Oooo!!! I never thought of it like that!!! Honestly I could see it. His jawline could cut diamonds it's so defined. That's probably what makes Batman so intimidating, his shoulders are broad and square, his jawline being the only part of him you can see and it's that defined? Terrifying.
Clark I always picture to be such a Dad™ and I can never unsee it. I like seeing Clark as muscular as FUCK. Like he's 80% pure muscle mass it's insane. But he squishes yk? His muscles are just Built Different. They look bigger but they aren't defined, they soften to protect his body.
Jason I always like to picture with a tum. He's such a soft guy with a heart of gold, I can't imagine him having a defined body type because it just doesn't suit him. Is he intimidating?? Hell yea, but not because of how he looks, it's his reputation. I love his big hugs!!! I feel like he takes after Clark in the Big Squishy Muscle thing.
Dick is always gonna be more lean and defined for me. Hes an acrobat, if you see male acrobats they're always super toned and their muscles are hella defined like all the time, but that's because they have a naturally leaner build so when they do gain muscle, it's noticeable. They have to be aerodynamic so their waist and hips are small but their thighs and arms are big enough to carry their weight and catch themselves.
Tim will always have a lean build. He's scrawny and thin, especially growing up and during the early days. Any muscle he has was purely from him working his ass off to grow it. Maintaining that muscle is always gonna be harder for him than any of the other boys. That's why he's such a health nut in canon, he can't afford to slack off health wise. I can imagine he used to compare himself A LOT to his older brothers because he was so much smaller than them which isn't great in the field, you WANT to be bigger (not just muscle but fat too, and both are hard for Tim). Eventually tho, he learned his own fighting style that was suited for his build. (Less impact, more stealth and defense, relying on his intellect to make the fight end swiftly because he knows he won't last in prolonged close combat.)
I consistently see Bruce and Clark being portrayed as fucking ripped, like eight packs, massive muscles all the time, etc etc. And while they both would have a large percentage of muscle mass because of what they do, muscles don't always look "defined" when someone's relaxed or after a long day.
Most often, muscles can be jiggly and soft, even squishy if they aren't flexed. Doesn't mean they aren't strong or not there, they just aren't being used at the moment.
So yes, their thighs are massive, but when lounging around?? Squishy. Squatting?? Hard as a fucking ROCK.
Long story short, I wanna see more of Clark and Bruce being portrayed with a healthy level of body fat.

#damian i see the same as tim tbh#but if damian wanted to#he has bruces genetics so he could follow suit#but i dont think itd benefit damian and he knows it#thats not his style of fighting#he takes after talia in that regard#plus talias genetics may be different than bruces idk#i just cant imagine damian being buff and defined like bruce

"you were missed, you know.” the voice is light, balancing on the edge of airy like a coin on its rim, in a way only careful practice yielded. so jason whirls around, faster than he normally would in a neatly-pressed suit and loose dress shoes.
there’s a woman, close cropped red hair swinging into her face and pulling at the corners of her mouth until her expression is as severe as her form. there’s a scar on her jaw and, oh, the memory tumbles into his head as if pushed. kate kane, proof that vigilantism is genetic, once tugged jason into into her side and pulled him away from a particularly leering investor at function. the bite of her nails on his skin was a thousand times sweeter than the man’s smile.
she smirks. “hi.”
“haven’t seen you in a while,” jason responds, attempting casual and instead tripping, falling into his crime lord persona, since he doesn’t know how else to interact with people when he’s jason peter todd-wayne.
“not since you died,” kate remarks and damn, right for the gullet. “you’ve grown up.”
jason shrugs, suddenly feeling thirteen years old again, suddenly feeling all of four feet, eight inches in the face of her candidness. “time’s funny like that.”
she eyes him carefully, trying to fish for the truth in what she believes is a lie wrapped in a careful quip. jason doesn’t blame her: he’s cultivated quite a reputation for himself. but he stripped the sarcasm from his words before he spoke them, and their rawness is shrouded in the bubbling champagne and crystal chandelier around them, but it’s no less present for anyone who knows how to peel the veil back.
“you were missed,” she repeats, satisfied with his answer. “not sure anyone’s told you that since you’ve come back. your family’s a stubborn bunch. i just wanted to make sure.”
“make sure i knew i was missed?” jason clarifies, feeling a little foolish, because dick wouldn’t beg to save his life but there were a few times that his words came close to pleas, and tim had made it clear how much he’d upheld the pedestal he’d put jason on, and alfred had actually told him that to his face.
but this was the first time he found himself truly believing those familiar words. he hadn’t known kate, not at all. and yet, she nodded, clapped him on the shoulder once, twice, then left, completely unaware of the pit of resentment she’d carved out of jason’s stomach and thrown on the ground until jason felt like he’d slip on it if he moved, if he breathed.
she didn’t look back, but jason’s eyes didn’t stop following her until she was out of sight.
*
"you were missed, you know.” jason doesn’t startle, his training is etched into every scar decorating his skin, and there are times that he grips and holds onto those scars like a lifeline. he’s far too practiced to flinch, but he’d be lying to himself if his heart didn’t skip a beat.
he forgave himself in the next second, though. cassandra cain could make men much more experienced than him recoil. she appeared soundlessly, and folded down beside him with a grace that jason hadn’t seen anywhere outside his family. the amount of space she left between them, the relaxed posture that left visible tension cording through her arms like pulling steel taffy, the tilt to her body that made jason automatically want to open his mouth and let his tumultuous thoughts come out as an oil spill: right now, cass had dick grayson’s brushtrokes all over her.
“dick put you up to this?”
cass shook her head, then bit her lip in a considering movement. jason wondered if he’d practiced, because bruce had long since broken that dangerous habit out of his children.
“i am still working on comfort. assurance,” she said, rifling through the words like flash cards, picking the most accurate ones. “i thought i’d practice.”
“oh? and why exactly do you think i need comfort.”
“i overheard your argument,” she admitted, “with bruce.”
“i didn’t think anyone was there.”
“i didn’t mean to,” she said. “sorry. but i heard what you said.”
jason scoffed. “prove me wrong. one step forward, two steps back with that dense motherfucker.”
“sign of protection,” cass said. “not distrust.”
out of everyone to say that to him, cass was probably the least likely. jason had thought she, of all people, would be on his side after he found the microchip in his helmet. she, of all people, would value independence after being owned for so long.
“by the time he found you, you were dead. and he missed you more than anything. he will never let that happen again.”
“oh yeah? privacy mean nothing to him? i know he’s crazy about this stuff but come on. there’s a limit.”
“you are not relying on him because of this.” cass stood up, stretching her back, though jason was sure she really didn’t have to. “he is relying on you. let him.”
*
“you were missed, you know.”
“what, speaking from personal experience? i ain’t you, west.” jason could feel the gentle thrum of electricity behind him, making his hair stand on edge. two steps backward, and he’d be pulled into that void, that black hole of energy, that swirling vortex of pure power condensed into something human-shaped.
except he wouldn’t. it was just wally. just dick’s best friend joining him outside on the balcony. jason didn’t know how dick and tim could stand to be around speedsters willingly, for fun.
“i mean, sort of,” wally shrugged. “but me and you had very different experiences.”
“yeah, west, i’m not sure who else has been stuck in the fucking speedforce.”
wally snorted, an if only you knew hidden in plain sight. jason decided he really didn’t want to know. “i mean there’s that,” the speedster concedes, “but also, everyone forgot i existed. that didn’t happen with you.”
“you sure about that?”
“hey,” wally eyed him, his eyes suddenly sharp. “don’t start that shit. i was erased from the memories of everyone i loved. you did nothing but stay in the memories of your family.”
“now i know we’re talking about two different things.”
“jason,” wally sighed, and the sheer exasperation pouring off him made jason want curl his fingers, bring them up for a swing, taste the bite of pain that would prick at his knuckles, nevermind the fact that wally would dodge anyway. “don’t do that.”
he turned to face the speedster, arms crossed deliberately over his chest. “where the hell do you get off acting like dick?”
“you’re more like dick than you realize,” wally said, “and i spent half my childhood dealing with his moods. actually, i still do.”
“do you have a point?” jason snapped, starting to get irritated. he wasn’t sure why. he’d spent his entire life one one end of a scale, dick grayson on the other. he’d always tipped his end down. this was the first time someone was telling him the scale was even.
“just because your family didn’t mourn the way you wanted them to,” wally said, “doesn’t mean they didn’t mourn you.”
“fuck you.”
“they loved you. and they missed you,” wally continues, steamrolling right over jason in a way most speedsters were prone to do. “there’s no minimum requirement for loss. no ‘if you didn’t do this, then you didn’t grieve me.’ that’s not even a situation, ever.”
“so that makes everything bruce did okay?” jason sputtered
“not at all. god knows i disagree with bruce on more things than i tolerate. but this is one thing you can’t fault him on.”
it wasn’t that easy, though. jason wanted to scream it at wally’s face, it wasn’t that easy. it wasn’t about whether bruce loved him enough,,,,except maybe it was. jason wanted bruce to have loved him enough to make a difference in gotham. jason wanted bruce to have missed him enough to change things, because change meant that bruce had been so hurt by his death that he refused to let it happen to anyone else again.
bruce had made a vow after his parents died. the fifteen year old inside jason was begging bruce why he hadn’t been afforded the same devotion. jason was his son.
“just something to think about,” wally said, then stepped backward, making to go inside where dick was calling him. “you were afforded the luxury of coming back with a place left empty in your family for you. you didn’t have to make it, like i did.”
“being dead, then coming back wrong isn’t a fucking luxury,” jason snarled.
with a shrug, wally turned, a little faster than the average human, lightning sparking at his heels as he left jason alone on the balcony. “depends on your definition of wrong.”
jason get therapy. please. also happy deathday
honestly i couldn’t decide whose side of the argument i was on, jason’s or wally’s.

Little Bird
Bucky Barnes x OFC
Enemies to ???
Notes: This idea just came to me while I was working on my college au and I'm pretty excited about it. Canon has been taken out back and shot, I do what I want.
Warnings: Swearing, angst, Bucky being a dick.
Chapter 1
She woke up on the floor of her cell, cold and cramped, trying to see in the dark to figure out what woke her. Then there was an explosion, the ground shook and bits of rock and dust rained down on her. She struggled to pull herself into a sitting position against the back wall of the cell, trying to blend into the wall as she waited to see what was happening. A hall door was pulled off its hinges and let in some light which made her flinch. She saw a large man with dark hair and a metal arm come up to the cell door. He looked at her, trying to figure out if he knew her from his time with Hydra but she wasn't familiar. With glowing violet eyes he knew he would remember her if they had crossed paths. Her skin was bluish but he figured it was the cold. He grabbed the cell door with his metal hand and tried to pull it open. It squealed but held and he shook his head in confusion. She just continued to stare at him, not sure of his intentions but sure that he was familiar although she didn't recognize his scent.
He tapped his comms and said "I found a prisoner, doesn't look human. I can't open the cell door, she must be enhanced." He paused "Ok, I'll wait here"
He just stood and stared, not sure how to interact with her.
A man in a red and gold metal suit came in and looked around "You say you couldn't open the door, Barnes? I think I can help with that."
He faced her "Hey there, I'm Tony we're with the Avengers and we're going to get you out of here. Just stay back and close your eyes while I work on this door. Do you have a name?" She tried to speak and just croaked and coughed, her mouth and throat to dry to make any sounds.
Tony looked at her sadly "It's ok, we will figure it all out when we get you back to the compound. Just give me a few minutes to get thru this door."
He focused his laser to burn thru the bars until the door fell to the side. "Can you walk?"
She tried to stand but fell back down. Tony sighed "No problem, Barnes can help you"
Bucky looked uncomfortable but picked her up and headed out of the building to the quinjet, he was surprised because she was much heavier than she looked.
When he set her down, Bruce came over to look at the woman. He couldn't see any injuries but she was obviously severely dehydrated and looked emaciated so probably starving as well. Bruce gave her some water and after She finished the bottle asked her name.
"Rika" she barely whispered.
Nat brought a blanket assuming Rika was cold by the bluish tint to her skin but when she draped the blanket over her shoulders Nat noticed that her skin was warm.
Rika sat very still drinking more water and watching everyone around her on the trip to the compound.
When they landed Bruce helped Rika walk to a holding cell and they were met by Helen Cho so she could do a full exam and they could try to find out who this woman is.
He apologized "I'm really sorry but until we know more about you I have to follow protocol." Rika nodded
When Helen finished examining the woman she was shocked to find that she was very healthy besides the hunger and dehydration. She took some blood to have the lab run more tests. She also did some xrays to make sure there were no fractures.
Helen turned to Bruce "She's quite healthy as far as I can tell. A few days of rest, plenty of liquids and working her up to a normal diet should do the trick" Helen inserted an IV to increase her fluids.
Bruce nodded "When you wake up we can figure everything out. I'd also like to take a swab from your mouth and get some information about your genetics." Rika looked at him and nodded, already drifting off to sleep.
Bruce nodded "I'll set up a team debriefing when you wake and we'll get you squared away. Get some rest and press the call button by the bed if you need anything" Rika gave him a small smile "Thank you".
While she slept Nat ran her pic and fingerprints to see what she could find. "Rika Holmes, born 9/22/1995, in Los Angeles. Parents Logan and Rachel Holmes died 5 years ago in a car accident. Went to UCLA majored in IT and business management. Never married, no kids, lives in Santa Monica. No criminal record. She sounds pretty boring for a woman with lavender eyes that almost glow and bluish skin. But all the pictures I've found have her with California tan skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. The hair and eyes I can see but how do you make bluish skin look sun kissed tan? Even in the water? There's more to this girl than I can find." She gasped "Tony, look at this. These are pics of a Rika Singh in India and she looks like a native. Plus these are from the 80's. Look at her face, features and bone structure are the same just different colors. There's something funny about this girl"
Rika fell into the best sleep she had in years and woke up refreshed and very hungry. When Tony came in with a plate of eggs and toast she sat up and smiled at him. "Rika? Right? You look a hundred times better than when we found you. You must have needed the sleep, its been 3 days. Should I be scared?" He teased.
Rika shook her head solemnly "Only if you try to hurt me"
"No, I'm hoping we can help you. And you don't turn out to be some Hydra plot to infiltrate the compound."
"Not that I know of."
"Eat up, meeting in 30 and you are the woman of the hour". After she ate Tony gave her some Avengers sweats, a t-shirt and some slip on shoes that she put on after a shower.
When she left the bathroom dressed Tony was waiting for her and offered his arm. "Follow me my dear" she took his arm and followed him to the meeting room. There were already a number of people in there joking and laughing so she looked nervously at Tony and he smiled back "They're loud but they're family so don't be too nervous."
When she walked into the room everyone stopped talking and looked at her. She looked around and gave a small smile before she sat in the only empty seat.
Tony introduced her to the team "Kids, this is Rika the young lady we found at the base a few days ago. Rika, that's Steve, Barnes, Nat, Wanda, Vision, Sam and you know Bruce. The rest of the team isn't on site today but you'll meet them if you stay awhile.'
Bruce smiles at her, "You look much better today, Rika. What can you tell us about yourself? I found some interesting things in your bloodwork"
Nat spoke up. "I ran your name and info and found some interesting pictures that look like you except for the coloring and some are before the birthdate the govt has for you so, spill."
Rika looks around and starts "My name is Sarika Darkholme but I usually go by Rika Holmes because people have a problem with me when they find out who my parents are. My mother is Raven Darkholme, better known as Mystique and my father is Logan aka The Wolverine. Mom is a shapeshifter who fell in love, maybe lust, with Logan and seduced him while looking like some mob bosses daughter he was bodyguard for. He knew who my mom was and hated her, he almost killed her when he woke up and saw it was her. Mom went to India to stay under the radar and I was born there. Sarika is Sanskrit for bird. She started teaching me how to fight When I was 5. When I was 11 mom reunited with Erik Lensher and left me with a family in India, the Singhs, but gave them the name and address of her childhood friend Charles Xavier in case I needed help. When the family who was caring for me died in an 'accident' when I was 17 I knew it was my fault and I ran. I eventually found my way to the states and showed up on his door, maybe 20 years later I don't remember exactly. I moved all over, changed my look to blend in. Almost settled down in a few places but something always went wrong and I had to leave quickly.
Charles took me in and continued my hand to hand fight training. I lived there for a few years. Then Logan returned and when he found out who I was he demanded Charles get rid of me and threatened to kill me in my sleep. Hank McCoy was in love with my mom and swore to help me. He and Logan came to blows and I got between, where my dear father gave me these scars" she lifts her shirt to show them 3 scars just below her ribs. Like claws. She also showed them where they came out in her back. "I woke up awhile later, healed and in Hank's room. He said he would push Charles to let me stay. I told him I would leave because I didn't want to break their team up. Apparently Hydra had been tracking me when they found me 20 miles away from Charles place and captured me. Hydra heard about what Stryker did to my dad and figured I would be a good candidate. I almost died but now my skeleton is lined with adamantium like his. I'm not sure how long I was there"
Bruce stops her "Your parents are two of the most dangerous mutants on the planet. I'm guessing that you have his healing abilities since you survived?"
Rika nodded. "I also have his heightened senses but no claws, darnit"
Tony spoke up "I'm guessing you get your coloring from your mom? Anything extra?"
"Well, I'm stronger and more agile than the average person. I'm not a shapeshifter but I can change the color of my skin, hair, nails and eyes. Not as good as Mom but helpful at times. I can fight, learned multiple styles over the years. I'm a good bit older than I look. Hank told me Both of my parents age differently than anyone else he's seen. Logan was born a long time ago, makes your supersoldiers look like babies"
Rika teared up "I thought the X-Men would be my family but my own father hates me for something I had no control over. I don't want to cause any trouble or join my mom and Erik with their brotherhood or Hellfire Club. I'm healed and feeling much better. Thank you for your help but its probably best if I leave."
Tony cuts her off "You are welcome to stay. Since there's no record of you being a mutant or your enhancements anywhere that we could find it's unlikely you've been causing trouble so as far as I'm concerned you're an innocent victim who needs our help."
A number of the group agreed but Bucky almost shouted "No! We don't know anything about her, she could be a Hydra plant or who knows what. Mutants can't be trusted."
Rika snaps "But 100 yr old, brainwashed, assassin, super soldiers are just fine?" She takes a breath to calm down "I don't want to cause a rift in another family like I did at Charles school. I can get by on my own."
Bucky stood up "See, she doesn't need us and we certainly don't fucking need her" and stomped out of the room. Steve tried to apologize for his friend and ran after him leaving the room silent.

Do you think you could write an Au where Bruce Wayne is Marinette's bio!dad, but they don't learn that until she interns under Tony Stark, please?
@jumpingjoy82
Okay so disclaimer I mainly know marvel through fanfics and a couple of the MCU movies. Having said that this was a fun write hope you like it.
Oh and Marinette knows Tom isn’t her bio dad. Tony is Sabine’s cousin.
~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette was a lot of things. She was a dancer, a gymnast, a bio chem major, an engineer, an amateur detective, a superhero, and completely over her class at idiots who followed a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Marinette was actually done with high school. In fact she was two years into her first Masters degree along with skipping two years. Making her two years younger than the sheep in her class and at least four years younger than those in her university class.
Mari was sitting in the back of the class during her last period when she received an email and several texts, thank kwamii her phone and tablet were on silent.
She decided to open her email first.
You have been selected as one of the lucky seven applicants to study and intern at Stark Industries for two weeks this summer. Below is the date, location, and mentor you will report to. We hope to meet you then. -Sincerely Co-CEO Virginia Potts
She would have answered her text had the projector not began to glitch and calling her name. "Mari bug answer your phone!"
'Ugh' she sighed running her hands down her face. "I would have Uncle T if you hadn't started yelling from the projector!"
"But Peps just told me and..."
"Wait," her head snapped up. "How many screens are you projecting on." She started to look around, her uncle, who never not used the camera unless... Then she saw the Iron Man suit.
"I dunno maybe the whole school, the city, the country I don't know."
"Ya I'm not dealing with this at least not here." She walked down the stairs her bag packed hung from her shoulders. "Oh and Uncle T, fe...male 4 o'clock." He began to sputter but she didn’t stay in the classroom and walked out without looking back.
Thank kwamii that her uncle was only projected in her class. It did have the unfortunate side effect of her class sending confused and curious looks at her. Even Lila seemed to stop her tirade for a while. But all good things must come to an end.
"Alright do I have all the permission slips for the summer graduation trip." Miss Bustier started counting the slips. “Marinette your permission slip is missing."
"I'm aware."
"If you want to go you need it in by the end of the day."
"Seriously Mari, if you want us to beg you to come save it. We don't want a bully on this trip wit us." Alya huffed before Marinette could speak.
"One only my friends call me Mari, you are not one of them so it's Marinette to you Cesaire. Two you save it I don't want to hear any of you beg me for anything. Finally three, I already had plans for this summer. So this trip I’ll be a no show so have fun."
“Y...Yes but this is a class trip,” Miss Bustier stammered.
“I understand that but it would still be a class trip even if I don’t go.” Was Marinette’s retort.
Miss Bustier would have continued had her Uncle not burst into the room. Her head was now banging against the desk. To his credit he was not in a suit, Iron Man suit included. He was in more ‘Civilian wear' with a baseball cap and shades.
"Ready to go Bug! I already signed you off."
"How mad is Auntie Pepper going to be when she finds out you came to Paris." She was now next to him at the door still in the classroom.
"Pete's here!" He shouted.
"Fine our secret." She smiled leaving the class behind without a wave or goodbye.
---
Interning with her Uncle Tony was great. Especially because she could get his input on her projects and learn from him directly.
It also helped that she stayed in Avenger's Tower and that ment leaving for akuma's was easy and was expected. Every summer she would spend with her uncle for the past five years. Meaning that they knew when she became Ladybug since it's kind of hard to keep a secret identity from FRIDAY, who is constantly monitoring the tower.
On the plus side that meant she had adult guidance and mentors.
"Mari bag mind going to pick up the Bats and Hood?”
"Suit?"
"Suit."
she left and was swinging between the sky scrapers, until she landed at the meet up point. She didn't have to wait long.
"Who are you?" Red helmet, so Red Hood, asked.
"I'm Ladybug. My guess is he just sent that bug was going to meet you guys."
"That's night how did you know?"
"There's three bugs at the tower right now Black Widow, Spider Man, and me so it's understand able, come on."
They made their way to the tower and she dropped her transformation. "If you guys want to change FRIDAY will guide you." she faced them, smiled, and walked off.
---
Something had been bothering him since he first saw the girl, Ladybug. Two days had passed and that feeling was not going away.
"Don't even think about it Bruce." Tony glared at him. "You are not adopting her she already has loving parents."
"I wasn't... why would you think that."
"We told you you have a problem B!" Jason yelled from across the room. "So what is your name anyway everyone just calls you either Maribug, Buginette, or just bug."
"Those all sound more like nicknames," Bruce now added having made his way across the room with Tony.
"That's because they are," she gave them a bored and a 'duh' look. "My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng."
A memory flashed in his mind from 16 years ago.
"You wouldn't happen to know a Sabine Cheng?" Bruce asked.
Now both Marinette and Tony turned on him and the glare Marinette was giving him. Well he would recognize it anywhere, he trademarked it after all.
"Why would you ask that?" Tony was the first to answer, but not soon after Marinette spoke.
"Yes. She's my mother." Then she looked at him as if she were analyzing him. "Oh fuck" she groaned.
"Language!"
"Oh not now or kwamii help me I will beat you to a pulp later during sparing Uncle Steve."
"I'll bring the popcorn." Natasha piped.
“You’re not helping.” Steve argued.
“We both know she can take you. She added as they left the room.
"Mari Sweetie, what's up."
"Eyes, hair, build, complexion"
"Glare," he added.
"Not helping but yes. Ya know apparently being a hero is genetic," She had began to laugh.
"No don't tell me, that my sweet smart niece is related to..." Tony Just motioned at him not finding the right words.
"Ya well it looks that way uncle Tony."
"B. Demon spawn is not going to be happy." Jason scolded once he seemed to grasp the concept. "Hey at least you have a kid who already knows your a vigilante and a hero to boot.” Jason grinned.
Of all the ways Mari had thought she would meet her biological father, this was not one of them. Who would have thought interning with her uncle would lead to meeting her father. This is by far better than a class trip with those sheep she calls classmates.
Bio Dad Bruce Wayne Month 2020
Day 1: Meeting for the first time
Not my best work, but decent. I hope you enjoy!
—*—*—*—*—*
Mari was intelligent. That much could not be disputed— and despite her dislike for the sciences in general, she was fully capable of comprehending them when she wanted to. She just usually didn’t care enough to try. But genetics? That was kinda cool. So, when she was ten years old and they began their short unit on it, she was obsessed. And by obsessed, she dove in head first. Like, the fact that her eye color didn’t match either of her parents or grandparents. How could she have blue eyes when none of them did? She delved in deeper and deeper until she uncovered a truth her parents hadn’t wanted her to figure out quite so soon.
She was adopted.
Mari never told her parents about her discovery, the epiphany only managing to sate her curiosity. Who needed blood relation when her parents loved her like real ones anyway? But as the years passed and certain life changes came up, she couldn’t help but feel intrigued by the mystery of where her DNA came from. The heroism thing had to have some root in genetics, right? Okay, so maybe she was just looking for someone to be mad at besides Master Fu. But still, could she be blamed?
So, when Marinette was thirteen years old, she traced her DNA back to her biological parents. And for a while, that was it. She had once again sated her curiosity. She didn’t need anything else. Her mother was dead, and she doubted her biological father knew a thing about her. So Marinette forgot about her discovery, or at least let it sink into the recesses of her brain. And there it stayed, until she was eighteen.
—* — * — * — * — *
It had to be one of the most accidentally dramatic days possible. Top floor of Wayne Enterprises, in one of Bruce’s massive conference rooms with every member of his large family in attendance. Even Kori and Mar’i were there, and Jason’s boyfriend Roy. Everyone was getting fairly restless, considering that Bruce had only informed a few of them (Read: just Dick, who was vibrating in his seat and not soothing anyone’s nerves) about what they were even all called in for. In their civilian identities, no less. It was very odd. Damian, not least of all, was sitting beside Bruce with his jaw clenched but eyes scanning the room in curiosity. He had come a long way from the surly ten year old, and he hadn’t even killed anyone in four years. He had well and truly become a Bat, and with that progress came the lessening of his old temper and brattiness.
Make note: lessening. Not erasure.
It wasn’t long, maybe ten or fifteen minutes of Bruce checking his phone and grinning secretively without answering anyone’s questions, before a businesslike tap-tap-tap sounded on the door to the conference room. Immediately, everything went silent. Kori, Tim, and Jason stopped trying to get Dick to say anything intelligible and went instead to just keeping the man in his seat at all. Bruce let out a rare, soft chuckle before raising his coffee mug to his lips. He called out:
“Come on in, miss MDC. We’re ready for our meeting,” before taking a long sip.
And as soon as the door opened all the way, admitting a short woman of asian descent with navy black hair brushing the bottom of her shoulder blades and piercing (familiar. Too familiar) deep blue eyes, he promptly choked. Trying his damndest not to get coffee everywhere, Bruce devolved into a coughing fit even as his eyes continued to flitter up to the figure just admitted into the room. The woman pretended not to notice his suffering, closing the door behind her and walking forward towards the side of the rectangular-set-up ring of tables that was closest to her and also unoccupied. She plopped a heavy bag down onto the table, reaching in and pulling out a large red and white polka-dotted journal from within, along with a black pen. But despite her businesslike movements and her silence, nobody missed the way that her far too familiar stunningly blue eyes twinkled in suppressed mirth. She didn’t seem surprised at all.
That was the last time Bruce was ever gonna let Tim do someone’s background check on his own. He should have at least looked at the file Tim had made, but of course not. Tim was capable, he trusted the boy with half of their entire family’s company. One background check on one highly reputable designer? Of course he could trust Tim.
Except apparently not. This is what Bruce got for keeping secrets.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng,” Bruce spoke once he got a handle of himself, pushing back his chair almost hurriedly and standing. Damian followed suit, laser focused on his father along with everyone else who knew just how out of character the older man was being just then. It was hard to fluster Bruce at all those days, let alone make him choke and hurry to stand. “I— Welcome to WE. I’m—“ Bruce was cut off by a soft chuckle.
“Bruce Wayne, my biological father and employer for the next few weeks. I know,” Marinette interrupted, sending a sly smile his way. “I had a feeling somebody didn’t actually tell you my name. I was planning on coming to Gotham later this year after I graduated Lycee and demanding to get to know you, but it looks like you did the hard work for me without even knowing. But,” her smile widened in good humor as she walked up closer to Bruce, holding her hand out for a shake. “I do have to say, now that I’ve seen you in person I feel a bit cheated. With how tall you are, you’d think I would have inherited at least a couple more inches.”
“Excuse me? Who do you think you are, claiming to be a Wayne?” Damian asked, tone sharp and his emerald eyes glaring straight towards her. Bruce just took Marinette’s hand, shaking it gently from surprise, but his foot gently kicked his son in the ankle.
“Damian,” Bruce said simply, the single name laced with warning as it came out of his mouth. He turned his attention back to the girl in front of him. “It is nice to finally meet you in person, Marinette. I admit, I did not know of our relation until a few years ago, and I wasn’t in the right mindset back then to welcome another child. Besides, I had it on good authority that your adoptive parents are more than wonderful to you.”
Marinette shrugged. “I don’t mind. I didn’t look into who my biological father was until I was thirteen, anyway. I don’t think things would have ended well if you had just shown up in Paris one day asking to be involved in my life. Enough of that though,” Marinette turned to the sixteen year old by Bruce’s side now stiffened and wide-mouthed. His entire expression, subdued as it was, still managed to clearly telegraph betrayal. And then those eyes locked on Marinettes, and the emerald simmered into something much more vile and acidic. Marinette was not perturbed, merely giving the younger boy a smile and holding out her hand for a shake.
“You must be my half-brother, Damian. I expected someone carved out of stone, with how the tabloids paint you as unfeeling and cold,” she joked. Damian glared harder. She raised an eyebrow. “You seem pretty heated and angry, like a hissing cat, to me. And by the way, I never claimed to be a Wayne. My last name is Dupain-Cheng, and I don’t plan on changing it anytime soon. Having the same blood relation as you does not mean I plan to throw away the name given to me by the ones who actually raised me. But, it does mean that I will get to know you one way or another. I’m not easy to get rid of, and I’ve always wanted a sibling or two.”
That was when the room couldn’t hold it any more; everyone bar the three in the center of the room burst out laughing. It wasn’t too raucous, confusion dampening the hysteria that usually would have taken over, but there was a good round of chuckles and laughter. When it settled down, Damian’s shoulders had slightly relaxed but he still hadn’t taken Marinette’s hand. Instead, he turned to his father again.
“Explain.” He demanded. Bruce sighed, his gaze connecting with Marinette’s own identical one. He searched her for any hesitation, but only got a flash of a bright smile in return. Bruce straightened his shoulders, clasping his hands behind his back and turning to face Damian and the rest of the room.
“I found out about Marinette shortly after Damian was… introduced to the family,” Bruce admitted, resisting the urge to glance at Marinette after the hedged mention of how he met Damian. “I decided to scour every resource I had to make sure I couldn’t be surprised by another biological child. And, lo and behold, I found out that I was right to do so. Her biological mother passed away in childbirth however, so she was adopted by a couple in Paris. I did not see any need to contact her at the time. A friend of mine did happen to be in Paris back then though, and hung around to make sure Marinette was being treated well before leaving again.”
“You sent a friend of yours to spy on me?” Marinette asked, but she just sounded thoroughly amused. “Geez. Now I know where I get it from. When I was thirteen, I had a bit of a bad habit of spying on my friends when I was worried instead of confronting them head on. It took a while to grow out of, and even now I can easily slip back into the habit if I’m not careful. But, as great as this reunion is, it isn’t what I’m being paid to be here for,” Her grin turned downright wicked as she snapped open her sketchbook and clicked her pen.
“I am MDC, the owner and CEO of the up and rising fashion label Spotted Designs, where every look will turn heads and ensure confidence. Monsieur Wayne,” her grin turned into a sly smirk when she said his name, which visibly made Bruce twitch. “Has hired me today to design all of you a new outfit for his gala in four months time, as well as a casual outfit of your own choosing should you want one. Before I get started, I would like to ask you to please sign your NDAs, which my assistant and best friend will bring in for you in a few minutes, before we conclude this meeting. I go by an alias for a reason, I value my privacy, and I would prefer it if word did not get out about my being MDC just yet. Being CEO of a business I started from scratch when I’m only eighteen right now will garner attention that I am not patient enough to deal with right now.”
The silence was near palpable until Jason huffed in amusement and remarked: “Yup. I can see the resemblance.”
“Resemblance?” Duke asked, leaning forward with an incredulous look on his face. “It’s like seeing a tiny, genderswapped, innocent copy of Damian. Is anyone else terrified right now?”
“Tt,” Damian tutted, letting a heavy breath out through his nose before shoving his hand forward. He didn’t look pleased, but neither did he look venomous or betrayed anymore. “Miss Dupain-Cheng. I am Damian Wayne, and I look forward to working with you.” He greeted as if the past few minutes hadn’t happened at all. Marinette beamed, letting out a short belt of delighted laughter before clasping his hand firmly with hers.
“My competence always wins people over,” she teased.
“Only if they don’t see you trip over empty air first,” a new voice joined in, lightly joining the teasing. It belonged to a tall, blond haired green eyed man that looked about the same age as Marinette herself. He came carrying a large two-foot stack of papers as easily as if he was only carrying one sheet. Closing the door behind him with his foot, he went around the large square of tables distributing NDAs to everyone who hadn’t already signed one. “Mari’s the clumsiest person I’ve ever seen, but I’ve also seen her hand sew a double sided ball gown with a layer of knife-resistant fabric in less than thirty hours and still threaten anyone to come near with a needle to the eye, so I’ve learned to just not take anything about her at face value anymore.”
“Oh shut up,” Marinette snapped back cheerfully, rolling her eyes. “This is my best friend, assistant, and business partner Adrien Agreste.”
“I deal with all the paperwork and spotlight that she doesn’t want to handle,” he agreed, nearly blinding everyone with his beaming smile. “Now. Please sign these NDAs, and you can experience Marinette’s skill firsthand.”
After papers were signed and Adrien left, Bruce tried to start another conversation with Marinette.
“So, when did you find out—“
“I’m going to start with taking all of your measurements, if you don’t mind. You first, Monsieur Wayne.”
Bruce blinked, not used to being interrupted. “Ah. We can do this tomorrow, I wasn’t expecting—“
“That’s not my fault, Monsieur Wayne. I came here knowing exactly who I was going to deal with, and you want me to make a quite frankly horrifying amount of clothing in a very short amount of time. Any designer lesser than me would be completely incapable of meeting your deadline. I plan on sticking to my schedule, which means that we are going to get everyone’s measurements and a baseline of the kind of designs you all want done today before the end of our scheduled appointment.”
“Marinette, I would really like to talk about—“
“Arms out. And take your suit jacket off, I can’t get an accurate measurement with it,” she once again interrupted, businesslike and efficient as she took her measuring tape and lined it up against various parts of his body, jotting down the results. She didn’t entertain any of his attempts at conversation in the meantime, instead using the dead time to grill Damian on what he wanted for his suit design.
And, like a partnership that never should have existed, Damian merely smirked and played along with her game. He answered her questions thoroughly but precisely, never allowing their father a chance to make actual conversation. Next thing the poor eldest Wayne knew, Marinette had already taken everyone’s measurements and almost an hour had passed. No less than ten pages of her notebook were already filled with neat lines of notes and numbers.
“You really take this whole thing seriously, don’t you?” Tim asked, in the middle of describing his ideal suit to Marinette. She hummed, grinning up at him mysteriously. As if she was in on a joke he hadn’t heard.
“Designing is my life, Monsieur Drake. This company is something I’ve been building from the ground up since I was thirteen, I’ve made my own clothes since I was ten. Of course I take it seriously. Now. I believe that is everything I need,” she stood up, asking a few last second questions as she gathered up her things. Seeing his chance, Brucie walked her to the door.
“Really, Marinette, I would like to talk to you more. Would you like to come to the Manor tonight, for dinner maybe?”
Marinette smirked, opening the door before Bruce could and turning her head to say over her shoulder: “Not tonight, but maybe tomorrow. Do me a favor though, and try not to get too injured on patrol. I need you all in good enough shape to stand while I do your initial fittings later this week. Gotham might need it’s vigilantes, but you will all regret it if you break a bone before I can fit my prototypes to you.”
Nobody was able to say a word before she closed the door behind her and continued briskly to the elevator. Bruce stood, dumbfounded. Tim, Jason, and Dick, after a moment, started cackling.
“Oh yeah. That’s Damian’s sister.”
“Tt. At least this proves it.”
Bruce, suddenly very exhausted, turned to his son while rubbing his forehead. “Proves what, Damian?”
His trademark razor sharp smirk overtook his face as Damian replied: “Your blood children really are much more competent and effective than the strays you took in.”
“Hey!”
—*—*—*—*—*
“You didn’t have a full conversation?” Adrien guessed, looking exactly like the cat who caught the canary. Marinette had her head in her hands, her entire face red.
“I didn't know how to have an actual conversation with them, Adrien! You should have seen it, Monsieur Wayne—“
“You can just say your father, you know.”
“—Wanted to talk about feelings. Emotions! Gooey, family stuff and probably sentimental things. In front of so many people, too. I panicked!”
“You panicked and went full Business Empress mode,” Adrien agreed, patting her back in both comfort and condescension. “It’s okay. You at least agreed to dinner tomorrow night.”
“Fuuuuuuuuuck, I diiiiiid. Quick, let’s come up with a way to fake my kidnapping.”
“No.”
“Damn.”
I wish you would write a fic where there's age regression, and possibly more Kon/Conner. How do you age-regress a quick-aged genetic experiment? Or, conversely, Conner takes care of an age-regressed teammate (and has no idea what he's doing)!
I LOVE age regression but I like neeeeever write it, it's such a weird oversight on my part. I actually even HAVE an unfinished YJ fic about the whole team getting de-aged that's just, like, chilling in my docs. I never figured out where it was going aside from "making things weird for Superman", though, although I really liked it at the time.
So hey, you know what, have a read more:
--
There's some kind of fuss going on around Young Justice, although Clark isn't sure what. He overhears Hal and Dinah bickering about something to do with Artemis and Speedy—Red Arrow, although “Speedy” is so much clearer a memory—but they don't go into detail. Something about mad science and a mission gone wrong and . . . Lunchables?
Clark very rarely mishears things, but that he is CERTAIN he did.
It isn't his business, though, so he doesn't ask for clarification. If the League needs his help, they'll ask him; otherwise it has nothing to do with him.
Unfortunately, then Bruce actually asks for his help.
There's no excuse good enough to get by Batman, and so Clark finds himself materializing inside Mount Justice with the halfhearted hope that they just need something improbably heavy moved—ANYTHING that will just take a moment, in and out. Oddly, there's no one waiting to meet him, although he can hear arguing and laughter and running water and a dozen other sounds of life from different corners of the mountain.
Closer, and more concerning, he can hear tears.
Clark ignores the other voices and Bruce's distant, Kevlar-muffled heartbeat to follow the tiny, hitched breaths down the hall. He doesn't have to go far.
There's a little boy curled up in a shadowed alcove not even big enough to be a broom closet, five years old if he's a day and wearing a black T-shirt and cargo pants and oddly heavy-looking boots. He looks wounded and small and brokenhearted from the lie of his shoulders alone.
Clark stares in bemusement for a moment—a child THIS young in Mount Justice?—but another muffled sob takes immediate precedence and he drops into a crouch just outside the boy's personal space.
“Are you alright?” he asks gently, and the boy jumps in surprise and jerks his head up. He has the most ENORMOUS blue eyes Clark thinks he's ever seen, and also the most horrified.
“I wasn't crying!” the boy blurts, still crying, and scrubs the tears away frantically.
“It's fine if you were,” Clark tells him, gentling his voice even more, and the boy looks at him like the world just ended. Blue eyes, black hair, broken heart; he remembers Dick four years ago, remembers what happened to make Dick ROBIN. Wonders what Bruce is doing, exactly, and if THIS is the emergency he is supposed to help with.
“YOU wouldn't,” the boy says, hiccuping around another sob, and Clark just smiles reassuringly at him.
“Everyone does,” he says, and fresh tears well in the boy's eyes and he turns his face into the corner, huddled up so small it actually HURTS to see. Clark is used to misery, he has seen more of it than he can stand to remember, but that doesn't make it any easier to watch.
He could ask what happened, what is so upsetting, but doesn't want the boy to have to think about what's making him cry like that, so devastated and LONELY in a place full of people, and so instead reaches out and rests a hand on his shoulder, carefully. The boy freezes, sobs and breath and HEART all stopping, and Clark lightens the contact, but doesn't quite withdraw.
“Are you hurt?” he asks with all the gentleness he would usually reserve for restraining the full scope of Superman's strength down into catching a falling body, embracing a victim, kissing a loved one. The boy SHUDDERS and starts back up again, tears falling faster and his attempts to respond all breaking up too much to finish. Finally he just shakes his head, HARD, and buries his face back in his arms.
He is so small.
“Is there something I can do for you?” Clark asks, and the boy just cries HARDER, somehow, and now he's concerned because how can every attempt to do something for the boy make him that much more UPSET? All the power in the world means nothing when he can't help a person who's in pieces.
There's a shriek somewhere in the base, loud and childish and startlingly giddy in comparison to this moment, and Clark startles slightly and looks towards it, automatically dropping the hand on the boy's shoulder to touch his earpiece, meaning to call Bruce and ask what, exactly, is going on here—but then the boy whimpers.
But no. “Whimper” is not enough of a word, “whimper” cannot possibly contain the pain and DESPAIR in that sound, the way it TEARS out of the boy and through Clark worse than any other kind of hit, worse than perhaps ANYTHING.
“It's alright,” he says, fast, forgetting about the communicator altogether and reaching out again. “Shhh, it's alright, it's alright, son—”
The boy SOBS.
Clark has never in his life heard a worse sound than that sob.
Something like panic flits through him, he doesn't even know where from, and he barely keeps himself from grabbing the boy and yanking him to his chest—it would be too hard, too sudden, too frightening for an already distraught child. The moment it takes him to force down the driving NEED to is literally painful, and when it passes it still doesn't really pass.
Clark takes off his cape, carefully, and wraps the boy up in it—hides him in it, he admits to himself, but it's not hard to admit when the boy himself seems to welcome the idea of vanishing inside its folds. He picks him up in one arm, cradles him in the crook of it, and the boy curls up as tight as if he really COULD disappear. The sobbing dies down into almost-silence, barely more than hitched breath again, and Clark holds him close and heads towards the sound of people. He can't help the child if he doesn't know what's wrong, and clearly the boy's in no condition to explain what's happened to him for himself.
He thinks of plenty of awful possibilities on the way, but doesn't get halfway there before a sudden blur of black and red and yellow tears down the hall and skids to a stop in front of him, solidifying into two more small boys, although not as small as the one in his arms.
Infinitely more recognizable, though.
Clark blinks, and looks down at a brightly grinning nine-year old Robin riding piggyback on a beaming Kid Flash . . . that IS Kid Flash, isn't it, he thinks, except he can't be a day past nine himself, and Kid Flash DEFINITELY never wore that suit or ran like that when he was nine.
NEITHER of them should be nine.
“What . . .” he starts, slowly, and the boy in his arms peers out from underneath his cape and sniffles, once.
“Found him!” Kid Flash yells back down the hall, and Robin throws both hands up in the air with a crow of triumph, falling off Kid Flash's back into an effortless back walkover in the process.
“We win!” he says gleefully. “Go Team Batflash, suck it, Team Aquamartian and Double-Arrow!”
“'BATflash'? Why isn't it FlashBAT?” Kid Flash demands indignantly, and Robin just laughs condescendingly and reaches up to give his head a little pat.
“Oh please, it is SO Batflash,” he says. Clark stares down at both of them with a certain sinking feeling, and the boy in his arms scrubs at his tear-streaked face again, and the cape slips lower and for the first time he sees the front of the boy's shirt.
Sees the symbol on the front of the boy's shirt.
He hears a Kevlar-muffled heartbeat and then Bruce is there, staring evenly at him. For a moment Clark is . . . shaken, that is the only word for it, and then Bruce's arms are up and then he's completely bemused, because it LOOKS like Bruce wants him to give him . . .
“Superboy,” Bruce says, and the boy fumbles out of his cape and his arms and into BRUCE'S and latches on, latches on so hard Bruce's body armor audibly CREAKS. Clark feels a sudden irrational rush of frustration—Superboy did anything BUT hold onto him—and then everything actually sinks in.
“What happened?” he manages, or mostly manages, still holding his empty cape and feeling . . . feeling very strange for it. Kid Flash starts babbling at super-speed, Robin too busy scowling sulkily up at Superboy to properly contribute, and it's not very different from overhearing Hal and Dinah—mad science and a mission gone wrong and Black Canary totally bought them all Lunchables she is the AWESOMEST EVER—except this time Clark is actually listening.
This time it has something to DO with him.
“I see,” Clark says when Kid Flash finally runs out of air and falls over gasping, taking Robin down with him. Robin yelps, and Kid Flash laughs breathlessly, and they scuffle for no apparent reason. Superboy is still hiding against Bruce, holding on with that Kevlar-creaking grip.
Then it occurs to Clark that he's been too busy staring at Superboy to pay attention to Bruce, and his eyes flick to the other man's.
It . . . takes a lot of distraction to not notice Bruce has been glaring at you.
To not notice BATMAN has been glaring at you.
“You're late,” Bruce says, sharply.
“You only called ten minutes ago,” Clark reminds him, and Bruce's lips thin and even without the X-ray vision Clark can read the look the other is sending him: you could've been here in two. It's not that he . . . he didn't mean to AVOID . . .
He didn't want to come, Clark admits to himself, and his eyes trail back down to Superboy like all the weight of creation is calling them down. If he has ever, ever held that weight, this is that moment. But why should it be, he wonders, why NOW—
What a stupid question, he thinks, watching the closest thing he will ever have to blood hide from him in such obvious shame and fear.
“Superboy,” he says, slowly, and Superboy flinches. Kevlar creaks, and Bruce's lips go even thinner; Clark doesn't have to be Superman to know that HURT. But Bruce doesn't say a word or change his grip at all, and . . . and Clark remembers being a child, remembers running into Pa's arms crying and covered in mud and Pa hadn't cared about getting his good suit dirty; remembers Ma wrapping her arms around him when he slipped in shivering from sleet and rain, not minding the icy meltwater soaking into her dress. Remembers growing older, watching other families, and thinking that parents who did things like that were the best anyone could hope for.
Remembers finding out he would never BE a parent, because he wasn't human. Because Kryptonians and humans couldn't crossbreed. Because he was the last and would ALWAYS be, because he was going to die someday and so would EVERYTHING of his people, everything his birth parents had wanted to SAVE—
Clark is aware, very suddenly, that he is responsible for Superboy's existence. He is the one who decided to put on the cape. He is the one who decided to BE the cape.
He made Superman, and no one would ever have made Superboy if he hadn't.
He made a choice.
He made a choice, and that means . . .
Bruce inhales, a little stiffly with the way Superboy is crushing his body armor, and turns on his heel and walks away. Robin and Kid Flash tear after him, Robin grabbing the edge of his cape like a little . . . like a child, of course, Clark thinks, and follows as well.
Superboy is still hiding from him.
“Batman,” he starts, but doesn't know where to go from there. Bruce ignores him, and Clark struggles for words, for SOMETHING that will . . . for something. Robin disappears under Bruce's cape, Kid Flash bolts restlessly from place to place in the hall, almost fast enough to blur to even Clark's vision, and Superboy never releases his grip on Bruce's armor or lifts his head.
They come to the end of the hall, and it opens into a common room; Dinah looks up, her face flushed and upset and a boy who can't be more than one or two sniffling in her arms, chubby little hands covering his masked face. Red Arrow, Clark recognizes immediately, because Dinah could not possibly look like that for anyone else, and that armored and forbidding costume looks so ODD on a child so small—as odd as Superboy's steel-toed boots. Artemis is scowling angrily, arms crossed in a defensive posture, and she is all skinny limbs and knobby knees, twelve years old if she's a day. Kid Flash and Robin immediately fix her with matching scowls.
“What'd you do to Speedy?” they demand in near-perfect indignant unison, and Artemis GLOWERS.
“Nothing!” she snaps. “He just wants Green Arrow and Green Arrow's still in Star City, it's not MY fault he's too stupid to understand, y'know!”
“I bet you were a jerk to him again!” Kid Flash accuses, pointing at her.
“I was NOT!” Artemis fumes.
“Then how come he always ends up cryin' whenever we leave him with you?” Robin asks grumpily, foot tap-tap-tapping erratically against the floor and fingers fisting tighter in Bruce's cape. He keeps sneaking glances that are closer to glares up at Superboy, and Clark, irrationally, wants to scold him for it—as if that were even his place, in regards to either boy.
“'Cause he's STUPID, I told you!” Artemis snaps back, flipping her ponytail over her shoulder, and Dinah grits her teeth.
“That's ENOUGH,” she says sharply, cradling Red Arrow tighter to herself, and he sniffles again and grabs at her hair with his sticky little tear and snot-stained gloves, burying his equally sticky little face in it. Dinah's expression turns pained, but she doesn't shoo him away. “I'm going to kill Ollie,” she says, in a surprisingly sweet tone, and pats Red Arrow's back soothingly.
“Wan' OWWY!” Red Arrow wails, and the children all cringe at the volume, clapping their hands over their ears. Clark barely represses the urge to do the same.
“There, there, darling, Ollie's coming,” Dinah croons, swaying gently and stroking a hand through Red Arrow's hair. “And he'll probably bring a camera and NEVER let you live this down, oh no he won't. And blubber all over you, that too, yes!”
Clark considers asking what Red Arrow was even DOING with Young Justice and also if anyone in the room even slightly cares about Green Arrow's secret identity, but decides there's not much point. He's more curious about the fact that the kids have somehow all turned out vastly different ages despite apparently having been hit with the same still-unidentified ray—with the exception of Robin and Kid Flash, that is, but even that's strange considering they were different ages to start with, and the gaps between one and eighteen and twelve and fifteen are MILES more than that. As for Superboy . . .
Clark's not even sure Superboy ever actually WAS five years old, and if he was it probably didn't last this long.
“Is Red Tornado still with Aqualad and Miss Martian?” Bruce asks, and Dinah nods, looking weary but almost amused despite that.
“Aqualad INSISTED on checking the pool and showers for Superboy,” she says. “He seemed pretty convinced no one could possibly want to hide anywhere dry if they were feeling sad.”
“Well, we HAVE found him holed up in the showers before,” Artemis says, tugging absently at the bottom of her ponytail. “They kinda remind him of his pod, y'know? But they're, y'know, probably too big now.” Bruce grunts assent, and Clark remembers how tight the alcove he found Superboy tucked into was, and feels . . . strange about it.
He should have the whole SKY, something whispers in the back of his head. He should have wide open fields and miles and miles where the only buildings are barns and silos and little houses and there aren't even trees or planes overhead, where everything is flat and bright and clear and ENDLESS.
“Contact Miss Martian and inform her we've found Superboy,” Bruce tells the—currently—older children, and they all nod and squeeze their eyes shut tight with extremely concentrated expressions. Clark wonders when Bruce is going to put Superboy down. That can't be COMFORTABLE, being held onto that tightly for so long; the merciless grip of Superboy's small arms probably feels like being slowly crushed.
Clark isn't sure how strong the boy actually is, of course, because Superboy wasn't holding onto him at all when he carried him, much less holding on that hard. Much stronger than he was at that age, he knows, just like Kid Flash is much faster than he should be and Robin and Artemis both a little too graceful.
He should say something, he thinks in the silence, but then Red Arrow starts sniffling again and Dinah starts singing him a lilty little Irish lullaby and Robin and Kid Flash immediately swarm her while Artemis pretends not to be perking up curiously, and Superboy lifts his face just a little, just for a moment.
Then he sees Clark, and hides it again.
That's . . .
“We're here, we're here!” a loud, childish voice shouts, and Miss Martian darts into the room on chubby little-girl legs, huffing and puffing excitedly and with her cape all tangled up around her shoulders. She looks five or six, and Aqualad who's right on her heels with a worried expression and attempting to untangle her might be seven. Red Tornado follows them in, apparently unconcerned about the clothing issue, and Miss Martian hops up into the air and starts tugging at Superboy's shirt. “Superboy, don't be—don't be scared, you're not lost anymore! We found you!”
“WE found him!” Robin protests indignantly, scowling up at her.
“Superman found him,” Batman corrects, visibly unimpressed, and it's the most acknowledgment Clark's had from anyone in the conversation since they left the hall. He tries to take it as reason to speak, but the right words won't come—they never do, when it's about Superboy.
“Superman doesn't count,” Kid Flash says, glowering with startling vehemence, more startling for the way Robin and Artemis match it. Even Miss Martian frowns, although on her it looks closer to a pout, and Aqualad just sighs and reaches up to tug lightly at the bottom of Superboy's shirt, so small and so serious.
“Superboy, do you want to come play with us?” he asks, the picture of a too-responsible and too-concerned little boy. “It is your turn to pick the game.”
“I don't know any games,” Superboy mumbles, still hiding against Bruce. “Just the ones you guys taught me today.”
“Which was your favorite? We can play that one again,” Aqualad suggests, and Superboy finally peers down at him. He still looks uncomfortable and unhappy, but not so upset anymore—thirty seconds, and Aqualad has calmed and comforted Superboy in a way Clark hadn't even come CLOSE to when he'd tried.
Annnnnd that's as far as I ever got, alas. But I did really enjoy writing it, so I'm all for an excuse to share it, haha.
Chapter title: you should see me in a crown
You should see me in a crown Your silence is my favorite sound Watch me make 'em bow One by, one by one
Here's: Marinette and Kagami didn't expect the transformation to be so outrageously obvious.
Of course, Diana had warned the teenagers that it could happen, but- again, they didn't think it would be so drastic. The growing pains had been, well, a pain. A brutal one.
If Marinette was being bitter, she would blame Tikki for this happening to her and her miraculous partners, but she knew for a fact that it was not the fault of the kwamis for this lack of information.
It was the first time since the world was created, that the miraculous were given to literal children. So, for that reason the side effects were something unknown. But they believed that they had already discovered all the effects after five years wielding the jewelry.
Diana was able to destroy any idea they had about it, since none of them noticed the biggest and most obvious side effect of the miraculous:
They were trapped in underdeveloped bodies for seventeen/eighteen-year-olds teenagers. And that wasn't just because their genetics made them look more youthful, no. The active use of Ladybug’s cure was slowing the aging journey of the other heroes, as they were the hardest hit by healing magic.
So, when Diana - Wonder Woman - invited the miraculous female team to Themyscira to correct this problem with the Amazons, Marinette, Kagami, Chloe and Alix did not hesitate to accept.
The men's team had already been invited by Arthur Curry - Aquaman - because men were not allowed on Themyscira, but also because training with Arthur would be more ideal for them than that of the Amazons.
Zatanna encouraging and assuring the heroes that she would maintain a blocking spell throughout Paris to prevent Hawkmoth from acting.
They left their homes with an excuse to travel the world. Adrien was a little more difficult to get out of Gabriel's claws, but in the end, with Bruce Wayne's call, Adrien was able to leave Paris alone with friends. They were ready.
That's when Marinette suffered.
Starting with all the miraculous having to be resigned in order for the effect of magic to expunge faster, the box being kept safe in Themyscira. And then with the infernal training that the Amazons put them through.
Before, Marinette and Kagami prided themselves on being the most agile and sharp in the fights against akumas, but being in Themyscira showed that they did not even reach the feet of the youngest warriors in the island.
So, it was already clear that if Kagami and Marinette were having problems, Chloe and Alix felt death touching their souls with affection.
(The boys also suffered in those months in Atlantis. Arthur was not at all merciful in teaching them.)
Anyway, when the two and a half month mark reached, the physical changes were simply too glaring to go through a simple growth spurt.
Marinette never envied Chloe and Alix so much for not being predisposed to be tall naturally.
Of all four, Marinette grew the most in height without the influence of the miraculous. She may or may not have cried when she reached 5'11” with Kagami and Hippolyta said she would still grow a few inches.
She didn't care much for stretch marks on her joints, but she complained about the growing pains. Kagami was not very vocal, but the grimaces of pain she let out did not let anyone be fooled.
But even with the pain, the teachings and the struggles, Marinette was happy that they were finally having the right mentoring to guide them. Fu had left very early, much of his knowledge was not passed on.
○○○
After almost struggling to free Marinette from Chloe, they left the blonde sleeping on the brunette's bed while she showered.
Alix ate a croissant, Damian and Luka talked about strategies against Hawkmoth and Plume.
"I already talked to Zatanna and she will release the blocking barrier in three days, just so Hawkmoth doesn't suspect anything." Damian looked at Alix, attracting the young woman's attention. "It would be very suspicious if the barrier was broken just on the same day that Dupont's classes returned."
Alix nodded in agreement. "Did she say anything about tracking the miraculous?"
Luka sighed despondently. "No. She will probably only make it when they are active, meaning- “
"We will have to wait for Plume and Hawkmoth to attack again to get any leads."
Marinette came into the room, fully dressed - a black skater dress with the pattern of delicate cherry blossoms, reaching a few inches above the knee, v-neck and short sleeves; white liner socks - and dry hair stuck in a messy bun, leaving the bangs framing the pretty face.
Luka and Damian swallowed at the glorious sight. She managed to be strong and cute at the same time. And it destroyed them so good.
"He should attack as soon as he feels the barrier is gone." Alix replied and it took both of them out of inappropriate thoughts. Marinette's knowing look showed that she knew exactly where the boyfriends' minds ran.
"And that is why we will be making a war council in half an hour." She reached for the pair of white sneakers on the shoe rack and tucked them in her feet, the laces already tied. “Everyone has already been warned. I will be delivering the miraculous and we will make plans on how to take down Hawkmoth for good.”
"... But first we have to wake Chloe." Luka points. "Who's going to be the unlucky one?"
○○○
After managing to wake Chloe without resulting in a murder, they were quick to leave Marinette's home for Fu's massage parlor, the current headquarters of the miraculous team and where Zatanna had lived for three months when they were away.
"We are here, losers!" Alix announced pompously.
Upon arriving, they found Adrien talking to Jon in a corner; Max, Tim and Barbara on the computer browsing documents that appeared to be important; Félix and Kagami sat at the big table - which Adrien insisted on calling the round table and Marinette found it unnecessary - analyzing a detailed hologram of the streets of Paris.
No sign of Kim or Zatanna yet.
The entry of the five drew everyone's attention; Tim and Felix's eyes doubled in size as they focused on Marinette.
"What the hell, Mari?!" Tim choked on his words.
"This is what I call transformation." Barbara commented amusedly.
“Everyone has undergone drastic changes, Drake. I'm sure you didn't react that way when you saw the others.” Marinette replied.
"Of course not! Nobody came here looking like an Amazon.”
Kagami coughed against the fist, eyebrow raised.
"Okay, I take back what I said." Tim raises his hands in surrender. "But you have to agree with me, Marinette is the most surprising change here."
Adrien nodded frantically in agreement. “When you showed up at school earlier, everyone was shocked. I hardly recognized you.”
Max and Felix scoffed. "Yes, we noticed the warm looks you were shooting at Mari." Max pointed out causing Adrien to choke in embarrassment.
“Oh, is that so? Interesting." Damian murmured, a frankly murderous look on his face. He had already taken the seat next to Felix.
"What? No! You got it wrong.” Adrien stammered, his cheeks red.
“Okay, Adrien. I'm not jealous." Luka said. The malicious curve in the corner of his mouth making it clear that the musician was loving seeing the model turn into a hot mess in front of everyone.
"Luka!" Adrien groaned painfully and turned to Jon. “You know it's not true, right? Everyone knows that I only have eyes for you.” He pouted.
The brunette put his arm around the blonde's waist, bringing him a little closer. “Of course, I know dear. I totally trust my charm.” He winked seductively; Adrien's blush only growing in intensity.
The two of them seeming to forget that their friends were there.
"Ugh, nobody deserves to watch these two making out with their eyes." Chloe moaned on the chair, still drowsy and irritated at being woken up.
"Think on the bright side!" Marinette said happily.
"What would it be...?"
"At least this time they are dressed and aware that there are other people in the room." Kim replied upon entering.
"... I think we better split them up before they really forget we're here." Kagami pointed a finger at the two boys who had started a kiss in a way that, in her opinion, should be inappropriate for people under fifty.
"Does anyone have a spray bottle?" Damian asked.
And Marinette stopped to analyze the physical changes in her team.
So, the fact was: yes, Marinette was the person with the greatest physical change among the miraculous group. Because in addition to the height, she got muscles (which she didn't have before). It wasn't something like a body builder would be, but it also made it clear that she had a pretty intense exercise routine.
Kagami had also grown a lot, losing to Mari by just a few inches. Even before wielding the dragon's miraculous, she had already developed some muscle due to the intense fencing routine; so, the only things that had changed was the increase in body mass around the shoulders, biceps and calves.
Alix didn't grow much, just two inches from what she was before, and the muscles in her body hadn't been developed as visibly as the two asian girls. She had a better definition, elasticity and mobility had improved dramatically.
Chloe was the only one of the four parisian heroines who had no visible change. She remained thin and flexible, with no pronounced hard muscles. Diana had said that the blonde's body was the type that hid her power. The deceptive, fragile type, but who was agile and fatal. Which suited Chloe.
Of the boys, the shock had been Damian. Damian, who, like Marinette, was one of the smallest on the team - followed by Alix and Max - reached his desired height of 6’3”; surpassing both Bruce and Jason, the tallest in the Wayne family.
But that didn't surprise Marinette or Tim, since Damian's parents were both quite tall. They hoped that eventually Damian would start to grow like a weed.
Anyway. While Damian did not grow muscle mass like a brick house like Jason, his shoulders grew broad and powerful, biceps pronounced, muscles lean and defined. He achieved a perfect match between raw power and agility.
Luka surprisingly hasn't changed much. He put a few inches more - taller than Marinette by just an inch, but smaller than Damian by four - but his muscles didn't grow. They just became more defined. And Marinette understood that.
Among all of them, Luka, Alix and Max were the ones who least physically attacked akumas; sometimes they even stayed out of the fight, as their powers were only for a very critical situation.
Adrien somehow still had room to grow. You see, it wasn't like he was short before; for a twelve-year-old boy - before wielding the ring - he was already quite tall, so even with the magic interfering, he still had a decent height for a teenager.
Then discover that there was still room for him to reach Damian? That was surprising.
Unlike Luka, Adrien gained muscle mass. The blonde, over the years, showed that there was no mercy when it came to eating. He never refused food, always chewing what he could as if there was no tomorrow, since at home, his diet was strict. But even with that, he never gained weight.
Always the same skinny boy as always. So skinny that Sabine had made it her life's mission to fatten the Agreste boy. (Which did not work, but it did not diminish the determination of the Chinese woman.)
Then, without the interference of magic, Adrien grew up.
The boy who was once skin and bone, now looked like the blonde version with green eyes of Kim. He didn't get uncomfortably muscular, but the muscle tone he got was insane. Even wearing a hoodie that was supposed to be 2x bigger than its ideal size, it was possible to see that some corners of the seams were stretched on the shoulders and chest.
Gabriel probably burst a vein when he saw his son's transformation. The more youthful Adrien looked, the better it was for him to sell the image of "teenage prince".
Kim was the least surprised, as he was already big even for a teenager. In addition to his shoulders - which became broader - he grew a few inches, bumping head-on with Marinette and Luka. The chest remained strong and his body seemed to have no problem staying flexible.
Félix followed the same path as Luka - which Marinette secretly thanked, since finding a bodybuilder Félix would be beyond strange -, remaining tall and elegant. Lean, well-defined muscles. He remembered Chloe's changes. Silent, but fatal.
He was also in the race for whoever got higher with Adrien and Damian.
Max, on the other hand, must not have grown more than five inches. His muscle tone did not grow at an alarming rate either, remaining mostly thin, but looking agile. Like a person who runs five miles every morning without losing his breath or sweating.
Which was good, since Max was never a fitness person and everyone knew it. If he appeared like a damn monster truck out of nowhere - like Marinette, Kagami and Adrien - it would make people ask even more and they didn't want to attract more attention than they were already getting.
All of this, of course, without pointing out the other obvious changes that puberty brought.
The lack of baby fat, sharp jaws, developed curves, deep voices... Marinette managed to get used to her new height, but was not finding peace of mind with the new weight of her chest.
She clapped her hands to get everyone's attention and smiled.
"Let's start?"
And everyone, including the two lovebirds, sat around the table.
They would only leave with a solid plan against Hawkmoth.
BONUS:
"Wow, did you see how some of Ms. Bustier's and Ms. Mendeleiev's students looked different?" Lila heard extra #1 gossip with extra #2.
"I saw it, girl!" Extra #2 responded. "Everyone is saying that they joined a gang."
"Oho, do you believe that?!"
"Well, won't you say that you didn't find Agreste's new appearance strange?"
Lila jumped when she heard the name of one of her enemies. She moved closer to the two girls to hear the conversation better.
It could be something she could use against the ice king.
“Did you see Dupain-Cheng?! That was insane!”
The Italian bristled when she heard Maribrat's name. Still confused about what the two girls were talking about.
She had decided not to go on the first day of school to make a flashy comeback, so what had happened, she didn't know.
"And Adrien?!"
"I know!"
And that was it! Lila needed to know in detail what was going on.
"Excuse me, girls..." She sweetened her voice as much as she could. The two girls looked at her confused. "I wanted to first apologize for listening to your conversation and also to ask what you were talking about..." The ‘poor woman’ expression stuck to her face.
The two girls were even more confused. "Didn't you come yesterday?"
"No. My flight from Achu took longer than expected and I just arrived today.”
"Ah..." Extra #2 waved. “Is that- Ah! In fact, just look back and you will understand!” She said hastily.
Extra #1 looked over Lila's shoulder with a haunted expression. Waving violently.
And when Lila turned... What the fuck was that.
“Alright gang.” Tony begins, standing in front of all the Avengers at the end of a large oval table in the conference room.
“I’m sure you’ve seen these ‘viral videos’ of this Spider-Boy kid swinging around the city and being a friendly neighbourhood vigilante. Well, Happy and I have managed to track him down and he’s agreed to join the team”
“Viral videos of superheroes?” Steve exclaims, looking at Tony whilst tilting his head and looking genuinely exhausted. “I’m still catching up on these keyboard cats and kids biting fingers”.
I giggle. Having Steve around was just the same as having an uncle you saw once the year who lived of the grid. He was extremely sweet, but utterly clueless to anything other than his job. But I mean, that job does include fighting evil aliens.
“Anyway…” Tony continues as the other Avengers chuckles die down after Steve’s outcry “he arrived not too long ago. Happy is next door giving him all the T&Qs and they should be done now. Let me just check and I’ll introduce you all.” Tony then leaves the room, and the other Avengers start to talk among themselves.
I pull out my phone and type ‘NYC spider boy’ into YouTube clicking on the second search result with 20 million views. I have seen this video before as my friend Michael sent it to me around a week ago.
“Do you think there are many other super kids wandering around the city?” Sam asks, whilst looking at the video of my shoulder. Currently the hero is stopping a city bus from off-roading into some confused tourists by building up a wall with his web.
“I doubt it, I mean I guess he’s the only one going viral” I answer, moving the angle of my phone so the others who have gathered around me can see “but it would be cool to be able to meet some people my age who do what I do, no offence guys”
They all laugh. Being the youngest Avenger and hanging out with 30+ year olds all the time can be kind of isolating, but it’s like having a super close family. A family who also happen to be in life and death situations regularly together. But that’s a great bonding experience I would say.
“Guys, this is Peter, the Spider-Boy” Tony draws our attention away from my phone to the door where he has just entered.
“Spider-Man” Peter mutters as a lame attempt to correct him.
“Peter?” I question and the boy stood in front of me was not who I expected. I didn’t expect the masked vigilante swinging through New York to be someone that I knew.
“Y/N?” He responds, looking even more confused than I am “What are you doing here?”
-
“So Tony Stark is your dad?” Peter asks.
After seeing a guy from your school who you shared a chemistry class with last year, walking into a super-secret meeting for superheroes where he will be now joining your team. It is understandable that Peter and I were now talking this out to figure out how this state could be so small.
“Yep” I answer. We were sat next to each other on bar stools at the kitchen island. Wanda made some of her famous fruit smoothies for us and we were both stirring them around with our straws whilst conversing alone in the main living space.
“But your last name isn’t Stark, or Potts?” He continues, genuinely really confused about this whole situation.
“Yeah, well you can’t have the daughter of a billionaire and superhero couple walking around New York City alone, going to a normal school, having normal hobbies. It’s like asking for me to be taken hostage. So, I don’t have either of their last names and the general public doesn’t know I exist. It’s for my safety” I continue, reciting this memorised answer I’ve had to say to multiple people once they find out my existence.
Peter nodded as if he was understanding everything, he probably was, but I guess this wasn’t the conversation he planned to have today.
“And you’re the great Spider-Man” I continued, wanting the change the subject from me to him. “How did that happen? Wait… were you Spider-Man when you sat behind me in Chem last year?”
He began to explain to me the story, it happened to him on our school trip to OSCORP we took last year for our Chem class that happened just before the end of the semester. Something about a radioactive spider. It was strange, kind of the weirdest superhero transformation story I’ve heard. And I’ve heard quite a few.
My story was nowhere near as interesting. I guess having superhero parents who were always around weird alien technology and contaminated substances led to some weird epigenetic alterations of their reproductive cells and then when they had me, I could turn invisible.
They didn’t know at first, I was seemingly a normal baby. Then at my 2nd birthday party when they surprised me with a freaky clown, I was so scared that my body just decided to turn invisible. They weren’t expecting it, the clown definitely wasn’t expecting it and they had to cover up with a very convincing lie.
From then, whenever I was embarrassed, scared or essentially in a situation where I wanted to disappear. I did. Literally. It wasn’t entirely effective though as even though my body tuned invisible, the clothes I was wearing didn’t. I spent the majority of my preteen years of being a walking hoodie and jeans with no head or hands protruding from the gaps. For my 13th birthday Bruce and I got to work on a suit which responds to the activity of my skin cells, when I was invisible, my suit was invisible. It made it a lot more effective for me to actually be invisible when I turned but it also meant my dad let me start training to become an Avenger.
Training was fun, I worked with Nat a lot in our gym in order to become an efficient fighter. ‘Just because people couldn’t see me, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t know how to serve a mean right hook’ she always said. I also spent a lot of time with Wanda, trying to manage my powers. Now I am able to actually turn invisible and visible again on demand. And it only takes extreme embarrassment now to turn me invisible against my will, which is great because mum and dad finally let me, after my years of begging, attend Midtown High and stop being home school. This is where I met Peter last year and now I’m at Columbia studying genetics and engineering. A double major, I know but when you’re around the top geniuses in the world everyday, there is no such thing as too much learning.
“So, I guess we’re the only Midtown Alumni to have these crazy powers huh?” Peter finishes. After a long ramble about his becoming a superhero story. I guess he wanted to ease the tension after I couldn’t really think of what to say after “that’s super cool”. It wasn’t like I wasn’t interested, I really was, but when I wanted to have another person my age to hang out with, I didn’t expect it to be the boy I spent my senior year of high school obsessing over. I had turned shy, like really shy, like my normal levels of shy times 50. I couldn’t think of what to say.
“Sorry, if that story was too long and boring, I’ve only gotten to tell it to one person before, my best friend Ned so I was kind of excited to be able to tell it again.”
“No, it wasn’t boring, it was genuinely really cool!” I say a little too loudly and enthusiastically. I cringe at my tone of voice and speak normally again as I continue “It’s just I didn’t really expect the new Avengers recruit to be you, you know, like someone I know. It’s just kind of weird, but nice? I don’t know, now I’m rambling”
Peter chuckles.
“Umm, so are you going to be staying with us whilst you train or are you going back to Queens?” I ask, hoping this new question will miraculously erase Peter’s memory of what I last said.
“A bit of both, my Aunt is back in queens and I don’t want to leave her completely alone, but this upstate facility is a little too far for an everyday commute. I’m here just for today but once I start training on Monday, I think I might stay for the whole week.”
“Well, I can give you the tour! Since you’ll be staying with us soon, I guess you’ll want to know where everything is!” I say whilst jumping of my bar stool and putting my half full smoothie cup in the fridge. I noticed peter has just finished his, so I grab the glass and put it in the dishwasher for him. He thanks me as I do so.
“So this is the kitchen, where we make our food, different from the kitchen where the chefs make our food for occasions, charity events blah blah blah. And also, this seating area here is kind of the main seating area where we’ll sit throughout the day. Lots of sofas because there are lots of us and this is Bucky’s armchair. Don’t ever sit in Bucky’s armchair.” I say, stopping behind the chair and resting my hand on the headrest.
“Bucky, scary guy with the metal arm right?” Peter questions whilst following me at a slight distance around the room as I show him around. I nod. “Yeah, don’t worry, I won’t be sitting in his chair” he laughs.
I continue to show him the rest of the complex, the gym, the labs and finish up on the floor with all our rooms.
“I’m not sure which one of these rooms will be yours because we have a couple spare ones, but they all have the same layout. Look I’ll show you mine” I walk into my room, then hold the door open for Peter so he can follow me in.
“Uh, so this is my room. Obviously, yours won’t be decorated like mine but It’ll be the same size and have an en-suite attached with a full shower and tub and stuff. You know, the basics” I say, whilst sitting on the edge of my bed.
“I like your room, it’s cosy” he adds whilst looking around and then heading for the bookshelf as soon as he spots it.
“Ah thanks, I mean it’s cool, bigger than when we were in the tower in the city so I can’t complain” I say whilst also looking around. What is it about someone else being in your room that makes you see it with fresh eyes and make you super self-conscious that there is going to be a rogue piece of underwear on the floor? Even though I know I tidied my room this morning.
“Holy crap, Vision you scared the life out of me” I say on an exhale whilst holding my hand to my chest after the large gasp I just made as he enters the room, through the wall.
“Sorry, but your door is open” He continues, “Mr. Stark has told me that your car is here to take you back home Mr. Parker. If you would just follow me, I can lead you there” Vision continues, as if him just floating through my bedroom wall and speaking to the boy from my chemistry class now turned superhero was a normal thing to happen on a Thursday evening.
“Oh… thanks Vision” Peter says with some hesitancy, you can see that this is a weird circumstance for him too. “Well, I’ll see you on Monday then” he says smiling at me and walking towards the door. Which vision doesn’t use to exit.
“Yeah, see you then” I smile as he closes the door and I’m left in my room listening to him shuffling down the corridor.
Do you have any favorite conspiracy theories surrounding the bats?
G: Since I’m not as passionate about the Bats in the same way W is, I mostly stick to their history in and impact on Gotham more than the theories and more fandom-y side of the community. However, I do strongly believe at least a few of them aren’t fully human. My front runners for that theory are Black Bat II, Batman, Red Hood, and Orphan. There’s just something funky going on w/ those guys. Anyways I’ll turn it over to W now for whatever she has in mind.
W: Oh boy anon :-)
Here’s a whole post we’ve made about Batman theories, and now it’s time to get into some others.
1. There have been/are multiple Batmen
Think about it. Being Batman is a tiring and complicated job, he gets beat up a ton, much more than most people could probably take. Not to mention descriptions of his personality, voice, abilities, etc. vary wildly from person to person. Makes you think. Is it multiple people alternating wearing the suit over months or years? Is it really just one crazy powerful or supernatural guy? No one fuckin knows bro!
2. The Red Hood is some kind of ghost or zombie
There are soooo many reports of strange encounters with Red Hood. People describe everything from feeling like they’re being watched to getting a strange cold sensation when they catch sight of him. I’ve had that experience once, when I saw him while walking home. By all accounts he carries this weird air of oddness with him, something unsettling and supernatural. He still acts pretty human in fights and when he talks to civilians according to most reports, but no one can remember what his voice sounds like. At all. We love a spooky bitch guys, but damn that bro creepy.
3. They’re all vampires
I mean. A classic. From the Bat theme to reports of members reportedly being supernatural or withstanding lethal wounds to Bat sightings in the day being extremely rare, there’s really a lot you can speculate on. Also there are a few pictures floating around the internet from like... idk some time a few years ago that actually look like a vampire Batman, but it might just be photoshop.
4. New developments and theories in the hero relationship world
Over the past couple of weeks there have been reports of some new or changed hero relationships. I guess the capes are jumping on the Wayne trend of breakups! The only stuff I’ve really been able to find so far is that Spoiler/RR couple sightings have declined recently, and that a few weeks ago when there was that company explosion over in San Fran there were also some shaky videos that have lead people to believe RR might be with Superboy, Impulse, or both now. We aren’t really sure! But I hope all parties involved are happy with where they are. There have also been more scattered sightings indicating a possible new relationship for Mr. Batman himself, but the parties involved can’t be identified in the video.
5. Secret Batfamily leader/puppet master?
This is a favorite of mine. It stems off the fact that when the Bats are caught talking a lot in battle, it never seems to be to each other. People have picked out a few names that don’t match up with the vigilante’s aliases, including A, O (thought to be Orphan by some though people talked about this mystery person before that name change, making that unlikely), and finally Oracle (who many people have tied to the aforementioned ‘O’). Is there someone behind the scenes organizing the Bats? A leader who isn’t Batman? The theories on who this is range from the second Robin and first Batgirl all the way to Bruce Wayne. I love this theory, and though I don’t have a stake in this mystery person’s identity I do think they exist. I don’t see too many people talking about this one though which is insane! There might be another Bat right under our noses guys!!
6. Spoiler=resurrected from dead or relative of previous Spoiler
I’ve talked abt this one before but I was too lazy to find the post. Basically, there’s a swirl of theories around the blonde haired vigilante(s) that have been seen in Gotham. Some theorists think they’re all the same person, from the first Spoiler to that female Robin to the blonde Batgirl to the current Spoiler, but some people think there’s more to it. It’s pretty well known that something bad happened to the female Robin. There was all that gang shit and violence and then there are civilian reports of seeing Batman at a free clinic in the Narrows, etc. etc. Personally, I agree with the people that think she died, which is pretty widely accepted as fact. From there though things get muddy. Some people think that girl was resurrected somehow (it happens man who knows) and went on to be Batgirl and Spoiler, others think she didn’t die but you end up the same way. People who think she wasn’t resurrected point to the similarities in hair and build of the following heroes as a possible genetic connection, citing sisters, twins, even parents or children depending on the age people slot the original Spoiler at. Personally I kind of like the sister theory, but imagining the original Spoiler is still kicking is a happier concept. I’m not really sure on this one but it’s a deep rabbit hole for sure.
7. The Signal is a meta
This ones almost not a theory, just based on the amount of overheard conversations and firsthand accounts. People aren’t quite sure what his powers are, but I’ve found stuff on shadow manipulation, possible precog stuff (though might just be Bat training), and other mixed abilities. This is one of my favorites just because I already thought Signal was cool, but when the news of him being a possible meta started spreading I know a lot of meta kids in Gotham found a new role model! You don’t have to be a supervillain if you have powers in Gotham, you can be a hero too!
Anyways I have more but those are a couple off the top of my head and this is long enough. Let me know your guys’ thoughts on any of these, or if you have any theories yourself. I’d love to talk to some other Batfans!
Audacity Ch 4
First Previous
The room was silent for a moment before Jason erupted with laughter, falling over and landing on the floor. Marinette didn’t spare him a second glance as Damian retrieved the ring.
“No offence Pixie Pop, but you’re not exactly terrifying as is. Also how exactly is a ring supposed to help ‘rip him a new asshole’ as you put it?” Jason asked, composing himself as Damian tossed the ring to her. she slipped the ring on and closed her eyes before the flash of light blinded her.
“Hey pigtails.” A nasally voice spoke sheepishly.
“Hello Plagg.” She replied softly, holding out her hand for him to land on. The mutters from the boys were quite funny to hear, but her focus was on reassuring Plagg. “It’s not your fault Adrien betrayed us.”
“He was my kitten, bug. I should’ve known something was going on when he started to clam up with me.” Plagg cried, lowering himself into her hand. His words became unrecognizable as he blubbered about Adrien’s failings.
“What the fuck is that?”
“He is what is going to help me with Adrien. The miraculous are magic, and they’re powered by kwamis. Plagg here is the kwami of destruction and bad luck. Adrien originally held the ring, before he, you know, recreated the timeline.” She answered.
“Plagg, what say you? Are you up for a little revenge?” Marinette grinned. It was feral and unsettling which caused the boys to take a step back. Plagg, grinned back just as feral; the boys, with a silent look, decided that messing with Marinette was bound to get you maimed.
“Hold up, this thing—” Jason started.
“He’s a kwami.” Marinette said, cutting him off as Plagg hissed in his direction.
“My bad, the kwami can help you how? Also how exactly did Adrien rewrite the universe?” He continued.
“When used properly and depending on which miraculous are combined they can manipulate time, emotions, and bend the fabric of reality. Plagg here can help me transform when I say a particular phrase.” She explained, the grin still in place.
“A phrase? Can you demonstrate?” Dick asked, his family nodded their heads in agreement. Their curiosity peaked; magic was always an interesting thing to see.
“Close your eyes, when transforming the miraculous gives out the same light as when it’s been activated, similar to the one you all saw before.” Marinette gave confirmation and gestured for them to move back. After they all had taken a step back, she spoke. “Plagg, transform me!”
The flash of light was over and when she looked down at the suit, she saw how different it was from the first time she wore it. Her chest was more armored, and the gloves were weighted around the knuckles, and when she flexed her fingers the claws came out. She had actual boots this time! They were steel toed with metatarsal guards; they were heavier. The damage she could deal was eliciting a small squeal from her. Which had caused the others to open their eyes.
“Oh shit. Did she get a pair SAP gloves?”
Glancing at each of their faces was interesting, Tim and Dick were shocked. They had a little fear in their eyes as well. Jason was smiling, except he wasn’t looking at her; his eyes were trained on Damian. His mouth hung low and his eyes, which had been relieved of the mask, were wide like she had personally spun the universe.
“Close your mouth Demon Spawn, you’re going to catch flies.” Jason teased. Damian broke out of his stupor to glare at him as the other brothers started cackling. “You know, we didn’t think that Bruce’s taste in women was genetic, but this proves that theory wrong. Turns out you like dangerous women just as much as he does.”
“Todd, I swear to god—”
“Alright boys that’s enough. Jason stop teasing Damian. Marinette, what exactly is your plan to get the earrings back?” Bruce cut in, interrupting the argument that was bound to end up in a fight. Though the teasing was mildly amusing.
“Adrien is unhinged at the moment. He’s going to want the ring back, but he’s also going to want to show me that he’s my knight. I’m bait.” Marinette explained.
“Is that wise to put yourself and the miraculous in a vicinity so close to him?”
“Probably not, but I know I’m not letting him get away with what he did. He’s obsessed with me and that’s a weakness I can exploit, which means I’ve got a higher chance of winning. His desperation won’t win him any favors.”
*~*~*~*
The plan had been simple, Marinette was to take to the rooftops in order to lure Adrien out. Paris hadn’t seen the heroes since the timeline was rewritten and seeing a girl running around on the roofs of Paris was bound to gain some eyes. Especially since she was laughing as she did so. She had been out for an hour at most before Adrien had made his appearance.
“Ah, there you are milady.”
“Tsk, not your lady. You know that.”
“You will be when I get that ring. Give it back.” He growled, lunging for her. A wild look in his eyes as he did so. She ducked under his arms, kicking him in the back of the knees as she did so. He fell to the ground in a daze.
“Aw are things not going your way,” She taunted. “Is someone getting a little hissy? Catch me if you can.” She took off. The next step of the plan was to have Adrien follow her, which wouldn’t be hard if the desperate look in his eyes was any indication.
She knew the rooftops well. As did he, but the head start she had put her well out of reach. Not enough that he couldn’t spot her silhouette though. Hearing the yo-yo behind her swing out she changed her direction and slid down the angled roof. Her plan was off to a great start and it was simple, she was the bait, and Damian and his family were the babysitters so to speak. Not for her but for when she took the earrings from Adrien.
Adrien followed her through Paris, he had almost grabbed her by the ankle. Only deterred by her extending the baton and slamming it onto his hand.
*~*~*~*
She landed in the area she chose. It was abandoned, an empty factory. A place worthy for a final showdown she mused. She stood tall and stared up at Adrien.
He tackled her as he descended, knocking her to the ground. A little out of breath she twisted in his hold, rearing her back into his. Effectively headbutting him in the face and knocking him loose, off of her. Standing she punched him, hitting him in the stomach and hearing an exhale of air. He inhaled quickly while she snatched the yo-yo from his waist, stretching his legs out her knocked hers out from under her.
She quickly caught herself, he knocked her down again just as she stood back on two feet. She grabbed the baton from the square of her back and extended it into him, throwing him away from her. She retracted the baton before he could get a chance to grab it. Flinging the yo-yo in the air she pulled herself onto a beam above him. She threw the yo-yo again, this time at him, lassoing it around his feet pulling them out from under him. She pulled him up into the air, using the beam as a pulley and jumped down to face him.
“It’s over Adrien.” She said staring him in the eyes. He was glaring at her and swinging his body towards hers.
“It’s not over until I get that ring.” He snarled. “I told you. You are mine and that’s not changing.”
“It is.” She sighed. Taking the baton in her other hand, she hit him across the face with it knocking him out. Letting the yo-yo slip out of her hand she let his limp body hit the ground. The yo-yo dematerialized as she removed the earrings from his ears.
A memory resurfaced as she de-transformed and Plagg landed on her head. If my mother had never slipped into that coma then my father never would have become Papillion. Curses had begun to spill from her lips as she paced in front of Adrien’s unconscious form. There was a low whistle from her left, turning she saw Damian and his family.
“Damn it, he still has another two miraculous.” She said, slipping the earrings onto her earlobes. Tikki had materialized in front of her and flew directly into her cheek. Cupping the kwami in her hands, she let her cry her relief at being freed from Adrien.
“What do mean another two?”
“The miracle box has a variety of miraculous in it, but Fu, the guardian, lost two when he fled from the temple in Tibet, the butterfly and the peacock miraculous.” She explained while rifling through Adrien’s pockets finding nothing. “Gabriel never would have become Papillion if Emilie hadn’t slipped into a coma in the previous timeline. Papillion had an ally called Mayura, who now that I think about it, I’m sure is Nathalie Sancoeur. That never happened here, so that means Adrien either has the two missing miraculous or Fu does. Hand me some zip-ties. I don’t want Adrien to do anything stupid when he wakes up.”
Tim handed her a pair, setting Adrien’s arms behind his back she zip-tied his wrists as tightly as she could. Snagging another from Damian she did his ankles next, she was still pissed at him after all.
Bio!Dad Bruce Wayne AU - Super Meet
Initial idea | How it Happened | Addition by iggy-of-fans | Reply to iggy’s Addition | Summer Begins | Summer Part 2 | Supers Meet (you are here) | Scarecrow Interlude |
SO we have two ways that the Parisian Super Squad meets the Batfam.
The first, which I’m only writing down because I cannot forget about it, and its hilarious is: the Super Squad gets to Gotham, gets Mari’s texts, gets to their hotel room, throws their stuff in, transforms, and starts running around looking for her. They find her walking around the fashion district with the Wayne’s. Adrien, as Chat Noir, spies Marinette first. And, in typical fashion, acts first and thinks later.
So basically the Wayne’s watch a young, blonde, male version of catwoman throw an incredibly expandable baton between them and Mari, jump down, pick her up. Say “Bonjour. Au revoir.” And then make his expandable baton extend again and carry the now screeching Marinette to the top of the building where the rest of the Super Squad is waiting. Luka is going to strangle him. Holy shit. Chat Noir? More like Chat NO-ir!
The Batfam, of course, suits up and starts chasing after them. In full daylight. (These are the perfect opportunity for “Only in Gotham tweets” tbh) They catch up to Marinette berating all of them in incredibly loud and frantic French. As Multimouse. Going on about how irresponsible it was to leave Paris unprotected! Yes she knows Hawkmoth was defeated but it is the principle of the matter!! And they left BEFORE she told them about what happened with her bio!family and Batman! ALSO THEY KIDNAPPED HER IN BROAD ASS FUCKING DAYLIGHT IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THIS IS GOTHAM YOU SHUT YOUR TRAP CHAT!
The whole squad looks so defeated but then Mari starts crying and throws herself into Chat’s arms going on about how good it is to see them and she’s so happy they’re here and they’re so so stupid! And then its a hug pile. Big hug pile. The Batfam looks on in utter confusion bc, again, only like. Two of them know French. Then Batman coughs and they all look up and just. Don’t move. Maybe if they don’t move he won’t see them.
“... I need to be taking Miss Dupain-Cheng back to her family, now.”
“But-!” WHACK (why yes that’s the sound of Marinette kicking at them all)
“You kidnapped a girl in front of her family with no warning, in a very dangerous city. I’m sure her family would like the reassurance that she’s safe.”
So Batman and the Robins take Marinette back to Wayne Manor and Alfred clings to her (like he totally didn’t put everything together already they’re all so obvious). And then the Batfam, minus costume, comes barreling down the stairs and they all tackle Marinette and its another hug pile. Bc holy shit Mari why did you get kidnapped by your so called friends? Oh, they’re stupid? Can relate.
And then. Of course. Guess who shows up at the door. Just peeks their heads in, detransformed of course. “Uh, hi? We’re friends of Marinette? We’re here to visit her?”
Bruce is shrieking like WHY. WHY IS THIS SHIT GENETIC?! Internally. Can’t spill the beans QUITE yet.
Anyway, INTRODUCTIONS GALOR, YADA YADA, Dick and Adrien get along so well. Too well. Kagami and Damien also get along well too (they’re both ready to stab a bitch, don’t test them). Luka is too chill NOT to get along with anyone, unless they insult his friends and partners. Chloe is ready to throw down but also holy shit that’s Bruce fucking Wayne? Damn, Mari. DAMN. Already on social media about this.
(Also listen, I am shipping trash so I’m going to be vague as hell with things but in my brain this will be a poly!partners au so the Super Squad is just dating each other. But for the sake of everyone they could also just be really good/close friends, as they’ll be sharing rooms and be very touchy feeling and such. Its up to you. But just know, I’m just. Like this.)
So it basically just devolves into story sharing and puppy piles and the Wayne’s all looking at the Super Squad with side eyes bc HM. HOW FAMILY. ALSO STOP TOUCHING THE BABY! NO CORRUPTING THE BABY!! THAT’S OURS!!!
WE SAW HER FIRST SO FUCK YOU!
I’M LITERALLY? HER FATHER? FUCK? YOU? YOU CATWOMAN KNOCK OFF???
This is all happening with their eyes btw
And of course. The whole squad follows Marinette out as Multimouse to go meet batman, who Bruce told her had something to talk with her about. And she kinda cries bc SHE’S GOING TO GET KICKED OUT OF THE CITY BC OF HER IDIOTS!
Its not, its the Batfam taking the Super Squad to the Justice League tower. They weren’t expecting so many people but its fine. They’ll make it work.
Because Bruce had called the Justice League for an emergency meeting that night with the tone of voice that clearly said anybody who didn’t show up would have a bat hunting them down and shoving his foot up their ass so far they’ll taste patented leather for the rest of their life. They’ve almost never seen him so angry? And he’s bringing guests? What? The fuck??
Multimouse Marinette gets briefed that, as the current Guardian of the Miraculous, and a hero of Paris, she’ll be there to get a formal apology and an explanation about why a bunch of teenagers had to fight an emotionally manipulative super villain by themselves. Chat Noir is maybe hiding behind the rest of the Miraculous Crew and they’re only kinda notice but don’t think much of it tbh. Adrien does NOT want to be the one to explain that his FATHER was said super villain. save him.
Btw the whole group is having mixed reactions to the idea of meeting the Justice League. Adrien wants to run away but he also doesn’t care? Like. They’re all superhero’s, he gets that they can’t always help, but also. Fuck. He loves being a superhero but having someone with actual experience might have saved them all a lot of heartache. Chloe, meanwhile, doesn’t give a sINGLE SHIT about the JL. Fuck them. Fuck them so hard, so assholes ignored them and they’re going to be high and mighty. She may be a better person now but she will not put up with their nonsense. Not now. Not ever. Fight her. Luka is that sort of calm angry? He’s pissed that they brushed them off but since everything’s over there’s no point in holding onto his anger. There may or may not be a lot of meditating in the Bat Plane on the way there so he doesn’t use his lyre like a fucking BOOMERANG AGAIN and smack them all upside the head with it. Kagami doesn’t care? She’ll threaten them to the ends of the earth should they ever blow off such messages again, but she also just. Has very little emotional investment in them otherwise.
Marinette, of course, is freaking out and pacing and trying to channel her inner ladybug and screaming internally bc why. WHY. She’s angry but she also understands, but she’s still so stressed. just. please. Tiny squeaks.
And okay, they get there, and Batman comes in with ALL the Robins AND all these new kids?
Flash: I’m sorry, you called an emergency meeting because of your extended family?
Diana: HUSH
Because Diana, of course, recognizes them what and who they are. And is screaming bc holy shit? The Miraculous Holders are active again? Do they need their help? Where is Ladybug? Who is the Guardian? She just has. so. many. questions.
And Captain Marvel/Shazam (seriously wtf IS HIS NAME) is fangirling HARD. Because that’s the Miraculous Holders! The ORIGINAL magic users! SEVERAL of his people (Hercules/etc) were Miraculous holders on top of Shazam and HOOOLLLY SHIT THEY’RE HERE! IN FRONT OF HIM! HOLY SHIT!!!
Superman, Green Arrow, and several others are sweating bc uh. UH. OH SHIT THOSE MESSAGES WERE REAL?
Yes. They were real. And now they have Batman in full dad mode demanding an explanation. Several people (Superman, other mutation/alien esc powers) claim they went to Paris to check on the damage but they couldn’t find any, OR the supposed supers of villain.
Multimouse steps forward and starts explains how the Ladybug powers work and if they had bothered to contact them beyond telling them this wasn’t a line of communication to be used for PRANKS, they would know better. Diana chimes in with how she was helped created BY the Ladybug miraculous, etc, why did nobody ask her about this? Hell, why did nobody ask their resident magic user, Captain Marvel/Shazam???
Green Lantern: No offense, but doesn’t this all seem a little far fetched?
Chloe: ... Bitch, you have an alien ring that gives you powers. Shut the fuck up.
So there’s some arguing, back and forth, and Bruce looses his temper a little bit. Smacks his hand HARD on the table. “Enough. It is your job to investigate. It is not your job to leave the saving of an entire city to my fucking daughter, who was barely thirteen at the time this all started. As far as I’m concerned, this can never, ever, happen again. Wonder Woman, Captain, I assume you’d be willing to go through our notifications for any discrepancies?”
And there’s a huge moment of silence. Everyone’s staring at him. Multimouse squeaks. Red Hood just. “Good going, Bats. Real smooth.”
Chat: OH MY GOD YOUR DAD IS BATMAN? WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY ANYTHING, WHY- HOOOOO OH MY GOD YOUR DAD! BATMAN! IS DAD! YOUR DAD WHO IS ALSO-!
Viperion is making wheezing noises and covers Chat’s mouth and then there’s even more yelling and arguing and finger pointing, and Bruce wants a drink. And a nap. In whatever order he can get them.
Basically he gets Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel/Shazam to agree to looking through messages but also gets the hell out of dodge.
Next in, the reactions to all this tomfoolery. Also apparently superhero-ism is now genetic.
Movies I watched in February
fyi, I have zero knowledge on how to professionally rate or review a movie. I am not gonna pay attention to every little detail. these rating are simply based on how much I enjoyed/liked the movie
Follow me
Unhinged
In Time
Avengers Age of Ultron
Songbird
Star Trek
Step up all in
Project Almanac
Ant Man
Space Sweepers
Christiane F.
Jurassic World
Jurassic World the fallen kingdom
1. follow me
A social media personality travels with his friends to Moskow to capture new content for his successful vlog. Always pushing the limits and catering to a growing audience, they enter a cold world of mystery, excess, and danger.
starring: Keegan Allen, Holland Roden, Denzel Whitaker, Ronen Rubenstein, Pasha D. Lchnikoff
the end was very predictable and i pretty much already knew halfway through the movie what was gonna happen. but it still was quite thrilling and I did enjoy watching it
6.5/10
2. unhinged
After a confrontation with an unstable man at an intersection, a woman becomes becomes the target of his rage.
starring: Russel Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Batemen
hm idk, I didn’t really like it, my sister didn’t really like it but my mom did, I think. it just seemed so, no overdramatic but just too much in a way
3/10
3. in time
In a future where people stop aging after 25 and need to buy time to live, the rich become immortal while others cease to exist. So, Will is on the run with a hostage in a desperate bid to survive.
starring: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer
yes, such a good movie. Ireally like the concept. can recommend
7/10
4. avengers age of ultron
When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it’s up to Earth’s mightiest heroes to stop the villanious Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.
starring: Robert Downy Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johanson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany
hell yes, one of my favourite marvel movies. Wanda and Pietro.. Hawkeye.. all the little jokes throughout the entire movie and of course the scene where everyone tries to lift thor’s hammer, what’s not to love about this movie
10/10
5. songbird
In 2024 a pandemic ravages the world and it’s cities. Centering a handful of people as they naviagete the obstacles currently hindering society: disease, marital law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
starring: K.J. Apa, Sofia Carson, Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stromare, Alexandra Daddario, Craig Robinson
I really enjoyed watching this. yeah sure, the ending was obvious but I was still glued to the screen. I also felt super weird watching this, kinda surreal because we are basically living a more harmless version of this rn. I really liked seeing sofia carson in such a movie, I’ve only seen her in the descendants so this was a bit of a change haha. I’m not that big of a fan of kj but he was great as well and i really loved his characters style.
7/10
6. star trek
The brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father’s legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.
starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Carl Urban, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Zaldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin
I put it on because I wanted to have some background noise while playing sims but I ended up playing like 20 minutes and then just watching the movie haha I forgot how good it was, and the others as well, aaand I totally forgot carl urban was in it, so that was a little surprise. anyways, can recommend watching them if you’re into sci-fi action movies but at the same time, if you’re into that I’m pretty sure you’ve already watched them.
7.5/10
bonus: I also watched star trek beyond the other day but this time I was barely paying attention so I can't really say too much, but it's also quite good👍🏻
7. step up all in
All-stars from the previous Step up installments come together in glittering Las Vegas, battling for a victory that could define their dreams and their careers.
starring: Ryan Guzman, Briana Evigan, Adam Sevani, Misha Gabriel Hamilton, Sephen Stevo Jones, David Schreibman, Mari Koda, Alyson Stoner, Izabella Miko
definetly one of my favourite dance movies. highly recommend it!! I’d like it more without the romancde but it’s fine, I guess, I can live with it haha and the last performance... wow just wow that’s all I can say to that. y’all go watch it
9/10
8. project almanac
A group of teens discover secret plans of a time machine, and construct one. However, things start to get out of control.
starring: Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Virginia Gardner
okay... I did enjoy watching it! the beginning was a little slow imo but then it just got more and more intense which was kinda nice. god, at some point the main guy kept making the wrong decisions and that was very frustrating to watch. the ending was alright, spoiler ahead (I guess) I would have liked the ending more if it was the exact same as the beginning, meaning that the movie is just one big time loop and the events from the movie were about to repeat themselves. but that's just my opinion🤷🏻♀️
6.5/10
9. ant man
Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his Mentor Dr. Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, David Dastmalchian, T.I.
another one of my favorite mcu movies. it's just fun and easy and doesn't have a lot of pain in it. the giant ant it's my favorite part haha I want it as a pet
9/10
10. space sweepers
Set in the year 2092 and follows the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory. When they discover a humanoid robot named Dorothy that's known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal.
starring: Song Joong-Kim, Kim Tae-ri, Seon-kyu Jin, Hyang-gi Kim, Richard Armitage, Ye-Rin Park
I really loved this movie. I cried like 6 times haha, which came unexpected. (or maybe it's because I'm suppose to get my period any day now) I did not think I was going to enjoy this movie as much as I did, at all. it was fun, it was exciting, it was sad (even my dad said that) the plot was good, the visual effects were amazing, it did feel like I was watching this movie for like 5 hours but not in a bad way and I am now kinda emotionally attached to the characters haha (I might do a rewatch). another thing I really liked was the language/synchronization. in the original version they speak mostly korean and english but also some other languages and it's the same in the synchronizations. the dialogue of the main characters is in the language you pick but every other character (I guess) is a different language and I absolutely love that. I highly recommend watching this!!
also, its was super weird seeing Richard Armitage not as a dwarf hahaha
10/10
11. christiane f.
A teen girl in 1970's Berlin becomes addicted to heroin. Everything in her life slowly begins to distort and disappear as she befriends a small crew of junkies and falls in love with a drug-abusing male prostitute.
starring: Natja Brunckhorst, Thomas Haustein, Jens Kuphal, Christiane Reichelt
I binged the series the other day and after the last episode this movie was in the "watch next" thingy idk and I thought "well, why not" and watched it. good movie, definitely!! I really liked that they didn't show the highs of doing heroin but focused on the negative effects it has on someone and what it's doing to your body. it is a super realistic but very very dark movie. the actors were all about 15/16 years old and looked very young which was a good and kinda disturbing thing because christiane and her friend were like 13/14 when that all happened and it made you realise that there were kids doing all that stuff
9/10
12. jurrasic world
A new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D'Onofrio
13. jurassic world fallen kingdom
When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon
I am tired and don't really want to say all that much other than both of them are very good and I do like them. good action/adventure movies. can definitely recommend them. I definitely like the first one more because it feels like (just a little bit) that the main story in the second one is the same as in the first one, someone creates a new dinosaur species to make more money and something goes terribly wrong along the way. but it's still entertaining!
jurassic wolrd: 7.5/10
jurassic world fallen kingdom: 7/10
Lovesick (Wanda Maximoff x Sick!Reader)
Pairing: Wanda x Reader
Type: One-Shot; Fluff!
Warnings: sickness? it’s not, like, a bad sickness.
Word Count: 1261
Description: You’re sick. And your almost-maybe-quite nearly girlfriend wants to help however she can.
Song Recommendation: Honey, Make Me Healthy by Flannel Graph
(gif by @lzzieolsn)
(A/N: This is the first piece I’ve published online in a while, so... I hope you enjoy! Likes are appreciated, as are further requests. Thank you and enjoy!)
/|\
You had gotten a cold, simply enough. That’s what you thought. Three or so weeks ago, when the symptoms started. Now… it had gotten worse.
Turns out, you had picked up some proto-virus when investigating an underground genetic development group operating just outside Sacramento, California. Twelve genetic engineers had been paid $500,000 each to make a new disease and a cure/vaccine for it. Some big pharmaceutical company was trying to manufacture more demand.
Sadly, they had gotten one thing right: they had made the virus. Some chemist Stark had hired from the FBI managed to make a vaccine pretty easily. And you, being the first one in the room and the only one directly exposed to the disease, got to experience it firsthand.
Initial symptoms: difficulty sleeping, congestion, body aches, exhaustion, drowsiness, vertigo. And every day, more symptoms piled on. After one week, a fever. After two weeks, there was a short bout of vomiting, though that was thankfully over in just a day or so. Now you were on day three of cramping.
The only good thing about today: people were cleared to see you without quarantine suits.
The first person to come in was Bruce, who had come in several times before, but this time with just a simple mask on.
“Well, I have some good news: I think the vaccines work.”
The second person to come in was Steve.
“Hey. The team misses you.”
Of course they did. Who wouldn’t?
But you didn’t care so much about the other Avengers. There was one who you hadn’t really had a chance to speak to since you had gotten sick, save for the occasional video call: your maybe-almost-eventually-unofficial girlfriend, Wanda. Not girlfriend. Not yet, at least. But you’d been on two dates (and they were… honestly two of the best that you’ve ever been on). And you were friends before that. So, naturally, it was going to happen. The only question was… when? And the answer: whenever it felt right. And it did.
But, god, who has the confidence to ask someone something like that? How were you even supposed to do that? ‘Hey, I really like you, I think we should make this official’? ‘I love being around you, you light up my day, be my girlfriend’? ‘I have this fantasy, you and me, a tabby cat named Ginny, an apartment in Brooklyn, us sitting by the fire, your head on my lap, a record playing as you tell me about your day and I tell you about this song… did you know that he wrote a part of the Blue World soundtrack, and you say no, and I tell you that the flute part is kind of similar, and I call him lazy and you laugh at it and when the fire dies down, I carry you to bed and you lay your head on my chest and I ask don’t you have your own pillow? And you ask me what else I would be there for, and then you doze off and I follow close behind and we fall in love with each other even more every second that passes. Maybe we could make that happen?’
Maybe that last one is a bit much.
Naturally, she was the third person they let in. She had a mask on, but she plopped in a seat right next to you. You slowly sit up and wince slightly.
“Hey…” you started, a little awkwardly. Maybe you were just hopeful, but she seemed like she was genuinely glad to see you.
“Hi,” she replied, a little more surely. “It’s been a long couple weeks…”
She took your hand and it made your breath hitch. People only really touched you when they were doing check-ups. It was sort of surprising to have her hold your hand, but… nevertheless, you intertwined your fingers with hers.
You just hoped your hands weren’t too sweaty from the fever.
“Yeah… I know. Believe me, I know…”
Wanda just tucked her hair behind her ear, “Yeah… I just wish I could help.”
“I just wish I could sleep in my own bed…”
Over that, you both shared a humorless laugh. She bit her lip and kept gzaing at you, “I mean… I can talk to Bruce. See if it’s possible to move you to your room…”
You smiled to yourself, “I mean… I’d like that.”
Almost as much as you’d like to move to her room.
“Then I’ll ask…” she bit her lip again and looked up slightly, though she didn’t get up yet. “I… I have the vaccine. So I can stay around for a while here with you, if you want. Just to give you company until you’ve got clearance to leave.”
\|/
“And then it’s the same thing?”
“And then it’s the same thing! I’m telling you, the flutes sound exactly the same, you can’t tell me otherwise!” you were on your feet now, thankfully, but it tuckered you out quick. Honestly, though, you didn’t care. You were impassioned enough to pace around your room, while Wanda just sat on the bed and watched. “I’m just saying– Hans Zimmer, he’s fantastic, he’s wonderful, but he focuses too much on the low brass to–”
Your foot got caught on a lump in the rug. The vertigo made you not even realize you were falling until a net of red caught you and eased you to the ground. Wanda leapt from the bed and joined your side, getting on her knees.
“Hey… maybe that’s enough for now, okay? Let’s get you back into bed…”
Her tone was soft, sweet. You watched her eyebrows furrow like she was worried and you felt her cold fingers gently come to rest on your cheek. Without even realizing you did it, you leaned your head into her hand.
“Yeah… sorry, I got a bit wrapped up.”
She just chuckles, “A bit?”
“A lot…”
She stands up and gently pulls you to your feet. You very nearly fall against her, but she catches you. You place your hands gently on her chest, then move to wrap your arms around her shoulders. Her body fit so nicely against yours. Your arms fit so nicely around her neck. Her arms snake around your waist, fitting so well there. And her fingers felt so nicely there, tracing your spine… had you let your guard down, you might have melted into her. The fever was raging enough to do it for you.
But she slowly pulls you back to the bed, laughing softly. She gently sits you down and rests by you, one arm propped up on the other side of you. You try to say something, but you’re silenced by thinking of how nicely your lips would fit together right about now.
“Stay in bed, okay?” Wanda gently traces your temple, tucking your hair behind your ear.
“Stay with me,” you just smile at her. She just leans back slightly, laughing and rolling her eyes.
“Of course. I’ll be here until Bruce sends me a text.”
“Then what will you do?”
“I’ll go meet Bruce in the lab, get you your medicine, maybe something to eat, or some tea, and be back in ten minutes.”
A beat. You stayed there in comfortable silence, planning the perfect words to leave your mouth.
“Cut it down to nine minutes, for me?”
Well, far from perfect.
She rolls her eyes again and gently pushes your face back so your head hits the pillow. She had a strange way of making you feel better, she really did.
Chapter 1
~~ ~~
"So nothing like this has ever happened before?" You look over to Dr. Banner and sigh. This interrogation (and you refuse to call it anything else) has been going on for what felt like hours since the medic finished checking you over and bandaging you up. All you wanted to do was sleep. And possibly go home. 'Oh, sleep at home.' Your mouth waters at the thought of your bed.
"No. Like I said before, I'm normal. Not a superhero, nor a genetically enhanced human or a flippin' alien. Just human. Who does normal human things."
"Because supposedly looking through peoples eyes and talking in their head is normal?" Tony asks and you glare at him. "Look through my eyes."
"I can't."
"Why not? You spoke to Clint, said you looked through Agent Romanov's eyes during the rescue. So why not me?"
"I can't control it. I don't even know how or why it happened." You shift on the bed and try to hide the wince as the bandage pulls at the wound in your leg. "Before you all showed up, I didn't even think it was real. I thought I was hallucination or something."
"Do that often?"
"Tony." Bruce reprimands.
"Come on, looking through someones eyes, that's insane."
"And flying around in a tin suit isn't?" You quip back. Silently cheering at the small smirk that appears on Bruce's face.
"How about Clint?" You look over to the corner where Captain America has stood quietly the whole time. "I get not looking through Tony, and I can't blame you for not wanting to get into his head but you..connected with Clint before. Try again."
You sigh again. You haven't even been allowed to see him or Natasha since they dropped you off in the med lab. You frown and close your eyes thinking about Clint. You feel a tug and go towards it feeling warmth.
Your tongue slide deeper into Natasha and you open your eyes. Glancing up at her, head thrown back, fingers pinching her nipples. You slam your eyes close and pull away quickly.
"Miss Morgan?" You cross your arms over your chest; ignoring the sting from your sides. Your thighs clench and you feel you're wetness in response to Clint's feelings.
"Well, what did you see?"
You open your eyes, "Umm." You clear your throat, "Clint was..eating." You unconsciously bring your fingers to your bottom lip.
"J.A.R.V.I.S, what is Barton's current location?"
"Agent Baton is currently in his living quarters."
Tony looks at you in disbelief.
"He could be eating in there. Why don't we let her rest for a bit?" Dr. Banner is slightly red-faced and turns towards Tony.
"Well what was he eating?" Tony's not giving up.
"I..I couldn't see." You look down to your lap and silently pray your face doesn't give you away.
"Right." He drags the word out.
"I could taste it. Although, it might just be my memory? Not actually tasting?" Your voice raises at the end in confusion.
"Well, what did it-"
"Tony." Captain America stops him. Stepping up he takes a deep breath and did he just smirk at you? You're insides clench in response. Oh God! You grab the styrofoam cup and quickly take a sip, averting your eyes. "Let's let her rest for a bit."
"Fine. I still think this is crazy." He gets up from the stool he was sitting on and walks towards the door. Dr. Banner following on his heels not even saying good bye.
"Get some rest, I'm Steve by the way." He holds out his hand and you blink at it.
"Jessica." You reluctantly shake his hand. "You were there that night, right? In the club?"
"I was. I'm sorry we couldn't get to you in time." His thumb lightly runs over your hand and you pull away.
"Not your fault. I don't even know how he drugged me."
"There was another guy." You look at him confused. Natasha broke into the security footage. While you were talking to one guy, another came up on your other side and slipped something into your drink." You shake your head at your stupidity.
Unwilling a yawn breaks free and Steve steps back, "I'll let you get some rest."
You nod and close your eyes. You barely wait to hear the door close before slipping into unconsciousness.
~~
"We want to see her." It's been hours since they kicked Clint and Natasha out of the hospital room.
"She's sleeping right now."
"We can be quiet." They push past Banner and Stark and head towards the room.
"Have you eaten anything since we've been back?" Clint looks back at Stark.
"What? Why?"
"Simple question..have you eaten?"
Clint's eyes narrow but before he can say no, Banner pipes up.
"You know, like maybe an hour ago..with Natasha?" He stares at Clint, like he's trying to tell him something. Clint's eyebrows knit together. His mind flashes back to before when he felt the strange warmth.
"Yeah...why?"
Tony's eyes narrow, "What did you eat?"
"Why?" Natasha who has quietly been watching the back and forth asks.
"Because I think he's lying."
"Why would I lie?"
"You tell me."
"Me. He was going down on me." Natasha states matter of fact and reaches past Clint to open the door. Clint smirks at Tony dumbfounded look before ushering Natasha into the room and closing the door.
"You knew." Tony turns towards Banner.
"I..had a feeling." Bruce adjusts his glasses.
"How?"
"Miss Morgan. Her heart rate picked up, plus enhanced senses thanks to the big guy." Tony scoffed and started to walk away before turning back.
"She said she could taste but it may have been memory...so that means she and Romanov .." Tony stops and Bruce rolls his eyes.
"Still think she's selling state secrets to her?"
"Could be mixing business and pleasure." Tony mutters as he turns away again. Not really believing it but not ready to admit he was wrong.
Bruce shakes his head at his friend, and quietly slips into the room with Natasha and Clint. He catches Natasha wiping her eyes and he turns his head pretending not to notice. Picking up the file he turns back.
"So, we had a chance to run some tests on the residue inside the iv bag she was hooked up too. Not all the tests are complete but it looks it's the same stuff they used on Wade Wilson."
"Who?"
"Dead pool."
Clint frowns at the memory of the crazy guy who showed up at their doorstep a few months ago. He slips your hand into his, needing the physical reminder you're safe. "So she's what, a mutant?"
"Uh..I'd like to run some more tests but this has definitely changed her DNA from her old files. Physically, there is no permanent damage from what happened. She'll most likely have a scar on her leg from the stabbing but the other cuts were superficial." Natasha nods having already come to those conclusions herself.
"Is this permanent?" she gesture towards your head.
"I don't know, probably. Can I ask," Bruce fiddles with his glasses, "Earlier, did you feel her?"
"I felt a warmth then something that reminded me of her but it was gone so fast, plus uh..I was a bit distracted." Clint runs a hand through his hair.
"How'd you know?" Natasha's eyes narrow at Banner.
"I took a guess given her reactions." She blinks and nods but doesn't ask anything else. "I'll leave you be but Furry was saying something about a meeting in 45 minutes. Natasha hums an acknowledgment but doesn't respond otherwise.
"Is he gone?" You ask as the door closes.
"Yeah, Princess." Your eyes fill with tears as they meet Clint's.
He sits on the side of the bed and carefully pulls you into his arms. "I'm sorry this happened. I wish I could take it back." You curl into his chest and finally release the tears and stress that have building from the moment you were taken.
When you finally pull away you feel lighter. Wiping at your face, you smile thanks to Natasha who hands you some tissues.
"How much of what Banner said did you hear?"
"Just him asking about you..if you felt me." Your cheeks redden. Clint smirks and wiggles his eyebrows at you, "You can join me anytime baby." Rolling your eyes you swat at his arm.
"How are you feeling?" Natasha asks as the door opens. You all turn to see Fury, Steve and Banner walk in. You wipe your eyes and pull the blanket up over your shoulders.
"Good question. I was just about to ask the same thing." Fury says as he looks through the folder containing all their information on you. "Nick Fury." He adds as an after thought.
"Tired. Which is ridiculous meaning all I've done the past.." you cut of realizing you have no idea just how long you've been gone.
"Three days." You look at Natasha, "You've been gone for three days." You sit quietly at that, it feels like so much more time has passed.
Then your eyes widen, "Kelsey!" You whip your head around to look at Clint.
"I let her know you're okay when we found you. We went back in after you were taken and asked her if she saw anything. We've been checking in from time to time." He makes a face and you wince. You know what her checking in is like. "I might be changing my number soon." He says making you smile.
"So, how long have you known Barton?" You look back to the man standing at the foot of your bed.
"I've already-"
"I'm asking her. Now you can sit quietly or leave. You're choice."
You chance a glance at Clint. At his nod, you answer.
"Um..I was twelve so..twenty years? God, I didn't realize it was that long ago."
"How'd you meet?" Your shoulders slump as you realize you're about to go for round two of interrogation.
"Snuck out to a carnival, met a cute boy. He helped me get away from an abusive prick." You slip your hand into his an squeeze a silent thanks. "We've kept in touch."
"And Natasha?"
"She followed him one night when he came to visit me. My dog wouldn't quit barking. Clint when to check why and came back with her."
"What's your relationship with Agent Barton?"
Your eyes narrow, "He's my best friend. Not that it is any of your business."
"Tell me about the night you were taken." You go over everything again, stopping to answer whatever questions they had.
"Do you think you were a random attack?"
"No." Clint squeezes your hand and Natasha leans in.
"Why?"
"They mentioned them." You tilt your head towards the pair. "It sounds like they had been watching us for a while."
"Just how often do you spend time with her, Agent Barton?" Fury glowers at Clint.
He shrugs, "When I have down time, I try and visit at least twice a month but it doesn't always work out."
"And what do you discuss?"
"Nothing about the job." You interrupt before either could answer. "Sometimes I'll hear something on the news and ask them if they were there, but they never really tell me anything."
"And before yesterday, you had never been able to, what did you call it Banner..visit Barton?"
"No. Like I told them, I didn't even think it was real until they showed up."
"Can you do it now?"
"I'm not a circus act."
"And I'm not not the leader of a three ring circus." You both ignore the snort that comes from Clint.
You sigh giving in and close your eyes. The warmth is easier to find and you open your eyes turning to look at Clint."Woah." You stare at your face and quickly noticing the one blue eye. You reach up and freeze when you see your hand coming towards you.
"Barton." You both turn to see Fury heading towards the door. He opens it and tilts his head.
Clint rolls his eyes and steps out into the hallway followed by Fury who stands with his back to you in the doorway. You watch through Clint as he holds up two fingers.
'Really?'
'Just answer him so we can be done.' You blink at Clint's voice.
"Two."
Fury looks back at you trying to see if there was any way you could have seen. He steps out and closes the door. He holds up his whole hand.
"You put down the two on each side, and there's a message from me to you." You say loudly.
"Sure that's the brightest thing to say to the man who's in charge of her release?" He asks before opening the door and walking back in.
"What can I say? I was inspired by your lovely bedside manner."
"You heard me?" I roll my eyes.
"Don't do that, it's weird." Clint takes his spot back at your side.
"Sorry." You pull back from him, blinking as your vision comes back into focus.
"So you see and hear everything he does?"
"And tastes." Banner adds without thinking. Fury looks at him and he blinks, cheeks reddening. "Don't ask."
"Wasn't planning on it." Turning back to you he adds; "Well, this is a unique situation we find ourselves in. I can't just let someone who can spy on us whenever she feels like it run around free." You feel a weight settle in your stomach the same time Clint sits a bit straighter.
"I don't plan to spy on anyone."
"You said it yourself, you can't control it."
"I'll learn to. And I'll sign whatever I need to stating I won't share anything I might accidentally see."
"Oh, I already planned on that. In the meantime though, you'll be staying here and you two," he looks at Natasha and Clint, "Are officially on downtime until further notice."
Natasha's eyes narrow and you bite your lip feeling guilty. "Sir,"
He ignores you and continues, "You'll be working with Doctor Banner to learn to control your new ability. Who knows, maybe it'll come in handy."
'You gotta be shitting me if he thinks I'm letting her anywhere near the field.' Your head whips to Clint.
"Field?"
"You're not recruiting her." He says aloud.
"Last time I checked, I was the one who gave the orders around here." He stares Barton down.
Watching him tense up, you rest your hand on his back.
'Clint, stand down.'
Clint turns to you with a frown.
'I don't like this.'
'Neither do I, but now is not the time to argue.' Your eyes close and you rest your head back into the pillow. "I'm going to sleep now."
Unforeseen Chasm (Part 46)
Prompt: Two sisters fall for men that are absolute enemies. The love they have could tear all of them apart, or it could bring them together.
Word Count:6022
Warnings: Language, all warning come from the Age of ultron movie! song for this part:Life of the party-All time low Note: This is by far the longest thing I’ve ever written (including my novels). It’s a collaboration with the amazing @mrs-dragneel-stark-solo. It started as a funny “What if…?” and it evolved and got huge. This took two years to write. We are both proud and happy and we hope you enjoy it. It follows from Thor 1 to Endgame in the MCU. Some of the timelines may be off in order to fit certain people, and some characters may show up earlier or in different ways than they have in the movie. But for the most part, it follows the MCU. It also has a bit of crossover with some other Marvel characters throughout the story.
Masterlist for Unforeseen Chasm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had set out with Jane towards Nebraska, just after the wedding. Loki was a bit hesitant to let you go. You knew Jane, you knew Shannon. Earth had been your home your whole life. None of this was new to you. But Loki? All he had was you. He had no other allies.
You assured him you’d be a phone call away if he needed you. You could tell he was worried what might happen if you weren’t there. He wasn’t blind to the fact that you served as a buffer for his punishment from the Avengers and the government. It almost felt like a kid who is constantly bullied, when their friend that protects them doesn’t come to school one day.
Shannon wished you well and sent you on your way. Nebraska had yielded a few results but somehow, you’d heard about human experimentation, possibly by Shield in Sokovia. Another scientist was in the field with you, gossiping about things he’d seen near a campsite. People with strange powers and odd things that had been seen.
When you heard this, your ears perked up. You finished up early with Jane on your work and headed back to New York to inform the Avengers.
Loki was still at work so you bypassed the Sanctum and headed straight to the Tower.
Steve saw you first.
“Y/N? What’re you doing back?” he asked, concern and cautiousness in his voice.
“Yeah,” you said dismissively. “I heard that some experimentation on people going on in Sokovia,” you explained. “You might want to go check it out.”
Steve frowned and crossed his arms before leaning against the counter in the kitchen. “What makes you say that?”
“I heard it. This Dr. Reinstein I was working with in Nebraska had just come from there. He was doing research in the mountains, and there’s a compound nearby. He thought it was a government base, possibly for the military, but he said he heard and saw strange things.” You frowned, biting your lip. “I know it’s not much to go on, but I think--Well, what did you all do with Loki’s scepter?” you asked.
He leaned forward, taking more interest. “Why?”
“Because… It sounds like they might be using it,” you commented tentatively. “The things that scepter can do... “
A disgruntled sigh escaped him as he crossed his arms and leaned against the nearby table. “We gave it to SHIELD.”
“Oh,” you said, a smile forming. “Then it’s in good hands.”
“Well, not exactly. We found out a year ago they were infiltrated by Hydra.”
“Hydra? That terrorist organization from the 40s? The one you fought? I thought they died out,” you asked, flabbergasted.
“I thought they did too, but the director of SHIELD has been the leader of HYDRA for quite some time. So… I have no idea where the scepter is now or if it’s safe.”
You pressed your lips together. “I think you should check it out,” you pressed gently. “Even if I’m wrong… Even if I’ve made a mistake, at least we know. Steve, that scepter in the wrong hands… You saw what Loki and I did with it. The devastation Hydra could bring? If they could be anyone -- it could be monstrous.”
He nodded. “I hate to say it, but you’re right. Do you know where in Sokovia this was?”
“Not exactly but I can get you his information.”
“Please do,” he requested.
------------------------------------
It took a week for the Avengers to gather enough solid intel to head to Sokovia. They left Shannon behind. Tony and Bruce said her body couldn’t handle the trip and a fight. You began work with her on a new project while the team went to handle the problem. Tony had texted Shannon when they arrived.
Shortly after that, the whole team surprised you by coming back to the tower. Shannon and you were in the middle of the new project when you heard the plane entering the tower. Shannon looked at you, excitement filling her features before the two of you dropped your pencils to greet the team. Shan ran full force into Tony as he walked in from the landing pod area. You nodded to Steve, gave a smile to Bruce and Natasha. They surprisingly returned the gesture.
“Where’s Clint?” you asked, worry in your tone.
“Bringing up the rear, as usual,” Tony answered and you peered around him, seeing Clint limp in. You naturally went to help him, offering your body as support. He was hesitant for a moment, but ultimately took the offer, draping his arm over you.
“What happened?” you asked.
“Got hit. But it turns out your inside information was good,” he said, looking at you and giving you a slight smile.
“Well, I never meant for you to get hurt,” you said with guilt in your tone.
“I’m sure you didn’t,” he assured. He shot you a half a smile before you helped him into the medical lab where Dr. Cho was set up.
“So what’d you find?” Shannon asked Tony while they walked into the lab, with you in tow. Maria and Steve joined you in the room.
“Twins,” Steve stated. “Genetically enhanced. The boy is extremely fast and the girl is--”
“She can play with your mind and control objects with her mind,” Maria explained. You and Shannone exchanged a look.
“So they were experimenting on people,” Shannon mused. “Was it Hydra?”
“As a matter of fact, babe, it was,” Tony affirmed.
“Strucker is in that hands of NATO now,” Steve stated, filling everyone in on the status.
“Well, I’m going to whip up some shakes to refuel and then we’ll all meet back up here at 7 for the party right?” Tony suggested.
You bobbed your head. “I’ll take that as my queue to go,” you quietly noted, everyone but Shannon looking at you as if you were an unwanted pest.
“No, you don’t have to leave,” Shannon said in a pleading tone as she took a step towards you.
“No, it’s fine. It’s getting late anyway. I need to check in with Loki. It’s been good seeing you all. I’m glad you’re safe. Glad the lead turned out to be something,” you offered with a smile that didn’t quite meet your eyes. Boy, the term, “I know when I’m not wanted” resonated in your head like a siren.
With a final nod to everyone, you left and went back to the apartment.
“Well, hello, darling,” Loki greeted. “I had no idea you’d be home this early or I would’ve made dinner,” he informed, coming over to kiss your forehead.
“Well I was more like… kicked out,” you explained.
“What? Why--”
Before he could question it further, a knock came at the apartment door. You made an exasperated face before going over to the door. Opening the door, you were a bit shocked to see Shannon.
“Shan? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be getting ready for the victory party?” you questioned, confused.
“It’s not a party without you,” she countered with a smile.
“Oh, come on. You know that isn’t true. I’m the one in the corner, the wallflower.”
“I don’t care what you are. You’re my best friend and you and Loki are invited to the party.”
“Why? We didn’t even go on the mission. We aren’t in the Avengers. We’re in ex-criminals,” you reminded.
“Is that all you are? Ex-criminals? I kind of thought you were my best friend and friends with the Avengers. Besides Tony invited about fifty people that aren’t the team, I can have two people come.”
You smiled at her. “Shan, I appreciate it. I know what you’re trying to do, but no one wants me there. Steve tolerates me and the rest just wait for me to leave the room. They’re your friends...not mine.”
She pressed her lips together. “It’s true that they aren’t your biggest fans, but that’s never going to change if you don’t let them see you for who you are. They need to see the girl I know. The sister I grew up with…”
Your lips pulled to one side of your face. “Alright. I...” You turned back to Loki. “Do you want to go?” you asked, giving up with a sigh.
He gazed at you, probably gauging whether or not you really wanted to attend the event.
“I would...be delighted to go to a soiree at Stark Tower,” Loki lied. You could tell, but you were sure Shannon missed it.
She squealed. “Great! I’ll see you two at seven!”
She hugged you before dashing off and you closed the door behind you, grinning at Loki.
“So now we’re going to a party with the mindless drones that follow Stark?” Loki asked coldly.
You sighed as you walked past him to the bedroom. “Lok, she’s right. We need to… We need to stop acting like the outcasts. Maybe if we actually join their circle, we’ll be invited to more things. Our parole conditions might be lifted. I don’t know, maybe if we just acted less like we were being sequestered, less like hardened criminals, we wouldn’t be treated that way.”
“Somehow I doubt it,” he remarked with dripping venom. “I tried to act the part of the best, loyal, brightest son and look where that got me,” he reminded.
You sighed as you paused at your closet. “I’m not saying to pretend to be something we’re not. I’m just saying we act like we’re one of them. Just… be nice to them and they’ll be nice to us. It’s as simple as that.”
“Alright. I’ll try it your way. I suppose anything is better than being in exile.”
You nodded at him. “Dress nice or Tony won’t even let us in.”
Loki didn’t even respond as he got on an all black suit, black shirt, and black tie. Truth be told he looked ravishing. You found yourself in a green and black cocktail dress, your hair in old fashioned waves. In record time, you two made it to the party.
Shannon was right, Tony did invite a bunch of people here. It was a maze of people and caterers.
“You made it!” Shannon squealed as she trotted toward you with a drink in hand. She took you in a hug before hugging Loki, a sight you thought you’d never see.
“Yeah, much to everyone’s surprise,” you muttered.
“Well, come, come. Get a drink,” she urged.
“Alright,” you laughed, grabbing Loki’s hand as Shannon grabbed your free one. She drug you to the bar where Nat was making drinks.
“What’ll it be?” she asked with a coy smile.
“Martini,” Loki answered.
“Sparkling wine,” you requested.
“Comin’ right up,” she said with a smile as she made the drinks. Before you knew it, you each had a drink in hand, mingling. You met with Tony’s friends, greeted Clint, talked for a bit with Bruce, met some big wigs Shannong knew at another technology firm. It wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be, but nearly an hour into the party you needed a break. The high society scene - it wasn’t for you, it never was. That was Shannon’s thing. She was the one molded into the perfect socialite. This was her world, it always had been.
You escaped into an elevator and rode up one floor, where you knew it would be empty. You left Loki with Thor, hoping he would provide some form of familiarity or comfort for him.
Your feet carried you mindlessly for a moment until you wound up in Tony’s lab. It was state of the art, and hardly anything in here was real, all of it holograms. Walking around, you were appreciating all his gizmos and gadgets before you rounded the corner and saw something you never thought you’d see again.
The scepter.
Loki’s scepter.
The scepter that powered the Tesseract. The two things that got you sent back to Earth, the two things that nearly got you killed.
Merciless memories danced in your head of blood, torment, and torture. Remembering a time you desperately wanted to forget.
“Don’t get any cute ideas,” Tony said from behind you, making you jump. He sauntered up from behind you, amber drink in a scotch glass. “Is this why you came tonight? Did you want us to do the heavy lifting for you? Get the scepter, bring it back, and you and the boy toy take it back?” He cocked his head to the side. “Good play.”
“That’s not it,” you retorted, getting angry quick, your fist balling up. “I heard they might have it and I was worried it got into the wrong hands.”
“The wrong hands being anyone’s but yours,” he rebutted with an impressed look. “It was clever, I’ll give you that. You almost had me fooled. Bowing out early. Shannon insisting to invite you. You pretending like you didn't want to come tonight. All very nice touches. But then I looked up and saw you were nowhere to be found and I thought ‘Gosh, where could Y/N have gone?’”
“Tony,” you groaned. “I just needed a break from everything and I wandered up here. I had no idea you even had the scepter, no one told me.”
“I know Barton told you that the lead was solid,” he stated. “That was probably enough for you to come check it out.”
“Why would I wait to come get it? I could just come get it on Monday when I return to work,” you said, frowning.
“Maybe you wanted to be sure you got it before I had to ship it off. You’re smart, you know we can’t just hold onto it. Especially with you and the Reindeer games coming in and out of the tower.”
You sighed. “Tony, I don’t want anything to do with that scepter. It nearly got me and everyone I love killed. I don’t care if you destroy it.”
He eyed you for a moment. “You know… I ran diagnostics on it.”
“You did? What did you find?”
“It’s...unusual. JARVIS says it's like a computer. Banner seems to think it’s almost like a brain.”
“And you? What do you think?”
His gaze held something unreadable in it. “I think that for once, we agree on something. This can’t fall into the wrong hands.”
You nodded before turning to walk out of the lab and rejoin the party. Then you turned back, partially, for just a moment. “Thank you… for trusting me enough to follow my lead and go to Sokovia in the first place.”
All he did was cast his eyes to the floor and you left the floor to return to the festivities. Maria acknowledged that you walked in the room before Loki was at your side. He rubbed soothing circles on your back as the mingling continued. The hours flashed by and suddenly, it was just the Avengers in the middle of the common room, save for Dr. Cho, Shannon, Maria, you, and Loki. The party had nearly ended. Conversation had gotten around to Thor’s hammer. You sat next to Loki, your hand entwined with his.
Everyone was taking turns to lift the hammer, laughing at how it was a trick.
“That’s an interesting theory,” Thor began. “I have a better one. You’re all not worthy.”
Suddenly Shannon perked up.
“Did anyone hear that? It was a squeak,” she said, starting to turn around, gazing around the room when suddenly the noise had made itself known.
“Worthy,” a robot said as it limped into the room, oil leaking from its form, an arm missing. Immediately, everyone started to slowly stand up. “How could you be worthy? You’re all killers.”
“Stark,” Steve said.
“JARVIS,” Tony responded.
“I’m sorry, I was asleep,” the robot responded. “Or I was a dream.”
“Reboot Legionnaire OS. We got a buggy suit,” Tony said, tapping his phone futilely.
“There was this terrible noise. And I was tangled in--in strings.”
“Tony,” Shannon said, fear in her voice.
“I had to kill the other guy. He was a good guy.”
“You killed someone?” Steve demanded.
Your eyes stayed planted on the robot as a million uncomfortable emotions swept through you.
“Wouldn’t have been my first call. But down in the real world, we’re faced with ugly choices.”
“Who sent you?” Thor commanded.
Tony’s voice suddenly played from a recording. “I see a suit of armor around the world.”
“Ultron,” Banner recognized, turning to Tony.
“In the flesh,” this Ultron responded. “Or no, not yet. Not this chrysalis. But I’m ready. I’m on mission.”
“What mission?” Nat wondered.
“Peace in our time.”
Without warning, three bots burst out of the wall at all of you. Steve kicked a table up to deflect a bot that was headed straight for him. Loki quickly grabbed you and spun you out of the way before casting an illusion of himself, pushing you back towards towards a corner. Each of the Avengers was fighting a bot. Nat had to jump over the bar. Maria shot at a bot. Rhodey was pushed down a level, slammed through a glass ceiling. Clint slid under a table. Tony was rammed into a bookcase. Shannon was hit by a blast and into a wall.
Steve jumped on top of one of the bots, but he propelled backwards and crashed him into a wall.
“Steve!” you shouted, coming out from hiding, grabbing his shield and charging it before launching it as hard as you could at the bot, obliterating it. Tony managed to disarm one with a fondu fork. Nat was shooting at one and you turned towards it, purple streaming from your fingers, electricity sparking through the power as you electrocuted the machine.
“That was dramatic,” Ultron remarked as all of you stood up from positions of hiding or cover. “I’m sorry, I know you mean well. You just didn’t think it through. You want to protect the world, but you don’t want it to change. How is humanity saved if it’s not allowed to evolve. With these? These puppets. There’s only one path to peace. The Avengers extinction.”
Thor threw his hammer as hard as he could, smashing the main robot to smithereens.
And that ultimately killed the party. In a whirlwind, everyone was in Tony’s lab. Nat and you had changed out of your dresses into jeans and a tank top. Steve had sent Thor after the Legionnaire that escaped the building.
“All our work is gone. Ultron cleared out. He used the Internet as an escape hatch,” Banner informed.
“Ulton,” Steve scoffed.
“He’s been in everything. Files, surveillance. He probably knows more about us than we know about each other,” Natasha informed.
“He’s been in our files. What if he decides to access something a little more exciting?” Rhodey asked, pacing.
“Nuclear codes,” Maria murmured.
“Like nuclear codes,” Rhodey explained.
The rest of the team continued to discuss the current situation for a few more moments. They addressed the fact that JARVIS was destroyed as the first line of defense. Without much warning, Thor came storming into the lab grabbing Tony by the throat.
“Alright, buddy, use your words,” Tony requested.
“I have more than enough words to describe you, Stark,” Thor vowed darkly.
“Hey!” Shannon shouted. “Thor, put him down. What happened to the Legionnaire?”
“Trail went cold about 100 miles out, but it’s headed north. And it has the scepter.”
A few eyes went to you and Loki, but you tried to ignore the burning gazes.
“Now we have to retrieve it, again,” Thor said with frustration.
“I don’t understand. You built this program. Why is it trying to kill us?” Dr. Cho asked.
Tony was turned around, and suddenly… he was laughing. You frowned while Bruce shook his head to warn Tony that wasn’t the smartest idea.
“You think this is funny?” Thor asked incredulously.
“No,” Tony responded. “It’s probably not, right? This is very terrible. Is it so… It is. It’s so terrible,” he replied, sarcasm wrapping his tone.
“This could’ve been avoided if you hadn’t played with something you don’t understand,” Thor stated.
“No. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. It is funny,” Tony remarked, walking towards Thor. “It’s a hoot that you don’t get why we need this.”
“Tony, maybe this might not be the time,” Bruce warned.
“Really? That’s it?” Tony demanded, angry. “You just roll over, show your belly every time somebody snarls?”
“Only when I’ve created a murder bot.”
“We didn’t. We weren’t even close. Were we close to an interface?”
“Tony, what the hell, I thought Ultron was just a fantasy. Something we put to rest a long time ago?” Shannon demanded.
“It was. Until this,” Tony responded. “We had the scepter. It had so much energy. I saw it and I thought, ‘Hey, this is what we’ve been looking for. Something to protect the world.’”
“You did this, without even discussing it with me? You used unknown magic, power, to fuel a system that we have no idea about?”
“Anybody remember when I carried a nuke through a wormhole?” Tony asked. “Saved New York? Recall that? A hostile alien army came charging through a hole in space. We’re standing 300 feet below it. We’re the Avengers. We can bust arms dealers all the livelong day, but that up there, that’s...That’s the endgame. So that when people like them--” he walked over and pointed to you and Loki “--come charging back in, with bigger guns and more enemies, we have a defense.”
“Tony,” Shannon said, disappointment encompassing her tone.
“No, he’s right,” you suddenly said.
Everyone’s eyes flashed to you.
“Tony, you said you wanted a suit of armor around the world? That’s what this is designed to do? To protect the world from a greater threat? Then you’re right to do so.”
“I’m not sure whether or not I should be happy you’re agreeing with me,” he noted.
“Y/N, you can’t be serious,” Shannon responded. “You saw what that did…”
“I don’t know what happened with the development. But I know Tony, and I know his heart was in the right place. I’ve seen what else is out there, and he’s right to be scared of it. And if we have anything -- anything -- that serves as a line of defense, then I’m all for it.”
“Are we really gonna take her side?” Rhodey asked. “This isn’t looking good for you, Tony. The only person to agree with you is an ex-con.”
“Is that really all I am to you, Rhodey?” you asked, bite in your voice.
“Last I checked, you spent years down in a cell for attacking the city. And now, thanks to that, Tony here has created a murder bot.”
“He was trying to create a weapon of defense. That’s what he does. That’s what we need. You don’t get it. None of you get it. I’ve seen people and things far more dangerous than Loki or I could ever be. You need this system.”
“Well whatever Stark was trying to create, it went bad. We need to know how bad,” Steve responded. “He wanted us extinct. So what does that mean? Ultron is calling us out. He’s getting a plan together. I’d like for us to have one before he does.”
“Tony, what happened to you not going through with your plan?” Shannon suddenly burst out, demanding. “It was only just the girl messing with your head. Why would you go creating this thing? We talked about this. I told you not to but you went behind my back and did it anyways. Does my word not mean a thing to you?”
Shannon was distressed, that was evident. You had hardly ever seen her this distraught.
“You know that’s not what this is!” Tony snapped. “Of course your word means something to me but you gotta understand with Ultron things could be safer for the world.”
“Safer how, Tony? You just created a robot who wants to end the Avengers. What’s to stop it from destroying the world that you want to protect?”
“Shan,” you started, sympathy in your voice as you took a step toward her, “his heart was in the right place. I don’t blame him for wanting to build Ultron. How he became a murder bot, I can’t imagine. If Tony said they weren’t close to an interface, I believe him. He just wants to protect the people he loves.”
“I get that he was trying to do good but this isn’t how you go about it. This is crazy. All the people who have tried to make things right always turn out wrong. You don’t need to be the next one on that list. And for you to be siding with him is crazy! That thing was being powered by the damn scepter that had Clint turned into a mindless goon and had you almost destroy all of New York.”
“The scepter, when used correctly, can do great things, wonderful things. At least he is trying to make the world a better place. A safer place. When we came down to invade, it was almost too easy,” you stressed.
Clint spoke up. “Yeah so easy that you lost and had your ass handed to you.”
Your face turned him, your expression angry. “I seem to remember nearly killing all of you, not to mention destroying most of Manhattan, and that was just two of us with a small army.”
“Regardless of who did what, I am sending that scepter back where it belongs, to be locked up. I don’t want to hear another word of this from anyone!” She turned to Bruce, shaking her head as she said, “And you, Bruce, I can’t believe you helped him. I’m so disappointed.”
She shook her head before walking off, forcing everyone to be silent.
----------------------
Bright and early the next day, the team gathered. Maria found information on a “large metal man” coming into facilities all over the globe with something too fast to see, and people being left with worst nightmares and memories. Strucker was apparently killed, which threw all of you off. Steve grabbed out all the physical files, as the ones online had been destroyed. They found files on a guy that worked out of Wakanda -- where vibranium was kept - a whole slew of it.
Natasha was able to find a salvage yard where vibranium was being harvested and sold off the grid, black market. Weapons.
That was the next target.
The team began to disperse to get ready to start their mission, with you getting ready to head up to the lab, to begin work on your project. Shannon had other ideas for you though. As Steve walked off to his quarters, she followed him.
“Hey, Steve,” she called quietly.
He turned and greeted her. “Hey, Shan. You ready to fight this guy?”
“Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” she noted.
He frowned at her, unsure of what she meant. “What’s wrong?”
“Is there any chance you can do me a favor?”
“I’ll try, but what is it?”
“Convince Tony to let Y/N come on the mission with us. I could use a second pair of hands getting the vibranium, and she can fight.”
He pursed his lips, his signature ‘I’m not so sure about this’ look.’ “Shan…” He sighed. “You’re not going to fight with us?”
“Bruce says it’s not good for me, and you all don’t need me to take Ultron on. You and the team can do that. Let Y/N and I get the vibranium, and get it away from him.”
“I don’t know. She just recently got released...”
“It’s been months,” she reminded. “She’s been perfect.”
“Yeah, that’s what worries me. You don’t think it’s strange that the only time she’s tried to help the Avengers since she’s been captured or released has been in the result of getting the scepter?”
“Y/N isn’t that calculated. She wouldn’t have someone else do the heavy lifting.”
“Maybe she wouldn’t, but he might,” he retorted.
“You mean Loki? Loki… he’s a damaged soul, like me. He had a rough life and he was forced to do something he didn’t want to do to survive something worse. I know this in my heart that Y/N and Loki are sorry for what they did. Come on, she’s done nothing but help me when I’m down. I had to beg her to come to the party. I just want things to go back to before she left -- except, you know, she has powers now.”
He sighed, putting his hands on his hips. “Alright. I’ll try to tell him.”
“Oh thank you!” she cheered, hugging him.
He nodded and said, “Yeah, yeah.” Then the two set off towards Tony’s quarters. They went in his bedroom where he was tweaking a suit. “Hey, Tony?”
“What’s shakin’, Capsicle?” he asked, welding, his eyes not leaving his project. “You ready to go?”
“Actually, I wanted to ask you if you’d let Y/N join the team on this mission?”
Tony stopped all activity. He flipped his helmet up and turned to Steve. “Are you high? No.”
“Come on. Shannon needs a hand getting the vibranium, and we’ll need to focus on the twins and Ultron. Not to mention, in case we need it, she can fight and she’s got powers that might help.”
“Did you not hear me? I said no. That’s it. We don’t need her. Not to mention I don’t want her anywhere near that scepter.”
“Tony--” Shannon started, begging in her voice.
“Shan, I said no. I’m sorry. I know she’s your friend but we can’t trust her.”
“Why?” she demanded. “Because she’s killed people? Who here hasn’t? Because she worked for the bad guy once? Who here hasn’t? If you’re going to start excluding people from the team based off sketchy pasts then this who team needs to disband because no one here is a saint. She can help me and I really think being a part of the team might help her. She supported you on this hairbrained idea, the least you can do is give her a chance.”
He stared at his bride, chagrin on his face. He didn’t like the points she was making. But he gave in.
“Alright, fine. Get her some gear. We leave in thirty.”
With that, she turned on her heel and went up to the lab.
“Hey, Y/N,” she said, walking in.
“Hey,” you greeted sweetly back. “So I can get a jumpstart on some of my numbers while you’re gone--”
“You’re coming with us,” she blurted out, a grin on her face.
“I’m… what?” you asked.
“I got Tony to approve you to be on the team. Come on, I need help getting the vibranium and the team can focus on the three baddies. What do you say? We’ve never teamed up together.”
“No, we haven’t,” you agreed. “But maybe there’s a reason.”
“Or maybe it was waiting for us to get to here,” she said excitedly. “Come on, we’re two bad ass bitches. Don’t you think it’d be fun?”
“Yeah, I suppose…”
“Great! Let’s go get you some gear. What do you need?”
------------------------------------
You were about to land, your body alive with nervousness. Your leg bounced as you sat on the jet between Clint and Shannon.
“Hey, you nervous?” Clint whispered as he leaned over to you.
“That obvious?” you asked with a slight laugh. You tried to stop your leg from bouncing, and tried to stop the wringing of your hands but it was hard.
“What’s got you so nervous? You’ve fought before.”
“Yeah but then I wasn’t really in fear of my life. Not really. What I was made into… death wasn’t an option, not from you all anyway. But now… I mean, this is real.”
“Well... You’ll be out of the way of the firepower anyway unless we actually need you -- which shouldn’t happen,” he encouraged. “Just stay with Shannon, and you’ll be alright.”
“Thanks,” you breathed, taking a deep breath.
Next thing you knew, the plane was landing and you all were running out of the plane into a salvage yard. The Avengers headed towards various points of entry while you and Shannon headed toward the lowest level, that’s where you expected it to find the vibranium.
After two minutes, you heard gunfire and fighting.
“Shit,” you whispered to Shannon.
“The mission is still the same,” she assured as she moved through the darkness. A loud shot fired behind you and you ducked before spinning to cast magic at them, making their guns hit them in the head and knock them out. Behind you, but in front of Shannon, another shot was heard before she silenced him. “Keep moving,” she called over her shoulder quietly.
The two of you found the container that was half filled with vibranium.
“Guys, found the payload. I’ll just get it to the plane,” Shannon said into the comms. “Should we take it all out or just get the container hooked up or--”
“Y/N, look ou--”
Before you could respond or know what she was talking about, suddenly the room changed. You weren’t looking at a container full of vibranium anymore. You were on Sanctuary, on your hands and knees. Thanos had just thrown you to the ground.
“Get up,” he commanded in that calm voice you hated so much. “Get up or I’ll turn my training to him,” he vowed.
You groaned, turning to him, spitting blood out of your mouth. “No, no, don’t touch him.”
“I won’t have to, if you don’t disappoint me,” he stated. “Again,” he ordered. You stood up wearily, you could feel your eye swelling. He had put you through horrible combat training with one of the aliens on sanctuary. “Kill her, and he lives,” he promised.
You frowned as the creature took their hood off, only to show you a very familiar face under the hood -- Shannon. Without hesitation, she came forward for you. Her energy casting towards you. At first, you defended yourself, until you remembered his promise, and you threw her off of you. You fought tooth and nail, hitting, kicking, punching, letting you rip into her body, until her cries cut off with a gurgle.
“You’ve done so well, my love,” Loki cooed as he stood beside you, a smile of approval on his face as he gazed down to your dead best friend.
--------------
“From the top,” a russian voice demanded.
“You’ll break them,” Shannon cooed as she watched a class of girls -- dancers. They were learning everything from firearms, tactics, ballet, seduction...
“You’re made out of marble,” the voice responded, a bit of admiration in her tone. “We’ll celebrate with the ceremony, your graduation.”
Shannon’s hands flew to her stomach, where she looked down before tears sprang to her eyes. “No. No, I never wanted this.”
“Ah, but your parents did,” the voice said back to her.
As if she blinked, she was suddenly in combat with a strong man. He had long, dark brown hair. She only ever saw his eyes, and an arm… made of metal. He swung at her with one hand, and she dodged it, but he brought a knife across her stomach and she glided right into it.
“Poor work. You deflected the wrong shot,” the woman remarked.
Shannon breathed raggedly, trying to find a way to end this fight.
In the next second, she was in front of her target, or rather, her target in front of her. A person. Shannon lifted her gun, calculated, ready to pull the trigger, it would be so easy. Aim between the eyes, like she’d been trained.
“Do this, and your training will be complete,” the woman promised.
“Wait, Shannon, don’t you don’t have to do this” the voice cried. That voice. She knew it… The person took shape, took full form in front of her. It was you. You were in front of her, crying, weeping, begging her not to. Your hands tied behind your back.
Without so much as a flinch, she pulled the trigger.

So a few posts ago I mentioned how for my fanfic AU Clark Kent is NOT known as “Superman” right? That’s majorly because he’s known as the “Nightwing”! Surprise! And because, Clark’s “superhero” career in The Bat and the Kryptonian is initiated and then entirely founded by Bruce Wayne! Bruce even picked his Nightwing-hairstyle (HUGE changes ikr)
Yes, Clark has a Brightburn-ish background; no, he’s actually NOT evil
You must be wondering where’s Dick Grayson now. That will be explained in the future......
Squeezing in some backstory elements:
BE-1 —this AU’s Bruce already knew why his parents were murdered and who called the shots not long after a masked “joker” gunned them down (drawing a bit of inspiration from the Joker movie), someone who had a plan in mind for Bruce (that’s not exactly in Bruce’s best interests) informed him upfront. Although later in life Bruce succeeds big times and is worth almost 20 billion dollars (this will become an unfortunate running joke...), all those years he knew deep in his heart that he, along with his parents, are all being used as pawns in a high-stake game; he knows he can be taken out literally at ANYTIME if he’s just a little uncareful
BE-2 —Clark’s (Kal-El’s) Kryptonian background is even more intriguing. Brightburn AU, a.k.a. the AU where Kryptonians are evil invaders feared by all civilizations (hence one of the many reasons why Diana wants to kill Clark asap). Planet Krypton “imploded” out of nowhere. Kal-El was at the time one of many genetic experiments created on Krypton, after the “implosion” he was the ONLY life within the “implosion’s” range that survived, no Kryptonian could explain how and why. Lead scientist Jor-El decided to send Kal-El as a wildcard to the planet Earth—an interesting planet he studied and was fascinated with. Kal-El is quite an abnormal case, for one the substance supply needed to quick-grow a Kryptonian embryo into a full adult before reaching the target planet (so they can then immediately start the invasion upon arrival) did NOT work properly for him, he only grew into a cute little baby. Martha and Jonathan Kent, whom recently suffered a devastating miscarriage, decided against reporting the alien spacecraft and took him in as their own.
BE-⭐️ —SUMMER CAMP!
Kal-El (12 at that time), renamed Clark Joseph Kent upon adoption met this new kid at camp named “Michael Murphy”. The two almost immediately struck up a tight friendship, they were inseparable. Before parting ways when camp ended “Michael” finally decided to reveal his real name to his trusted friend Clark, but only got to finish saying “my name is Bruce...” before he was interrupted then picked up. So, Bruce Wayne (8 at the time) who’d just lost everything and was in hiding met Clark at summer camp! So, Clark while trying to reach his new friend afterwards ended up mistakenly sending letters to a 50-something-year-old dude named Bruce Murphy and got all his letters returned to him, how nice
Going back to this sketch I made
as a general reference for myself: let’s follow the thought process of Bruce designing and crafting both his own and Clark’s costumes.
First and foremost, although Bruce is an insanely rich billionaire, in reality he can NOT simply spend as much money as he’d please here (there are good reasons, to be looked at in the future). In other words, he really needs to think about the cost and effectiveness of things and consider what is really needed and what is unnecessary for each occasion. Leads to an incident where Alfred noticed Bruce cutting budget from his own gear to improve Clark’s, needless to say Alfred’s not pleased
What is notable for the Batman costume, let’s see... it’s a uniform dark color, with only the Bat-logo having a dull gold outline and the utility belt having a very light gold tint. All parts of the costume are pretty unreflective in order to camouflage it with the dark of night. The mask provides vision and hearing enhancements, the eye portion’s appearance is close to Spider-Man’s mask’s design (follows facial expressions, no constant frown). The Batman of this AU still can’t really fly, his cape helps him glide tho. The base suit serves as a power boost (in this AU it has something similar to Black Panther’s suit’s energy conversion function, which boosts punches, kicks and stuff) and as a protection against a wide range of outside impacts (strikes, fall, cuts, gunfire, etc.). The utility belt is used for storing gadgets and tools and holding the top and bottom pieces of his costume together. The base suit is comfy and makes sure the wearer is not too warm or cold, so he doesn’t need to wear anything except for regular sport boxers underneath
Moving on to the Nightwing costume. This costume is like the Batman’s polar opposite in many ways. Opposite from how the Batman’s mask covers the upper half of his face, Clark’s mask covers the lower half of his face and provides no visual or hearing enhancements (because Clark does NOT need those). As an added disguise, Clark’s natural eye color, which in this AU is dark grey, becomes very blue under the disguise of his mask—it even gives his naturally dark brown hair a blueish tint. The cape is lightly iridescent under sunlight and splits into two parts vaguely resembling two wings, Clark definitely stands out wearing it. The base suit is very aerodynamic and centers in on the purpose of not splitting open when Clark throws his powerful punches and kicks, so connecting parts (lighter-colored) are stronger and more elastic. One very important thing Bruce found out is that Clark needs protection against Kryptonite, believe it or not, when making his costume Bruce actually gave it Kryptonite-proof properties, which help Clark tremendously later on (trust level over 9000). Lastly, despite having holsters/pockets on his belt Clark doesn’t bring gadgets from home (not even his phone, Bruce maintains Ghost in the Shell-esque communication with him at all times)
Well that’s all for now about this AU
