Any general thoughts on/relating to the Brobot?

Have my half awake scrawlings...

I really love the brobot!!!! People really misconstrue it and also leave it out in a lot of dirkjake talk? Its a big player in not only how dirk expresses his affection/desire towards jake but also in their multi year spanning unspoken game of gay chicken 😭😭(all of dirks splinters are but Not about them rn)

It was sent yknow under the pretense that jake loves wrestling and wished so bad to have somebody he could wrestle with. But at the same time it protects jake from the horrors of hellmurder island (seen before they strife), pushing jake into the Damsel in distress role he wasnt expecting to play even before all the shit in the game, with Dirk being his hero.

Jake says he keeps it on a high difficulty because apparently in the Novice mode he says their interactions become "too tender" and doesnt want to elaborate, Friendly reminder! His convo with jane on the SAME DAY dirk pulled off that big romantic overture and the kiss happens and him and dirk begin "dating".. is the same day he asked jane if it didnt make him weird for wanting to date dirk. And he also says hed joke around with dirk about how theyd soo make a great couple if dirk were a girl haha.

I imagine the brobot and well. Getting physical like that with a robot that supposedly looks like dirk probably gave jake his internal gay awakening at 13 but he just never wanted to actually confront it and instead just wanted to brush past everything 😭😭 (See: every single time sexuality or romance comes up in relation to jake he is literally always thinking about dirk somehow and he never directly talks about his attraction to men or how that reflects/contradicts on his self image of the Movie Star Hero guy)

and jake doesnt actually hate the thing either, he tells jane he thinks it genuinely did improve his fighting capabilities (Which we see it did in collide! he beat basically the whole felt with guns and fisticuffs alone, no hope powers.) Which serves as a pretty evident parallel to dave who also is good at fighting, even if he doesnt want to be. (see dirk + dave convo)

This one comes from hussies authors notes in the aradiabot and equius scene (which equius imagery being invoked with dirk. something i could totally rant about another time haha) but yeah. Jake was being selfish asshat in that log forcing jane into a corner and wringing what he wanted to hear out of her, and also not giving a shit about the brobot (Which served as his protector and only other semblance of human connection since he was 13 and was a BIRTHDAY GIFT FROM DIRK) KILLING ITSELF? But hes so preoccupied talking about dirk. THE REAL DIRK. And immediately after jake loses the dirk splinter that protected him, HE (AND DIRK) CREATE A NEW ONE FOR HIMSELF USING THEIR COMBINED POWERS/?

Hussie is lying.. somebody Does care about dirks feelings. a whole lot to the point they activate their powers unwittingly Because of it. and its jake. but jake just cant admit that himself. (He cannot admit his real feelings until given permission to, dirk would have to concede the game of gay chicken first using his words and not just actions)

ANYWAY. hussie is so right its so easy to get sidetracked times one million talking about this comic. BUT AHH!! BROBOT. his existence.. tragic.. Jakes really smart in knowing that all of dirks splinters enlighten aspects of himself he doesnt oft share, and the brobot served as another dirk action on the pile of dirk actions he engineers to signify his deep immense care for jake, where he lets these grand gestures and implications sit out in the open without ever actually saying what they mean and where his feelings lay.

EVEN IF ITS SUPER OBVIOUS. The d man cant use his big boy words to actually describe his feelings despite how much a yaps! so jake doesnt know if hes even allowed to say anything about his own. Fellas: Is it gay if you labour for supposedly an extended period of time to create a custom robot in your own image to ship in pieces to your best bro guy crush who is HUNDREDS OF YEARS IN THE PAST because you cant be there yourself?

I think this hal message says enough about how bad dirk wished he could visit jake 💀💀

Do you ever start writing a response, intend to save it as a draft, and then accidentally post it in its incomplete form at 3 in the morning? Anyway—

So these are the vibes: there are typically two types of mad scientists— Dr. Frankensteins and Dr. Jekylls. Scientists who experiment using other people's bodies, and scientists who experiment on themselves. In this, with Fang dead and Max unable to move on, I see her taking the role of Dr. Frankenstein, cloning Fang and then falling into the type trap as the doctors that made her, wanting her creation to stay still and contained and where she can see it, so her friend will never be hurt again.

Before this, I think Iggy left. I think he heard Max's plans, and he loves her, he loves Fang, but the best way he knows how to show love is to let them die. So he takes the flock that will join him— maybe Nudge, maybe Gazzy, maybe all three— and leaves before he has to witness what his friends will become.

And before this, he was running his own experiments. The best way he can show love to his flock is not to alter them, even to save them, but he does not extend that love to his own body. He is Dr. Jekyll, willing to peel apart his own body to make it into something better.

So he's on the run, with his part of the flock. Maybe the rest are with Max. Maybe the rest are dead. But eventually, if he were to hear Max succeeded, Max created a clone, and he hopes that she'll stop there, but he also doesn't put a lot of stake on hope. So he makes himself stronger, in whatever ways possible, in case she comes for the rest of her flock's DNA and marrow; while Max keeps her porcelain doll safe, in whatever ways possible, in case her flock comes to take it from her. She begins to look more human, more civilized, in her white coat and nitrile gloves, while Iggy looks less like a person and more like a corpse, or a monster.

There is no Mad Scientist Duo; there are only Mad Scientist Rivals.

ok but what if: mad scientist max fighting against her science-based trauma so that she can learn how to resurrect/clone/etc. fang because she can't go through life without him but she sure as hell doesn't trust the whitecoats to bring him back, least of all jeb

You sighed loudly as Kayla continued blabbing, hoping your study partner would get the hint and stop reiterating her 3-second-long interaction with James Buchanan Barnes, the school’s star quarterback and flirt.

“And then my friend Riya was like ‘oh my god Kay Kay, he’s literally flirting with you-”

“That’s great, Kayla, but could we back to the flashcards by any chance-”

“He’s just so goddamn hot!” She squealed as she brandished the stack of notecards around in the air, earning glares directed at both of you from a couple other studious students occupying the library’s tables.

You sunk down in your seat, pretending not to know the lululemon-clad girl in front of you who was basically buzzing with excitement. Of course, studying with Kayla would not have been your first choice, and you definitely weren’t her top pick either, but you two were each others’ only hope, considering the fact that the rest of the kids in your anatomy class were always either high, drunk, or both.

“It should be illegal to look that good,” she said as she looked off into the distance with glassy eyes and fanned herself. Her eyes lit up as she turned her eyes back to you and straightened up in her seat. “And guess what?”

You didn’t have time to guess before Kayla continued rambling on.

“My friend, Lynn, saw him at the gym shirtless the other day and took a picture,” She gushed as she pulled out her phone. “Wait, lemme show you. He looked so sweaty and delicious.”

You grimaced, reaching over to turn her phone off in the middle of her search. “I’m good, thanks.”

“Your loss.” Kayla snapped her gum obnoxiously before her eyes lit up again. “Oh, and guess what?”

You just grumbled in response.

“So you know how my friend’s brother is on the football team with Bucky, right?”

You had no idea who this friend was, much less who her brother was, but you nodded along with Kayla as you felt the headache creeping in.

“She told me that when he came over to her house during spring break to hang out with her brother, he snuck into her room and they both spent the entire night together.” Kayla’s eyes sparkled with a mix of envy and excitement. “In the room right next to her parents.” 

You couldn’t stop the words that vomited from your mouth. “Bucky was at his parents’ house up in Brooklyn with Steve for the entirety of the break, Kayla.”

“Oh.” Kayla’s eyebrows furrowed, and you were glad she was more focused on the discrepancy in her friend’s story rather than your sudden burst of knowledge.

“Sorry,” you cleared your throat awkwardly. “I think your friend lied to you.”

“Don’t be sorry,” Kayla waved her hand with a blinding smile. “This is a good thing!”

You arched an eyebrow at her.

“I won’t be breaking girl code by dating Bucky now, since my friend never actually had anything with him!” 

“Oh . . . okay?” Not like that would’ve stopped you anyways.

Her phone pinged, and she looked at it with a smile, standing up to collect her stuff (which was just her Starbucks drink and a singular highlighter). “Alright, I gotta head back to my apartment and get ready for my date tonight.”

“Oh?” Surely it couldn’t be with Bucky. Right?

"Wow, a date?" you replied, trying to sound nonchalant even as your curiosity piqued. "With who?"

Kayla grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "With this guy I met at the gym last week. He's super cute and really into fitness, just like me!"

That was exactly what you were expecting her to say, but a weight was lifted off of your shoulders anyways.

“Have fun.” You smiled in relief.

“Thanks, babes.” She blew you a kiss. “This study sesh was so great. I learned a ton.”

As she sashayed away, you decided not to bring up the fact that she got through a grand total of exactly three flashcards.

With the shake of your head, you gathered your own belongings and headed out the library as quietly as possible, almost as if you were trying to compensate for the ruckus that Kayla had left behind.

As the cool spring wind breezed through your hair and birds chirped in the cherry blossom trees above you, your phone vibrated continuously in your pocket.

You struggled as you fished out the phone, mentally cursing out all the textbooks you decided to checkout. However, the slight frown on your face was replaced with a grin pulling at the corner of your lips as you brought your phone to your ear.

“Hey, baby.” The familiar low of his voice brought a chill up your spine. And it wasn’t from the wind.

“What do you want, Barnes.” You were certain he could hear the goofy smile on your face.

“Aw, you sound congested, doll.” He coddled you through the phone as you rolled your eyes. “Are you sick? Allergies?”

“I’m sick of hearing about you all day.” You emphasized with a smirk, after taking a moment to genuinely sneeze. Damn pollen.

“Well, can you really blame ‘em for talking about the most charming guy in town?” He laughed on his end of the line.

“Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that, Barnes.”

“What was dear Kayla telling you this time?”

“Just the usual. Something about you being shirtless and glistening in sweat at the gym.”

“Damn. I should start charging her for all the conversation material she’s getting out of me.”

You snorted, but little vines of jealousy stretched around your heart. “You should run your own little side hustle. You’d make thousands.”

“I like the sound of that. Maybe I’ll throw in some autographed headshots as well.”

“I can already picture the line of people stretched around the block.”

Bucky chuckled on the other end of the line, his laughter warm. "Hey, I'll have you know, I've got quite the fan club," he teased, his voice playful.

You couldn't help but smile, despite yourself. "Yeah, well, they clearly don't know how insufferable you are," you replied, your tone teasing.

There was a brief pause before Bucky spoke again, his tone turning more serious. "Hey, I miss you," he confessed softly, and you could hear the sincerity in his voice.

His words tugged at your heartstring. “I miss you too, Buck.”

He seemed to immediately notice the softening of your voice. “You got anywhere to be tonight? I’ll come by later with some pizza.”

“What-” You almost tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. “Barnes, are you crazy?”

“What?” You could imagine his innocent expression through the phone. “Am I not allowed to visit my girlfriend?”

Bucky visiting you wasn’t the problem. The problem was that you lived right between Faith Robinson and McKenzie Gonzalez, the biggest gossipers on campus, not to mention the nosiest neighbors. When one of them would inevitably see Bucky strut down the hall to your door in his tight henley with a box of pizza, the whole student body would hear the news before you could even open the door and let him in.

And having the entire school know about your relationship was the exact opposite of what Bucky wanted.

Right?

“Don’t be a smartass. You know exactly who I live by.”

“I don’t give a damn about who sees us anymore, baby. I just need to see you.”

You took a moment to process his words. You could imagine him holding his breath on his end of the line. “Oh.”

Really? The moment you’ve been secretly hoping for is here, and all you can say is ‘oh’?

“‘Oh’ in a bad way or ‘oh’ in a good way?” Bucky chuckled nervously.

The vines turned into butterflies and fluttered in your chest as you giggled. “‘Oh’ in a . . . surprised way, I guess,” you replied finally. “Yes. Yes, I would love for you to come over.”

Bucky breathed out into a cheeky grin. “Okay.”

“Okay.”

Neither of you were good with words, but you didn’t need them. You understood each other perfectly.

Alright, I am like 90% sure there is ONE line in A Novel Experience touching on Gale GTFOing rapidly, so I don't think there are answers in there for me. So I come to you and ask-WTF went on between Gale and Drow???

Alright, so

There are two versions to what happened to Gale in my first campaign (the OG DU drow campaign that this whole universe is based around), lets begin with the technical version. As I've only somewhat recently come to understand, my Gale was bugged. I had 1 interaction early in the game that slightly veered into romance which didn't go anywhere, and first chance I had I clarified that I was not interested in him that way (the whole reason why It happened in the first place was because i misunderstood his dialogue). Despite this, and despite me turning him down in every romantic interaction following, I kept getting them and my interactions with him were as if we were romantically involved. I even got one exchange (the one about muscles glistening and cheeks flushed) twice, and rejected him both times.

So, later in the game once DU drow and Astarion sucessfully 5d chess-ed their way into falling In love, I was surprised to still be informed i had to "break things off" with Gale if I wanted to get with him. Which I did. And he gave me a whole spiel about it.

Now it's crucial you understand this was early in the game's release, I went into it completely blind and I had never played a game like Baldur's Gate before, so I was not familiar with the mechanics at all, which... Kind of led me to believe Gale was just like that normally.

From that point on I was highly amused, but for roleplaying purposes I decided my drow would have been highly annoyed and a little creeped out. And so I proceeded to be extremely rude to the guy at every chance I got. This eventually resulted In him pursuing the crown of Karsus despite me (rudely) telling him that was a very dumb idea.

The second version of what happened, as I already touched on above a little bit, Is the Narrative one. As I mentioned I had no clue what was and wasn't supposed to happen, so I just... Went along with it within the role-play.

So our beloved DU drow gets worms. He goes on a grand adventure with this weird possy of people to find a cure. When the tiefling party comes everybody except Astarion wants to get into his pants (because I left him on the beach for like a week and then proceeded to be The Rudest to him, sorry babe, I didn't see your pale ass and the asshole dialogue options were Really funny).

Someone else who Didn't seem to wanna fuck him was the wizard. He said he just wanted to show him a magic trick and he (and, I'll admit, me) really thought that was just that. The scene unfolds, Gale tries to teach DU Drow to cast a spell but his 9 intelligence says No. The unsolicited date ends abruptly because Gale is upset that a champion fighter without a single cantrip makes for a shitty wizard. DU Drow thinks thats the end of that - It's Not.

Then what proceeds to happen is a long, annoying, somewhat unsettling dynamic where Gale continually tries to pursue him throughout the game, coming to the point where the guy I'm Actually interested in thinks we are together - and when DU drow tells him verbatim that he had no idea they were even a thing in Gale's mind, he has to hear him whine about it. Add to that the fact that all Gale talks about is his ex-girlfriend, DU drow is (kind of justifiably) led to believe he must be a Profound weirdo to whom he cannot ever say even a Neutral word to again lest he becomes any more infatuated with him - 0r whatever the hell is going on.

Whether it be DU drow's own inflated ego or the actual truth, when Gale begins to pursue the crown he also assumes he's just doing it to spite him - so he isn't the kindest to him about that either.

And within this narrative that I concocted around a simple bug that didn't let me end a romance, I cannot imagine Anyone getting on particularly well with Gale within my main party. Drow thinks he's madly in love with him, Shadowheart is probably a little confused but she trusts DU Drow's word on the matter more than the Wizard's, Astarion thinks... What Astarion thinks.

So, no, they didn't part on the best of terms.

Before anyone gets mad, I assure you - I've completed the game again since then, I realize this is Not the intended Gale experience. He's a hysterical and deeply interesting character and only Slightly clingy and weird.

But, you gotta admit, this is way funnier.

It is has not been uncommon to hear that our beloved idol Y/N has been attending the F1 Grand Prix's when she can. She has been open about her interest and love for the sport that had started since she was young and living in Australia, much thanks to her mother. For the past months, she has attended the Australia, Monaco and Barcelona Grand Prix. At the Monaco GP, her closest friends and group members of BLACKPINK Jennie and Lisa attended with her, Jisoo was unable to join them due to the flu. Her go-to team is Mclaren as she is often seen in their garage and actively chatting with driver Lando Norris.

Into this newfound friendship...or possibly more? The driver Lando Norris has been leaving friendly comments since her first attendance in awhile at the Australian GP but he has grown more confident and so has she. Just recently for the Barcelona GP, Y/N and Lando Norris were spotted hanging out outside the tracks with a small group of friends as seen in PHOTO TWO. The lucky fans that spotted and snapped a picture has commented that, "they both looked very friendly with each other [...] Lando kept looking at her with heart eyes almost [...] both of them left together while the others stayed".

These new speculations on their "friendship" had only gotten much more active after Lando Norris posted to his alternative instagram account based on his interest of photography and PHOTO THREE was posted in the photo dump of his race weekend in Barcelona. Fans of both Y/N's and F1 pointed out the hair and the similar hand and jacket in the photo--our dear Y/N. There are also speculations that this was NOT the same day as the hangout of friends, rather a different day...and perhaps a different kind of date 😉

Let's not forget the suspicious comments her closest friend Jennie has left on her instagram especially after the comment from Mclaren, "You have amazing taste"...to which Ms Jennie Kim replied in korean, "It goes both ways 😗". Fans believe Jennie might been insinuating that a certain driver (Norris) and Y/N have good taste...or should we say, interest within each other?

Though, so far, not much has been found if this is a beginning of the soft launch of their relationship or simply a flirtatious and playful friendship between the very two different yet similar people. Let's just look forward to Y/N's upcoming project and for the F1 fans, enjoy the week break!

In your opinion does "The Owl House" have any re-watch value? Does the story, characters, characterization, writing, etc. hold up over repeated viewings or is the show played out after the first time through the series?

So I want to acknowledge that this is actually an awkward question. Not with how you phrased it or anything just... Period? Because whether something is rewatchable will mostly come down to personal taste and enjoyment. Some people find Horror movies to be great fun to rewatch while others may not see the point because you already know all the scare moments or answers to creeping dread. Some might find action movies exciting to rewatch while others need the novelty of a first rewatch. As such, my answer is very much so is going to be biased by the fact that I ended up not liking the show.

But... I broke essentially on rewatch in a way. A lot of people have shattered on TOH essentially from having to reconcile what it says versus what it does. A lot of this because TOH constantly kicks payoffs down the line and hints at potential it will reach. It is constantly making the journey suffer for the promise of a grand finale. And, well... A lot of people have agreed that the shortening did not force their hand to break multiple themes in the finale, or take Amity's character or a bunch of other things that bloated the series and never got a proper payoff, such as the Collector.

This format of TOH I think is actually what makes it so hard to rewatch unless you are the ultimate fan of it who will notice nothing. S1 is labeled as boring, a complaint I even agree with as someone who mostly likes S1 still. It spends the most time setting up plot lines though in episodes that are a pretty safe seven out of ten, or worse. Amity episodes can escape this problem decently often, being fun in their own right, but that's why the fandom only acts like half, at best, of S1 even exists. Most of it is easily forgotten because it's very forgettable. Not like in a S1 of Amphibia way where it's all so much fun but also so much of it that they can blur and be hard to separate but just in a "I just wasted 20 minutes of my life watching an okay kids cartoon" way. The only thing that helped those episodes not feel that way was this idea that it was building towards something with these characters.

And... After the shock of things like the Lumity Kiss being real, I don't think S2 holds up for being the majority of those payoffs. Amity and Willow? One of the most explicitly kicked cans? Seen interacting on the same side before either addresses the "We're not friends' thing because of Eclipse Lake, so that's pre-shortening and they still didn't decide to address and then address it badly. Luz's magic is wrapped in a plotline she's not a part of and has no real reaction to even. It's just "Oh, we're just making bullshit up now instead of finding glyphs? K." Amity's parents are wrapped up, in the same episode, early S2, in a very similar way where Amity is barely a part of that episode but now her core angst and excuse for being a bad person? Dealt with and out of the way, at least until they randomly decide to try and say Alador TOOOOOTALLY wasn't a bad guy. That he hated Odalia too. Totally doesn't contradict literally everything that came before, something that would be much more sharply noticed on a binge rewatch. Like... It cannot be understated that by the point most plot threads in TOH wrap up, they were introduced and left to rot for so long that half the time, the fandom was starting to get UPSET during the runtime for the lack of any exploration or conclusion. Long hiatuses didn't help but at its core, even when it was running people were wondering when we would get satisfying answers to thing and rarely were they happy about it.

I think this is a core part of why ONLY the shipping community seems to have clung to TOH. That or people who are exploring the show's missed potential with characters like Belos or the Blights. The fandom has had to either commit to the one thing TOH did do well, its shipping (that comes with so many fucking asterisks) and its potential baiting. But the latter also means you have to recognize why it failed in the process of doing your exploration of the work.

So will some people enjoy rewatching it? Of course. There are people who probably like rewatching the AtLA movie though because the die hards are die hards. Do I think from a casual perspective you get much out of rewatching a random episode, let alone binging the series again?

No. I just think disappointment that the main series will leave you, which will eventually no longer be tempered by the reputation of it having been shortened, will only get worse. It is not a tale worth seeing again, so I hope I see you in the next one.

1, 4, 25 for both Josh x Erra and Josh x Jiub!

Hello! I have answers... though it is rambling again. I'm just in the middle of writing a chapter introducing both ships so...

1. How did they meet?

Josh x Erra

Technically the two passed each other in Suran but didn't interact outside of Josh watching him walk away whilst astounded that he let a merchant overcharge him for dried kreshweed. Their first official meeting was a few months later.

Josh, after spending the past two months gathering information for Caius Cosades on the Nerevarine Cult, was finally instructed to go meet with its spiritual leaders. Of course, in order to do that, he needed to actually find where they are camped. Josh might look Ashlander but he knows next to nothing about them. He wouldn't even know where to begin looking.

Cosades, naturally had no clue either. Which is why he had Teldryn meet with Hassour Zainsubani in the first place, so that he could get this information. Zainsubani offered to get in contact with a Velothi guide who is from the tribe he was looking for and see if he could gain an audience with their Wise Woman. The contact agreed for 200 drakes.

The meeting is set up at the Andus Tradehouse in Maar Gan, just to the north. All Josh had to do was get there on time.

You have 0 chance of getting him out of bed before noon and that day was no exception. He ends up being eleven hours late, arriving well past nightfall. Much to the chagrin of his would be guide.

Erra is fuming and admittedly a little tipsy. He is about to turn down the contract when his client finally stumbles through the door. He's charged his mind around the time he takes his helmet off.

He's glad he did.

Josh x Jiub

These two shared a cell together for about six hours on the prison ship they were being transferred on. Josh saw Jiub as a threat and Jiub just wanted someone to talk to. It resulted in Jiub trying to awkwardly get Joshi to engage in conversation and Josh trying to ignore him.

Josh falls asleep for the rest of the trip. He's starting to suffer from a severe infection after his nose was broken during an escape attempt when he was being transferred from the Imperial City to the Anvil Docks. Some bright spark put unenchanted shackles on him and he exploded as soon as his magic came back. Got knocked out after receiving a sword pommel to the face that had a sharp edge to it. His nose got broken in the process and he wasn't given any medical attention. The gash along his face got infected pretty quickly. By the time he's thrown in the holding cell with Jiub he's too weak to fight back if he needs to, and the starvation isn't helping. He basically tells the guy to fuck off before falling asleep.

The two share a more pleasant conversation after Jiub wakes Josh from a nightmare. He watches Josh being dragged out of the cell a few moments later. Seemingly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It would be a few months before they run into each other again and six years until they actually get together.

4. How would they describe each other if asked? Physically? In personality?

Josh on Erra:

See that guy over there? The Velothi with the copper hair that refuses to grow longer than his shoulders. Best fucking archer I've ever seen. An like I know fuck all about that stuff, I know, but you tell me you aren't impressed when he skewers a cliff racer through the neck mid death spiral?

Like it's amazing, I have no idea how he does it.

His favourite animal is a sheep but he's never actually seen one. He just adores the texture of the fabric you can make from their wool. I um, I forget that he's never left Vvardenfell sometimes. He's never had the opportunity to see one since they aren't on the island.

I drew him one when we first started travelling together. He still has it. He keeps a lot of my scribblings. I'm embarrassed to say I draw him a lot. It's his eyes. I know he's got your typical Ashland colouring, grey ring around the outer edge of the eye but you don't see it outside the tribes unless you count the odd Telvanni with a smidgen of Ashland ancestry. It's how the nomads can tell I'm not fully Ashlander, I don’t have it.

Erra’s remind me a lot of sunsets over the wastes. Brilliant vermilion against grey.

I'm lucky.

Erra on Josh:

I am constantly worried that he is going to hurt himself doing something stupid. If I am not there to stop him from acting on his whims then he is going to act on them out of boredom. It is why I love him but ancestors I do worry.

I worry about the burden put upon him with this prophecy. He is sensitive deep down and I know this weighs in him. It is why he does silly things. I have had to stop him from antagonising that Daedra in the settled people's temple yesterday and I am very tired. I know he is tired too, but this is because he struggles to sleep.

I have noticed that Teldryn fairs better if I wrap him in my arms when we sleep. He is far taller than I. It is a trait common in his father's tribe. I picked him for an Erabenimsun the moment he took his helmet off.

Still he does have nightmares quite frequently, though he sleepwalks far less since my aunt gave him a few enchanted rings to wear on his fingers. He still wakes up disorientated, his long, beautiful dark hair a mess from all the thrashing.

I let him rest his head on my chest on those nights and hum to him. He calms down most of the time.

He is beautiful when he sleeps. I know he is...unhappy? I think? About how he looks, the scars from Corprus changed him yes, but nothing about it changes how I feel. It does not bother me like he thinks. I wish I could make him understand that.

He puts up a front that is designed to drive people away. This is all it is, a front. Teldryn is not unfeeling despite how much he says he is. I've read his journal. I know that is him.

Josh on Jiub:

You know, I'm surprised he wants anything to do with me after the way I've acted in the past. I kinda have a habit of reading the situation wrong an fuck me sideways did I read the situation wrong!

He's got unlimited patience when it comes to my shit. Like who let's some drunk, suicidal loser like me in their apartment. I've tried to pull a blade on him twice! Three times if you count me forgetting that I'd lost my shiv on the boat.

I don't actually remember what happened that night. I tried cutting my finger off and then some, I don’t remember throwing that bottle at him though. Guy got whacked in the head pretty bad. Though he insists it's because he's blind on that side... it's still my fault and he let me stay with him anyway.

I have to admit, I always seem to be at my worst whenever we run into each other. There's a comfort in the familiar. I'm thankful a familiar face scooped me out of the gutter that night.

I mean I was an asshole about it. I know, but I think my heart calmed down somewhat when I recognised his big, bald head!

Jiub isn't usually the kind of guy I go for usually. I have a thing for redheads after though I adore the shape of his nose. I always have. Even when I was terrified of him back on the prison ship. He's physically bigger than me. We're the same height, but he puts muscle on by winking an I just can't seem to do that. I mean he doesn't forget food exists so that probably half of it.

I still can't believe he puts up with me.

Jiub on Josh:

I didn't think he liked me at first. He is a combative one but I can't blame him for it. Anyone would be if they'd seen and done what he's done.

I was surprised when he turned up in the alleyway behind my apartment. See I am slightly embarrassed to admit to having followed his progress in the papers back home. The Nerevarine was the topic after all and if im honest, I was a little jealous. Not of him but of his husband. I had feelings for him not long after meeting him the second time and knowing I never had a chance killed me a little inside, I think. I still followed him anyway. I even have one of the paintings made in his image. Does not look like him at all.

I mean if you just described the Nerevarine in the loosest terms possible, sure it could pass but it just wasn't him. It missed his imperfections. The things that made him well...him.

Teldryn's scars had been left out, and his nose was straight. The portrait had the tattoos and his colouring was fairly accurate but he was missing his more pronounced Velothi features. He hates that part time most. By now, the Dissident Priests had erased much of the Ashlander involvement in his story. He described it as "any dumb fuck with dark hair and a stupid face tattoo." I'd laughed at the time but it inspired me to include his story in my memoirs as a gift to him.

He deserves that, at the very least. The gods have done enough.

25. If a stranger saw them together, how would they describe their relationship?

Josh and Erra

A Dunmeri commoner in Maar Gan sees two Velothi wandering about the market place arm in arm. The shorter, red haired one seemed to be steering things as he led the taller mer about the place. He'd place items in the basket the tall one was holding and the Dunmer herd him complaining in a strange mixed Redoran and Cyrodiilic accent. The shorter one would just sigh and shake his head at the other before dragging him to the next stall.

It seemed that the taller, louder one preferred being led. Though he was apparently the one who had requested to go shopping according to the conversation the Dunmer overheard. He doesn't quite know what to make of it.

Josh and Jiub

An Imperial legionare is watching a celebration take place from his vantage point in the guard tower. His eyes focus on a pair of Dunmer watching the fireworks.

The thinner one lights up a cigarette and slumps against the other's chest. The larger elf, who seemed to be the older of the two makes a comment that sends the other into a huff, putting out the cigarette and pouting like a child. The older elf sighs and kisses him as the sky lights up.

The leigonare isn't surprised to see public affections going down but he's also meant to be breaking them up so he leaves his post to confront the couple. He just hoped that they would be civil about it.

Chapter 44- Part 5

Hm-? So out of those eight Badges he has, he really doesn’t have the Standard Badge yet? Hah, that’s something Xera has over him! Go her!

Does he…not know about the stuff with the Orphanage and what Connal’s been up to…? I mean I doubt he’d be any more sympathetic if he did know, but he might feel…slightly different if he knew about Connal’s collaborations with Team Meteor. Just slightly. And this is the same guy who complained about not being allowed into the Grand Stairway by those police officers- take some initiative, man! I know you’ve got those vigilante ambitions too!!

…Okay I know he’s just saying that to be a jerk to Xera, as per usual, and he doesn’t actually know about what she’s been through as of late, but considering what I’ve said before about the Heather stuff, calling Xera “bad at her job” is an accidentally perfect/appropriate insult.

Really trying to go for that Gary Oak catchphrasing, are we?

Well, gotta say, that was a nice reprieve of a battle after all the chaos Noel threw at me- I needed that. I also need that Healing Shard- and then we’ll be off!

Now THAT’S an even better reward! Xera’s gonna have so much money soon! And…what is going on over there?

Oh, there’s two of them! That works, uuh- I guess we’ll try and break up this right one first? If we interact with the Tauros, maybe-

I don’t like that either, but a couple Rock Slides should get Tauros down to low enough HP and hopefully Crater won’t die in the process!

Yeah, see, that helps too- paraflinching our way to victory, truly.

There, never doubted this plan for a second! Now I’ve got two Great Balls here, and one of them should be just fine for this.

Toro’s just Spanish for “bull”, but I couldn’t really think of any other fitting names for a bull Pokémon and it sounds cool enough, so- yeah.

Uh?? Okay, I can investigate that in a little bit- for now, it’s time to catch the other half of this duo.

Same strategy as before, have Glare paralyze it and…it shouldn’t know any Psychic or Ground attacks, it should be safe for Glare to stay in.

and wow, the plot thickens! it seems we’re hurtling right towards the foreshadowed duel between prince and rebel! (i’m putting my money on ▇▇▇▇.) i must say, though, i really love the contrast between the ways in which you developed mc’s chemistry with both contenders. while her interactions with yeonjun all take place in romantic, grand and/or dreamlike decors, her little moments with taehyun are often set in bleak, humble and/or dangerous places. there’s also, obviously, the fact that yeonjun is so expressive about his feelings and taehyun, so reserved about his. it should feel like one has an edge over the other… and yet! and yet, the romance never feels like it’s unequally distributed. (although i suppose taehyun and mc’s “pay-off” has yet to occur? it appears to me that it did sort of happen in the last chapter, since making himself understood is his biggest struggle and he did, in fact, manage to make his intentions clear for once... but then he fucked up? what was the “pay-off” of yeonjun and mc’s romantic storyline, btw? to me it would seem like the part where he kneels in public but idk how everyone else perceives it!) either way, i find that mc has as much tension with taehyun as she does with yeonjun and only a fantastic writer could achieve such mastery. i don’t think i should be reading this for free. oh, i also love how the notion of “promise” was brought up several times in part five. the subtle references to the star seekers lore in your own lore are *chef’s kiss*

oh my gosh i was so excited to see this ask when i woke up 😣 my weekend has been nice but a lil busy because i’m preparing for a trip! i’ve never tried grilled chestnuts (i actually have no idea what a chestnut tastes like) but now i want some. they sound so cozy and all i can think of is that one christmas song line about chestnuts roasting over the fire 🙂‍↕️

things are definitely getting more tense between taehyun and yeonjun. yeonjun is NOT afraid to overstep and taehyun… i can’t say what i want to say here 🤭

i’m so glad that you guys are able to feel the difference. i tried to be very intentional in the portrayal of the two different lifestyles that MC leads when interacting with the both of them! i hoped to make the reader feel the difference in the scenes to subconsciously sort of feel the same way that MC feels, loving the wist with yeonjun and then brought right back down to earth when interacting with taehyun. i think there’s also something to be said about how MC doesn’t really tackle or think about her problems with yeonjun, but when she’s around taehyun she usually is forced to contend with them.

i think that the payoff for taehyun has definitely not come yet, and yeonjun’s (in my opinion) comes a little later as well. you’ll just have to wait and see…. >:) yeonjun’s confession scene was definitely a massive payoff, though. maybe the ‘big’ moment between them, but i’m not 100% sure, we’ll see how things happen 😭

also PLS😭 TSFAWC is going to end up being around the average fantasy novel length when it’s done, i feel it :,)

You hadn't been traveling on the road that long with the bots, but they had already shifted your view of synths as a whole, just slightly, in that short time. You had been so surprised by how human they were. It was unexpected to you from the synths you'd seen and met, until you were staying with them.

It was small at first, catching them practicing their music. Actually practicing, and making mistakes. You had thought that it was just something they could do and were programmed for, but you had learned quickly that they had taught themselves how to play their music, their instruments. That they actively wrote and changed the music. It was fascinating to you, the way Aurora cursed after messing up a riff and then slowing himself down to play it slow and work through it. When Twi would play too hard and accidentally drag a sour note from his guitar, or accidentally snap the steel strings that they then had to fix, going easy the next time. Seeing Umbra re-play sections until they were satisfied that it was perfect, pushing themself hard enough that they almost shut down because they forgot to charge, but just had one more bar to do.

That had just been the start, and that had made you look closer at them as a whole which is what had you finally see the mannerisms that weren't learned or programmed, but just simple were. Synths could have subconscious actions, who knew?

Aura talked with his hands a lot, motions large and in constant movement going faster the more excited he got. His whole body would follow suit of his hands, rays spinning like a fan as he bounced around the space, sometimes leaving the ground for seconds longer than normal from those shoes of his. You'd even seen him knock things off counters or smack one of the others with his movements, and each time he'd be surprised, like he hadn't even noticed he was gesturing so much.

Twilight was more subtle than the Sun, but you noticed the seemingly subconscious mannerisms in them too once you were looking. How their hat always emoted with them and never seemed to be still, how they'd move their fingertips in the rhythm of one of his riffs, or even how he would slightly sway or rock when having to stay in one spot for long periods. Twi often hummed, not even realizing he was until it was pointed out to them and you'd even caught them on a few occasions flapping his hands over an art project, his hat following suit.

Umbra wasn't subtle, but simply more subdued it seemed. Their actions were never big or grand, but they couldn't be covered as something else either. Their rays were in constant movement, the magic they ket the metal afloat above their faceplate beyond you but mesmerizing to watch as they spun and pulsated. They'd always carry their drumsticks tucked in their boots, and you'd later found out it was so they could spin them and do fancy tricks when thinking or needing to get out energy or stress. You'd even found them finger or foot tapping on occasion, usually when deep in thought.

It was cute all their mannerisms, and you realized early on it had endeared you to your newfound companions, and found yourself mimicking some of their actions yourself subconsciously.

It made you happy to see that they were more than you had initially thought, and it saddened you to think that others would never get to see that realness and have their perspectives changed like your own had been.

Maybe with time it would happen, and you hopped it would for their sakes. The world deserved to know synths were so much more and you hopped maybe you'd find a way to make that happen someday, to have others see them how you now did.

Hey just had a cool thought, but as Traveler Gaii was born into a family of hunters, it makes sense if Gai's original patron god was Tsume and/or Kiba. Do you think he ever saw either of them, or because he wasn't born in Tonika, the gods are WAY less involved with humans, so he never saw them.

Or maybe because its Gai, maybe he attracted the attention of gods naturally, whether he meant to or not. Now that he is out of Tonika, maybe he actually runs into a lot of new gods he never got aquainted with before.

Like him going over a snowy mountain and helping a village that got damaged in an avalanche, and maybe his kindness attracting Haku, who helped him find the people who got stuck under snow.

Or Gai crossing a dessert only to run into Baki. I almost Imagine him catching/trapping one of his lizards because its sandstorm was going to destroy a normadic tribe, and Baki showing up and being all "as impressive as that was- you let that back to me right now."

(Gai: sorry. *hands over lizard immediately* just trying to help.)

Gai travels across a grand city and after another heroic deed, ends up in a party setting with B, and Jiraiya where they drink the night away.

Gai traveling through the mist and almost completely being ransacked by Zabuza, and maybe only a good word from Haku was what let keep his life...

He enters a cave at some point, where a creepy and dangerous Kabuto decides to test the hero and try and trick him into getting him something, that leads to an artifact that can grant immortality. Gai ends up besting him, barely, and getting away with the artifact, which he knows should never be used because the cost is too great.

Just Gai on his adventures, interacting with different gods he normally never interacts with, creating quite the stir in the world due to his countless deeds, and getting the gods gossiping because there's a "new" hero in the world, and they don't get too many of those. Maybe his many deeds will one day play a part in the gods unanimously agreeing with him being granted god hood...

(And Kakashi rushing over to each location while dragging Obito by the foot and being all "HAVE YOU SEEN GAI?!" And each god pointing and saying "Well I saw a guy. You just missed him." *cue cussing from Kakashi and Obito as they continue their own quest!*)

Ohhh, loving the image of Gai just running into all of these different cool gods.

Especially loving Baki because as someone who is usually connected to Kakashi, he really can't meet Baki so this is his only chance. Like, when Kakashi and Obito go to that area Kakashi has to hang back or there will be tornadoes everywhere and Mito is not having that shit in the dessert again. it did not end well last time.

Gai just impressing all of the gods, many of whom had missed out on his original deed and only heard about his victory against Madara through the grape vine. Making a name among them with new deeds and overwhelming humanity/kindness.

Also thinking of him meet Hana instead of Kiba or Tsume while he's still back with his family, because he never really gets into hunting and is more likely to nurse an injured animal back to health (though as he grows and finds confidence and understanding with his father's teaching he does begin to hunt when he needs food or his brother's are ill/injured). Getting to meet her three dogs and loving them, but also saying something along the lines of 'for some reason i expect more' which causes Hana to roll her eyes because ofc Kakashi had to outshine her on having all of the doggos

Feels like it's been forever but we're finally getting back to the Silva family fight between the children and Acier. More importantly, back to my man Nozel receiving the medical attention he so rightfully needs. I honestly should've expected Paplo to show up and provide healing again, but that really knocks out my personal wish of having some Black Bulls like Vanessa (& mainly her), Charmy or Grey flying in to come assist Noelle with the battle against mother dearest and interact with the siblings, but alas, Paplo is here being a reliable servant as always so can't be too mad at the poor guy. Kahono is nearby helping with some healing lullabies as well so Nozel is in good hands.

Heaven knows why I'm only realizing this now, but the fact they're both fighting with lance type weapons is sweet is a odd mother-daughter kinda way. I know Noelle's original valkyrie dress was styled after Acier's steel version but yeah.

These long months between chapters is really doing damage on my memory.. but all of Lucius' paladins have been using two different types of magic, yeah? Or at least given more than what their main attribute was, since sister Lily naturally has water but was later shown to use spatial as well. Regardless of what's right, seeing Acier use water to further overwhelm her family that mainly consists of water users is lovely, like a sweet punch to the gut.

Tee-hee~ more bird shaped spells coming from a Silver Eagle captain. How very on brand.

We then cut to Solid and Nebra still feeling completely shook and scared about the grand duel that's raging on in the sky. While Solid comments how Noelle continues to grew even stronger, he doubts they could still win against their mother. Nebra of course notices this strength too and thinks back on all the times she only faced opponents she knew she was capable of easily beating, so the idea of facing Acier undoubtedly terrifies her. Both siblings come to realize how very weak they've truly been, by taking their royal status at face value and by sitting back and badmouthing Noelle when she's the one who has been pushing herself through every harsh situation and improving herself to be accepted and live another day. We're gearing up for more redemption in the Silva family and if their moment is even half as good as Nozel's then I'm so ready.

And we're getting off to a great start as Solid jumps in to save Noelle from one of Acier's attacks. I think he summons up a water eagle to take the hit instead if I'm understanding what's happening here correctly.

Looks like Nerba puts up some sort of mist barrier/smoke screen to give Solid some cover to make his move too. Or perhaps it's a spell to hinder Acier? I really dunno, but whatever the case, it's working to some degree. Also, Fuegoleon's words still coming back clutch. I assume it's Noelle thinking of it now, since it was her Fuegoleon spoke them to? Or the quote is just there for us readers to remember. Either way, it really is such a powerful line from him.

I actually really love that Solid & Nebra don't wanna act like the past never happened and simply be forgiven for it, whether it be them referring to all the pain and sadness they've given Noelle over the years or how pitiful and arrogant they've both acted, but they want to accept and take blame for their actions instead and work towards improving themselves.

OUT OF THE WAY Y'ALL! Best boy is here and fully recovered, thank god! Even though it's no mystery that Nozel was nearby watching the fight whilst healing, his words just further confirm he was listening in to everything and I can't imagine how relieved and proud he must be feeling to hear his other two siblings finally turn over a new leaf by accepting and helping Noelle.

Not sure what kinda luck I've been blessed with but the fact we got two chapters this update so I didn't have to wait and see how the Silva family brawl would end fills me with great joy so I shall begin the next rambling now. Huzzah.

i finished breath of the wild (loz for those who don't know) and before I get to totk i wanna at least talk about the casual/subtle/built-in misogyny in the game and get it off my mind

1) the first i noticed directly was how purah OFC wasn't allowed to be an old woman. two old women in a game? naahhh that's crazy, let's make the one that's a scientist a loli stereotype 🤪 "sure she has the body of a cutesie 6 year old (that looks nothing like the other children in the game) but she's ACTUALLY like 120 sooo :P" plus that stupid stance thing that she does with that noise is so fucking... weird i can't stand it. why couldn't she just be a wise old woman?

2) backing up to purah's village and family, let's talk about her grand niece Paya. complete fan service right off the bat. that noise she makes when you start a conversation with her is straight up pornographic. and she's nervous around men. and she's in love with link. there's NO other personality we could give her nintendo?

3) Mipha. also in love with link. she dies lol ofc. very soft spoken and is a healer. again whole personality is being in love with link. there's some side notes about her connecting with van ruta really well but majority of her story is about her love for link. 😐

4) all the female zora are in love with Prince Sidon. he has a fan club. except for one:

(and also one female zora that is married and got so carried away with fishing she forgot about her family. she kinda slays so I'll give them that but getting to my point)

5) one of the younger female zora; a side quest you're able to do is ssaauurrr weird. so the zora age slower and live longer than the hylians (humans) and there's a female character that wants to find love cuz she doesn't have a thing for Sidon like the others. she sends love letters down the river to some guy she's corresponding with. they meet once you complete the side quest and he's an adult human with a child female zora. but it's okay cuz she's a late bloomer. 😰 also also side note there's another female zora not in love with Prince Sidon, she's in love with link. or was. she got married after link went missing but like CMOOONNNN

6) zelda's entire damsel in distress character. others have worded this better than me. also in love with link and was completely "useless" until "her love for him" unlocked her powers. not when like, her entire kingdom and her father and all the champions died that was chill ig. NOT MY MANLET KNIGHT ESCORT NAAUURR. i never thought i would start to dislike link ever but here we are.

7) the great fairy/ies. but this has been a thing. and they kinda slay. but still it's kind of weird to be in what is considered a child's game.

8) the rito. the males of the rito are known as flying warriors, skilled in archery. the women: their singing 😐 literally give me a break here. both male and female birds sing. at least majority of the children in the village are these sillay girls but that doesn't make up for the fact that all they do is sing. and stay home. and cook. and like,, stand around.

9) the gerudo is just......... like they could be SO COOL but that's not allowed. for those of u that dont know the gerudo are an all (most of the time) female race (one male is born every 100 years)(oh and btw when he is born he's like hyrule wizard hitler very cool not racist at all when u look up the gerudo (only sometimes tho i think to be fair)) and they strictly forbid men from entering their village. sounds kinda cool right? yeah that's where that stops. a majority of the gerudo talk about marriage or men in general. the female children gather up at some point in the day and when you interact with them, they're talking about marriage and falling in love. the gerudo leave their village when old enough and go out to find a husband. the older gerudo women are portrayed as lonely and regretful. and of course there's the whole thing of link either having to sneak in in most games or CROSSDRESS like in botw to get into the village. but it's for the good for the world or whatever. oh and btw, in botw the male that link gets the crossdressing clothes from has the same voice sounds as the only other gnc male, who is largely portrayed as gay. verrrrryyy interesting stuff here. very subtle.

10) the gorons. okay I like the gorons. just silly guys. but that's the thing there's no female gorons. i forgot their origin and lore but they're basically rock creatures and are very big and buff. and nintendo couldn't make a female character like that 😱 so there's just no female gorons. im sure it's explained away but bruh.

I see your tags about the rendubs divorce arc + Ren running off with Bdubs' ex + Bdubs declaring himself king because he can do it better, and I hear you loud and clear

But I am now here with a counter offer, aka you got my thoughts spinning and this relates to a fic I started but never finished because writing angst makes me too sad. (this ask that ended up way longer than I thought it would oops)

What if renthubs polycule (or some flavor of poly hermits i'm not picky) where the three need some time to mentally recover and process the whole king arc. Ren goes to Doc, Etho goes to his single player world and Bdubs goes to Empires.

Doc ends up helping Ren get through his anxieties and fears after being king, including his dynamic with all the people in the rebellion and the feeling that his friends and partners would hate him for everything, which is of course not actually true. And I think that Ren is the type of guy to process things relatively quick and be able to bounce back. So once he is more stable, he follows everyone to empires.

Bdubs runs away through the rift and declares himself a god on Empires, which shows you about how well he is (not) coping with everything. To me, he is the type to loudly declare that he's over it, but he ends up festering the emotions, particularly when no one else is really talking about the king anymore. He's fine, why wouldn't he be fine, he's a god. (side eyeing joel here as well after dl)

Then Etho. Hmm. I think he isn't as bothered by it by the other two but I'm not 100% sold on that either. There has to be a certain melancholy to knowing your partners aren't in the best headspace and not really being able to do much about it. And the guilt about fighting against them and having to be part of the group to kill them. The third life memories would have to be coming in at full force. It may be lower stakes on hermitcraft but I don't think that matters when the memories are that emotionally charged.

I think that in the chaos of the empires collab and then the start of a new year with new projects and tcg and everything, the three don't really get a chance to sit down and talk. Bdubs is hiding away in the monolith drafting up visions of another grand castle base. Etho and Ren see each other more often with tcg matches and, through a number of casual interactions surrounded by other hermits, decide that maybe it would be time to talk. And there wouldn't be a better excuse to talk than a big project.

So the boat race idea is born. Etho and Ren go out to the ice spikes and scope it out. They end up around a fire made of some spare wood and end up talking well into the night. It starts out with plans and slowly ends in a heart to heart, where they finally express their struggles with everything and their commitment to each other going forward. They fall asleep cuddled together in a sleeping bag under the stars.

And bdubs is still festering. He doesn't stop long enough to realize. His days are filled with planning and designing and gathering materials. He works himself to exhaustion so he is too tired to think about who and what he is missing. He's fine. He builds a throne room.

Em you have no idea how insane this ask made me I am. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

GOD! GOD! You are soooooooo right about how they would each react and recover/not recover tbh. And its like - Ren isn't 100% but he's like. He's getting there and being up and moving around will help him out - and Bdubs just. HHHHH Bdubs throwing himself into his work to hide from his woes while putting on the 'I'm FINE! ACTUALLY!!!" im ill. And Etho just having. No clue really god bless him he's looking between the two of them and trying to figure out what the best way to approach everything is.

GOD and then the way you thought about rentho bonding and finally talking bc of the TCG and then going out to build the boat race while bdubs unknowingly is festering back home im hhhhhhh. I am normal about this i am so normal. [They should. play clocks against each other in the tcg where they bond. For no reason. ]

Imagine coming back from having a boat race and doing fun stuff out in the ice to find bdubs having completely thrown himself into an insane task without break and its like. you've gotta figure out how to approach it he cant just fester but he's closed off and hiding behind work to not have to address his feelings. I am normal I am feeling soooooooooooooooooooo normal.

Absolute Shameless Lying Edutainment Commercials from the ‘80s

I don’t know why it suddenly got into my head to talk about this, but I just randomly remembered these two commercials I saw when I was very young and what serious BS both of them are. First we’ve got The Sweet Pickles Bus.

So the actual product here is what I’m pretty sure was an honestly shamelessly overpriced plastic box containing like, half a dozen flash cards with letters of the alphabet. Pretty sure you didn’t even get the whole alphabet. Which is such a huge waste of money. No child wants a plastic box of flash cards, no parent wants to buy that. Wasn’t really a reasonable price either. But that is absolutely NOT what this commercial was selling. What we CLEARLY SEE here is a promise that your box of crappy flash cards is going to be HAND DELIVERED BY SOME KIND OF MUPPET DUCK DRIVING A GIANT PICKLE BUS WHO WILL PERSONALLY PLACE IT IN THE HANDS OF YOU, A SMALL CHILD, AND YOU WILL HAVE A LITTLE INTERACTION. That is something I could, and in fact did, beg my mother to pay for like the snot-nosed little toddler I was until she caved.

And guess what? There was no bus. There was no duck. They just shipped this box of garbage through the regular mail. I think my mother made the really bad call of trying to keep up kayfabe and insisted that the duck was in a hurry and I missed him because I was asleep which gave me a haunting regret for years. And the thing is, it honestly wasn’t that plausible that this was legit. It’s not like, a cartoon duck here. You can customize a van, you can get a mascot costume. This might have been a weird local thing because local ads were a thing back then. Kind of a birthday clown business model, you know? This is why a few years later commercials for toys and board games started really covering their asses with stuff like “game cards do not actually talk.”

Like yeah, free floating living cartoons are not going to burst out of this cheap game, even a small child should get that, but they absolutely could have had a guy in a duck suit drive a delivery van around. That’s straight up misleading.

The other one popping into my mind today though is freaking Muzzy. Does anyone remember Muzzy? This is Muzzy.

So like... that really is not, in fact, French those AMERICANS are speaking. That’s not even proper French Muzzy is speaking. This is butchered French gibberish I have to assume was the result of people looking up one word at a time in an English to French dictionary. Transcribing it, we’ve got:

“Je suis, le grand Muzzy.”

“Je suis la jeune fille!”

Literally, one word at a time, that’s:

“I am, the big Muzzy.”

“I am the young girl!”

Even in English that’s super weird and awkward but like... this is not at all how French is structured. This isn’t even something you need to be a native speaker to know, this is like, literal day one high school French knowledge.

First off, I would never, ever say, in French, “Je suis Violet.” I would say “Je m’appelle Violette.” Literally that’s “I call myself Violet,” with the explicitly femme version of the name. “I am” is reserved for like, a type of thing/person you are. Also, adjectives always come after the nouns they describe, and even in the right order, “la fille jeune” kinda suggests that she’s the ONLY young girl. In English you’d say “a young girl” here and that does translate across, so that should be “une fille jeune.” Which is also still just a weird thing to exclaim but at least it’s proper French and not gibberish. I’m not even totally sure what they were trying to have Muzzy convey. Was it a nickname? Was there some sort of small Muzzy he needed to distinguish himself from? Is this some kind of Bigger Luke thing? Regardless it seems pretty clear these tapes were thrown together by someone with just no actual qualifications at all, and they drilled it into a whole generation.

I don’t have any sort of larger point here, just, wow screw these hucksters who plastered ads all over like, Nickelodeon 40 years ago. This is awful.
