grief, then returned to work, as determined and dedicated as ever. This, she vowed to herself, was the last time she would do something like this. While she wouldn’t change a thing about her too-short lifetime with Aurelio, the fall out was too hard to bear.

            Decades later, Ragnor is gone, and Catarina is working more than she ever has – well, perhaps not more, but there are no month-long vacations every summer, now. And she sees Magnus less and less. Some of that might be the fault of the Shadowhunter he’s seeing now, and the drama that comes with being dragged into the affairs of the Clave, but Catarina knows she’s to blame, too. It’s hard to be around Magnus without thinking of Ragnor, and Catarina is nothing if not a master at compartmentalization.

            Then, one day, in the midst of Valentine’s second attempt to rise to power, Catarina opens her apartment door to find Magnus standing there with a little girl. “It’s just for a few days,” he says, his glamoured eyes meeting hers in desperation. “I don’t have time to explain, but I have to go.” And what could Catarina say but yet? The little girl, Madzie, Magnus explained in a flurry, was one of Iris Rouse’s experiments. She had been captured and used by Valentine, and Magnus and Alec were invested, and wanted her safe.

           It took two days of caring for Madzie for Catarina to give in. The little girl was powerful and bright, if a little quiet, and desperately needed someone to love her. And, unknowingly, Catarina had needed the same. The achey, lonely feeling that sometimes bothered her when she returned to her apartment alone after a difficult shift was gone, Madzie’s adorable smile filling that void. Catarina’s shifts are shorter, now, and she cooks instead of ordering take out on a regular basis, or just main-lining coffee. Madzie has changed her life for the better, and Catarina is immensely grateful for it. She has a family again, and Catarina won’t let go of it.

Before Ragnor died, Catarina’s main self-care was going hiking with him with no technology. Afterward, she started going to drink with Magnus, or taking long bubble baths with a trashy romance novel and a bottle of wine.

Catarina realized that she had a gift for healing at a very young age, and she’s always wanted to care for other. At the time, she thought she would be a midwife.

Catarina loves the snow. She grew up in a hot climate and had never seen snow until she left Portugal, and even now, it’s still a marvel to her.

Warlock Squad Headcanons

The squad (especially Catarina and Ragnor) sometimes prank Belial and Asmodeus just to piss them off cause they know how much they have hurt Tessa and Magnus. Ragnor once kept spamming Edom with those extra takeaway flyers no one asked - FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH.

One of the proud traditions of the squad is getting together to watch remake ever made. They always watch every remake together or they will have to face Tessa’s wrath. Their favorite remake is Pride and Prejudice (2005). Tessa can practically quote the entire movie. Their unfavourite remake is Lion King (2019). Ragnor threatened to sue Disney for emotional trauma. (I HAVE SEEN RAUM DEMONS THAT LOOK BETTER THAN THOSE HORRID ANIMATIONS, MAGNUS!!!)

Every member of the warlock squad secretly places charms and protection spells on the children of the squad members. It started with James and is still going on - with Mina being bombarded with protection spells to safeguard an entire army.

After Will’s passing, the warlock squad gathered to help Tessa move on. It was their idea that she started to practice magic again and join the spiral labyrinth.

When Tessa and Catarina found out that Ragnor faked his death, they were so pissed, they refused to acknowledge that he was still alive. (I miss Ragnor so much. He was a fine man..CATARINA, QUIT TELLING PEOPLE I’M STILL DEAD!!! Sometimes I still hear his voice.)

Annual vacations are definitely a thing. They go to a different spot every year to spend an entire week enjoying each other’s company. Each member gets to pick a location once in every four years...Although they always eventually end up going to where Magnus wanted.

The gang is infamous for their gossip sessions. But they have promised to not tell anyone about it. But of course...Tessa always shares the tea with Jem. Ragnor literally texts Raphael as they are gossiping. Magnus most probably records the conversation and Catarina has definitely live tweeted it at least once.

They definitely have a group text. Catarina is the friend who always sends good morning messages and checks in on everyone. Tessa spams the chat with links to all sorts of stuff. Magnus only replies in emojis that no Ione is able to decipher and Ragnor of course puts them all on seen.

For one Halloween, they all dressed up famous fictional warlocks. Ragnor as Gandalf, Tessa as Harry Potter, Catarina as Merlin and Magnus as the Goblin King.

The squad has an emergency care package for what they call the “immortality crisis”. Even though they all know and have accepted their immortality, sometimes they have tough days. So, if anyone is having an immortality crisis, the rest of the squad will immediately rush to them with the care package. This includes lots of alcohol drinking games which usually include rating shadowhunters in various categories. (Alright, now let’s rate from best to worst abs...lol trick question Catarina, they all have amazing abs! *drunk cheering and whistling*)

So I was reading @themimsyborogove’s most excellent fic and this chapter made me come up with the absolute best AU idea in the history of ever. And after ranting about it to @thomas-gaypanic-lightwood I am sharing it with you!

So Cat didn’t really know much about the first heir thing until after she was told, right? She just knew that she and Roland argued because she didn’t want him to keep using magic (did I get that right, I think that’s what I read). But she knows that she lost contact with him because of it.

So what if, when Kit is really little, maybe a bit after Rosemary left, Cat ran into him. And she recognized her son and grandson in him. And then she looked into things and realized how bad of a parent Rook was, and kind of just took Kit. Because she *is* his great something grandma.

And she just raises him with some help from Ragnor, of course, and Magnus, and maybe even Tessa. But Kit grows up with Cat and Ragnor for parents essentially.

And maybe Ragnor wouldn’t die because he would be better hidden, since he would probably be hiding Kit from what was going on.

Oooooh. And maybe Cat and Ragnor would actually get together sooner too

And there’s no way that they wouldn’t figure out that Kit has some kind of magic and as old as Ragnor is he could probably pin it down to fae easily. And like, we know that Ragnor likes places that are off the beaten path and usually surrounded by nature, so Kit getting hungry and accidentally making a fruit/vegetable plant grow something edible? While Ragnor and Cat are just staring?

Or maybe Cat went inside to get something and comes back out to see Kit gnawing on a newly grown plant and Ragnor staring with a raised eyebrow.

And they would definitely up his magic training. Or maybe that’s what tipped them off that he was part-fae?

Big Brother Alec Lightwood Headcanons

Technically, Alec only has three siblings: Jace, Izzy, and Max; but that doesn’t stop Alec from acting like everyone’s big brother. 

When Simon told Alec about Maia’s claustrophobia, Alec made sure every cabinet meeting was held in a wide open room and Maia’s chair was always the closest to the exit. 

Alec started attending mass with Raphael. They never talked much, but Alec knew that Raphael appreciated the company and Alec found the organ to be relaxing. The best days were when Magnus agreed to join them. 

Max’s first rune (besides the Angelic Power rune) was the deflect rune and he had Alec draw it on the right side of his neck. (Basically a reflection of Alec’s) 

Alec was standing right behind Aline with a comforting hand on her shoulder when she came out to her mother. Aline asked him to be there, and there was no place he would rather be in that moment. It was clear from the glare that he was shooting at Jia, that counsel or not, if she screwed this up he would intervene and it would not be pretty. 

Jace hates thunder storms. Hates them. As he has gotten older he has been able to handle them more and more, but on stormy nights when he is emotionally exhausted and/or anxious he will only calm down for Alec. It typically ends with Alec making his mom’s famous hot chocolate and the two of them cuddling on a couch by a warm fire. 

One night Izzy told Alec about just how devastated Simon was after encantoing his mom, and that he has been even more sad recently because his mom’s birthday was coming up. On that night Alec showed up to Simon’s apartment with Phase One of the MCU and some blood soaked fish tacos for the vampire. 

Alec has now seen every Marvel movie. When a new one comes out Alec will go see it with Magnus, Clary, Simon, and sometimes Maia will even join. When Maia does join she will aid Alec in his quest to talk shit on Hawkeye.

One day Andrew came into Alec’s office and sat there in silence for 40 minutes. Finally Alec asked if this visit was about Lorenzo. Underhill yelled “How did you know?!?!?”, which caused Alec to laugh at his friend for 10 more minutes and tease him about how obvious the two of them were. Finally, Alec took pity on Underhill and he gave his friend some tips for dating a warlock. 

Alec would some times meet Catarina up for lunch, mostly so they can exchange embarrassing stories about Magnus. During one lunch a doctor came over and was clearly flirting with Cat who was obviously not interested but the guy wouldn’t take a hint. After he and Cat said goodbye, Alec went and found the doctor and made it very clear that his advances were unwelcome and they were to stop immediately. Or else. 

One night Izzy confessed to Alec that she always wanted to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow, but she never did because she didn’t want to steal something that Alec was really good at. The next day Alec had a bow specially made for his little sister and he put time aside in his busy schedule just for her that way he could teach her how to shoot. To this day there is a frame in his office that has Izzy’s first bullseye.

What music do they play? Fun pop-rock songs are their favorite to cover. Catarina is their main singer, so here are Come On Eileen and Jessie’s Girl sung by ladies because… nICE. They all try their hand a writing original stuff tho, these are usually love songs because Magnus, Catarina, and Raphael are all very sappy and romantic. Expect for Ragnor’s, his are kinda along the line of They Might Be Giants which are a ton of fun to perform.

Catarina is 100% into ladies, she and Dot have an on and off thing that drives Catarina’s roommates crazy because Dot is a mutual friend to Magnus and Ragnor (and Raphael once he gets to know her). So sometimes Dot is just hanging out in their kitchen in the morning as Cat makes breakfast and other times Catarina will run over to them on campus and be like HIDE ME FROM DOT!!! Dot comes to most of their shows and is their go-to if they forget something and need someone to run back and get it. This can be awkward tho if Catarina is singing one of her love songs. 

HOW DOES MALEC WORK OKAY Magnus comes home ranting about this new grad student who thinks he can just WALK IN and take the BEST LECTURE HALL. Magnus has not met this student yet, but he has a full rant in mind when he does. Ragnor, Catarina, and Raphael listen to all this patiently (they all are in different departments so this grad student hasn’t touched any of their good lecture halls so no harm no foul). Quick aside for what they are studying: Magnus = History and Biology double PhD (“how are you still alive” “I don’t know, my blood is just caffeine at this point”), Catarina, med school (surgeon, also caffeine blood), Ragnor = law degree (you guessed it, caffeine blood), and Raphael = psychology (trying to get them all to eat real food and go to therapy because god damn it, he doesn’t have time or his degree yet)

BACK TO MALEC so Magnus is introduced to this new student by his advisor, because oh great they share an advisor and said advisor wants Magnus to show THE LECTURE HALL THIEF around. Then Magnus is face to face with this gorgeous towering guy with a kinda goofy lopsided smile, shaking hands with this guy (and those hands are BIG and WARM and STRONG and Magnus should stop thinking about them), and now knows lecture hall thief is named Alexander “call me Alec” Lightwood. 

Magnus shows Alec around the history department and the library, and then asks if maybe he would like to get drinks sometime? And Alec has just been following this guy around, trying not to stare but DEFINITELY staring when Magnus can’t see him. Because who is this gorgeous smart guy who was just dropped into Alec’s life? Alec says “I’m free now?” to drinks and then wants to fall into the ground because TOO FAST COMING ON TOO STRONG but Magnus just smiles and says “Me too” and suddenly drinks becomes a dinner date and then plans to see each other for coffee the next morning.

Magnus does all of this without even dropping the “I’m in a band” but be sure that Raphael and Ragnor never let him forget that he is dating the Lecture Hall Thief. Ragnor even writes a silly song about it which Magnus will never let them play in public (Alec gets to hear it though, and that’s how he realizes Magnus’ friends have accepted him. Mutual teasing is all part of their little group’s dynamic).

okay so by the time maia gets to have dinner with all of raphael’s family, she’s already gotten to meet them all individually, and she’s already pretty close with them all. obviously she always had a good relationship with magnus, but getting to know magnus as more than a political leader and a customer is very different and nice. but he’s never been anything if not welcoming with her, and even his “shovel talk” was more of a “i’m glad raphael has found so much happiness with you... i hope it stays like this” because he’s nice

maia has already babysat madzie a few times, and madzie adores her and having another, also young, black woman in her life has been doing her good (not that catarina is not an amazing role model! but there’s never enough and it’s nice to know other young people and people who aren’t your immediate family you know, especially since madzie spent quite a lot of her life around a white “family”), which means that catarina also likes her. also, catarina and maia might have different areas of interest, but they can nerd out for hours about biology and maia is genuinely super interested in catarina’s work, so, more points. and ragnor loves how fierce she is. he thinks it does raphael good, even if he’s already kind of a stubborn head

so maia’s first dinner with the immortal squad goes very smoothly and is not really a nerve wracking situation. she’s welcomed like a friend, she gets lots of hugs and kisses on the cheek (okay ragnor is not big on that but he gives her a warm smile and a nod and she does it back and it works). it feels like she’s always been a part of the immortal squad. she and raphael play with madzie afterwards and she, magnus and catarina have super intense science-y conversations that have raphael just melting because she’s so smart and she’s getting along with them so well. ragnor gifts her a book. it feels perfect for them all and from then on maia is pretty much always invited

she also convinces them all to watch, like, lord of the rings and other terribly nerdy movies that these losers have obviously never seen, which ragnor describes as “a fascinating experience” so it also becomes something of a tradition that she brings some Young N Cool thing for the grandpas to experience, and it’s nice
