#he really hates deku specifically

baji is the groundskeeper???? where does he stay? does he ever get main house privileges?
he hasn't been relevant to me since i fell in love with deku but now he's just around when i need to think about a silly man (i just love nonsense headcanons with him every so often since he's unserious and my other faves are too like upstanding to apply certain kind of nonsense scenarios too)
he has zero main house privileges. i don't respect him but no one has the heart to truly throw him out. i have no idea where he stays.

what if the gloves somehow gave him blackwhip again 🥺
My personal belief is that the suit is able to mimic all the past users’ quirks, I think it would be so cool and also makes sense then with why it took so long to make

✎ᝰ BAKUGOU KATSUKI ; — bakugou hates feeling jealous. but you make it worthwhile.
࿄ ! warnings — f!reader. absolutely none. sfw. / note. katsuki is a cutie patootie.
Tumblr media
jealous bakugou is something else. he doesn’t think he’s all that possessive of you at all - he doesn’t care if your outfit is skimpy or if you have guy friends. bakugou regards himself as very secure in his relationship with you.
until he hears what guys have to say about you. then he gets a little crazy.
it’s an open day where he’s helping a group of lackies and hero interns with integrating into his agency and it’s pretty innocent at first. kiri and deku are doing most of the heavy lifting with talking with the prospective sidekicks and heroes (katsuki is very content with the extras he has already). he’s already kind of distracted by seeing you this morning - you offered to lift a hand and do some extra work around his agency for today due to the unusual amount of people scoping his place out and why would he pass on an offer to see you around his agency all day?
unfortunately for katsuki, it means that he’s being increasingly more distant than he usually is and the interns can feel the disgusted energy emitting from every fibre in his body. it’s not like he’s trying to hide it though - what a waste to have you come to his workplace and only catch glimpses of your hair and your scent.
“kacch- dynamight? what do you look for in a sidekick who wants to potentially join this agency,” asks izuku, pulling his friend out of his thoughts. katsuki looks at the crowd of young, probably high school kids and they basically cower under his gaze. he recognises a few of them from other, unimportant events he can’t seem to specifically recall. god, he wants to bite back at them but he shrugs in annoyance.
“don’t piss me off and do as you’re told. simple as but it seems like you lot would still f-”, deku quickly interjects katsuki and yells out, “okay! let’s take a quick 10 minute break! just have a look around and we’re free if you have any questions you want to ask!”
ᝰᝰᝰᝰᝰ
“what is with you today, kacchan? you’re more… insolent than usual,” asks izuku slowly, watching the expression on his blond’s face meld into a face of indifference.
“maybe it’s the fact that i don’t care about these idiots who’re just making a goddamn mess of the place. i don’t need more extras to fuck shit up f’me,” bakugou grumbles. kirishima pats his moody friends on the back and goes to speak when-
“well at least the rumours about dynamight are true. that guy is a fucking mood killer,” says some guy standing in the corner of the reception area, who looks to be a sidekick and is accompanied by other unknown up and coming ‘extras’ as Katsuki woukd put it.
“tell me about it. the guys here fucking suck. for once, i’m wishing that we were stuck with the female pros instead. have you seen uravity? she’s sexier in real life,” pipes up some other guy and the rest holler and hoot.
the three pros look at each other, with bakugou looking at kirishima and deku with knowing, smug eyes.
“i’m just going to interrupt their conversation-” says kirishima, attempting to walk over until another lackey pipes up.
“but have you seen y/h/n? what a woman. shame she’s not in her hero suit. what i would do for a woman like that,” grunts some pathetic looking guy. he’s spindly and limp and looks akin to a wet noodle.
it doesn’t stop katsuki from seething though.
kirishima and izuku slowly turn to look at their friend - who’s practically steaming in his hero uniform. all katsuki can see is red and violence - which isn’t really unlike from what he normally sees but it’s different this time. this time it’s about you.
he sees the group of gross, teenage boys point to where you’re standing: you’re leaning over the receptionist desk and just from the behind can katsuki appreciate how beautiful you are. you’re wearing a short black turtleneck dress with orange accents (you told him that you wanted to wear his colours to his agency) and in any other setting would katsuki run his hands over you and compliment and kiss you till you were shying away from him.
bakugou knew that you got unwanted attention, regardless if he was standing by you like a rabid guard dog - you were gorgeous and you knew that. he also knew that you could hold your own against a hoard of horny teenage losers and you would never look twice at them when you had him. still, that logic went out the window when he could see the same group of kids leering and pointing at where your thighs met the bottom of your dress and he wanted to kill them.
kirishima got wind of this just by looking at the blond’s expression, “please don’t blow up the place - they’re just dumb kids! think about how hard we worked for this agency,” pleads kirishima.
“he’s too far gone,” izuku sadly laments as they watch bakugou stride on over to you and ignore both the men’s pleas and bargains. he aggressively pushes past the disgusting collective of eyes and they break apart in shock at his intrusion through them.
you’re, however, too enamoured in your conversation with his assistant and mina- you’re looking at a pinterest board and he wants to bite you for being so cute in front of everyone. it makes him even angrier that those extras would ever think that you would give them more than a side eye and a polite wave.
you feel katsuki before you see him - his uniform-clad arm holds your waist between the desk as he slots himself into your conversation.
“so what’s this about? whatcha talking about?” katsuki asks and mina and his assistant giggle at his intrusion while you roll your eyes and turn yourself sideways to look at him.
“i would tell you but mina and akako might kill me,” you tell your boyfriend, resting a manicured hand on his chest. akako, bakugou’s assistant, laughs and nods her head:
“sorry, dynamight, our conversations are sacred. might i add your timetable tells me that you’re due to take the interns on a practice patrol in less than… 20 minutes?”
katsuki narrows his eyes at this and you chastise akako for poking at him, “leave him alone! i want him here,” before resting a hand on his stubbled jaw and scratching at his face. katsuki’s eyes close at the sensation and he opens them to take a good look at your face. the stupid kids are still a embittering thought in the back of his mind and in any given situation, he would never do this. but sometimes bakugou’s heart goes against his common sense and this was one of those times.
he leans down to slots his lips over yours and presses a gloved hand into the small of your back and you smile into the kiss while a few “awwhs,” emit in the background. bakugou opens an eye slightly to see in his peripheral vision that the gaggle of the limp-faced sidekicks are looking at him in a mixture of shock and fear and embarrassment. he also sees kirishima and izuku grab them up to guide them out of the room.
when you break from the kiss to brush at the hair on the nape of his head, he mumbles, “have i told you how much i love that dress on you?”
you giggle a little and lean up to kiss the corner of his mouth, “a few times. but you can keep telling me if you want. ‘s not like i’ll get tired of hearing it,” you whisper to him and it’s like you’re the only people in the room. he’ll tell you about what spurned this on another day. in the meanwhile, he bask in your attention until he has to go and entertain those useless jerks. it’s not like he’s going to employ any of them.
bakugou would say this is a mission accomplished in his book. yeah, he’s a little jealous and possessive. but with the way you look at him, he finds himself caring less and less about what others have to say about you.
doesn’t mean he won’t try knock them in the side of their head if the time calls for it.

My fav Bnha characters with a crush teehee
Have probs done this b4 butttt lol these look rlly long ngl
Tumblr media
Katsuki is kinda disgusted with himself. He hates all that lovey dovey bullshit and he always told himself he wouldn’t end up falling in love like the shitty old hag, but here he is being a lovesick moron. Katsuki is not known for being subtle, you’d have to be a special kind of moron to not notice he’s totally head over heels. Even if he wouldn’t describe it in those words, he totally is. He has very complicated feelings about the fact he likes you, wanting to focus on his hero training but you make it so difficult for him with your stupid smile that he loves hates so much. However he’s aware of how happy you make him feel, so he’s willing to set it aside, it must be a good thing you make him feel so good, right? It’s strange, but he will find himself showing off more when your around, trying to prove to you specifically he’s gonna be the best hero. In training he works extra hard if you happen to be around or happen to even be watching, he may even start competitions with class 1A just to prove himself to you. Whether it’s dumb competitions like racing in the pool or even school related competitions such as, who’s got the best grades, this nerd absolutely shows off around you. He wants you to think he’s cool, that he will one day be the best. But he also tries to leave subtle … hints he likes you. Even though it’s obvious already, he’s been given the impression that he isn’t totally obvious. He shows his interest in you in other ways, but I will mention he has an extreme jealousy problem even before you are even dating. This is typically of people that are “stronger” than him, so todoroki and deku. However he might get that jealousy if say, kaminari flirted with you. Other ways of actually showing interest though is that he’s actually nice to you, though he shows it in ways that can go unnoticed. If your forgetful he always makes sure he has an extra water bottle with him, or anything else you may need he just says he happens to have. Or perhaps you need help studying or even with homework, he just says kirishima happened to pick a different study buddy that day, so you and him can study together. And kirishima, as the ultimate wingman, insists you two should study more often… alone… and the main thing that gives him away! Blushing! Oh man, if he isn’t the most obvious guy in the universe because of that red face! He can blame it on the cold, he can blame it on how hot it is out, he can blame it on his quirk, or that he’s angry, he is always red faced when you’re too close. If you’ve ever seen amity blight blush, it’s exactly like that. He stares at you in class with this soft expression that is almost never seen on his face, and if he is to ever be caught he simply turns away as fast as possible, wide eyed and blushing. You’ll find that bakugou believes in your strength, so he’s protective in battle a reasonable amount, only if you’re truly in deep shit. When he’s more comfortable with being your friend, he takes you out on hiking trips and just hanging out with you, and sometimes kirishima. The entire class of 1A knows about his little crush though so it makes it extremely hard for him to keep it a secret lol, he’s constantly paranoid somebody told you.
Tumblr media
Oh man if you thought katsuki was bad, izuku is on another level of being obvious with his feelings. The boy truly wears his heart on his sleeve. It’s not even something he’s aware of at first, he just thinks your good looking like … wow way more attractive than anyone he’s ever met! You’re a good friend, with an interesting quirk and yes his notes on you are a lot longer than even kacchans and maybe he draws you a lot, maybe he draws moments where you looked really breathtaking and maybe he thinks about you before he goes to bed and when he wakes up in the morning and yes maybe he dreams about you too and overthinks everything you say to him and maybe he rambles about you an unreasonable amount to his friends but… oh man he… he likes you doesn’t he? And once he realizes, it gets even worse because now he’s just blushing at you and he looks like he’s gonna pass out everytime ochako mentions the fact he hasn’t confessed yet and he’s just dying on the spot. Boy talks faster than Eminem can rap whenever she mentions him having a crush especially if you happen to be there for the conversation. Tends to ramble around you a lot, just about random things and everyone is just like “oh god not this again” you have to be oblivious to not notice. Izuku tends to worry about you a lot, so he always checks up on you after training to make sure you didn’t get too hurt, and don’t even get him started when it comes to you going on missions, he worries so much when you’re fighting villains. Now he knows how his mother feels. Izuku tends to be clingy around his crush, so he tends to ask you to hang out quite often, whether it’s hanging out or even studying or even fighting together against some villain he likes being around you and likes making sure that you’re safe when it comes down to it. He tends to have very obvious slip ups that he likes you, voice cracks then correcting himself or perhaps coughing way too loudly when he tries to do an ahem cough, bumping into you and tripping, he’s so clumsy around you. Probably accidentally calls you pretty. He’s just… such a mess man.
Tumblr media
Hawks is not experienced with romance, while many can agree he’s a good looking guy that has many people flocking towards him, he was never that interested in dating until you showed around. Honestly, could’ve seen him being aromantic before meeting you, lol. So since he’s never experienced romantic feelings, it’s going to take him a little longer than it should to realize his feelings. However he does show signs of taking a special liking to you beforehand, that even he doesn’t understand at the time. He hates the idea of people looking at you the wrong way, perhaps to court you. He assumes this is because he senses they’re potentially dangerous and as a good friend of yours, he’s just looking out for you. After all, he’s naturally protective of you in battles with villains, even if you can protect yourself. Sure he’s not protective especially of endeavor or miruko, but that’s just because he’s not as close with them as he is with you! He doesn’t feel his heart beat faster around his other friends, but he assumes it must be something else, maybe there’s something making him nervous, or maybe he’s just simply excited to be around you! Sure he doesn’t blush around anyone else when they compliment him, but that’s because it means a lot knowing a close friend thinks about him in such a way! For awhile, keigo comes up with many reasons to justify his feelings towards you until miruko and endeavor make him realize he’s being a total moron right now. Upon realizing his feelings, he’s not completely sure how to go about it, but he starts by trying to make it known he likes you. He’s subtle with his flirts, but once he puts his toes in the water to see if your comfortable with him flirting, he dips his whole foot in. At that point, people just think you two are dating with how casual he is with his newfound flirtatious personality when you enter the picture. Upon realizing his feelings he becomes 10x more protective and kinda already acts like a boyfriend by bringing you lunch to work and taking you to cafes and literal dates and stupid shit like that, lmao.
Tumblr media
Aizawa I imagine having very few crushes in his lifetime, and has dates with even less people than that. Because of this inexperience even in his age, he’s not quite sure how to go about his feelings initially. Mic and midnight are extremely annoying about how obvious he is, as well. Aizawa is extremely protective of you, given his experience with his students, it’s only natural he grows protective of you and worries for your safety. Whether you’re a hero or not, he’s going to worry for you. Other than that, the way he shows he cares for you is different with you than it is with his friends. He’s good at listening to you and remembers very small things about you that maybe he wouldn’t remember with other people, he remembers very small details. Perhaps something as small as your favorite coffee even if you don’t like coffee that much. I imagine him fearing if his students ever found out he liked you, what kinda hell that would be. Dealing with them teasing him and potentially telling you, but he truly can’t help but be obvious at times. He stares at you longer than he should, even smiles at you longingly when he thinks you aren’t looking. He looks like a lovesick kitty. Generally reserved in his attraction to you, keeping to himself and hoping he can find some hints you return the feelings before initiating anything. However, he’s always been relatively stupid with romance so this takes awhile for him to even figure out and he has a habit of overthinking everything you say to him and is often left wondering what your intentions truly are with him. When you two spend time together, he likes doing things with you he’d never do with anyone else. Likes you playing and doing his hair, and watching movies and such, your hangouts often feel like dates even when you aren’t dating. So when the time does come you two date, it feels as though nothing has changed. He with trust you whole heartedly, if you aren’t a teacher at UA he is introducing his students to you, his co workers, and especially Eri, all the people who are important in his life but does it in such a way that feels casual and natural. He has a way of not making his crush known if your oblivious enough. However, a part of him that feels like he shouldn’t tell you how he feels come from a place of worrying for your safety and the people that may come after you. He will learn to trust you and your strength, he’s just a worried dad.
Tumblr media
Miruko is a bold and brave lady, however even she’s never had much experience with love. Being way too determined to become a hero, it hasn’t given her much time to really experience romance aside from hookups. She decided it was a waste of time, but as one of the top heroes, she understands she can have both things in her life. If she cares to, anyway. And upon meeting you had come to the conclusion she would love to have both things. Miruko is a very confident woman so you will find she wastes no time in approaching you with her feelings. This is, when she realizes them. Due to her being new to it, it takes her a bit to realize it. But after a couple months of knowing you she figure it out. The way she feels compelled to buy you stuff despite not knowing you for that long, the need to protect you from danger even when you can protect yourself just fine, the strange need to wrap her strong arms around you, it all connects to her eventually. Upon realizing the feelings she’s gained she is very flirtatious and makes her intentions with you very clear. She doesn’t like wasting time. You will find though that despite how bold she is, if you flirt back she gets a little shy sometimes. This is a rare occurrence, but it happens! She can be a softie too yknow? She is physically affectionate with you, casually wrapping an arm around your shoulder when you two are talking, whispering in your ear a lot and getting close and personal when she really doesn’t have to. She loves inviting you over to hang with her for games and such, it already feels like you two are a couple even when you aren’t. It’s only a matter of time before she officially asks you out. You may find that during your hangouts she tries to impress you with her strength and tends to brags about her accomplishments. You’ll also find she dresses nicer and even wears makeup occasionally. Her flirtations with you are different than with her hookups too, compliments on how cute you are rather than how hot you are. She wants you to know you mean something to her as well, so on occasion she tells you that you mean the world to her.
Tumblr media
Dabi has not experienced romance, ever. Hookups aren’t in his life either. Dabi had been set on one thing and one thing only, revenge. You’d have to be a real special one for him to be attracted to you, but no matter how special you are it will not deter him from his original plan. He didn’t plan on pursuing you in anyway, but he’s selfish at heart and can’t help himself. He may not try to pursue you romantically but he will try his absolute hardest to form a strong bond between you two. It may take awhile to be vulnerable with you but it will absolutely happen while you two are friends, he will be extremely open with you. He’s open about being touya early in your friendship to show he trusts you whole heartedly, to show he thinks you’re like nobody else he’s met. He would know his feelings, despite the complete lack of experience in dating. He just knows. He looks at you and thinks, you’re the one for him. Out of everyone on this list, he’s one of the more protective ones. I’d say the most if it wasn’t for toga, tbh. You will find he’s around you a lot, like just because he’s so protective but also because he likes to be around you. He cares for you and likes your company. You remind him of the good parts of home, you bring back his humanity. Dabi makes no moves on you, despite how strong his feelings are for you and how aware he is of his feelings. He’s scared to form a relationship, in fear it will go to shit and knowing he’d hurt you, knowing his plan of revenge will end in his death. He’d never want to put you through that. He spends much of his time hanging out with you and it feels like the two of you have been best friends forever. He tends to joke with you and be sarcastic, but always being one that’s there for you when you need it and even give you advice. He’s a true friend but he’s scared to be something more.
Tumblr media
Toga is truly the most obsessive and protective, the closest you get to a yandere. She grows feelings almost automatically, because she feels as though she sees you for who you are right away. She feels like she’s known you forever, she knows she likes you the more she wants to steal some of your blood and become you. If you’re okay with an overbearing insane girl on your side, she’s the lady for you! She acts like she’s known you forever, even if you’re complete strangers. There is no filter with toga, and she acts like you’re already best friends when you aren’t. And when her romantic feelings become apparent, she makes those feelings very apparent and that she wants something more with you. She tends to get up in your face a lot when talking, with a blush on her cheeks, it’s just because she loves being so close to you! Flirting with you and calling you her darling or her love is a common occurrence, even when you two aren’t even a couple yet. She worries for you a lot and is very protective, and after twices demise this protective nature becomes 10x worse. She’s clingy and constantly cuddling to your side, holding your arm or your hand. She has no shame in you knowing her feelings, she just hopes you will stop being so shy and tell her how you feel too! She will absolutely murder for you too just to add onto her yanderish tendencies, not that I don’t think every villain would do that for you though, lol. Also, the moment you meet her she’s inviting you to the league of villains without a doubt. You’re a part of her little weird family now, no questions asked. You become extremely important to her and how she approaches life from then on. (You could actually help her become a decent person if you were aiming to be a hero. You hold so much power by being the object of her affection, lol).
Tumblr media
Shigaraki is determined to destroy the entire world and everyone in it, but even he has feelings. He has feelings towards the league, secretly (or not so secretly) seeing them as his found family. And you, well, in his eyes you are also family but you’re also special to him even in comparison to the league. He isn’t aware of what his feelings towards you are for the longest time, even after the advice kurogiri had given him. He now relies on spinner to give him proper advice, who tells him he feels romantically towards you. Shigaraki is naturally a protective person when it comes to you, not liking anyone getting too close and personal with you, even spinner and toga sometimes. He’s lost a lot and he’s not willing to lose you too especially to some loser that doesn’t deserve you. He’s easily jealous and he’s also easily paranoid you could find somebody else. In his mind, he knows you deserve more than him and the possibility of you ending up with anyone that isn’t him is almost too much to bare. Even if he knows you deserve more, he’s selfish to his core. He likes to play games with you and treats you like a longtime friend, he consistently works on your relationship to make sure he keeps your bond going at all times. He enjoys being close to you and would like to keep it that way and maintaining your relationship. He could talk to you for hours about anything while playing video games with you (Nintendo gamer tingz). As time goes by, he tries to trust you more and grows less protective and obsessive, especially as he becomes much more powerful and much more confident he can protect you if need be. He isn’t bold about his feelings, an occasional shy blush coming from him is the closest you get to him letting his feelings be known. He may eventually approach you, though.

I don't need to, but I'll explain my Bakugou hate because I want to.
Long post. Beware
When I started reading the series I was the same age as the characters. Looking at my interests you can probably guess that I was bullied, but instead of getting all sad, I got angry at the people treating me poorly.
So as soon as Bakugou was introduced, I didn't like him. Seeing someone my age verbally threaten and physically attacking people without being punished just really put me in a bad mood whenever he showed up.
Then certain parts of the fandom got incredibly toxic, and suddenly the author is pandering to the worst of them
But the problem keeps getting worse. The entire world warps to kiss his ass. He got everything he wanted at every turn. He deserved nothing and got everything.
Immediately established as a long-term bully. His bullying is then retroactively justified by the world itself saying that Midoriya is worth less than Bakugou as a person.
Why did Aizawa, who was famous for expelling students, not so much as give Bakugou detention for trying to attack Midoriya on the first day of school?
Why didn't All Might punish him for using that gauntlet in the Battle Trials?
Despite all of his actions so far, just since being accepted into UA, the other students still want to be friends with him. They actively choose to spend time near him.
Why is it never mentioned how him(and Kirishima) attacking Kurogiri and getting in Thirteen's way is a large part of why the USJ played out how it did?
His speech at the Sports Festival
Everyone wanting to be on his team, but he doesn't know any of their names or quirks.
Trying to make an unconscious Todoroki fight back in the finals
Aizawa constantly excusing all of his behavior, circling back to my point about the world itself justifying Bakugou's shitty behavior
Attacking Midoriya in the Final Exam.
How did Sero fail his exam by being carried out but Bakugou passed?
At the Training Camp, he actively tried to go fight the villains that have openly stated were trying to capture him. Making himself an easy target and hindering the people trying to protect him
During the Rescue Operation he somehow managed to hold his own against the majority of the League of Villains on his own? Really?
He forced Midoriya to break curfew and just starts attacking him until Midoriya fights back. It's caught on camera and Midoriya somehow gets in the same amount of trouble?
And for some reason he gets let in on the secret of One for All after being such a monumental asshole since forever, despite the fact that even Inko doesn't know? Or literally anyone who would be, like, supportive of Midoriya?
He failed the Provisional License Exam, but don't worry there's a special make-up class just for the people that made it into the second half. Everyone who failed in the first half will have to wait for the next exam.
Oh wow, flawless victory in the Joint Training Arc by displaying teamwork out of thin fucking air that was really just him barking orders at the others.
For a while we just get his usual brand of egotistical asshole-ery and now being needlessly shoved into places where Midoriya's actual friends should be. Or even any of the other side characters. Horikoshi, give them some screen time
But then the war arc and the vigilante Deku arc all just get down on their knees to suck his dick so hard that his quirk evolves and his heart explodes. And I finally get a glimmer of hope for the series to finally stop shoving him down our throats, but no.
Edgeshot decides that this one kid is so important that he will sacrifice his own life to save Bakugou specifically and no one else is on his level of importance.
Going back a step; That apology was pure fucking lip service. Not a single goddamn thing changed in the way he acted afterward. He had a couple of "soft" moments when he wasn't actively screaming and cursing, but that's it.
And Horikoshi keeps fucking doing it.
Somehow each and every thing has to include Bakugou or be about how it's effecting Bakugou or has to mention Bakugou.
The majority of the (much more interesting) cast has been completely forgotten, and Midoriya's characterization got taken out back, given three rounds to the head, skinned, washed in bleach, and hung out to dry, but Oh Wow! BAKUGOU'S HERE!
I said it before and I'll say it again, I'd throw a brick at him.
These are only the broadest strokes of what happened too. If I reread the entire series I could write a massive in-depth character analysis, but that's too much even for me.

『それは… 明日のおまえら次第だな』 "That... depends on you guys tomorrow."
Shigaraki's said something like this before.
way back, during the Stain arc.
Tumblr media
『そりゃ明日次第だ』 "That depends on tomorrow."
During the Stain arc, Shigaraki was having a fight with Stain over ideals - over whether it was needed at all, whether having Conviction vs. Random Destruction would better achieve their shared goal - changing the status quo. Stain went and did some Extreme Heroing, while Shigaraki unleashed Noumu into the city to cause indiscriminate destruction.
After everything died down, after Stain was captured and the Noumu were killed - after the battle was over - Kurogiri asks if Shigaraki succeeded in his goal. Shigaraki only says that it depends - he won't know until he sees the results and the effects of this fight in tomorrow. Whether what he's done has made any impression, whether it was Stain or him that was correct.
Shigaraki caused all this destruction, hoping that people will take notice, hoping to prove that what he does (brutal destruction) can change the status quo, that what he does will eventually turn to dust 'that piece of garbage' All Might and the society that worships him.
(The Stain fight also ends with Deku in the hospital, vaguely troubled by Stain's words.)
Now, in this final war arc, in which Villains and Heroes were having a battle over control of the future, over destroying everything (because it rejects and harmed them) or preserving everything with some change? (because... well, lives are at stake and so is society as they know it). Heroes defended, while Villains attacked. More specific to Shigaraki, he fought to destroy in order to be a Hero for the Villains.
After everything died down, after the Villains were defeated - after the battle was over - this time, Shigaraki admits defeat to Deku. And so he asks Deku to give a message to Spinner: That Shigaraki Tomura fought to destroy until the bitter end. He did not seem to regret it, and he tried, but he failed to destroy everything. Deku then tells Shigaraki that he actually did - "It's already been destroyed." Shigaraki has succeeded in his goal.
But once again, Shigaraki only says that it depends. The results and effects of this war is pending. Shigaraki caused all this destruction, and-- Did he turn to dust all he hated in society - the rejection, the injustice, the societal apathy? Did he change the status quo at all? Did he manage to be a Hero for the Villains? Will any of the things he did actually stick?
He doesn't know. He can't know, now that he's dead. But he hopes it does, and unable to do anything more (because he is dead), he's leaving it to Deku and the others - "That… depends on you guys starting tomorrow. Really, do your best."
(and now Deku's at the hospital again, vaguely troubled by Shigaraki's death.)
.*.
After the Stain arc, when Shigaraki watched the news and saw that everyone was more concerned about Stain than the Noumu, when Shigaraki realized he failed, it caused him to go and come back stronger. It got him to confront Deku, refine his goal, reaffirm his hatred, and then he came back with the League of Villains, and the rest is history.
We are now in the aftermath of the war. Everything's being rebuilt. Hero Society is back on track. The question is: did anything change? Was Deku right that Shigaraki 'already destroyed it' - and so Shigaraki succeeded? Or did Shigaraki fail, again?
What's going to happen, if he did?
And I guess that depends on Horikoshi, starting next chapter.

Random MHA chapter 427 thoughts (spoilers duh)
Midoriya is a better man than me because I’m not getting called a murderer hatefully by someone who worshiped The Hero Killer. Sir, your idol tried to kill my friend’s brother who’s just a nice person.
“You should make it a comic” is unironically a really cold response. That’s crazy.
It makes complete sense society does not give a fuck about Tomura. There’s a difference between sympathy and empathy; even if they learned everything, it’s a hard sell to make people care about someone who took their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, etc.
I do find it a little obtuse to pin society for people like Tomura and Dabi specifically when the main reason they were such a problem is literally because the personification of evil (AFO) was plotting on these for decades. Yeah Endeavor is major key for Dabi but that boy would’ve burned to death as a child or been found by his dad/firemen if AFO wasn’t being unhinged. Honestly if we’re talking about Hero Society failing anyone specifically by its structure, it’s Toga cause not having any solution for child development regarding taboo quirks like hers is insane. Spinner’s issue essentially racism and that’s a complex problem before hero society. That’s just a societal problem in general! I personally can’t pin that blame on hero society specifically.
I see so many people hating on Deku after reading this and I just don’t get it. The 15 year old boy literally did everything he could and gave up everything but his life for a person who by no means was going to turn over a new leaf and did not feel bad about his actions.
Overhaul has been nothing but a mentally broken/unstable double amputee that’s been in confinement ever since he lost. Don’t really understand why there’s a need to kick this guy more since the villain he was has been dead forever. He’s also objectively done less atrocities and yet nobody seems to feel bad for him. Dude was also an orphan taken in by organized crime too but since he abused a child we got to learn about he deserves no sympathy? Okay. Oh we’re supposed to feel absolutely devastated by Tomura though? Pfft, I’m not. “You should feel bad about Eri forever.” Okay, but can you he do that with prosthetics and a mental institution since Y’know… he doesn’t have a quirk.
Seriously, if the message is “society should do better when it comes to how villains happen” then at least give Overhaul the ability to eat without help. I agree with the idea of Eri not seeing him but like… that dude could rebuild Japan quickly with his quirk. That MF could probably fix Dabi if he tried. Maybe I’m not hero material cause with Eri’s consent, I would’ve negotiated giving his arms back so he could fix grandpa; but before he gets to save grandpa he fixes the country and gravely injured heroes. Does it cheapen some events? Perhaps. Do I want Bakugo and Deku to not have medical problems at 22? Also yes. I’m typically not big on undoing lots of things but it’s not like the heroes didn’t earn a portion of their life back. You can spin it positively. If Endeavor isn’t in a wheel chair, then nobody has to aid him cause I’m pretty sure his wife and Todoroki are just nice enough to wheel him around but they could be doing better things.

Rereading MHA for research on my Rewrite AU made me realize how hypocritical Aizawa really is.
Like...holy crud! It's such a gut punch when you take into consideration that Erasermic (which is a bit toxic canon wise) is what got me into MHA. I’ve been fed Fanon!Aizawa for so long, I was oblivious to the truth. Oh my god.
I initially wrote Stryxxxer (My AU version of Aizawa) hating his past self as a joke. But now...it's becoming more and more like a reality.
Oh yay, I haven't torn down Aizawa in a while >:D
If there's one thing Horikoshi is good at, it's plot manipulation. As in, the way the narrative frames Aizawa, it's so easy to buy into him being a "good teacher." The story is literally shoving that fact down your throat at every turn. I wasn't aware of it myself until I rewatched Deku vs Kacchan Part 2 when I was looking for evidence to support my hatred of Bakugou's character. When you're looking at material with fresh eyes, especially when you're specifically looking for faults in the narrative, you catch a lot more than when you experienced that material the first time.
To sum it up, rewatching/rereading MHA with more critical thinking (and common sense) means you can easily see through Aizawa's bullshit hypocrisy, ineptitude, and double standards.
My absolute favorite piece of evidence of him being a shit teacher is the Final Exam. Bakugou 100% should have failed for being uncooperative and violent with his teammate. And yes, our first instinct is to point out Sero's unfair failure by comparison (justice for Sero), but for me that's not even the worst part. While Aizawa is busy coddling Bakugou and giving him every concession, HE HAD FIVE OTHER STUDENTS WHO CLEARLY NEEDED HELP FAIL. And that's not counting the students who nearly failed because they didn't know what to do because of course they didn't Aizawa doesn't bother to fucking teach!
*deep breath*
Sorry, kind of went off on a tangent there.
To your point of fanon Aizawa, it's actually so jarring to look at Aizawa's canon behavior and then get bombarded with Dadzawa fics. And to be honest I wouldn't mind Dadzawa if so many people didn't bash All Might to make Aizawa look better. Especially because most of those fics perpetuate Aizawa's canon behavior and project it all onto All Might. And it's so prominent in the "Bakugou Katsuki Faces Consequences" tag that there are so many fics that had potential or caught my interest that I can't even stomach to read.
Good on your rewrite, though. Having Aizawa reflect on his past behavior and actually grow as a person is all I wanted from him as a character (and it's something All Might actually does in canon in case anyone needs to be reminded)

I still think it's really crazy that Horikoshi did Midoriya so dirty by having him murder the boy he wanted to save, and, now that he's lost his Quirk, is stuck being lonely for like eight years feeling like a husk of his former self, only feeling like himself again when he gets an Iron Man suit. I'm not a big Dekuhead, but I'm asking around to see what Deku fans think of the writer's choices concerning his conclusion. I'd love to hear your thoughts!! did you like this? did you not? why? etc
as a dekuhead, i agree that killing shigaraki was confusing and i still don't know what the thought process is behind that. like, saving him has always been deku's plan and everything was pointing towards shigaraki rehabilitation but then ... we didn't get it???
so yes, shigaraki should have lived (it aligns with deku's goals and the narrative's goals) and toga also should have lived for similar reasons. i also agree that deku's conclusion should have been expanded upon more — i really wanted to see how killing shigaraki, losing his quirk, etc. truly affected deku, and we were kinda left hanging. but also i sorta just equate that with lack of time / horikoshi being rushed to finish his manga
but i fundamentally disagree with the rest of your ask. it feels like you've developed this opinion based on the 430 leaks and not the actual official chapter; it's just misleading. which i don't blame you for, because the mha leaks scene is fucking awful and has ruined an entire reader base's reading comprehension, which has consequently been perpetuated by the fandom
"is stuck being lonely for like eight years feeling like a husk of his former self"
it's not stated if he feels like a husk of his former self or not. he lost his quirk, true, but he verbally says he's ok with it (ofa was like a dream that he got to live out), and never shows that he's particularly depressed or upset about being quirkless again. i feel like this specific idea is very fandom-coded. everyone was drawing deku sad as fuck for losing his quirk but canonically he appears at most wistful, and normally just neutral. it is what it is, yknow? after all he says himself that he was originally quirkless anyway, so not much has changed.
also he mentions feeling lonely, but i hate this idea that deku has been lonely for 8 straight years. people have twisted this into meaning his friends ghosted him after high school, but like ... how would that even make sense. deku's friends love him so much, will fight at the world's end with him, and he changed their lives for the better. they would absolutely not ghost him. they just canonically don't meet up much anymore, because OBVIOUSLY, when you don't live in the same building as your high school classmates anymore you are NOT going to meet up as much as before. this is just how adulting is. you have responsibilities and jobs and lives now. people hate to hear it but it's the most realistic part of this ending.
"only feeling like himself again when he gets an Iron Man suit"
again, we have no idea if deku didn't "feel like himself" when he was just teaching. and this idea that he's not is fueled in some weird anti-teacher belief that i'm seeing a lot of, now that deku pursued education in his future. in my opinion teaching is a very fitting career for him; he's been inspiring and helping his classmates as a student, and he loves quirk analysis and gushing to others about their quirks.
he's literally training a new generation of heroes, he gets to work alongside pros (such as aizawa), he's constantly learning more about new quirks ... why is this not the deku we've known and loved? what about this feels wrong? just because he's not a stereotypical hero on the scene, he's suddenly a worse version of himself?
mha has drilled into our heads so much atp that being quirkless doesn't mean you can't be a hero. deku was quirkless his whole life but he had the spirit of a hero, and even when other heroes quit during the apocalyptic era between wars, deku was still out there, doing what he could. he didn't need the money. he didn't need the fame. he didn't need the recognition or the credit, even. he just wanted to help people. and being a teacher is one of THE most directly helpful jobs you could take.
from what i can tell, people who complained about teacher deku and "peaking during high school" and "working a dead-end minimum wage job" were all from the western fandom. i have not seen a single japanese fan complain to this degree. it's definitely a cultural difference but also i think they just read better than us. UA is a prestigious school with crazy name recognition and all teachers there are registered pro heroes. even though deku isn't technically a pro, they recognized him as one anyway, which allowed him to work there in the first place. like hello. over everything we should be grateful he didn't become a cop.
the way i interpreted him getting his suit was that
his friends love him so much they pooled their money all in secret just to give him another chance at actual hero work, even though they know deku's content with his teaching job. probably also so they can see him more, now that their schedules might align better
even though he's quirkless, he is still symbolically — and literally — a hero. turning society's preconceived opinions of quirkless people on its head
it had nothing to do with making him feel like himself again. he was doing fine. the suit is just a (very expensive, labor of love) perk.
and before anyone complains about him "receiving handouts" and that "he just lazed around for years until his friends picked him back up with the suit", SHUT THE FUCK UP. he's done so much for them that they felt it right to return the favor, especially to the one guy they know who earned it the most. also - he deserved a break from all of the shit he went through; why should it Not take him 8 years? do you KNOW how much pain he suffered? that amount of trauma lasts a lifetime. all of you SHUT UP.
as a dekuhead, i think his conclusion as a teacher who also works as a pro hero is awesome and cool and i see no qualms with that. my main concern is that we should've gotten more of a conclusion to deku's ARC and its connection to the story, but regarding his future 8 years later i'm totally fine with it. he's living out his dreams, working with heroes, studying quirks, and keeping in touch with the ones he loves. that is epic as hell

Eri’s princess’ guard
Tumblr media
That was kinda uncool, Mirio. Especially coming from a senpai. Just look at this pained, fake laugh.
Inappropriate introduction of Monoma from Mirio aside, I like Monoma’s interactions with Eri because we get to see more of his character beyond its flanderization. During the sports fest, Monoma was quickly established as being a very observant and intelligent person... and then those traits got banned to the backseat in favour of his obsessive rivalry with 1-A.
Personally, I'm not too bothered by that shtick: I read someone's interpretation about how Monoma's "hate" of class 1-A, is just his love for 1-B that comes out in the most annoying way - but it's a pity, that the majority of his appearances got boiled down to mainly that.
However, Monoma has also been shown to be quite sensitive and considerate of other people’s feelings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He elbowed Aizawa - a teacher who's well-known to be strict - when the latter phrased something in a very blunt manner, which might have made Eri sad. He's specifically the one who looked after Eri during the almost riot at UA's emergency shelters. Just like the rest of UA’s students, Monoma is a capable hero-in-training, and a good kid at heart.
Being around Eri gives him opportunities for his dramatics to find a more positive outlet, and to show a gentlemanly side worthy of his design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eri Claus' cuteness making people skedaddle over to her.
I found it very cute how Tokoyami’s eyes lit up, when Eri appeared at 1-A's Christmas party. There were five 1-A kids who came over to the door to greet Eri: Deku, Uraraka, Asui, Kirishima - all who were involved in the Shie Hassaikai raid - and Tokoyami.
I can see 1-A's resident emo-kid having a soft spot for children in general. But to me, his reaction here seemed almost like he and Eri had met each other before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ojiro, it's fine, really! Tokoyami will tell you that Eri's worthy of the sword's power.
Which makes me wonder about their first interactions: Eri is a very kind girl but she’s also a young child who was traumatized by thugs, who constantly wore plaque masks around her. On the other hand, the novels have shown Tokoyami to be a hit with another little girl, who got lost at the amusement park.
Tokoyami talks and carries himself like the plus ultra chunnibyou, but similar to Monoma, I can see his dramatic language being popular with young children. Tokoyami's also very kind and usually on the more patient side. I imagine he and Eri would've approached each other tentatively but became fast friends.
Tumblr media
Tell me this isn't cute af.
To Eri, Deku and Mirio are her personal heroes and older brothers. But Monoma and Tokoyami are her fairytale prince and dark knight respectively.
...
And now I wonder about interactions between Monoma and Tokoyami. Monoma's 1-B vs 1-A shtick aside, I feel like those two might get along with each other well.

"It's my fault."
Huffing, you shake your head. "Stop that," you hiss, turning to Bakugou with a glare; "it isn't."
But he doesn't argue. Doesn't huff or puff, or yell at you for glaring at him or throwing attitude. Any sort of normal attributes that Bakugou displays almost on a daily fall silent and instead, you watch as his eyes flicker across you, taking in every inch, and he just sighs.
"But it is," he says; and it almost doesn't sound like him because of how soft his voice is.
"It isn't," you huff, desperate to make him understand. "I chose to go out there. You didn't make me."
You now you're right. Everything you say is completely and whole-heartedly right... but you couldn't see what he could. Not in the same way. Not in the way it looked to him, and nor could you hear the thoughts that fluttered through his head like millions of tiny little bugs that filled him with guilt and fear and such heavy, immeasurable pressure that this was all his fault.
The large bruise on your left eye, purple and blues mixed together in a nasty welling that had your eye shut from the size of it -- you'd gotten it from a particular nasty punch from a group of villains you'd both been trying to take down. The cuts along your skin, slices, were from one of the villains quirks, knifes that had sliced you apart repeatedly; blood gushing from your skin and tiny little welts that would turn into scars over time.
But really, it was the burns across your arms, now covered in tight, white bandages, that made Bakugou's heart squeeze painfully in his chest; constricting with every breath he took because the reality was, he shouldn't be alive after what he'd done.
When you and Bakugou had been briefly briefed on the mission, still both only in your third year at U.A., trying to make names for yourselves; neither of you had been told about the extremely dangerous and life-threatening quirk at play. The truth was, no one knew about the quirk or the person it belonged to.
An underground member of the villain group you both were tasked to take down -- an unforeseen event that had lead to what Bakugou could only describe as his worst nightmares.
Mind-control. Or something of that sort. Bakugou still didn't know the specifics and truly, for once, he didn't want to know. Didn't want to even have to imagine what else that he could've been made to do, especially to you, had it not been for Shoto and Deku's arrival.
Wounds worse than burns, destruction beyond repair, or worse, death. Bakugou hated having to feel like he owed anyone anything, but he couldn't even deny that Shoto's and Deku's arrival was both needed and a great turnover for the hero-side.
You would've died otherwise. That, or seriously hurt.
Hurt more than you already were and Bakugou already felt like the worst piece of sh*t possible because you were hurt because of him.
He'd hurt you. Set his explosions off on you, been the one to make you scream in pain and cry out for help; cry out for help when it should've been him helping you. Instead, he was the one causing the damage, and it had taken both Shoto and Deku to pull him off of you and restrain him until the effects of the quirk wore off.
And now, left with the aftermath of his own actions, Bakugou couldn't stand himself.
"I hurt you."
He says it with such pain, one that instantly pulls at your heart, hating that you were the reason he was in so much pain.
"You weren't in control of yourself, Katsuki. We both didn't know that that man would be there, nor did we know what his quirk was. There was no way we could've been prepared for it," you explain, shifting in your hospital bed, trying not to pull at any of your injuries. "You have to understand that. I could blame you. I never could."
"Doesn't change the fact that I still did it," he whispers, staring at his own hands; the ones that had hurt you... attacked you...
You reach forward, taking his hands in your own before he can pull away or argue. You tug, enough that it pulls his gaze on you, and then move your hands to his cheeks, cupping them. You hold him in a way so he can't pull away, can't refuse.
"It wasn't your fault."
And his lips part, to say something, but you just interrupt him.
"It wasn't," you say firmly, then, face softening at the rare look of vulnerability on his face, you smile gently; "okay?"
Bakugou doesn't believe it. He doesn't know if he ever will. The guilt inside of him is so strong, the feelings that he'd failed at being the one thing he strived so hard to be and worse, it was because he'd hurt you... it makes him feel sick. Makes him want to rip at his own skin so that he doesn't have to feel this way anymore.
But he's already hurt you enough and you look so desperate, pleading with him to just believe you... and he can't hurt you anymore.
So, he nods, even if he feels sick doing so;
"okay."

MHA 2.18 - The Aftermath of Hero Killer: Stain - part 2
Tumblr media
Everybody is getting permanent damage left and right. How are they going to be heroes if all of their bones are mash potatoed before they can even graduate? :(
Tumblr media
Of course, Iida decides not to heal his hand until he feels like a worthy hero again. Kind of a harsh self-inflicted punishment. But it is sweet that he and Midoriya bond over their injuries and commitment.
Tumblr media
Hahaha! What a goober. I love that we are seeing so many different sides to Todoroki's personality since the tournament fight.
Tumblr media
Gran Dorito puts on a tough guy act, but he clearly sees the same potential in Deku that All Might does. I feel like Deku made a lot more progress with him as a teacher.
Tumblr media
OH SH*T! Wait, wait, wait, how did I not see this coming? So the big bad that All Might fought is still around. Does that mean Deku will have to fight him?
Tumblr media
DUN DUN DUN! All for One? Is his quirk the opposite of One for All, or connected to it in some way?
Tumblr media
Hold up, who took the video, or is it from security footage? There is irony in Stain becoming famous by going viral, when his ideology hates fame chasing.
Tumblr media
I am curious if there is more to his backstory than this. It seems that he was super earnest about heroism and got disillusioned. I wonder if there was a specific event that really turned him sour.
Tumblr media

Is this a fresh batch of hot topic rejects I see? Let me guess. A murderous high school girl? Stain's green little brother? A character from Fallout that escaped the video game? Boy band Frankenstein?

So, after reading and looking back over the last few chapters… remind me what was the point of showing Trash for One being the most manipulative manipulator who ever manipulated? To the point he was Tomura’s Dad’s Drinking Partner? Was it to just deflect all criticism of hero society and be like “Ohhh nooo it was really AFO, he’s the real source of tragedy… and not like the systemic problems that festered long before All Might?
Honestly, I think it was to give Deku an easy out.
Because yeah, the source of Tenko’s problems were societal issues well-established during and prior to All Might’s influence on society. But what’s Deku supposed to do about any of that? I don’t think he has it in him to even criticize All Might’s hero society or so much as acknowledge its flaws, let alone how to fix or improve them.
So instead focus shifted for a bit to Tenko specifically hating his house; y’know, the domestic abuse angle…Which Deku still doesn’t know how to deal with or have anything to really say about. So that’s a flop too.
So then it got changed to Tenko having self-deprecating views on his quirk and how no one would accept him for that, which we learned about that very chapter and makes little sense when you think about it (like, his many villainous friends and followers accept him fine); but hey, at least Deku can do something there…by giving a 2-panel speech about holding hands. This apparently completely erases Tomura’s hated. But also doesn’t actually resolve Tomura’s actual motives so that one’s actually a flop too.
Luckily(?) Deku erasing Tomura’s hatred also brings AFO back to life, who just so happened to also have given Tenko his trauma quirk and may have helped build the house; and Deku may have never grown past being an All Might clone in any way, but any All Might clone can punch a villain. (Sad he can’t save their victims when he does but a hard enough punch makes that problem disappear too.)
And apparently, he punches villains so inspiringly that it causes people to just resolve all those problems that festered long before All Might. Turns out it's just that easy (guess All Might wasn't punching hard enough).
And so, even though Deku basically failed to save Tenko to any real degree from pretty much every conceivable angle, it all just kind of works out in a way that’s really contrived & insulting and Deku still gets to save the day & fix everything by just punching AFO really hard. That was the point of bringing AFO back as the biggest bad behind everything.

Something something Bakugo’s friendship with Kirishima is actually such an interesting contrast to his relationship with Deku and makes the way he treats Deku really stand out
Yes Bakugo is an asshole and a bully and he always has been, but he’s always treated Deku SPECIFICALLY way worse than anyone else? And when you look at the bond Bakugo and Kirishima develop, as well as the rest of the Bakusquad, it makes his weird hateful obsession with Deku stand out even more cuz you can’t say Bakugo is like this with everyone, we’re shown that he’s not, he’s ONLY like this with Deku
And that makes it soooo suspicious like if I was in class 1-A I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from pointing it out. I’d make Bakugo confront (his gay repression) whatever it is about Deku that gets under his skin the way no one else does.
Anyway I understand shipping Bakugo and Kirishima, but tbh their friendship just makes BakuDeku seem more canon lmao
Anyway something like that

I'm sorry, I'm fixated on The Walk because it has seemed like such a pivotal point in Shigaraki's life, and in the story. And then when it finally came time for Deku to save Shigaraki/Tenko... it gets relegated to two measly panels.
In Chapter 69, Shigaraki reveals his resentment of basically the entire world for being so carefree when they know, logically, someone is out there suffering - "someone, somewhere...is off killing people, for whatever reason... these fools keep smiling and laughing... living their lives."
Tumblr media
Later, building on this idea, he realizes - and states out loud to Deku - that All Might annoys him because All Might has created a false sense of peace. Plus, All Might himself smiles so bright and cheerful, as if he's invincible, as if he can and has saved everyone: "The reason these fools can smile and live their lives... is cuz All Might's always got that grin on this face... Smiling wide, as if to say... There's no one he can't save!!"
Tumblr media
Paired with a flashback of a severed hand, much like the ones Shigaraki wears, the implication is clear: Shigaraki resents how no one came to save him when he had a quirk accident that killed his dad/family; moreover, specifically, he seems to hate the bystander effect - that tragedy and suffering can happen but the people around such incidents can just not give a single crap. There are people in trouble, but the majority of the world doesn't bother to help, because they think Heroes will take care of it - All Might, especially, has made them feel like it's just not their problem.
This was before Shigaraki regained his memories, but his life since the amnesia hasn't really disproven any of that. He was picked up by AFO, a Villain, first of all; but he would later create the League, all members of who have clearly suffered from something and was never saved - not by Heroes, but also not by people who are supposed to protect them, like parents and family, and not by their fellow humans.
Tumblr media
There's a reason Shigaraki targeted Bakugou to kidnap and recruit - he saw someone who seemed to be restricted and suppressed, literally bound and gagged on live television, a thing allowed and even awkwardly laughed at by the people around him. All Might was smiling as he presented a medal to the clearly upset boy. And so he thought Bakugou would understand.
When Shigaraki remembers his past, his memories also don't disprove the bystander effect and his hatred of it either. In the house his father built, everyone saw he was suffering, but did nothing. They never stepped in to stop Kotarou’s harsh punishments; in fact, they only ever come to him in the aftermath to try to coax him to stop crying - essentially telling Tenko that hey, they aren't going to stop the actual problem (Kotarou), but they will try to make Tenko accept it. As if it's not their problem, but rather Tenko's. Tenko says that all he needed was just to hear a word of encouragement from them, but they couldn't even give him that.
Tumblr media
All this passivity in the family eventually leads to the moment when Kotarou slaps Tenko hard - twice! - and yet his mom and grandparents only stood by and watched. (Afterwards, they apparently also allowed Tenko to be forced to stay outside, crying, until nightfall.)
Then, of course, is The Walk.
Tumblr media
Dozens of people saw a clearly-distressed lost child walk past them, and did nothing. Tenko at that moment is tragedy and suffering made manifest - he's a tiny little boy, alone, scared into silence, bloodstained, barefoot on concrete in a city. He's not hidden away or in some unknown corner of the shadowy edges of society - he's there in front of everyone, in broad daylight.
And no one bothers to give a crap. Or, even if they do, briefly feeling troubled at the sight, they look away. The one lady who did try to help ends up deciding this was above her pay grade and explicitly states never mind, Heroes will take care of it. Everyone at the scene feels it's not their problem.
(And the thing is - Tenko knew he deserved to be saved. There's one line that always stuck out to me: "I thought maybe the reason no one helped me was because I was being punished for killing my family."
Tumblr media
Tenko knew he did something bad, he was feeling immense guilt, so much that he was rendered mute, but he wasn't expecting to be punished then and there - he hadn't written himself off. Not being helped wasn't a foregone conclusion yet. He killed his family, but he wanted help - he knew he should be helped. Basically, it wasn't immediately, "I did something bad, so of course a Hero won't be here, now I need to run away and hide" - it was "[I did something bad, but] somebody... anybody, just me tell [what to do]. Someone help me." The idea that he deserved being ignored because of what he did seemed to have only come afterwards.
This is why, I believe, in Chapter 365, Inner Tenko thought, "I wasn't broken back then... but it's not like anybody reached out a helping hand to me. It's not like anybody even looked at me."
Tumblr media
Two of the flashbacks are scenes from after he did a Bad Thing - Hana running away after he killed their dog; the old lady turning away, after he wandered into the city post-massacre. He did a Bad Thing, but "I wasn't broken back then..."
There's also the flashbacks of the family pre-massacre. Scenes of his grandparents trying to pacify him, of his mom looking sad, of Kotarou being angry with him - all likely because Tenko was in trouble for talking about Heroes again, which was against the household rules, but wasn't/shouldn't be a strike against him. He was restricted and suppressed and couldn't fit in with the family, but "I wasn't broken back then..."
All those people in his family, on the streets - none of them ever helped.)
The Walk is the ultimate embodiment of his long and ongoing issue of Heroes and regular people doing shit nothing. It's the exact complaint Shigaraki was giving in Chapter 69. It's completely damning.
Tumblr media
This is what Shigaraki means when he says "everything I've witnessed..." in Jaku in Chapter 281 (and again in Chapter 379). He's seen it all - how there's all this pain, but Heroes have not done anything about it. And because Heroes are pillars of the community - because Heroes are civil servants, essentially representative of the governing system - the regular masses of citizens both follow their example while also becoming complacent. Now they just smile and laugh, living their lives, as if Heroes will and should take care of everything and all will be and is fine.
Early on, Shigaraki put most of the blame on Heroes and so focused most of his plots on them - the USJ attack and Camp Raid were on Hero students - but he very much disliked the civilians and their bystander apathy too, and was already starting to make plans to destroy the system that enabled that. It’s remembering the Shimura Household Dysfunction and The Walk - the lack of help, the rejection, all civilians that passed him by - that really solidifies his hatred and conviction, causing him to fully embrace destruction - his attacks post MVA doesn't target just Heroes, but everything and basically everyone.
AND YET. Barely any of this shows up when Deku comes to save Tenko in Chapter 418.
In fact, it starts in Chapter 417, when Nana and Deku intervene in Kotarou's slapping of Tenko. The rest of the family is noticeably absent. The only thing Deku and Nana needed to do was stop Kotarou. That Tenko also had an issue with how the family kept taking Kotarou's side and abiding by the abuse? Not relevant anymore, I guess.
Tumblr media
(Also, Tenko actually does believe he's broken, been broken from the start for being born with Decay. He even wonders why Deku would come help him. Somehow "I wasn't broken back then... but it's not like anyone even looked at me," has become "I'm broken and who could ever look at me given the way I am?" Note additionally that Deku doesn't actually discourage this notion. He only says "Well, I'm here to take your hand and give you peace.")
Meanwhile, The Walk is no longer part of Tenko's origin - or at least, not significant enough to warrant a Memory Environment. Yes, it's true that stopping and saving Tenko at The Massacre means Tenko wouldn't go on to walk The Walk, and I suppose you can argue that technically the issue of bystander effect has been solved since someone did finally show up to help. Deku didn't have to help, but he did. He made it his problem to figure out why Shigaraki seemed so sad inside, and he reached out a hand.
But like. The Walk is still a thing that happened? It's still a problem? All those people still ignored a five year old? Deku saving Tenko doesn't mean the old lady suddenly gained a backbone and conscience to not walk away. In fact, it just makes it even more 'not her problem' because after all, a Hero did show up! She did exactly what she was supposed to do - nothing.
Tumblr media
It’s just not addressed. To quote @stillness-in-green, “Shigaraki gets way more dangerous to the common civilian after he gets his memories back, and it's a real crock that the story doesn't address that specific turn and what causes it, instead retrenching to "The Slap Bad; AFO Bad.””
I don't like Deku much, and I probably would've rolled my eyes at it, but I did really think Deku would get to be at the memory of The Walk, and he was see all these civilians ignoring Tenko, and he would be gutted and horrified, and maybe he’ll hear what the old lady say about “the police or a hero or somebody will help” as she leaves, and he’ll think something like ‘that's right, a Hero should be helping… but that doesn't mean all you civilians can't even ask if Tenko’s okay and walk him to a police box’, and he would chase after Tenko to save him, and maybe even say something like ‘What you said at Jaku about civilians being coddled. I know it too well that they didn’t want to get dirty. They're trying to support Heroes better now, but they should also support each other. We should all help each other. Let’s change things. I’m here now.’ Because it would make sense and provide a conclusion to this whole thing???
But no. Shigaraki wants to destroy because Tenko was sad he was born with an evil quirk and because of that he doesn't know how to love himself and so the source of the problem ultimately lies with himself. Deku is here to validate his existence so Tenko can feel better that someone accepts him so he can learn to love himself and stop all this nonsense. Except wait it turns out AFO gave him Decay and also turns out AFO manipulated his life since even before his conception so who knows what's even real anymore. Maybe the people on the streets really wanted to help Tenko but AFO made a gas leak fill the city with Asshole Gas and so no one helped and Shigaraki has been operating under a gaslit delusion for the past 15 years and his grievance against bystander apathy is completely invalid. Bummer.
The series hasn't ended yet, and it's possible that the Walk will still be addressed. I've seen it theorized that civilians will show up to help stop AFO and finally save Shigaraki/Tenko like he had wanted all those people on the streets to do all those years ago.
However, without the problem explicitly stated or even known - Deku never sees the family passivity, and he seems to have only caught glimpses of The Walk (and of course has no reaction/introspection/opinion on it) - this feels unlikely. Plus, the recent chapter hasn't filled me with hope or inspiration. The best the civilian could do was offer an All Might t-shirt. That's not exactly "I won't assume a Hero will take care of it and I'll take action myself"; it's more "I'll trust in Heroes even more to take care of the problem." I know that's not exactly fair, in that fighting AFO and helping a lost child are problems of very different magnitudes. But the fact the story hasn't given the civilians an opportunity to ‘redeem’ themselves, so to speak, in the latter case kinda proves my point, I think.
So far, the story seems to think that Shigaraki's issue with passivity and complacency is actually irrelevant. Or has been solved by Deku. Who took on the immense task of saving Shigaraki because he possesses a drive to save others that eclipses all common understanding. So Deku is special, and thank god someone so special existed to save Shigaraki. Because otherwise, Shigaraki wouldn't have been saved. Due to the majority of people being passive and complacent. Which isn't a thing that needs to be dealt with.
(Or, I guess you can say that it was All For One who planted the hatred of bystander effect into Shigaraki/Tenko (if he didn't somehow manipulate the people on the streets (and the Shimura family, previously) into ignoring Tenko), since he did say “Everyone just passed by, pretending not to see, thinking some Hero would save the day. Who decided to make the world this way?” when he first found Tenko. So even that hatred and grudge isn't ‘true’ and we can dismiss it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

I love Bakugou, easily in my top 5 anime characters, but ever since he came back from the "dead" I have been getting annoyed by him.
I understand that he's conlisinsantly at #1 in the popularity polls, but that's no excuse to constantly bend backwards to ensure he gets portrayed in a positive light and the final arc was full of that.
Its not his fault ofc he's just a fictional character, but everytime I think about how much panel-time was unnecessarlyy wasted on him and how it could have went to other characters that needed it more or plot-lines that could have saved the ending of the manga I just...........like sometimes catering to fans who only care about one character/one ship isn't a good idea.
all offense but this is a bit silly and all offense AGAIN but whenever you guys complain about bakugo "taking away" other characters' space, i am genuinely wondering which characters you guys are thinking of, like sorry but we don't need more of mirio or kota or eri or mina or invisible girl and such, bakugo is the deuteragonist of bnha so idk why y'all think he's taking up too much space ("wasting...) when this is his coming of age story!! deku's growth is linked to bakugo's they are a duo, so please spare meeeeeeeee
i think a lot of readers turn on important and good characters because y'all like to root for underdogs or sth
and i can say a lot about horikoshi, but one thing about him, he does notttt cater to the shippers (y'all haven't seen real yaoi bait i fear), if you read bnha in one go , you can tell that he had a very specifics story to tell about his duo and he stuck to it. i don't think it's his fault that they got so popular, and the fact that bakugo happens to be very popular (a menace i know) does not negate the fact that he's one of bnha's strongest narrative tools, so tbh this kind of hate always feels forced to me
stories are not talent shows where everyone should get a chance to shine; bakugo is a protagonist, so obviously horikoshi is gonna devote more attention to him i really don't understand the issue tbh
