This post goes into most of it better than I could, and the rest is a combination of leftover pettiness I've had with a lot of fandom takes surrounding him, especially those that are sns-centric, and of genuine grievances with the canon writing, ESPECIALLY in the War Arc where he's just stopped being interesting and is just there to spout quotable inspirational one-liners, making him incredibly annoying as a result.

something i love about hashimada: the range of potential dynamics both for silly lighthearted antics (like their canon interactions as kids) and Heavy Drama (everything that came after that.)

something i hate about hashimada: hm. i will forego the obvious "i happen to lean away from whatever ship is most immediate" because that's just a tendency of mine. i don't hate hashirama or think he's lying about caring about madara or anything but i feel like he could have put in more effort to actually try to keep him around and make him more comfortable. i think village era hashimada outside of aus/canon divergence is probably my least favorite aspect of the ship

something i love about madatobi: ough. two men who just do not fucking mesh and even in a perfect world would never form a perfect relationship, not even in that "opposites attract" way that people fawn over. i think whether it's straight up toxic hateship or they reconcile (which i think is only truly possible in aus where izuna lives) the ideal relationship dynamic for them is that outsiders looking in either can't believe they're together or are actively anticipating a breakup at any moment.

something i hate about madatobi: when people characterize them as generically sappy and loving and try to handwave the fact that these are absolutely not the same characters by offhandedly mentioning that they used to hate each other (or by mentioning the sharingan a few times JUST SO U KNOW..... DON'T FORGET THIS IS MADARA UCHIHA NOT THE GENERIC ROMANCE MAN I'VE WRITTEN HIM TO BE)

as far as something i dislike about the actual ship separate from fanon though hmmmm....... must we address the gigantic woolly mammoth in the room that is tobirama's attitude problem towards uchihas lmao. personally i find developing him to be a fun task so i don't mind starting at a disadvantage (and people seem to forget that tobirama readily admits that there are good uchihas and that he liked kagami)

i'm fr struggling to think of one…….. i think i'm the one who overthinks what other ppl will/do think of what i post so i either over-explain it or just don't post it. i also haven't gotten a sense until recently of what people outside of my friend circles think of my stuff, and even then, there rlly aren't many comments abt it. i suppose this ends up being some kind of affirmation of this imagined idea i have of my stuff, which is that it's just not that deep (even when i'd like it to be). i'm not very good at integrating symbolism into things i create. maybe that's smth i can practice buuuuut. ig we'll see over time hehe

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Madara's official appearance happening and character arc unfolding at the same time as the War Arc...

Also I know I've bitched a few times about people thinking he's a misunderstood revolutionary, but I also genuinely think if by the War Arc Kishimoto hadn't decided that from now on, the Power of Friendship was going to fix all the more complex political elements in his shoddy worldbuilding, then we could've had a Madara motivation that was less stupid than "The world is exactly like my depression tells me". I think that character trait of his is still interesting enough to think about, but it also really does reflect the massive downgrade the manga went through regarding the handling of its more political elements. Madara could and would have committed regicide if Kishimoto remembered the Daimyo were a problem 😔

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Reminding me of when my twitter dn was "ethical Madara kinnie", lmao. I do relate somewhat to his inflated ego fuelled by everyone in his environment during his developmental years telling him how much of a talented, special little boy he was. The difference between us though is that I eventually grew out of it.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

At first I honestly didn't care about him much beyond thinking of how cool he was, and having the same opinion as the dudebros who mostly only care about powerscaling him all the time, except I was also a hashimada truther. Now he is my beautiful princess with a disorder.

Personally I just wouldn't put Madara in a top 10 Naruto villains list (well, I wouldn't be mad if you did, but only if you put him at the very bottom of the list) because despite him having an incredibly memorable introduction, and has more fun, badass moments during his fight with the 5 Kage, that's just. Kind of where the fun ends. Really doesn't help that his villain motivation is what drives literally the worst arc in the series and is incredibly symptomatic of Kishimoto having just given up.

Naruto doesn't have a shortage of villains who have grievances against the system in place and are trying to destroy it but because of the aforementioned, Madara's iteration of it is so painfully stupid it's actually so frustrating. While I have no problem with him being power-obsessed and trying to change the world without some self-introspection on that, it's very possible to have him do that without whatever the fuck the infinite tsukuyomi was and for Kishimoto to actually use the tools he already had on hand with his established worldbuilding to come up with something better. But whatever, Kishimoto not knowing what to do and fucking up his story as a result is old news, whatever.

Madara is a significantly more interesting character to think about within the context of his backstory in the WSE rather than when he's Light-Yagami-On-Steroids in the war arc. He is still kind of fun though, so I understand why everyone forgives it. I mean, I do. But I don't think "being kind of fun sometimes" is enough to be a truly excellent villain.

i honestly don't know. yakuza destroyed my perception of overrating a character by burying the bar underground any time they introduced a "badass" character with a kansai accent who ultimately turns out to be Nothing so any character from any other series pretty much gets a pass from me

about which thing. abolishing the current system and making the world a better place? yeah

3. were naruto's intentions with sasuke selfish?

was A Teenager wrong for trying to "rescue" a kid he related to who he knew had no friends or family in his corner? get real

4. are the romantic undertones between naruto and sasuke intentional or accidental?

i genuinely think they were not intended to be romantic despite all odds (including but not limited to official animators drawing yaoi of them)

6. what makes the Naruto ending bad?

the sudden introduction of kaguya is the objective answer i think. could have easily skipped straight from finding a way to kill madara to the last naruto vs sasuke fight and been good, BUT!!!!! as a boruto fan i love that otsusuki nonsense so kaguya walked so urashiki my beloved (filler character) could run etc

7. should Naruto have become hokage ?

narratively speaking it was literally the goal of the series from the first chapter/episode so it was inevitable and baffling to argue against. however i do think it would have been Pretty Fucking Cool to turn those expectations on their heads and let naruto and sasuke reach an actual compromise to change the ninja world for the better by abolishing current systems rather than just. they beat each other up until naruto gets his way

please i love the idea of her so much. merely shittily written thank you. i don't think she even needed to not be in love with sasuke but i think she would have been a much more interesting character if she had to come to grips with the fact that he's not the same person she loved and fight him head on if only in the same way naruto does (trying to get him to come to his senses and come home). but that would require kishimoto to actually utilize his female characters

11. is Itachi a martyr, a victim, or a perpetrator?

moot point considering he was one of many victims of kishimoto's retcons. he was a perpetrator and then retconned to be a martyr and victim both. even his design got retconned so he had to randomly put his headband on wrong in a more detailed massacre flashback instead of that being an iconic look for the character as what seemed to be originally intended lol

12. who should've died in war arc?

guy surviving makes no sense but i'll allow it. no idea what the point of ohnoki still being alive somehow even into boruto era is. obito should have lived

13. was kakashi trying his best? / was he a "good" sensei?

two different questions. kakashi was in fact trying his best but "good sensei" is a complicated question. are we talking about creating the best possible child soldiers? because that's the in-universe idea of a good sensei. either way, you can roast kakashi for shrugging his students off to the sannin but acknowledging his own limits as a teacher and recommending additional teachers is what i would consider a good quality. also he is blatantly depressed so [points back to the "trying his best" part of the question]

openings is this even a question. haruka kanata, GO!!! (the fighting dreamers one), and hero's come back have special places in my heart.

for the last time the uchiha are not a separate race they are literally just a ninja clan. tobirama as well as every other senju aside from hashirama (who is the exception and was never supposed to be the rule) harbor a grudge against the uchiha due to their families clashing in war for a fucking bajillion years. tobirama in particular, as stated by the man himself, treats anyone he sees as a potential threat with "extreme caution" and there is no reason for any senju to not categorize the uchiha as such

17. Is Sakura useless?

does kishimoto hate actually utilizing her as anything but a victim of sasuke's Whole Shit? yes. but she did have that cool forest of death moment and the sasori fight at least. and conceptually her being a Super Healer is useful as hell. society if sakura was better utilized

i'm sorry i don't pay enough attention to fandom to actually know what hcs are common or rare or exist at all Lol. so i will just say a random hc i have that i think is uncommon and that i like. which is that. uhhhhh. i literally canft think of any off the top of my head. tobirama autism + ocd let's go. oh wait and my headcanon shown in bodyswap fic where madara has some kind of synesthesia induced by the sharingan that translates things he sees into phantom noises, which lends itself to his frequent comments about dancing (also one of his jutsus at least in uns has the phrase "loud singing" in it. he loves the arts he's so adorable. if he wasn't born in wartimes this idiot would be part of a traveling group of entertainers or some shit)

9. Character you hate fanon versions of, but love the canon version?

oh boy. deidara numero uno from back in the day. but to be fair a lot of the akatsuki got shafted in early deviantart naruto fandom days. also every male character can fall victim to "generic dom-adjacent sex fiend" characterization and every female character can fall victim to "generic demure housewife/concubine" characterization so i don't count those that are always floating around

19. What kind of story would you never write?

this one's hard because 1. i am open minded and 2. i love to take things that are usually cliche or even that i hate/think are boring and twist them into something i think is more interesting. there's obviously like. kinks i'm not into for example but i wouldn't say that's a "kind of story". some of my least favorite tropes though are high school and zombie apocalypse aus so i am the least likely to write either of those. the latter could happen as some kind of subversion though (it would depend on how "zombie" is defined)

JKFDSHKJFHDSKJKSFDJ Understandable! Honestly, I'm going through my Naruto tag, and I feel like I posted less of him than I spent time thinking about him on my own, tbh. My Obito brainrot did not reach the levels of "and now everyone following me has to be subjected to this" but maybe it's bc at the time I was diversifying my Naruto posting purposely bc I didn't have internet constantly as I do now.

Also I don't think I ever thought of him to really analyze him... I was mostly just playing with him like a mind doll, and putting him in situations I'd like to see him in.
