you learned some practical magic when you were staying in Fontaine, a brother and sister duo on the street eager to teach you what they know. they even gifted you with a set of your own cards before you left- "A favorable token from the Great Magician and his assistant!"- and promised to visit Liyue sometime. Foul Legacy peeks over your head as you shuffle the cards, chirping curiously at the whimsical designs full of diamonds and teardrops and cats here and there. you raise a card for him to inspect, Legacy curiously sniffing the small square filled to the brim with intricate patterns and numbers on the corner. with a small smile you tilt the card, flicking your wrist- and it vanishes, your fingers wiggling in the air to invoke little sparkles, and Legacy lets out a surprised, amazed trill, bumping his face against your hand and gently nibbling your skin to try and find where the card disappeared to

magic tricks become a favorite rainy-day activity, Foul Legacy chittering and nudging you until you laugh kindly and sit down, his body curled around yours as he rests his head in your lap. you actually end up learning even more magic back at home, not wanting to bore your sweet Abyssal moth monster with the same tricks every time- not that he really minds. just seeing you make things vanish and reappear and picking the correct card and even simple flourishes when shuffling your deck makes him rumble with delight. if you're willing, he'd love to learn some tricks to do himself, even if he's bigger and sharper and clumsier than you are. you'll be a good guide, your hands gently holding his, and vaguely the thought of impressing Childe's siblings pops into his head, knowing the muscle memory will remain. besides, Childe ABSOLUTELY wants to learn magic tricks as well... he gets bored at Northland Bank sometimes, after all

Wyll is so fucking funny and no amount of acknowledgement about this could ever be enough. He's literally walking around being so casually hilarious completely under-the-radar. He calls Halsin a "thick hunk of an elf". He once accidently implied that he was fucking an ogre instead of killing it and then proceeded to absolutely stumble his way through explaining. He gets excited by Lae'zel talking about carnal pleasures. He canonically tells his pessimistic thoughts to shut the hell up. He volunteers to babysit Shadowheart's hypothetical werewolf babies as long as she gets him gloves. He tries to give Gale a hero moniker like his own. He jokes that his father, the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate, can't spell. He calls Astarion "Mister Fangs". He makes up storybook chapter names for his own fucking adventures. As a child he got chased by the Flaming Fist for stealing fruit, nearly drowned trying to find mermaids in the harbor, and almost successfully broke into the Counting House. He reads monster erotica, and is not ashamed to tell you about it. He ranks eating pudding among life's greatest moments. He will, without shame and completely unprompted, meow at you. He is 24 years old.

i've noticed just how often achilles' dragging of hector's corpse is framed mostly as an act of extreme disrespect, or only some brutal show of triumph. personally i think that's underselling both achilles' intention and what the trojans must be thinking as they watch it happen.

hector's corpse is divinely protected so it can't be damaged by the greeks after death; all that effectively happens in the iliad is that his body gets dirty. but under normal circumstances (and i'm not gonna impose realism on mythology, but the iliad is famously detailed when it comes to bodily trauma), the physical reality of dragging a corpse along stony ground for miles would be severe disfigurement and dismemberment. first the skin would wear off, then soft tissues, then extremities would start to detach. i think the iliad's original audience would be aware of that as an intended outcome.

achilles (who doesn't yet know that hector's body has been granted divine stasis) doesn't just want to parade his enemy's corpse around, he wants to tear it apart ("i only wish that this fury inside my heart would drive me to carve you to pieces and eat your flesh raw..."), he wants it to not resemble a human anymore. he wants hector's blood and flesh to circle the city of troy. he wants to make it impossible for hector's family to gather the pieces of him to cremate and that way hector's spirit won't find passage into the underworld. that's what the gods are preventing from happening, they're not just keeping the corpse pretty for priam to pick up later.

Pediatrician damian who is still a hero at heart and who has kicked ass when his hospital was briefly taken hostage by rogues. Who immediately jumped into a fight because the crying of tiny terrified children echoed in his ears and he was filled with enough righteous anger his 10 year old self would stagger.

Pediatrician damian who does everything in his power to make sure every kid who needs it gets Healthcare.

Pediatrician damian who refers to his patients as his kids.

nanami tells you he loves you for the first time when he knows you can't hear him. you've dozed off in the middle of your movie night...again, popcorn fallen to the floor and kernels scattered. which isn't much of a surprise to him. in fact, you fall asleep during almost every movie night. work has been hard on you lately and you just can't seem to stay awake long enough to finish a movie.

it doesn't annoy nanami either. he finds it quite endearing, really and often finds himself observing the pretty way your lashes fan across your face. how your lips do this cute little pouty thing that makes him want to kiss you. how sometimes you snore (but he'd never tell you he knows that). he can't get enough of you. it only confirms what he'd known only two weeks into dating.

he loves you

there are not many things in this world nanami fears, but he does fear scaring you off by falling too hard, and falling too fast. he does fear you not returning his feelings. and he even fears how intense this love he has for you is. but, he couldn't have avoided it if he tried. before he knew it, he was already smitten with you.

and it's still far too early for him to build up the courage to say these three little words to you when you're wide awake and able to respond (the most terrifying part to him), but he knows what he feels. that's one thing nanami is absolutely certain of.

so when you nuzzle further into his chest tonight, the noise of the television fades into the background for nanami, and he finds himself leaning down to press his lips to the crown of your head where he whispers, so so softly, "I love you."

a part of him wishes you'd hear it, surprise him by opening your eyes and smiling up at him. maybe tell him you love him, too. but your soft and even breaths tell him you're deep into dreamland.

'that's alright,' he thinks. because he's certain of his love for you, and he's sure that one day he'll be brave enough to tell you just how certain he is.
