I actually do think some form of it still happens.

In this AU, the present day isn't at war with Faovaria. Hyrule and Faovaria are dangling at the brink, but there's no declarations yet. (Why? I don't know-- butterfly effect? Don't think too deeply about it.)

Nephus and Icarius would be bumming around Hyrule once more, but this time in a more official manner. Maybe Nephus is part of an ambassador's entourage for negotiations.

Either way, Warriors would get the chance to meet Icarius, albeit in a more formal manner. They would still really like each other, but there would be less of a chance of them actually ending up together. Warriors would have transitions away from field work and into an office job, and everyone would know that Icarius is a thrall, so there wouldn't be any impromptu dates in Kakariko.

I read a book I really enjoyed (a new TSG retelling, no less!) in a few eager golollops whenever I had time today. It was refreshing not to be disappointed, and I love it when the reading experience is not just mildly pleasant but gripping.
