would like to add: just bc someone disagrees with your takes or has different takes than you, doesn't mean it warrants retaliation :)
Tumblr media
free my boy yes he did that shit but also a huge part of sanders sides is about the fact that no one is 100% good or 100% bad its never that simple and we all contain multitudes as well as the capacity to harm others even without meaning to 🗣🗣
#reminder that you can like or dislike whatever characters u want for whatever reasons you want#i cannot stop you from thinking patton is evil. i just dont agree#its chill. we r all just here 2 have fun#idek if this is that much of a commonly held belief anymore??? but it definitely was back in the day#<- op tags#yeah i see what op means#for me - i just have mixed/complicated views on Patton's character (think shades of grey for a baseline of what I mean)#he's a three-dimensional character learning how to break away from the black-and-white mindset and heal and figure his own shit out#<- my take on him at least#i can see where both sides of “he's evil” and “he's innocent” are generally coming from (even if i don't agree w/ 'em fully)#the “he's evil” takes want to point out his flaws and have them addressed and not ignored#the “he's innocent” takes want to point out mistakes are human & he's a good person & he's a funny lil guy#i think both have good points - they just may take it too far in some regards#obviously duh you can hate him or love him or have mixed views on him#he's a fictional character with grey all over (he literally has a grey hoodie around his shoulders but that's a discussion for later)#grey morals is my take on him i guess#he does some unfair shit - yes#it's under the mindset of not realizing “oh this is more harmful than good” bc it's a part of a mindset that's been ingrained in him#healing from unhealthy mindsets & improving on your own behaviors is a lot and it's fuckin' hard especially first starting out#okay i digressed a bit sorry#POINT IS: hate on him or love on him all ya want! he's a fictional character so have at it!#<- just have a lil reminder he's intended (and shown) as three dimensional & /both/ views of “good” or “bad” have some valuable insight#i'll say it again: just bc someone disagrees with your takes or has different takes than you doesn't mean it warrants retaliation :)#ngl i think i forgot what i was trying to say - sorry if it's all jumbled in ramblin'#ANYWAY#patton sanders#sanders sides#sasi art

From the Air - A Logangstamatic by Orb Manson
A little more animation than last time, but probably should still be called an animatic at most...
My "logangstamatic" project consists of about 26 different short animations and animatics (and maybe a lyric video or two), in each one, I take a song that reminds me of Logan from Sanders Sides and animate a short section of it in a different way!
The idea is to give a tiny taste of the type of work I want to do, when I someday have better means and the actual time and dedication to give to such projects, haha.
For more information on the full project, go here!
This one features the song "From the Air" by Laurie Anderson, and was animated by me by drawing and creating a bunch of paper doll versions of the characters (most dressed in costumes) as well as creating a paper theater and seats and props and stage setting, then using basic stop-motion techniques to create more of a photo montage of sorts of the story progressing, and used tissue paper to simulate fire. Everything was shot on my phone and then edited in the inShot app.
This song was chosen mainly because I have been a fan of Laurie Anderson's unique music for a very long time, and I originally wanted to do something for "O Superman" from the same album, but I felt this song fit Logan and his thought process way better, especially with how things are going for him currently in the series (and are bound to keep going at this rate).
I don't know why, but when listening to this song while thinking of Logan, I vividly imagined the words being spoken not by a pilot as a plane was crashing, but rather a stage manager watching everything unravel behind the scenes of a doomed stage play and once a spark sets the curtain aflame, he begins giving instructions on what to do, taking charge to clear things out but not once bothering to fight the flames, knowing no one would listen to what he has to say anyway, and eventually even revelling in how this is one of the only ways he can regain control of this unending stage of drama...
The storyboard was drawn almost instantly, haha, it just took a lot longer to find time to make all the pieces and then get it all put together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like the other video, I'd love to someday animate this whole song in a similar manner, preferably with a better camera and better software so it comes out more presentable and with way more animation on display. I was very limited in what I could accomplish with this, so if given the chance, I'd love to do it again but better.
I already have a few more of these other animatics and animations in progress, so stay tuned for those coming soon. As I said, there will be 26 in total!
If you liked this, please let me know with a like or a comment! It is greatly appreciated!!

Lyrics Used In This Video:
Good evening
This is your captain
We are about to attempt a crash landing
Please extinguish all cigarettes
Place your tray tables in their upright, locked position
Your captain says:
Put your head on your knees
Your captain says:
Put your head in your hands
Captain says:
Put your hands on your head
Put your hands on your hips
Heh heh
This is your captain
And we are going down
We are all going down
Together
And I said "uh oh"
This is gonna be some day
Standby
This is the time
And this is the record of the time
This is the time
And this is the record of the time

Sanders Sides ship pet name head cannons!!
Ships included: Prinxiety, Mociet, and Intrulogical!
Mociet: They have baking themed pet names! Patton's most consistent pet names for Janus are apple tart or lemon tart, though there was one time he was semi-flustered and accidentally refured to Janus as honey drizzled wine and that was the moment Janus realised that he was in love. Janus's consistent pet name for Patton is angel slice, and it never fails to make Patton into a stuttering mess.
Intrulogical: Remus's pet names for Logan are as you'd expect, Lo-Lo, Logie-bear, Lo-llipop, all that, and he uses those pet names all the time. Logan, on the other hand, has only one pet name for Remus, and it's very rarely used, only really when Remus is upset or within very intimate moments, and that pet name is "my darkest desire". If you want an artist rendition of something like that, @logan-the-artist already did one after I requested it. it's adorable.
Prinxiety: Roman's pet names for Virgil are again as you'd expect, stormcloud, my dark and stormy knight, my chemically imbalanced romance, you get the picture. Virgil's pet names for Roman, however, are way more meaningful. The first one is "little songbird." This one is specifically used when Virgil's feeling a bit competitive, like "let's see how well you can do this little songbird." He's usually being quite flirty with that one, mainly to throw Roman off his game, and it always works. The other one is "my wishing star," and this one is the most meaningful one and Virgil generally uses it in quite intimate situations where he wants to remind Roman just how much he means to him.
What do you think? I hope you enjoy today's info dump! Fairwell!
*fades back into a starburst*
These are so cute!!! Sorry it's been taking me so long to answer.
I love these!

Sanders Sides predictions!! (On my burner account just in case anyone takes this too seriously) this is just for fun, don't sue me. (Includes all characters... Uhh in some form, there is no violence except threatened and I do realize at least some of it could never happen due to being too complicated to film in an apartment.) It starts very vague and then gets to dialogue for the really good part. DLDR
The video starts with Thomas. He's really struggling to put together a video. Logan immediately jumps to the opportunity to talk about the healthy schedule he proposed. Patton is summoned pretty early (pops up for a pun) but after he stays uncharacteristically quiet. When he's pushed, he admits he'd rather be quiet than wrong.
Logan assumes it's an anxiety problem then and summons Virgil. Who, for some reason, is avoiding Thomas like the plague. He tells them he has nothing to do with it, which immediately calls up Janus. Virgil leaves asap. Janus explains that, actually, he's not here because of Virgil, he's here to watch what Remus is about to do. Turns out Remus has been walking around all excited about this new change in process that's supposed to happen today and since he wasn't in his room, Janus figured he would find him up here. But there's no Remus.
Janus also looks confused as to why nobody went to get Roman. Logan admits he still doesn't like him very much and would have preferred if he stayed out of the picture for what is clearly a Patton related problem, because Patton is very soft spoken right now and Roman would just talk over him like he always does (and he had plenty screentime in the last video anyway). Both Thomas and Patton feel too bad about last time to talk to him first. But alright, if it will help the case, we'll summon him... Exept he doesn't show up. Thomas isn't scared, he's got complete creative block.
Roman must've ducked out.
They decide pretty quickly that they should go to his room (at least once Janus reminds everyone that they don't know where Remus is and what he could do if he's alone with Roman)
So they get into his room.. but it's dark. There are torches on the walls, beautiful paintings of Prince Roman, slaying the Dragon Witch, slaying on the stage, royal portraits of him and Mrs Snuffles. A single painting of two young boys, playing together in the garden, one dressed in black and one dressed in white.. And there's a throne.
"Well well, look who decided to finally show up." A man gets up from the throne. His voice sounds ice cold. And as he steps down into the light of the torches, they turn green. And they see a man with a big crown, worthy of a king, with a white streak in his hair and a sword by his side.
Janus looks like he'd just seen a ghost. "We have to leave. Right now. This isn't safe for any of us"
"Awwwh, Janus," the man before them slips into a Remus-like voice, walking closer and closer"don't spoil the fun." His voice turns cold once again. "You know.. I've been thinking about what you said to me last time we met. That I'm just the same as my brother. That we're both evil and cruel.. and it hurt me. It hurt me very very deeply," he grabs Janus by the cape. Others try to help him but he dismisses them. "I never wanted to leave my room again, how much it hurt. I couldn't believe you would say something like that... Something so.. true. I was too blind to see it before, but you were right. I am just as bad, as my brother is. And if I'm just as bad.. there's no reason to stay split apart."
Logan finally gets between him and Janus. He lets him go willingly. "Falsehood. You all have your own specific purposes in this system. So please, Roman-" a deep chuckle interrupts him
"Roman? Oh, haha, no. Roman's dead now. Me and my brother are one once again, no prince, no duke, but King. No Roman. No Remus. I am King Romulus, and you will address me as such. Now, get out of my room. Before I feed you to Mrs. Sniffles."
Behind the throne, a large plume of smoke emerges.
"Well, that ain't a cat" Patton is still quiet, staring down a giant silhouette of a dragon witch rising up.

thinking about the moment janus finally breaks. he's convinced himself that he doesn't need to be liked by the others, that he's alright being hated, as long as he's able to do his job. but it has to weigh on him. it has to erode at him slowly, through the years, resentment building. he keeps a tally of the times he's protected thomas on his wall, to remind himself of why he keeps going despite never once being thanked. his form of protection is seen as immoral, his defenses misinterpreted as attacks on thomas' moral code. every other side casts him in the role of the villain, as some outside force of evil, instead of an integral part of thomas' mind.
that has to weigh on him.
i imagine he was born sometime after the twins, around the same time as patton, since they are two sides of a coin. selfishness and selflessness. self-preservation and morality. the side that protects thomas first and foremost and the side that protects thomas' integrity and morals.
they clashed from the start, but with every lie thomas told to protect himself, the rift grew larger and larger, patton's guilt grew stronger and stronger, until eventually he began to reject janus as a part of thomas at all. and the others followed suit.
janus was the first dark side, the first side of thomas that the others couldn't accept. which meant that he was cast out alone, young, probably no older than 12, into an empty space. he started keeping a tally. a tally, just for himself. a torn off paper from a notebook, a single pencil. to keep track of every time he saved thomas. protected thomas. kept thomas safe. slowly, the wall filled out. drawings of thomas. lists of things thomas likes. lists of things thomas could do to calm down when stressed.
but thomas didn't know him. the others were keeping him locked up there, in his own room of darkness, he grew bitter and resentful.
everything that happened happens, and everyone expects him to just move on from the years of rejection and ungratefulness.
and one day, he just breaks.
one last comment from a well-meaning patton, one last "he's trying to manipulate you" at thomas, and suddenly janus is screaming and sobbing, "why won't you listen to me? why does no one ever listen to me? i'm a part of him too, i'm not working against you, i'm not your enemy, i love him, i've always loved him. i just want to help him. i want to protect him. that's all. that's all i've ever wanted."
and there's a moment of silence, of confusion. janus disappears into his room.
they find him in the corner, by the pages. there must be hundreds of them by now. lists of likes, dislikes, triggers, comforts. a tally reaching over the original page, now filling the wall next to it instead. self-care guides personalized for thomas. ineffective defense mechanisms crossed out, effective ones circled. an entire and extensive guide to taking care of thomas sanders, built through the years with incredible care and affection, a monument to janus' love for thomas.
and that's when the others realize, all at once, that thomas probably would not be alive right now if it weren't for janus.
one after the other, they reach out to touch him. to hold him. for the first time taking him into their arms as one of their own. their deceit. their self-preservation. he's exhausted to the point of not reciprocating the touch in any way, but his eyes are closed and his muscles relax, he lets his body be held and loved as he weeps out the rest of his resentment into their arms. finally accepted.
but the most important touch is thomas' own. he reaches out, after a moment's hesitation, to hold janus' face in his hands. he stares into his eyes, finally understanding this part of himself for what it is. he pulls him into a gentle kiss, not romantic, just comfort. again, and again, and again, as he whispers what janus has wanted to hear all this time "thank you, thank you, thank you. i love you. you're mine. i love you. please stay. please be a part of me forever."

Relationship Map for The Blood That Binds- A Sanders Sides X Vampire the Masquerade AU
There's a title now!!! From now on, posts under this project be titled and tagged with The Blood That Binds.
2 weeks ago I posted a poll asking if people would like to see Character Profiles or a Relationship Map first. The results showed a majority rule for the Relationship Map, which I am sharing today! But! I will be uploading the Character Profiles as well some time between now and the publishing of Chapter 1 (which I do still plan to release on Halloween).
Anyway, I've rambled enough- HERE'S THE MAP
Tumblr media
So I know this is an absolute mess to look at so let me further explain how it's set up. Each character has their own color (I am aware of the shade similarity between Patton/Logan and Roman/Thomas but I genuinely couldn't think what other colors to use). The symbols next to most characters are their Clan Symbol- which I will further explain in the Character Profiles.
Characters connected by solid lines have interacted directly at least once. Characters connected by arrows have not interacted, but will interact in the beginnings of the tale. Below the cut, I've included some further explanations of the relationships.
Patton and Virgil
This is the dynamic that made me want to write this story in the first place. In this AU, Patton is Virgil's biological father. Through a misfortune that will be explained later on, Patton became a vampire when Virgil was still a baby (late 90s). Virgil grew up in the city believing his father to have passed away, all while Patton has been silently observing him from the shadows. At the time where our story takes place, Virgil has returned to the city after a little over 6 years away. And Patton is going to have a totally normal and rational reaction to seeing his son again.
Roman and Thomas
I knew I wanted to toy around with the supernatural power dynamic of a Sire Bond. And I knew I wanted Thomas specifically to be someone's Sire. In the context of the story, Roman was once Thomas' love, and was given the gift of immortality as a means to stay together forever. Thomas himself was still quite new to vampirism, and he quickly grew to regret making Roman. In the modern day, Roman is more like a lackey to Thomas. Following his beck and call in hopes of earning his favor once again. It has been over 70 years, and still Roman very much has the desperate hero vibes about him.
Roman and Virgil
Roman has spotted Virgil, and where the story picks up, he's beginning to close in. The only issue is he can't decide what exactly he'll do once he gets close to Virgil. He could make him a mindless Blood Slave. He could string him out as a forlorn lover. He could recruit him to his vampiric faction, as either a Bonded Ghoul or a fledgling vampire. His decision will drastically reform the dynamics of all those around him. But he's a little too lovestruck to realize the potential damage he could cause.
Logan and Patton
A healthy relationship?? In my toxic vampire romance? Yes, actually. Logan found Patton as a terrified fledgling who'd been abandoned by his Sire. Having roughly two decades of vampiric knowledge to rely on, Logan was quick to lend his talents to guide Patton. It became rather apparent that Patton did not take well to vampirism, and Logan's levelheadedness eased him into his new existence. In the modern nights, the two are inseparable. This is mostly at Patton's request, as he begins to grow paranoid in Logan's absence.
Janus and Remus
Janus is power-hungry and Remus is easily controlled. Janus has a few years of seniority over Remus, which he is quick to remind him of. Remus is also the only character who is beginning the story already Blood Bound. He has been Janus' thrall for since the 80s, and after spending over 30 years unbound, he just feels grateful to be noticed. He thinks being close to Janus gets him closer to Roman gets him closer to the command and power he truly craves. He views his Bond as a necessary evil. Janus views it as a means of controlling a scary guard dog.
Janus and Thomas
These two are both members of the Inner Circle, a sort of Sect within the Sect of the Camarilla. Those in the Inner Circle often interact directly with the Prince of the city (or whoever is in command) as well as following out any jurisdiction placed by the Prince. Janus and Thomas entered the Camarilla at roughly the same time, as well as being welcomed to the Inner Circle during the same night of Elysium. Their specific roles within the inner circle will be explained later.
Janus has always viewed Thomas as a potential adversary, believing that their power and influence combined could be immensely beneficial to the Camarilla. Thomas, on the other hand, is extremely jealous of Janus. He believes that their parallel rise to power is building up to an ultimate showdown where one of them will be forced to overtake the other. And he does not intend for Janus to have the advantage.
Remus and Logan
Remus has a 20 year advantage on Logan. At the time of their meeting, they were both strays who were not bound to any vampiric Sect. Remus viewed Logan as a fellow outcast, someone with skill and poise that could prove a useful asset in his major goals. Logan viewed himself as superior to Remus, believing his pragmatic approach to vampirism made him more appealing. They had a messy breakup, to put it lightly, and neither of them have made any attempt to reconnect.
Roman and Remus
These two are still canonically twin brothers. There's a lot to explain, which I will cover in better detail in each of their Character Profiles. But to summarize here: Roman became a vampire first, and has believed Remus to have passed away after being deployed during WWII. However, Remus did return home after the war, and had heard whispers of his brother joining a "secret society". Efforts to find Roman ultimately lead to Remus becoming a vampire himself. Rather than wallow over what had become his fate, Remus has instead spent the last few decades working to use his abilities as a means of finding Roman and taking all that he is.
Characters who have NOT interacted together!
Patton and Roman
Logan and Roman
Logan and Janus
Janus and Patton
Janus and Roman
Remus and Patton
Remus and Thomas
Logan and Thomas
Virgil and EVERYBODY
I believe that covers everything for now. My goal is to have a Character Profile posted every Friday between now and Halloween, and then posting Chapter One on Halloween as a way to enjoy the spooky evening. As always, if you wish to be tagged in this project, reply on this post or send me a DM.
Tag List: @sethlost @thearomanticsnake
Above board for a moment, I do want to thank everyone who has been encouraging this story. It's been a long while since I've written any major works, and I'm really excited to be worldbuilding again. So just- thanks for the kind words and the sharing and the support. Its really means a lot <3

Friendly Neighborhood Criminals Part 2
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Pairings: platonic Patton/Dark Sides
Summary: Patton spent most of his life praying. This is the first time anyone's answered.
In other words, the friendly neighborhood criminals are there to save the day once again.
Ao3 Link: click here
Part 1
A/N Notes: This part is entirely inspired by a comment left by DnDeceit (Hazgarn) from Ao3. Thank you for the awesome idea and hope you enjoy! If anyone else has ideas for this AU, hit me up and I may write them!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patton sits at the bus stop waiting for a bus that is over forty minutes late.
Miraculously, he has not run into this scenario since he moved to the city. The busses have been fairly reliable until now. They're his main mode of transportation to get to and from work. It would take a couple hours to walk otherwise. While manageable, the problem is that...
It's pitch black outside.
Patton hugs himself on the rickety bench and tries not to peer too closely into any shadowed corners. He typically doesn't take the late shift for this reason; he hates the dark. Whenever his mom got mad at him or just didn't want to look at his face, she would lock him in a closet without light. She'd tell him to pray about what he had done, to ask for forgiveness. Patton never knew what he had done in those instances, but he prayed hard and apologized for hours and told God he would be better so he didn't bother his parents so much.
The night reminds him too much of that tight space, and buying a night light for the apartment is one of the few luxuries he afforded himself.
Thankfully, a streetlight buzzed above him. Things could be much worse! His manager even apologized to him for asking him to come in on his off day! If Patton hadn't, he would have left Joan to close the store all by themself, and that would have been rough. Besides, Patton can use the extra hours! And working with Joan is always fun. They made Patton laugh and sometimes bought him snacks! And when they had locked up and walked into the parking lot earlier, they had offered to give him a ride.
Patton refused, of course! That had been far too generous, and Patton didn't want to make Joan drive him around when they were clearly tired. Patton could catch the last bus and things would be okay.
But things are not so okay, and there are no more busses scheduled until morning. If Patton left now, he would have to make the trek home. In the dark.
Just thinking about it has his throat seizing up.
Patton wishes he could be like normal people and call his family up in this situation. That his dad could give him a ride, or that he had a sibling who would speed over in a heartbeat. Or even friends.
He does have friends though! Well, one friend mostly. Her name is Valerie and they went to high school together. She moved out of Florida after graduation, so they never really see each other in person anymore. But she's always a text away and she's been so supportive of Patton moving out and cutting off his folks and–
And Patton wishes she could be here, but she's not.
Patton sits on the bench as if waiting for something to magically happen. He groans to himself and pulls out his phone. It's refurbished and a way older model, but it gets the job done just fine. Maybe he can distract himself for a bit and text her. She's probably asleep by now, but he can send her a joke or a meme–
There are new contacts in his phone that were not there before.
Patton rechecks his phone several times because surely this is an error. But no, there are three new contacts where before there had only been his best friend, store manager, and landlord.
Janus
Thing 1
Thing 2
Beyond baffled, Patton racks his brain for when the contacts could have possibly been added. It wasn't him of course, so one of his new...acquaintances must have done it. Ever since they brought him furniture and groceries, they have visited Patton again a total of twice. Each time, they brought him things from shampoo to a microwave. And then they would shove take out into his arms and order him to eat it.
It's...the most aggressive kindness Patton has ever been subjected to. And quite frankly, he doesn't know how to respond to it other than submit. Remus told him it's easier that way anyway.
Patton doesn't know what to make of the well-to-do criminals. And they are criminals, there's no doubt about it. They don't try to censor themselves around Patton. Last time, Patton listened reservedly while Remus recounted a story of lighting a dumpster on fire in order to distract some cops on their tail.
And they laughed and it wasn't at Patton. Virgil would tell Remus off when he overwhelmed Patton with gross details, and Janus– good grief could he write a novel about that man. Well, about all three of then really, but Janus had been the most aggressively kind. Patton can hardly say two words to the man because he can't figure out if he's mad at Patton, the world, or just in general. And he'd do it all while calling Patton pet names, and Virgil would grin and say, "I'm so glad someone else is getting the Janus treatment."
They aren't bad people, not really.
But can Patton call them like this? What would he say? Worse, how on earth could he ask for more of them?
Then maybe just to talk? Not Janus, the man intimidates him too much. But which one is Thing 1 and 2? Was it Janus who snuck the contacts into his phone? Surely it incriminates him if he is the only one with a proper name.
Just then, the light above him flickers and goes out, bathing him in blindness.
Patton does not panic.
He skyrockets straight to losing his mind.
The phone light is not enough to stop his hyperventilating. He stands up, ready to flee, but to where? Into the same darkness enveloping him now? There are distant lights further up the street, more store outlets, but they are fuzzy and far away and Patton's legs quake where he stands. Tears sting his eyes, and his chest squeezes tight enough to make his shoulders hunch inward.
He can't do it, he's weak.
Fumbling, he pulls up the phone and presses one of the Thing contacts. He doesn't know which one, doesn't care. What he cares about is someone saving him right now. Please open the door, he wants out, please–
"City morgue, you kill 'em, we chill 'em," a nasally voice chatters in his ear. Patton doesn't even remember hearing the phone ring or pressing the dial button.
"Remus?!" Patton says, stricken.
Remus catches onto his tone immediately. From the handful of times he has been around the man, he had only ever presented himself with a dramatic, unhinged flair. He grinned without abandon, and he honestly made Patton giggle a time or two.
Now, the gravelly tone of a dangerous man takes over. "Pat?"
"Remus," Patton pleads. He doesn't know exactly what he's begging for. He just wants to be okay now. He wants it to stop.
"Where are you, Pat?"
"B-bus stop, corner of Cherry Ridge Avenue and– and– by, I don't know, I'm by the– the State Farm office? I think. I think–"
"That's okay, Pattycake, you stay right there. I'll find you, I'm coming."
Patton keens and nods his head, though Remus can't see him. He stays on the phone with Patton too, cursing occasionally at something on the other side and rushing to ease Patton with gentle assurances whenever he whimpers into the phone too loudly.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," Remus tells him, and Patton believes him.
By the time a revving motor breaks the night, Patton has curled up against the side of the bus stop awning in a poor attempt to make himself as small as possible. He flinches when a singular headlamp spills over him, and he momentarily freaks out upon recognizing that someone is driving a motorcycle straight at him. But Remus's voice is in his ear, yelling over the roaring that it's him, that he sees him.
He's here.
Remus drives the bike right onto the sidewalk and doesn't bother pushing down the kickstand. He lets the bike list sideways to the ground as he scrambles off, one hand barely hanging onto his phone in his rush.
Seeing him is the biggest relief Patton's ever experienced. More than the day he signed the apartment lease. Because someone finally answered his prayers to save him.
Patton finds the strength to stand and barrels into Remus's chest. He meets him halfway, using the momentum to spin them and he clutches Patton against the front of his leather jacket.
"Are you hurt? Did someone hurt you? I'll fucking kill them!" Remus snarls.
Patton answers the only way he can, by breaking down into sobs. Remus can't get any details after that. He runs his hands up and down Patton's back and arms looking for injuries. When he doesn't find any, he just keeps on rubbing his back to soothe him.
"I got you, I got you. I'm not going anywhere, Pattycake."
It's rough. It's exhausting. It's tears and snot and frightened little hiccups.
It's everything to Patton that Remus holds him throughout.
When Patton is calm enough that he's only sniffling now, Remus pulls back and takes his face in his hands. Remus's hands are calloused and blisteringly warm. They contrast with the cool metal of the rings he wears.
"Want me to take you home?"
Patton can't speak, but he gives a tiny whine and nods his head, bleary-eyed and spent.
The ride back to his apartment is a blur. Remus pushes his only helmet over Patton's head and warns him multiple times not to let go of him. The leather of his jacket is a security blanket, and Patton does his best to snuggle into it. He's never rode on a motorcycle before, and he's doesn't know if it's a good or bad thing that he's not aware enough to process it. It's fast and loud, and the wind whips around them constantly. He barely keeps his eyes open and trusts Remus will get them home safe.
They pull up to his apartment quicker than he thinks possible. Remus slides off first, keeping hold of Patton's hands as he turns around in his arms. He tugs the helmet off, careful not to jostle him too badly.
"Gotta say, Pattycake, helmet hair's a good look on you." Remus is trying to make him laugh. Patton doesn't have the energy to make his facial muscles move or thank him for his kindness. The most he can do is make grabby hands at Remus.
"Oh, puffball..." Remus's expression softens. He bends down and sweeps Patton into his arms and full-on carries him to the door bridal-style. Patton knows that Remus is tall and strong, but distantly he's impressed with how easily he's lifted.
Remus nudges him and patiently waits for him to dig out his key and unlock the front door. Once inside, Remus doesn't stop in the living room. He strides to the bedroom and deposits his cargo on the mattress.
"Okay, Pat-tay. It's beddy-bye time." Remus crouches below him and tugs Patton's shoes off his feet one by one. Patton watches him silently in the glow of his nightlight plugged into the wall. After the shoes are off, he reaches up to pull Patton's glasses off. Strangely, he notes that Remus's hands are shaking. Just a little bit.
Remus covers it up with a smile and waggle of brows. "Clothes on or off?"
In response, Patton flops back on the bed. Remus chuckles and situates him more appropriately, manhandling him until he's under the sheets.
"You're gonna be okay, I swear," Remus tells him, fingers brushing the hair from his forehead. Patton sinks into the mattress, closes his eyes and drifts.
A ringing pulls him to the surface. Remus answers his phone and Patton is too content to open his eyes.
"Yeah?....Because I'm with Patton.... Because he called me.... No I will not tell you all the juicy details of our midnight tryst, what kind of gossip do you think I am?"
Patton wonders who he's talking to. Someone who knows Patton, one of the others?
"He's had a bad night," Remus says and Patton tunes back in. He missed some exchanges and Remus's tone has taken on a somber edge. "I've got him home. I'm gonna hang out with him for a while... Janny can suck it, he'd be worse than I am.... I don't know, but it was bad enough he called me. Not that I'm not an absolute gift, right?.... well you didn't have to answer that. Okay, Emotional Baggage, I'm hanging up now. Don't wait up for me."
The return to quiet pushes Patton farther under. His muscles grow lax, and Remus is doing that thing with his fingers in his hair again. Patton reaches out and pulls himself a little closer. He thinks he's holding onto a jacket sleeve. He tries to wrap himself around it.
He thinks he feels the tickle of breath at his ear, a hushed voice, "I have a feeling you're going to be the death of me. And I'm gonna like it."
Patton falls asleep.
The next morning, there's a box of donuts sitting in the middle of his bedroom floor. A notification on his phone shows he has a text.
Call me anytime ;)

A mini essay on Janus and his whole "society" speech (And the ties with third wave feminism and Audre Lorde).
Audre Lorde was the first person who coined the term 'self care'. She said, in her cancer journals, a book she wrote while battling cancer herself, that self care is an act of political warfare. As a self proclaimed poet, philosophist, lesbian, warrior, socialist and feminist, she was the first who made the point that taking care of one's self, immediately contradicts what society is nurturing us to do.
A direct quote from her is:
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
Now isn't that exactly Janus' speech in SvS? I'm not sure where Joan and Thomas got the inspiration for his character, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was from her.
Janus is self care, denial and deceit. He hates society because he understands that it immediately puts you in a disadvantage. Because society prides it's "boogey-man" more. What is the boogeyman? Laws.
"I don't want Thomas to be disadvantaged all for not following the rules made in the name of a lie"
This is what Janus said. He fears society because he understand, better than any other side, that society is based on selflessness. Society is based on putting others first. And by extension, keeps you repressed by telling you that the time will come, when your needs will be met.
However, that is a lie. That's why self care is an act of political warfare. And that's why it's so dangerous to completely misunderstand the word self care to mean indulgence instead of preservation. That's why, when we practice self care, we should uphold our personal needs as a community higher than the "boogey-man" that is Laws. That's why Ms. Lorde moved the black feminism movement forward to the third wave.
A little tss crit, if I may:
The current characterisation of Janus isn't only very OOC (something which I hope only goes for non-canon content), but very disrespectful to the nuance that is his character.
He is a "morality fighting snake", he is a "lying fibber", but he loves Thomas. A lot of people have made the analysis of his playlist and his actions to mean just how much he wants Thomas to be safe, to be happy, so I will not go into it right now.
And even though it's safe to say that all Sides do care for Thomas, because that's their job, you can see how differently they care for him, and how Janus just does the most.
Patton, on the other hand, cares for him probably as much as Janus without actually listening to Thomas. He does what he thinks is best, based on his beliefs and not Thomas' needs. And as we've seen before (POF) this was detrimental.
So, even though I've been waiting for the season finale for 4 years, and I really hope that Mr. Sanders knows how to write his own aspects of his own personality, I want to remind the fan base who will listen, abourg the duality of Janus' character and how his "society" talk isn't just a 'funny haha' moment, but a very helpful insight into his true character and intentions.

Sanders Sides: College AU - Part 8
Part 1 | Previous Part | Read on Ao3
They lay down together, and Roman sets his head under her chin for a moment, letting himself just hold onto her. They have more in common than he ever thought.
Tumblr media
Roman has an encounter with his father and goes to Logan for comfort. Remus learns about Patton's secret.
Hi SaSi followers, this AU is back!
[CW: emotionally abusive relationship with father, that's all for this chapter]
▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸▸
Roman hardly ever sleeps in, even on the weekend. He’s always up at at least 6 a.m., working out, showering, having coffee with oat milk and caramel syrup, and then watching television until the rest of the house wakes up. He has had the same routine since early high school and he sees no reason to change it, thank you very much. He’s in the middle of preparing said coffee when Patton comes into the kitchen, rubbing their eyes. “Morning, Pat,” he sings, which earns him a sleepy chuckle and then an exaggerated groan.
“Good morning, Roman,” they yawn, moving to pour their own coffee. Roman sidesteps them to allow them room, moving into the dining room to talk to them through the doorway. “Did your workout go well?”
“Oh, without question or doubt!” he says, flexing his arm, which thankfully does show muscle so he’s not just embarrassing himself. He looks between it and Patton with a smile, and Patton claps twice softly, laughing.
“I have work todayyy,” they whine out as they pour vanilla and chocolate syrup into their mug.
“Oh, you poor baby! Come on, Pat, you really only work weekends anyhow.”
“Well, that’s easy for you to say, Mr. Allowance!”
Roman gasps in exaggerated offense. “Hey, can it!”
“No, you!”
Roman is about to retort when they're both distracted by a car pulling into their driveway. Looking at each other in confusion, they move to the window together to see a shimmering black sports car with a driver getting out. Roman feels like a knot just twisted his stomach to bits, and he swallows dryly. “Oh god, oh god, what? They didn’t tell me they were visiting any time soon, ah, my hair is still wet and the living room is a mess, oh god!” Roman goes rushing into the living room in a whirl, leaving Patton behind in anxious silence as they watch the driver open the back door.
A very tall, broadly built man with slicked back brown hair gets out from the door the driver opens, dark sunglasses nearly falling off his nose as he looks over them at the house. He’s talking on the phone, and Patton is thankful for Roman’s sake that their friend will have a moment to make things presentable. Roman scurries around in the living room shoving things into crates or drawers to get them out of sight, he doesn’t have time to actually clean. As he goes, he meticulously adjusts his hair so that as much of the white streak is covered by his other hair as he can manage, reminding himself to breathe since he suddenly seems to be forgetting how. Eventually, his father knocks on the door, his typical shave-and-a-haircut pattern which Roman completes the rhythm of on the inner side before opening the door while contorting his face into the most pleasantly surprised face he can manage.
“Dad! You didn’t tell me you were, uh, stopping by!”
His father laughs, scratching his chin and grinning. “Mijo! Come give dad a hug, huh, what’s gotten into you? Too old for that now or something?”
“Oh- pff- no, of course not,” Roman sputters awkwardly, letting his father wrap his arms around him. He smells like cigar smoke and one of his many overly expensive colognes. He pats his son’s back, but doesn’t linger.
As he pulls back, he begins to mess with Roman’s hair, tutting as he tucks the white even further away. “I was in the area for work and thought I might stop by. That won’t be an issue. Right, Roman?” He peers at him over his sunglasses, smiling even though his eyes glint with a test for resistance.
“Oh, no, no that’s not an issue, papa.” Roman looks at the ground, stepping to the side to let his dad enter before him. He steps into the doorway, brown leather shoes clicking on the hardwood as he takes in the house he pays for.
“Mijo, it’s such a mess in here. You know I wanted to hire you a cleaner, you college kids are all the same. Probably having giant parties every weekend, hm?”
“No, dad, I don’t have parties in here, just like mom asked,” Roman jumps to reassure him, shifting from foot to foot behind him.
“Stop that fidgeting, son,” he says, waving a hand at him as he sits on the sofa. Roman immediately stills himself as much as he can, eyes still trained on the floor. “And who’s our spy over there, huh?” he laughs, drawing attention to Patton in the doorway of the dining room.
They step fully into sight, clearing their throat. “Just me, ha! Hi, Mr. Carmona, uh, how unexpected!”
“Patton, there he is, I thought that was you. Don’t you look worse for wear, it’s not that early, is it?”
Patton lets out a strained laugh, self-consciously tugging at their sleep bonnet with a forced smile as they attempt to ignore the careless ‘he’ that left the older man’s mouth. “Ah, you’re always such a jokester, Mr. Carmona. You’re right though, I have work to go to soon. So. Uh. Yep!” And with a double thumbs up, Patton is gone to their room, leaving a desperate looking Roman in the dust.
His father turns to look at him behind the black lenses, his smile looking a bit more like bared teeth to Roman. “You look fit, though you could be dressed better. Even around the house, you’ve got an image to maintain, right Roman?”
“Yes, dad, of course. I- I usually am dressed better, I was working out, just getting some coffee before dressing up proper-“
“Working out, hm? That’s my boy, thinking about going into sports after all, just like your old man did?”
“Well, ah-“ Roman sighs, choosing to not even discuss his theatre classes. “We’ll see! There’s always the chance later on.”
“Better get to it fast, you only have so many chances with college teams. And we both know you’ve already ruined the chance for a business degree.” Roman stiffens at the words, looking even more pointedly at the floor. There’s a pause of tense staring, before his father breaks out into laughter. “Kidding, son I’m kidding! Of course I’m kidding. You are so uptight, loosen up a little!” He pats the couch. “Come sit, relax, it’s your house after all.” Roman pulls his lips into a stiff smile, sitting down next to him. He swears the air between them is physically thick with tension, pressing his sweaty palms into his thighs to try and resist the desperate need to fidget.
“So,” he clears his throat. “Was there anything you needed to stop by for?”
“Just a visit, is all. I always want to see my favorite boy, you know that,” he grins, finally removing his sunglasses, his eyes nearly the exact same shade of green as Roman’s. Roman hates it. “Especially now that you’re the only heir, I need to make sure you’re being taught well, living well – I want my company going to someone smart and strong.” Unlike Remus, is what Roman hears behind those words, clenching his jaw to stay silent. His dad runs a hand over his hair, which stays perfectly in place. “Anyways, how is school going? And hell, how’s that Virgil kid doing? Haven’t seen him out here yet. Does he sleep in this late? You really shouldn’t surround yourself with people like that, you know-“
“No, dad, he’s at work. Virgil works night shifts on weekends, over into the morning. He’s very hard-working and determined, just like he was in high school. And middle school.”
“What’s he working at right now?”
Roman cringes internally. “Uh. Fast food, but that’s just a college job. Remember, he’s in the engineering courses?”
“Hm! Smart profession!” his father says, scratching at his chin and nodding in approval. Roman reminds himself to actually breathe again.
“Yes, he’s always been smart. Much more than me and Remus, that’s for sure.”
His dad chuckles darkly, folding his hands over themselves. “Oh, come on now. You don’t need to be thinking about him, Roman.”
Roman’s joints stiffen, locking him in place under his father’s gaze. “Right. Silly me. Sorry.” He tries to keep an edge out of his voice, but it bites through anyways.
He can’t see his face, but he feels his father’s weight shift towards him, feels his breathing move closer. “You need to tell me something, mijo?” he poses in an overly casual tone. “Because if you’re still involved with your brother your mother and I would be very disappointed. Is that clear?”
Roman looks up, finally, meeting his father’s eyes evenly, swallowing all his fear in one quiet gulp. “Crystal clear, dad. I wouldn’t dream of it.”
In their room, Patton is almost fully ready when they hear the front door open and close again. Peeking down the hall, they listen. They hear a quiet, soft heaving noise, like Roman’s choking on the air he tries to breathe. Stepping out, they walk to him, quick. “Roman, buddy?” they call from the side of him. The noises immediately cease and Roman sniffs, turning to look at them.
“Yes, Pat?” All emotion is gone from his face, and he looks bizarrely gaunt and hollow in the sunlight.
“Take it that was no fun, per usual.”
“Mhh,” is all he offers, listing backwards until he’s laying across the couch, closing his eyes. He throws an arm over his eyes, waving his other hand at them dismissively. “I’ll be alright in a little while, nothing to fret. Go to work, okay? I’m good. I’m good.”
Patton can tell that this is more Roman trying to convince himself of it than the actual truth of his emotions, but they also knows that Roman never cries if someone is watching him, so they let it be. Finishing getting ready quickly, they come back out with their bag and everything ready to go. They walk over to him, still in the exact same position on the sofa. “See you in a bit, okay, Rom? Love you, buddy. You should call Lo, maybe she can keep you company, yeah?” Roman doesn’t speak in response, and Patton lets it be.
--
Logan has always held herself to a high standard of living. She’s the sort of person you’d stereotype as pulling all-nighters, but that isn’t true of her. Her schedule is so tightly planned, down to the minute, that she gets all of her studying done by 8 p.m. and is in bed by 9 every night. She wakes at 7 a.m. the next morning, has a healthy breakfast, usually of oatmeal and the correct portion size of whatever fruit is in season. It’s a cool day today, so she opens her window - as much as it will open, which is a crack half its length – and lets the room air out as she eats. Her eyes close to the light breeze as she eats, attempting to finish quickly despite knowing she has time.
After eating, at exactly 8:30, she gets dressed for work since it’s the weekend. Lo has a job at a fast-food joint nearby, and while the pay is definitely not good, it pays for her apartment and the bit of tuition she has left after her scholarship. Patting down her clothes one last time, she checks it over for wrinkles. Even though it’s nothing but a black polo and a company apron, she will keep it clean and neat no matter what.
Picking up her wallet and keys, Lo is tying up her hair before going out the door, when there’s a knock on it. She pauses dead still for a moment. She isn’t expecting anyone, and the sudden wrench in her routine makes her frown in annoyance. Opening the door stiffly, she snaps out a ‘yes?’ before noticing who it is. “Oh,” she says, shoulders relaxing. “Roman? What are you doing here? I have- work…” She trails off when she takes note of how exhausted he looks, outfit only half as fabulous as usual with a simple half buttoned button up and pants.
“I- I know,” he says, hands wringing for a moment before he forcibly stops himself and puts them at his side. “I wanted to see you, though, even if it’s just for a bit?” He nervously meets her eyes for just a moment, sighing.
Logan blinks rapidly as she tries to consider what to do. Work, her schedule, her routine. She can’t just take a day off, surely, she hasn’t ever taken a day off of her job. But Roman, he needs her. But her job. But Roman.
“Um, Lo? Are you alright? I can go if I need to.”
Logan phases back into reality, her mouth opening and closing uncertainly. “Ah. Well- um. I’m not sure what to do here.” She bites her bottom lip, looking at the floor. “I haven’t ever taken a day off before, especially for something non-illness related. It would be skipping, and I cannot skip.” Roman nods, and she can see him failing to hide the dejected look on his face. She looks at her phone, the alarm notification for work happened five minutes ago now. Six. She breathes in, swallows dryly, and then dials her manager’s number.
-
“Your father sounds miserable to interact with,” Logan ponders, glancing quizzically at Roman. “Why do you entertain him?”
Roman sighs, taking a bite of the cheese fries he got from the food delivery they ordered. “Well, I guess it’s just- I mean, do you not want to impress your parents? No matter what it takes?”
Logan sips from her paper cup of water, glancing to the floor. “My parents are both doctors. They have held me to high standards through my entire schooling. They wanted me to become one as well. They never explained how they felt about- about me going into teaching instead, but it has not felt the same since I told them.”
Roman nods, bringing more food to his mouth even as he responds. “My dad doesn’t like my major either. He went into business, that’s how he’s so rich. My mom’s money helps, but he’s the one really raking it in. You can… imagine his reaction to me going into theatre.”
“Disappointed,” they mutter in unison. They go quiet, both thinking.
“I don’t think we should have to be what they want,” Roman says, leaning his chin on his hand. He hesitates. “But… then, Remus wasn’t what they wanted, and he got kicked out, cut off. I don’t know. I feel like I’m obligated to do what they ask of me, most of the time. My father calls me his heir, he acts like a goddamn king, and I’m his little prince.” Roman angrily swallows his food, glaring at the table.
Logan watches him, eyebrows drawn together. “Do you not want to inherit their wealth? It seems like it would make life so much easier.” She grazes her eyes along the cracked wall behind them, and the cheap furniture that came with the two room apartment that she can barely afford.
“It would, in the way of physical comfort. But- I don’t know, maybe it sounds spoiled.” Roman cuts himself off, but Logan hums, prodding him to continue. “In the emotional sense, I feel completely impoverished.”
Logan smiles slightly. “That does sound spoiled,” she chuckles. “But I understand what you mean, despite the dramatic phrasing.” Roman sticks out his tongue at her, but he’s smiling, and so she assumes he’s not angry. She sets away her water and the wrappings of her food, standing. “Do you want to lie down? I don’t… have a television, but we could watch something on my phone. I can pay for wifi this month.”
Roman ruffles up slightly, trying not to look at her situation with pity. “I have unlimited data, we can watch it on mine,” he offers, taking her hands. Logan looks at him with no expression, then nods. They lay down together, and Roman sets his head under her chin for a moment, letting himself just hold onto her. They have more in common than he ever thought.
--
Lately, Janus has started humming again. She can’t remember the last time she would hum and sing casually, but it was definitely before she even hit middle school. But things have been good lately. Things have been… great even. Aside from the shitty apartment and still existent lack of money, she feels good. And so she’s been humming in the kitchen today. She’s making scones. She also can’t remember the last time she did that. Remus bought the right flour for her, and the blueberries. She bought the rest. They’ve been splitting bills lately – it’s the only way Janus will let him pay.
Remus comes home from the tattoo shop slightly early to the smell of baking and the soft humming of his- girlfriend? Actually, they haven’t discussed what they are now. He watches her from the doorway, smiling like he can’t remember ever doing. They’re happy, that’s what they are. He comes up behind her, and gently, careful not to knock her balance off, wraps an arm around her waist.
“Oh, shit Remus, hi,” she says, startled. She smiles though, turning around from the oven she was keeping watch of. “You’re home early, the scones aren’t even done.”
“Last client cancelled on me today. Remy told me to just go home, heh.” He smiles at her with crooked teeth, leaning forward and pressing his forehead against hers. She stays silent, but she wraps her arms around him in return. He holds her there for a moment, just letting himself be close to her. She smells like sugar and flour.
Janus pulls away with a sigh, leaning her weight back onto the counter. “You are so lucky I’m baking for you, my pain is going to bite me in the ass later thanks to you.”
Remus laughs. “I didn’t even ask you to bake! Why’s it my fault, huh?”
“Because you are at fault for every wrong in the world, clearly.”
“Oh, clearly!” Remus rolls his eyes, grinning.
Janus brushes hair out of her face with baking supplies covered fingers. “Can you go get my phone, Remus? It’s taking forever for these to cook.”
Remus nods, heart skipping at the fact she’s letting him go into her bedroom. He practically skips as he moves to go grab it. It’s on the nightstand, and he picks it up to give to her. It buzzes in his hand and he pauses as a call comes in. He decides to answer it and then bring it to her so that it isn’t missed. “Hello?” he greets.
“Hi, J!” comes a familiar voice. Where does he know that from? “Are we still on for tonight? I wanted to go somewhere that I would like this time, I’m still at my job but I’ll be done soon enough. Answering the phone all day is sooo boring!”
Remus’ eyes widen, and he can’t make himself respond. He does know who that is. It’s his brother’s roommate. Why would they be talking to Janus? Why would they be friends with her at all when Roman’s told them all about her in such a bad light?
“Um, hello? J?” Remus hurriedly hangs up the phone, blinking across at the wall. Hesitantly, he walks out to give her the phone.
“Hey, Jan. Uh, phone!” he says awkwardly as he hands it to her.
“Thank you, Remus, the scones are almost done now. Took you a moment, could you not find it?”
“Uh. Somethin’ like that!”
Janus glances him over. “Something like that?”
“Y-yeah, I guess I was just- I was embarrassed! I’ve never been in there before! You should really clean up your underwear, y’know,” he deflects away from the truth, smiling at her quite convincingly.
She goes slightly red and scoffs at him. “Don’t make it so you never go in there again, Carmona,” she teases him, turning away to hide her blush.
Remus laughs, scratching his calf with his foot, biting at his nails as he rolls the need to do something about this around in his head. “Yeah, Janus. I won’t.”

what makes the perfect gift - sanders asides review
first of all, take my livebloggings as i watched
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as you can see, i quite.. enjoyed this episode. it had some of that old sanders sides charm that i really appreciated. other than a couple very brief moments, no one felt too egregiously out of character. i quite enjoyed how patton was written, he was just being silly! and aside from the regular light side/dark side (hate those terms but. simplicity's sake) aggression, im glad to see theyre actually getting along!
IT WASNT AN AD!! NOTHING WAS BEING ADVERTISED!! sure, they wore the tss xmas sweaters, but it would be weird if they DIDNT imo. and even with thomas wearing the rswr hoodie, it was more of a reminder that it exists than a direct advertisement
i genuinely felt myself invested in the story with this one, which i havent felt in.. ages. because as ive said before, i love sasi! i want to like the content!
i dont really have many thoughts beyond that.. it was a perfectly fine little episode. if i were to rate it, probably a 6.5/10
i was deeply wrong, and overly negative, with my predictions upon seeing the photos of thomas in the xmas sweaters. i will admit that. BUT: my predictions came from me seeing a pattern of behaviour with thomas and his content. i will owe up to my mistakes, but i dont apologise for viewing the initial teaser tweets in a negative light. i feel like it was well within my right to expect shitty things of thomas
i do wish we got the finale instead. also - thomas was able to write, film, and edit a silly 13 minute like this in a week... i feel like he's slowly loosing excuses as to why we don't have any parts of the finale. he can make pretty good content when he wants to!
this is what sanders sides should've stayed as imo.

Hey I saw your requests were open? If that's still the case then I'd love to request a Natemare x reader that has some sanders sides fic where the reader has been dating Mare for awhile so the reader decides to finally introduce Mare to there best friend of many years, Virgil. If that's possible, please and thank you.
Of course!!!

----------------------------------------
As you were standing in front of the Sides house, it occurred to you for the fifteenth time that day that Natemare, your boyfriend, had never met the Sides. You didn’t know if they’d even get along.
The reason you were here other than introduce him to your friends was to see your best friend of many years, Virgil. He was an anxious guy, but somehow you were closest to him out of the Sides rather than one would probably expect your best friend to be, like Logan or Patton.
But Anxiety was the one who you were closest to. You’d known Virgil for around five years, since Thomas had invited you over saying that he “wanted you to meet a few people.” It turned out that those people were parts of himself.
You sighed, and knocked on the door, then turning to Mare. “It won’t be that long, usually Roman- Creativity gets the door within a few seconds,”
“Yeah? Wellll, I can’t help but notice it’s taking a few more than that, isn’t it Y/N?” He said sarcastically, looking around the outside of the house. Oh yeah, he’d for sure get along with Virgil.
Around ten seconds later Roman opened the door, and he smiled at the sight of you. He called out to the other Sides, “Y/N IS HERE!!!”
Then he looked back at you and his eyes turned to Mare. “Ohh, who is this now? Your lover? What’s his name? How did you meet-“
“Roman!! Shut!!!” You said, interrupting him. That man never stopped with his romance questions if he figured one was interested in it.
“Awww… fine, I’ll save them for later. But do I at least get to know his name?” Roman said.
You looked over at Mare, and he smiled.
“I’m Natemare, but if you want you can call me Mare,” He told Roman, shaking his hand.
“Well.. come in! Virgil will be happy to see you, Y/N!” Roman said, moving out of the way.
“Who’s Virgil?” Mare asked you as you both walked into the house.
“He’s my best friend,” You answered.
“And you’ve never introduced me to him? Shame upon you,” He said jokingly, “How dare you not introduce me to everyone you know.”
“Shut up,” you said, laughing a little.
“Hmm… no!” He replied. “Y’know, I am curious as to who the other Sides are. Roman was certainly a… character,”
“That’s just how he is,” you said. You then saw Logan, Patton and Janus hanging out in the living room, playing some kind of board game.
Patton looked up first, and pretty much shouted in excitement. “Y/N! You’re here! I’m so happy, it’s been way too long,”
“Patton, it has been two weeks since Y/N has last visited.” Logan said, placing a piece on the board. Janus looked at you, slightly smiling, and then he looked at Mare.
“Oh, great, there are two emos here now.. I’m so thrilled,” He said, and he rolled his eyes.
“You remind me of my younger brother,” Mare said to Janus.
“Amazing,” Janus said flatly. Patton then went up to Mare.
“What’s your name? Are you human? Also, I’m Patton, Thomas’s Morality, Logan is his Logic and Janus is his… Deceit,” He said.
“I’d suggest stopping with the rampant questions, Patton, he’s already been questioned enough by Roman,” Logan said.
“It’s okay. I’m Natemare, and no, I’m not human. I’m a siren,” Mare answered Patton.
“Like the beings that lured sailors to their deaths in Greek Mythology?” Logan asked.
Mare nodded, “Exactly. Most people I meet get scared when they hear that, so it’s kind of new that people aren’t.. you know, trembling and backing away just because of that.”
“It wouldn’t be nice to judge you based on what you are!” Patton said, smiling once more.
“Hypocrite,” Janus quietly said with anger while out of earshot of Patton. Which was true. Out of all the light Sides, Patton was the one who judged the dark Sides based on what they were the most.
“That’s nice. It was nice meeting all of you, Y/N has mentioned all of you once or twice,” Mare said.
“You did?!” Patton said happily.
You nodded. “Yeah. Also, Patton, do you know where Virgil is?” You asked. You hadn’t seen the emo nightmare yet, which was odd. Usually he was one of the first to come talk to you when you came over.
“Yes, where is that raccoon? He disappeared right when you showed up,” Janus said.
“He’s downstairs,” Patton replied, “Probably on the couch, poor kiddo. I wonder what’s up with him today..”
It might be the fact a new person is here. Virgil didn’t like new people, he never has. It took him a while to trust you, and even more time for him to open up to you.
“Thank you! We’ll go check on him,” You said, walking down the stairs with Mare.
“So.. if the Sides represent things about Thomas, then what is Virgil?” Mare asked you.
“Virgil is Thomas’s Anxiety,” you answered his question. “He’s not really a people person,”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Mare said. You two reached the bottom, and entered into a second living area.
You looked around for your best friend, and then saw him on the couch, like Patton said he might be.
He was on his phone, probably scrolling on Tumblr, with his hood up and his headphones in. The music was loud, so loud that you could hear it. It was “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” by My Chemical Romance, which was Virgil’s self proclaimed “theme song” and one you two often listened to together.
Well, if listening is counted as screaming the lyrics to it at 3am, then yes, you listened to it together.
You went up to him and tapped his shoulder a few times. “Virgil??”
He paused his music and looked up, not taking off his hood. “What?” He said with an annoyed tone. You were stunned for a moment. He hadn’t been this blatantly annoyed with you since before you were best friends.
“Uh- I want you to meet someone,” You said, gesturing to Mare. Virgil sighed, and finally took off his hood, taking out his headphones as well.
“Who?” That was all he said. “Don’t tell me they’re like Roman… or worse, Remus,”
“Oh, no, he’s not like them at all. This is Natemare, my boyfriend,” You said. Virgil moved to look at Mare, looking him up and down.
“He’s your boyfriend? Huh. Wait, first of all, WHEN did you get a boyfriend? You’ve never mention this to me before,” he said, his annoyance slightly going away.
“We’ve been dating for six months,” Mare answered for you.
“Six months??? Y/N, you’ve been over here  eight times in that time and you’ve NEVER mentioned this??? I would’ve thought that you would tell me whenever you got a partner, since you’re, you know, my best friend!” Now the annoyance was back. Virgil did seem mad, as he raised his voice slightly.
“Hi.. I don’t want us to bother you, we can leave if you want,” Mare said. “Also.. were you listening to MCR? They’re one of my favorite bands, and I’m Not Okay is a good song.”
Virgil was silent for a few moments, and then spoke. “No, you guys can… stay if you want. I want Y/N here at least,” He said.
“Alright,” You said. “Can I sit next to you?” You asked. Virgil simply nodded, and moved so you could sit next to him.
You sat down, and Mare sat down too. You moved closer to him, and Virgil sort of.. glared?? Does he think that just because you have a boyfriend, you’re going to abandon him or something?
“Virgil.. I’m not going to leave you, and I’m not going to stop being friends with you just because I have a boyfriend,” You said, trying to reassure him due to his unspoken feelings.
“Who said I thought that? I wasn’t saying that,” He said. Mare laughed.
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna steal your best friend from you or something,”
Virgil… actually laughed at that. That was a good sign.
That was probably the quickest time he laughed at something someone he just met said, even when you had first met him.
You could tell they’d get along great. Eventually.

Perceptiveness and Power: A Remus Essay
While this could just be me reiterating what was already presented in canon, I just wanted to acknowledge the semantics of Remus as a side, and how his sense of perceptiveness provides him a semblance of power to influence both Thomas and the other sides.
In DWIT, to explain how Remus was able to garner anxiety from Thomas, Patton, and Virgil, Logan describes him as someone who “plays to [Thomas’] sensitivities.”
Tumblr media
And, well, fucking duh. I think majority of the fandom acknowledges that Remus uses fear as a means to gain control or get the attention of the other sides and Thomas. But a thing I think most people don’t acknowledge as much is how skilled Remus is at understanding fears in the first place.
[rest of the essay is under the cut!]
Because random, stereotypical R18 stuff is generally scary; it appeals to what the status quo collectively thinks is inhumane or awful. But to me, this isn’t actually what provides Remus power to influence the others. He garners control via understanding personal fears. And, I mean, double fucking duh because it would hit more if someone can thoroughly sniff out the insecurities you keep secret from the world.
But I still think that Remus’ perceptiveness of one’s fears generally goes unnoticed. I think it’s underestimated, even, both in the fandom and in Sanders Sides itself. We think this man is Silly, he said so himself, but I think we also have to realize that Remus is deliberate. Yes, his goals can be silly and can change on a whim, but that does not mean that Remus is dumb. He commits. He commits in the way that he creates complicated traps for Thomas to feel more and more insecure about himself. He commits in the way that he plays into Virgil and Patton’s fears, toying with their warped sense of black-and-white thinking to make Thomas become more insecure.
If Remus wants to do something, he’s perceptive enough to know which insecurities he has to feast on to make it work.
Rewatching DWIT, I’ve noticed that, besides his random comments, he makes comments that directly describe the insecurities of everyone else in the room. It’s interesting, because he can make a string of comments unrelated to the matter at hand, then he’ll drop a heavy fucking bomb calling out the insecurities of another person. Here are the different examples I caught in DWIT and WTIT:
Reaping Thomas’ morality crisis:
Tumblr media
His awareness of Logan’s neglect:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two instances of his awareness of Virgil’s internal morality conflict:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Roman tells Thomas that Remus reminds him of his own insecurities. What a fucking madman. (all /lh btw, I fucking LOVE devious schemers):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the scary part about this is that... this is the first time we see him. Of course, the sides would know him way before this episode, but the fact Remus can read them well without being close to them is terrifying.
The question is, what becomes of Remus’ perceptiveness and harvested power? While I am a Remus and Logan-centric blog, I do think there’s enough scenes in both DWIT and WTIT that could potentially foreshadow the future of their dynamic, and the execution of how Logan comes to terms with the others’ neglect towards him.
First scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, this feels a little… too on the nose. Knock on wood, Logan, especially when you acknowledge what happened in WTIT.
Second scene, to provide more context on what I want to explain: I can’t just provide screenshots for this, and I can’t attach a video, so please watch DWIT from 29:42-29:55. If you can’t, here’s a transcript:
[Logan: And THAT is precisely why the Duke feels like such a threat. In part, at least. The feeling that you may be a bad person who doesn't have control over yourself or your destiny causes you to fear that you may actually act on these thoughts.]
An important part to denote is that Remus shifts is eyes when Logan says “feelig that you may be a bad person who doesn’t have control over yourself.” There’s something very mischievous and cheeky about that eye shift, from looking directly at Logan and looking away as if saying, well isn’t that hypocritical?
Look at the transcript again, too. Even without Remus’ eyeroll, doesn’t the person Logan describe feel a little… familiar to you? Of course, they all shared the loss of the audition, but think: which of the sides has hinted anger issues (“doesn’t have control over yourself”) and has lost the opportunity to heavily influence Thomas’ life, especially in terms of career (“or your destiny”)?
Of course: Logan.
While Logan is correct in saying intrusive thoughts don’t have real-world impact, Logan is also correct in saying that Patton and Virgil are at fault for reacting intensely against Remus’ funneled intrusive thoughts, causing Thomas’ mental health to dip further.
But Remus does not just invoke fear via horrors that the collective status quo would consider as horror. Remus understands and is perceptive of the other sides and Thomas’ personal fear, just like I established a while ago. And with the way he calls out other sides’ insecurities, sometimes he just... does it, because he wants to. Not just as his role as intrusive thoughts, but possibly just a personal agenda to fulfill.
So, in essence, Remus as intrusive thoughts may not hurt Logan, but Remus as a perceptive, cunning, committed, goal-oriented person still can.
If he sniffs an insecurity out of Logan, would you think he still has no “real-world impact”?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, thought so.
While I don’t actually know what Remus would want out of Logan, I do think that, at a meta-angle, Remus can provide... a lot of insight and advice for Logan in terms of gaining power and handling mistreatment, whether it would be beneficial for Logan or not.
All I’m gonna say is, Remus’ character is very interesting, and I’m heavily intrigued to know how he would continue bothering the other sides, especially Logan.

Unplanned Consequences (Part 3: Remy) [Sometimes Labels Shift Series]
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Relationships: Remy & Logan, (background) Remy/Emile
Characters: Remy, Logan, Emile (briefly)
Summary: Remy is asked to help with something.
Notes: This takes place after Best Laid Plans
Part 1 Part 2
When the doorbell to the safe house rang, Remy found himself flinching to his own embarrassment. However, when he looked at Emile over the little kitchen table, the tension around his eyes told him he wasn’t the only one on edge.
“Probably just someone trying to sell us solar power panels,” Remy said. “I’ll go tell them we rent.”
Emile nodded and followed him without a word. He picked up the gun that had been laying on the table between them and carried it with him. Remy knew Emile wasn’t exactly a fan of guns, so seeing him pick it up with so little hesitation both made him feel better and worse.
Emile hung back out of sight of the door while Remy approached, though he did his best to stay where he thought his shadow couldn’t be seen through the pulled curtain on the front door window. Cautiously he stretched so he could glance out of the curtain.
The fear that had been rolling in his stomach swiftly transitioned into being pissed off.
He almost ripped the door off its hinges. He probably would have if Logan was any worse at picking safe houses. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
Logan himself in all his dumb motherfucking beaten to hell glory was sitting (not standing because Remy was well aware he had a broken leg) outside the safe house.
“Good evening, Remington,” he said irritatingly calmly. He was in a wheelchair. What had Patton been thinking getting him a wheelchair? Now he was mobile. And a mobile Logan, as was evident, was an idiot.
“Give me one reason,” Remy said, gripping the door frame so hard he was afraid he might bend it, structurally sound or no, “not to finish the job right now you bitch.”
“There is a task that must be done, and Patton is not in the mental state to do it.”
“And you’re in the physical state to do it?!” Remy asked. “How the fuck did you even get here?”
“I designed my vehicle years ago for adequate functionality no matter what my physical and mental state,” Logan explained. Remy glanced behind him to see a car he’d never seen before and didn’t recognize the make or model of at all.
“You have a concussion, dumbass.”
“It is mostly self-driving when needed,” Logan waved him off.
“Mostly?! I fucking hate you.”
Emile had approached, sans gun after hearing the conversation going on. “Perhaps we should keep this conversation quieter,” he suggested, in a more level tone.
“That is likely for the best,” Logan agreed.
“You can shut your mouth,” Remy snapped at him, though he did keep his tone quieter. “Why don’t we go inside?”
He realized his mistake instantly when Logan glanced meaningly at the porch steps. Right. That explained why the man hadn’t used his complicated secret knock. He couldn’t get up onto the porch and was likely still suffering from power exhaustion. Fucker shouldn’t have even put forth the effort to ring the doorbell. “Or I’ll just come to your car,” Remy said, glancing back at Emile. Emile nodded and stepped back into the house.
Remy went down the steps and whacked Logan’s hands away from the wheelchair wheels.
“I managed to get here,” Logan reminded him, a little bit grumpy which was actually a nice change from the businesslike tone he’d been taking so far.
“You are supposed to be on bedrest, so fuck you,” Remy replied, moving to push him towards the car. “Now how do you get in and out of this thing?”
“Step back,” Logan said. Remy did with a raised eyebrow and then had to bite his tongue to keep from making a loud exclamation of shock. It went too fast for him to quite make out what happened and if he didn’t know better, it looked like the car basically just… swallowed Logan wheelchair and all. In a blink, Logan was in the driver’s seat.
Remy gaped at him for a moment before shaking himself and rounding the car to get into the passenger seat the normal way.
“Okay,” Remy said, once seated. “Explain to me why I’m not driving you immediately back to Patton so he can put you into a medically induced coma until you heal.”
“Well, for starters, I am in the driver’s seat.”
Remy rolled his eyes.
Logan took a breath. “I am very injured,” he said. “In a way I cannot hide in my personal life. At this point, it seems unlikely we are already compromised. Delaying returning to our normal lives is very quickly becoming more of a risk to our identities than continuing to hide.”
“And?”
“We need to crash my personal car,” Logan said, “and I need to go to the emergency room.”
“Oh… shit.”
“Will you help me?”
“Well,” Remy said, “I’m not letting Patton or Virgil for that matter do it, so I fucking guess.”
“If it helps, I believe my powers have recovered enough that neither of us will need to be in the car during the crash.”
“It doesn’t help. I hadn’t even been considering that. Fuck you.”
Logan was silent, giving him a moment.
Remy took a deep breath. Man, this had been a fucking disaster of a few days.
“You better…” he said. “You better get better soon, so I can beat the shit out of you myself. Okay?”
Logan didn’t say anything for a long moment. He just stared out of the windshield with an expression on his face Remy couldn’t identify. It was a bit terrifying.
“I appreciate it,” Logan finally said. “You are a good friend.”
“Yeah, well,” Remy said. “Fuck.”
“‘Fuck’ is a good summary of recent events,” Logan said. “At least it’s a better summary than I can come up with.”
Remy snorted out a laugh and shook his head.
Logan moved his hands on the car wheel very slightly and Remy was startled when the car hummed to life under them.
“We will also need to cover for the fact that my injuries are already beginning to heal once I get to the hospital,” Logan said.
“Yeah, I can handle that for you too,” Remy promised. It would be a long night, but not the longest one in recent memory.

FSS3: an update
Hey,
Two days ago, I finished the first draft for FSS3, a fanwriting of Sanders Season 3 (season 2 finale included) that I am doing thanks to the sweet contributions/ideas/prompts given by the people of this fandom.
When two days ago I was writing the final episode that would end Sanders Sides, I realized that
it was boring
I was not satisfied by it
it was not what I planned
not all concepts seemed to be developed well
There was one possible solution only: to check everything again.
Some of you might think this is useless, because I already planned everything in advance, right? Well, when you write, stuff tends to be added or to change. Also, when you plan in advance, everything seems very smooth. But once you have the final result of your planning, things might be different. Still, it’s better to have it, because it makes it easier to go back from the start and check if everything really is as smooth as planned.
And so, here’s how I checked it.
Tumblr media
Those are all the main concepts/plots I developed in each episode. I needed this to check
if all plots were developed during the season
if there weren’t too many temporal gaps
If they have been all wrapped up
But since this wasn’t enough, I also put the main ones into another graph
Tumblr media
This gave me a better vision of how the themes have been developed and also how Character!Thomas should be developed.
And if you see these post-its, they all have a title. The title of a song of Character!Thomas’ playlists. After all, his playlist follows his character arc, so why not using it as a base to see if/how I followed his arc correctly?
And speaking of characters, I couldn’t leave behind the real main ones:
Tumblr media
Here I wrote down what they did for each episode, then added the song titles. In this case, the songs don’t just help me see if I followed their arc, but act as a reminder of how I should write the Sides and focus on their personalities.
This also made me realize the dark boys never had a chance to talk about society, which is of course a huge oversight because they clearly love doing it every time they can.
And once I noticed this, I also realized what was sitting wrong with me: it was Roman’s character arc. Only by adding his songs, I realized that after the season 2 finale, I reverted his arc and made him full of doubts again. It could’ve worked if season 2 finale was one episode, but since we’re talking about 4 parts, Roman should start season 3 with a better understanding of himself.
Once I corrected this point, Thomas’ arc improved as well and I was ableto take away one prompt that was more of a nuisance, rather than something useful.
And so, I planned season 2 finale again. Now Roman goes through a real arc, Patton is not in the back anymore and I have a chance to show Janus’ character better: this guy is useful, but he should be used well, otherwise he will end up being just a way to make jokes.
Now you may ask: why are you telling us all of this? The reason is that I learned some stuff that I want to share - and that I hope it could be useful for people who wants to write/plan to write anything.
First of all, this second check after the first draft confirmed me the importance of planning/putting down a whole project in advance, before submitting it to the public. Just imagine if I started posting stuff, without writing the end: I would’ve reached the last episode and realized that the beginning didn’t work. Then what? Take everything down and start again? All while people already read the first bad stuff I gave them? I would’ve lost credibility and people would’ve wasted their time.
Also, some episodes I planned are very good and I love them, so I would’ve hated to reveal them mixed with the bad stuff.
It also made me question, once again, how can Mr. Sanders think that writing a couple episodes at the time will help him properly wrap up the series. Sanders Sides currently has so many threads and plot points to explore, it’s impossible to properly wrap them up by planning just a couple episodes at the time. Even by planning the entire series in advance as I did, I realized there were a couple things I forgot! How can he not entirely forget/dismiss huge themes and concepts, if he doesn’t write the whole thing at once?
Last but not least, this served me as a reminder of how fun writing is. Planning the season 2 finale again made me happy, I loved the better focus I gave on Roman and Janus. And I can’t wait to replan/rewrite Roman during season 3.
Speaking of that: as you can see from my graphs, I planned 24 episodes. And I like that number, but I also realized some episodes are very short and they can be put together into one. Also, Roman’s rewrite will probably lead to less episodes in the first part.
So... well, I might end up wrapping all of this in less episodes than planned. Which is better, in a way, because it follows the trend of the first two seasons being less than 20 episodes.
In any case, I will keep you all updated.
Bye for now and I hope you are all having a great summer <3
