A relationship between human and cyborg.. How did that even work?

That was the question you always heard when the people of your planet met your boyfriend.

Granted, cyborgs were, in a way, still human. Not completely for sure, but still human. They had human feelings, human desires, human minds. It just so happened they had a body of steel and metal. There was no denying, however, that cyborgs felt.. a little inhuman sometimes. Their bodies was one such example, the steel often glinting underneath the light. Often times, they had.. "unique" features that weren't present in normal humans. Some had retractable arms, extended legs, and even extended—

Let's not go there.

Point is— cyborgs weren't quite human. Their unique features would make regular humans fear them. But, hey, this was the whole damn universe, of course there'll be the occasional weirdo or two with the sheer amount of planets that littered the whole, wide galaxy (I mean, Planet Screwllum literally exists), but that's to be expected.

Anyway, where were we? Right. Unique features.

For one, your boyfriend, a cyborg named Boothill, had this fun, little tech embedded in him called the Synesthesia Beacon. It was a translator device that allowed one's thoughts and consciousness into a language the receiver could understand. In this case— you.

Oh, and it was so, so hilarious.

And it also just happened that someone tinkered with his Synesthesia Beacon (Aeons knew who but a part of you thanks them for it). As thus, any fun curse words he wished to say were basically censored.

"That fudging idiot!" Boothill hissed lowly under his breath. "Can't forking believe that someone messed around with my Synesthesia Beacon. How the heck did they manage to do that anyway?"

You bit back a laugh and attempted for a gentle smile to hide your smirk. That obviously failed with the way Boothill shot you a warning glare.

"Ya sure ya weren't behind this, darlin'?" He plopped himself onto the seat next to you, cold, mechanical arms immediately wrapping around your waist like it belonged there. The thought made you a little happy. Just a little, of course. "Maybe ya did this to mess with me, hm?"

"I would never," you retorted with a chuckle. "I can't even trust myself with tinkering with elaborate machinery or whatnot, what made you think I'd have the balls to mess yours up?"

"Hah. Fair enough," he replied. "Still. Look at me. I sound like a character from those duckin' kid shows."

Boothill's face contorted, an unpleasant sneer forming on his lips at the realization that a simple 'damn' got censored too. God, that expression was hilarious.

"Pfft—" You really, really couldn't hold it back for much longer— "Duckin', huh?"

"Sweetheart, ya know I love ya, so spare me the laughin' and just don't for the love of frills— The fork?! Frills? Frills? Are you friggin kiddin' me right now? That friggin' son of a birch, I swear."

You laughed silently as he continued to rant on (Read: Attempt to cuss) with no end. You shifted in your place to face him, gently removing his grip on your waist. Once you've faced him, you gently cupped his cheeks, eyebrow raised.

Boothill stopped.

You always had that effect on him. One simple touch was all it took to rid him of all of his anger. It didn't matter whatever shit he was worrying about, the moment you touched him with a knowing glint in your eye, he immediately went quiet each time. His shoulders relaxed, obsidian eyes softening, and the deep frown on his face easing into a neutral line.

"You calmed down much more quicker this time," you hummed, thumb gently tracing his cheek. "Color me surprised."

"Duh, because it's ya, sweetheart," he murmured in reply, nuzzling further into your touch. "Don't know how ya do it, but ya always make me feel calm. I like it."

You didn't reply this time, your other hand reaching out to remove the hat atop of Boothill's head and placing it aside. Your fingers threaded itselves through his long, black and white locks, brushing aside the occasional tangle. His hair wasn't soft and perfect by any means but.. you didn't mind.

You still recalled the way your friends and family were.. rather concerned for you once they learned of your relationship with Boothill. In your planet, cyborgs, mechanical, and inorganic life forms weren't exactly welcome. It was taboo to even interact with one. Yet, you went ahead and got yourself a cyborg boyfriend anyway. Of course, they would be concerned.

Putting his whole "cyborg" origin aside, Boothill's personality and position as a Galaxy Ranger was something to.. definitely worry about. Galaxy Rangers were known for being lone travellers throughout the universe. Rarely do they travel in groups unless subduing an evil that a Ranger couldn't deal on their own. Wouldn't you be just abandoned? Be neglected? Those were the words of your loved ones.

Boothill wasn't like that in the slightest. Despite his outgoing and unrestrained personality, he made sure to never leave you alone for too long. Made you sure were happy first and foremost. Wasn't that enough? Wasn't him doing his best enough?

As you gaze into his eyes, you smiled again.

Yes. It was definitely enough.

"I love you," you said.

"I love you too, sweetheart," he said in turn. "Too duckin' much."

"..Pfft. Duckin'."

"I take it back. I don't love ya anymore."

"Hey!"

So, how did a relationship between a human and a cyborg work?

You don't know. It just did. To your planet, it was a taboo. To you, it felt right. It didn't matter to you one bit. In the end, Boothill being a cyborg did not matter.

And wasn't the most important thing here was love? You love him. He loves you.

That alone was enough.

another jupeter piece and some recommended songs from my jupeter playlist!

I have synesthesia which means my brain associates certain audio and music with different colors and shapes, so I worked a lot with the colors on this piece and especially the background to kind of translate some of the visualizations I get when I listen to these songs together! If you read the lyrics of both you’ll see why I heavily associate them with juno and peter!

I have another piece that I’ll hopefully post circa S3 that goes along with There’s No Secrets This Year (the most jupeter song ever) and a comic for Waltz in E-Major, Op. 15 “Moon Waltz” by Cojum Dip that I really want to work on soon! Thank you so much for the support while I’ve been on hiatus! i’m tired and blasting outsiders so here’s my explaination for what i see whenever one of them sings

With brody it’s kinda like…deep red? I don’t know why, it’s just a deep red. Warmer tones. The only cool color is like a navyish blue. It’s a spectrum honestly-it can kinda be a toss up? It really depends but usually it’s a nice shade of seeping red and navy blue with some warmer tones (yellows and oranges) in there as well. riffs are kinda fun because it’s like…i don’t know how to describe it but it’s like each note is an individual ring and it’s kinda like this gradient effect between either red and blue or red and yellow. It really depends. It kinda gets that silvery misty look with some of the higher notes.

Jason was kinda funny because if I didn’t have synesthesia I wouldn’t guess his voice would be a dark color but it’s like…kinda neon? Y’know how you watch those neon painting videos? That’s kinda what it’s like. Usually it’s uber bright colors on a black background. Kinda like bioluminescent light in a way. It sounds uglier than it is but trust me-it’s kinda got a more splashy feel to it. Like just splashes of chan and magenta against the black background. I dunno how to describe it lol

With Brent it’s kinda more woodsy? Shades of green and brown-kinda more earthy in a way. It’s kinda like going through the woods at sunset. Golden shimmering through leaves and lighting up a path iagaknst brown dirt in a way. It sounds weird but y’know. Even in his more aggressive tones it’s still that woodsy, earthy feeling. It’s never really dull but it’s never too bright. Like ai said it’s like a forest at sunset where the gold is just barely peeking through the green leaves. It’s prettier in retrospect.

Sky’s got a bit more f an orange/beige pallets? Like it’s kinda desert like in a way. sjust sandy and earthy-not quite in the same way as Brent but y’know-It’s also got some lavenders and violets in there? Like it really depends with him on the notes he’s singing but usually his voice is a rustic orange color with swirls of beige or tan and little flecks of purple. Think desert like with some purple in there. Sometimes the brown can kinda fade into a yellowish color; or a more muted gold. Just sandy colors. Desert hues.

Josh is purple. Alllll purple with some gold. Little Brother is SUCH a fun experience because it literally has such a strong grape purple to it and it just slowly bursts into more vibrant purples. It never goes beyond say a violet? But if randhes in spectrum. There can be some very dark red-darker than Brody’s voice but definitely still visibly red-or well, reddish pink. But it can also have little bits of gold or yellow. It’s like if you were stuck in grape jelly or something and the only thing visible was sunlight. It’s like that. Just smooth. Sometimes it can be midnight blue too but usually it’s shades of purple or something.

I don’t egg to hear much of Daryl’s voice but it’s definitely some form of yellowish brown. Not like Sky…think more sunrise colors. Pale. Sometimes muted. It really depends. Now again there’s not much audio I’ve heard of Daryl but he definitely has like dark orange/yellow vocals. Sprinkle a bit of sort of denim blue in there for good measure and boom. Sometimes he can have bursts of bright colors like bright pinkish red or bright orange but other than that it’s kinda hard to tell with such little audio lol

Emma’s all purples and pinks to me. Mostly light purples and pinks and kinda bubbly in a way? Like I just picture bubbles lol-white bubbles on a purple and pink gradient background kinda just floating around. During I Can Talk To You All Night it kinda also leads into a royal blue. But for the majority it tends to be pink and purple and kinda bubbly lol-kinda giving Sylveon vibes if I say so.

Anyway. I know this probably makes me sound high off my ass but figured it was worth a share.

Here‘s my… thoughts, roughly in order:

Arrogant asshole but the clothes really look sleek on him

Sam really knows how to use mannerisms for display of character traits (in this case: smoking). Holy moly.

That cast right? They had to leave the cast open in the back for… practical reasons. Like, a cast takes a while to dry, and then the night, and the day after… Good thing he is in the stable already 😬 (And imagining the handling inside, later?! 😬😅)

The fact that he is receptive to the reality/visions was a nice twist!

The stories as a means to tell the harsh past was very well done.

I was just wondering what neopronoun users think about other people working around their neos?

For example, I've got a disorder (similar to/an enhanced kind of synesthesia) that means that I have very, very vivid connections to each word, so I genuinely can't get it in my head to use others' neopronouns in case conversation about them gets too difficult for me. I know that other people dislike the idea of memorising pronouns specifically for one person, too

The friends I have that use neopronouns are completely fine with me using their neos as names rather than pronouns, and that works for all of us; I was just wondering how other neo users feel about that? (E.g. if their pronouns are he/cat, I'll call them Cat as well as their actual name and use he for their pronouns.)

Funniest thing is, I have a xenogender and also a set of pronouns that I will never use for myself lol

Generally, if you have a disorder or disability neopronoun users are fine with people using alternatives! It seems like you worked out a good alternative to use with your friends and I'm glad that works well for y'all!

Some neopronoun users prefer different alternatives for people who can't use their pronouns, for example some would prefer you don't use any pronouns and instead refer to them by name only, as not all of us use he/she/they pronouns.

I personally really like your alternative, infact I considered using Sky as a name! (my main neo set is sky/skyr) And I really appreciate that you still try to respect people's neopronouns even if they also use he/she/they.

Took an edible and was having Tav thoughts: In Gale's first romance scene you can experience sensory things through the weave, right? I like to think of magic as like a separate sense, and that MEANS that if Tav had synesthesia then they could see/hear/or my personal favorite: taste magic etc. What would Gale's magic taste like? What would Rolan's taste like? So many possibilities

What DOES magic taste like!!!!! I love thinking about how magic works in this game, even tho it’s very confusing and I’ll lead myself in circles lol. I know the difference between a wizard and a sorcerer but do I really know? How do bards even work???? What does magic feel like when you cast it? Does it feel different for everyone? Depends on your class?

Gale’s magic, would it taste/feel different to him after the orb? That scene mentions rose water but was it always like that? Did it used to be more of a reflection of him rather than Mystra herself or is he just know figuring out how to utilize magic without her? (Technically all magic is Mystra so technically he couldn’t cast it without or whatever but idk how any of it works I’m here for character development not logistics)

Rolan is self taught and scrappy, but diligent I feel like his magic would almost burn on the way down like some kind of liquor. But it leaves you feeling warm for a long while after.

So about that whole synesthesia personality shit I was yapping about in part 8 end notes. I figured it out for BF, GF, and Pico. Or more or less how I interpret their personalities to be. So here's a fat infodump about this:

GFCherry: "Sweetest Rain" by Abilene. Soul and self like a divine dance of kindness and playfulness. She hates thunderstorms but the dewdrops on plants after a morning's rain resonates with her. There's always an air of mysticism to her because of, well, demon. But unlike her heritage she's nothing but kind. People get so hung up on just how sweet she is, how is that even possible? It's easy to get lost in her sound, surrounding you like a warm blanket. She radiates safety and calmness while still being strong in herself. There's just enough mischief in the way she sounds as well to make it known as an important part. For her, she exists in deep purple and gold like a stunning sunset, with some silver as well. She's got shapes like a downpour of rain on a window, vines twisting and curling too.

Pico: "Snöfall" by A Cerulean State. A lot of Pico's whole thing is being kinda cut off and hardened by his past experiences, and it makes him seem kinda cold and lonely. But he's got the strongest sense of loyalty out there, not afraid to make hard choices, and strong. But he's also easy to fluster and shy about affection even when he really wants it. Dude's just gone through a lot and deserves to be happy even if he struggles to understand that. A lot of what he does is to protect himself, and also let loose the anger he has at the world that fucked him over. So like... kind of a deep space blue and jade green with little HINTS of gray. Dude kinda swirls around with solid shapes and stuff. Idk how to properly explain this one lol but it's very him

BFKeith: "nuuk winter" by Emaloo. Because even though someone can be overly energetic and chaotic, it doesn't necessarily translate into how they sound. Make no mistake, he is both of those things, and also a dumbass, but it honestly just translates into a positive vibe instead. Something about him just pulls everyone in whether they accept it or hate his guts. He loves hard and is a bit naive at times, but there's fun in that. Confident in what he fights for is right. A very pastel magenta, something in-between a peach and silver color, and that one specific deep ocean blue-green you KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. Kinda wavy shapes. Orbital sort of. Dude is just a good vibes atmosphere.

I don't expect any of this to make much sense I'm bad at putting it into words which is a curse of synesthesia because a lot of the time you can't fully explain wtf ur seeing. especially with this type of it. ILL PAINT THESE I REALLY WANT TO I NEED TO PAINT THEM BEFORE I DO THE ONESHOT OF THIS SO PEOPLE CAN HAVE AN ACTUAL VISION OF WHAT IM SAYING

1. The Anthem of Mr Dark by The Arcadian Wild

I discovered this song very recently, and I was… very much stunned by how much it resonated with me. I don’t often relate to the songs that I listen to, but this one is. special :) The lyrics are all so beautiful & poignant, and there’s a deeply rooted sense of human in the song, I suppose. The ending with the overlapping voices is so so neat to me, and the CELLO (I think it’s a cello) ARE !!!!!!!

2. Liar by The Arcadian Wild

THIS SONG IS INSANE. THIS SONG IS INSANE. OKAYOKAY. Gosh I so very much enjoy songs that have plucked guitar strings that sound emotional and/or haunting. And GOSH!!! THIS SONG!!! LISTEN TOTHE GUIATARSHEGSJSGSJGDJG. The lyric, “in the light I swear I will… deny it all” just. hits me and sticks with me So Much for some reason. Dude and the 2:43 to 3:56 stretch is my Favorite part oh my gosh. The sudden switch from fairly calm instruments to things that are Loud and Heavy makes it ram itself all the more deeper into my heart. This is such a phenomenal song.

3. No Surprises cover by nani

I LIKE THIS MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL!!! I DO I DO I DO!!! And like. just from a guitarist’s perspective this song is amazing; the chords are beautiful, the finger-picking is lovely, the strums are so so nice, and the way she blends finger-picking and strumming into One Thing is something that I admire. Every time I hear this song I think to myself, “gosh I hope I can play like this someday.” And the EMOTION in her VOICE !!!!!!!

4. Wasted Summer cover by MaybeEh

To be perfectly honest I Don’t know why I became obsessed with this one. It’s not even a Real official song it is literally a cover someone made on GarageBand. And yet it is SO GOOD!!! ??? I cannot tell you the sheer amount of times I have listened to this song. I think it’s the chorus for me. Ough… that chorus. That amazing amazing chorus. The lyrics on the screen are incorrect by the way, so I never pay attention to them 😅

5. Hmm… probably tied between Waiting To Change by Kaden MacKay & Open Eyes by Jimmy Clifton. Waiting To Change is just a generally beautiful song; I first discovered it back when it first released, and I really liked it! But then I forgot about its existence lol. OKAYOKAY SO SOMETHING THAT I THINK ABOUT is that moment when Ghostbur is talking to Phil about ghosts; Ghostbur talked about how whenever he read about ghosts, the ghosts always seemed to be able to do things that he can’t do. Walk through walls, for example, and float in the air. And Ghostbur stated that he can’t do those things, and that it was frustrating to not find any ghosts, fictional or real, that were like him.

And I don’t know man. I think about that a lot. In so many aspects Ghostbur behaved just like a normal, alive being would; he walked, he ate food. He couldn’t teleport or float in the air. He couldn’t walk through things, he couldn’t disappear (another thing I think about is how, especially during Ghostbur’s first few weeks of existing, he drank invisibility potions all the time. He always had some on hand, he was always brewing them, and he frequently drank them. It was like he was trying to make up for the fact that he couldn’t turn invisible on his own. He was just trying to be what he thought a ghost should be 😭)

AND I THINK ABOUT THIS!!! Really the only truly “ghostly” aspects about Ghostbur were his name, the greyish color of his skin, and his voice (ANOTHER NEAT THING!!! Ghostbur could alter the way his voice sounded!! Most of the time he chose to sound like a normal human being, but other times he’d make it have an echo or a reverb. It’s such a neat little thing that he can do!!) and also the fact that he can die over and over again and always come back. Ghostbur canonically died three times, and for two of those times he came right back. The only time he truly died—and never came back—was when Dream used the revival book on him.

Ghostbur was truly. doomed. Everywhere he went he was misunderstood. He couldn’t be like the ghosts he read stories about, he couldn’t be the man who’d lived before him, he couldn’t be the dad Fundy needed, he couldn’t be the son Phil wanted. Even when Ghostbur told people that he was being misunderstood, even when he told people that he wasn’t Wilbur, even when he told people that he didn’t want to be called by Wilbur’s name, he was rarely listened to. He was often brushed off or looked down upon.

Canon should’ve been kinder to Ghostbur and he should’ve been treated better & understood better by the people he interacted with, and it just makes me upset. There’s not much respite to be found in the fandom either; many people misunderstand Ghostbur in the same ways that the other characters in DSMP did.

It really genuinely upsets me a lot because Ghostbur is such a good character! He has so many layers, he’s so complex, he’s so much more than what he looks like on the surface, he’s so much deeper than anyone gives him credit for. And hardly anyone seems to know that :(

In short, he is such a complicated little guy and I will defend him until the world ends he is so very special & important to me <3

First of all. I love that Mammon's initial motivation for all of the following shenanigans is "business deals." Like... my man, do you even hear yourself?? And then how his whole pitch is that he's holding up the economy? I wouldn't have accepted that nonsense from anyone else, that's for sure.

And let's be real, Asmo's assertion that his beauty makes other people happy was also something I let slide due to my affection.

What can I say, I love both Mammon and Asmo so very much.

I mean, to be fair, financial security is definitely nice and certainly reduces stress. So he's not wrong.

I will say that the non key route was once again a complete disappointment. You don't even find out what happens at the end?? It's just them being like, oh yeah? We'll see who wins! And then it ends. So you don't actually see who wins at all unless you play the keyed route. Sometimes the non key route is okay, but for other events it's pretty pointless. This was one of those.

Aside from that, though, I quite enjoyed this event. It was sufficiently hilarious, courtesy of the other brothers being their usual selves.

MAMMON IN THIS EVENT THOUGH.

We already knew that when Mammon wants something, he will work hard for it. This is further evidence of that because he chooses Lucifer to teach him ON PURPOSE knowing full well that Lucifer will not go easy on him. And then he steps up to the challenge!

However, I quite liked how Asmo wasn't a slacker, either. He wasn't like oh I'm pretty so I've got this in the bag. No, he chooses Barbatos and also works hard to get himself ready.

And like despite EVERYBODY expressing how they don't think these guys are gonna get anywhere, they both bust their asses anyway.

Asmo is not having it, guys.

Have some faith, Lucifer.

I'm pretty sure this was the only thing Luke said in this event, but he didn't hold back, huh?

BUT THEN.

That ending.

Sir. I'm going to need you to stop being so cute. My life depends upon it.

I think you could say that while they ended up being twin princesses, neither one of them would have won without the other. I think it was the fact that both of them sacrificed their own chances in order to help the other that caused them to win. Because doing something like that really demonstrated the nobility that they were looking for in the first round.

It's just more proof of how the brothers truly care about each other. Even if they argue all the time, when things get serious they can count on each other.

Can I tell you how excited I was when Asmo was ready to go run down that demon with MC? I liked that he was so badass about it and just kind of kept brushing off MC when they were like aren't you late for the show?! Can't you let me handle this?! And he was just like nope, I won't stand for any demon smearing my brother's reputation like that.

I really think they need to let Asmo be a little more evil. Like yes, he's beautiful and he has perfect skin, but he will absolutely kick your ass and he won't even break a nail doing it.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this event. I really need to go back and play the other Dame event on Lonely Devil I just haven't gotten to it yet.

alright so i was legit taken aback by his voice in Kings Dead because effects and filters and whatnot aside his voice sounds like BROKEN GLASS. its so crazy interesting to me how does he do that. hes giving me synesthesia like what.

he sometimes increases his accent and it feels like gravity tripled in force. when he hits that put the wrong label on me flow in not like us i scrunch into a little ball like crunched paper.

OH OH ok so in his older songs kendrick mostly raps in that nasally voice or just normal but when you watch interviews he SPEAKS in this voice i can only describe as a chainsmoking air conditioner, its both deep and cold (?) and the examples in songs would be backstreet freestyle or fuckin problems verse. love that voice. i imagine he was pushing his voice into that because its not like that anymore but damn its got such dimension, coming straight from his chest.

OH H OH FUCKK one of my favorites is also The Recipe voice, kendrick hits that one aggressive flow and SOUNDS like his voice is trying to beat the shit out of you. ladies its not my fault that its 80 degrees and my top peeled off. damn he sounds so hot in that yeeesh.

"Grace" - Jeff Buckley

𐐪♡︎ɞ┈₊˚ The album “Grace” by Jeff Buckley happened to be my great discovery. I’ve never heard much about it and only got introduced to it thanks to my research on the greatest albums of all time to listen to.

Here in this post, I will share my point of view on the aspects of the album that I’ve found interesting. This music is objectively great, and I won't be talking much about the reasons for it. Instead, I will focus on specific details that built my affection for it.

︶︶♩ৎ I would like to begin with the one thing that I especially loved here. It was the main feeling — tender, genuine, so nice, kind, and polite. This music sounds intelligent, graceful (lol indeed), and pure. To me, honesty is the main purpose of a piece of music and at the same time the greatest reward for it. Overall, the qualities chosen for this album are shining through it in a truly beautiful and rejoicing way. The colors, by the way, to my synesthesia, are different pastel shades, sometimes along with darker (but not harsh) shadows that make soft and warm contrasts.

Speaking about honesty, there is another thing here - it is how close Jeff's vocals feel. He managed to create this precious intimate feeling, and it was maintained in all songs - even more tense ones. In those, actually, this feeling only blooms brighter.

︶︶♩ৎ Along with the emotional depth, there is profoundness in the organization of sound — arrangement. It was a pleasant surprise to me from the very first compositions. I enjoyed thinking about it and coming back to listen to it again. Precise and gentle melodies on guitars, rhythms that support so nicely in emotional moments, and sophisticated vocals - a somewhat perfect picture, isn't it?

! I also noticed how modern pop music naturally recreated tendencies from this album. It was a really interesting realization. “Grace” is a complex music, yet easy to like and comprehend. I find it amazing that people took the light sense of self-awareness from here and executed it in a manner that was for many others to relate to.

It is a really, really great piece of art — one of those exceptional and iconic works.

︶︶♩ৎ You know, the one thing about "Grace's" story that truly amazes me is that Jeff's favorite artist Jimmy Page positively commented on the quality of this music. Like, imagine your favorite musician liking your work!

"Grace" honestly feels like a historical event, and it probably is. I hold a great respect for Jeff Buckley. His intelligence, sensitivity, and honesty helped to create an artwork that is for sure capable of changing lives.

𐐪♡︎ɞ┈₊˚ It is impossible to elaborate on all the aspects that made this album what it happened to be in a post of such length. Yet I did, indeed, love this music, and it was a great time for me to reflect on some of its details.

firstly - I do have a true detective tag! and a rust cohle tag! and a rust x marty tag! and although I don't have a distinct tag for meta & such, I infuse most of my reblogs with an insane amount of unhinged raving in the tags, so, lmao. it's def there if you want it! XD

secondly - there is actually a lot I can't say without you having seen the last episode, in particular the way the show ends. one of the things I love is the fullness of their arc(s) and the way they're changed by the end, for which you gotta see how it wraps up!!!

all that aside though... man. why I love this show is almost too big and amorphous to answer lol, but I'll give it a shot!

I mean... one obvious variable is Rust himself. I am so endlessly compelled by both the tragedy and the potential of him. by thinking about who he used to be - when he had Sophia, when he had Claire. he tells Papania and Gilbough that the job didn't make him that way but that being that way made him right for the job, but was he always that way? was he always a lonely jaded cynic, a product of growing up in the Alaskan wilderness with nothing but his imagination and his synesthesia to keep him occupied? is his nihilism baked into his DNA or was it carefully constructed after a lifetime of being abandoned and disappointed, used and discarded? the thing about him is that he wears that nihilism on the surface, almost like a badge of honor, but there is always this pervasive sense that he is in a state of grief for the things he no longer allows himself - love, desire, softness, comfort, hope. he has made himself into this target for other peoples' pain and bullshit because it slides right off him, so he might as well, right?

like, the whole thing with Crash... that REALLY fucks me up. episode 4 is actually my favorite, and Crash is definitely a huge part of that. he accesses a whole different part of himself to inhabit that person. you can tell that during his time with the Iron Crusaders, he was like... their pet. fed drugs and passed around, used and abused, all for the sake of "the job," but it so clearly was a way to exercise self-punishment, an excuse to remove himself from polite society and just give in to his baser nature. when it came time to put Crash back on, he donned him like a second skin, confident to the point of mania, in a way that breaks my fucking heart. I could go on and on about Crash tbh, it almost warrants its own post lol.

and then there's like, the way he has somehow both no relationship with his body and yet a strict routine for its upkeep. he keeps the engine running (or at least he did, for a while) but he doesn't allow that body so much as the dignity of sleeping with a bedframe. he doesn't use it for pleasure, he barely knows how to control it when he's not using it for his job. and yet, every single thing about his physicality compels me. his slouch. his gait. his little mouth noises. matt mcc I can take or leave, but I think Rust specifically is one of the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen or ever will see.

okay... let me move on to Marty. Marty is fucking fascinating to me. he's a bastard and an asshole and a hypocrite and I think so much about the way insecurity rules his life. he makes all of his choices based on what he thinks he should want, what kind of man he thinks he should be, and he will delude himself to the point of absurdity in order to realize that vision. (it's why, in my headcanon, comphet plays a huge role in his relationship with Rust and with himself, but that's another story.) like, Marty doesn't actually want to be a family man lmao, but, he has to want to be one. where Rust has given up all illusions of being any sort of person at all, Marty has made pointed decisions about what kind of person - what sort of Man - he is, and that's that. so, nothing slides off him, because everything challenges his fragile sense of self. he overcompensates, he's a product of generational toxic masculinity - by all accounts he's a total stereotype. but like... that's what makes his relationship with Rust so goddamn irresistible.

there's just so much going on there, constantly. Marty claims not to want to get to know Rust, but he can't stop digging and prying, and his protests about what he finds are so... performative. he can barely show up for his own family in the most basic of ways but he's constantly bringing Rust food & coffee, voicing concern about the way Rust lives, trusting him, vouching for him - he cares. so much. and because there's no road map of Expectations to dictate that care, he never becomes suffocated by it. and Rust, despite himself, can feel all of that. it is no small thing for Rust, the eternal lone wolf, to have a partner. he most definitely knows Marty thoroughly - knows when he's lying to himself, knows when to call him on it and when not to. for Marty, he makes a space. carves a notch into the solid rock of his soul and reserves it for Marty alone. after their split, he never really recovers. neither of them do. Rust never fixes his taillight, Marty lets everything dissolve once and for all and spends years alone with his microwave dinners, because what's the point? what they felt when they were together, what they had, was incredibly profound and deeply beyond articulation (they're not willing to do it, even if they could.) and it is truly in the finale that you see the veracity of that change, what means to unexpectedly reclaim the thing that changed you.

anyway, this was just sorta a stream of consciousness, not particularly considered and very off the cuff, and therefore barely skims the surface of why I love this show. I'm sure I'm leaving out so, so much. and of course, it doesn't even touch on the baser reasons I love it/them - I love stories about bitter washed-up old men!!! I love the idea of what they could mean to each other! theirs is some of the only fic I've ever cried at or reread. their happiness, their future, is so ridiculously important to me. and I love the music! and the southern gothic vibes! and Rust's scraggly long hair and his insane mustache and how good he looks in that black shirt when he takes Marty to the storage locker!!! I love that from that first episode, the moment Rust showed up at Marty's door plastered and crying, I knew I was done-for. I mean. y'know?!?!?!

5. Rare headcanons you love?

i'm sorry i don't pay enough attention to fandom to actually know what hcs are common or rare or exist at all Lol. so i will just say a random hc i have that i think is uncommon and that i like. which is that. uhhhhh. i literally canft think of any off the top of my head. tobirama autism + ocd let's go. oh wait and my headcanon shown in bodyswap fic where madara has some kind of synesthesia induced by the sharingan that translates things he sees into phantom noises, which lends itself to his frequent comments about dancing (also one of his jutsus at least in uns has the phrase "loud singing" in it. he loves the arts he's so adorable. if he wasn't born in wartimes this idiot would be part of a traveling group of entertainers or some shit)

9. Character you hate fanon versions of, but love the canon version?

oh boy. deidara numero uno from back in the day. but to be fair a lot of the akatsuki got shafted in early deviantart naruto fandom days. also every male character can fall victim to "generic dom-adjacent sex fiend" characterization and every female character can fall victim to "generic demure housewife/concubine" characterization so i don't count those that are always floating around

19. What kind of story would you never write?

this one's hard because 1. i am open minded and 2. i love to take things that are usually cliche or even that i hate/think are boring and twist them into something i think is more interesting. there's obviously like. kinks i'm not into for example but i wouldn't say that's a "kind of story". some of my least favorite tropes though are high school and zombie apocalypse aus so i am the least likely to write either of those. the latter could happen as some kind of subversion though (it would depend on how "zombie" is defined)

We got our more detailed medical records and guess what we have. You won’t fucking believe this.

First of all, we have several instances of being described as “not having a personality”, “hearing voices”, “identity confusion”, etc.

We have one letter stating various things we’ll pick out. We’re replacing our legal name with Halcyon and fixing the misgendering btw.

“Halcyon’s main areas of concern were that people do not accept that he has experienced trauma in the past.” They said this because I told them they were ignoring and not helping at all with the trauma.

“Following an extended assessment, it became clear that Halcyon’s difficulties are complex, not least because they are inflicted by Autism, which leads to very concrete thinking.” This was said because I wouldn’t take “we’ll treat you before we even consider diagnosing you/learning about your symptoms/treating you like a person” for an answer.

(HERE’S THE BEST ONE) “Halcyon’s sense of himself is very unintegrated, which leads to splitting off feelings and emotional states and giving them names and personalities, which Halcyon experiences as independent of himself.” Uh-oh! Someone’s describing a system! -_- Unintegrated identity, huh? Wonder what that could be. Nothing comes to mind /sar

They also openly call others in the system “personalities” in the letter btw. MPD? Never heard of it lol. /sar

Psychosis and “serious mental illness” was ruled out. I guess I’m demon possessed then.

They tried to say I (🌸) created them to help me “gain an understanding of how/why we developed this view of myself”, which was funny because I’m not the original host.

The second letter: S is my other, non-NHS therapist, btw. I don’t want to share her name here

“S fed back that she had started some solution-focused work with Halcyon around accepting Halcyon’s view that he has multiple identities and using and developing his strengths within these to help him move forward and achieve his goals.” This is just sceptical-talk for S has been talking to us like people and actually addressing the issue instead of pretending it’s “autism hallucinations” or whatever the fuck CAHMS are doing. You’d think this would be a good thing, no? A therapist is helping a trauma victim heal from their trauma and achieve goals in their life without fear or pain! Well, CAHMS has other opinions. CAHMS says…

“Halcyon seems to be more engaged in this way of working with S, rather the work being more about trying to challenge the existence of different personalities.” That’s right; because S isn’t encouraging me to drive the system to panic and possibly death again, it’s “not working”. Because S is doing her job and actually helping in a way that didn’t cause us to split 60+ times (I’m not even fucking joking), she’s wrong. CAHMS “method” literally almost caused me to go dormant, several near-deaths, months worth of doubt to the point where I was fucking banned from fronting because multiple of us including myself were so dangerously close to fucking up our own life permanently, and accusing us of being created/imaginary/hallucinations/lies/etc. And guess what, NONE OF IT WORKED!! I don’t understand why they keep trying to disprove it when everything they’ve done has failed, and they’ve by definition alone almost diagnosed me with DID already!! We’ve been so much happier dealing with this shit alone tbh.

S has been our main therapist for over 5+ years. We’ve been seeing her since we were 12. Our old host told her about the system before I even existed. Of course we fucking trust her, she’s known us for longer than any of the doctors at CAHMS, and she’s also just better at her job honestly (in more ways that just related to this).

Also CAHMS had a few comments about our C-PTSD. Apparently we:

Don’t have PTSD, but we do have…

Traumagenic synesthesia (which isn’t a thing)

Traumagenic gender dysphoria (trauma started at age 6 and we came out as trans at 3 so either we’re a time traveller or someone’s crap at their job)

And Traumagenic homosexuality! No, I am not fucking joking, this is in my actual literal medical records!!

Oh, and also developmental trauma, which is the CAHMS way of saying “yeah you have C-PTSD but we don’t wanna call it that bc we don’t wanna treat you”.

They also claimed that autism causes auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) and identity confusion (alters). Gotta love 60+ year old doctors who haven’t done any catch-up courses, am I right?

So yeah, CAHMS is a joke.
