some dragon age au basics as i figure this thing out:

amerith, aka the free march that lucy's people originated from, was decimated by the fourth blight. it's now a wasteland small factions fight over that the chantry largely ignores due to its lack of resources. they don't consider resettling that area worth their time. prior to the fourth blight, amerith was contested because it was largely made up of magical tinkerers & those who supported them.

lucy comes looking for her father after he's kidnapped out of her vault, same as in canon, but she has to travel south to ferelden where moldaver's situated. she ends up tangled up with the warden because of reasons, and her personal quest has to do with finding her dad.

she's a mage with the spellblade spec but also kind of a rogue artificer in the context of dragon age. she can infuse objects with magic and even enchant them.

Dual calamities AU, post pidw. SJ kills himself on the shards of Xuan Su by swallowing them. Qijiu end up entwined into one ghost amalgamation, their combined regrets hatred spite and resentment and everything creating a nearly supreme/calamity level ghost. They go off indiscriminately murdering in the demon realm in a mindless unaware rampage, consuming ghosts and demons alike and becoming stronger until they are strong enough to be aware once more.

Luo Binghe becomes aware of the new calamity too late, due to his distraction with the Bingge vs Bingmei extra happenings, and ends up regretting it as he fails to catch up to them time and time again, despite attempting to chase down the new calamity that slaughtered half the demons in a mindless rage.

It could go down the Bingqijiu path or be simply Qijiu retreating somewhere to live in peace. Maybe being annoyed later on by Hua Cheng and/or He Xuan, maybe even Bai Wuxiang once. They kick Qi Rong off a mountain once, when he comes to annoy them for the title only to prove that is not a calamity (unfortunately for him, ily stinky green ghost). SJ is gonna have the time of his life roasting his ass. Qi Rong will leave both in pieces and tears.

Their only disadvantage really is that they cannot seperate too much, physically. But I imagine after being in each other's brains after the soul merge they don't particularly care to be (nor would they want to be. This is Qijiu we're talking about.) It's Qijiu's codependant dream. Xuan Su sewed them together and actually they are very very codependant and possessive after everything so this is just fine. They probably even have a Xuan Su blood weapon, that heeds both their commands and calls. While fighting they synchronise, with YQY being the strength and SJ the brains.

I imagine YQY is able to conjure the arrows that pierced him as spiritual projectiles, and SJ chains that bound him in the water prison. Their strength was cultivated by absorbing and devouring other ghosts and demons.

@ace-shenanigans came up with the lovely title "jade dragon stalks bamboo" which is a much better title than I could ever hope to come up with. Thank you for listening to my mad ramblings

I've been wanting to draw and think on this for a while, of how grotesque to make the initial ghost + the later higher cultivation form. But basically the kiln and everything would count them as one ghost, probably a dual title too. They'd be like a myth amongst the realms, retreating to a comfortable mountain peak with bamboo, occassionally off to hunt down slavers.

Nobody ever talks about how Leo didn’t use his powers AT ALL during the time between his mother’s death and coming to Camp Half-Blood. And what the implications of that are.

Like the moment it’s revealed to the reader is the first time in SEVEN YEARS that he’s tried to keep a sustained burn going. That kid was so afraid of his powers, that even when he was being bullied and abused in the foster homes, he didn’t try and stop them, even though he knew he had the power to, he couldn’t. He suppressed his powers for most of his childhood, and still only uses them in life or death, to help his friends.

I’m reading BoO rn, and we’ve just had a scene where Leo, Frank, Hazel, and Percy are fighting the Nikettes, and Leo only uses his fire as a last resort to save Hazel, even though the flames melted their enemy’s face off so easily. He tried everything in his power to stop them some other way until he was absolutely certain that it was the only thing he could do.

Imagine how powerful he would’ve been if he hadn’t tried to suppress them, and instead had had proper training and practice in wielding them. He is the first pyrokinetic demigod in nearly four centuries! Y’all say Percy is the most powerful demigod, and I agree, but imagine what Leo COULD’VE been if he wasn’t so afraid of what he’d become.

Because the Moonchip holds what is left of that part of her, any host it takes gets a number. Sadly, this number will ever only be 1 since no host can take another form after being destroyed.

Honestly, I never really put any real thoughts in Pony names for any of my pontifications since I usually make my pontification universes essentially have the same logic as Zootopia does (basically just MLP!Ponies replace humans in the same manner Zootopia did) cuz I just always thought that was a fun approach to the pontification idea!

But if I did give them their own respective pony names they would be the following:

Chucky = Red Moon Apple/Moony (has no relation to the Apple Family lolol)

Tiffany = Cookie Cutter (sometimes called Cookie for short)

Glen = Soulshine

Glenda = Fire Spray

okay so we're gonna say that amerith (aka dragon age!america) was one of the free marches that was largely overwhelmed by darkspawn during the fourth blight. lucy is the descendant of some of amerith's richest citizens, who were able to pay to have stone bunkers crafted underground to hide in under threat of another blight. somehow, and perhaps owing to them being far enough north, they avoided being completely overcome by chantry law before the fourth blight started, and their entire civilization was apparently destroyed anyway.

OKAY so I was trying to get to sleep but an idea for a really terrible AU came into my head where, through a weird twist of fate, Octavian landed on Festus’ back after being shot out of that onager and was accidentally administered the physician’s cure instead of Leo. He ends up on Ogygia, rescues Calypso, comes back, and has to learn to be a better person in Leo’s name.

Imagine seeing the horrified looks on everyone’s faces when they found out you got a second chance to live and Leo didn’t. The realisation that everybody hated you, and that you hurt so many people. That the war you waged caused so much damage and death. Feeling like you didn’t deserve your second chance- but deciding to make the most of it to honour the person who should’ve come back. Rethink your prejudices, take accountability, and learn from your mistakes.

I don’t think I’ll write this, but it would be a fun/interesting read.

Second, and the point of this ask, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on Mary Kirby's revelation that Lucanis is demi, pan, and a virgin? And are you planning to carry this across into your story?

Thank you so much for your lovely compliment on my Rookanis fic - I was really nervous about posting Untouchable, but the support and friendly comments have really made me happy! Lucanis and Spite are so much fun, and I fell in love with them even before I played Veilguard. The fact that anyone from the DA fandom is reading my story is still incredible to me 😅 so thank you.

In regards to Mary Kirby, I'll preface my response by saying that I love the little tidbits that she has been contributing to the fandom. It adds some fun flavour and insight to his character that we otherwise wouldn't know. Buuuut, I dont think she has the final say in Lucanis and his character - she wasn't the character's only writer, she was fired a year before the game released, and the Lucanis we got in Veilguard + stories seems to have gone through some changes. Mary herself originally called him a 'bisexual disaster', which has a very specific online meaning, and this doesn't entirely gel with her later comments that he is demi and a virgin. Plus, we have dialogue lines where he talks about previous lovers, so not everything lines up perfectly. I take her tidbits with a grain of salt - they're fun but not necessarily canon.

I think fandom writers and artists should feel free to perceive his character in Veilguard any way they want to - as long as its respectful to what is established in game (and even then, if you're writing an AU I think you have the freedom be flexible!). If Lucanis being a demi virgin makes you happy, then you should absolutely celebrate that aspect in your fic and art. If you see him as more seductive and experienced, then that's equally valid, and you should write your sexy Crow. Fandom should be about having fun and being creative with your HC, not about feeling pressured to change your HC to fit with other people's.

Personally, I absolutely read Lucanis as being demisexual in the game and someone who needs that emotional connection, but not a virgin. I can't see a highly trained Crow assassin as not having been trained in the art of seduction and sex. So, in my fic I'm writing him as being experienced with sex, but not experienced with relationships, love, or any of that emotional stuff.

However, that's just my reading of his character and that doesn't mean I don't respect other readings of his character. I don't want anyone to feel disappointed by my story - it's very a very slow burn romance, but my Lucanis isn't a virgin and there will be smut in my fic involving Lucanis, Rook & Spite. I hope that I'll be able to show that connection and desire building between them in a way everyone likes!

i love that the warden!rook story comes w/them having received a little griffon statue from some girl in the village they saved (i think it specifically says a little girl but i'm not sure) bc i am just obsessed w/the idea of coop meeting this little girl and she just looks so much like janey did at that age and so he decides to drop an entire building to collapse a tunnel to save the village from darkspawn, but specifically that little girl

How would your versions of Glen and Glenda react to the series Chucky and Tiffany? 👀

Hope you don't mind if I answered this as if the twins were watching the series for themselves!

Glen: Would've legit cried watching Season 3 cuz the aspect of his Dad growing and dying in his doll form cuz even the thought of losing his Dad (who, despite their differences, Glen see as a protector, a rock, a shoulder to lean on, and someone he could talk to if he felt scared or anxious), would've had to get a hug and reassurance from Chucky, even after seeing the season end on a good note for Chucky!

Seeing his mom act the way she did throughout the entire series would've given him very mixed feelings, he would've felt that Tiffany doing what she did to Nica in the series and the way she acted towards them in the series was in his words

"A bastardization of someone who, yes has flaws and does... Horrible things, would not have had interest in someone else other than my dad, let alone keep a woman hostage for herself"!

Glenda: She would've HATED the series version of her Mom, she feels they made her way too selfish, self absorbed, and too greedy at that, would've hated how Tiffany's actions affected the series version of her and her brother

Also would've hated how her series version of herself just didn't believe or even listen to a word her Dad said and just left him behind, since she saw the series version of Tiffany as worse, she actually felt bad that Series!Tiffany had ruined her relationship with her Dad in the series!

She would've had to have a Father/Daughter Snuggle with her Dad Chucky after that lol

She only forgives Series!Tiffany after Chiffany became canon again in the Season 3 Finale!
