Our genius! There's nothing he could not do!
Gary Anderson, a Grammy Award-Winning musician, had this memory to share with you:I had the honor & pleasure to work for Jerry Lewis and the MDA Telethon for five years, both as a musician and arranger. As the arranger for the telethon it was my job to translate the music the performers brought with them to the 36-piece orchestra we had on stage. I also helped in preparing the music Jerry Lewis would perform. One year I was asked to arrange a piece of music Lewis had composed for the film, âThe Bellboy.â The only recording available was within the film itself. I therefore had to watch the film and transcribe and then re-orchestrate for the telethonâs musicians. Tedious work â especially at midnight with a rehearsal scheduled at 10:00 a.m. In doing the work I uncovered a dissonance in the film score that I just felt was wrong, and at 3:00 a.m. who could I consult with? I went ahead and wrote what I heard, âwrongâ note and all.  At the rehearsal Jerry stopped the orchestra right at âthatâ point in the arrangement and turned to me saying âThere is a wrong note in thereâ (the man had an incredible ear for music).  Fearing my job, I sheepishly said that that was the note in the film-score. He shrugged his shoulder and said, âI told them it was wrong 50 years ago, and it is still wrong today.â  So, it took 50 years but I got to fix note 50 years in the making. True story! I have witnesses

hilarious that with each new day that passes a new bit of dirt from JD Vance's past gets discovered and plastered over the internet...it's almost as if this is why presidential campaigns have always announced their running mates well before the convention...so that if glaring issues with a candidate came to light quickly there would be time to replace them on the ticket before they were officially locked in...it's almost as if certain things in political campaigns were done for a reason, donald...because the very same critical failures had happened before...but no i'm sure you and your guys attempt to recreate a fantasy version of history while ignoring all the reasons that history was a disaster will work this time...because you are built different and the 10000th time trying fascism will work like a charm...
#us politics#politics tw#i view the MAGA movement like this:#the conservatives have been desperately trying to jam a square peg into a round hole for a very long time#and they keep trying because one of these times its GOT to work! a very long time ago they heard the hole was more squarelike#so if they just TRY hard enough it will work!#failing to understand that the hole has become weathered and changed over time and the solution they are trying#will never work (if it ever did)#and then donald trump comes along and looks at the square peg#lobs one of the corners off and proclaims 'this is a triangle! THIS will work! I am so smart!'#and everyone around him is like 'whoa! this guy gets it! he's a genius and understands the problem! he's our savior!'#ignoring the fact that the peg is not a fucking triangle. it's just a deformed square now#so its still not going to work. and even if it WAS a triangle it still wouldn't work because THE HOLE IS ROUND.#it's the same damn peg but it looks a little different so everyone thinks its a genius solution that is DEFINITELY going to work#so they're all excited! they're FINALLY going to prove those idiots trying different types of oval pegs wrong!#they were right all along and it just took donald trump to see it! thank goodness he came along!#but that's just it-- he WAS just COMING ALONG. he was just walking by and saw an opportunity. he never spent time trying to make pegs#all he did was saw a crowd and took a chance to break an already failing peg even further#but because the people were desperate and it was different enough it seemed revolutionary#and now some of the conservatives--who can still see that the 'triangle' peg isnt a triangle are starting to look around#and see that elsewhere there have been some who have forced a triangle into the center of the round hole#and these people think well what if we ACTUALLY tried a real triangle?#and it does not matter to them in the slightest that it will never be the true solution to filling the hole#they just want credit for solving the problem#and so they are going to back donald trump and when the time is right put a real triangle in his hand#while the people trying ovals are busy arguing over the right type of oval#and once the triangle has been jammed into that hole...well...#it is going to be really really hard to force out#anyway thats a long and complicated metaphor and i probably should have just put it in its own post aaaaaahgh#long story short dont be a fascist triangle alright

Grim making a dirt tier list killed me.
The Great Grim's current official Dirt Tier List (copyright NRC Gastronomy Club DO NOT STEAL)
Ramshackle Dorm Dirt- everything tastes better where you are the boss. Best dorm will obviously have best dirt.
Heartslabyul Maze Dirt (has to come from the center)- weirdly clean, probably the healthiest dirt on the list. Don't let Riddle see you eating it unless you want a surprise (collar).
Courtyard Dirt- sometimes has apples in it
Botanical Garden Dirt- depends on where you get it from and Leona is usually here so it's harder to get -_-
To Test:
Pomefiore Dirt- Vil always seems to know when I'm there and won't let me eat it
Dwarf's Mine Dirt- Crowley won't approve club field trip application
#<3 asks#twisted wonderland#twst grim#the great grim is a true genius#he would so try to get yuu to eat dirt w him

Something politically aware people on every part of the political spectrum from the left to the right think is true and leaders of the Russian, Chinese, Israeli, etc. governments believe in enough to talk about publicly and make major geopolitical decisions based on maybe is not just a crazy fringe conspiracy theory, could be that there's some truth to the CIA, NED, etc. having more involvement in these events than the video author thinks I watched all this stuff happen in real time, and I read your notes, which went over how Russian hybrid warfare succeeded in Crimea in 2014. Every major power takes hybrid warfare seriously, what's objectively stupid is your mischaracterization of how it works. Trying to astroturf a revolution out of nowhere simply by paying random citizens en masse to overthrow the government would indeed be stupid but that's not what it is. Your notes seem to suggest that the video says US was paying little attention to eastern Europe until 2013 but Russia was frequently reacting to imaginary US provocations because they are stupid. It's like there's a giant America-shaped hole in the video's narrative. Ukraine was understood to be a NATO-Russia geopolitical battleground long before Euromaidan, it wasn't just Putin shadowboxing imaginary opponents out of pure stupidity that led to this.
You seem to be operating on the basic assumption that governments don't do stupid things for no reason, or fall prey to obviously inane conspiracy theories. That's simply not true; governments are led by human beings, human beings are subject to a common set of cognitive biases, and when you're an authoritarian right-winger (as the leaders of Russia, China, and Israel all are right now), an explanation for your apparent unpopularity that pins all the blame on the CIA instead of your shitty policies and your attempts to cling to power flatters those biases.
But we don't need to speculate about the propensity of governments to do stupid shit, because we have plenty of historical and contemporary examples of governments believing in nonsense: Havana Syndrome in the US, AIDS denialism in South Africa, anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in Nazi Germany and Imperial Russia, etc., etc. And often these false beliefs lead to real strategic blunders: the Bay of Pigs, the Iraq War, World War II, etc. Sometimes world leaders are stupid! Like, leadership probably tends to select for some kinds of intelligence and ability--charisma, social intelligence, and so forth--but it doesn't automatically make you a geopolitical genius, or make you immune to believing false things about the world.
And the biggest problem with the conspiracy theory outlined here isn't just that we can trace its origin to a fringe American political cult, it's that it's not necessary to explain any development in politics since 1989. There is no problem in understanding the revolutions of '89 or 2000-2014 that CIA involvement is necessary to solve. Indeed, as the videos point out (if you would actually watch them), trying to use "the CIA did it" as an explanation adds considerable problems, bc color revolution theory doesn't work. It's based on misconceptions, misunderstanding of data, and a healthy dose of paranoia.
The only real problem is trying to explain Putin's behavior--and that doesn't require color revolution theory to be true, only that Putin believes it is true. And why he would believe something is true, when he has the supposedly vast power of the Russian state at his beck and call, is easy to explain: authoritarian dictators surrounded by yes men do not have accurate pictures of the world! From Idi Amin to Saddam Hussein to Vladimir Putin, there is a common pattern of authoritarian dictators losing touch with reality, getting really weird, and coming to believe all kinds of counterproductive stuff that flatters their egos. It would be an even bigger problem to try to explain why Putin was immune to that dynamic after 24 years in power.
"World leaders don't shadowbox opponents out of pure stupidity" is an assumption that seems wholly ungrounded to me. Why not? World leaders do foolish things all the time on large and small scales. World leaders make mistakes. World leaders can become paranoid and out of touch--and if they lead countries without functioning electoral democracies, they can stay in power regardless. World leaders are not a magic special class of human being. They're just people. And whether it's because they're your uncle who watches nothing but OANN and Fox, or they're the President of Russia and they have yes-men and the Global Research guys telling them only what they want to hear, they can end up making absolute nonsense a load-bearing part of their worldview.
#like putin has benefited from this myth of being hyper competent and calculating for years in the west#and i just don't think that was ever true#he's not some super capable genius supervillain#he's just a run of the mill authoritarian#who was willing to placate russian elites to get what he wanted#and once in power gradually solidified his power base#in a very run of the mill fashion

played the game ok boomer at my family party today, ended up explaining to a room of ~20 of my relatives what fanfiction is so they could understand the question, âin fanfiction, what does AU stand for?â. and then the cardâs definition of âAUâ was wrong so i also had to get into the concept of âcanonâ.
can u believe. in front of my whole family. a room full of people, aged 3 to 80. all staring at me intently as i explain the difference between an alternate universe and canon divergence. at one point my mom was like âdaina i think we get itâ and a cousin and two aunts were like âwait no weâre interested please continueâ and i had to say to my own mother in front of god and my i am kenough sweatshirt âsorry but unlike you the rest of them DONâT have to listen to me talk about fanfiction on the regularâ. my uncle is a retired judge. my one cousin worked for the federal government in a job that was so classified that for years he literally couldnât legally tell us about ANYTHING he was working on. and today those men sat and patiently listened to me define âcoffee shop AUâ.
also, not one, not two, but THREE of the answers for the young folks, i knew solely because they were either plot points on stranger things or they were things i found out whilst reading stranger things fanfics. and then i was the only person in our age bracket (10 people, ranging from ages 9 to 42) that knew who anne rice was, and had to explain yet again that the reason i had this knowledge was because⌠fanfic.
it was surreal. also my aunt, aged 68, may or may not begin attempting to read fanfic now because, according to her, âthere are so many stories where there are these small side characters and iâd just KILL to hear their backstory or like what was going through their minds during the main action!â iâm very happy for her. today was wild.
#d speaks#the things i knew because of stranger things: who ripped a bats head off on stage. what year the challenger exploded. the ghostbusters theme#in case ur curious the way the game worked is there was a set of questions for people born pre 1980 and a set of questions for people born#post 1980 and you split into the two teams and you take turns reading trivia questions to each other#the questions for the young ppl were things like above - who wrote interview w a vampire#what year did the challenger explode. who are the fab four. true or false elvis had a twin.#the questions for the old people were like: what does BAE stand for. in fanfiction whatâs an AU. who won the first american idol.#it was a weird game but very educational#and funny to play with my little cousins because as i said anywhere from 2-4 of them are gen alpha depending on how u define it#so it was very interesting to see what sorts of things have been passed down culturally and what sorts of things stayed solely in their time#it was sort of reminiscent of are you smarter than a fifth grader in some ways#also no one asked but. the teams were:#old team: 4 solid boomers. 3 boomer/gen x cuspers. 3 gen xâers.#young team: 2 xennial cusps. 2 millennials. 1 zillennial cusp. 1 zoomer. 2 zalpha cusp. 2 gen alphas#and then also our 3 year old cousin who technically is gen alpha but he was more moral support than anything you understand#though at one point he DID declare that he wanted to play - picked up a card and âreadâ:#âsanta comes he eats the milk and cookies. poop goes in the pottyâ in the EXACT cadence of someone asking a trivia question lmfao#love that kid. he also told me a few knock knock jokes#mainly they were like. knock knock. whoâs there. candy cane. candy cane who. candy cane on your head!!!!!!!!#a true comedic genius that boy

Can we see more of Jadekat and their 612 babies...do they have any names besides Jadekat jr jr jr
i dont think theyre that creative to come up with any other names for their kids
though the image is inaccurate! its actually 613 kids (due to the one karkats holding in the photo) that ones name is jadekat jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr jr
#jadekat#argt#though one of the kids name is tibet (as in the rose)#the joke is that one is the one that looks the most like karkat and white roses represent the cancer zodiac... and jade likes gardening....#boom. Genius#i made that up on the spot. not the fact (IT IS TRUE!!!) .. the fanchild#ok if im being honest IM not creative enough to come up with any other names#their 612 ... 613.. kids are very hard to handle and karkat is usually the one dealing with them#imagine being a casual citizen on earth c and you see a troll with more than 612.. 613 kids just being dragged across->#->with those small leashes parents put on their kids to keep them in place. but like it doesnt work for karkat in this situation because->#its more than 100 kids. hes going to be flug across the street if those kids all got interested in one thing at the same time#jade and karkat arent the âgirlboss and malewifeâ dynamic no its the girl who has baby fever and the male who is like a->#overworked cigarette mom#but he wouldnt smoke#they have kids... if he was smoking jade would kill him for that .....#ok but back on the names like the first 2 ones were given original names and by kid 27 they started the 'jadekat jr' shit#âwhy didnt they stop by kid ..5..â baby fever

hmm.
the afton kids having complicated methods of hiding information or contraband from william.
#especially true for family business au but he def goes thru their stuff in canon as well#he has all those cameras for fuck's sake#forget a journal with a lock. elizabeth in particular probably goes to the library and finds ways to encode information#so that it looks entirely innocent. like in drawings even#mike and evan def hide stuff too but my take on libby is that she's a kid genius so she's prob the most sophisticated#evan probably has the best hiding places for himself and mike hides objects more#i can also see him being a visual learner who has to draw and write to figure out ideas#but if he didn't want william to see he'd do it by scratching in the dirt or with soap on a window or smth he could easily wash away later#fnaf#cw abuse#afton siblings#afton kids#michael afton#evan afton#cc afton#elizabeth afton#william afton

I honestly feel a lot better about having posted anything at AO3, even things I won't finish, and there's something that warms my heart about posting fic for The Borgias in 2024.
I was actually deciding between two different WIPs to represent that "phase" between my undergrad years and grad school. The other one was the prologue to a Legend of Korra/Star Wars fusion in which Noatak/Amon is Korra's father and this is revealed in S1 (I think it was going to be Tarrlok who figures it out first, lol) and it actually affects the plot and it isn't just the LOK canon plot with minor adjustmentsâthe fusion with SW was meant to be more than vague I-am-your-father inspiration. In any case, I only ever wrote the prologue about the Noatak/Senna quasi-romance that led to Korra's existence and never even got to the sheer comedy of Korra as Tarrlok's niece :(
But the Juan and Lucrezia as dysfunctional twins one-shot is closer to being a whole fic (in a side-story way) and I did like being able to add one more to my Borgias oeuvreâand getting at least some part of that AU on AO3 after all the time I spent on it!
#anghraine babbles#fic talk#i don't think senna actually ends up with tonraq in the au so there's no easy I Have A Real Dad option#and korra grows up knowing that her parents spent a genuinely wonderful year together before a ship he was in tragically sank#(this is not actually noatak's fault - he'd actually disembarked and chosen to disappear before the shipwreck happened#and just appreciated the convenience of it effectively covering his tracks after he'd made the 'mistake' of getting attached to senna#who fully believes he was in the shipwreck and is very dead)#so korra's heard all these (true!) stories of how cool the 22-y-o charismatic super waterbender noatak seemed to senna#meanwhile tarrlok discovers just who her father was and is like 'ok she's DEFINITELY getting the satomobile. but for different reasons')#the publishing au is actually incredibly involved (it's the bay area borgias fic as well!) but just focusing on juan and lucrezia#made it more possible to compress into a reasonably sized one-shot#in reality i wrote about the kids in school and how rodrigo bulldozed into their lives when their much older brother luis tragically died#vanozza is the second of his various ex-wives. also i included an adriana del milĂ expy even though it's very much borgias fic bc i love he#and yes she /is/ still the mother-in-law of the giulia expy :D#lucrezia ended up getting moved ahead a year from juan and joins cesare in befriending The New Kid#miguel aka micheletto - who thus is a high school friend of theirs and has complicated feelings about everything#but never forgot that teenage cesare and lucrezia stood by him when he was involuntarily outed in their school c. 2002.#lucrezia is the most obvious nepo baby of the company but actually fantastic at marketing while cesare is the creative one#but rodrigo has convinced himself that juan is the creative genius bc he(r) likes him(j) best and obviously has infallible judgment#but yeah it dovetails into the bay area au in which the alfonso d'aragona expy is lucrezia's boyfriend al from pleasanton#he doesn't like her living in the house her family owns outright in oakland for reasons he never manages to explain!)#political shenanigans and codependent siblings#avatar: the legend of korra
