Big Mama must have lost some serious standing in the yokai underworld because it’s gotten apparent that she keeps being beaten by a small group of teenagers and the occasional rat man, and when it’s not them then she’s taking L’s from her own schemes working against her.

And in the ensuing power vacuum, the Hamatos accidentally become the most feared crime family known to all the big bads of the Hidden City.

After all, they’ve publicly outplayed Big Mama multiple times, a couple of them have taken out the heads of two of the most well known criminal organizations, one took out Heinous Green, two are responsible for the destruction of Witch Town, they have ties to both the infamous Baron Draxum and Captain Piel, they won the Doom Dome death race, they’re Battle Nexus Champions, they’ve displayed insane feats of power and defeated impossibly strong enemies, most of them have been to jail, and they regularly mingle with humans.

You can just imagine the notoriety they’d accumulate from word of mouth alone.

Putting my rambles here because oh boy this drawing has been a journey to work on lol

I started this back in February, but it’s been very on and off working on it due to life stuff lol. But I finally finished, so even though I’m not totally happy with it, I am glad I was able to finish it despite everything! Might redraw/expand the idea sometime, because I do like how silly it is, but for now here is this :]

Also extra info on what’s going on in the drawing itself! Donnie keeps score, here April and Raph are going over the current scores with him. Meanwhile, Mikey and Leo are having a match, and despite Leo’s attempts, Mikey is focused on winning lol (also the other Xs and Os are there, they’re just blocked by Mikey and I got too lazy to draw them).

i could talk for hoooours about raph and leo's dynamic specifically because they are SO interesting and im sure it shines through in the way that i write them at least a little, because i do like getting the chance to pair them together and make them riff off each other. what can i say, they're fun when they're bickering about nothing (or, they're actually bickering about something but leo gets offended and derails it and raph takes the bait) and they're fun when they get along and comfortably colead, or when they just have one whole braincell when they put their heads together

i also really enjoy the potential of a post-movie dynamic where when leo is more comfortably situated into a leadership role being a really important voice of reassurance for raph, more than he already is at least. leo could come in and help calm raph down and tell him it's not so bad/it's going to be okay, but i think raph KNOWING there's someone else who knows how to care of everything is going to seriously help his blood pressure lmfao. especially because leo responds to stress more competently and is a lot better at making structured plans on the fly.

honestly i would love to see more hurt/comfort or whump with these two where raph is the one going Through It especially because leo is actually pretty protective of him in canon, he always gets the MOST upset/offended when people fuck with raph in particular. leo knows very very well that raph is easily upset and he gets angry when people push him around and take advantage of that. unless he gets to do it but if he did raph totally had it coming (/lie)

and when i talk about how second oldest leo feels key to their dynamic i mostly mean when it comes to their conflict like ... raph holds leo to a higher standard than he does anyone else, at first at least. he's always telling him to take responsibility, trying to catch him out in a lie, and arguing with him about the way forward,, and like, leo having a more contrarian personality and being easily suspicious of people (especially because he's so perceptive) is a big reason for this, but i think raph and leo kind of being in their own camp as the oldest two would explain this trait and explain why raph puts so much focus on leo shaping up specifically. i also notice that raph is a lot more comfortable making fun of leo which plays into it LOL

^^^ and post-movie a lot of these problems are resolved-- raph learned pretty early on (in bug busters, probably) that taking things seriously and not listening to leo just for the sake of it was only going to lead them into danger, and in the movie leo learned that being uncooperative and petulant as a defense mechanism was only going to hurt his family and himself by extension-- but i also think there's a lot of angst potential in this dynamic on both sides tbh. it's pretty apparent they fought/fight so much because they fundamentally just misunderstand each other. leo is trying to 4D chess his way out of this unwanted responsibility but it doesnt work at all on raph who is so direct-- raph just keeps trying to lecture leo and make him understand because he's not picking up any of leo's cues at all. really all of their problems would be solved by direct communication but leo would rather die than do that (<- kind of literally? he comes close) and raph doesn't really strike me as someone who's very good at articulating himself and laying all his cards out on the table, he has a lot of emotions that are difficult to put into words. means they can scuffle lots and that's fun

They don't really have favorites but these are some duos that spend more time with each other in general

- Uno and Moja

- Yi and Odyn

- Yi and Moja

Some of their favorite things:

- Odyn loves helping Mikey cook! Also it's a win because he gets to spend more time with his dad! His favorite things are getting kitchen supplies that are cute looking (he loves nessie the soup ladle).

- Yi's favorite thing is her fanny pack! she got one from Mikey so she could carry her tools around (She gets an actual tool belt growing up but when younger her funky hot pink fanny pack was the best thing ever)

- Moja's favorite thing in the world it's the vinyl player Mikey got her in one of their birthdays. It's a deep cherry red and it always carries a little post it note that says "YI DO NOT TOUCH IT ".

- Uno's favorite thing is his vintage™ nintendo switch lmao.

Sure! It was originally intended to just be silly and nonsensical, so I picked some characters that the boys don't end up with much. Raph and Leo are the most developed so far.

Raph: ends up with Huginn and Muninn's extended family, and is raised as a gargoyle for the first half of his life. At some point the gargoyle warren decides that he would be better off getting more involved in yokai culture (lots of reasons involved), so they asked Huginn and Muninn to take care of him. They brought him to Draxum's lab to take care of him (may or may not have informed Draxum of this arrangement) and Draxum was like "wha--is that one of my turtles?!" and the goyles are like "uh idk boss" and he's like "that is one of my turtles I am involving myself in raising the kid."

So long story short Raph ends up with three primary caretakers plus a massive extended family that he visits on the weekends. Also he ends up with the name Red, because gargoyles have a collectively strange sense of humor and also they don't get real names until adulthood anyway.

Leo: ends up with Capitan Piel. Piel and his crew didn't realize Leo wasn't just an animal at first (to be fair they don't see that many regular turtles) so for the first year or two they keep him as a pet. Once he starts talking, they kinda collectively go "oh crap this is a child" and the crew has to decide whether they want to keep a kid or not, given their dangerous and less than legal lifestyle. They keep him and raise him as a pirate lol. (They might also name him Leon, I haven't decided yet.)

However, Leo's presence does cause Piel and Hueso to reconcile somewhat, mainly because Piel wants to make sure that his kid has a safe place to go if something happens to the rest of the crew. Leo has ended up at his uncles' several times, the longest being a period of about five months. That was also the first time he stayed at Hueso's.

Donnie: Ends up with the Librarian. Being raised in a library has some interesting effects: he's virtually a walking encyclopedia and never speaks above a whisper. He prefers to communicate using one of the many yokai sign languages he's learned, and always has a hush bat or two following him to keep an eye on him. His ability to build his tech has been somewhat limited by needing to be quiet, but he's found workarounds.

Mikey: Stays with Splinter. Rather than becoming more neglectful, Splinter is immensely overprotective of his remaining child. They still live in the sewers, just not in the same place as in the show--it's too big for the two of them. Mikey knows about the Upper City (He and April explore together because Splinter won't let him go alone) but he doesn't know about the other one. Also, he wears dresses in this au. idk why he just does.

With how often his portals screwed up in the beginning, there’s absolutely no way Leo didn’t end up in multiple scenarios where he was trapped in random places chasing after his odachi as it gets separated from him, causing him to have to chase after it as it somehow evades his grasp in increasingly comedic yet unlucky ways.
