The moon peeks through the curtains, casting a calming white light that paints shifting shapes on your creaky apartment floor. The only sounds filling your apartment are the distant sound of passing cars and Joseph’s steady breathing beside you.

Your eyes drift over to his form, tracing the outline of his being. He’s sleeping on his side, face mushed into the pillows, a heavy arm draped over your waist . You've never noticed how long his eyelashes are until now.

He shifts, eyebrows knitting together before his eyes gently peek open.

You contemplate pretending to be asleep, but it’s too late—his eyes flutter fully open, meeting yours. Your cheeks warm, caught in the act of watching him sleep for who knows how long.

He doesn’t mention it.

“You okay?”

His voice is deeper than usual, thick with sleep as he rubs his eyes and looks at you.

Your fingers grasp at a nearby blanket, fiddling with the fabric absently as you search for the right words.

He scans your face when you don’t answer, dark eyes scanning yours. He lets out a soft huff, his eyes softening when he finds what he’s looking for.

“Nightmare?” He asks gently

You hum, nodding your head as memories of the grim scenes replayed over your glossy eyes. Over, and over again.

The arm around your waist tightens, pulling you closer. His chest is warm against your cheek, a comforting contrast to the cool air drifting through the open window.

His heartbeat fills your ear, drumming softly as his chest rose and fell. Has he always been this warm?

“You don’t have to talk about it,” he whispers.

You burrow deeper into his chest, trying to hide the greedy intakes of his scent—ashy cigarettes, leather, and summer air—a scent you could happily lose yourself in.

A rough hand dips into your hair, curling around the base of your head and cupping it gently. The warmth bleeds through your scalp, cascading down your body in waves as you fight the urge to shiver. He pets at your scalp, blunt fingernails gently scratching skin. It’s almost overwhelming—the scent of him, the warmth he radiates, how he makes you feel cared for so effortlessly. It’s addicting how easily he loves you.

I know the one you’re referring to! This should be it, it’s from a vendor in the Grand Bazaar:

I didn’t mention this in the essay because of it being speculatory, but I’m more than ready to speculate here. I agree, this is most likely an inference to Alhaitham, not only considering his status as a Mahamata but also due to the fact that it’s an integral part of Alhaitham’s character that he prefers to be unknown. Even when he serves as the Acting Grand Sage, people don’t typically recognise him due to how little known he is despite his primary role as the Grand Scribe, as seen in his story quest. This would align with why the vendor admittedly has no idea who this particular customer was.

Drinking, particularly wine, can also relate to both Kaveh and Alhaitham, as this is an activity they both partake in together. Alhaitham’s voice-lines express that he likes to have a drink after work, along with his demo showing him drinking wine with Kaveh, Cyno and Tighnari, and him apparently stealing Kaveh’s beer in A Parade of Providence. Similarly, Kaveh also states his preference for drinking in his voice-lines, as well as his overindulgence in this hobby being highlighted in his hangout. Additionally, the furniture item ‘Monthly Frustration Be-Gone’ references Kaveh buying expired wine in order to get a discount.

Since this is an NPC conversation, it’s also worth noting other external worldbuilding details, such as the bulletin boards of Sumeru. In the three exchanges Alhaitham and Kaveh have, all of them reference drinking in some way, in that Alhaitham typically indulges Kaveh by paying for his tabs – revoking this only when they have a disagreement. Lambad also notes that Alhaitham and Kaveh go drinking together, as well as Kaveh picking up wine ordered by Alhaitham.

Alhaitham buying wine for Kaveh to make up for some disagreement between the two aligns with all these established details. When considering the typical exchange of Alhaitham refusing to pay for Kaveh’s drinks when Kaveh disagrees with Alhaitham’s views, it makes sense that it would also work in reverse – as in, when Alhaitham trespasses on Kaveh’s views which leads to Kaveh’s upset, Alhaitham would buy him drinks to make up for it

Alongside this, character description wise, there is no other convincing contender as to who else this could be? Alhaitham uses the tall male model, and is the only tall, relevant member of the Mahamata that the player is aware of.

Given all these context clues the game gives us, I’d say, yeah, this is our resident loser Alhaitham!!

Ok so if u follow my art blog u may have seen me talk about my eggson au. Well I'm not gonna be talking about that rn LOL

Another idea that's been festering for a while and I really actually want to write is smth I've dubbed "swap au" in my head. Basically due to some Eggman shenanigans, a future version of modern Shadow (34, married to Sonic) ends up swapping places with boom Shadow (19, tried to blow up the world a few months ago). No one is happy about this.

I don't have a concrete plot yet, but I just love the ideas of a Shadow who has mellowed out and knows his place in the world interacting with a younger Sonic who finds the publicity of being a hero uncomfortable, AND a Shadow who has never had the support of friends like Rouge and Omega discover that actually he has likeable qualities and his company can be enjoyable to others. I also have some ideas for boom Shadow's backstory, which is... very different to his game counterpart's fjfhddg

Also the two Shadows meeting the other versions of Tails and being like "haha how are you so small"/"YOU'RE SO TALL???" respectively... there's just a LOT of fun interactions this concept brings up and I rotate them in my mind daily

(in hindsight he figures maybe he should know by now not to tempt fate like that.) it’s quiet for a good while, after she tells him. drops it on the metalhead like it doesn’t shatter him all the way down into the deep recesses of his chest the way she says it: among the noise of crickets and croaks and whatever other woodland creatures might decide to make themselves an audience for the night.

if he’s perfectly honest-- he’s not sure what brought this on. but he figures he owes her his attention at the very least, so he straightens up and releases the last bit of smoke from his lips, “uh, you’ll have to forgive me cunningham. not exactly in top shape right now, so m’sort of scramblin’ here,” he tries for a joke, even if he winces feeling like it’s already fallen flat. “sorry. uh, whatever it is-- i’ll make it right--”
