Sweet Tooth
Homelander x GN! Reader
Summary: Homelander is a regular customer at your little coffeeshop, visiting anytime he craves something sweet - you, in particular. Warnings: Canon-typical violence, cussing, HL is horny and also a douche Words: 1,575
"Seriously, Y/N? Who the fuck drinks a milkshake at 8am?"
Ah, there he is. You almost got worried because he ran late today.
"What are you, five? Grow the fuck up." That said, the gruff man in front of you pulled out a few loose dollar bills, cheekily slamming them on the counter. "One for me too, please."
You smirk, putting the cup down after slurping it in one go. Ouch, brainfreeze. "Good morning to you too, sunshine."
That's what he likes most about you: Finally someone that can take a fucking joke. People he usually surrounds himself with are either afraid of him, or got a damn stick up their asses.
Communication wasn't really his forte without someone dictating the lines he'd have to say. But with you it came refreshingly easy, that back and forth was so enjoyable that he almost felt human.
"Coming right away" you chant, already busying yourself with the ingredients. "With how often you're ordering this drink, I should name it after you."
Homelander snorts at the well-deserved mockery, unable to keep his mouth shut since you look so adorable when irritated. "As you should, considering I basically fund this place."
"Hey!" you put a warning finger in the air, lighthearted voice earnest now. "I can tolerate a lot, but that's no joking matter."
Okay, the location you were able to afford was neither central nor in a remotely good part of the town. It was so small that there was only space for two tables, and the interior honestly decaying.
But at least it was honest work, and you did the best you could.
"With the new Starbucks across the street I'm basically bancrupt." Oh godfuckingdamnit, he fucked up. Homelander here to unwind, and certainly not to listen to you whining about your insignificant little life.
Maybe Vought should send you a check, though - losing this spot would be annoying.
Initially Homelander came to your café out of sheer coincidence, wanting to calm his nerves after his first encounter with Sister Sage. He took a longer stroll through some shady alleyways, hoping to run into some lowlife to rip apart...
...instead, he found you. A pathetic excuse of business and surely not even remotely close to achieving the American Dream, but whatever.
John had found himself entranced with the cheesy decoration, a desperate attempt to make a place like this feel cozy. He secretly admired people with the ability to make anywhere feel like home.
Well, the menu looked good enough that he decided to treat himself with something sweet as matter of exception - and now it had become part of his daily routine.
Things had just settled like this, with you offering him your sincere company while he'd cryptically vent about anything on his mind.
"Here: For my favourite customer!" you cheered proudly as you presented him the shake. "Made with extra love."
"Secret ingredient, huh? You're just nice to get an extra tip" he tries to hide the insecurity behind a sassy remark, but you instantly parry his claim. "What, why, because you're so generous? Nonsense. You're just lucky you're so cute."
It was no lie, really. John had a rough shell and wore his heart on his tongue, but you appreciated his honesty and the good conversations you shared.
As you were rummaging in the kitchen counter, he couldn't help but notice how you turn down the radio despite continuing to hum the song it was playing. He once told you about having misophonia, and how much he hates modern pop music. You actually listen to him, consider his feelings unlike the imbeciles he's used to.
"Woah, maybe tune it down with the sugar, darling" he thought aloud as you poured yourself a coffe. Damn, he needs to save himself after this one - but the only thing he comes up with sounded more like a backhanded compliment at max. "You're already sweet enough, don't ya think?"
"Charming as always, I see." Your face contorts into a mixture of confusion and amusement at his words, and feeling bold you turn around, giving a provocating slap to your own ass. "As long as the fat goes into the right places."
John bites his bottom lip at the sight of your tight leggings framing your curves too well. Yeah, that'd be a great place to dig his fingers into. Some cushion wouldn't bruise or make you whine if he'd become a little rougher. Shit, his pants feel awfully tight right now.
"You're staring." Seeing him being the flustered one for a change sure was a great feeling, considering that he was very aware of his own good looks. So you decide to get him off the high horse, playfully poking his soft belly. "Also, you're one to talk."
Homelander shifts on the barstool, closing his legs so you wouldn't notice his cock twitching in anticipation at the sudden proximity. God knows how often he had daydreamed about slamming you onto the next best surface and fucking you stupid.
"You really shouldn't be mean to someone that could spit in your drink." He smirks, a predatory glint in his eyes as he leaned forwards until his unfairly handsome face was just inches from yours. "Joke's on you - I'd savour every last drop."
The audacity. You physically fight rolling your eyes at him, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of reacting. "Sometimes I think you're the most obnoxious person in the world, John."
Liar, he thinks to himself.
Nothing is hidden from his abilities, neither your raised bloodpressure nor the scent of the wet spot forming between your legs. He prided himself on that fact. And yet you stand there all taken aback, trying to play coy. Cute.
Well, it wasn't as if you had no interest in him. He's been coming here for weeks and you're still working up the courage to at least give him your number - but he was so incredibly out of your fucking league that you never considered actually going through with it.
Homelander on the other hand decided he had let the opportunity slip for way too long already. Except for both of you the shop was empty as always, and even if it wasn't he wouldn't care. Hell, he'd already imagined what it would be like pounding you naked against the display window to show every passenger who you'd belong to from now on.
"John, I-"
"Shh" he hushed you, his silencing finger lingering on your lips. You pulled away, just to be caught by a firm hand on the back of your neck. "Tell me if I should stop - but we both know what you want me to do to you."
Oh, he's insufferable.
Honestly, you should just slap him and tell him to go fuck himself - but a primal need had already shut down the rational part of your brain. "Damnit John, will you kiss me now or do I need to fuck that shiteating grin out of your face?"
Shit, what's not to love about you?
"Hands up in the air you two shitheads, this is a robbery!"
Un-fucking-believable.
While you immediately went into panic mode, seeing a weapon up close for the first time in your whole life, John nonchalantly leaned against the counter, an aggravated groan escaping his throat. "Dude, worst fucking timing."
"John, don't provoke him-" He threw a hand up in the air, signalizing you to be quiet. "Stay behind and let me handle this, sweetheart."
You nod quietly, John shielding you with his body as you shakily paced behind the counter. A shot was fired and you shrieked at the sound, apparently the criminal wasn't exactly patient or he just didn't like your customer's tone.
"John! God John, are you alri-" Your words got caught in your throat as you saw the shell fall to the ground. Must be the adrenaline clouding your view, but there seemed to be not a scratch on his body. He winks cockily at you before turning around, using the lasers in his eyes to make a quick end to this before you'd involuntarily get caught into the crossfire.
"So, is the drink on the house or what?" The hero jokes unfazed after just having spread literal brain matter on your tiles.
You were still trembling when he squatted in front of your cowering self, reassuringly patting your back. This shit is like second nature to him, and sadly the little empathy he possessed had dulled over time. "I told you to stay down, silly."
As soon as you've calmed down to a certain extend, you pulled your savior's baseball cap from his head, revealing disheveled blonde hair.
"Are you the fucking Homelander?!"
"Can't deny that after what you've just witnessed" he answers truthfully, offering you a hand to get up. "Took you long enough to figure out, though."
Your strained pants turned into hysterical laughter, probably due to the shock. "I-I honestly have no words."
That means he wins today's banter, he jubilates internally. You could've been a little more thrilled about the reveal of his identity, though - but hey, you can show him your gratitude later on.
"Thank you, I guess." You finally release the breath you were holding, tension leaving your body as you collapsed into his arms. Police sirens could already be heard fast approaching. "I- could you please bring me home after the investigation is over?"
"Sure" he tries to hide his excitement, cradling your exhausted self against his chest. "If you don't mind, I'll take you to go."

Harry and yn and there two kids on holiday and fans come up to them and harry asks them to respect there privacy and all that?
Caribbean Privacy.
my masterlist || ask my anything <3
my blurb masterlist is here !!
authors note - first blurb of 2024 people and it’s based on the brand new photos we got, so enjoy my loves.
word count - 1.7k
in which, you and harry decided to go for a little family holiday to start the new year off on the right foot, and went to a caribbean island, where your just trying to enjoy yourselves, and spend some quality time with your two children, when a couple of fans spot your husband.
As the first light of the new year streamed through the curtains, you woke up to the sweet realization that your partner had planned a surprise holiday to the Caribbean.
The joy in your heart was mirrored in the excited expressions of Kai, your energetic five-year-old, and little Lexi, who had just turned six months old. The promise of sun-soaked beaches and turquoise waters made the early morning hustle of packing bags and herding the family to the airport an adventure in itself.
Arriving at your tropical destination, the sound of gentle waves and the warmth of the sun embraced you. The resort's palm-fringed surroundings set the stage for a family retreat filled with laughter and cherished moments.
The holiday would be lasting a total of two weeks and so far the four of you had been there for four out of a possible fourteen.
The first day was spent chilling and getting the kids into a routine, the second day was filled with sunbathing and the third day you took the kids to do some activities so that they wouldn’t get too bored.
It was the afternoon of the fourth day at the resort, for a majority of the morning you had all gone for a walk, trying to get your bearings of where you were going to be staying.
It was nearing one pm now, and the four of you were making your way to the hotel outdoor restaurant, where other families, friends and couples were currently sat, all decked out in summer clothes just like you and your family were.
The rhythmic roll of the stroller, carrying the enchanting Lexi, created a soothing background to the lively atmosphere. Harry, with Kai perched on his shoulders, exuded paternal pride as his son's tiny fingers playfully explored the newly sprouting hair after a recent buzz cut.
The infectious giggles from Kai echoed through the space, forming a symphony of joy that seemed to harmonize with the clinking of cutlery and murmurs of other guests.
Just moments later, a courteous waiter approached, exuding the charm of the Caribbean hospitality.
"Good afternoon! Can I start you off with some drinks?" he inquired with a warm smile.
Harry, with a chuckle, ordered a beer for himself, emphasising that it was a well-deserved vacation treat.
Kai, his eyes sparkling, announced proudly, "Chocolate milkshake, please!"
You joined in, opting for a refreshing mojito to complement the tropical ambiance. The waiter, noting down the orders, promised to return shortly with the concoctions that would add an extra layer of delight to your family gathering.
The backdrop of the restaurant's tropical charm provided the perfect setting for a moment of connection.
"This surprise vacation was a brilliant idea," you remarked, a smile playing on your lips.
Harry, his eyes filled with satisfaction, responded, "M’figured we all needed a break, and what better way t’start the year?"
Kai, still perched atop his father's shoulders, chimed in, "I like the beach, Mommy! Can we build a sandcastle tomorrow?"
His enthusiasm was infectious, prompting laughter from both you and Harry.
"Absolutely, buddy! We'll build the biggest sandcastle the beach ‘as ever seen," Harry promised, ruffling Kai's hair.
November 2019, you gave birth to Kai Robin Styles, at a home birth in yours and Harry’s London home.
As the conversation continued, you found yourselves reflecting on the year that had passed and the excitement of what lay ahead.
“ ‘Member when Lex was just a tiny bump?" Harry mused, glancing affectionately at your baby girl. "Now look at her, enjoying her first vacation. Time really does fly,"
You had gone into Labour with Lexi Anne Styles after Harry’s Show in Warsaw, the birth wasn’t very traumatic but the fact that you have birth in the backstage area of a stadium add a million different stress levels.
The waiter returned with a tray of drinks, delivering a frothy beer for Harry, a velvety chocolate milkshake for Kai, and a refreshing mojito for yourself.
The clinking of glasses marked the beginning of a shared toast.
"To family adventures and new beginnings," Harry proposed, raising his beer.
It wasn’t long before you had placed your food orders, and then it was back to chit chatting.
Lexi began to express her hunger with soft whimpers from the comfort of her stroller. Harry, always attuned to his children's needs, suggested, "Looks like someone's ready f’a meal. How about I feed her?"
Agreeing with a smile, you watched affectionately as Harry gently lifted Lexi from the stroller. With practised ease, he retrieved the pre-made bottle from the baby bag. Cradling Lexi in his arms, he began a tender dialogue, showering her with words of endearment.
"Yknow, Love bug, y’the most perfect baby in the world. Mom and I are so lucky t’have you," he whispered, his words infused with a genuine warmth that mirrored the love you both felt for your little one.
As Harry spoke to Lexi, your gaze shifted to Kai, who was deeply immersed in coloring his book. His tiny fingers danced across the paper, creating vibrant strokes that mirrored the lively atmosphere of the Caribbean surroundings. The restaurant transformed into a canvas of family moments — the quiet focus of an older brother, the nurturing presence of a father, and the unspoken connection between mother and daughter.
Amidst the lively ambiance of the restaurant, you couldn't help but notice a group of girls at a nearby table who seemed to have recognized your husband. Whispers and excited glances were exchanged among them, and you could see them mustering the courage to approach him for a photo.
Sensing their intentions, you leaned in to Harry and discreetly warned him about the approaching fangirls.
Harry, with a resigned sigh, glanced over his shoulder and nodded.
"Just ignore ‘em, love. It happens," he reassured you, his eyes reflecting the weariness of a man accustomed to such encounters.
The prospect of being in the spotlight, even during a family dinner, was not a new experience for him. Grateful that your kids were facing away, oblivious to the attention, you both focused on enjoying the moment together as a family.
As the girls behind you worked up the courage to approach, you and Harry engaged in casual conversation, attempting to divert attention from the brewing fan encounter.
"Remember that time in Paris?" you teased, trying to lighten the mood. Harry chuckled, because he knew exactly what you were talking about.
"Good times," he agreed, sharing a smile with you, appreciating the effort to shield your family from the attention that occasionally came with his public persona.
“H, there definitely coming.”
Harry, glancing over his shoulder, nodded in acknowledgment.
"Yeah, I see them. Just give them a friendly smile if they approach, and I'll handle it. S’not let it bother us," he suggested, his voice carrying a hint of resignation.
He was no stranger to such encounters, having navigated the challenges of fame before. The weariness in his eyes reflected a desire for a quiet family dinner undisturbed by fan interactions.
The restaurant buzzed with activity as the group of excited fans approached your table.
"Harry, we're such huge fans! Can we get a quick photo and an autograph?" one of them eagerly requested, holding out a notepad and a pen.
With a gracious smile, Harry acknowledged their enthusiasm.
"M’grateful f’your support, but at the moment, we're trying to have a quiet family dinner, so I won't be able to do autographs right now," he gently explained, a polite refusal delivered with a sense of understanding.
Despite his explanation, the fans persisted, urging for both a photo and an autograph. The atmosphere at the table shifted as Lexi, nestled in Harry's lap, started to express her unease with a few whimpers.
Sensing his sister's discomfort, Kai moved closer to your side, seeking comfort in the familiar presence of family. Harry, noticing the subtle disruption, addressed the fans with empathy.
The fans, eager to capture a moment with their idol, continued to press for both a photo and an autograph. Harry, maintaining his composure, gently reiterated, "I really appreciate y’support, but right now, We're just trying t’enjoy a family dinner without any interruptions."
The fans, realizing the impact on the children, paused for a moment. Harry, sensing the need to reinforce the boundary, continued,
"Thanks for understanding." His words were delivered with a blend of gratitude and a protective instinct for his family.
As the fans reluctantly stepped back, a mix of disappointment and understanding painted their expressions. Your family returned to the rhythm of your evening, attempting to reclaim the sense of tranquillity that had been momentarily disrupted. Lexi, still cradled in Harry's arms, gradually settled, comforted by the familiar presence of her parents and brother.
Harry, with a reassuring smile, turned his attention back to the dinner table.
"Sorry about that, m’love," he whispered to you, the gentle apology carrying the weight of the delicate balancing act that came with his fame.
"It's alright," you responded, understanding the complexities of navigating public and private moments.
Kai, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, looked up from his colouring book with a curious expression.
"Why did those people want pictures, Mommy?" he asked, his innocent curiosity breaking the momentary tension.
You looked down to his eye level, offering a simple yet honest explanation, "Sometimes, people recognize Daddy from his work, and they want to say hello or take a picture because they really like what he does."
Harry, appreciating your delicate handling of the situation, chimed in,
"That's right, buddy. Daddy's work makes people happy, and sometimes they just want to share that happiness with us."
Sensing his sons discomfort, Harry gently ushered him over, placing him on the other side of his lap.
"Hey, Kai, come here, sweet boy," Harry said softly, creating a protective space for him. As Kai nestled in closer,
Harry continued, "I want you t’know that no matter what happens, Daddy will always keep you safe. Those moments might be a bit strange, but we're a team, okay?"
Kai, his big brown eyes searching for reassurance, nodded in understanding. "
Team," he echoed, a small smile breaking through the remnants of unease.
Harry wrapped his arm around Kai, holding him close to his chest.
"Exactly, little man. We're a team, and nothing will ever change that," Harry affirmed, his voice a soothing melody of love and comfort.

?: Listen skank.
Dan: God..?
?: I found a hair in my burger and I need you to refund it for me. Also make me another.
Dan: The hell you think you’re talkin’ to?
Kai: Hai.
Dan: Bitch! I thought you died!
Kai: Nope, just life. Work. College. The usual.
Dan: Hmph. Let’s go sit.
Kai: Wait, aren’t you on the clock?
Dan: Yeah? Who gives a fuck? And if they do, I’ll punch ‘em.
Kai: DAN!
Dan: Meh, it doesn’t matter. I have news.
-
Kai: Holy shit, congrats!
Dan: It’ll be nice working near the bay. The company sounds pretty great too. 401k, free admission to the aquarium, and healthcare. First time in my life I’ve ever had that. Wild.
Kai: I’m happy for you! Who else knows?
Dan: Uh, just you, Frances and Atlas. I’ll probably tell the others at the record store soon. Gotta keep them up to date with the lore.
Kai: Ah. Have you told your dad?
Dan: No-uh.
Kai: I see.
Dan: I want to tell him, I really do.
Kai: So what’s stopping you?
Dan: Ugh, feelings. Don’t make me talk about them right now.
Kai: Fine! We can talk about something else.
Dan: Let’s talk about you.
Kai: Naur.
Dan: Si. Where’ve you been loca?
Kai: [ cackles ] I hate you!
Dan: I’m sorry! You seem so… Different. Confident, maybe?
Kai: I didn’t realize. I dunno, a lot’s happened.
Dan: Like?
Kai: I slept with someone. Well, multiple people, actually. Taryn knows I like men. About Atlas, too. Speaking of which, there’s no fixing that.
Dan: What the fuck.
Kai: [ chuckles ] I’m surprised you took all of this for confidence.
Dan: I mean, you seem to be holding up better than I expected.
Kai: I feel hollow, Dan. Like everything’s wrong but I gotta accept it.
Dan: You can change it.
Kai: Maybe, but the way I left things with Alex-
Dan: Alex? Who?
Kai: He’s a good person and I… Took advantage of that.
Dan: What’d you do?
Kai: The night of the party. I told Atlas how I felt. Subconsciously I mean. It all sorta slipped out. I wasn’t really planning on it but he said some things. Well, we both said some nasty things. I was angry. He said that I knew nothing of compassion so I called Alex. I called him and I proved Atlas right.
Dan: Kai…
Kai: I felt so ashamed after sleeping with him. Using him to mask the rejection I felt. He didn’t deserve that. I’m such a shitty person.
Dan: Don’t go there.
Kai: It’s so hard not to.
Dan: So you made a mistake-
Kai: Several.
Dan: Everyone fucks up. There is not one person I’ve met that has done everything right. Look at our friend group. Complete mess but I’d like to think at the end of the day we’ve got each other. Regardless of flaws, it’s always been us.
Kai: I miss it. All of us. Together.
Dan: I do too, but we’ve all got shit to sort out, yeah? Why not give yourself the space to do so as well.
Kai: Sure.
Dan: And stop calling yourself horrible, got that?
Kai: Maybe.
Dan: Bastard.
Kai: How are you gonna tell me to be nice when you do this shit?
Dan: I never said I was perfect! Want me to grab you a milkshake?
Kai: Hell no, you said you never clean it.
Dan: PFFT- Valid. I’ll grab you a soda.
Kai: Hey, wait.
Dan: What’s up?
Kai: Thank you for taking care of us.
Dan: Someone’s got to.

⋆。「 Affection Prompt 3 」⋆˚
◉ Sinopsis; Buying them something unrequested because it made you think of them
◉ Feat; poly Stolitz, M&M, Fizzarolli
── ˙•˚∘✮🌙ᯓ🪐˙•˚∘ ──
Busy days for you were always the worst. Work, chores, errands- it all just meant you had to decline the invitation to the mall your partner(s) extended to you. Fortunately, while they're out, they find something that will hopefully cheer you up- and be a nice reward for your hard work.
Of course, it was Stolas' idea to take you and Blitzø to go out shopping. To their dismay, you had housework and errands to catch up on. Stolas insisted you join them and worry about the work later, but you assured him that you had no problem with the two going to the mall without you.
For a couple hours, the two navigated the labyrinth of stores and although Stolas and Blitzø were having fun together, your presence was missed very much. Throughout the day, they would catch sight of little things that reminded them of you. A plush here, some wall art there... and as much as Stolas wants to, he knows buying everything that reminded him of you maybe wasn’t the most viable option. Blitzø, on the other hand, is way more eager to spend. Instead of extravagant gifts, Blitzø settles on little knick-knacks that make him think of you. Maybe a few buttons or keychains, a cheap figurine- something along those lines. Stolas eventually settles on a jumbo-sized version of a plush you’d pointed out to him a while back.
Back at your apartment, you hear the screeching of tires coming into the lot. Ah. Must be Blitzø. Not long after, a loud, rapid succession of knocks paired with an annoyed “let us in” (and a quieter “Patience, darling”) at the other side of your door.
┊┊┊✧ ⁺ ⁺ °
As disappointed Moxxie and Millie were that you couldn’t join them in going to the mall, they knew it was important to give you space to finish work and have some quality time for yourself. Of course, if you hadn’t insisted you needed the alone time to focus on your assignments, they wouldve just stayed with you.
While Moxxie and Millie were at the mall, they agreed to find a gift or two- seeing as you were working so hard, it only made sense you deserved a little something. Most of their time was spent at the food court, where they shared milkshakes. As is customary, Moxxie serenades Millie with a love song. Afterwards, as they’re wandering, Millie spots something- a blanket, hanging in one of the store windows. But it wasn’t just any blanket, no. It had a beautiful design with your favorite colors, and, Millie noted, it was quite large… perfect for all three of you to snuggle under.
When they arrived back at your shared space, Millie ran in, jumping onto you, while Moxxie hung back to close the door before joining in on a group hug. Safe to say, y’all made good use of that new blanket.
┊┊┊✧ ⁺ ⁺ °
Fizzarolli had meant to surprise you with a fun date… unfortunately, his timing wasn’t the best- he’d unknowingly picked a day where you had to prepare a presentation for work. Because of Fizz’s… talent (of being a major distraction), you’d said you’d prefer if he gave you a few hours to yourself.
While somewhat dejected, Fizz understood- he was just so amazing, how could you not look at him? No big deal, he reasoned. He would take this time to treat you (and himself). While he’s at the mall, Fizz takes advantage of the massage chairs and pop-up boutiques. With freshly manicured nails and rejuvenated muscles, Fizz went off to your pay a visit to your favorite stores. It doesn't take him long to find something- well, multiple things. He decided on a new bag for you, and of course you have to put something in the bag. So he got self care supplies; face masks, nail polish, and a new spa headband.
Knowing you've had a busy day, Fizzarolli was hoping you'd be receptive to a self-care night. The relieved sigh and eager hug from you served as a pretty clear "yes."
After a long day, a surprise gift from your partner(s) was just what you needed.

HELL YES WE NEED MORE CHALLENGERS WRITERS IN THIS WORLD!! >:33
so happy to see more fic writers, anyway can I request Artrick x reader and prompt number 8 pls? could be smut or fluff idgaf
-🎶
Thank you so much for your patience!! School has been so crazy but I’m back and so excited to keep writing! Requests are still open :)
8. “Looks like we’ll be trapped for a while…”
You wake up slowly, blinking the sleep from your eyes and burrowing down further under the blankets to escape the chill of the room. Patrick has an arm over your waist and his head against your chest, snoring softly. When you look to your left, Art has turned over to sleep partly on his stomach, leg hitched to the side. You reach a hand out to comb through his blond hair. He doesn’t stir.
A glance at the clock tells you it’s 5:32am. You’ve woken up an hour before you needed. The boys have matches today, and you came along to cheer them on. You decide that they deserve a nice breakfast and work on extracting yourself from Patrick’s hold. He huffs, pulls you closer into him and raises his head from your chest to the crevice of your neck. His lips puff hot breath there.
“Pat,” you whisper endearingly. You wrap an arm over his shoulder to brush his hair back from his forehead. He grunts. “Gonna make breakfast,” you tell him, and his grip slackens. He kisses over the pulse point in your neck twice, then lets you go. When you crawl over Art he peeks an eye open at you. You press a kiss to his cheek with a whispered apology. Patrick is pulling him to replace your warmth within seconds.
You cut up some fruit, scramble eggs, and whip up protein milkshakes in the small kitchen in your hotel suite. Art enters just as you’re finishing, pops a strawberry into his mouth and holds his empty hand midair in the space in front of him. You lean in to lick the fresh fruit juice from his thumb.
His lips quirk to the side. “Thanks for breakfast, baby,” he says and his voice is still rough with sleep. It makes your belly flip. He sits in a bar stool, offers his hand to you which you take and let him pull you to him. You cup his face and press a sweet kiss to his lips. He turns your frame so you can lean against the inside of his thigh and you both pick at the food on his plate, sharing sips of his milkshake. His hand rubs soothingly against your hip, under the big t-shirt you borrowed from Patrick.
Patrick joins you not too long after, gives chaste kisses to the back of your neck and the side of Art’s head before grabbing his own food. The three of you eat in comfortable silence until there’s a crack of thunder, making you turn your head to the large living room windows. It takes seconds before the sky opens up in a downpour.
Like clockwork, Patrick sees the notification: matches postponed due to inclement weather. “Looks like we’ll be trapped for a while,” he says, smirk forming on his face. If you don’t climb back into bed for cuddles and back scratches, what’s a rainy day for? And if you get a little handsy, just to hear Patrick curse and Art whine, who could really blame you?

Disneyland trip – Dawson Mercer

Sitting in the passenger seat, your leg bouncing from the excitement of visiting Disneyland. It has been your dream since you were a child, but your parents were so busy arguing your whole childhood, that they never took you there.
Your childhood wasn’t bad, but neither was good. Your weekends were spent in your room, as you played with your toys, or you were out with your friends.
Now sitting here, twenty-one years old, with your hot ass boyfriend driving you to the Disneyland in Anaheim. His hand resting on your tight, the other one gripping the steering wheel as he hums in the rhythm of the song playing on the radio. You look over at him, a loving smile forming on your lips as you place your hand on his, squeezing it.
“Thank you, Dawson,” you whisper not wanting to interrupt the pleasant silence. Dawson looks over to you, a small smile on his full lips.
“Every time, babes. You deserve the word. And I’ll do everything to give you one.” He brings your entwined hands to his mouth and kisses your every knuckle. Your cheeks redden at his words and action a quiet giggle escaping your lips. “We’re here baby.” He points towards the areal, your eyes catch the sleeping beauty castle. Your eyes light up with excitement as you bounce on the seat slightly, Dawson laughing at your excitement.
He parks the car in the empty parking space killing the engine. Before you can open your doors, he’s holding them open, helping you to get out.
“Here you go, princess.” He bows in front of you with a laugh.
“Idiot.” You giggle, closing the doors behind you. Dawson cages you between the car and his warm hard body.
“But yours baby,” he nuzzles his nose in your neck inhaling deeply. He loves how you smell. The sweet smell of your perfume and your body scent. “Only yours.” His eyes meet yours, his head bending down to connect your lips.
“Okay, let's go! I want to see everything.” You push him away after a while, almost running to buy a ticket. To your surprise, there are not many people waiting in line, so after ten minutes of waiting you and Dawson finally get your chance to buy the tickets. When the lady tells you the price, you pull your card out to pay for it only to be met with Dawson’s mobile on the payment terminal. You pour your lips, frowning at him, but you don’t say anything. With a smile and goodbye, you take the tickets finally walking towards the entrance.
You don’t what to look at first when you get in. There are so many things you want to see, but you know, you don’t have the time to see everything. You intertwine your hand with Dawson’s tugging him to the first thing you want to see. The Sleeping Beauty castle.
After an hour of walking around Disneyland, you’re having a small break to get some food and drink. You’re sitting on a bench in front of Critter Country, waiting for you to get on another attraction the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh. You’re holding a milkshake in your right hand with the left hand, you’re going through your bag to get some napkins out for you two. You look over at Dawson, who’s holding two big hotdogs in his hand, one halfway done as he chews on his bite. You took your hotdog from him, taking a bite by yourself, groaning at the taste.
“Uh, stop it!” Dawson says immediately, looking around. “That sound is only for my ears, love.” He says so seriously.
“I’m sorry, babe.” You giggle swallowing your bite.
“S’Okay, but hurry up, so we get in the house as soon as possible, okay?” Dawson stands up, and stands in front of you, shielding you from the sun. You look up at him your eyes are squinted from the light.
“Thank you.” Your words are muffled by the food in your mouth. Dawson nods his eyes, sipping from his drink.
When you’re done with your food and milkshake, you finally make your way inside the section. You’re currently walking over the human Winnie the Pooh when Dawson lets go of your hand. Not caring you keep looking around you in awe. But when you turn around after a few minutes, Winnie is in front of you, down on one knee, and in one of his hands is a black box. Confused you look around looking for Dawson. Of course when you hear his laugh, from the costume, tears sprung in your eyes.
Dawson takes off the head, a wide smile on his lips as he’s looking up at you, sparkle in his eyes.
“Y/n we’ve been together for five years and not once I doubt your love and mine. I knew the first time I saw you dancing in that bar I knew you would somehow change my life, but I didn’t expect you to change it so much. The night I met you, my life turned from black and white into a spectrum of colors and I’m so glad for it. You taught me how to love myself, and how to be grateful for every win and loss because losing makes me stronger and wiser. Y/N I LOVE YOU MUCH. And as Leo vowed to Paige, ‘I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once-in-a-lifetime love,’.” He stops for a while to take in breath before he finally says the four words. You are already crying like a baby from that speech. Because fuck…you know how much he hates this film even though you love it, and he remembers the phrase. “Will you marry me?” his voice is now shaky, his hands opening the box revealing a silver ring with ruby in the middle of it.
You start nodding your head not trusting your voice. But when he stands up you let out a sob with a laugh. “Yes, yes, yes. I’ll marry you.” You hug him around his neck, pulling as close as it’s possible. Applause interrupts around you, making you two pull away. You laugh at the people watching you, some even filming this. You look at Dawson again, kissing him so passionately he stumbles backward laugh escaping his slips.
“I love you so much,” he whispers on your lips, hugging you tightly in himself. “Wanna try the ring on?” he whispers in your ear pulling away from you slightly.
“Yeah.” You nod your head wiping the tears away. Dawson takes the ring in his hand sliding it on your ring finger, your eyes welling up with tears over again. “I love you, Dawson, so much.” You choke on your sob.
“And I love you, baby. So fucking much!” he dips his head down, kissing you softly with a smile on his lips. “Let’s go enjoy the rest of the trip.” He pulls away looking over to a guy who was probably in the costume before him. He strips from it handing it to the guy thanking him.
The rest of the day, you couldn’t keep your eyes from the ring sitting on your finger, feeling so happy for the man who placed it on.

tim grew up being shoved into a box, and being a people pleaser
so he will genuinely sit and be uncomfortable if he thinks it’s what’s supposed to happen
and no one ever really notices, as this was how he’s always been, until dick takes tim to batburger and they get milkshakes
—-
Tim frowns at the cup, full of a freshly made milkshake, whipped cream, and a cherry. The teen takes the cherry and gingerly eats it, clearly making a face of disgust.
“You know you don’t have to eat that if you don’t want to.” Dick says with a sideways grin. Tim cocked his head.
“No? But wouldn’t it be a waste? You just spent money and took me out after a rough night. And I know you used your own cash and not B’s. I can’t waste this.”
The older vigilante let his smile drop into a small frown, looking out to the skyline. “I know, but a little waste won’t hurt. Especially if it’s bringing you discomfort. Tossing a cherry isn’t going to hurt my feelings or my wallet. You deserve a space to feel safe and comfortable to have an opinion and a say, even over something as minuscule as a cherry.”
Tim frowned and took a sip of his milkshake. “I’ll…. I’ll keep that in mind.”
———
It takes a lot to break Tim out of the cycle of everyone else’s comfort. Soon he’s picking at his food and not forcing everything down.
He’s putting in his opinion for movie nights, and suggesting recipes to Alfred.
Tim’s also now giving his input to Bruce, and taking initiative on patrol and cases, even solving a few old cases the dark knight couldn’t crack.
He’s grown a lot, shoving and pushing at the sides of the box that was hand crafted around him until it collapses.

steddie established relationship argument (mild on the actual arguing) under the cut. ~1700 words. cw discussion of having kids. no teaser because it starts out kind of E rated lol
also on ao3
“Pretty baby,” Eddie said, nose in the back of Steve’s hair, dragging against his scalp. “You’re so sweet, you were so sweet with Emily earlier.”
They’d been playing with Nancy and Jonathan’s 3-month old for the first time.
“Oh yeah?” Steve said, grinding the swell of his ass back against Eddie.
“Yes,” Eddie rumbled, lips against a shivery part of Steve’s neck.
After nearly a year of dating, Steve was used to this flavor of praise from Eddie, but it still worked to calm something deep inside him. And it was exactly because he did feel calm that he said, “So do you finally wanna talk about it?”
Eddie made an inquisitive sound into Steve’s skin.
“Eddie. You know,” Steve said gently, holding himself still. He thought if he played his cards right he might be able to get Eddie to mess around a little, ask him if he wanted to get a baby put in him, that sort of thing.
But when Eddie just kept frowning into Steve’s neck Steve went on—“Kids?”
“Uh huh. What about them?”
“Come on,” Steve said, squirming and then flipping over when Eddie let up. “You know I want kids, right?” He said it softly, because of course Eddie did know.
Except Eddie froze, just a little, and the whole thing began to feel decidedly unsexy. “Uh,” he said, a notch too loud for the situation.
“Okay, not right,” Steve said, mostly to himself. He’d thought, for sure, that he’d been making no secret of it.
“I mean,” Eddie said, trying to recover. “I totally, yeah, I guess, I know you—like kids and everything.” He chewed his lip like he knew it was lame. Steve rarely saw him so wrong-footed.
“Well, yeah,” Steve said. “I do, but—like last weekend, remember when that dad was arguing with his kids about milkshakes? And I said I wouldn’t make a big deal out of a milkshake with my kids—what’s the point?”
Eddie sputtered. “Okay, that was a hypothetical! I thought! I just thought—and you never said—” Eddie shook his head. “Oh. Six little nuggets.”
“Yes, as you’re so fond of reminding me.” Steve rolled his eyes to show he was joking.
“But, Steve,” Eddie said, sitting up.
Slowly, not wanting to do it, Steve followed.
“I mean—what does this mean? You would want to, what? Marry a woman?” At least Eddie seemed baffled by it.
“Don’t be ridiculous. I mean I want to do it with you, obviously. Dumbass,” Steve added for good measure.
“With me,” Eddie said, not able to hide the way his eyes went wide.
“No, with Jonathan,” Steve said, annoyed. “Obviously you, man, who else am I in a serious relationship with?”
“Okay, Jesus, give me two minutes to catch up here!”
Guilt made Steve want to let him off the hook but he didn’t think he should have to, really. Steve frowned at his lap, feeling miserable and stuck. He had the unpleasant sense that this wasn’t going anywhere good.
“Is it really so bad?” Steve asked.
“I don’t know!” Eddie said. He stood up, paced restlessly to the opposite side of the room and back. He was wearing only a pair of boxers and he reminded Steve of a caged animal before he even started throwing on his clothes.
Steve sat quietly in bed as he dressed only partly because he knew it was the thing he could do that would annoy Eddie the most. And Eddie was the one who was leaving, he deserved it. He also did it because he really didn’t know what else to do. Begging Eddie to stay wouldn’t do any good. They both needed space sometimes.
“I don’t even—it’s not that easy,” Eddie said, picking up his wallet and then putting it down again to punctuate it. “It wouldn’t be that easy for us.”
“I get that,” Steve said carefully. “But I thought… it doesn’t have to be a baby. Maybe an older kid.”
“Steve,” Eddie said, looking almost choked up. “Can we—talk about this later?” His voice had turned brusque. “I just need to—clear my head.”
“Yeah, course,” Steve said, feeling stupid and vulnerable still in the t-shirt he slept in while Eddie was dressed. The fight had gone out of him. Eddie just needed to deal with the revelation in his own way. He’d come back. Steve owed it to him to be patient after, apparently, springing this on him.
Eddie paused at the door. “I do love you.”
“I know. You too.”
And then the door was shutting behind him. Steve’s fingers itched to call Robin but for the first time it felt so personal that he decided against it. It was personal for Eddie, too. It belonged to both of them, and, for right now at least, no one else.
Now, if Eddie wasn’t back by the morning, all bets were off.
Steve gave up on sleeping after a frustrating 45 minutes and resigned himself to sitting up at least until exhaustion won out with worry. And right now, worry was putting up a good fight.
Steve put the water on for tea. He wasn’t stupid—he knew that Eddie might not come back. Or, well, he’d surely come back to the apartment either way but he might not ever really come back to Steve after this.
They were serious about each other. A consequence of the years of charged friendship before they’d so much as kissed, maybe, or just a consequence of how well they usually worked together. They talked about spending the rest of their lives together. Something like whether or not they each wanted kids was a big deal—the kind of thing that changed things. Steve had given Eddie an ultimatum. Part of him wanted to backtrack, call Eddie up and say just kidding, I can be flexible about this. But he couldn’t, and besides, he didn’t know where to call (except for how, realistically, he knew Eddie was at his uncle’s or Jeff’s place.)
In the morning, Steve called Robin.
“Oh, babe,” Robin said when Steve explained it, her voice crackling just a little down the line from New York where she was always up early. “Did you sleep at all?”
“About four hours,” Steve admitted. He’d been too wound up for any more and he was sure as hell feeling it now, exhausted and eyes aching. He hadn’t cried, and he spared a thought for the fact that maybe he was kidding himself by not really examining the worst case scenario. “Do you think—I mean, obviously this isn’t a good sign. That he left. But do you think there’s a chance or am I delusional?”
Robin snorted. “There’s more than a chance. He loves you, obviously. But—yeah, he might decide he wants to end things. We know that’s an option.” She said it gently enough that now Steve did feel a little hot behind the eyes.
Today was a Sunday. Their only plans were hanging out with Jonathan and Nancy and Emily more while they were in town. If Steve had to go see them alone—
“I wish there was something I could do,” Steve said miserably. And then the front door opened and there was Eddie, close across the small apartment, looking a little out of breath in the yellow morning light that was pouring in through the window, too cheerful for Steve’s heavy heart. “Oh, shit, Rob, I have to go.”
“Is it—”
“Yeah. Love you.”
“I love you, call me, that’s a threat—”
Steve hung up the phone.
“Uh,” Eddie said. “Robin?”
“Yeah.”
“Hi, Robin,” Eddie said dutifully toward the hung-up phone.
“I’ll tell her,” Steve said, so giddy with relief that Eddie was back that the nothing joke made him want to laugh. “Hi.”
Eddie looked at him. “Hi.”
Steve took a breath. “I’m sorry. For bringing it up during sex, and all. That was stupid.” He’d been feeling guilty some more and that, at least, was a legitimate reason for it.
But Eddie just shrugged. “No, it’s…” He searched for the word. “You thought I knew.” He wore his hair short these days, and it looked like he’d been running his fingers through it.
“Yeah. Eddie, listen—”
“No, just—give me a second,” Eddie said. And then he was going down on one knee, pulling something out of his pocket and holding it out to Steve. It was a simple gold band. It looked well-worn, but it shone in the light.
He cleared his throat. “Steve, I—“ his voice broke. “I’m sorry I don’t have a ring box. I went to the pawn shop as soon as it opened and I didn’t want to wait for another place to—I love you. I got scared when you started talking about kids, because it seems so big. And I just didn’t realize you felt that way, even though, okay, I guess I should’ve. But the more I thought about it the more what really scared me was losing you. I love the idea of you as a dad. You’d make any kid so lucky to have you. I can’t believe you want to do it with me, but if you really do—I’m open to it. So—will you?”
“We can’t even get married, though,” Steve reminded him, perilously close to tears again.
“Psh,” Eddie said. “Fuck the government, I’ll marry you anyway.”
“Eddie, get up,” Steve said, and then the tears were coming. He swiped at his eyes while Eddie stood hesitantly. “Save it, okay? Save the ring. I don’t want it to be like this—to end a fight. I want it to be its own thing. And it’s too soon anyway. It hasn’t even been a year. But—” Steve grabbed Eddie’s hand before he could put the ring back in his pocket. “Yes. Of course I want to marry you.”
Eddie touched his knuckles to Steve’s cheek, pushed aside a tear. “Getting some mixed signals,” he said, looking between Steve’s eyes with his own so full of love it hurt to see. “I’m sorry. And for worrying you.”
Steve sniffed. “I was worried but—I knew you’d come back. I know you.”
“I know you do,” Eddie said. He was still holding the ring. “Do you want to at least try it on? You could wear it on a chain or something—”
Steve put the ring on, and he didn’t take it off until the day in Joyce’s backyard when Eddie held it safe in his pocket until it was time for him to put it back on Steve in front of everyone they loved in the world.

Absolutely wild to me that with all of DC's reboots/retcons no one has had the sense to completely erase the Arisia incident (and no, I do not count Johns' whole 'Hal thought it was creepy but then learnt that her planet rotates differently so she is actually 200' nonsense. It's probably the biggest stain on the green lantern franchise (followed by the Kalmaku nickname thing) and genuinely there is no benefit to it existing.
But importantly I don't mean erase Arisia. She is a character with a lot of potential as a little sister with self esteem issues, a child who has been conscripted into a literal galactic army and is honestly just trying her best. She's adorable and had a lot of potential before Englehart made it so disgusting I stopped reading his green lantern comics my I own sanity. And I do feel like while it definitely did tarnish Hal and his reputation (and lets be real, probably should have done so for almost every green lantern in that era except John) Arisia herself was honestly a lot harder hit with being hated and erased. Which is how a lot of comic controversies - and even real life abuse cases can - go. I feel like she honestly deserves a second chance to be explicitly and overtly removed from that uncomfortable and unnecessary arc rather than just being pushed aside so people can write Hal as a space maverick male fantasy (when will Spectre Hal come back from the war).
But like imagine an Arisia year one with me (wherein the writers and the corps aren't creeps):
Arisia is a young orphaned alien girl who is still grieving when she has the responsibility and powers of a lantern ring thrust upon her. While still trying to get a hang of her new powers she is called into OA where she meets the other Green Lanterns. She begins training and becomes the (actual) little sister/kid of the green lantern corps. Crucially no one is weird about her. I would probably make it so that her home planet values really strong familial ties so that as an orphan she is desperately seeking out a family in the green lantern corps, which clashes with some of the other members who initially see the other corpsmen as work buddies at most. In this when Hal and her hang out its because he's her mentor and he radiates cool uncle vibes.
And honestly you could keep the ageing up with the ring idea but instead of making it part of a creepy romance arc it could be used to further explore her own anxieties. Maybe she feels overlooked as a kid so decides to make herself look older to feel more powerful when on missions, but it eventually it makes her feel more self conscious about what she looks like normally. Then it ends with her learning to embrace and find confidence in who she really is. You know, classic coming of age stuff. And after that Hal and Jon decide to introduce her to the Teen Titans so she can be around other heroes (roughly) her own age.
So she ends up on Earth for while where you could have a fun fish out of water dynamic whilst she explores earth life in San Fransisco. Not only is she a member of teen titans as their GL (or Teen Lantern as they probably insist on calling her). She can have a whole side plot about making friends in her civilian identity and wanting to be a normal kid (milkshakes, diners, roller skating, baby gay crushes) while also knowing that at some point she has to go back to OA and to her home sector. Back there she has to embrace this massive responsibility (honestly too big for someone of her age) that she didn't choose, but that was rather an inherited burden from her late father and duty as a member of the corps.
Ultimately it would be about finding confidence in your own heroism, a found family, and having fun coming of age moments. And rescuing a promising female character from being an embarrassing footnote in DC (and Hal Jordan's) history.
DNI INTERACT IF YOU ENJOY HAL AND ARISIA AS A COUPLE. I DON'T KNOW IF THESE PEOPLE ARE REAL BUT IF THEY ARE, LEAVE MY POST/BLOG ALONE.
#arisia rrab#green lantern#green lantern corps#anti Steve englehart#he deserves a lot more hate for the plotline#I kept what happened with arisia deliberately vague but if anyone wants me to include a trigger warning anyway I will#I am also sick so sorry if this makes no sense#I will fix it later

Some e/riels really want to make Elain the mean girl that they are
Well, here goes nothing...
Let's get one thing straight: Elain isn't going to march up to Gwyn and start a hair-pulling, milkshake-throwing, passive-aggressive showdown. Gwyn hasn't done anything to deserve that treatment. She can't help it if both Az and Nesta treat her differently from Elain. Elain's issue isn't with Gwyn. It's with Nesta. And now, we're seeing Elain push back against Nesta's overprotectiveness, especially when she volunteered to search for the trove.
Some fans seem to want Elain to become this vengeful, "mean girl" character, shedding her good-girl image to match Azriel's demeanor. But Elain's version of "mean" could cut Azriel to the core.
There's a kind of meanness that comes with laying bare someone's flaws—not to hurt, but to finally express what's been bottled up for too long. There's a meanness in honesty, too. Sometimes, you have to draw the line and speak your truth, even if it stings.
People don't suddenly grow claws. They've always been there, waiting to be wielded when necessary. And in SF, it looks like Elain's reached that point, where others are deciding her truth for her.
Sure, some fans are hoping for a Villain Elain, but it's ironic how we're demonized for standing up for ourselves or wanting to take up space. I think Elain's journey will be more about asserting herself and saying, "I need you to hear me."
But Nesta cut her off, seething at the pity about to be thrown her way. “Look who decided to grow claws after all,” she crooned. “Maybe you’ll become interesting at last, Elain.” Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike. Elain’s eyes brightened with pain. Something imploded in Nesta’s chest at that expression. She opened her mouth, as if it could somehow be undone. But Elain said, “I went into the Cauldron, too, you know. And itcaptured me. And yet somehow all you think of is what my trauma did to you.” Nesta blinked, everything inside her hollowing out.
Azriel struggles with criticism—we've seen it time and time again. That's why I doubt Az and Elain could work out. Elain is starting to call people out, and Az tends to freeze up when confronted. If Elain were to challenge Azriel over his objections to her searching for the trove, would it lead to a productive conversation? Their conversations could easily turn icy, as we've seen with Feyre's orders to him as his High Lady.
But there's someone who handles criticism well—or at least, better than Az.
My nails dug into my palms hard enough to hurt, but I remained seated on the bedroll as I bared my teeth at him. “And that’s why you’re here. Not because it’s right and he’s always been wrong, but just so you can get what you think you’re owed.” “She is my mate and in my enemy’s hands—” “I’ve made no secret from the start that Elain is safe and cared for.” “And I’m supposed to believe you.” “Yes,” I hissed. “You are. Because if I believed for one moment that my sisters were in danger, no High Lord or king would have kept me from going to save them.” He just shook his head, the candlelight dancing over his hair. “You have the gall to question my priorities regarding Elain—yet what was your motive where I was concerned? Did you plan to spare me from your path of destruction because of any genuine friendship, or simply for fear of what it might do to her?” I didn’t answer. “Well? What was your grand plan for me before Ianthe interfered?”
Lucien faced Feyre's accusations head-on when they clashed over priorities. He didn't deflect; he engaged. He was ready to hash it out, even when Feyre wasn't. Lucien could have abandoned her, returned to Tamlin, but he stayed. There was no bargain between them, so he had a choice—and he chose to stand by her.
I'm eager to see a showdown between Elain and Lucien about their bond. How will Lucien react when Elain claims he's entitled to her? And how will Elain respond when Lucien says he's done all he can to stay out of her life?
It promises to be a cathartic conversation, especially now that Elain's been rejected twice—presumably because of their bond.

previous chapter next chapter
With the mall buzzing with life on the final day of June, Scoops Ahoy luckily wasn’t packed to the teeth with customers. The booths and tables had barely a handful of occupants, a couple sharing a milkshake, friends laughing and gossiping over their cups or cones in one of the corner booths, and a single mom with her child who was sloppily indulging in their sweet treat. People come in and out of the store with their desserts to continue browsing the giant structure.
Robin was stationed at the counter, scooping orders and ringing their prices. Steve was busting some tables in the lobby before his fifteen started, and you were in the back checking the inventory. Somehow you got bumped to assistant manager, a mystery still swimming in your brain.
Even with it being summer in Hawkins, you had to bring a nice sweater with you for every shift since you’ll most likely end up in the freezer for a few hours, jotting down what flavors are running low, what requires reordering and what flavors need to be pushed more. Sometimes when you run into Robin or Steve after leaving the ice box, the nickname you gave it, they’ll make a quick joke about your flushed cheeks or bright nose.
“Can’t believe I still make you blush after six months of dating.” or “Christmas isn’t for another six months, Rudolph.”
Just as you finished your inventory check of the night, the solid metal door slamming close behind you, Steve pushes through the swinging doors for his break. He threw the dirty rag and disinfectant spray in a bucket beside the sink, as you dropped the clipboard to the tiny table in the middle of the room and stripped your jacket off your shoulders.
“So, what’s the news?” Steve always asked that same question when you were done with your checklist.
“Uh,” you leaned above the paper, eyes squinting a bit, “need more strawberries, a giant tub of raspberry cheesecake is set to expire next month on the twelfth, and we need more rocky road.”
You sat in the chair beside Steve, head resting in your palm with your elbow poking at the tabletop. Your eyes were drooping, wishing so badly to just rest your head against your pillow and knockout. Steve must’ve noticed your tiredness, his eyes peeking into your view along with a poke to your free cheek.
“Tired?” You just nodded. “Was it another nightmare?”
You hesitated in answering but knew Steve would find out either way, “yeah. It involved you and Will. Wasn’t pretty. I almost called-”
“Why didn’t you?” He interrupted. “Steve, I didn’t want to wake you, plus, it wasn’t crazy horrible. I was just… just shook me up a little.” A truth and a lie.
He sighed, “(Y/n),” he took your chin between his thumb and forefinger and turned your attention to him, “if you ever have a nightmare, whether I’m in it or not, please just call me. I will come over without hesitation, you know I’m always looking for an excuse to stay at your place.” A gentle smile brightened his face.
“You know my mom is okay with you staying over.”
“Yeah, but I don’t want to overstay my welcome. Plus, Jonathan probably needs space from me now and then.” Their relationship was still a bit rocky, but Steve was constantly working on fixing it, and Jonathan was just… allowing it to happen.
“Speaking of staying over,” you twisted in your seat so your knees were touching, “wanna come over tonight? After last night, I could use my human body pillow.”
Steve laughed, “oh, that’s all I am to you? A body pillow?”
“Well, among many other things,” you started to lean forward, hoping Steve got the message with your action.
And just when he started to meet you halfway, lips inches from connecting, the front bell began to chime repeatedly. Instead of your lips meeting in a sweet, sugar-tasting kiss, your foreheads connected. Steve’s eyes closed and he breathed a sigh through his nose, while you rubbed your lips together to stop a smile.
“Hey, lovebirds, your children are here.” Robin’s teasing voice floated from the front counter through the sliding window.
Steve reluctantly pulled away and threw open the divider. He rested his right arm along the white counter while his left was propped up. From your seat, you could see Mike, Will, Lucas, and Max formed in their huddle.
“Again? Seriously?” He took a glance at you then back to the four, “(Y/n) could ban you idiots.”
“I could, but I do have a bit of a soft spot for them,” you cringed at the flabbergasted look Steve was throwing you.
And when it looked like he was about to say something, another ding stole the attention. Mike’s bored face stared back.
“Well, except for Mike sometimes.” You mumbled before you motioned for them to come to the back.
You opened the back entrance, and one by one they entered the long hallway. With Will being the last one out, you ruffled his growing bowl cut, “you want a ride home?”
He walked backward, front facing you with his back to his friends, “I’ll stop by after the movie and tell you.” He then flipped around and hurried to join the other three.
Steve walked out in the hallway, hands resting at his hips, “I swear if anybody hears about this-” “We’re dead!” They all cut him off. “Have fun!” You chimed in.
You both waited until they turned the corner and were out of sight before heading back to the store. Steve took the free opportunity to pull you into his arms, back flush again his chest with his arms wrapped tight around your stomach. His head dipped down so his lips lined with your ear, “I think I was promised something before we were rudely interrupted.”
A joyful smile took over you, “oh really? I didn’t know we were handing out prizes at work now.”
“Oh, yeah. Helps boost employee morale or something.”
“Morale? Didn’t know we were in need of boosting.”
The two of you continue your slow waddle into the breakroom, Steve not losing his grip.
“Well, me, I personally could use a boost.” He finally freed you from his tight grasp, just allowing you to spin so you were chest to chest.
“And what could boost your morale, Harrington?”
“Hm?” He hummed with a finger at his chin, really playing up his act, “Oh! What about a kiss from a lovely girl? And may the lovely girl be you, Byers?”
You copied his theatrical gesture, brows furrowed, eyes squinted, with a finger pressed to your pursed lips in fake thought.
“Why not,” you faked enthusiasm that Steve fully saw through.
Steve went with his signature kissing maneuver. His large hands rested on the sides of your face, pinkies resting just under your ears, while his thumbs swiped across your plush cheeks. You would either hold his wrist as you pushed to your tip toes or Steve would already be leaning down and you would hold him in place with your hands at his face or arms wrapped around his neck. Today it was the latter, Steve being very eager to get his kiss before something or someone could stop it from happening.
And when his lips melted into yours, a steady rhythm was building, with hands wandering from their original spots. And just before it could go any further, your bliss was broken by someone loudly coughing. The two of you broke apart and turned to the point of noise.
Robin had a disgusted scowl painted across her face with her arms crossed over her chest, “Harrington, I need you up front with me while (Y/n) goes on her break.” She turned to head back up front before twisting back, “and (Y/n), you promised to keep PDA to a very low minimum at work. For my pure eyes.”
“Sorry, Robs.”
She pushed the saloon doors open when the ring of the front bell went off. You gave Steve one quick peck to the lips before pushing at his chest, “you heard the boss, go help up front.” With that you separated, Steve was forced to do his job and you grabbed your wallet so you could get your dinner at the food court, also for Robin and Steve.
“Okay, so I’m gonna head to the food court, you two want anything?” You said with your head poking through the divider.
Robin and Steve were both helping customers so you waited with patience for them to respond to you. As you waited, you unabashedly watched Steve while he scooped ice cream, and as you were mesmerized by his biceps, the lights turned off.
“That’s weird,” Steve voiced before walking to the switch.
You and Robin watched as he flicked it on and off, continuing to mess with it even though it showed no results. Your heart rate was slowly picking up speed with the length of the lights being off.
“That isn’t gonna work, dingus.” Robin pointed out.
“Oh, really?” Steve shot back before going back to flicking the switch even faster.
Still, nothing was happening, and he finally stopped. You curled your nails into your palms, needing to feel something. Steve went back to flicking the switch, slower this time. And on the fifth time, when he flicked the switch on the lights returned to life.
“Let there be light,” and he went back to the ice cream.
Robin just glared at him before turning to you, “what a guy,” And before she could make a snide comment, she leaned in closer, “are you- are you okay? You look like you’re gonna pass out.”
“Yeah, yeah, just not a fan of the dark. Uh, you want- you want anything, from the food court?” Needing to change the subject quickly.
She looked at you with hesitation, but played along, “uh, Orange Julius. My usual.” And she turned to the register, Steve taking her spot.
“You want anything from the food court?” “A coke and fries from Burger King, please.”
With their orders, you left the shop to officially start your hour break.
…
You ate your pancakes and eggs in the slow morning quiet. Will was beside you as he leaned over and grabbed another pancake, but you smacked his hand causing him to drop it.
“What?”
“Save that for Steve. You got enough on your plate.” And you shoved a fork of eggs into your mouth.
You heard a door open and footsteps before Steve came into view at the end of the hall. You flashed him a smile as he took the seat across from Will, while he took the plate where the leftover pancakes and eggs sat.
“Thank you, Ms. Byers.” Steve’s voice was deep from just waking up.
She flailed a hand, “how many times do I have to tell you, Steve? You can call me, Joyce.”
“I’ll probably need a few more reminders before it sticks.” He chuckled and then reached for the syrup.
Soon Jonathan’s door cracked open and he was rushing out while finishing his buttons. Joyce rushed over to him, Jonathan slowing his steps. You noticed the faint lipstick kiss on his cheek, but no Nancy behind him.
“Wait up.” Joyce stopped him.
“Oh, no, I’ll eat at work. I’m late.”
“No, your cheek.” And she swiped at the makeup.
Jonathan moved her hand away, “all right, all right. I gotta run. See you later.”
“Tell Nancy she can leave through the front door next time,” you yelled before the front door shut with a slam.
“Ugh. Gross.” Will muttered as Joyce walked back to her seat.
“Well, I don’t think you’re gonna think it’s gross when you fall in love.” She looked from Will to you and Steve, “just look at (Y/n) and Steve. Don’t you want what they have?”
Will eyed the both of you, you and Steve stopped eating to hear what Will was gonna say, “what? Constantly eating each other's faces?”
“Dude, come on.” You groaned at Will while Steve just laughed.
“But, Will,” Steve stopped laughing and looked directly at Will, “I’m sure you’ll find a special girl later in life. You’re a catch.”
“I’m not gonna fall in love,” Will mumbled as he poured syrup over his food.
You heard the hidden pain in his words and understood why he thought he wasn’t gonna fall in love. You gave a slight tap to Will’s foot, his eyes looking your way and you threw a small smile to show just an ounce of your love and support for him.
“What- what happened here?” Joyce muttered as she walked near the fridge.
You and Will watched as she picked up a pile of papers and magnets that must have fallen off the fridge in the middle of the night. You saw how she looked at a drawing Will did for Bob, her hand lingering before joining the three of you at the table.
“So, Will, have any plans today?” You questioned him with a mouth full of pancakes.
“Dustin’s coming home from camp today, so we’re going to surprise him at his house. Ms. Henderson was really excited about the idea.”
“Oh! You guys should try and stop by today if you have time. I know Steve is just dying to see Dustin, aren’t you Stevie?” Your attention is on him now.
You spotted the slight flush to his ears but didn’t comment on it. Steve nodded his head while chewing his food before speaking, “yeah, really miss the know it all.” A tease mixed with fondness.
…
You had a lovely day off today, but sadly Steve and Robin had to work. So you dropped Steve off at the mall, drove off in his BMW, promised to pick him and Robin up at the end of their shift, and decided to keep Joyce company at Melvard’s. With Starcourt bringing newer stores and better work, downtown was empty. Ghost of stores that used to be full of business and life was now just rotting buildings with their windows papered over, and envelopes stuffed at the doorway.
When you pulled up to the storefront, through the window you watched Joyce hanging a giant sale sign, fifty to seventy percent off everything. It worried you knowing that Melvard’s was probably the next store to go out of business, the one store that Joyce has worked at for as long as you can remember. You knew small little Hawkins couldn’t stay the same forever, it still worried you every day.
The bell jingled at your arrival, Joyce already smiling at your visit.
“Hi, honey. What’s up?” She hopped off the little stool and met you halfway.
You shrugged, “wanted to keep you company for a bit. Jonathan’s at work, Will’s welcoming Dustin back, and my friend and boyfriend are working today.”
“Wha- what about your other friend? That- that Munson kid?” “Uh, I heard he went out of town for a few weeks or something.” You threw your arms over Joyce’s shoulders with your face pressed to her neck, “you don’t want your favorite child visiting you?”
Her arms wrapped around your waist, “well, I don’t see Will anywhere…”
You pulled away with a hurt gasp, “mother, I am hurt. Your only daughter, how could you?”
The two of you burst into giggles over your dramatics and before you could be carried any further the bell rang again. Two pairs of eyes landing on, “hi, Hopper.” A wave thrown his way which he returned with a gentle smile.
“Sorry for interrupting-”
“Oh, it’s fine, Hop. What can we do? Or whoever you need.” Joyce started to walk away to the cash register. You stayed behind, taking note of the nervous look on Hopper’s face. Joyce turned around at the quiet coming from the tall man and scoffed, “what now?” This must have been a recurring thing between them.
“(Y/n), could you grab the pricing gun and follow me?” And she headed to an aisle with Hopper in tow.
“So Mike was at the cabin again last night, the two of them in her room, being gross. They were giggling and kissing,” Hopper looked like he wanted to throw up at the memory, “and I always make sure that her door is open three inches, so I took a peek inside to make sure nobody was crossing a line. And when I saw them kissing and called them out-”
“Could you mark this side while I do the wall? Should be three dollars, everything.” Joyce stopped Hopper's story to instruct you. “You can continue, Hopper,” you said as you walked past him.
It was a few seconds before he spoke up again, “and- and then El, she just… slams the door. Right in my face.”
“Uh-huh?” Joyce absent-mindedly responded.
“You know, it’s that smug son of a bitch, Mike. He’s corrupting her, I’m telling you.” Footsteps sounded against the cool tile, “and I’m just gonna lose it. I mean, I am gonna lose it, Joyce.”
“Just take it down, Hopper.” Her voice sounded on the other side of your aisle.
“I need them to break up.” Hopper’s voice was firm.
“That is not your decision to make.” Joyce continued to price variest items.
“They’re spending entirely too much time together. You agree with me about that, right?” Hopper stood from his spot.
“Well, (Y/n) and Steve spend a lot of time together, at work and outside. And I mean, they’re just kissing, right?” Joyce pointed out.
“Yeah, but it’s constant. It is constant.” Hopper sounded like he was gonna blow a top.
You were about to voice an opinion of yours, but Joyce beat you to speaking first, “Oh, you should hear what Will says about (Y/n) and Steve, especially this morning-”
“Mom! Don’t say stuff like that.” You groaned.
“What- I’m just trying to help Hopper with examples.”
“Yeah, but I’m- Steve and I, we’re adults. It’s a bit more acceptable than when two, what, thirteen-year-olds do it. Look it sounds nice that El has someone she likes being around, but she and Mike are practically attached at the hip. And also add to the fact that they can’t stop sucking face, it’s gross. I’m gonna have to side with Hopper.”
Hopper points a hand at you, “thank you. You see, it’s not normal, it’s not healthy.”
“Well, you can’t just force them apart. I mean, they’re not little kids anymore, Hop. They’re teenagers.” Hopper walked his way over to Joyce, you following behind, “and (Y/n), you and Steve aren’t adults yet, the both of you are still teenagers as well.”
“Steve’s birthday is next month, he’ll be nineteen.” Thinking that’ll help your argument.
“Yeah, well, when he hits twenty-one and when you hit twenty-one, I’ll consider the both of you pre-adults. And when you hit twenty-five, that’s when you’re a full-fledged adult. Now, Hop,” her attention is done with you and back to Hopper who was throwing something into the air before catching it, “if you order them around like a cop, then they’re gonna rebel. It’s just what they do.”
You couldn’t argue with that.
“So what, I’m just supposed to let them do whatever they want?” Hopper flayed his arms out.
Joyce huffed, “no, I- I didn’t say that. I think you should… talk to them.” Pricing a box of Tampax.
“No. No. ‘Cause talking doesn’t work.”
“Not yelling. Not ordering. But talk to them. I do it with my kids, right, (Y/n)?”
Hopper turned towards you, waiting for any answer, “oh yeah. Little one-on-ones with each other. Heart-to-hearts, you know?”
Hopper’s eyes looked away from you for a moment like he was mulling over your words. “A heart-to-heart? What is that?” He fidgeted with his hat.
“Well,” Joyce jumped back in, “you sit them down and you talk to them like you’re their friend. I find if you talk to them like you’re on their level,” Hopper leaned against a beam, “then they start to listen. And then, you know, you could start to create some boundaries.”
“Boundaries,” Hopper whispered.
“Yeah, but, Hop, it’s really important that no matter how they respond, you stay calm. You cannot lose your temper.” You noted the eye roll followed by his fingers tapping along the pillar.
“Uh… maybe you could do it for me? Or (Y/n), even, she could do it. El likes you.” A glance your way before it was back on Joyce.
“No. And I say that for both of us. You need to do this on your own, Hop.” “Besides, I’d rather stay on the outside of this situation, it’s not our place. You’re her legal guardian, Hopper.” You added your input, but Hopper just waved you off and looked to Joyce.
“No, no, yeah. Yeah, you could. You come over after work.” He stomped towards her.
“No.”
“Yes.”
She shook her head, “no, it will only work if it comes from you. But…” She trailed off while walking to the counter, “maybe I can help you…” she grabbed a pad of paper and a pen, “I can help you find the right words.” She began to scribble words down with Hopper leaning in.
You watched the two of them, how Joyce was mouthing words to herself as she thought about them before writing them on the page. Noting that Hopper’s eyes glanced in her direction every few seconds before looking away like he didn’t want to get caught sneaking looks her way. It felt a bit wrong to observe them, but there was something that just piqued your interest.
Before you got carried away in your people-watching, a blur of motion was caught in your periphery making you jerk your head towards the store windows. And you saw Nancy rushing away before she disappeared from view.
…
“I know this is a difficult conversation to have… but I hope you know that I… care about you very much. And I know that you-”
“Eye contact.”
Hopper sighed at Joyce’s interruption. You just sat beside her with your arms crossed over your chest.
“And I know that you… both care about each other very much- this does not sound like me at all.”
“Well, you never know. As long as you don’t strangle Mike, it’s a win.” You tried to joke, but it wasn’t working.
Joyce threw a hand over your mouth, “just keep going. Come on.” She encouraged him with a smile.
Hopper took a breath, “which is why I think it’s important to establish these boundaries… moving forward…” he looked down at the lined paper.
“No looking. You know this. Come on.”
“...so we can build an environment… uh… where we… all feel comfortable and trusted and open… to share our feelings- this isn’t gonna work.” Hopper stood from his seat and walked to the empty side of Joyce, “um, it’s not gonna work. It’s not gonna work.” He kept repeating.
“Yes, it will! I promise.” “Just gotta put a bit more… emotion into it,” again, Hopper wasn’t enjoying your criticism.
“Maybe I’ll just kill Mike. I’m the chief of police, I could cover it up.”
“I’ll be your alibi.” You said in all seriousness. You saw the shake of Hopper’s shoulders, a quiet chuckle.
“Come on. You got this.” Joyce clasped their hands together.
Again you watched as they held each other's gazes, neither one breaking or pulling their hands apart. You saw the tiny smile hidden by his thick mustache, you couldn’t see Joyce’s face, but you knew there was a similar expression gracing her face.
After a minute or two of the growing silence, Hopper broke it first, “you wanna have dinner tonight?”
And that was your cue to leave.
You jumped off the counter and made your way toward the entrance, “Uh, I gotta get going. Steve and Robin are probably missing my wonderful presence.”
Joyce broke her stare with Hopper, “Okay, honey. I’ll see you at home?”
“Yeah, if anything changes, I’ll call you. Bye Hopper.” He waved you off and you were out of the store and into the maroon BMW.
…
With the summer heat growing a bit more as the day went on, the mall was packed with dozens of people. Some just sit at the food court with a book in hand or a group of friends going from store to store with shopping backs held in their grasp as they chat away. Not a single one of them knew of the dangers that have slipped into Hawkins during the dead of night, the things you’ve seen and experienced. You wished you could live like them, oblivious and in peace.
In your spaced-out mind, you reached the brightly colored ice cream parlor in no time, brain lagging for a minute.
“-n). (Y/n), hello.” It sounded like you were underwater and whoever was calling to you was muffled by the waves.
The trance ended when the person shook your shoulder, head snapping in their direction with wide eyes.
“You okay?” Robin’s husky voice was a whisper.
You blinked a few times, “uh, yeah. Yeah, just- just tired, I guess.” You saw the look in Robin’s eyes, she didn’t believe you, “good shift?” You tried to change the subject.
She hesitated before responding, “busy as usual. Along with your boy toy not being able to stop crying for you.” A playful roll of her eyes.
You grinned at that, “Speaking of my ‘boy toy’, where is he?”
“Disappeared somewhere like ten minutes ago,” she shrugged.
You questioned it, but didn’t voice it, “wanna get lunch with us when you’re done? You wanted a ride home anyway.”
“I guess, but all hands within eyesight and no kissing… I’ll allow one cheek kiss. But after that, I’ll throw myself down the escalator if I’m forced to witness your sickening love.”
“Oh, that’s such a nice sacrifice on your part, Robin.” Stretching the sarcastic tone.
Again, she rolled her eyes and turned her back on you before pushing the backroom doors open. You followed a step behind and sat across from her, her legs stretched over the small square table. You swatted at her beat-up converses, “can you get your dirty feet off the table? We eat here.”
“And we also clean it, so it should matter.”
“Not all of us clean it…” you trailed off.
Robin just rolled her eyes at the comment. The two of you chatted a bit, bits of gossip Robin heard from passing customers, what you did while away from work and you made a light mention of the Mike dilemma with Hopper. A joke was thrown in here and there causing the both of you to release loud chuckles that presumably drifted into the dining area.
Your chuckles died off when you heard the hinges of the doors squeak followed by hands resting on your shoulders. You leaned your head back, your round dome mushing into starchy fabric, but you had a lovely sight before you.
“Hi, Stevie,” a beaming smile erupted.
“Hi baby,” he leaned down and kissed your forehead, “I’ve missed you.”
“Hmm, Robin told me you were, and I quote ‘crying for my presence’. Thought you could handle a few hours away from my quiet self.” A tilt of your head finished your sentence.
Steve scoffed and rolled his eyes, “I always want to be around you. Like… you’re like air. I need you every second to live or I’ll die.” His thumbs swiped along your jawline.
You peered at him with wide eyes with your mouth agape, startled by this sudden admission. You wanted to make a joke, something to break the silence, but you knew if you joked when Steve just said those, it would leave cracks in his heart. So the most you could do at the moment was beam him a smile and twine your hands together.
“Ugh, I’m gonna barf.” Robin broke the lovely spell.
You bit your lip to stop the childish smile that wanted to follow her comment. Steve huffed and moved to the seat that was in the middle of yours and Robins. He ran a hand through his hair before moving it to his cheek and leaning into his palm with his eyes zeroed in on you.
“What?” You asked after a beat of silence.
You couldn’t see the smile, but you saw his cheeks move, “you’re just really pretty.”
“Well I think you’re pretty, without a doubt,” you tried to argue back, not being able to handle compliments thrown your way.
Steve shook his head, strands of chestnut hair touching his forehead, “nope. Nobody comes close to the beauty you radiate.”
You fidgeted with your hands before covering your face, not being able to handle the sweet honey dripping from Steve’s lips or the loving gaze that was staring down into your soul.
“Guys, what have I said? No PDA! For the love of my sanity, please.” Robin’s voice cracked at the end.
“We aren’t doing any PDA, Buckley. I’m just making sure my girl knows how loved and gorgeous she is.” Steve shrugged like it was nothing.
“Yeah, well it feels like I’m being forced to watch the two of you kiss. It’s so- ugh!” She threw her head back before smacking a hand into Steve’s bicep, “stop eye fucking her! I’m right here! Save that for private time, please.” Her hands clasped together, really begging for a reprieve from the two of you.
“Guess you don’t want a ride home then,” Steve spoke as he stood from his seat.
“Honestly if this keeps up, I’ll for sure just take the bus home.” She grumbled.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at their friendly banter, the two of them firing at each other just as the other shoots back. You can’t help but think that these two people somehow became friends on their own, with very little push coming from your end. It made you happy, one of your best friends and your boyfriend getting along well with or without you around.
“Okay, okay. Let’s put the claws away and let's get food because I am starving.” You mediated the situation from going any further.
“Yeah, whatever. Harrington’s paying for me,” Robin walked away to grab her backpack. Steve was opening and closing his mouth like a fish.
You just held your hands up, “you were eye fucking me earlier, this would make up for it.” A stupid reason, but you knew Steve would give in either way.
And with a simple roll of his stunning brown eyes, you knew he caved. And pretty quickly, might be a new record.
“You’re very lucky that I would do anything for you.”
“And that includes buying Robin’s lunch. Like the good friend, you are to her.” A quick tap to Steve’s chest.
When Robin came back the both of you left Steve behind and walked out of the store with your faces close together as you gossip around the fast-paced bystanders. And if one of those topics involved Steve… he didn’t need to know any of the tiny details.

Stephanie Brown Fic Recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
closet space by adelfie - Rated T
“Hi,” she says in a breathless rush, then takes a moment to swallow and wet her lips. “I, uh, need your help?” “Are you dying?” “N-not exactly.” “Then you don’t need me,” comes Jason’s lazy, uninterested reply. The call ends with a click. -- Steph doesn't know what's more embarrassing: that she's been locked in a closet during a party, or the fact that her "friends" aren't really her friends. And to top it all off, Jason's the only one who can come rescue her.
heroes and thieves at my door (i can’t seem to tell them apart anymore) by Hinn_Raven - Rated G
Bruce really can’t help but think that Stephanie Brown, pre-medicine, piano player, and honors student, with Leslie vouching for her, would be a far better girlfriend for his daughter than Spoiler, the new vigilante in town.
Spoiler Alert: It Gets Better. by carolinaa - Rated T
Red Hood's been running Robin's Nest, a secret youth shelter in Gotham, since he came out of his murdery craze. He wants it to be a place to stay, no questions asked, with a hot meal provided if you stick around for breakfast. The kids of Gotham deserve that much. Enter Stephanie, whose new name isn't the only secret she's keeping. (or: how steph outsmarts her dad, makes gay friends, and gets the guy)
DON'T YOU CRY, DRY YOUR EYES. by orpheusaki - Not Rated
After inhaling her food before Bruce's even halfway through his vanilla milkshake, Stephanie seems to have sobered up a little. She's looking less green, and more like she's trying to develop x-ray vision and look into Bruce's soul. Or maybe she's still drunk, because she very suddenly and very bluntly tells him, "I used to wish you were my dad," drowning her chips into a little pot of ketchup. Bruce pauses. He slowly drops the chicken nugget he was about to put in his mouth — since now is probably not the time to complain about how the nuggets are a little dry today. (Bruce Wayne is not Stephanie Brown's father, not at all.)
No Body Nobody by snackbaskets - Rated M
Now, worst case scenario: What’s so bad you call Jason? Easy. You call him when you need someone beaten, killed, or otherwise met with incredible violence. You call him when you’re running away for a week because Bruce is being a dickhole. You call him when you want to eat food by someone who can cook Gothamite comfort, and to yell really really loud. When she spoke again, it was with a whisper, strained as if it were creaking its way out of her body, wasting away all the air in her lungs and making her voice into something high and reedy, splintering on the last word in her mouth. “Don’t tell Bruce.” You call Jason when you need to hide a body. This fic contains graphic depictions of violence/gore, mentions of sexual assault (NOT to Steph or Jason), and POV dissociation. Proceed with care.
Before the World Was Big by luckyymoth - Rated T
Stephanie Brown is back and better than ever! Well. Okay she's back. And is trying to cope the best she can, especially with her best friend leaving her behind with nothing but a hand-me-down costume. She just can't help but wish for the way it was before the world was big.
Stephanie by revstarbrainrot - Rated T
Stephanie is thrown to the ground, something cracking beneath her. No. No, she wasn’t Robin anymore. This is different, Stephanie is different. She’s trained with Cass more since then, she’s stronger, she- Rubble falls from the ceiling, landing on the center of her back. The air is knocked out from Stephanie, and this is looking horribly familiar.
paranoid android by SnappleSnapSnake - Rated T
“Hello, Stephanie. Or should I call you Spoiler?” A woman’s scrambled voice rang out, talking like a fucking Bond villain. Okay, so, yeah. Probably a mob boss. Play it cool, Steph. “Um, how exactly do you know my name? Or where I live?” She asked instead of screaming or swearing or literally anything else she wanted to do. To be fair, it was a really good question. “That is unimportant,” the woman (who steph hereby dubbed as ‘voice lady’) answered, definitely more collected than Stephenie was. And why wouldn’t she be? Voice Lady had all the power here. “I am here to ask for a favour.”

"I'm sorry, I don't think I'm ready for bed. I don't think I'll be able to sleep at all again. If you want, I can go back to my own place. I don't want to keep you up all night, Jervis."
It had been plaguing you for weeks now, an inability to close off your mind, to shut yourself down and get a proper rest. Jervis was more than happy to accommodate your strange sleeping habits, keen to spend as many seconds with you as possible, but your best interests were more important to him than any selfish notions he might have.
"I think I have a solution to your issue. If you don't mind me offering my skills. While it's obvious sleep eludes you, some hypnotism might grant you the will."
Smiling at his sweet words, the offer to lull you to a full night's rest filling you with excitement, you stood up, taking the hand he offered to you. Waiting for him to bring out his pocket watch, you cocked your head as he instead brought the needle across his record player. A classical piece began to play, Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, so convenient as though he had planned it all along.
Bringing you to him he held your lower back and took your hand, leading you in a slow waltz, in small circles within his tiny living space. You rested your head against his shoulder, feeling tired already, from the over-exertion you suspected, but you felt oddly energised. The circles, the spinning, seemed to be having the same effect as his usual hypnotism methods.
With a delicate twirl, he spun you out and then back into his chest, holding one of yours arms out at length. His lips, warm and soft, placed a kiss against your wrist, trailing up your forearm, your upper arm, where he lingered at your neck before kissing your cheek.
As you stared into his eyes, he dipped you low, letting you fall slowly, gently, to the bed below you, where your eyes closed immediately, sleep staved off only long enough to feel his curls against your cheeks as he bent to kiss your forehead.

Tw: Animal death, suicide mention, blood, gore, torture mention, violent ideas
[Mismatched excerpts ripped off from Finley's Journal. The dates have been scribbled away with a black pen.]
It feels weird writing on a journal. Like something a teenager might do instead of a grown ass man who works from 9 to 5.
But I needed to destress and let it out on some pages after talking with my mother on the phone. I hate hearing her shrill voice on the other side of the receiver. The only thing she can do is complain and complain and complain about the same thing over and over again. I don't want to see that man either... I hate him more than her.
I can't handle her and to think I have to go and visit them on Thanksgiving and Christmas I feel like I am going to lose my damn head.
At least I can let things out and still practice my writing if needed, so that's a plus. I haven't had much time to update my book, and that's making me a bit sad. Hopefully, I'll be able to write a bit.
Might treat myself and go the diner to get some choco pancakes and a milkshake. Those will surely cheer me up.
Really want pancakes and milkshakes...
-
The longer I stay on this damn job, the more I feel like I am going to lose myself. I've been spacing out every 5 minutes whenever someone talks to me. It's hard. (Hehe)
I had to stay 2 more hours overtime, no pay for my hard work the 3rd time this week. I had to wake up earlier, too. I arrived around 8 instead of 9 because the computers were acting up at my workplace and needed me, the IT guy, to fix them.
Not to mention, the printer too... If I have to fistfight the printer again, or hear any of my coworkers complain, particularly Brandon, I am going to strangle them. I am really going to snap!!!
I wish their heads would just explode into a bloody mess. Just Carrie them off with my mind powers whenever I feel annoyed of them. They surely deserve that, particularly Brandon and my boss. Fuck those two. The world would be better if they didn't exists. We don't need red flags walking around the office... only me! Haha!
-
I promised myself to do it again, but alas, old habits die hard as the saying goes.
Went to the beach for a dip and found a baby bird on the sand. Ants surrounding its small body and biting pieces away to bring it to their lair. Lucky for me, I always have my camera with me. Never the one to miss a chance.
I guess I should be sad but that's how nature is.
Cruel.
I wonder how others would react if they saw my ant-bitten corpse...
-
Finished rewatching Scream 2 and...
Damn... Why is Mickey kinda...?
Like... you know? If I was a girl I'd be into him and have his poster hanging over my bedroom wall haha.
Still angry at Scream 2 for killing Randy, tho. He was my favorite.
Rented Carrie, Slaughter High, Graduation, Prom Night, for tonight. Felt a bit nostalgic for some reason. Getting shoved in a locker every tuesday really does something to a guy. Going to have a nice movie night with myself while I think of my high school times.
Totally good for my mental stability, yup!
-
I wonder how my old high school friends have been doing...
Do they remember me with disdain? Are they happy with their life? More successful? Managed to marry a nice gal or guy and have many kids together? A stable job and nice suburban house?
...
Fuck them.
-
Death still scares me.
I thought that if I forced myself to witness the worst of the worst. Every torture imaginable, researching hours and hours and hours of how a body decays, how long does it take for it to rot, shrink, turn into dust.
Live footages of people getting decapitated, stabbed, run over, split in half, drowned, squashed to death, gutted, burned alive, choked, flayed.
I'd grow out of it.
It's not that hard to look for stuff like that as long as you know where to find it and you're patient.
Will I ever be able to look at their loved ones in their eyes. Admit that I saw the last moments of their brother, mother, a cousin? The light leaving their eyes?
I thought I've become numb enough to just stare attentively, not blinking for a second.
People I know will die one day. Complete strangers, lives of theirs I will never know, are dying as I write this.
And yet, I remain wide awake. Imagining how it'll feel for my body to reach nothingness. The maggots feasting on my insides, eating away little by little. Gourging themselves on the bile and flesh and pus from my organs till they become fat, squirmy little bugs. Eating, mating, dying, rinse and repeat over and over and over again.
My skin itches thinking of it. Like they have already managed to crawl deep inside.
Even a death as boring and not spectacular like an illness terrifies me.
-
How long do I have left? Have I wasted my life? Is it too late for me?
When will I die...
-
I miss my friends from high school... some of them I've forgotten their names...
I sometimes think about Chelsea. No, I am always thinking about her...
If I contact her... will she ever forgive me?
It's too late to cry over spilt milk.
-
Seems I've been thinking about death a lot lately.
I went to go see a movie to try and fend of the feelings of dread and paranoia that have been seeping in me.
Stale popcorn, overpriced and oversized. Check.
Watered down soda. Check.
Badly directed horror film? Check.
Annoying and talkative patrons? Double check.
The blood effects weren't as cool compared to others, but at least the lead was hot even if she couldn't act to save her life.
-
Why am I even trying?
-
I made a blog.
I post all the pictures I've taken from dead animals and roadkill.
-
I feel numb.
-
I haven't been feeling real as of late. I even dared touch one of the spilt out guts of a cat behind an alleyway. I wanted to feel something. See if I was still here. I pushed my fingers in, feeling the slimy and sticky organs. It burned and I janked my hand away.
It felt surreal.
I can't feel my hands or face at times. Like they weren't even there to begin with.
-
I think I might go to a therapist.
-
I want to die...

So what about Eddie with someone who’s obsessed right back and it’s like that song “unhealthy obsession.” Like sneaking into each other’s place to steal their stuff and you both don’t think the other one knows you exist. Let wackos love other wackos.
It's an interesting concept! An obsessed/yandere partner is something Eddie would definitely be into. After all, they speak his love language...🌺
🫀REQUESTS ARE OPEN🫀 || Batman-inspired playlist
Riddler with an obsessed/yan! partner
You guys are like a dog chasing its tail.
Definitely confused that someone wants his undivided attention
Relationship so toxic Britney Spear's on the phone with her lawyers
What got you initially interested in Eddie was, paradoxally, his lack of presence. In any social setting, dude's practically invisible
So there you were, at a diner, drinking your milkshake and pondering your loneliness when HE came in
A person so easy to overlook you couldn't keep your eyes off him
I mean, he looked so adorable! All awkward and meek it was as if he was silently begging for someone to love him like he deserved
And you were definitely the one to give it to him
So that night you followed him out of the diner and to his home
Little did you know, he also remained not indifferent towards you
Yes, Eddie did notice that romantically miserable person sipping their milkshake by the window
He caught your interest and you caught his
The first time you broke into his apartment, you were so excited you nearly knocked a few things over
Because it's his space
If he has any posters, movies, books, magazines etc. that could indicate his interests, you take pictures of them. For science.
You also took pictures of his aftershave and/or shampoo to buy for yourself
This huge chest of drawers in Eddie's apartment has all drawers locked. 'Their' is scratched into the wooden surface and you're about to start World War III thinking he has a partner
Even if that were the case, their term would end quite quickly and rapidly
A little murder never killed nobody. Or something like that.
You stole at least one article of Eddie's clothing. You wear them whenever you're having a bad day
You definitely have creepy stalker-style pictures of him - printed out and with lipstick kiss stains on them (you give him /pictures of him/ a kiss every morning. Is there a better way to start your day?)
Eddie was equally giddy walking through your space
Definitely nicked a few things and lay in your bed imagining what it would be like to lay there with you
He definitely gathered hair from your brush/comb and keep them underneath his pillow/mattress
You visited every store in Gotham to get the same glasses he wears - no matter whether you wear glasses yourself
Eddie would definitely steal one of the mugs/glasses from your sink and keep them as a piece of you
If you find any evidence of other people being in Eddie's life (no matter who they are), you add them to your blacklist. They might or might not suffer "unfortunate accidents". For legal reasons I cannot disclose any details
He sniffs your clothes. Maybe gets a little too into it
If you have a stuffed toy, Eddie gets a copy of it. Definitely talks to it about anything and everything
Bonus: sprays it with the perfume you usually wear
He knows the places you frequent and you know his. On quite a few occasions you missed each other because you were looking for one another. Told ya: dog chasing its tail
There is some excitement about Eddie not knowing about you. Simply put, if he doesn't know, he can't reject you. He can't stop you from being close like a fly in the wall
Carrying the keys to each other's flats on the same keychain as to your own. Because you kinda do live there too
Sometimes he hangs out outside of your window and watches you until you fall asleep
If or when you find out he's the Riddler, you're the number 1 fan
Selling homemade merch and anonymously donating the profit to him
The darker corners of the internet quickly recognize your #1 fan status
This leads to a funny situation where Eddie knows of you but not about you
You may or may not have committed a crime in the name of the Riddler... multiple times.
The only things worth knowing are those connected to Eddie
Speaking of crimes and Eddie: he had assaulted someone because of you. Maybe they were getting a little too close to you or they were mean or they became suspicious of him
