Top 20: my favorite interactive stories

Hello, guys!

Once I saw that one of my popular and mostly likeable posts was about IF, I decided to share with you my personal top of the best IF authors I have known.

I read a lot of WIPs (work in progress) and finished novels since three long years, so I might recommend truly incredible stories. I apologies for adding pics and some additional info about my MC, but I wanted to bring spark of life into this top.

I'll start with telling about quartet of works greatly affected on me. It was almost like… living my second life. It felt so real, so vibrant. In the darkest times it gave me the strenght to meet the next day.

It has been five long years since the end of The Border Wars. Five long years without a purpose. Endlessly drifting around from one job to the next, serving your apathetic father only to receive no credit. Nobody in Kanton truly knows what you did. How you won The War, leading the armies of Kanton as a youth.

Nobody knows what it took out of you. Spending your formative years in war is not good for one’s outlook on life. Your emotions now lie behind a mask of stoicism. After all, all emotions do is cloud one’s judgement and wind up costing lives.

Nobody knows how much it hurt to be cast down from the throne and succession. To be disinherited, cast away from the family, and left aside to die.

You’re the ex-commander of the Kingdom of Plaithus, and your name is known by all. It used to be whispered in fear by your enemies, and the very mention of it could send men fleeing. Your people had cried it out in battle, swords raised in your honor as they faced death fearlessly. You were a hero, and to some, a legend.

Until you weren’t.

You can’t remember what happened. All that’s left are blurry faces, screams, and the feeling of blood on your hands. The only reason you still have your head is because of the pity of an old friend.

And now? It’s only been a year since the incident, and already things are going wrong again when a rather peculiar sorcerer offers you absurd amounts of gold in exchange for protection from… well, that’s the problem, isn’t it? You don’t know.

Shepherds of Haven is a dark fantasy interactive fiction game. The Seven Heirs of Ophaesia is a low-fantasy game set in a Renaissance-esque world where you play as one of seven heirs to a fictional kingdom rife with intrigue. As the King’s seventh child, you are a prince or princess of Ophaesia, a luxurious nation along the southern coast of Selanes. You are the first child of your father’s third wife, a woman hated throughout the realm due to the pervasive suspicion that she poisoned the previous queen, and her poor reputation taints your image in the eyes of the court and beyond. From your days in the palace nursery all the way to adulthood, you must navigate treacherous court politics and delicate foreign affairs while trying to find your place in the world — and your family.

Deal with cults, interdimensional entities, and far too many people with superpowers (where, for once, you’re the odd one out) in your journey to bring your sibling back from an underworld far out of your control.

You play as a sheevra investigating the city of Renescen after the complete disappearance of one of four sheevra Clans in the world, running across a ragtag group of both sheevra and mortalis along the way.

As years go by, you realize the amount of energy you need to leave this horrible dimension behind is a lot more than you anticipated. Not to mention the creature that almost ate you all those years ago never really stopped looking for you. But there’s no way it’ll pinpoint your actual location… right?

You are primarily an academic, and you put your skills to use on regular scouting missions. With your best friend and your scouting team leader in tow, your small group is a pillar of the Community.

On your first scouting mission of the hot season, you meet the leader of the People Across the Orange Plains. Will you break from the Community you have known your whole life? Ask a romantic partner to join you? Discover secrets that your own people have been hiding? Become a leader yourself?

Your life isn’t going how you’d hoped. Despite having big plans when you graduated, you’re stuck in a dead end job and a crappy flat with zero romantic life to speak of. All until a friend convinces you to join the cast of a new reality TV show.

The premise is simple: 12 singles are sent to a villa on a tropical island and they live there together for a month. After 28 days, the couple who is voted by the other islanders as being most likely to withstand the test of time will win £500,000. In addition, the couple with the highest body count will win £500,000. Total prize pool? £1,000,000.

In this context, “body count” refers to how many people you’ve slept with… right? Well, that’s what you think when you sign your contract. Turns out, though, that not all of your fellow cast members will be using that definition to get to the prize.

Fall in love, win big money, solve some murders and try to stay.

You play as an OPERATIVE of Scytha Industries, a highly selective private security company. As their most elite Operative, you possess many skills and talents, not to mention top-of-the-line equipment - including your very own AI module, IVI.

This, of course, puts a price on your head. An AI module goes for billions on the black market; carrying one around in your skull is, perhaps, not the safest idea. Sure, you’re more than a match for anyone who might come after you - but no-one outside the high levels of Scytha knows about it, so you should be safe anyway, right?

Wrong.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I do want to thank all these tremendously talented authors for creating such complex and beautiful worlds. I love it with all my soul.

Disagreements:

Who is more likely to raise their voice? I feel like Dhana might, when Sand is mad he’s more like the dangerous, quietly-spoken angry. He does, however, raise his voice when panicked/frightened. Who threatens to leave but never actually does? Sand would be more likely to bluff in this aspect. Who actually keeps their word and leaves? If Sand pushes Dhana too far I think she might be the first to walk away, but I guess it depends on the situation o: Who trashes the house? Between Dhana and Sand, I think definitely Dhana xD Do either of them get physical? Nope, there’s always a better way of sorting these things out How often do they argue/disagree? Because Sand often likes to argue for argument’s sake and Dhana feels like a rebellious sort, they’re probably 50-50 on any given topic :P Who is the first to apologise? This is also something I feel is 50-50, both of them have to work around their pride and accept where they went wrong.

Sex:

Who is on top? I feel like Sand won’t have Dhana’s endurance so Dhana would more likely be on top - that’s the feeling I get, anyways Who is on the bottom? Sand would take this role but still try to remain dominant to some degree. Who has the strangest desires? Definitely Sand. Any kinks? I can see them both sharing a penchant for public exhibition (with help from invisibility spells, wards, etc) to some degree? I might be wrong, though. Who’s dominant in bed? Sand Is head ever in the equation? Absolutely, especially if they want to draw out their pleasure for as long as possible If so, who is better at performing it? Sand, he’s not known to have a silver tongue for nothing ;D Ever had sex in public? Of course, but remaining very, very careful all the while. Who moans the most? Sand, totally Who leaves the most marks? I definitely see Dhana leaving all sorts of hickies and bites and whatnot Who screams the loudest? Maybe Dhana? Who is the more experienced of the two? Sand’s got centuries of experience under his belt Do they ‘fuck’ or ‘make love’? Sand does not ‘fuck’. Nor is he likely to make love unless he’s absolutely feeling that love - he’s more likely to have sex like it’s a contest or a performance, and he always tries to find ways to have the upper hand. Rough or soft? I feel like Dhana might be rougher while Sand tries to keep things soft and subtle. How long do they usually last? ...Dhana would have him beat. XD Is protection used? Of course! Mage armor, protection from alignment, sanctuar-- oh. I mean, yeah, they make use of contraceptives either before or after. With two mages there’s always something to use in their favor. Does it ever get boring? Never. Where is the strangest place they’d have sex? They wouldn’t make it too outlandish, Sand has a reputation to upkeep. I suppose it depends on how far Dhana’s willing to go.

Family:

Do your muses plan on having children/or have children? I can’t see them having kids, but depending on how far along a romance would go, that could possibly be subject to change. If so, how many children do your muses want/have? Probably no more than one or two. Who is the favorite parent? Dhana Who is the authoritative parent? Sand Who is more likely to allow the children to have a day off school? Dhana Who lets the children indulge in sweets and junk food when the other isn’t around? I’m feeling Dhana on this but I might be wrong :P Who turns up to extra curricular activities to support their children? Totally Sand Who goes to parent teacher interviews? Sand Who changes the diapers? Poor Dhana would be stuck with this doody duty. Sand has an extremely acute sense of smell. Who gets up in the middle of the night to feed the baby? Sand, as an elf, doesn’t need sleep, so he’ll be the one to answer those cries. Who spends the most time with the children? I can see them trying to be equitable with time spent, so 50-50? Who packs their lunch boxes? Also 50-50, I think Who gives their children ‘the talk’? Sand tries, he really does. But he doesn’t use layman’s terms so the children would have to turn to Dhana to understand what the fuck he just told them xD Who cleans up after the kids? Sand would know how to get almost any stain out. Who worries the most? More likely Sand, our poor guy is an ex-hosttower mage and he’s got boundless paranoia. Who are the children more likely to learn their first swear word from? DHANA xD

Affection:

Who likes to cuddle? I’m giving this one to Dhana Who is the little spoon? Sand. He’s the little everything. Who gets naughty in the most inappropriate of places? Probably Dhana, but Sand is just as bad if he allows it :P Who struggles to keep their hands to themself? Dhana maybe? How long can they cuddle until one becomes uncomfortable? This one I’m not sure about. Maybe an hour? Who gives the most kisses? Dhana, maybe What is their favourite non-sexual activity? Probably reading or cooking together Where is their favourite place to cuddle? In front of the fireplace Who is more likely to playfully grope the other? Dhana, but Sand would sneak one once in a while for payback How often do they get time to themselves? It depends on how often they’re running for their lives on another whirlwind adventure XD

Sleeping:

Who snores? Dhana - Sand wouldn’t make such an undignified sound If both do, who snores the loudest? Dhana, still Do they share a bed or sleep separately? They’d share a bed, assuming they’re in a romantic relationship or closely platonic If they sleep together, do they cozy up together or lay far apart? Probably far apart Who talks in their sleep? Sand doesn’t sleep, so this one goes to Dhana if she does at all What do they wear to bed? Either nothing at all, or pajamas Are either of your muses insomniacs? I guess Sand counts, since he doesn’t need sleep. Maybe Dhana too, if she continues to have nightmares Can sleeping pills be found by the bedside? For Sand? Not really. He might have a brew or a supplement to offer to Dhana if she can’t find rest though. Do they wrap their limbs around each other or just lay side by side? Side by side at first but they may end up tangled some time later Who wakes up with bed hair? Elven hair is almost always immaculate, so Dhana would definitely have the bed hair. Who wakes up first? Totally Sand Who prepares breakfast in bed for the other? Sand, if he’s feeling generous What is their favourite sleeping position? Probably the basic side-by-side or spooning. Who hogs the sheets? Work:

Who is the busiest? Sand, he’s got a whole shop to run and a Knight Captain with a penchant for raising Cain to advise Who rakes in the highest income? Sand? I think? Are any of your muses unemployed? I’m not sure if Dhana’s work as an adventurer counts as employment but I think it does count, so neither? Who takes the most sick days? I’m not sure about this one Who is more likely to turn up late to work? Sand runs his own shop and there’s not really much of a punch in-punch out aspect for adventuring, so... neither? Maybe Sand? Who sucks up to their boss? Absolutely Sand. When he’s able to successfully stifle his sarcasm, his self-preservation makes him quite the suck-up. He’ll hate himself to some degree afterwards, though. “Gods, how ingratiating...” What are their jobs? Sand is a wizard, alchemist, shopkeep, spy, and lawyer. Dhana is an adventurer and a sorceress (maybe more?) Who stresses the most? Sand is five feet of stress with pointy ears. Do your muses enjoy or despise their careers/occupations? Sand enjoys wizarding but hates being under Nasher’s thumb. As for Dhana, it would depend on what her current task is? Are your muses financially stable? I’d say... yes, most likely

Home:

Who does the washing? I can imagine like any well-balanced couple, they’d take turns Who takes out the trash? Also taking turns Who does the ironing? Doesn’t exist? I think? Who does the cooking? Sand’s cooking is hit or miss tbh and I’m not sure what kind of skill Dhana has Who is more likely to burn the house down just trying? .........That’s a good question Who is messier? Sand’s neat and orderly so that rules him out. Dhana maybe? Who leaves the toilet roll empty? Neither Who leaves their dirty clothes on the floor? Neither? I think? Who forgets to flush the toilet? NEITHER Who is the prankster around the house? Dhana 100% Who loses the car keys when it comes time to go somewhere? Cars don’t exist Who mows the lawn? What lawn? :P Who answers the telephone? What’s a telephone? Who does the vacuuming? Whaa? Who does the groceries? Both of them Who takes the longest to wash? Probably Sand, he’s very thorough. Who spends the most time in the bathroom? Maybe Dhana?

Miscellaneous:

Is money a problem? Nope! How many cars do they own? How many what now? Do they own their home or do they rent? They own Do they live near the coast or deep in the countryside? Near the coast Do they live in the city or in the country? City Do they enjoy their surroundings? Sand will always find something to complain about, so maybe not What’s their song? Probably the Love Song from Dragon Age but that’s subject to change the more Dhana and Sand interact What do they do when they’re away from each other? I imagine they’ll think about each other while trying to keep themselves occupied. They’ll read or attend to business or forge on ahead with whatever’s got them busy, but they’ll keep each other in their thoughts. Where did they first meet? I think in the market? Dhana was running away from someone? But that was a couple Sand RP blogs ago How did they first meet? ^^^ Who spends the most money when out shopping? Maybe Sand? He’s more likely to get the expensive stuff because it’s a quality he can be satisfied with.

Who’s more likely to flash their assets? If this means what I think it means, then Sand’s more likely to show off his expensive stuff. If it means what my dirty mind tells me, I think maybe the both of them are above these sort of things xD Who finds it amusing when the other trips over? Dhana probably can’t help but giggle - so much for that famous ‘elven grace’. Any mental issues? I can imagine PTSD to some degree, some depression Who’s terrified of bugs? Sand. He’s already reaching for the newspaper to swat it with. Who kills the spiders around the house? Sand again. Their favourite place? LIBRARY <3 Who pays the bills? Sand Do they have any fears for their future? Oh, tons Who’s more likely to surprise the other with a fancy dinner? Probably Sand Who uses up all of the hot water? Impossible, they can always make more. One of the many uses of magic :P Who’s the tallest? Totally Dhana. Who’s more likely to just randomly hop into the shower with the other? Does this exist? If it does... maybe Dhana? Who wanders around in their underwear? I’m not sure about this one Who sings the loudest when singing along to the radio? That doesn’t exist, but when Deekin starts singing Sand will 110% of the time plug his ears What do they tease each other about? Sand might tease her lightheartedly about her mannerisms or a lack of subtlety, and she might tease him about his snootiness and his constant need to be right Who is more likely to cringe at the other’s fashion sense at times? Sand would be more likely to show his distaste at Dhana’s wardrobe xD Do they have mutual friends? They both know Rith and Deekin! Who crushed first? Probably Sand. He’s quite affection-starved and if you know the right things to say he’s easy to please. Any alcohol or substance related problems? I don’t know about this yet Who is more likely to stumble home, drunk, at 3am? Dhana Who swears the most? Dhana, tops

(Another) MtG Month of the Ship Day 29 - Wedding

(‘Twas a prompt so nice I had to do it twice~!)

“I realize we’re about five minutes from showtime, but are you absolutely, positively certain you want to take your vows wearing that? As your lawyer, and maid of honor, I feel it’s my responsibility-”

“This is fine, Teysa.” Lavinia adjusted the sash around her breastplate. “It’s tradition for Arresters.”

“It’s also tradition for arresters to fill out paperwork to use the toilet. Besides, that thing makes you look like a walking thumb.”

Lavinia rolled her eyes. “Exava will think it’s funny.”

“She thinks leaving Krovod dung in Jace’s hood is funny.” Teysa pursed her lips and looked up from the catering contract she was reviewing. “Which I guess it is. Okay, point taken.”

“How do I look?” Lavinia did a quick turn. Her wedding gown was a semi-mismatched combination of armor, dress, and the cowl from her days as a street arrester. The latter she’d kept partly for Exava, partly because it gave her some badly-needed courage.

Teysa looked her over top to bottom with a critical eye.

“You look ready. Let’s get you married.”

“Are you sure you want to get married here?” Judith looked around the gaudy church with a raised eyebrow. “As your friend and your Best Witch, I have to say-”

Exava shrugged. “Lavinia’s friend inherited it from a dead uncle or something like that. Besides, doesn’t every little girl dream of a wedding in a golden Orzhov cathedral?” She grinned and made a face. “Especially if your half of the wedding party trashes the place during the after-party.”

“Mmm, that will be fun. Reception is at the ex-guildpact’s home, isn’t it? I’d love to make a little mayhem there too.”

Behind them, Jace cleared his throat.

“I…I’m right here, you know.”

“I am happy for you,” Judith said with a smile, ignoring the mind-mage. “Promise me you’ll still come to the revue for a routine once in a while?”

“I’ll do a lot of things for love, but I’ll never give up on the stage.” Exava did a sharp pirouette onto the altar, and did a set of vaults and somersaults for the wedding guests. The knives sewn into her gown clattered together rhythmically. The right half of the audience, crammed with demons, ogres, goblins, and the wildest collection of humans on Ravnica, hooted appreciatively. The left side, full of mostly sober-faced humans and vedalken, gave a scattered applause, unsure of whether the stunt constituted some part of a Rakdos marriage ceremony.

“She’s coming!”

A small devil scurried through the cathedral doors, its high-pitched-voice cutting through the murmurs of the crowd.

“She’s coming! The bride has come to claim her bride!!” The devil rolled up onto the dais and attempted to light part of the carpet on fire Judith sent it sailing of the dais with a well-aimed kick, and it fell in a giggling arc into the assembled Rakdos crowd.

“Knock her dead, girl,” Judith winked and took her place along the Rakdos side of the cathedral.

The cathedral doors swung open again, and a swell of music sounded from the organs as Lavinia stepped through, escorted by Teysa, her advokist friend with the cane and the stylish face piercings.

Exava felt her heart skip a beat. It was like something out of some corny pulp-novel, but Lavinia really did take her breath away. Her round shoulders, that stern, strong way she walked. The way that stupid cowl framed her cute little face…

And her smile, like the little one she was giving Exava now, as she mounted the steps. That rare but wonderful smile.

“You know I’m not the guildpact anymore, right?” Jace was hissing at Teysa as she took her place on the Azorius side of the cathedral. “Shouldn’t like, Niv-Mizzet be here? Or at least an Orzhov priest?”

“Goodness no.” Teysa clucked her tongue softly. “You’ve been in meetings with Niv-Mizzet, do you think that’s appropriate for a wedding? Moreover, do you really want one of those fat pontiffs droning up here for an hour?”

“I guess not,” Jace muttered. Then he cleared his throat. “Um, right…we’re here to join-”

“Dear, we don’t need you to actually say anything,” Judith whispered. “Just stand there in your cloak and look important.”

Jace muttered something under his breath, but managed a smile. “The vows, then.”

“I’ve been fixated on this wonderful woman for years,” Exava sighed. “There’s nothing funner than bedeviling an arrester, especially when she’s so cu~ute. But somewhere along the way I found someone who’s also kind, strong, and more willing to do what she thinks is right than what she’s told to do.” She took Lavinia’s hand and lay a kiss on the back of it. “I can’t wait to spend whatever time we have left together, and find more rules for her to break. I promise to love you for all that time, and to never stop getting you to have a little more fun.” She kissed the hand again, nipping a knuckle with her canine for good measure.

Lavinia didn’t even flinch, though Exava could swear she turned a small shade pinker as she began her own vows.

“I never thought I’d marry at all.” Lavinia’s smile turned wry and wistful. “When I was younger, nothing seemed as important as the job. You say I’m kind, but…but you helped me want to be kinder still. To help and understand the difference between doing what the law demands and doing what’s right for everyone, regardless of guild. I vow to never forget that compassion, and I vow to protect you always, with all my strength, and with all my love, against any force of law or chaos that tries to harm you.”

She took Exava’s hand now, and kneeling down in front of her, lay a long, soft kiss on the back of Exava’s hand, and then on her fingers. Exava felt the breath leave her again. Lavinia stood, still holding the hand, and winked.

Exava’s heart was thudding against her ribs like a wild ragemutt. This woman…

This wife…

“That was…surprisingly touching,” Jace said. “You may now, um…do whatever, I guess. I don’t think I actually have any control here-”

“Hush,” Teysa whispered.

Exava put ran her fingers along the edge of Lavinia’s cowl.

“May I?”

Lavinia smiled demurely, and nodded.

Exava’s fingers slipped under the cowl and peeled it back from her wife’s face. The neat crop of brown hair underneath was adorably ruffled, and Exava had to refrain from nuzzling it right there and then. Instead, she left her fingers along the back of Lavinia’s head, and pulled her forward into a kiss. Lavinia’s own hands found their way up Exava’s back, and the cool caress gave her the shivers.

Both sides of the cathedral burst into thunderous applause. A rowdy song went up from the Rakdos, and a hearty cheer from the Azorius. Jace was clapping too, flanked by Teysa and a teary-eyed Judith.

And at the center of it all, the newlyweds held each other tighter, the rest of the plane forgotten, for the moment.

Happy Friday! So this is my attempt to both thank awesome fanfic writers for their amazing work and offer my recommendations to anyone who is interested. Here are the fantastic fanfic stories I read this week! They are posted in the order I read them.
