Best Friends with Gaara Relationship Headcanons
Tumblr media
Tags/Warnings: No Reader Pronouns
𓆃 The epitome of an adult friendship; you won't see each other or talk for months, but when your schedules magically align weeks later, you pick up exactly where you left off like the time you hadn't seen each other was nothing.
𓆃 Despite not being able to spend regular amounts of time together, your friendship with Gaara is the most stable, closest, and valued friendship you probably have.
𓆃 After all, Gaara's leading a country, and with the bustle of shinobi society, you have your hands full with your profession. Especially if you're pursuing an ambitious shinobi career, you're going to be away traveling for long periods of time.
𓆃 And if you're in the ANBU, you can expect to not see your loved ones for extremely long periods of time.
𓆃 Perhaps if you're a citizen of the Sand, you might see each other more often, but your relationship wouldn't deviate much compared to any other distance.
𓆃 But the time between spending time together isn't what defines your relationship. While the distance appears rather severe on paper, the times you are together, it makes you forget about all the time you were apart.
𓆃 Perhaps it's a lunch or a dinner out, but it lasts for hours just catching up on all the crazy things you've been waiting to tell each other.
𓆃 And when you get older, perhaps Gaara will pull out a physical list of things he's written to tell you along with a new pair of reading glasses.
𓆃 You quite literally never run out of things to talk about, cutting loose with each other just reacting to the various outlandish things you've endured during your time apart.
𓆃 Gaara typically sits very silently when you're talking, expressing his interest through the hand he holds up to his lips.
𓆃 He doesn't make many gestures of acknowledgment outside of his intent forward staring, but know that he's listening very intently.
𓆃 And while he's not a man to have extreme reactions like gasps or surprised outbursts, he will add his own dry commentary that will have you melting with laughter.
𓆃 The rare times he offers a closed-lipped smile and a chuckle are almost always with you.
𓆃 He may cross his arms over his chest, but if in doubt, you can tell he's laughing by the shaking and bobbing of his shoulders.
𓆃 It's quite the sight, and sometimes his employees will try to subtly gather around your meeting spot to catch a glimpse of the ever-serious Kazekage smiling and laughing at jokes.
𓆃 But just because you don't see each other often doesn't mean you're not there for each other.
𓆃 Gaara can and will exhaust all the resources he's able to in order to help you out. He doesn't like to make a show of it and will deny it when he can, but he's a ride or die friend.
𓆃 He's also willing to roll along with more impulsive plans than he lets on. Whether it's spontaneous dinners or a crazy plan you've been dedicated to since lunch, Gaara isn't above pushing back some of his affairs to indulge you.
𓆃 Granted that the things that need tending to aren't urgent.
𓆃 Sometimes you'll write letters, but those are few and far between. But the moment you mention you need assistance, Gaara is more than willing to pull strings to help you where he can.
𓆃 It's always just the right amount of help. He can't solve your problems for you, but he can offer you precisely what you need most times.
𓆃 Prepare to fight over the bill at restaurants and think of something really thoughtful for special holidays because you're constantly making thoughtful gestures to each other.
𓆃 Gaara is comically cryptic about gifts.
𓆃 "Do you have sufficient area in your home?" he might write to you one day, "I'm sending you a gift that needs... sufficient area. I can't tell you how much, or it'll ruin the surprise."
𓆃 He'll also try to leverage his position as Kazekage if you won't let him grab the bill or accept a meaningful act of service— which is all in good fun of course.
𓆃 You'll be smacking his hand away because he's offering to put money down on the table, and he'll look you in the eye with a very serious expression, "You're daring to defy the Kazekage?"
𓆃 It's clear that you and Gaara care about each other very much, so much that your friendship can never be broken by things as silly as "time and distance."
𓆃 You will always be there for each other and remain great and loyal friends for a lifetime.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

Someone said Hokage Tora and now I'm thinking about what would need to happen to make that a reality.
Ok so we're gonna shuffle the Hokage's and their timelines around.
(Also note: at this point, Tora very sympathetic to the Uchiha bc of his relationships w Shisui Itachi and Sasuke)
So Sarutobi dies and people are going "oh noooo someone go and get Tsunade back"
And Tora gets PISSED.
They want another Senju to have the hat?? Are you fucking kidding him??? 2 in a row was bad enough but 3 sets a standard. Choose literally anyone else! Anyone!! Fucking Kakashi would make a better Hokage!!!
And then he stops.
Hmmm. Kakashi as Hokage.
That... wouldn't be too bad, actually?
Long story short: Tora starts to campaign for Kakashi as Hokage.
Kakashi does not appreciate this. Stop immediatley.
Tora is on the civilian council at this point (at the terrifyingly young age of like 17) and lowkey has them under his thumb. So he's able to get them all aboard, meaning Kakashi is officially civilian approved.
The Uchiha are into it to, with him lowkey being the closest they've been able to get to the seat since fucking Madara. He has one of their eyes, he's lead/taught both of the clan head kids, and hes visibly, publicly close to multiple Uchiha/Uchiha sympathizers (Itachi, Shisui, Tora)
He's the yodaime's student which gives him major points in the politics department, + he actually knows what it is like to be in the life of a Hokage, he has seen and been involved in that life firsthand
Hes also on good, personal terms with a few clan heads and solidly neutral terms w the other clans
His clan is innofensivley small (read: fucking wiped out) so there's no concern with biases of a guy coming from a specific clan, working w a bias for that clan
Perfect candidate!!
(Something something Kakashi quietly touching his eyelid and mumbling to Obito that he guesses he'll be able to show him even more of his dream than even he'd expected)
Danzo tries to intimidate him into not accepting it and while Kakashi does agree that he would be one of the worst options, the conversation kinda... leaves him a little less sure he'd really be the worst option.
Anyways, Kakashi as the godaime hokage!!
He hates it.
Tora Shisui and Itchi have to hunt him down the day of his ascension and fuckin wrestle him on stage (he's gonna go home and scream into his pillow later)
How would Naruto canon change with Kakashi as the Hokage so early?? Until this point, the au has mostly been sticking to the script (minus the Uchiha massacre) but this is a HUGE status quo change for a character decently central in the cast list, and it's a change that'd impact just about everything going forward! Don't ask me how exactly because I know very very little about the actual specifics and events of canon but holy shit it'd sure change the course of history, huh? If you wanna get really down to the nitty gritty technicalities, we could take serious liberties and kill off and or save several characters with the simple explanation of "different Hokage, different people assigned to different missions"
Anyways:
Team Ro gets to be his personal guards,, they need a replacement for the team since Kakashi left, maybe we can throw in someone else to join them and add some more chemistry in there
I don't think it'd be anyone on team 7 (I don't live in a world where I can see Kakashi tossing specifically THEM in ANBU that young, no matter how more powerful or better taught than cannon, sorry) also conflicting interests w THREE uchiha on a team or the Haruno siblings. Also, Naruto is Naruto, so. *political noises*
Actually the slot is a very valuable one since they're basically Kakashi's special little guys (anbu eddition) so it's really hard to think of a character that'd even conceivably be put on it. (Part of me wants to add Neji for literally no reason other than I suddenly want him in the AU but that'd bring a whole mountain of implications with him if Kakashi chose HIM specifically to join his personal guard + he's suddenly in ANBU, what??)
Wait would Kakashi even choose the replacement personally.
Wait wait ok. Record scratch. Rewind. Let's try this again.
So. With Kakashi's promotion, Tora gets to he team leader. One of the first things he's told is to find a new replacement for the team
"Shouldn't you do that yourself?" Says Tora
"You've got me to take the hat I refuse to move so much as a single fucking finger more at your request." Says Kakashi, who then delights in bodily removing Tora from the room via the window.
I don't know Neji's actual age but for the sake of this fic he's suddenly Tora's age or only a year younger (Tora is like 17 at this point)
Him and Neji do not get along!! At all!!!! Actually it was kind of hate on sight.
Uhh insert montage where they become grudgingly almost friends but still mostly frenemies
Neji is very talented and Tora is frustrated by how he seems to be being "held back" in some way. Like, he doesn't like the guy! But damn if he doesn't know how it feels to have the system itself fighting you, no matter how good you prove you are and how hard you work.
Anyways, Tora finding out Neji was skipped over and denied for different promotions or smthn bc hyuuga second class or whatever.
And him going "hmmmmmmmmm...."
He hands Kakashi a form with Neji's name on it and Kakashi signs without even looking.
When he scowls and asks if he's even going to look, Kakashi just gives him a dry look.
"Like I dont know whoever you've picked won't be for whatever plot you're cooking up next. Just don't set anything on fire where I can see it and I don't care."
A very, very confused Neji is suddenly told he's not only going to join ANBU but also the Hokage's private guard.
Hey Tora !! What the fuck !!!
They have one of those "You don't even like me??" "I don't have to like you to want to see how far you can go." moments
Queue Neji angrily revealing that it doesn't matter "how far he can go" or how many opportunities are afforded to him bc his limits are fuckin branded on him, and shows Tora his seal mark
Hey Neji !! What the fuck !!!
Hyuuga reformation arc,,,
Ok so not sympathetic Hiashi Hyuuga but like,, rational (deeply fucking flawed) person Hiashi who is able to leverage the "Neji has been ordered to work directly the Hokage" @ the Hyuuga clan elders to at least slightly loosen the seal on him.
TONNS of political drama in the Hyuuga house w Neji being chosen for such a huge position, but w the complications of "they can't fucking voice it outloud" bc ANBU identities are supposed to be super top secret, so it's kept to the really high ranks only
(There's an AU of an AU out there where instead of stopping the Uchiha coup, Tora went "ok but are they wrong tho", decided to help instead, and got the Hyuuga lower cast to join them)
(Look he wants to reform the government, right? Ok so why SHOULDNT he support an attempt to rip it up by the roots?? The Uchiha want equality but Tora wants reformation. They do not know what they just let into their homes.)
What the fuck did I come here to talk about again?
Right, sorry, Hokage Tora
Uhhhh pivoting again here we go ->
So Kakashi is Hokage!!! And he !! Wants !! Out !!!
Tora is a very very clear contender for "the next Hokage", even early on in Kakashi's career. He's basically the guy who MADE Kakashi Hokage (both arranging it and forcing him to accept) and most important people know it.
I'm ngl I kind of don't know how exactly we'd get to hokage Tora.
Maybe Kakashi is temporarily taken out of commission and he's just the obvious replacement. Maybe we do a proper Hokage switch and promote him when Kakashi got the job in the original. Dunno! But Tora for Rokudaime all the way !!
If not Tora I think Rokudaime Neji could be suitably dramatic and fun. Also has similar themes of "rising from the lower ranks against the odds" and just in general tons of interesting implications both politically and like,, character interaction wise.
Everyone expects Tora for the next hokage but Tora decides he likes being the powerful guy in the shadows to a Hokage who knows both how to listen to him and how to lead with a strength and surety he can trust. And decides Neji is apparently that guy who has the leadership and wisdom he can trust.
Callback to the earlier moment where Neiji, voice cracking, goes "you don't even like me."
And Tora gives him a smirk and goes "I don't have to like you to want to see see how far you can go."
Mmmm actually I think I like that ending best, it has the most weight to me. Like, yeah Tora as Rokudaime is cool and a kind of ironic "full circle" moment, but Neji as Rokudaime has that gut punch energy that will leave your skin buzzing and your eyes tearing up with written right
Have to get going but I might try to draw that scene tommorow if I find the energy in me after work (doubtful tbh)
I love a good call back through dialogue in different character defining moments that leave you pointing at the screen shrieking "HE SAID THE THING!!"

11. tentative hand holding
Kakashi pairing 😊
The storm that halted your progress continues to rage outside the small shelter you and Kakashi have constructed. You should be home by now, wrapped in blankets after a hot shower, maybe a cup of tea balanced on your knees.
Instead, you're crouched beneath an overhang dodging ice pellets and the tattered remnants of tree branches.
"Lovely weather we're having," Kakashi says, voice barely discernible over the howling wind.
You snort.
Everything had gone perfectly during your mission, at least. No snags or hiccups. Hell, before the squall rolled in, the two of you were on pace to return to Konoha a full half-day before you were scheduled.
"Gotta love this time of year," you say, "every season smashed together in a 24-hour period."
Kakashi chuckles in agreement. "Summer this morning, winter by the time you go to sleep."
You sigh, leaning your head back against the cool stone. "At least it's warm enough our toes aren't in any danger."
Kakashi agrees, "Still, it would be better if we hadn't gotten drenched before we found this spot."
He's not wrong. You are soaked to your skin beneath your ANBU uniform, the pants sticking uncomfortably to your thighs, the bend of your knee. You shake your head, droplets loosing wildly from the strands of your hair.
"You're worse than my ninken," Kakashi chides.
"Shut up."
He does, though you think his amused smile lingers beneath his mask.
The space you and Kakashi have claimed for yourselves is cramped, a cut out set into the side of a stone ridge. You and Kakashi dragged as many large tree branches as you could feasibly gather without being out in the rain for too long to stack against the opening before you finally conceded to the weather.
You sit, shoulder-to-shoulder, thigh-to-thigh, watching the violent mixture of hail and rain beyond the meagerly fortified entrance.
You hope it isn't too obvious how his proximity both exhilirates and frightens you. How long you've harbored a crush for the Copy Ninja you aren't entirely sure, but you know enough about him to think he's not very interested.
Of all his admirers, you certainly aren't the most impressive or good-looking.
Still, it's nice to let your imagination wander for a moment as the two of you watch the storm, to consider what it might be like if you got to sit with him like this all the time, not only when necessary for your safety.
"I'm not keeping you from any important plans am I?" he asks.
You scrunch your face up as you turn to look at him, forgetting for a moment you both removed your masks once you settled into your makeshift camp.
"I don't think you're the one keeping me from anything," you say, gesturing with one hand at the raucous display of nature happening only feet away.
He shakes his head, "Be that as it may, I'm sorry if you were looking forward to better company than me tonight."
There's something about the tone of his voice that tugs at you a little. Not sad, exactly, but almost.
"Trust me, there are very few people I'd be as happy to spend my time with." The way his single eye widens a fraction when you say it makes you think you've revealed too much of your feelings. Hastily, you clear your throat and add, "You're a good commander, one of my favorite teammates. I'm glad we were assigned to this mission together."
You don't dare look at him, afraid he'll be able to read the true meaning of your words in your gaze. You've never been as good at concealing your emotions as he is, so you stare resolutely ahead, trying to count the raindrops to keep yourself occupied.
The two of you sit in silence for a while, the storm continuing to batter the branches you laid at the entrance. The hail gets larger, then smaller again. It disappears and then begins anew.
Kakashi groans. "I thought it was finally letting up," he says.
"Apparently we used all our luck up on that mission."
Kakashi laughs, the sound reverberating off the stone behind you as loud as the thunder cracking across the sky outside. The sound sends a shiver down your spine and he must mistake the motion for you being cold because Kakashi pulls his arm wide and says, "Come here. We'll stay warmer this way."
You hesitate. Because it's plenty warm enough already. It isn't even worth building a fire--the rain would surely snuff it out in a few short minutes, anyway. But you doubt you'll ever get this opportunity again, so you huddle closer to Kakashi under the guise of necessity and his arm wraps comfortably around your shoulders.
You mean to say, "thank you," but you're not sure the words ever make it out of your mouth.
The sound of happily chirping birds serves as an alarm clock the next morning, your eyes flutter open to the sight of golden sunlight streaming in between the branches. It takes a moment for you to recognize the pillow beneath your head is actually a human shoulder--Kakashi's shoulder--and the warmth you feel at your back is his arm.
"Good," he says, "I didn't want to wake you, but we should really get going."
The realization that you have spent the night sleeping in Kakashi Hatake's arms jolts you to alertness.
"Sorry!" you say, trying to work yourself out of his grasp only to meet resistance. "You could have woken me up," you say, turning to look at him, extremely conscious of the weight of his arm still looped over your shoulder.
His voice is much softer than you've ever heard it when he tells you, "You don't have to apologize. It was actually very nice."
The way he smiles at you makes you feel like an Aburame--body buzzing with a hive of anxious flying insects.
He lets you go easily the next time you pull away, and the two of you toss aside the branches you used as a shield the night before so you can continue the rest of your journey back to Konoha. You expect Kakashi to leap up into the trees, to set a quick pace to make up some of the lost time.
Instead, though, he opts to walk slowly through the forest, like he's trying to savor the moment.
You think of the way he looked at you when you woke up, how easily he offered his body heat and closeness. Maybe it's the scent of the rain or the warmth of the sun on your shoulders, or the lingering giddy feeling of his skin against your cheek, but something bold and reckless flares in your chest.
"Kakashi?" you ask, waiting for him to turn and look at you before you continue, "When we get back, would you... would you like to maybe have dinner with me?"
You wish he hadn't put his ANBU mask back on so you could better read his expression. But then he nods, says, "That sounds nice, I'd love to," and your mouth breaks into such a giddy, love-sick grin beneath your own mask you're suddenly very grateful for them.
As you continue your journey home, Kakashi maintains the same languid, unhurried pace. You watch his hands swing slowly as he walks, half wondering why they aren't forcefully shoved into his pockets as they usually are.
With that same buzzy insect feeling in your stomach, you slowly reach out a gloved hand and brush your fingers against his knuckles. You let your hand linger there for a moment, testing his response, prepared to pull away at the slightest hint of disinterest.
Instead, you feel Kakashi's fingers press against yours and then slot between them. You curl your hand, caging his, and feel the soft brush of his thumb as it caresses yours.
Yes, you're definitely grateful for the ANBU mask now because there's no way you would be able to explain away the goofy smile you're wearing if anyone saw it.

God Loves Ugly: Chapter 2
Rating: Mature
Category: Male/Male
Fandom: Naruto
Relationship: Uchiha Itachi/Uchiha Sasuke
Warnings: Depictions of Violence
________________
When Itachi was called in as backup for a hostile situation in the shopping district, the last thing he thought he would come upon was Sasuke.
His little brother, who was supposed to be out east training with their cousin, was currently in the streets of Konoha taking down ANBU like he was swatting at flies.
He couldn't help but stare as his little brother took down two ANBU, brutally maiming one, and knocking the other unconscious. He clashed blades with another before Itachi shook himself from his daze.
"SASUKE!" he screamed. Before reaching up to remove his mask.
He watched Sasuke shift slightly to look at him and freeze.
Itachi stared into shocked mismatched eyes, one the color of blood and the other of lilacs, and his confusion only grew.
They stared at each other for what felt like hours, seconds, so much time yet so little. Before the Hokage appeared behind his brother and attempted to knock him out.
Sasuke didn't go down so easily and quickly retaliated, causing Lord Forth to Shift and put his brother into the earth.
He quickly ran forward to check on Sasuke, though was stopped short just as he reached the edge of the small crater his brother was now lying in. Panting, obviously struggling to remain conscious.
He turned to Minato to question what was going on and was met with a look of confusion and worry that he probably mirrored.
"I was informed of a suspicious shinobi who appeared in the shopping district." He told him. "I'm just as confused about this as you are, Itachi."
None of this made sense, it didn't seem real. Itachi watched as Minato turned and ordered a few nearby ANBU to detain Sasuke and hold him under high security, as they sealed his brother's chakra and restrained him. Before picking him up, and disappearing.
"I should inform my father." He hears himself say.
"Yes." Lord Forth agrees. "I would like both of you to meet me in my office. It seems we have a lot to discuss."
Itachi nods his agreement and sets off toward home. He's unsure of what exactly he's going to say to father, but he'll think of something.
He's still trying to wrap his head around what just happened. It's been 3 years since he's last seen his little brother, so much has changed.
Sasuke had grown, no longer was he a pudgy-faced teenager, moody and sulking. He had grown taller, as tall as him maybe or taller. Broader, though not as broad as most, he still held an epicene air to him that belied the strength beneath. His face had sharpened, smoothed out, and held a fierce coldness to it that Itachi didn't understand.
And those eyes.
He had never seen eyes like that before, had only read about them.
He finds his way home and stops just outside the door. He can smell his mother's cooking coming from the other side and immediately feels guilty that he and his father won't be able to stay to enjoy it. He sighs and slides the door open.
"I'm home!" he calls, as he removes his shoes.
"Itachi! Welcome home, you’re back earlier than I was expecting. Dinner won't be ready for at least another hour or so." His mother greets him, coming to the kitchen door to see him. She smiles at him as she drys her hands with a tea towel, and throws it over her shoulder when she's done.
"Ah, sorry Mom. Lord Hokage wishes to speak with Father and me, and has sent me to fetch him." He smiles and rubs the back of his neck. "So we may have to postpone dinner a little longer."
"Oh! No worries, it'll keep till you get back. Is everything alright?" she inquires, giving him a patient smile.
He nods and smiles. "Nothing to worry about." He hopes.
She nods and reaches out to gently touch his cheek, leaning forward to kiss the other before drawing back. She gives him that same patient smile and turns to retreat into the kitchen.
He takes a moment to appreciate his mother's silent support, and her understanding before he too turns and heads further into the house towards his father's study.
He wishes the walk was longer, before he knows it he's standing outside the door. Calling out to ask for admission. Granted quickly, Itachi enters and kneels before his father.
"Itachi. is something the matter? You're home early." His father is straight to the point as always.
"Forgive me for interrupting, father. But Lord Hokage has requested your presence, and has tasked me to find you." Itachi bows as he says this, and as he straightens his father meets his eyes.
"Hmm? What's this all about then?" He asks slowly, arms crossed. Fugaku and Minato had always gotten along well enough, but when hierarchy was involved things tended to get a little tense.
"There was an incident in the shopping district today. He wishes to discuss with you the nature of this incident and what action may be taken." Itachi worded carefully.
He decided discretion was probably for the best. His father would gather that the Uchiha were involved and his presence was needed to nullify the matter. He would wait till they made it to the security of the Hokage's office to disclose exactly what had happened that day.
Fugaku frowns and nods. "Very well." He stands, turns, and heads to a door in the far corner. “I'll meet you out front." He says as he walks through the door, leaving Itachi alone as he closes it behind him.
Itachi stands and turns back the way he came. Through the corridors, till he finds himself standing outside the kitchen door once more. He watches his mother as she occupies herself with dinner. Guilt resurfaces as he watches her work, unsure of how long they'll be gone.
He’s broken from his thoughts as his father steps past him into the kitchen. He calls out to Mikoto and informs her of their departure. She turns and smiles at the both of them, before turning her attention back to her husband. He leans down to kiss her goodbye, and Itachi turns away from them, letting them have their moment. He instead busies himself with his sandals, before standing to wait for his father.
As Fugaku joins him to pull on his shoes, Itachi pulls open the front door and steps out into the waning afternoon sun. His father joins him and pulls the door closed behind them. They walk down the cobblestone path a bit before taking to the roofs, picking up speed as they make their way toward Hokage Tower.
They share no words on their journey, only the sound of their shoes on the tiled roofs accompanies them.
They descend to the streets once again and make their way through the doors of the building, and up the stairs towards the Hokage’s office. As they reach the large wooden door, Fugaku raps his knuckles firmly against the barrier. A faint bid of entrance is given and they make their way into the circular room overlooking the village.
Minato stands at the windows and turns as they enter to welcome them.
“I appreciate you meeting with me on such short notice, Fugaku. Itachi. Please sit, we have some rather pressing matters to discuss.” He offers two chairs pulled forward toward the large desk before him. He sits in the chair behind it and places his elbows upon its surface lacing his fingers in front of him, waiting for them to settle.
“I’m unsure of how much Itachi has informed you of, but I suppose we should cover everything from the beginning,” Minato starts. “Earlier today, we received reports of a suspicious man of obvious Uchiha descent wandering the shopping district. Witnesses say he just fell from the sky.”
Itachi watches his father from his peripherals, trying to gauge his reaction. But the man is stoic beside him, arms crossed as he listens to Minato recount the day's events.
“ANBU were dispatched to analyze the situation and determine the likelihood of a threat. Not long after a call for backup came through. The subject quickly immobilized three ANBU before Itachi’s unit was able to arrive on site. Two more ANBU were incapacitated before Itachi was able to provide enough of a distraction for me to step in and we were able to apprehend the subject.” Minato finishes. He pauses a moment to let the information settle before he continues.
“Fugaku, are you aware of your youngest son’s current whereabouts?” He asks.
Itachi sees his father frown, brows furrowing at the question, and turns his attention to the windows in front of him. The sky is painted brilliant hues of orange and pink, though its beauty is lost on him.
“Sasuke is currently on a training mission with his cousin and has been for the past three years. You permitted him to leave the village yourself, Lord Hokage.” Fugaku states matter of factly, though still frowning.
“Yes.” Minato nods. “Have you received any correspondence from him as of late?”
“He and his mother exchange letters occasionally, though it’s been about two weeks since we’ve received anything. What is all this about?” Fugaku asks, obviously irritated with the runaround.
“It’s Sasuke,” Itachi blurts out. He stares unseeingly out the windows and says, “The shinobi from the shopping district… It’s Sasuke.”
The room goes quiet and after a moment Itachi turns to look at his father. Fugaku holds his gaze for a short moment, searching, before he sighs and turns his attention back to Minato.
“I've already dispatched a team to confirm Sasuke is still present at his post. Until then we have detained this Sasuke to maximum security.” Explains Minato. “Whether this is Sasuke or a disguise, this person is dangerous. And he must be treated as such till we can make sense of this. Once word is received from our mobile team, an interrogation will be conducted to figure out what exactly is going on here. And I’d like for the two of you to sit in.” He finishes.
Itachi watches as his father nods, accepting the task, before turning his gaze back to the window. Only partially listening to the conversation beside him. He waits, lost in his thoughts. Hoping there is some explanation. Some shred of elucidation to make the whole situation better than it seems. He thinks about Sasuke and wishes he could speak with him. Gain some clarity.
But till then he waits.
_____________________
Down they descend through stairwells and grim hallways, deeper into the earth, further from the sun. Led silently by a nameless ANBU, his Dog mask glints dully in the lights as they pass. By doors, by rooms, each containing secrets better left alone. Remnants of them still cling to the walls hidden under the faint smell of disinfectant.
Itachi doesn't recognize their escort, but he follows a few steps behind his father. As if those few steps could prolong the inevitable truths this nameless body leads them toward. Down the hall, around the corner to stop at a large door almost the same drab gray as the walls.
Another ANBU stands guard next to the door, her rabbit mask just as blank as the others. She moves to open the door before stepping aside, letting them enter, and closing the door behind them. Another door is opened in front of them and they are escorted into a large square room. A chair has been placed in the center of the room at the head of an array of glyphs that spread out behind it. To the right behind the chair is a large curved stone table covered in the same glyphs. Itachi knows the three shinobi who stand behind it as part of Konoha’s analysis team.
He and his father move to the left side of the room and are silently greeted by Inoichi, who leans against the wall. Itachi regards the chair and ignores the faint murmurs as Inoichi bestows his father with dour pleasantries. The chair seems frail, just thin metal coated in black paint. It’s not something you would expect to see in a place like this, almost like they pulled it from the storage closet last second. There are little rubber feet at the end of each leg, all torn up from being dragged against the stone. The metal peeking out from underneath is dented and rusting telling of its life in these halls.
He’s pulled from his quiet scrutiny of the chair by the sound of metal scraping against metal. The room goes quiet at the sound of the first door closing before the second opens and Ibiki Morino enters the room followed by another shinobi wearing glasses. Two more ANBU follow shortly after, dragging a body between them. Ibiki and the other move to flank the chair, as the ANBU unceremoniously drop their burden into it and turn to station themselves at the door.
And Itachi can't look away as the figure straightens itself. Sasuke. Though bound as he is there’s no mistaking the mess of dark hair and pale skin.
Ibiki sighs after a moment and shifts forward.
“Who are you?” he asks. Though he receives no answer.
He waits another moment before he repeats his question a bit more firmly.
"I'll ask you again. Who are you." Once again Sasuke says nothing, just sits there, still, except for the slight rise and fall of his breaths. They wait longer this time, hoping for an easy out. For a scrap of information that might help them understand. Time slowly ticks by and just when they think they’ll get nothing from him.
“Sasuke Uchiha” He answers.
His voice slips out and slides down Itachi’s spine. He suppresses a shudder and holds on to those two words. A weary confusion slowly grows in his chest as he knows, without doubt, that this is his younger brother.
"Sasuke Uchiha is currently out on a mission, and his presence there has been confirmed." His father speaks out next to him. Bringing voice to what they already knew. The Hokage’s team had confirmed Sasuke was still in Tanzaku Town where he should be.
Itachi glances at his father from the corner of his eye to find him tense, arms crossed with a hard look on his face. He returns his gaze forward in time to watch Ibiki lean down close to Sasuke.
"Do you want to try again,” He asks. ”Or are we going to have to take the answers from you?"
This time Sasuke’s answer is immediate.
"Whether I repeat myself or you rip the answer out of my head, nothing changes."
Itachi takes a slow deep breath as Ibiki replies, “Alright then.” and takes a few steps back. Inoichi moves forward to stand directly in front of Sasuke, as Ibiki and the spectacled shinobi stand at his back. The others ready themselves at the table as Inoichi pushes his fingers gently into Sasuke’s hair, laying his palm flat against his forehead.
Itachi waits, tense, as he watches his brother's body slowly relax into unconsciousness. As they sift through his memories, and pick at every piece of him.

«Yes. Kisame, of the Hoshigaki clan from Kiri.»
ㅤA name that brings a shadow of grief to darken Itachi's eyes all the more than what they already naturally are. A name that comes associated with feelings of loyalty, companionship, strangely compatible interests and opinions... and with a lot of tangled-up things that Itachi doesn't feel prepared to revisit just yet. And so he pushes it all back to a tiny corner of his mind, and moves on. What's another ghost to carry within him, after all.
ㅤ«I didn't see all that much - it wouldn't be wise to linger, as you can imagine. Mostly, I'd see you in passing when you were headed to class or to a mission, later on, and that was already good enough. My intention was only to make sure you were healthy and safe, and lacking for nothing.»
ㅤOther than, you know, an alive and present family. But that's probably another topic that neither brother is prepared to tackle for now, if ever, and so he moves on again. And then it's the use of this specific word, diverted, that has Itachi blinking in surprise, at first, and his eyebrows creasing in thought ever so slightly.
«Sasuke-»
ㅤCareful now. There is a lot to unpack from those brief sentences alone, and by the gods he does not want to sound like he's criticizing his brother. Alas, Itachi was never one to know when to shut up instead of being strongly opinionated, and not even the years in Akatsuki have changed that. Let's try to find a middle ground, then.
ㅤ«Forgive me, I am not sufficiently aware of the village's current state and conditions to be able to offer accurate feedback.»
ㅤSeems like a decent enough start and it's not a lie, either; being stuck in a hospital bed for months and months, first in an actual coma and then undergoing a myriad of tests and exams and treatments and recovery protocols, tends to leave a person out of the loop. Not to mention, it's none of his business to start with. He's not part of the Council, he's not Hokage, he's not ANBU captain anymore, he's not even a shinobi of Konoha as it is. For all intents and purposes, he's a pardoned criminal and even that pardon came from the extraordinary time-of-war circumstances and an ungodly amount of kindness and understanding on Kakashi's and Tsunade's end. It's not the kind of matters he has any right to comment on but, at the same time, there is one particular thing he really wants Sasuke to know.
ㅤ«Either way... please, don't fall into the same mistake that I did myself. Believing that you should do everything on your own, without knowing how to ask for help and let alone accept it.»
ㅤAt least, there's solace in knowing that Naruto is there as well - though, with Kushina's son, the odds are always 50/50 on whether he'll help for good or help to create more chaos. Which Itachi thinks very fondly of, and he wouldn't have chosen a better friend for his little brother. Taking a few further seconds to carefully collect his thoughts, he stands from the table, feeling around the edge of it to gain a better sense of orientation in relation to the counters, and from there walks over to stand by the window instead. And it's not like his eyes can see anything outside, but he's memorized the sight. The other houses nearby, the neighbors that are home at this time of the day and the ones who left to go about their work, the shops that are open. All part of the village that is his most treasured glory and, at the same time, cause of his/their cruelest tragedy.
ㅤ«There is much to consider, when taking action towards peace - no matter how inherently good the intention is. Even the smallest changes have repercussions, and nothing exists in a void. A village is like a living organism, it contains many different parts that come together as a whole and all of them are important in their own way. Which is why, in turn, it's important to have transparency in what is being done. Among the Council members, between the Council and organizations such as the ANBU, between all the people in leadership positions and the people that are being led and who trust them for such. Achieving peace should be a common goal for all, and even that will be only the first step. Then, ideally, should come cooperation with other villages, big and small alike. It truly is no easy feat, nor something that can survive based on localized patch-ups of something that is being done incorrectly.»
ㅤCryptic words, he supposes, and the kind of conversation he's only ever felt comfortable enough to hold with Shisui, back in the day. Maybe even abstract and utopian, and in a way he's curious what Sasuke will make of it all - as much as he hopes his brother will also forgive him the impromptu speech. Turning around again, he returns to the younger one's side and fumbles around for a couple seconds till finding one of Sasuke's hands, that he gently takes with both his own along with the same loving smile from before.
ㅤ«With all this said, I am very proud of you. For caring and for wanting to change things for the better.»
mhm. (he hums, fiddling around with the stuffed animals hes carrying. somehow talking about his pursuits he did in his brother's name, in front of his brother, feels rather embarrassing.) we've diverted the funds from the ANBU into building the orphanage and mental health clinic and funding it. we're...hoping that supporting children and other citizens will decrease the "need" for military operations. go back to having shinobi helping with productivity...and stuff.
(he knows his brother cant see him, but he cant help but feel intimidated by his eyes. he also cant bring himself to treat his brother any differently. so, his eyes are cast towards the floor as he contemplates his brother's words. would he have liked to see him at that point in time? probably not. yet, his heart still aches that there was a time his brother was close to him--but not close enough.)
youre talking about the swordsman? it seems my team member grew up with him.... but anyways, how much did you see? of me? (worrying his lip, he wonders if his brother observed him trying to hurt his teammates or being cowardly in battle.)

[@dreamersscape I started a new thread because our old post was getting so long - link to the previous post is here, just to keep this conversation coherent!]
“raw love and affection” > That’s it exactly.  The perfect descriptor.  Untempered, unqualified, unconditional, unrestrained - Naruto’s love is just like his jutsu, a giant explosion that you can’t dodge or block, and the wielder is shouting and running straight at you the whole time he throws it right at your face XD  You just can’t escape him.  He’s gonna love you no matter who you are or what you’ve done or how fast you run away from him, which poor Sasuke has been figuring out for years (to his everlasting irritation, I’m sure).  Kakashi needs people like that – like Gai, actually, who’s a little bit similar in the sense that he’s determined to be Kakashi’s friend no matter how much Kakashi resists.  And I do love the fact that Naruto and Kakashi will be able to connect about Naruto’s parents now that the secret is out – it wasn’t possible before, and they’ve all been running a million miles an hour since Naruto found out, but eventually, once things calm down, it will such a good thing for both of them to complete that circuit.  That’s the way things are supposed to be – the connections between generations are supposed to be maintained and strengthened by the people left behind, like Iruka says in the early days of the show -
When someone passes away, it’s the end.  His past and future, all the dreams he once had - they disappear along with him.  This is true even if he dies honorably in battle, as so many have...all the ties that bind him to the living are severed.  All but one, the most important of all: people.  Parents, siblings, friends, lovers - the people who were important to him.  And these people, the ones left behind, are joined together in a great circle by their shared memories of him.  A circle of friendship, trust, and sacrifice that grows larger and stronger as time passes.
It’s so good that Naruto and Kakashi are soon going to be in a space where they will be able to re-forge the links that were disrupted by a malicious system that wasn’t serving either of them.
Well, I don’t want to build it up like the show makes A Big Deal out of it
Oh, don’t worry.  I was already expecting it to be the tiniest crumb they could possibly give us.  But even crumbs will make me very happy, for these two! XD
But I think he might have doubts that Yamato would want/choose him as a source of help, given the circumstances of Yamato’s capture and torture?
THAT.  Yamato getting captured taking care of Kakashi’s kids would have been complicated enough to navigate enough on its own, but the fact that the person who orchestrated all of it was Obito makes it a truly labyrinthine mess.  The number of layers of guilt that Kakashi feels - not all of them rational or accurate, obviously, but in his mind they’re real - given all those things, of course he’s uncertain that Yamato would want his help.  Kakashi’s internal blame calculator right now is like -
GUILTY [was weak.  wanted companionship too much.  let you share my burdens.] GUILTY [took advantage of your loyalty] GUILTY [put you in harm’s way] GUILTY [abandoned you to die] GUILTY [created the person who hurt you (by being the reason obito ‘died,’ by failing to save rin)] GUILTY [still love the person who hurt you] GUILTY [still grieving for the person who hurt you]
It’s complicated enough just handling the “i put you in this position and then didn’t even come to save you” level of things, but adding in the “my personal hero/most sacred, precious source of inspiration is the one who did this to you” level makes it practically impossible to manage, especially when Kakashi is actively experiencing (natural and out of his control) feelings of grief for the person who caused Yamato’s entire ordeal.  Kakashi doesn’t condone or excuse anything Obito did - he fully understands that Obito caused unforgivable harm to untold numbers of people (himself included) - but he still feels things for him, and he can’t do anything about that, and even if he’s accepted that fact on a private level, I still don’t think he’s entirely comfortable feeling those things in the context of Yamato’s situation.
It’s like what you said about him “wanting to be very careful not to ‘force’ his company on Yamato” - I think he feels like Yamato has every right to reassess or step back from their relationship, given everything that’s happened.  Kakashi may recognize on some level that he can’t control his own feelings about the Obito situation, but he also doesn’t think Yamato should have to be understanding of that.  Kakashi has never considered himself an appropriate recipient of anyone’s respect or devotion to begin with (“you should find someone more suitable”/“then drop the ‘senpai’”), but with Yamato, especially, I think Kakashi feels now that he’s lost whatever scrap of credibility/worthiness he ever had of being looked up to, and he would be very careful not to put Yamato in a position where Yamato feels pressure to accommodate or defer to Kakashi for any reason, whether it be because of the difference in their ranks or the potential lingering feelings of gratitude/debt that Yamato might still associate with the things Kakashi has done for him in the past.  (But of course, like you said, Yamato would probably interpret this as “reticence,” or deliberate distancing, and obviously that would heighten his pre-existing anxieties, which would just complicate things further.)
...it wouldn’t be about the name itself, it’d be Yamato trying to find a way to express that he doesn’t want Kakashi to keep seeing him as the “Tenzo” he’s always known...as his subordinate “Tenzo” that he has to “take care of”...
THIS.  I totally agree with you - I can definitely see Yamato getting frustrated at being (unintentionally) put into a box by Kakashi, because even though Kakashi absolutely does not mean it this way, the fact of the matter is that Kakashi taking on all of the responsibility/guilt/blame about this situation disregards the active choices and sacrifices Yamato made.  It’s almost...disrespectful.  Dismissive of Yamato’s agency.  And of course we as the audience know that it isn’t intended that way at all - Kakashi respects Yamato more than anyone in the world, and his reaction comes from a very real place where he legitimately feels that he’s been taking advantage of unearned/undeserved loyalty and devotion - but I absolutely can see Yamato getting snappy about being treated like what happened to him was the result of something Kakashi “made” him do, like all the work he’s been doing for the last year was just him following orders and not something he also had a personal stake in.
The whole point of Yamato escaping the Foundation (and even the ANBU) was that he wouldn’t have to be anybody’s lapdog anymore.  It wasn’t about him trading one master for another.  He doesn’t follow Kakashi because he’s obligated to do so; he does it because he believes Kakashi is worthy of being followed.  It’s not that Yamato doesn’t feel a debt of gratitude to Kakashi; he does, and he probably always will, but Yamato also believes in the same mission as Kakashi, cares about the same children, wants to protect the same future.  Maybe, when he accepted that first substitute assignment from Tsunade, he did so in the spirit or following orders or doing Kakashi a favor, but at this point, Yamato is just as invested in the struggle as everyone else.  He cares about the kids just as much, and he’s just as committed to saving the world.  He ended up getting captured because he was willing to give his life for the cause, and he deserves to have that decision honored as the true sacrifice it is, instead of having it minimized as an artificial choice that he was compelled or deceived into making.
I think, deep down, it’s hard for Kakashi to conceive of the idea that someone would choose to follow him for valid reasons.  He feels like everyone who loves and respects him does so because they’re laboring under a false impression of his goodness.  But for Yamato, hearing this is essentially tantamount to being told that he’s still someone else’s thrall.  Like he isn’t making his own informed decisions about who to follow or who to serve, like he’s still being led around by the nose by someone who can make him do anything they want, like someone else (however benevolent) still has him under their thumb.  I’m sure he knows Kakashi doesn’t mean it that way, but I also can imagine, in a moment of upset, that he would react poorly to being portrayed like that - at the implication, however unintentional, that he isn’t truly free.
It’s like you said - Yamato doesn’t want Kakashi to keep thinking of him as a prisoner who needs to be rescued.  He doesn’t want to be limited to being a tool in someone else’s hands (especially not a tool for Kakashi’s continued self-flagellation), and he doesn’t want his friendship with Kakashi to be limited to what it was back when Yamato was an enslaved child.  He needs Kakashi to give him credit for his own decisions, which means he needs Kakashi to let go of the guilt and absorb the message ‘i have not been coerced into caring about you!’  Tenzo, in his capacity as Kakashi’s comrade, has never been confused about what kind of person Kakashi is.  He hasn’t been taken advantage of or manipulated into doing something he didn’t want to do.  He has never been a tool for Kakashi to use; he has always been Kakashi’s willing partner.  His loyalty to Kakashi is not unquestioning obedience or obligatory repayment of a debt; it’s justified respect, genuine admiration, and more-than-earned affection.  All Yamato did during the war was take the same risks that Kakashi himself has taken on Yamato’s behalf countless times, and if Kakashi can’t accept the fact that Yamato took those risks willingly - if Tenzo can only be “Tenzo, Kakashi’s charge” instead of “Tenzo, a true equal” - then maybe it’s time to leave that old identity behind entirely.
I do think they’ll eventually figure this all out and it will be okay.  But I 100% understand why we might see Yamato chafing at being addressed in a certain way prior to all these knots being untangled.
He doesn’t need to be “Yamato” to Kakashi, but he might be unconsciously seeking reassurance Kakashi still wants “Yamato” around.
Ohh, this...I’m... 😭😭😭
#naruto#pan watches naruto#a true equal#i know you said you weren't sure you were articulating your thoughts in a 'comprehensible' way#but i think you're hitting the nail exactly on the head#yamato's worst fear is that things are going to go back to the way they used to be#he'll go home and go back to the anbu#he'll put the mask back on and disappear#the kids will remember him vaguely#like a teacher they once had in high school#every few years he and kakashi will run into each other#and kakashi will be casually friendly#but that's all it will ever be: two acquaintances who don't really know each other anymore#because yamato is back to being 'tenzo' now; and kakashi has never tried to stay in touch with 'tenzo' before#'yamato' had something essential to offer#and now that the mission he was assigned is over#'yamato' doesn't exist anymore#'yamato' was just a code name.  it was a pretend identity.#this entire year with team 7 was a temporary assignment#and yamato knew that#but what he didn't know was how desperately he wouldn't want it to end#living outside the anbu was like a dream; and yamato doesn't want to wake up#we know that.  we SAW that.  canonically - what he wants most in the world is to stay right where he is#his tsukuyomi dream is to hear kakashi say 'this is where you truly belong'#and it makes sense that yamato isn't sure if 'tenzo' can achieve that#because kakashi always let 'tenzo' drift away before#and of course that had everything to do with kakashi's own personal issues and nothing to do with yamato#but how is yamato supposed to know that?#i just think...yamato is more afraid of going home than of anything that ever happened to him during the war#because nothing can possibly be worse that being that alone again

Regrets :
Kakashi Hatake angst fanfiction where the reader is in hospital and Kakashi is having flashbacks about everything he should have done right with her.
Note: Please read part1 if you haven't :)
Warning : angst, flashbacks
----------------------------------
kakashi sat outside your room, his head in his hands, his mask drenched in tears, he sobbed silently. He had made a lot of mistakes in his life and you've always been there for him but was he ever there for you? his mind went back to everything that he could have done wrong, he didn't want to apologize for just this one mistake, he wanted to apologise for them all. He wanted to rectify his every mistake.
His thought back to last memory before this mission, your date night....
..........................................................................
Kakashi preferred at home dates compared to going out. It was more relaxing and comfortable. You both would often shop for ingredients together and go home and cook together, More like he would cook and you would entertain him with anything and everything you had to say. He liked that about you, you always have something to say. That day you were at the store and kakashi was teaching you how to pick the best ingredients, then she came..
"hi kakashi, hey y/n! what are you two doing here together?"
You and kakashi looked at eachother, kakashi was the one to speak..
"oh i ..uh ... bumped into y/n here and i was helping her pick vegetables"
rin clasped her hands admiring kakashi "aah! you're always helping others! speaking of help can you please help me fix the lights at my house, it's late and i can't find anyone"
"uh..yaa sure.. I'll see you around y/n" . With this kakashi gave you a look and you understood he meant for you to go back home and he'll join you in a while.
That day while helping rin Kakashi almost forgot about your date, he was having dinner with rin when it hit him... He quickly apologized to rin and rushed back to your house. It was almost midnight and he knew he messed up. He opened the door and found you sleeping on the couch in a fetal position, your blanket lying on the floor. He knelt and he could see the tear stains on your cheeks. The grocery bags were on the table, unopened. Did you eat anything? It was too late to wake you up now so he carried you to your bedroom and tucked you in, he would cook you breakfast tomorrow and apologize, he knew you'd forgive him. You must have sensed this as you woke up and looked at him..
"hey kashi, what time is it?". you asked half asleep.
"it's almost midnight y/n, I'm sorry I missed our date"
"it's fine, did you eat anything?" , kakashi could only nod before you humed and went back to sleep.
..........................................................................
Looking back at it now kakashi could not believe he failed to see the hurt, he didn't even bother asking you if you had eaten anything. He should have woken you up and cooked for you regardless of the time, he should have appologised instead of waiting for the morning, next morning came a knock on the door, an anbu summoning you to meet the hokage, he didn't get to cook you breakfast, he didn't get to apologize, He was enjoying his dinner with rin while you were at home waiting for him. He felt his heart ache. But now it seemed like it was too late to do anything.
He looked around for the head nurse asking him if he could stay inside with you, he agreed but on the condition that he should not disturb you and he can stay only till evening.
Kakashi stepped inside your room, his eyes fixed on your face, kunai marks clearly visible on your face, you looked so frail, like you would break if he touched you. So he sat beside you and held your hand as gently as he could, feeling your pulse under his thumb, knowing that you're still here. He let out the breath he didn't know he was holding ever since he stepped inside. He brought his lips down to meet your hand and kissed it gently. whispering a faint appology against your skin. Hoping that you'd feel it.
Kakashi didn't move, he stared at you, until he heard a faint knock on the door, he looked back to see rin peeping through the glass, he nodded his head at her allowing her to come in.
"she looks weak" rin said placing a hand on Kakashi's hand and sitting beside him. Kakashi gently removed her hand and went back to holding yours.
"doctor said they did everything they could now we have to wait for her to gain consciousness, she'll be fine right? She has to come back, I won't..I won't be able to live if..if .."
Kakashi was on the verge of breaking down, he didn't want to think to of the big "IF" but he couldn't help it. He failed to save obito and now you..not you...he can't let it happen to you, he'd rather be in your place right now.
"look kakashi i won't give you false hopes, her condition seems bad, if she doesn't make it i want you to remember that it wasn't your fault"
kakashi looked at rin, he looked like he was ready to push her out of the room, scream at her for even suggesting something kike this. But he stayed calm, he knew he can't disturb you.
"when she comes back rin, not "if", i don't care how long it takes but she has to"
"kakashi it's not your fault, you need to stay practical and all of us are worried about you, when was the last time you ate anything? it's been two days since we can back, you need to look after yourself-"
"i think you should leave" Kakashi said still looking at you. His thumb rubbing circles on your knuckles.
"I can't see you like this-"
"i thought you were here to see y/n but it seems like you have made up your mind that she won't come back, if you're not here for her then please leave"
rin took a step back, she had only seen kakashi like this once before, cold, hurt, angry, lost..obito....if only he was here. She decided it's best to leave him be. Taking one last look at you, at his hand holding yours rin thought that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it was only her and Kakashi.
..........................................................................
Kakashi stayed by your side the entire day, looking at you, feeling your pulse under his thumb as if he was scared that if he'd let go you'll leave him for good. He doesn't remember how many times he cried, he doesn't remember what day or time it was. His senses were going haywire, he only broke away from his chain of thought upon hearing a faint knock on the door, it was the nurse telling him it was time for him to leave.
He sat outside your room the entire night, head leaning against the wall, eyes shut, mind empty untill he sensed someone familiar standing infront if him.
"hi gai" kakashi said his eyes still closed.
"hey kakashi, how long how have you been here for? you look like a mess"
"if you're here to ask me to leave then you should stop"
"aaah kakashi you underestimate me... why don't you go and clean yourself up and I'll stay here with her! I'll take good care of her!" gai flashed him his positive smile and kakashi could feel some weight lift off his shoulder. Gai is a good friend. But can he leave you? No.
"I'm fine gai, thank you"
"Oi I'm not asking you to clean up for yourself, if she sees your like this when she wakes up aaah she'll probably faint, we can't risk that". Did he smell that bad? he must have. He's been here since .. he doesn't remember since when.
After much coaxing from his rival kakashi finally decided he should clean up.
"Aah fine I'll go" kakashi got up groaning. Thankful for having a friend like gai.
..........................................................................
Back at his home kakashi stepped under shower for first time in two days, For the first time in two days kakashi broke down, sobbed at his heart's will untill his knees could not support him anymore.
He changed into fresh clothes and looked around the house for anything that he could take back for you, he saw the scarf that you gifted him before his mission in land of snow. The mug that you gifted him on his birthday, what did he gift you for your birthday? Right .... your birthday...he thought back to another day where he let you down..
You were always excited about everything, his birthday, your birthday, his ninkens' birthday, you loved surprises he knew.
On your birthday it was a day off and you and kakashi decided to go for lunch at ichiraku and then to a park, that's all you had asked for. Both of you were strolling in park, it was a beautiful day, The park was relatively empty and you held hands. It was beautiful. Until he saw some of his anbu friends coming from the other side and he hastily left your hand. He remembered how he could not refuse their offer to go for drinks, how you reluctantly agreed to come with them considering it was your birthday only to be left sitting alone at the bar counter. He remembered now how tired you looked by the end of it. Kakashi wanted to take you to library and watch sunset from the hokage mountain but as you and kakashi walked out of the bar, the sun had long settled down and library had shut down hours ago.
Walk towards your home was filled with silence, you always had something to say so why were you silent now? Kakashi broke the silence as you reached your apartment..
"uhh hey I'm sorry for today, i couldn't refuse them, they would have found out about us-"
"stop Kakashi, they already saw us in the park! they already have their doubts why does it matter what they think?"
"it matters to me y/n , I'm doing this for you, please try to understand"
"well if it matters to you so much then i guess it must be my fault to expect something..."
"i know you're upset, we still have some time left we can go in and spend it together"
you could see kakashi felt bad for everything. It wasn't like he didn't care, he did. He just didn't know how to show it, right? so you sighed and gave him a weak smile, "we hardly have an hour left Kakashi and honestly I'm really tired. Thank you for today. We'll celebrate it next year" with that you walked insie your apartment.
Right ... he wanted to buy you your favourite book from the book store at Library, your birthday was tomorrow, If a year ago kakashi had known that this is how he'll be spending your birthday then he would have bought you all the books you could ever read, watched all the sunsets with you, would've held your hand everywhere..
For now, he packed some food pills, his scarf your favourite blanket with leaf prints and left for hospital with a hope in his heart that you'd wake up.
..........................................................................
Kakashi reached hospital to see gai sitting on the chair.
"hey gai, it's getting late you should rest now" Kakashi spoke walking towards him.
"Nah, I won't leave my rival alone even for a second!"
No matter how hard Kakashi tried to send gai away he didn't budge . Gai refused to leave his side and decided to sleep on the couch in waiting room.
Kakashi stood before the door looking through the glass window. At one point before turning away he thought he saw your eyelids move and small hint of chakra radiating from you. It was small and fleeting. Did he really see it? Was he hallucinating?
Every few hours kakashi would wake up from his sleep and walk over to the glass window and look at you , he didn't see your eyelids flutter, nor did he see the short chakra wave..So began another long night filled with waiting, praying, regrets..
..........................................................................

Link 1, Link 2
(if the links don't work, please let me know)
- Since the day Obito became hokage, he became one of the most important and well respected man in the whole of konoha. Although it's a hectic job, this position comes with many advantages.
- It's a well known fact around konoha that Mr. Hokage is very much single, and every women in konoha admires him. He has power, money, status and a whopping 10 inch huge dick that would pleasure any woman in this world.
- he's so well hung that any woman that has sex with him gets ruined for another man.
- This man has a huge group of sluts that are ready to sleep with him at any given time, and you are one of them. He usually dials up one of his best slut when he's working late night in the office and ends up fucking her rough, like an animal on the hokage table.
- sometimes, all he needs is a blowjob. He'll hide his slut under the table, and command her to suck him off, while he's working. She's not allowed to make any noise, if she does, he'll spank her. She needs to be a good girl and deep throat him like a champ.
- late nights are fun. He calls his you to warm his cock. He loves the feeling of having a tight pussy engulfing his cock. It's the best way for him to de-stress.
- if you act like a brat, or do not obey him, he will tease you to the point where you are crying like a baby, begging him for a release. He'll fuck you, cum in you, but won't let you cum no matter what. This is your punishment.
- this man has so much stamina, he would cum three times and still have it in him to go for another round.
- When he's angry and frustrated from all the work, he'll walk into your home without any notice, bend you over and destroy your pretty pink pussy while fucking you doggie style, his one hand choking you while the other plays with your sensitive nipples while his ANBU are watching this debauchery and jerking off. He might even give them a chance to fuck you as a punishment, all while calling you a pathetic whore.
- the hokage work is tough, and he wants you to be around him at any given hour of the day, so that he can use you, to reduce all that tension and stress. That's why he decides to give you your own room beside his office
- he will only allow you to wear skimpy clothes, and almost no underwear at all times so that he can thrust into you when ever he likes.
- he might let you be fucked by other kages as a gift during the kage summit. You might end up having fivesome, and you absolutely love it 🥵
- he takes you as a side piece on all of his diplomatic missions, with a vibrator inside of you all the time.
- you are not allowed to masturbate. If he catches you, he'll spank you hard, and will fuck another one of his sluts infront of you, making her cum over and over again, while your hands and legs are bound so that you don't touch yourself.
- he will fuck you everywhere. Under the tree, behind the parking lot, on the terrace etc. The thrill of being caught turns him on too much.
- he loves making you squirt, but then will punish you by rubbing your sensitive clit for making a mess on his office table
- each time you moan, or make a noise, he reminds you that he's the hokage and he would punish you if his image was tarnished.

Kakashi's worries were fair. His words are echoes of a person that has lost so many and is still pained by it even now. Anri knows loss, he knows grief but he's not sure he'll ever know it like Hatake Kakashi does. He had seen the pale haired male in front of a certain stone back home before, maybe it was when they were both younger as they are so close in age or maybe it was well into their time in anbu before Kakashi defected. He knows Kakashi has lost people he cares about, his worries are completely fair.
He knows his expression has become so soft in such a way that it has never been for another soul before. Anri's expressions are full of cockiness, playfulness and smugness. It's a rare sight that Kakashi should take the time to remember. His arms are moving, both hands are reaching up now to settle on either side of the Hatake's face and let thumbs gently brush over his cheeks. ❛ I've had people make jokes about me being too damn stubborn to die and . . . I mean, the clan I came from had a motto that was basically the gist of as long as you're breathing you are alive and you will get up time and time again for the people you care about. ❜ They're soft words, reassuring as his bright gaze searches over the pale haired males face. He wants to wipe that sadness away from Kakashi, he wants to see him happy and he wants to make him so happy.
❛ But also . . . I'm in danger if I'm with you or not, kinda comes with the whole being an active member of anbu. Not to scare you or make you worry more. Sorry. ❜ He takes a deep breath and just holds the other males face like he's holding his whole world right in his hands. ❛ But also, it's not like I'd let anything happen to myself anyways. I'm not some rookie, y'know ? Annnnnnd I know you'd never let anything happen to me either just as I'd never let anything happen to you. ❜ He's rambling, it's something he seems to do when he finds his own worries eating at him and rather than put the worries into perfect words, they come out in a mess of words out into the air.
❛ Kakashi . . . I can't promise that nothing wont ever happen to me, I don't know what the future holds but I can promise to be as careful as possible. I can promise that we'll regret not taking a chance at this. I can promise that this is the one thing in my life that I will take the most seriously, which is a lot for me. ❜ He smiles softly, so full of affection and warmth. He's not sure if his words are reassuring but he knows they have sound logic and Kakashi is a logical person, even when worried. ❛ Here's a good idea for this whole thing, just don't lose me then. Protect me. I'll protect you. We'll protect each other, okay ? ❜ Please say okay, don't argue with him about it. It'll just be a battle of who is more stubborn and Anri is not afraid to keep that going forever.
❛ Also, this is about what you deserve and want too. Don't think you're getting away with saying that. It matters to me. It matters to me if you do want this. It matters to me that you deserve happiness. It matters to me that you should get to have at least one good thing in this sometimes rotten world. All of It matters to me. ❜
Tumblr media
This talk of taking risks and being careful made Kakashi want to claw at his brain. Meaningless risks and impulsive decisions were foolish. They went against the Shinobi code and his own rule book.
But this one was far from meaningless.
Anri had always been a bit headstrong, and there had been many a time when Kakashi had cast a glare here and there to get him to dial it back. Though, his own control had faltered several times as well. Anri had witnessed the needless blood Kakashi had spilled out of silent rage, had seen him defy orders to spare a life for questioning to sate some feral need to lash out.
He’d lived in hell for years, and fuck did he want just one good thing to soothe his agony.
Anri’s bright eyes are searching for him, and Kakashi lifts his head to gaze into them. The words weren’t wrong. He was suffering, but it had been a path he’d chosen and a burden he’d expected to bear—only it never included this. Kakashi had accounted for the feelings of betrayal, the loss of friendships, the shattered bonds, but never did he think he might gain something during a time like this.
And here he was, debating on playing the fiend and throwing it in the trash with everything else—if only to protect Anri.
But he could never be so cold, not to him. To himself however, he could be as cruel as he needed.
“This isn’t about what I want or deserve.” He replies quietly. “None of that matters. What does is your life, your safety, and if something happened to you because of me, I could never forgive myself for it.”
Sadness grips his heart like a vice.
“I just don’t want to lose you too.”

[Short story made up by Nona, illustrated by me] It was made as a kind of parody story (you know, in Naruto the love of your life needs to be pierced with pikes, otherwise it doesn't count), so there's not much sense to be honest XD I'll try to explain it anyway! Genkin and Gaki were hanging out outside the village walls (I guess they sneaked out past the gates). Then stumbled upon a group of rogue ninjas and, because they are both cocky bastards, started to fight instead of running away. They were doing quite well but it was only a patrol squad, soon the rest of the group joined and or boys got their ass kicked in no time. One of the rogues went too far and fired at Genkin with wooden pikes. Wounds were mortal, the rest of his group panicked ("what have you done, we weren't supposed to kill anyone!") and started to retreat. At the same time Gaki went into berserker mode and smashed those, who were too slow to run away. Now there's a dramatic love confession (in Genkin's mind "oh, so you do love me... I love you too bro, too bad we didn't tell that to each other earlier") and a few hours later Genkin is waking up in morgue, probably because of some kind of Jashin's blessing. Who knows? The boy is confused, doesn't remember clearly what happened, he just wants to go back home. He seems to not noticing the spikes. At the time both Kakuzu and Hidan were not informed that their son is dead (let's say because anbu was still trying to learn what happened and it was a top-secret or something because another village was involved. Whatever XD) When Hidan saw Genkin, standing in the door with pikes in his chest, he joined the dots quickly and started to cry that Jashin saved his son, that it's a miracle! God's blessing!
But when Kakuzu learned what happened he. got. mad. Like hell it was some fake god's blessing. He never believed in Jashin (or any god) and it wasn't the moment for changing his mind about that. He believed in medicine and medical insurances. Moreover, Kakuzu strongly believed in math - if you have more than one heart your chances of survival are increasing. He was keeping a heart in a jar, he wanted to give it to Genkin on boy's 16th birthday, but what's the point if that brat will die before becoming of age? The time was now. Kakuzu seemed to not listen to Hidan's yells ("are you going to make him a f*cking stitchy doll too? His body was BLESSED BY A GOD you heathen! DON'T YOU DARE..!") nor cared much about Genkin's confused questions ("w..what's going on? Dad, what is THAT?! is this a real human heart? Where are you taking me?"). Before giving his son an anesthesia Kakuzu shortly explained that it's for Genkin's own good. The next day boy woke up with an ugly scar on his back. Soon he'll get it covered with a mask.

“I’m all set, love.” He smiles kissing your cheek and takes the bags from you so he can carry them home, a bit surprised at what he did dd in the fruit bag. “Cherries, huh? I haven’t seen you eat those in months, since we were at the inn.” Itachi says as he grabs a handful out for the two of you to snack on during your walk home. “Are you excited for today? I hope the kids have fun with us since we’re supposed to be the cool aunt and uncle.”
"Of course I'm excited to spend time with my babies." I said as I bit down on a cherry, avoiding the small pit. I squeezed his hand as we made it back home just in time for Hinata and Naruto to drop off Himawari and Boruto. "Hi, my babies." I hugged them both tightly when they rushed over to me. "Go say hi to Uncle 'Tachi while I talk to your parents."
Hinata smiled as she watched her kids rush over to their godfather, bombarding him with questions. "They really do love you both."
I smiled happily. "And we love them. Oh, Naruto. When is my next mission?"
Naruto glances over at me, a sheepish smile on his face. "Yeah about that. Your mission got bumped to an Anbu level mission. Itachi is gonna be taking over it."
"Oh...I see. That means he'll be gone longer." I pouted a bit, knowing that I'll miss him while he's gone. I forced myself to smile, "But anyway, Itachi had called that tea shop you went to and got you reservations for today. So, go enjoy yourselves! Oh! There's Sakura with Sarada and Cho‐Cho!"

okay have some thoughts on this
obviously au minato catapults himself into canon via hiraishin accident. i know dramatic irony is like crack to readers so the first person he meets is obviously naruto
naruto is alone in a park after dark, because he doesn't have anyone to prevent him from being alone in a park after dark, and no other kids means he can play with whatever he wants
minato is confused because it was 2PM but now it's suddenly dark and he is NOT in the place he was aiming for. so he goes up to the funny little kid and is like "hey ummm nice sand castle, what's the date and time?"
it's weird the kid doesn't recognize him, and also where are his caretakers, but minato squats down in the sandbox and is like. "august 3rd? interesting. also have you considered dry sand is not good for sand castles"
naruto is confused a random adult is talking to him, but he's nice so he'll take it. the guy even tells him to get water from the fountain for the sand!!
minato goes to his office because uuhhh he appears to have jumped forward in time about a day and a half. then he GETS to his office and chaos ensues. idk how he finds out about naruto but the second he does, he's like BYE. like listen minato got to hold his son for all of five seconds before he lost him, he has been THINKING about those five seconds nonstop for years, and he is not fucking around
from naruto's POV he has very sneakily broken in somewhere for a prank and now sand castle guy is. there. he thinks he's going to be in trouble but instead sand castle guy is wringing his hands and looks like he might cry at any second. he offers to help with the spray paint. okaaay? weirdo
meanwhile minato feels like his brain is on fire. naruto has kushina's face. he is SO cute and funny and creative and brave. he wants to hug him and never let go. he knows being hugged by a random strange adult could be really scary for a kid. he helps him graffiti ANBU headquarters and chases off ANBU who try to intervene. he has forgotten to tell naruto who he is. he wants to cook him dinner and practice kunai trick shots and then watch a movie and pass out on top of each other on the couch halfway through. he realizes naruto shouldn't be agreeing to bring strangers home and then gets mad at himself. he takes him to ramen and tries to explain things
naruto is obviously excited to have a whole ass parent and he's like: here! look at my apartment! look at this drawing i did of me as hokage! here are my kunai they're real and everything!! don't look at the grade on my test look at this cool plan i made for another prank on the back of it!! do you want cup ramen i don't have any vegetables and my stove doesn't work!!
and we get the very stereotypical "wait you live WHERE and you eat WHAT" reaction from minato, whose brain is still on fire. this timeline has his SON but not him or kushina and they're not even showering him with love and affection???
so minato's brain-on-fire solution is that he should bring naruto with him. except he doesn't know how to go back to his own timeline and both hiruzen and danzo are making moves against him. so obviously he grabs naruto and just flees konoha
ANBU guy: we can't let you leave
minato, naruto under his arm: aw, and who's going to stop me? you? <3
except he doesn't have a real PLAN so he just flees into the woods with an eight year old. eventually he'll figure out how to reverse the jutsu but uuuuh sit tight, naruto.....! jiraiya comes and confronts him but minato has access to this timeline's hiraishin markers so he can't really stop him either. no jiraiya he doesn't CARE that he's stealing the jinchuriki that's his CHILD. iwa is freaking out and so is every other village
(naruto is cool with everything happening so far. some of the fights are scary but the yellow flash is his dad and he's pretty sure he's invincible. he's not the biggest fan of camping but it's not THAT bad and he tried the "i had a nightmare" line from manga and minato let him sleep right next to him. minato thinks he's funny and compliments his prank ideas and helps him make them better and then helped with kunai practice and was nice even when he messed up. also once they go to the other timeline minato promises him his own room he can decorate however he wants and to cook him meals all the time and when he's too busy to be home at night he'll get a babysitter he'll make be nice to naruto and they can order out, and he bets if he tries "i had a nightmare" no jutsu in a HOUSE he'll get to share the bed!! minato was like "no obviously you can't skip class or prank your teacher???" which is kind of lame but naruto bets other kids will be nice to him if his dad is hokage....!)
was thinking about fix-it fics where time travel shenanigans mean naruto gets to meet minato but how those never hit juuuust right with me because it's always pre-naruto minato who is in his early 20s and hasn't sufficiently cultivated a dadsona...... but hear me out. alt timeline minato crashes into canon timeline. au!minato lost both kushina AND baby naruto in the kyuubi attack. canon!naruto is like 7-8.
naruto: (is his son, and basically a tiny kushina, and is being neglected and mistreated)
minato: hi yeah i'm going to act SO insane about this <3

Oooh, I like this.
Imagine a world where Kakashi has lived the life he has before- his father committed suicide, his team mates died via rocks and by his own hand, and he is completely and utterly alone. And in this world, he had no Minato to look after him, just a dumb jonin who took one look at the team he was given and then focused all his attention on the prodigy, ignoring the other two. All Kakashi has is his rules and his skills, at first, but after the dumb jonin, those two things have combined into pride. Kakashi is smarter, more loyal, just all around better than everyone else, and he knows it. And then Kannabi happens and Rin jumps in front of his chidori, and all that goes crumbling away.
In this world, Kakashi is fed up, alone, and vulnerable. That's when a spirit who calls himself Minato finds him and offers him a deal. The speed to save the people he cares about, in exchange for the one thing Kakashi has left- his pride. Kakashi, shattered and thinking anything- anything to make sure I'm never too late again- agrees. And Minato smiles bright like the sun and binds Kakashi to his will.
From then on, Kakashi serves one master and one master only- Minato- and he is forced to do anything that his new sensei tells him to. Not that he'd fight him on any of his orders, of course, Kakashi is still too fragile to function on his own and Minato is very good at balancing just the right amounts of kindness and cruelty to make sure that his student always still needs him.
To say that they love each other wouldn't quite be a lie, but only in the way that poison is considered a "food." It has been stripped of all but the most basic aspects of it, and new, much more bitter things have been added. There is mutual affection there, yes, and a terrifying sense of protectiveness. But on Kakashi's side, there is also unwavering devotion and a longing for softness and kindness that Minato is unable to give him in a traditional sense. For Minato, there is sense of propriety- Kakashi is his and he won't let anyone or anything else interfere with that. He'll let Kakashi do as he pleases of course, after all, Minato has no stake in petty human conflicts. But on a fundamental level, he needs Kakashi to be reliant on him or else their bond will break.
So Minato controls Kakashi through how much softness he shows his student, only giving him the most cursory of touches and saving grand gestures like head pats and hugs for when he thinks Kakashi has earned it.
Of course, this backfires horribly when Kakashi runs out of people to protect. The deal was for the teen to be given impossible speed in exchange for his pride. However, the implications on both sides of the deal are what actually made the bond function- pride meaning that Kakashi would live a life of servitude and being lesser, the speed being a way for Kakashi to protect his precious people. And now that Minato- in his attempt to keep Kakashi from leaving him- has isolated Kakashi and ruined his sense of self worth, the bond is fraying. Those gifted powers are failing.
It's an S-rank solo Anbu mission and Minato is watching as his beautiful shining student cuts through the enemy nin like a hot knife through butter. However, something goes wrong as Minato gets noticed- and he gets jumped. Kakashi panics and saves his sensei using that gifted speed, but only by throwing himself in the path of the blade. The mission is completed and it's time to go home, but Kakashi is bleeding out and that same speed refuses to kick in when it's only his own life that needs saving and no one else's. They manage, of course, but only because Minato carries him back to Konoha, and even then it's a bit touch and go during the surgery after. All of this is eye-opening for Minato, who didn't realize the strength of Kakashi's love/devotion/loyalty and didn't know that, by trying to control Kakashi, he could have gotten him killed via not allowing Kakashi to even think of himself beyond "a tool for Minato." If Kakashi had thought of himself or of Konoha as precious too, then the magic wouldn't failed.
Minato takes Kakashi home as soon as he is able, bundles his student up in a bunch of blankets, and hugs it to his chest as he lays on the bed sobbing his eyes out. Kakashi starts crying too, thinking that Minato is disappointed in him, and starts sobbing desperate apologies. This, of course, only sets Minato off more and the two finally talk their feelings out and confess the extent of their love for each other. They also renegotiate their contract and their bond becomes far more healthy.

"... A month?!" There wasn't anger, just shock and immediate confusion. Now there was nothing anymore that he could understand and also there was that pang in his chest to lose a job he had worked so hard for. "That's not fair.. That's absolutely not fair... You can't just... "
Gaze averting again he really had trouble holding it together, trouble to not just break down over it, may it be with tears or a fit of anger. And even though Ibiki would be the next best choice to let it out on, he didn't deserve that.. He also was just carrying out a decision made by others and so his lids slowly closed to hide the glistening that was about to move onto onyx hues.
"... I'll ." Stopping for a little before he continued, taking a small breath. "... Go pack up my things... From the locker then and... " Yeah and what .. head in home and start yelling at nothing in particular? Or maybe he'll just go and visit that training field that was more far out and tire himself out until he'd be near collapsing, although he seriously didn't feel like it.
"... I just don't understand what... Gives the impression that I am struggling .. so much?" It was almost painful to hear him so quiet as he wrapped his arms around himself a little. ".... And is it .. permanent.... That I am.. demoted to... Jōnin...? There is.. I will get back into ANBU...right ..?"
Ibiki stood up behind his desk as Kagami stepped into the office. “Close the door.”
Once it had clicked shut, he folded his arms. He wasn’t happy about the situation, in fact, it hit much more than a little too close to home for him as well. But that in itself was why Ibiki had wanted to be the one to handle this.
“I’m not going to beat around the bush, because the fact of it is that there’s no easy way to tell you this, Kagami.”
It had to be done. It had to.
“You’re being discharged from ANBU. Effective immediately.”
He already had an uneasy feeling as he got ibiki's note, it was.... Too formal for the usual 'meet me up' because he wanted to see him, so he swallowed heavily.
Of course he wouldn't let him wait, relationship or not, Ibiki was still his supervisor and maybe there was something Kagami might have done wrong? He is gonna find out, one way or another.
Entering his office, with no greeting whatsoever though felt .. distant and there was a had feeling settling in his stomach as the taller man rose up from his seat after the door was promptly closed. The Uchiha wasn't sure if he should bow, but he did to show his respect and as soon as ibiki started to speak, his mind started racing.
But then it hit him... Discharged ... Immediately...? His head whipped up as if he was bitten by a snake, round eyes looking at the man in front of him in disbelief. "Dis-.. what? But.. but.. but that.. that must be a misunderstanding I am sure lord Hokage made a mistake with it... Or at least i-... There was nothing I had done... Wrong .?" It must be a mistake, it seriously has to be.
