Waking up in a body bag had not been in Duke's plan for the day. Or for his life, once you died than you were dead. Expect he'd dead before, not that he wanted to remember that

He hadn't even been out for patrol, it wasn't a villain that took him out. It was a city bus going 50 miles over the speed limit that plowed into the sidewalk. Fifteen minutes later he was gasping for air inside a musty black bag and fumbling for the zipper.

"Mr Wayne, your foster son is going to need more tests run. The medics on the scene declared him dead on arrival, I can find no medical explanation for this."

Duke was connected to wires a lot of them. Sitting up in a hospital bed, watching the confused doctor point at his chart. He didn't understand how to read all the charts and screens but he got the jest. He was dead, now he wasn't.

Bruce was standing a few feet away, still sending glances his way. Disbelief, mixed with pure relief at the fact his son was alive. Bruce raised a hand waving away what the doctor had said.

"The medics were clearly wrong, they put him in a body bag! My family had already been informed he was dead by the time we got to the hospital. But he's sitting there with only a broken arm."

The doctor floundered, taking a step towards the door clearly unsure what to say. "We're sorry for any distraught this caused your family Mr Wayne, but-"

The man stopped talking as if sensing this was a dangerous conversation. He set the chart down at the end of Duke's hospital bed. And fled the room quickly. Not bothering to say another word before slamming the door shut. He was probably afraid of being sued, most people would be.

Duke watched as Bruce let out a sigh, he looked worried. He'd never seen Bruce like this before. He was Batman, the brave protector of Gotham. But the worry seemed to fade away as the man let out a loud laugh.

"Of course none of my kids stay dead!" The man say sitting down at the end of the bed. "Chum, you better not pull that again."

Duke didn't say anything just staring at his own hands. Well one hand, and one sling keeping his broken arm strapped to his chest. He was dead, he'd been dead not even two hours ago.

It wasn't the first time it had happened. He'd tried to fly once as a kid, with a blanket as a cape. His mom had found him laying on the concrete outside head bent to the wrong side, only for him to be okay an hour later.

Hesitant words came out of his mouth. "I don't- What if I can't die?"

Just as the words fell out of his mouth the door had been thrown open. His siblings had clearly been fighting on who got to enter first. That had stopped the second he spoke though

.Jason was standing closer than the rest, a grimace easy to see on his lips. It was as if he was personally offended by this."You don't think you can fucking die? No, that's not happening. I'm the one who was dead, thats my title not yours."

Friendly reminder that Percy jackson - our beloved silly adorable seaweed brain - is absolutely terrifying. When he’s angry, when he’s scared, when he’s on edge - he’s not warm and fuzzy.

No other character gets that reaction from people. Jason (the sweetie) is perceived as calm and in control, nico (our favorite self-outcasted outcast) is perceived as solemn and creepy, reyna (girlboss queen slay) is perceived as confident and assertive, and annabeth (our girl) is perceived as fierce, clever, and formidable. They are all intimidating to an extent.

But not like Percy. No. Becasue even when he’s at ease, he’s described as wild and disobedient. And when he’s not at ease, even if just little bit, he’s perceived as powerful, dangerous, and scary. Someone who NOBODY wants to mess with. Nobody even questions his power. One look from him has literal gangs running the other way. One look from him has Leo so scared that he’s literally shaking, and feeling the same innate fright and alarm that he does when jason summons an ear-piercing, earth-shaking, deadly bolt of lighting.

like… HELLO??? can we all just sit on that for a moment?? good lord

One angry look from percy has people thinking one thing: Run.

Percy is, canonically, the character that people find the most frightening and intimidating.

And unless he’s in a good mood - which you better hope he is - the reality is that most of us would be completely terrified of him if we met him.

percy had an 'im a big three son' moment when he choked a goddess with her own saliva (controlling a fluid that was INSIDE her body) annabeth was terrified.

nico had an 'im a big three son' moment when he disembodied bryce lawrence (quite literally dissipating and shrinking his LIVING soul into a spirit) and threw him to the underworld, smashing his zombie warriors. reyna was terrified.

yet we were robbed of jason's 'im a big three son' moment where he sucks the air out of someone's lungs and makes them stop breathing, or damaging a person's nervous system with his lightning control, and literally cause internal bleeding, or a damaged/fried skull if he electrocuted hard enough (look up the effects of lightning damage on body y'all will get a whole list, tbh he doesn't even need lightning to do any of this, air control is more than enough since air takes charge of everything going inside the body, but this is just an added effect.) he could give people STROKES if he wanted to. he's the literal definition of burnt out kid who was suppressed from discovering the magnitude of his abilities, because one, his dad's ego wouldn't be able to handle it, two, because he, for some reason, can't be allowed to do anything other than get knocked out :/

also adding on, hardcore pjo fans know that after the ending page of boo, there's this fan story that rick chose to publish in the last few pages of the book where a fan reimagines the ending of hoo, in that work, annabeth collapses from an attack and percy sobs clutching her body. jason calmly asks him to step aside, and kneels before annabeth, jason regulates her breathing using his wind/lightning powers and brings annabeth back fully from her cardiac arrest, causing percy to be relieved. (I wanted to link the pics of the pages here so bad but I didn't have the hard copy of the book with me, and this isn't available anywhere online either, only in the original covers of boo uk and us version, so I edited this post and asked people to reblog this post w the pics if they have the hardcopy, and a kind blogger found the story I'm talking about and reblogged the pictures of the pages, you can check my reblogs of this post for the pictures of the almost all the pages after this scene) considering rick approved and even liked the fan's work well enough to publish it in the official boo book, I'd say rick was aware and never completely ruled out expanding jason's abilities and had them in mind, he simply didn't incorporate it into the books. (also W fan for giving jason the rep he deserves, I will always remember you, you saw the VISION before any of us did, the story was very well written, with great dialogue.)

DCxDP where Danny moved to Gotham to escape Amity, and decided to become an EMT to fulfill his obsession, since he’ll be found if he tries to go out as Phantom.

He encounters the bats as both civilians and vigilantes, and they’re consistently amazed (and suspicious) of his ability to survive things that by all means should kill him, and to save others in the process.

Still, despite their suspicions (or maybe because of them), several of the bats befriend Danny, and make a point of making sure he’s doing okay during larger scale threats to Gotham.

Still, they never have any solid proof of anything abnormal about him until one of the bats dies in action.

It doesn’t really matter much how it happened. Maybe they suffocated on smoke, maybe they drowned, maybe they were beaten or strangled or shot. What matters is that they’re definitely dead, and they’re not getting back up.

…Until, that is, Danny removes his gloves, rubs his hands together, and uses the little control he has over electricity to force their heart to start to beat, their lungs to expand and contract. Until he uses a thin sheen of ice to cover their more serious wounds, and helps the bats at the scene to move them to the Batmobile.

Maybe, perhaps, Danny’s cover as a normal civilian was blown after that.

Maybe.
