“Marriage”
Pairings: Natasha x reader; Kate x reader (friends)
Genre: fluff
Warnings: little bit of angst if you squint; lots of fluff
Summary: feelings are revealed when you and Natasha are sent on a mission - as a married couple
a/n: literally wrote this at 1am so excuse any spelling mistakes or bad grammar. Love writing fluff fics, kinda want to write more Nat x reader on missions together.
“You’ll be acting as a married couple, spending a few days’ getaway, while you gather intel on this HYDRA cell. Early reports estimate there’s four men and two women. We need them alive,” Steve added, his gaze moving from you to Natasha.
“Relax, Cap. I know they’re the bad guys but I want them alive almost as much as you do.” She glanced over at you. “Ready to be my wife, baby?”
You gulped and nodded, making her smirk. “Uh, y-yes. Baby.”
After the mission briefing, you left hastily. You needed to find Kate and inform her of how deep you were in it this time. The raven-haired archer was your best friend from college and the two of you were delighted to be working together for SHIELD. While Kate grew her skills and reputation alongside Clint, you were training to be a stealth agent, like Natasha. Being on this op was your dream… apart from the tiny problem of your crush on Agent Romanoff.
You’d fangirled over her from afar, daydreaming about what it would be like to date her. You’d also infamously (Kate laughed about it every time it was mentioned) tripped over your own feet at your first meeting with Natasha, falling flat on your ass in front of her. While Kate had burst into peals of laughter, Natasha had reached down and pulled you to your feet with amusement written all over her face.
“...Y/n!” You jolted, Kate’s voice bringing you out of your daydream. “Are you still there?”
“Yeah, I’m here. Where are you? We need to talk, like, now.”
“I’m at our usual rendezvous.”
You met Kate on the roof. Her bow and quiver were lying by her side and she was in her training gear, sitting on the edge of the roof, one leg swinging over the side of the building and the other tucked up, her chin resting upon it.
“Hey.” You sat down beside her and groaned. “I’m in deep shit, Katie.”
“You landed yourself a mission with Natasha? Your crush, I might add. How’s that deep shit?”
“I have to play her wife,” you whimpered. “Her wife! What the hell do I do?”
She chuckled, but stopped when you glared at her. “Yeah. You’re in deep shit. Just make sure you’re focused on the mission when you’re supposed to be and not on her. I remember this one time with me and Clint, and I was all like, Clint, Hawkeye, he’s an Avenger, and I forgot that we were supposed to be tracking bad guys and I almost got an arrow in my…”
You put a hand over her mouth, stopping her ramble. “What do I do, Katie? I’m not going to do well on this mission. I’ve failed everyone.” You put your head in your hands.
“Hey. Hey,” she said gently, putting an arm around you. “You’re y/n. You were hand picked for this. I know you can do this. Now come on, let’s go look at the kit that you’re going to take with you. Focus on the mission and it’ll be over before you know it, ok?”
You headed off the roof, making your way back down through the levels of the compound until you were approaching the labs, which were a shortcut to the kit room. You pulled Kate back as she rounded a corner, noticing Natasha and Bruce in one of the rooms. The expression on Natasha’s face as she gazed at Bruce made your stomach twist. He put a hand on her arm and spoke, making her laugh and shake her head.
Peering round the corner to see a bit more, he glanced past the spy, noticing you watching. Your eyes widened as you made eye contact and you retreated quickly, heading off down the corridor. Kate didn’t say anything but watched you go, knowing you needed some space.
***
There was a tyre swing amongst the trees on the edge of the compound. It was built by Bucky for some of the SHIELD agents’ children. You sat down glumly on the tyre, too dejected to push yourself back and forth.
“Hey.” You looked up to see Natasha standing a few metres away. “Can we talk?” You shrugged and she approached slowly, pausing when she was right next to you. You stared at the ground until she reached out, putting a hand under your chin and tilting your head up to look at her.
“Y/n, talk to me. I know something’s wrong. You couldn’t wait to leave the briefing room this morning.” She hesitated. “Is it me? Did I do something?”
Yes, you thought, you were talking to Bruce and not me. “This mission’s going to be hard for you, isn’t it?” you said quietly.
“Why do you say that?”
“Because I’m not Bruce,” you whispered, your gaze falling to the ground again. “I’m just me.”
She was silent for a moment then crouched down next to you. “Y/n, you’re not just you. Please don’t say that about yourself. I don’t think of you that way. You’re so much more to me than that. And Bruce… he understands it’s not going to be him. He’s okay with it, and so am I. We’re just friends.” She bit her lip. “We’re close because we’ve both seen things… things that not many others have.”
“Natasha, I don’t think I can go on this mission with you.”
“Hey.” She waited until you looked at her. “I selected you for this mission. It wasn’t Steve, or even Fury, who asked for you. It was me. Do you know why?”
You shook your head. “No.”
“Because I know that you care about me. And I know that I can get extremely focused on missions, sometimes to a deteriorating point. And I need someone to bring me back to reality when I’m about to charge into a room full of HYDRA agents. That person, that someone, is you. I know that you’ll keep me grounded.” She leant closer. “It was only ever going to be you coming with me, y/n.”
“Right.”
“I care about you,” she whispered, and your head jerked up, staring at her with a wide, slightly confused gaze. “I care about you a lot.”
A small smile crept onto your face, making her smile. She leant in, her forehead touching yours, and reached out, winding her fingers through yours. It was a rare moment of vulnerability from both of you.
***
“Any updates?”
You looked away from the window to see Natasha sitting up against a bank of pillows, her laptop lying next to her. You narrowed your eyes and looked hard at her. “You’re supposed to be resting… my love.”
She smiled. “I am.”
“That means leaving the reports for later,” you said, going over to the bed and reaching over to grab her laptop. She pulled you down on top of her, making you squeal, and kissed you softly. “And there’s no update. They’re still in the room, talking.”
“This is the most boring op ever,” she groaned.
“Oh I’m sorry, am I not exciting enough?” You pretended to be affronted and moved back towards the window. You heard her get out of bed and pad over to stand behind you, one of the hotel’s dressing gowns wrapped around her. She leant her chin on your shoulder, peering through the binoculars as you raised them to her eye level.
“You’re plenty exciting, baby,” she whispered, making a shiver run down your spine. “I just wish they would be too. Otherwise Fury’s getting a two sentence report and he won’t be pleased about that.”
“Your mind is too much on this mission,” you chided softly. “You need to relax and let me take care of things. After all,” you raised the binoculars to your eyes again, “I’ve got it all under control.”

Top! Kate Bishop x Bottom! Female Reader
summary: You and your girlfriend are getting ready for party but you still have some time…
A/N: I need Hawkeye season 2 right now. This is the best I have ever written 😶🌫️
I appreciate every reblog and like 💝
⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅
"Kate stop, I'm trying to do my make-up." You say laughing when she start to tickle your waist.
Kate chuckle as well at your reaction as she lean forward and continue tickling you around your waist "Make-up can wait, you look gorgeous already." She put her chin on your head, smiling at you in the mirror. Her charming smile still make your stomach fill with butterflies.
"You're such a dork." You say sarcastically rolling your eyes at her words pretending to be annoyed but you feel flattered, despite her comment you continue to put your blush on your cheeks. She don't respond, instead she tickle you one more time making you mad.
You roll eyes, looking at her in the mirror reflection letting her know it's enough with glare. "If you won't stop I'll punch you, and trust me your mother won't be happy when you will arrive like that." You say half deadly serious but also with playfulness. You both are going to formal party which Kate's mother invited you to. You still have much time but you both like to gather up quicker. Your comment makes her laugh, but she wouldn't be surprised if her girlfriend would hit her. Because when you’re mad you can be really assertive.
"Well, I'm just trying to enjoy the view while I can." She can't help but smirk even though you're 'serious'. Her hands on your waist still aren't moving but holding you even tighter.
"You really like that dress I’m wearing?" You remark in seductive voice and hint of teasing. You know this dress can make her want to rip it off you, especially by tight and short design. She can admit she love it and hate it because the shortness provokes her.
Kate’s smirk widens as she look down at your body shamelessly. "Yes… really." She say in low voice leaning down a little to kiss your shoulder and whisper in your skin "Can't wait to take you out of it either." She brushes her nose against your skin smelling your sweet perfume. The touch make you feel sensitive.
"Who said you are going to take it off me later?" You say teasingly turning around to her with your back pressed into desk. Your hands immediately went to her chest fixing her black shirt.
She’s not surprised by your feistiness "And who's going to try and stop me?" She ask as her smirk raises into a smug look with a slight eyebrow raise as she squeeze your waist.
"Your mother will stop you if we will be late." You say playfully, wrapping your arms around her neck looking up at her eyes.
Snort escapes from her mouth shaking her head at you in disbelief. "There’s still much time and I can do this right now." Her low voice was quiet and hot making your stomach feel warm.
"Now?" You giggle softly seeing how much she craves you right now. Archer started to kiss your neck slowly brushing your skin with her breath. She hummed in response kissing your shoulder stroking your dress strap with her teeth. "Even if we were a little late, my mother would still forgive us." She continued to murmur against your skin. You hum pulling her closer by her neck barely listening to her when you’re in heaven.
You moved your head to the side giving her much space while she can hear your little panting. You felt her hands on your hips clenching so she can raise you up for you to sit on desk. It’s crazy how easy she can do that.
She kissed your shoulders one couple times before she pulled away slowly "You know, she likes you." Archer added smiling smugly at you, looking down at your thighs to start playing with the material of the end dress which ended really high on your thighs when you’re sitting.
"I'm glad." Your smile grow bigger at her words. You really liked her mother too. You’ve always had so much in common and many topics to talk about so you’re happy to know that.
"She always tells me to treat you well because you’re a good girl." She says with smirk in her face being proud to say that. You noticed she’s really happy with that fact. You giggled at her confession and her eyes immediately went back to you. "Am I treating you enough?" She asks squinting her eyes with that charming smile putting hands on the side of yours thighs. She knows she treats you the best she can but she likes to play with you. You raise an eyebrow at her surprised by her words but also can’t help but tease her a little.
"Maybe" You say playfully smiling slyly. You are willing to play this "game" with her, and you know how it ends. She run her tongue through inside of her cheek staring deeply into your eyes. You can feel the need between your legs when she looks at you like that.
"Maybe?" She repeated after you playfully, lowering her head down to look at your bare thighs, and you followed her gaze. She smiled smugly, carefully spreading your thighs a little bit with her hands. You carefully watched what she was doing, already feeling excited at her movements as your breath hitches at the feeling of her hands in you.
"Is there something I can do to make you feel well treated, my love?" She asks teasingly keeping her hands to herself waiting for your response, like a whole gentleman. She’s playing and you like it. The sexual tension makes you both want more and more.
You pretend to be thoughtful but you exactly know what you want "Hm, my legs are a bit of cold." You replied meaningfully shrugging your shoulders with smirk on your lips. She understood your point perfectly as she snort moving her hand to your thigh slowly running up and down. "Is that better?" Her voice was smooth and low enjoying your skin with her hand.
"Mhm.." You hummed in response staring blankly at her veiny hand on your thigh feeling like you’re losing your mind at her touch. "You like it too?" Your question surprised her.
"More than yes." Her smirk was something that made you melt right now. You breathed deeply craving her fingers inside you. The muscles in her arms tense up and the grip in her hands tightens as she feel your soft breaths and see your cheeks blush pink. Her hand squeezed your thigh, brushing at your skin, making you feel lightheaded.
She noticed that you were already at the end of your endurance. "Can you do it harder..?" You asked quietly flustered with her gently touch. You needed more.
"Harder?" Her smirk turns into a sly grin as she raise one of her eyebrows at your request so she started to squeeze and caress your skin harder than before. She slightly looked at you, wanting to see your reaction as her grip tighten around your skin, really close your panties. You bite your lip as her fingers slid a little into your panties, driving over the material teasingly.
She hear your panting and she want to do more to you. "How about I kiss them instead?" Her smile grew bigger as she saw your reaction when her hand went lower, brushing over your sensitive spot.
Your look in the eyes where enough for her so she lowered her head to tease you with breath on your skin. You see her playing so you take your hand and place it on her head pulling her down so she can finally touch your thighs with her lips.
Her smirk stays on face as she feel your hand on her head and you pressing down on her head makes her feel like she have no choice but to do what you ask. Her mouth opens and her lips move onto your thigh, kissing it as she feel your body tense up and your soft moans make her want you even more. She kissed your skin slowly and gently but quickly she started to bite your skin leaving hickeys on your sensitive skin. Without hesitation you moaned feeling the best.
You leaned back resting your hands on the desk. She take advantage of it so she stopped for a while just to aggressively pull your fabric of dress higher to you hip line. She noticed your lace underwear, she bought you the other day. "You look sexy." Archer complimented you, then immediately started kissing your thighs higher and higher till she reached your hip line, stroking your panties with her teeth. No one could ever imagine how divinely you felt right now. She took your one leg and place it on her shoulder so she can kiss your inner thighs. That move was really sensual for you. You can feel your heart pounding so fast.
"Shit Kate…" You pant being at the edge of moaning, when she bite your thigh just few inches away from your sensitive spot. She can feel your whole body hot and really enjoying this which made her want to do more and more. She bite and kiss your thighs making the marks darker and more noticeable.
"I’ll have to hide it." You say breathless looking at your thighs all over with hickeys.
She smirk then move her mouth higher up your thigh "Do you think you can walk afterwards?" She ask flirtatiously in low voice, before giving your thigh another forceful bite. You don’t care if you won’t be able to walk, it’s to amazing too care about it now.
"You will have to carry me." You reply teasingly still wanting to play. She chuckle deeply "I have nothing against." She raises her head to look at you.
"Can I take off your panties my lady?" Her breath was stroking your skin and her voice was so gentle, and you never would deny to her when she’s like this.
"Yes.." You reply excited at her words. She pull your panties gently to completely take them off. Her eyes was consuming you craving your taste. She takes your other leg and put them both on your shoulder so she can have better access, and she gently pull you closer so she can do what she want. Your body was in heaven right now.
She started to kiss your thighs again then slowly wander to your clit at lick you slowly. You moaned feeling her tongue inside you. "Fuck.." You pant throwing your head back in pleasure. You felt more hot and hot each second.
She lick and suck your clit and it was enough for you "fuck you’re so hot." She chuckle dipping her tongue deep into you, then immediately started to massage your clit with her fingers to end your suffering. You was completely choked, breathing heavily and moaning staring to feel your legs shaking. Of course archer noticed it so she on purpose made her movements even faster, and even though you’ve already came, she wanted you to made you feel better so she didn’t stop.
"Fuck Kate." You moan having already overwhelmed. She pulled her tongue out of you but continued to massage your clit way slower now. She clenched her jaw seeing your back arched. "Enough?" She chuckled stopping her movements.
Without your response she took your legs from her shoulders to place them back on the desk but she hold you close to her as you try to calm down. She wipes your juices from under her mouth with her thumb as if it’s just dinner. You pull her by your hands on her shirt to passionate kiss. After seconds of make out you pulled away. "Kate I think I won’t be able to walk because of you." You say with little smirk barely feeling your legs.
"We still have time to that party." She added smirking at you. "You can spread it out." She chuckle "And cover." Biting her lip while looking at marks on your skin.

Heyhey, may I request something like a reader who is Clint's daughter, sucks at archery and thinks she's a disappointment to Clint. Seeing this situation and not really knowing what to do, Kate decides to help reader with some archery lessons. The lessons really help reader, but at the same time they are a distraction and the BIGGEST test of self-control not to kiss Kate while she talks about archery and invades personal space to show how it’s done.
Like– who would be 100% focused with Kate so close?? 😭😭😭
can you see right through me? [K.Bishop]
pairing: kate bishop x barton!reader
summary: you're notoriously bad at archery and somehow even worse at keeping yourself together around a certain kind-eyed archer.
warnings: none, just fluff with a side of romantic tension; kate being a flirt without realizing; very platonic touching [...not]; me pretending like i completely understand how archery works
wordcount: 1.7k
a/n: for every one fic i write where kate is confident and cocky, i have to write another one where she's dorky and awkward and confident and cocky. that's just the law of the universe. this request was a lot of fun to write so thank you. hope you enjoy <3 [also, it would take a ridiculous amount of self-control to stay focused around kate's goofy little smile]
* * * * * * *
You wouldn’t say you’re the world’s worst archer but you’re definitely close to the top of the list. It’s something that shouldn’t bother you, and maybe it wouldn't if you were anybody else. Unfortunately, you’re Hawkeye’s oldest daughter and you also happen to be the absolute worst at archery.
Even your youngest brother has better aim than you and he’s not even strong enough to pick up a bow.
Your dad swears your lack of skill doesn’t bother him but it certainly bothers you. Especially when it results in him taking on Kate Bishop as his protege instead of you.
The worst part is, Kate’s incredibly sweet so you can’t even hate her for being everything you’re not. Her love for archery is genuine, and so is her admiration for Clint.
And, okay, fine, maybe she also happens to be attractive and caring and far too charming for her own good.
You hate to admit it but you have the biggest crush on the brunette archer and it’s only gotten worse since she kindly offered to teach you how to properly shoot a bow. Your dad complained, not because he didn’t want you to learn, but because he was offended that you seriously thought Kate would be a better teacher than him. (You didn’t have the heart to tell him the real reason you accepted the brunette’s offer)
So, against your better judgment, you’ve been hanging out with Kate every day, letting her talk your ear off about the ‘proper techniques’ involved and what the best bows for beginners are. She’s clearly more excited about all of this than you are but getting to see her so often isn’t something you’re going to complain about.
“y/n, you’re not even listening.” Kate’s teasing tone brings you back to the matter at hand. Well, more like the bow in your hand.
“Sorry,” you mutter, hoping she can’t notice the nervousness in your stance.
She does, unfortunately for you, because she’s far too observant despite her scattered attention span. What she doesn’t realize, though, is that she's the reason for said nervousness.
“You’re shaking too much,” she comments. “Let me help you.”
You open your mouth to tell her you don’t need her help but all your words die in your throat the second she steps closer to you.
She’s trying to be helpful, you know that, and yet she achieves the complete opposite. Her front presses up against your back as her hands land on top of yours to stabilize your movements. “Relax. You’re trying to guide the arrow, not control it.”
You attempt to listen to her advice but relaxing is the last thing on your mind right now. Every muscle in your body is acutely aware of the brunette’s presence which causes your heart to beat faster than should ever be possible. The position you’re in doesn’t help and soon, you really do start shaking from the tension of drawing the arrow back.
She counts down for you, something that should not be as attractive as it is, and you finally let go of the bowstring and shoot the arrow into the target. A target that you miss by several feet.
You can’t even be disappointed in yourself because you’re too busy trying to regain your breath the second Kate finally steps away from you.
“Hey, at least you’re not hitting the wall anymore!” She says in what’s now become her signature ‘cheering you up’ voice.
It makes her sound ridiculous but it also makes you smile so you don’t have the heart to make fun of her for it. “I appreciate it but it’s going to take years for my aim to get better than this.”
“Oh, come on.” Her exasperated words are accompanied by an eyeroll and a step toward you that makes your breath catch in your throat. “You've already improved so much. Give me one more week and I promise you’ll be hitting that bullseye.”
You take advantage of her proximity to hand the stupid bow back to her. “You're doing that thing again.”
“What thing?” She asks, her eyebrows furrowing as she tilts her head slightly.
“The thing where you get too confident right before totally falling on your ass.”
She does her best to look annoyed but the pink hue that tints her cheeks gives her away far too quickly. “Keep talking like that and I’m canceling the lessons.”
“Wow, what a shame.”
You manage to successfully break her this time and she bursts out laughing, the sound setting free hundreds of butterflies inside your stomach. There are a lot of things to love about Kate and her laugh might be at the top of the list. (Right below her smile and her incredibly comforting hugs…not that you’ve ever noticed or anything.)
“Alright, I’ll make you a deal,” she says while getting into position to do some shooting of her own. “If I hit the bullseye three times in a row, we’re staying for fifteen more minutes.”
“And if you miss?” You ask, knowing damn well the chances of her missing are close to zero.
“If I miss…I’ll take you out to dinner instead.”
You’ve never wanted her to prove you wrong more badly than at this moment. You don’t say that out loud, though, you don’t even say anything. You just shake your head at her and do your best not to give away how much you adore her silly antics.
The thought that she’s genuinely flirting with you crosses your mind but you instantly push it away, too afraid of getting hurt to entertain the idea for too long. You’ll take what you can get and if all Kate gives you are stupid flirty jokes then that’s all you need. Hoping for more can’t end well when it comes to the brunette.
Your eyes are glued to her frame while she nocks and draws her first arrow, her muscles straining through the fabric of her purple shirt. You know she knows you’re closely watching every move she makes and the self-assured smile that graces her face has you thinking much different thoughts.
Thoughts that are shot right out of your mind as Kate hits the bullseye not three times in a row but five because she’s an annoying overachiever when she wants to be. You’d be pissed if you were unaware of the way her eyes light up with genuine excitement at her success.
“We get it, you’re the world’s greatest archer.” Your dad would disown you if he ever heard you speak those words but what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him…or at least that’s what you hope.
“Don’t sound so jealous, baby.”
Your legs shake the tiniest bit as you approach her again, taking the bow back into your hands with a huff. “Whatever. Shouldn’t you go fetch your arrows or something?”
“You sure you can handle shooting on your own?” It comes across as another one of her usual teasing comments but her eyes give away her sincerity. She truly does want to help you do well even if it means you won’t need her help anymore.
“You sound like my dad. I’ll be fine, Kate.”
The comparison distracts just enough to stop her from putting up a fight. She walks away toward the target full of her arrows and you walk a few feet away to find a new target to inevitably miss.
You go through the motions Kate patiently taught you, taking in slow breaths and forcing yourself to focus. You’re not fully focused on yourself though. Rather, you visualize the kind-hearted archer and repeat what you’ve seen her do a thousand times at this point.
Time seems to slow down as your eyes hone in on the bullseye and you let the arrow fly. It soars through the air and misses the bullseye by a few inches. But you finally managed to hit the target instead of the wall behind it or the floor in front of it.
You actually did it.
And there’s only one person to thank for that.
“Kate!” You throw the bow down onto the ground in your excitement, your eyes searching for the brunette only to find her already looking at you with the most gorgeous smile on her face.
“You did it!”
She opens her arms for you and you waste no time in running toward her, crashing into her body with a laugh. Her arms slide down your waist and before you know it, she’s picking you up and spinning you around in a giddy haze.
You wrap your legs around her waist without a second thought before looking down at her. “Thank you,” you whisper, your voice slightly breathless from your moment of celebration.
She instantly shakes her head, strands of her soft yet messy hair waving around in the process. “That was all you, y/n. I knew you could do it.”
You’re ready to argue back and insist you’d be lost without her but you make the mistake of letting your eyes wander for a second too long.
Maybe it’s the excitement or the adrenaline still pumping through your veins or maybe it’s Kate herself. You don’t know what it is that makes you work up the courage to finally kiss her, you just know it’s the only thing you want right now.
So, you do it.
You lean in and press your lips to hers in a way that borders on desperate. If she notices, she has no complaints about it because she kisses you back just as passionately. And nothing has ever felt as right as this.
You reluctantly pull away from her and attempt to catch your breath. Something that completely fails due to the way Kate is looking at you. She’s got that soft look in her eyes that can only mean one thing. “So…I’m guessing you like me?”
Yup, there it is.
“You’re a dork.”
“Hmm…maybe.” She sneaks in another kiss that you happily accept. “But this dork would love to take you on a date. If you want.”
“I do want that…but only if you’re paying.” You joke before she sets you back down on the ground.
“Golddigger.”
“Shut up.”

Alright friend, so when I was watching Hawkeye and it's the scene where he's talking with Kate about the cost of being a hero. It gave me an idea, so I was thinking kate, yelena and reader are on a mission to scout an abandoned hydra base or something. Kate and reader enter a room when they are looking at a computer, reader hears a bomb. They both look around and when they find it it's about to explode. So reader pushes kate out of the room and shuts the door to protect her or if you like it better I was also thinking of reader getting shot saving kate or something while fighting hydra agents. Anyway, however you want reader to get hurt. So then at the compound in the med bay, reader is on life support when kate calls clint and just starts breaking down saying how she understands the cost now. Clint ends up coming to the compound to help kate. Reader ends up being ok in the end though cause kate deserves to be happy. I was thinking for a title you could call it the cost or something like that. Sorry sounds cliché I know, especially the title. Anyway, you're the best 💖 Also bonus points for having reader be yelena's younger sister and sorry if I rambled to much
The Cost
Pairing: Kate Bishop x Super Soldier! Reader
Summary: After saving Kate from a bomb, it opens the archer’s eyes to a much, much bigger picture about her new job.
Angst | Fluff | Mentions of Blood | Medical Talk | They/Them Pronouns Used | 1.4K |
AC: Thank you for sending this! I’m so happy to do some more Kate content, I made reader a Super Soldier for this, I hope that’s okay x
Not a second thought went through your mind when you pushed Kate out of the room that held the data you and Kate were collecting. The bomb went off not even a second after Kate was pushed to safety, not leaving you a chance to get yourself to safety as the building fell on top of you. Kate was speechless as she searched the rubble for you, back up was on the way but even when they arrived, Kate didn't stop looking for you.
When you were found, all Kate could see was how much blood covered your body and instantly she thought the worst. Tears filled her eyes as the others made sure to get you to safety and take you back to the compound's medical center. Kate was beside herself as she waited outside your medical bay while the medical team did their best to keep you alive. If it wasn't for the fact that you were a super soldier, there would be no way you'd have survived the blast of the bomb.
It didn't matter how many times Kate replayed the situation over and over in her head, she knew you saved her life when you pushed her out the window of that room. Anytime Kate saw a nurse come out of the medical room, she would stop them and ask for an update but just like any hospital, they couldn't give the young archer any update until the doctor had completed the operation. Hours would pass before Kate would have any news on your condition.
"For now, they're in a medical induced coma to help their body heal. We won't know anything further until they wake up" Bruce explained to the team, but more so to Kate who felt sick to her stomach with worry.
You've been Kate's work partner for a little over a year now but only recently over the course of a couple of months have the two of you kindled a romance. Its new and exciting to the two of you which is why nobody else knew about it just yet. Besides, you'd be lying if you said you were slightly scared of what Clint might say considering how close he and Kate are. She's basically his adopted daughter and he's very protective of her.
"But they're going to be okay, right?!" Kate asked with a worried tone, she just needed Bruce to assure her that you were okay because she called the one person, she knew would help her through this situation.
"Right now, yes but until they wake up, we won't know if there us anything further that needs attention" he replied. It wasn't exactly jumping for joy news, but it was enough for Kate to calm down for a moment and excuse herself form the room.
"Clint, I need you to come to the compound, please" Kate's broken voice spoke through the phone.
"Is everything okay?!" Clint asked in an instant worried tone.
"I just…I need you here, I understand now" Kate replied.
"Understand what? Kate, are you okay? What's happened?"
"It all happened so fast, we were just getting data from this Hydra base when Y/n noticed an active bomb….it was already too late to run, they pushed me out the window before I had a chance to help them" Kate broke as she recalled the events that took place. Tears streamed down her face as she hoped you'd be okay. "The building just came down, there wasn't anything I could do Clint" Kate added in a sob, her words breaking with every tear that streamed down her face.
Clint gave the young avenger a moment of silence, already packing his overnight bag and writing a note for Laura to see later. "Kate, I'm on my way, okay?" he spoke, breaking the silence.
Kate nodded, even though she knew Clint couldn't see her action. "I need them to be okay" she sobbed.
"I know sweetheart, I know" Clint replied, not afraid to show her his caring side. "I'm on my way, just hang in there for me, can you do that?" he added.
"Yeah" Kate wiped her tears even though it felt pointless as more tears filled the place of the last ones.
----
Clint arrived and found Kate sitting by your bedside when her hand gently resting on top of your left, her thumb gently stroking your knuckles. The thought of you knowing she was by your side helped calm her wondering thoughts as she would tell you repeatedly how much she needed you to be okay.
"How are they?" Clint asked, quietly taking a few steps into the room. Kate looked up at him, her exhausted expression worried him. "Bruce said we won't know anything else until they wake up" Kate explained.
"What about you? Have you been checked out?"
"I'm fine, just a couple of cuts and bruises" Kate replied before she looked back at you, "they saved me Clint, without a second thought….they just pushed me out the window and I'm not sure how I didn't understand it before, but now I get it…this is the cost" Kate looked back at Clint with teary eyes, "I could lose them" she added.
"You can't think that way" Clint replied, placing a hand on her shoulder as he looked into her eyes, "yeah, this is the cost and there is a chance you or somebody on your team could lose their life but that's what makes you fight harder so that doesn't happen. Y/n's first thought was to protect you, to keep you safe and they did that. They are willing to risk their life to make sure you're okay and this is the cost they took. When it comes to life-or-death moments, there isn't time to think, you just do. This is why we train as hard as we do and why are so annoying with going over mission details to help prevent things like this happening." Clint added.
Kate's tears broke and once again formed another stream down her face as Clint wrapped his arms around the younger woman, holding her close for comfort.
----
6 months later and you were back on your feet like nothing happened, a few scars to remember but you made a full recovery.
"What's on your mind pretty?" you asked, breaking Kate's train of thought as she staired into space. "Huh? Oh, just you" she replied with a soft smile.
"That looked like some intense thoughts" you chuckled, "good ones I hope" you added. Kate wandered over to you and straddled your lap before softly pressing her lips against yours, "promise me you won't scare me like that again?" she spoke.
"What? Bring you back from your thoughts?" you asked, gently rubbing her back.
"No, I mean" Kate paused for a moment, "I don't want to lose you, ever! Clint told me something a couple of years back, you know, before I became an avenger. This job comes with a cost an-"
"Baby, listen to me" you stopped Kate's worrying thoughts leaving her lips, "it's going to take much more than a bomb explosion to get rid of me, I knew there was no way the two of us were going to get out of that room safely and I knew I'd have a much higher fighting chance at surviving the bomb because of the serum" you couldn't help by brush a lock of her long dark hair behind her ear.
"I wake up every morning worried that something might happen to you on a mission or just by doing day to day things, I wish I could protect you from every single thing but it's not how life goes but if I can protect you, I will, without a second thought" you added while looking into her eyes.
"But what if one day you don't make it? That's what I'm worried about baby" Kate replied as her hands rested peacefully on your shoulders. "Kate, honey, let's not think about the what ifs, let's think about the now. I'm here and I'm okay. You're here and you're okay, we have each other and to me, that's all that matters. I'm not going anywhere, I promise" you cupped her face gently, pulling her closer to your lips as you kissed her deeply. "I love you" Kate whispered between kisses. A smile tugged at your lips before you kissed her once more, "I love you too baby" you replied.

No More Excuses//Katelena
Chapter 1: Intruder- But Wait, She’s Hot!
Pairing: Kate Bishop x Yelena Belova
Story Summary: Kate Bishop enjoys a relaxed and well deserved Christmas with the Barton family and stays with them into the new year. But once she returns home to New York, she finds that someone had been waiting for her to get back from her holiday vacation.
A certain Black Widow assassin.
——
Yelena Belova spends Christmas Day cold, miserable, and alone. The loss of Natasha sits heavy on her chest, and now that she has nowhere to elsewhere channel her anger and grief, Yelena has no choice but to rot in it.
Or perhaps she can make an effort to befriend the newest Hawkeye.
Content Warnings: mental illness, medication, depression, anxiety, talk of character death, fight scenes, blood, gore, weapons, injuries, the Red Room, nightmares, angst, alcohol, harassment, intoxication, drugs, talk about/implied adult content, death, PTSD, trauma, assault, talk of overdose, talk of suicide, talk of self harm, talk of sexual assault, men being horrible, stupid lesbian pinning. Warnings will also be at the head of every chapter.
A/N: I absolutely adore this little story of mine. I’ve been posting it on Wattpad for several months, but recently got my tumblr up and running, and wanted to share it here! Here’s chapter one of many.
Chapter warnings: depression, ‘home invasion’
“And you’re sure you have enough food and cash to keep you going?”
Kate Bishop felt herself getting slightly exasperated as she laughed, throwing her arms around Clint in a hug. “Clint, for the last time, I’ll be fine!” The man huffed a sigh and held her tightly, patting her back before letting go.
“Okay kiddo, if you’re sure. I just know that it gets cold and if you’re ever lonely you can-”
“Come visit your family any time I want, I know,” Kate finished for him, grinning softly.
He pursed his lips and nodded, looking down at his feet and around Kate’s rather interesting apartment. Clint shook his head and coughed slightly, sucking in a breath before looking back up to her. “You’re gonna do great.”
“Aw, are you gonna miss me?”
“Nah, kid, just the dust and dog fur.”
“You’re crying, Clint!”
The Avenger let a short laugh out, clearing his throat as the sound turned tearful. “Men can cry,” he muttered, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Kate pouted and opened her arms again, and Clint took only a moment before shuffling into them and giving her another tight hug. They stayed like that for a moment, hesitant father and ecstatic daughter.
Kate squeezed him one more time, willing the tears to stay back. “Thanks for giving me a good Christmas, Clint. The best, really,” she choked out.
The past couple of weeks had completely turned Kate’s life upside down. Understandably so, of course, seeing as she met her idol, almost died several times, and turned her mother in to the police. (That’s the short version, anyway.) Now, after finally returning home from spending Christmas and New Year’s with the wonderful Barton family, Kate wasn’t sure she could go back to any semblance of normal.
“You deserve the best of anything, Katie,” Clint said softly, patting her cheek. “I’ll miss you kiddo.”
The two eventually parted ways after several more similar exchanges, and once Clint was safely back on his way to the airport, Kate sighed heavily through her nose. Lucky perked up from where he lay sprawled out on the kitchen floor, likely waiting to be fed, and gave a little whine.
“Awwww- poor puppy needs to eat, huh?” Kate muttered softly, turning to look at her canine friend and doing her best to ignore the pit forming in her stomach. Lucky’s eye brightened as he sat and up thumped his tail eagerly, licking his chops as if to say, ‘yes absolutely he does need to eat, thank you for noticing.’
The archer dug out the last of the leftover airport pizza from the fridge and tossed it up in the air for Lucky to catch, giggling and crumpling up the old box as he barked excitedly for the treat. Not a drop even touched the floor.
Kate whistled and sat against a cabinet, arms open for Lucky to snuggle into. “You’re getting good there, Pizza Dog,” she whispered, burying her face into his ridiculously soft golden fur. He huffed a breath and wiggled around until he could lick her face.
“I love you too, silly puppy.”
They stayed on the kitchen floor longer than Kate cared to remember, but eventually the cold of the tiles bit through her pants and into her butt and she forced herself to her feet. After the chaos and perpetually constant noise she had grown accustomed to recently, her apartment was almost alien in its strange quietness.
She looked down to Lucky, who stared up at her adoringly with a little doggy grin. “What now, huh?”
He just continued to look at her. Kate nodded in agreement. “Shower. Cleaning. Probably sorting groceries and getting more, seeing as Clint’s idea of groceries is extremely limited. Good idea.”
They took a nap instead, both passing out on the couch as soon as they sat down. A jet lagged dog is no joke.
——
Kate jolted awake to a sharp sound from outside, her head spinning and body uncomfortably warm. Lucky’s weight stayed heavy on her stomach, his tongue lolling as he snored softly and kicked at the armrest. Whatever had woken Kate clearly did not bother him.
Another thump, and Kate groggily pushed herself up onto her elbows, eyes squinting against the dark. Her chest squeezed tightly. “Hello?” she called out, speech thick with sleep. Lucky did not wake up.
There was a slow creak, and Kate could vaguely make out the shine of moonlight on a moving windowpane as a dark figure pushed its way into her apartment.
Ah hell no. Kate jolted up, suddenly wide awake as adrenaline shot down her spine. Lucky tumbled from her lap and flopped around on the couch for a confused moment, still not even bothered to be alarmed that his home was quite literally being broken into. Kate ignored the part of her mind that whispered about the familiarity of that window being opened and instead opted to hop over the couch and rush for her bow and the light switch on the far wall.
The lightbulbs had barely warmed enough to brighten the space by the time Kate had a net trick arrow strained in the direction of the intruder, and to her shock and horror, the figure was already so close that she could make out the details of her chunky silver rings.
Wait…
Kate’s mind finally caught up to her racing heartbeat, and her dinky kitchen lights flickered fully to life to reveal none other than Yelena Belova, the assassin who had tried to kill Clint just a few short weeks ago. The woman was so much closer than Kate expected to be humanly possible with the distance she had to travel from the window to here, but she showed no signs of exertion and almost had a rather pleasant look on her face.
Kate, in turn, could only stare with wide eyes as she kept her arrow notched and pointed directly between Yelena’s hazel eyes, chest heaving.
The blonde tilted her head softly, shifting into a more relaxed position as she looked Kate up and down. Stands of golden hair fell over one shoulder. She even had the gall to pop a hip and almost smile at the woman in front of her as if she hadn’t just invaded the archer’s home.
“Kate Bishop,” Yelena said, her lips twitching. “You’re back.”
“...What the hell!?”

So. Yeah. Mariko and Yukio haven't gotten to do much in this film.
Fortunately, they carry the final boss fight. Given that this story rightfully belongs to them moreso than Logan, that's pretty cool, actually.
While Viper's out there trying to extract Logan's healing factor, Mariko kicks us off by weaponizing her lampness. Harada comes at her like, "You'll be my lamp now, right?"
HAHAHA GET STABBED FUCKO Princess is rescuing herself from this castle.
Then she does it again immediately after. While Yashida is preparing to slice off Logan's claws with a heated adamantium sword, Mariko jumps in front like "Whatcha gonna do, stab me, YOUR LAMP!?!?"
Yashida's forced to swerve his swing at the last second and accidentally cut the chair open, setting Wolverine free. Though I'm sure there's a hilarious parallel universe where he decapitates Logan instead.
I'm honestly not sure how his sword works? Like. It's an adamantium blade that heats up to be super ultra hot so it can cut through adamantium. But. Like. Wouldn't that weaken the adamantium of the blade? If his blade is so hot that adamantium can be cut through like butter, then the adamantium of the sword should fall apart like butter.
Weird.
Harada switches sides and takes out Viper because she's about to attack Mariko. She didn't do that one on purpose but I'll count it 'cause it's still in a scene where she's weaponizing her lampness and making it work for her.
We all fight with the tools we're given. Agency isn't about how many superpowers she has; It's about what she does with the hand she's dealt.
Which is how we get to the main throwdown for the Final Boss Fight: Wolverine vs. the Silver Samurai.
Viper's fine, mind you. She gets up and starts taking off her clothes while the men are fighting because that's how her regeneration works I guess.
She has to shed her skin like a snake to heal from the arrow. Thematically, it makes sense, though it's funny that the X-franchise found a way to squeeze in another female mutant who has to get naked to use her superpowers.
They're at least more tasteful about it than the preceding films have been with Mystique, however. What you see above is all that's shown. She's shot from collarbone up just for long enough to start ripping off her face and then she's fully dressed next time we see her again.
For Logan's part, this fight goes really badly for him. He loses one set of claws on the catwalk.
And the other near the end of the fight.
He gets fucking worked over like he's never been worked before.
Harada doesn't fare much better.
Japanese Hawkeye shoots an arrow with pinpoint accuracy into the Silver Samurai's eye-slit, but then forgets that he's a ninja again and decides to go reason with him.
So. Y'know. His cause of death is being absolutely terrible at reading the room. And at being a ninja. Fantastic archer, though. Amazing at kyudo. Really should have stuck with that.
So. Yeah. The men are getting fucking shitstomped here. Wolverine does use Harada's stupid, pointless death as an opportunity to figure out the heated adamantium swords and decapitate the Silver Samurai.
But it accomplished fuck-all because it turns out that men are not actually eleven feet tall. That "head" was purely decorative to make the powered armor look cool.
"You fell for my trap of thinking that a man tall enough to wear this like normal actually existed." XD
You know, it's not that surprising that Yashida faked his death in the grand scheme of things. But the reveal that the Super Shredder over here is just a mech suit piloted by a decrepit old man is really funny.
Fortunately, things are going much better for the women. Yukio FINALLY! GETS! TO! BE! COOL!
It's by Designated Girl Fighting with Viper 'cause stories created by men sometimes get really nervous about letting male heroes fight female villains, and will rope in either male villains or female heroes to do it instead. Yeah, I see you, movie that has managed to ensure Wolverine's claws never actually come anywhere near the one female villain in the entire film.
But at this point, I'll take it. Yukio gets to fight someone cool, she gets to look awesome doing it, and she actually wins.
Hangs Viper with a cord and then breaks her neck via leverage. Fuck yes. Eat shit, Viper.
Viper can't just take off her clothes to fix that, I guess, because her neck is broken so her hands don't work anymore. Kryptonite factor.
Meanwhile, the main thrust of the Final Boss Fight is going very, very badly for Wolverine.
Yeah, he. Uh. He loses this fight. Logan loses the Final Boss Fight. In a movie called The Wolverine, Wolverine loses both of his claws, gets incapacitated by the Final Boss, and has his bones drilled into to steal his regeneration.
There will be no sudden turnaround for him. No second wind where he gets a brilliant idea and brings it back around. He just. Fucking. Loses.
Letting the character whose story this really should be instead of him be the one to put an end to it instead.
Taking Logan's own fucking severed claws for herself.
Credit where it's due, she's only able to do this because Logan cut his helmet off earlier. But it's still both surprising and refreshing that it's Mariko, not Logan, who defeats Silver Samurai.
She even does it with a sneak attack via throwing the first blade. Because unlike Harada, she fucking paid attention in Ninja Class.
Logan killsteals with his regenerated bone claws at the very end but. Like. He already has one adamantium blade in his brain and the other in his throat. Yashida had a remaining life expectancy measurable in seconds as it was.
Mariko and Yukio are, surprisingly, the MVPs of this battle. Good for them.

Hawkeye (Part II)
Summary: Clint reaches out to (Y/N) for help and after a visit with the physically and mentally taxed archer, she takes it upon herself to meet Hawkeye’s #1 fan and impart a little wisdom onto Clint’s young partner.
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Fem!Reader
Word Count: 4.1k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: This week's chapter is a little longer because (a) I'm not sure I'll have Part III finished by next Thursday and (b) You guys deserve it!! There's a surprise character that'll pop up in the second half of this chapter and if you've seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, then I think you'll know who it is lol thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!
Hawkeye (Part II) December 21st, 2024 Apartment of Moira Brandon, East Village (Previous Chapter)
Out of all the Avengers she’d been introduced to during that fateful party at the Avengers Tower so many years ago, (Y/N) always had a secret soft spot for Clint Barton; he was equal parts kind and sarcastic, quickly noting the anxiety she’d been desperately trying to mask from the moment she arrived and taking the time to get to know her while simultaneously directing playful jabs at his fellow teammates. Their first meeting and team-up in the subsequent conflict with Ultron coupled with Natasha’s endless stories from their days of working together at S.H.I.E.L.D. cemented (Y/N)’s unbreakable trust in the archer, and it was that trust that led her to an average-looking East Village apartment building only four days before Christmas with a priceless and top-secret piece of S.W.O.R.D. technology tucked away in her messenger bag.
“Thanks for coming on such short notice, (Y/L/N),” Clint smiled as he ushered her into the temporary safe house, checking up and down the hall before locking the door and leading her into the cozy living room. “See any of those idiot Tracksuits tailing you?”
(Y/N) shrugged her winter coat off and draped it over the back of the couch with a humorless chuckle. “Nope, but I almost wish I had; I could’ve used a good laugh or two after that horrendous traffic jam on the Brooklyn Bridge.” She folded her pink scarf in half and tossed it on top of her coat, meeting Clint’s eyes with a sardonic smirk beginning to spread across her face. “Wouldn’t you know, some dumb-ass archer decided to impale a Pym Particle-infused arrow into the Manhattan Bridge and create commute hell for anyone traveling in or out of Brooklyn?”
Rolling his eyes, Clint flopped down onto the well-worn couch and sighed in exasperation; he looked exhausted, with darkened circles under his eyes and a noticeable cut on his forehead. “Still a smart-ass, I see. For your information, I shot a Pym Particle-infused arrow at a regular arrow and then it impaled itself into the bridge.”
“Well, either way, I thought you’d like to know that Scott got his ass chewed out by Hank for that little stunt,” She replied in amusement and sat herself down on the couch beside him, taking a moment to adjust her sweater over her small baby bump before rummaging through her messenger bag. “Apparently, Hank’s not too fond of his life’s work being used for – and I quote – ‘stupid shit you see on the eleven o’clock news.’”
The archer scoffed at that. “I once saw the guy use Pym Particles to enlarge a goddamn chicken sandwich, but whatever.”
(Y/N) laughed as she withdrew a small metal case and handed it over to Clint. “Back-up hearing aid, as requested; my coworker said that this is one of the best on the market, so you should be well-covered if yours ends up breaking again.” He nodded in thanks and slipped the case into his pocket. Her former teammate’s recent hearing loss as a result of years of work as a S.H.I.E.L.D. spy, Avenger and vigilante inspired her to seek out Brooklyn College’s underfunded but resilient disability resource center; she studied ASL and learned enough to not only begin teaching Steve and Carina, but to also pre-film her lectures for any hard of hearing student who decided to enroll in her Introduction to American Popular Culture course. “And I looked into that socialite guy for you…” Activating the transparent S.W.O.R.D. tablet – a parting gift from Nick Fury before he traveled up to the organization’s newly-built space station – (Y/N) allowed it to scan her handprint and read off the information she’d collected. “Jack Duquesne, born into the obscenely-wealthy Duquesne family that’s apparently descended from European aristocracy. Since he’s seemingly never worked a day in his life, he’s had enough free time to become an expert swordsman and accrue a pretty impressive sword collection; is that what he was doing at that black market auction the other night?”
Clint nodded as he studied the images on the tablet’s screen. “He wanted to add the Ronin’s sword to his collection; according to Kate, he ran off with it after the Tracksuits crashed the auction, and then he almost took my head off with it when we broke into her mom’s penthouse this morning.” When (Y/N) thoughtfully tilted her head to the side, his frown deepened. “What?”
“When I did a little more digging, I found out that Duquesne is listed as the CEO of Sloan Limited. It’s a shell company, one that launders money for none other than-”
“The Tracksuit Mafia…” The archer exhaled and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and rubbing a hand over his forehead. “Kate thinks that Jack Duquesne killed his uncle Armand. At first, I thought the idea of him becoming her stepfather someday was clouding her judgement but it’s looking like her instincts might’ve been right.”
Taking note of the stiffness in his movements and the weary tone of his voice, (Y/N) tucked the tablet back into her messenger bag as she gave him a sympathetic smile. “None of what I found out really helped you, did it?”
“It helped, (Y/L/N), it really did…” Clint hastily reassured her. “But I’m no closer to being able to go home for Christmas. I’ve got the suit and the sword, but Maya Lopez and the Tracksuits still have me and Kate connected to the Ronin and there’s a good chance that they’ve got Laura’s Rolex; I can’t leave until I track it down and figure out a way to stop the Tracksuits from targeting Kate, and I’ve gotta do all that before Kingpin gets involved.” He sat back and offered her a small smile. “The Barton Family Christmas hit a little speed-bump, as you can tell, so how’s the Rogers-(Y/L/N) Family Christmas going so far?”
“Well, Carina helped us decorate cookies and gingerbread houses for the vets down at the VA hospital yesterday, and then she decided that our living room wall could use a thick coat of frosting as well.” Clint burst into laughter and (Y/N) couldn’t help but join him. “Steve’s convinced that she’s got the makings of an artist, but I just think she likes to keep us on our toes. And this little gumball…” Beaming, she rubbed a hand across her bump. “Moved for the first time this morning.”
“That’s amazing! Boy or girl?”
“We don’t know yet, but we’re gonna open the envelope my doctor sealed for us together on Christmas Day and find out.” Memories of her first pregnancy and the overwhelming loneliness she struggled with unwittingly came to the forefront of her mind, but she forced herself to ignore them as she continued. “I’ve never really been one for big gender reveals, but after Carina’s…shall we say, unconventional birth and everything we’ve been through since, I just wanted this pregnancy to be special for us.”
A look of understanding crossed Clint’s bruised face, as he was one of the few Avengers who could empathize with desiring balance between a normal family life and the superhero life they’d been thrust into, but he merely smirked and jokingly replied, “Well, if you’re still thinking of baby names, I’ve always thought that Clint Rogers-(Y/L/N) had a nice ring to it.”
(Y/N) snorted in amusement. “Oh, really? You know, I’ve heard the same exact thing about Sam Rogers-(Y/L/N), James Bucky Rogers-(Y/L/N), Bruce Rogers-(Y/L/N), Thor Rogers-(Y/L/N), Korg Rogers-(Y/L/N) and Rocket Rogers-(Y/L/N).”
“I’m not usually one to judge, but I’ll totally judge you if you name your kid after a talking raccoon or a big pile of rocks.” When his chuckles died down, the archer’s blue-grey eyes softened as they looked between her face and the bump she was unconsciously cradling. “I’m really happy for you guys, and I know…I know that Nat and Tony would be, too.”
After flashing him a thankful smile, (Y/N) leaned her elbow on the back of the couch and rested her temple against the palm of her hand. “So, what’s this Kate Bishop like?”
“A pain in my ass,” Clint bluntly replied and when she lightly scoffed at his answer, he crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m serious! That kid’s cocky, reckless and she talks way too much…but I can’t deny that she’s a damn good archer and her instincts are sharp.” His brow arched as a thoughtful expression crossed his injured features. “You know, she reminds me a little of you, actually; she put that suit on to protect innocent people from the Tracksuits without a single thought for her own safety, just like how you volunteered to help an Air Force vet and a couple of wanted Avengers save the world from Hydra without a single thought for your own safety.”
(Y/N), detecting a hint of concern in her friend’s tone of voice, nodded in understanding. “You’re worried about her.”
Clint nodded. “Damn right I am. You were twenty-seven when you helped Steve, Nat and Sam stop Project Insight, and Kate’s only twenty-two; you understood the risks of getting involved in this sort of life, but Kate…she’s got blinders on. I tried to make her understand that I’m not a role model, that I’m not someone that people should look up to and that this life I’ve led for the past twenty years isn’t a game but like I already told you, she’s cocky and reckless.”
“She doesn’t know about the Ronin, does she?” When Clint shook his head, (Y/N) bit her lip and carefully contemplated her next words before speaking. “Maybe the reason you can’t get through to her is because you haven’t shown her the real you and she can sense that you’re hiding something from her; if you open up to her now, then you might be able to stop her from getting too deep into all this.” He shrugged his shoulder, but she could see that she hadn’t convinced him to confide in his reluctant partner; she glanced down at her wristwatch and hummed to herself. “Well, I should probably head out now if I want to beat the commute traffic to Brooklyn…”
“Yeah, and I should give Laura and the kids a call before I pass out from exhaustion.” Clint helped her to her feet and gave her a fond smile as she pulled her coat and scarf back on. “It’s been good seeing you, (Y/L/N), and I really appreciate your help. Tell Steve that I said hi and that he should totally name his second-born after one of his oldest and coolest friends, okay?”
“Sure thing, Hawkeye,” (Y/N) chuckled, slinging the strap of her messenger bag over her shoulder as they walked over to the apartment’s front door and giving her friend a hug, careful of his bruised and battle-worn limbs as she did. “Good luck, Clint. You’re going to fix this and you’re going to make it home for your Barton Family Christmas and on Christmas Day, we’ll give you guys a call to let you know if it’s a boy or a girl.”
“Aye aye, Captain.” With a smile and a teasing salute, Clint opened the door and watched her head towards the building’s elevator before retreating into the temporary safe house.
(Y/N) stepped into the elevator and after the door slid closed, the uneasy feeling that had begun to form when the topic of Kate Bishop came up only seemed to deepen as the elevator descended. It was foolish to further embroil herself in Clint’s struggle against the Tracksuits; not only was she entering her pregnancy’s second trimester but if a powerful man like Kingpin caught wind that she was involved, it could put Steve’s secret life in jeopardy and their family’s safety at risk. But it was Clint’s comparison of Kate to (Y/N) that compelled her to pull the S.W.O.R.D. tablet out of her messenger bag and research the young archer’s cell phone number.
“I sure hope that I’m doing the right thing, Nat,” She murmured under her breath as she worked. “For Kate and for Clint’s sakes…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later, (Y/N) was seated at one of the rickety metal tables outside Greenwich Village’s own Joe’s Pizza, patiently waiting for the twenty-two-year-old to work through her star-struck awe while she enjoyed a slice of pizza and scratched the young archer’s rescue Golden Retriever behind his ear.
“Holy shit, I can’t believe I’ve met two Avengers in less than a week! Is this, like, some sort of a superhero test? Or a trial period or somethin’? I mean, I’ve only been in four-ish fights so far…or wait, was it five? I don’t know, I can’t really remember ‘cause I’m pretty much running on caffeine and adrenaline at this point,” Kate nervously chuckled, a little out of breath as she finally stopped rambling and attempted to rearrange her excited features into a nonchalant smile. “…So, um, what can I do for you, Ms. (Y/L/N)?”
“Please, just call me (Y/N).” Smiling, (Y/N) took another bite of her pizza slice and used it to point at Kate. “I’ve heard a lot about you from our mutual friend, so I wanted to meet you for myself.”
The young archer’s brows raised almost comically. “R-Really? Wow, that’s really…was it all good things you heard?”
“Mm-hmm, and I also saw the video of you rescuing this good boy on the news.” The one-eyed Golden Retriever nuzzled his face against her lap and perked up when she tore her slice of pizza in half, wolfing it down in record time once she offered it to him. “He’s lucky that someone as skilled as you came along when you did.” After watching the dog enjoy his chunk of pizza, she looked back up at Kate and sobered as her eyes fixated on the steri-strips that closed the lacerations that were scattered across her youthful face. “Actually, I asked you to meet me here because I wanted to talk to you about this case you’re working with Clint.”
Kate slumped in her seat, a dejected frown beginning to form on her injured face while she took a halfhearted bite of her pepperoni pizza slice. “You think I should stay home and let Clint handle it, don’t you? That’s what my mom thinks, too; she didn’t say anything about it to me, but I know she thinks I’m crazy for doing this. I mean, I’m just a civilian and Clint’s a freaking Avenger, so I guess I see why it’s nuts that I’m helping him out, but I…I can’t just sit back when I know that I can help.”
Smiling a little to herself, (Y/N) dabbed at her lips with a napkin and shook her head. “Kate, I’m the last person on the planet who’d ever tell you to stay home and ignore the instinct to help. I was just a civilian when I helped Steve, Nat and Sam take down Hydra – an unpublished historical-fiction novelist with a part-time job at the V.A., who just so happened to be one of only two people in D.C. that a couple of wanted Avengers could trust. They tried their hardest to make me stay home and out of danger but I refused, because I knew that I could help them. I had to help, no matter what, and nothing they’d say could change my mind.”
“So, you understand why I’m still helping Clint?” The young archer’s expression brightened and she sat up in her seat. “That’s great!” When (Y/N) didn’t immediately answer, her head tilted to the side in confusion. “…Isn’t it?”
“You and I are a lot alike and because I see so much of myself in you, I wanted to tell you what I wish someone had told me ten years ago, when I took my first steps into the life of an Avenger.” (Y/N)’s fingers caressed the content Golden Retriever’s fur, taking small comfort in his calming presence as she continued. “When you choose to spend your life trying to help people, there’s going to be consequences you’ll have to face. Some of the consequences won’t come as a surprise – the fights and battles have taken a physical and mental toll on me, for example, and I’ll have to live with their effects on my body and on my mind for the rest of my life – but others will. From the moment it began, my entire career’s been called into question; you see, people assume that my success is due to my long-time association with the Avengers and not the writing skills I’ve worked my ass off developing and perfecting. I lost any chance at anonymity or a private life when I announced my engagement to Steve Rogers. I became estranged from my family, because they didn’t approve of my relationship or my association with the Avengers. I went through the joy of befriending some of the kindest and most misunderstood people in the world, and then I was forced to mourn them in a way that no one but my fellow Avengers could ever understand; the world lost Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther and the Vision, but I lost Tony, Nat, T’Challa and Vis.”
Kate bowed her head and stared down at the discarded pizza crust on her plate. “And you lost Steve, too.”
(Y/N) nodded mutely, careful to keep up the ruse that Steve Rogers died in the Battle of Earth and wasn’t currently wrapping Christmas gifts with their fifteen-month old daughter in their Brooklyn home. “When you face the threats that Clint and I have faced, you have to accept that there’s going to be things that you lose along the way. I don’t tell you any of this to dissuade you, Kate, far from it; I’ve always believed that if you feel that you can help, then it’s your moral obligation to do so.” She reached across the table and rested a comforting hand atop Kate’s, giving her a small smile when her eyes finally met hers. “But it’s important that you know that this life isn’t easy, and it’s only fair that you hear it from one of the only Avengers who stumbled into this life the way you have. Do you understand?”
Kate nodded, and the brief silence that filled the air as (Y/N) finished her slice of pizza was broken by a timid question. “Do you know who the Ronin is?”
“…I know who they used to be,” (Y/N) carefully replied. “But if you want to know more about the Ronin, then you’ll have to ask Clint.”
“Urgh, I knew you’d say something cryptic like that. Hey, what’re Clint’s favorite Christmas movies and does he have any strong opinions about ugly Christmas sweaters?”
After (Y/N) helped Kate plan out the perfect mini-Christmas party for a homesick Clint, she bid the young archer and her energetic Golden Retriever goodbye and watched them both stroll down the sidewalk with a fond smile on her face. It was clear to her that Kate’s heart was in the right place, and that perhaps she was the perfect person to help Clint move on from the Ronin as well as resolve the ongoing conflict with the Tracksuits. I just hope they’ll both stay safe, she thought as she anxiously bit her lower lip and stroked her small baby bump, her mind preoccupied with a myriad of the worst possible outcomes to the archers’ partnership.
“Here you go, Ms. (Y/L/N): one large chicken and olive pizza to go,” The young worker’s sudden appearance shook (Y/N) out of her heavy thoughts and after setting the pizza box down, he started to bus the table with a small smile on his face. “Need any packets of Parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes?”
“No, thank you, I-” (Y/N) cut herself off when her eyes caught sight of a familiar well-worn paperback sticking out of the teenager’s back pocket and she felt herself begin to grin. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a copy of For Queen and Country with its original cover art. How’re you enjoying it?”
He nodded enthusiastically. “It’s one of my favorite books!” The young worker’s gaze briefly met hers as a light blush dusted his cheeks; there was a brief flash of grief in his brown eyes – a deep sort of grief that looked entirely out of place in the eyes of a teenager – but it soon vanished when a bashful expression graced his features. “I’ve been a fan for a pretty long time, Ms. (Y/L/N), and I was actually workin’ up the courage to come out here and ask you for your autograph. I don’t wanna bug you or overstep-”
“Of course I’ll autograph your copy!” (Y/N)’s smile widened as he stammered out a brief thanks and scrambled to hand her the paperback and his server’s pen. “Who should I make it out to?”
“Peter, Peter Parker.” Again, (Y/N) was struck by the strange emotion that flashed across his face, but what gave her pause was the sudden familiarity that his name brought her; she couldn’t put her finger on it, but something about the teenager’s name tugged at the far reaches of her mind. Doing her best to shrug the unsettled feeling off, she jotted down a brief greeting and signed her name before blowing on the drying ink and handing the book and pen back with a smile. “Thanks a lot, Ms. (Y/L/N)! It was good seein’ you agai-um, sorry, I think my manager’s callin’ me, happy holidays!”
Peter Parker, who’d abruptly turned as white as a sheet, shoved his book and pen into his pocket and scooped up the dirty dishes before practically sprinting back inside. (Y/N)’s brow arched at his odd shift in behavior, but gathered up her pizza box and strode down the sidewalk to where she’d been lucky enough to park her yellow Volkswagen Bug. After securing the pizza in the car’s front trunk (or ‘frunk,’ as Sam liked to jokingly call it), she carefully climbed into the driver’s seat and waited a moment for the baby to settle down before dialing Steve’s cell phone number.
“Hey, sunshine! How was your visit with Clint?”
“Productive, for the most part; he has an idea of who the middle-man between Kingpin and the Tracksuits is, but he’s still not sure how to stop them from targeting him and his new friend Kate or uncovering Laura’s past. I also had a quick chat with Kate over lunch, which is why I’m bringing home a chicken and olive pizza from Joe’s; you should also know that your offspring conned me into buying it.”
Steve chuckled. “Oh, they did, huh?”
“Mm-hmm, and you should count yourself lucky that it was only pizza; at four months pregnant with Cari, I was craving Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dipped in vanilla ice cream,” (Y/N) snickered as her husband made a sound of disgust on the other end of the call. “Oh, and the strangest thing happened as I was leaving! Do we know a Peter Parker from anywhere?”
“…I don’t think so, but the name sounds awfully familiar.”
“Right? There’s something strange about it but I can’t put my finger on-” A recognizable babbling in the background of the call caused her to stifle a giggle. “Someone’s feeling chatty today, aren’t they?”
“I think that last episode of Sesame Street might’ve riled her up a bit; you know how much she loves when the Count makes an appearance,” Her husband remarked before calling out, “Cari, did you wanna talk to Mama? Mama’s on the phone right now.”
The gibberish grew louder as the infant toddled over and happily exclaimed into the phone. “Mama!”
“Hi, lemon drop! I’ll be home really soon, okay? Mama loves you!” (Y/N) smiled to herself, listening to their daughter’s incoherent mumbling grow faint as Steve regained control of the cell phone. “I should be home in a half an hour or so, depending on how backed up the bridge is.”
“Fingers crossed that all the city’s archers decide to leave the Brooklyn Bridge un-impaled for the afternoon commute.” Steve joked. “You can tell me all about Clint and his new partner over pizza and my famous green smoothies. I love you, sunshine.”
She gave her phone an exaggerated air-kiss that made Steve huff out a quiet laugh. “I love you too, sweetheart, and I’ll see you soon.”
After hanging up the call and tucking her cell phone into her messenger bag, (Y/N) started the car’s engine and turned up the radio, the local station’s Christmas playlist already playing through the speakers. “Okay, gumball, your daddy promised to make us a smoothie, so let’s get this show on the road.”
Pulling away from the curb, (Y/N) hummed along to the upbeat Elton John track in the hopes that the music would distract from the unsettling feeling beginning to take form in the pit of her stomach, but the tune wasn’t enough to make her shake the suspicion that someone was watching her from afar.
Magic the Gathering x Marvel Set Speculation: Creature Types
I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Universes Beyond Marvel set. I've already made one post where I just rambled about random bits of speculation I had about the set, but I've still been rotating some ideas in my head and I've decided to do a focused dive on a subject I love to think about: creature types. I'm gonna break this up into three sections to try and give it a little structure but it'll probably be a bit rambly within each section. The first two sections (Species/Races and Classes) will focus more on broad strokes that take into consideration both legendary and nonlegendary creatures...I'm not going to try and guess every possible type random legends might have. The third section will be more for me to speculate on specific characters that I think might have especially interesting types. I'll repeat some of my thoughts on creature types from my other post here too so they're all in one place.
Species/Races
Existing creature types I expect to see the most of are Human (obviously), Mutant, Alien, and Robot...
I don't really think any of the various species of aliens really need their own creature type... they can all happily chill under the Alien umbrella
For IP reasons I expect Mutant to solely be used for characters with the X-gene...a lot of other characters that are "mutates" by Marvel terminology will probably just be typed as Human, with a few other exceptions...
Honestly, I think the Marvel sets might only need to make two IP specific creature types: Inhuman and some kind of catch-all for all the various gamma mutates (Hulk and related characters)
The Inhumans are enough their own thing within the context of Marvel that I don't think they really fit in with any existing creature type
Hulk and the other gamma mutates (She-Hulk, Red Hulk, Abomination, etc.) also don't cleanly fit into an existing type...kind of. In a vacuum, I would probably use Mutant for them...but like I said earlier, Mutant is probably going to be reserved for X-gene related characters. I don't really have a super solid idea of what to use though. You might be able to get away with just using Hulk as the creature type, as a lot of these characters have Hulk in their name, but I don't know if it's actually the best choice.
You could maybe introduce a Mutate creature type to handle the Hulks and certain other characters, but I feel like there would be a legitimate concern over its similarity to Mutant, especially in a set where I think there's a decent chance of Mutant typal being a theme.
There's one other IP specific type I could see them making: Asgardian. Personally I think it's unnecessary, Thor and related characters could just as easily be given the God type instead of making a new one, but that might depend on what Marvel wants.
Speaking of the more magical/supernatural side of Marvel, while I don't expect to see them in as high of a quantity as the four I mentioned at the top it should be noted that we could possibly see a non-zero number of Vampire, Elf, Dwarf, Troll, Giant, Demon and/or Devil, and Spirit creatures.
Oh, and between the Savage Lands and also characters like Sauron, Old Lace and Devil Dinosaur I think there's a good chance we can expect at least a few Dinosaurs
Classes
Now I've seen some speculation on the idea of using Hero and Villain as class types in this set but personally I really hope they don't. First, it will reduce that backwards compatibility of the set, which is something WotC thinks about with the popularity of eternal formats. Captain America will interact with more cards as a Human Soldier than as a Human Hero. Second it just looks monotonous, especially in conjunction with how many Humans we'll be getting. What's a better set of creature types for Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye: Human Soldier, Human Rogue, Human Archer or Human Hero, Human Hero, Human Hero?
So setting aside the types I don't think we'll see, how about the ones I think are likely? I think some types we could see multiple of are Soldier, Warrior, Rogue, Scientist, Detective, Assassin...and maybe Ninja, Pilot, and Wizard and Warlock as well.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Citizen make a comeback just so we can get cards that represent civilian characters without just typing them as Human... although I could see Advisor getting some use here too for characters who are lawyers, journalists, or politicians.
Specific Character Speculations
A slight aside at the beginning of this section: if there is a set that really could benefit from finding some way to make the Legendary supertype not eat up so much space on the typeline, it's this set
Also, me listing a character here doesn't mean I think they're 100% certain to get a card, I'm kind of just idly speculating about characters that could have some unusual types.
Rocket Raccoon: I've heard a couple of different stories of Rocket's origin but apparently the (current) comic canon is that he's an earth raccoon that was abducted and genetically enhanced by aliens so I think Raccoon Rogue would be a good fit
Groot: I could see them using Treefolk, Alien Treefolk, or Alien Plant for Groot. Small aside, but I really hope there's at least one card with the flavor text "I am Groot."
Blade: Warrior is a likely choice for a class type, but the real question is how they'll represent him being a dhampir. Human Vampire seems like an obvious pick but Legendary Creature - Human Vampire Warrior is probably going to really push the character limits of the type line. Depending on what aspects of him they want to emphasize I could easily see them dropping his class type if they really want to emphasize his dhampir nature and just type him as Human Vampire...but if they don't want to skip a class type they could decide that Vampire Warrior works and just not bother differentiating him from full vampires.
Ghost Rider: Is Ghost Rider fully skeletal? I could easily see Skeleton Pilot or Skeleton Warrior depending on if they want to emphasize him as a motorcycle rider or a badass fighter...maybe even Skeleton Rogue
The Thing: How non-human do you have to look before you stop counting as Human for creature type reasons? According to the Marvel wiki he's considered a human mutate so technically he could still be a Human... but I could just as easily see them making him an Elemental just to add some variety to the creature types in the set. As for a class you could get clever and make him a Pilot because that's what he originally was, but I don't really see a The Thing card caring about Vehicles so I think Warrior is the best call.
The Lizard: The best possible creature type for him would possibly be Human Lizard Scientist but that might have space issues...but honestly Lizard Scientist is novel enough I wouldn't complain.
Venom/Carnage/other symbiotes: This is less a speculation about their creature type (Alien would probably suffice) but a different typing adjacent question... I wonder if we could justify making them Enchantment Creatures with Bestow to represent other characters wearing them.
Namor: Oh dang, I forgot Marvel had Atlanteans. If we wanted to maximize backwards compatibility I could try and argue we could lump them under Merfolk... but honestly they could also make Atlantean its own type and future proof themselves for other IP that feature inhabitants of Atlantis that are a separate species from humans (like a Universes Beyond: DC for example.) Oh, and Noble would be his class.
You know, I could go on and on trying to guess random characters' creature types so I'm gonna cut myself off here. Maybe one of these days if I get sufficiently bored I'll add onto this post. If anyone else has some ideas for fun Marvel creature types or wants to debate my ideas don't be afraid to add on a reblog or comment. I'd love to talk about this kind of stuff.
Kate Bishop: My very first selfship!!
Hee hee this takes me waaaaay back. This was back when the Disney+ Hawkeye show first aired, and I kinda accidentally fell in love with the MCU incarnation of Kate Bishop, the second Hawkeye. Helps she was played by Hailee Steinfeld, who I do have a minor celeb crush on still, but that's not who I fell for! I fell for the dorky, fangirly, silly, and kinda dum (affectionate) Kate!! :]
Overtime, as I kinda got sullied on the MCU in general, I kinda just...took its version of Kate and made my own Marvel AU that was kind of a mix between what I liked of the films and the comics. Tied in nicely with the Spider-Man AU I was making! For the most part, tho, if ya know Kate from the Hawkeye show, and Kate from the comics, ya know the Kate I selfship with.
I don't exactly actively selfship with her as much as I did before, but I still have a lotta fond memories of her, watching the show, and talking with my friend about how much I wanted to kiss her. There's a lil corner of my brain where my Marvelsona and her get to relax and snuggle together, that's for sure.
The Lore!!
My sona here is known as Luka McNell, also known under the alias of Striker! Through some wacky shenanigans, I attained the power to control electricity and generate it within my body, not unlike the Spider-Man villain Electro (in fact, we have opposing charges of the same base power, so our unique generations of electricity cancel each other out!). I was born and raised in Maryland, but moved up to New York for more hero opportunities.
I briefly worked with SHIELD, which is when I first worked with and met Kate! I had a lotta respect for her, seeing as she was an Avengers-level hero and all—though, technically, she's a reserved member, but she's a teeny bit of a gloryhound here so she didn't bring it up, heh. We started with mutual respect for our abilities, and it just kinda blossomed into a wonderful romance! Though some of our coworkers claim we were practically dating a month before we went official but shush.
I eventually struck it out independent as a hero, and moved in with Kate! Life's a touch rough—even being a public hero only pays so well—but we manage well enough! We live in that apartment space she has in the show, with Lucky the Pizza Dog and Jeff the Baby Land-Shark as pets/roommates!
We aren't in a rush to get married, but we do eventually. Nothing big or the like, just a small affair with family and close friends. And then after that...we do have one kid, a sweet baby boy named Archer. Because of course XD. We may have more, but that's yet to be seen, heheh...
But yeah! That's my self ship with Kate! We're two silly goober heroes who are stupid x stupid (again affectionate lol).
The wonderful art piece of me and Kate riding the bus home from a mission was done by @schpog-art/@schpog! They did amazing on this!
Instead of working on the half dozen pieces i've promised people i spent all day making superheroes out of characters from medieval poetry, but anyway this is The Virago and Condwiramurs, I'll put character info, powers, and design ramblings under the cut-
I like the idea of doing more superheroes based on ancient/historic lit, if anyone has ideas for characters to pull from lmk I have one more in the tank but after that I could use suggestions, I'm aiming for pre 1200s ideally
The Virago (she/her)
Virago isn't based on a specific character, more just on the trope, but I imagine her as sort of a loner antihero, weirdly the first thing I'm thinking of as a reference is early Silver Surfer.
Design is pretty obviously based on the phantom of the opera and Batman. I wanted a dramatic, tailored look, but ultimately something simple. Went for a subtle "V" design on the belt and under the collar.
I imagine Virago's powers involve something similar to the abilities that the Virago trope tends to expound, so precognition, reality altering, op stuff like that. Her club isn't special or anything it's just a really heavy club.
Condwiramurs (she/her)
Condwiramurs is based on the character of the same name from Parzival, although I took most of the inspiration from the theorized translation of the name: "to guide true love".
Condwiramurs' design was obviously based a bit on Cupid, and I also wanted it to be more functional than Virago's. Her tunic/scapula thing is both a reference to early comic book archer designs (namely Hawkeye's original getup) and a reference to dress styles in the middle ages and how they're described in the poetry.
Condwiramurs' powers involve enhanced sight and hand eye coordination that come as a result of having the ability to see the best path forward. This is vague, but I imagined her being able to see paths of light guiding her- not quite seeing the future, just getting a nudge. Her arrows are non-lethal, mostly trackers, grappling hooks, and stuff like that.
I really like it when superheroes are used as a medium to tell deeper stories about marginalization and social structures (enigma, x-men, the watchmen show... even sandman a little bit), and I think any story I'd put these two into would be like that, but I don't have anything concrete yet.
#i've always had such a hard time with superhero costume design but im pretty happy with these#don't have a story idea for them yet#i can't see virago joining a team really but maybe i'll have to make one for condwiramurs#virago#condwiramurs#parzival#wolfram von eschenbach#percival#superhero#my art#artists on tumblr#character design#medieval#medieval poetry
Was watching Multiverse of Madness with my dad last night and we got into a discussion about Marvel multiverse theories... and I actually came up with one that I think is pretty neat?? Not that I genuinely believe this is the direction they're going with things... But it would be cool.
Gwen Stacy and Kate Bishop are the same person.
Explanation for this idea under the cut.
Now I'm trying to figure out how best to articulate this thought, so bear with me if this sounds a little funny.
First of all, the obvious point is that they're both played by Hailee Steinfeld - Gwen in Spiderverse, Kate in Hawkeye. Now, the MCU is kind of inconsistent when it comes to actors playing characters across the multiverse (Benedict Cumberbatch is always Doctor Strange, but there are three different Spider-Men, things like that), and I know most of this media-wise is just fan service for the audience, but I think I've uncovered a little bit of logic behind it.
Characters with innate powers are always the same actor, characters who develop powers are not. AKA, Wong and Mordo and Strange are consistent because they have a natural affinity towards magic, Professor X is consistently Patrick Stewart because he's always a mutant (assuming the James McAvoy version is meant to "age into" Patrick Stewart), and Wanda falls alternatively into either of those camps depending on what version of her we're referring to (she's either a witch or a mutant, but has natural abilities either way). However, Spider-Man is given powers by the spider, not born with them, so it can be a different person/actor. Same thing with Mr. Fantastic (cosmic radiation), Captain Carter (supersoldier serum), Captain Marvel/Binary (more cosmic energy), and the others we see in MoM that already have variants in different movies. Different actors, since logically those powers could be given to anyone in the right circumstance. Black Bolt is an Inhuman, but doesn't have another film version we've seen, so he's not a problem.
Now, Hailee Steinfeld plays both Gwen and Kate - neither of which have innate abilities. Kate is a skilled archer but doesn't have superpowers, and Gwen was bitten by a radioactive spider like any other Spider-person. So her being played by the same actor makes things... interesting.
There is the hitch that these characters have completely different names, but the MCU has already changed up some characters' names while maintaining the same character (i.e. Mary Jane Watson becomes Michelle Jones), so I'm not particularly concerned about that little discrepancy. So what if Kate Bishop is the version of Gwen that could have become Spider-Woman, but didn't?
Now let's think about things age-wise: Kate Bishop and Tom Holland's Peter could have been the same age. Kate is 23 in Hawkeye, and Peter is meant to be roughly 18 at the end of No Way Home - but Peter Blipped and Kate didn't, which explains how she's five years older.
Two superheroes, who pre-Blip were the same age, who both live in New York... what if they were on the same school trip?
You know the one I'm meaning. We don't see it in the MCU's Peter Parker, but the story is always that he goes on a school trip, gets bitten by the spider, becomes Spider-Man. But if Kate was with him on the same trip... that means there are two versions of how this could go:
The MCU version: Peter gets bitten and becomes Spidey, while Kate/Gwen takes an interest in archery and becomes Hawkeye.
The Spiderverse version: Kate/Gwen is the one to get bitten, and Peter ends up becoming that universe's Lizard instead (notice that the MCU/Earth-616 doesn't have a Lizard of its own either...)
But they're the same person. Genetically, multiversally, the same. Kate Bishop could have become Spider-Woman, but she missed her opportunity and Peter was bitten instead. Kate Bishop is the MCU's equivalent of Gwen Stacy.
(disclaimer that yes I know they're completely different characters and the comics are nothing like the film/TV versions, I know that Gwen and Kate have different backstories and family lives and all that, I know that Hailee Steinfeld was just cast bc she's a talented and popular actor right now, this theory is just for fun and I'm not trying to claim it's actually something Marvel is planning)
ironman thinks batman is a weird stoic emo dude until batman actually trolls him alot and it shocks him, and for that they would troll each other
ironman and batman: *debating which of their suit is the best* the black panther, who has the mix of both of their suits: 🧍
superman and captain america would respect each other and besties even
I think superman and the hulk will have a bond, they would be friends
tony stark would bully lex luthor alot
black widow and black canary would bond from their himbo archers
I think hawkeye and green arrow would some have rivalry or some sort of frenemies
blue beetle (jamie) and spiderman are besties because yes and I think firestorm too
the justice league and the avengers refers to each others as neighbors and they trust each others secret identity even
when the avengers found out shazam is a ten y/o child they all kinda freaked out
thor would be billy's mentor figure and he would stay at the avengers building most at the time
batman has the most team ups with the avengers
and I would like to think they would have a game competition of them
the justice league main colors is blue and purple and the avengers main colors and red and white
not really a headcanon but I see superman, batman and ironman as a trio cuz they both has "man" of their superhero name and back then I don't really know much of marvel I only thought dc and marvel are the same
well now I still see them as such cuz why not lmao
and decided to throw antman and spiderman too now they are group of five now
and I ain't changing it cuz it got stuck with me now
i think i love you still [K.Bishop]
pairing: kate bishop x reader
summary: you've spent four years trying to understand the complicated mess of thoughts that make up kate bishop. after dealing with the pain of her absence, and the more significant pain of her return, you finally get it right.
warnings: none; light angst with happy ending; childhood best friends to idiots in love who are too stubborn to admit it; my writing style changing ever other paragraph
wordcount: 2.8k
a/n: this very loosely follows the events of hawkeye up until the day before the christmas party. it's also heavily inspired by babyblue by xana. you don't have to listen to it for the fic but it's an incredible song and i can't recommend it enough. enjoy! <3
* * * * * * *
People say absence makes the heart grow fonder but you call absolute bullshit on that.
Although to be fair, the problem isn’t the saying. The problem is Kate Bishop.
You’re definitely not the first person to think that, and you certainly won’t be the last considering the kind of person Kate is, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be upset about it. Especially considering the years that have passed.
You’ve always given her the benefit of the doubt, not because you think she deserves it but because you would have driven yourself crazy from the amount of unanswered questions Kate left behind. Or more specifically, from the fact that she left you behind with no explanation.
Kate deciding to leave you and Bishop Security behind to go to university outside of the city wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was her refusing to tell you about her decision until the day she had to leave, making sure to tell you how unambitious she thought you were for taking the job her mom offered you as her secretary.
You still didn’t know what hurt more, her disappearing from your life or the insults she hurled your way before she left. Kate Bishop has many flaws and being an overachiever is definitely near the top of the list. Hence the amount of effort she put into shoving you out of her life.
It should have made working with her mom incredibly uncomfortable but Eleanor seemed to understand your pain better than you could have imagined. Being left behind by the young archer wasn’t an experience that was unique to just you and yet it didn’t make you miss her any less. You're usually good at ignoring the pain her absence left inside you but tonight is different. You look around the bustling party, the smallest of frowns on your face.
This was definitely the worst part of your job. You didn’t mind the long meetings, the stacks of reports you had to look through every day or even the miscellaneous tasks that Eleanor assigns you because you’re the only one who won’t complain about having to bring her another cup of coffee every few hours.
All of that was nothing compared to having to go to stupid galas with even stupider people. You’ll never understand why your boss insists on you accompanying her to every Bishop Security gala considering the lack of something to do. You have a sneaking suspicion it’s her way of trying to get you to interact with more people to hopefully find a way to get over Kate but you’ve never questioned her about it.
You catch sight of your boss while scanning the room for something to take your mind off a certain purple archer and she calls you over to her. You force a smile onto your face as you approach her. “Is everything okay?”
“You don’t have to sound so formal, y/n,” Eleanor says with a small smile. “We’re out of the office.”
“Right. My question still stands though.”
She affectionately rolls her eyes at your insistence. “Yes, everything is fine. I just wanted you to hear the news from me. Kate is home for the holidays…and she’s coming tonight.”
You force yourself not to react even though your first instinct is to run as far away as possible from the party. You try to be calm but your voice comes out a tad harsher than intended. “And I’m supposed to be interested in that information because?”
“Because she’s been looking your way since I called you over.”
Your eyebrows raise in surprise and even though you really shouldn't do it, you lift your head up and scan the room for Kate Bishop. You don’t have to search for long. Even with the years gone by, your eyes are immediately drawn to her tall, suit-clad frame. She meets your eyes from across the room and you swear everyone else disappears until only the two of you remain. You notice the clench in her jaw even from this distance and you hate yourself for finding it extremely attractive.
Some things never change.
“You should go talk to her.”
You tear your gaze away from Kate to stare incredulously at Eleanor for even suggesting that. “I’d rather get fired than spend five minutes with her.”
“Then you’re lucky we’re not at work,” she says with a playful glare. “Come on, y/n, how long has it been since you’ve seen her?”
She already knows the answer. She was the one you called to pick you up from Grand Central Station after Kate left you behind to chase after…whatever it is she was hoping to find out there. You’re not sure if you’re hoping she found it or not.
“That doesn’t matter. She’s visited New York how many times since she started college?” You let the question hang in the air for a few seconds to avoid sounding as bitter as you feel. “And how many times did she come to see me?”
The older Bishop woman raises her hands in mock surrender. “Alright, alright, I get it. I won’t push. Just think about it?”
She walks away from you with a small smile, probably going off to find Jack to tell him all about yet another failed attempt at getting you and Kate back on speaking terms again.
When you turn back, Kate’s gone and you do your best to ignore the ache her absence leaves inside you.
You decide to go back to your apartment a few minutes later which means you successfully miss the drama that unfolds. What you don’t miss is the news report recounting the events or the text from Eleanor telling you you don’t have to go to the office for the next few days. You find it strange but you’re not about to say no to some much-needed time off.
That does mean you miss Kate’s surprising return to Bishop Security which leaves you completely unprepared when she shows up at your door with a ridiculous request and an even more ridiculous outfit.
“I need you to take care of my dog for a few hours.”
That’s the first thing she says when you open your door. No greeting. No apology. No explanation as to why she has the audacity to ask you for a favor after avoiding you like the plague for almost four full years.
Unfortunately for you, your anger is momentarily forgotten at the sight of the adorable golden retriever standing happily at the brunette’s side. “Since when do you have a dog?”
“Since last night,” she replies with a shrug. “I saw him outside of the party yesterday and my heart wouldn’t let me leave him behind.”
You have no doubt that she was trying to be cute with that reply but all it does is make you remember all the reasons why you should slam the door in her face. She seems to read your mind just from the shift in your facial expressions because she ‘accidentally’ lets go of the dog’s leash and lets him run straight into your apartment.
“Listen, I can explain, and I will, just not right now. But I promise you it’s important.”
Of course.
You were kidding yourself if you thought Kate had actually changed. It’s always been this way with her. There’s always something to chase that’s infinitely more important than you. So important, in fact, that she can’t even stop for five seconds to explain what the hell is going on.
“You haven’t changed a bit, Kate.” There’s a flash of something in her eyes, maybe it’s regret or maybe it’s disappointment, but it’s gone just as fast as it came. She opens her mouth to say something but you interrupt her before she can dig herself into a deeper hole. Yet another habit that you’re sure she hasn’t learned to break. “It’s fine, just go.”
She hesitates for a second before giving you a small nod and walking away. You watch her go just like all the other times before. Except this time there’s an excitable dog waiting inside your apartment. You try not to think about how badly you wish the furry companion by your side was Kate instead as you go about your day.
To no one’s surprise, you don’t hear from the archer for the rest of the day. You would be disappointed if you weren’t so used to it. At least this time, Kate’s broken promises only result in you having to take care of the golden retriever, who you’ve affectionately started calling Lucky, and nothing else…or so you think.
It’s not until late morning the next day that your door receives another urgent knock. Lucky immediately reacts, jumping down from the couch and running over to the door, his tail wagging rapidly as if he can tell his new owner is waiting on the other side. You chuckle despite yourself before following after him. “I don’t think you’re getting this dog back, Kate.”
The smile on your face disappears once you take in her appearance. Her face is littered with small cuts and you can see the outline of a bruise forming on the side of her jaw. Your eyebrows furrow the longer you look at her but the answer is given to you by the purple costume she’s wearing. Even without a bow in her hand, it’s obvious what her outfit represents and you can literally feel your heart sink into the depths of your stomach.
“y/n-”
“No. Save it.” There’s a mix of concern and frustration in your tone but you don’t have nearly enough time to figure out which feeling is stronger. “Just take your dog and go.”
“I can’t,” she says, tinges of desperation painting her voice. “I owe you an explanation.”
You scoff. “Oh, you owe me much more than that. You have no idea what the last four years have been like for me.”
The brunette takes a step forward, clearly asking a silent question. “Then tell me what I’m missing. Help me make it right.”
“I’m not a stupid Avengers mission, Kate!” You hate the way your voice breaks under the weight of your repressed emotions. “If you're looking for someone to save, you're in the wrong place. I don't need you. Not anymore.”
You're ready for that to be the end of the conversation and you reach out to grab hold of Lucky’s leash. You're about to hand the leash over to Kate when her next words stop you in your tracks.
“What if I need you?”
You stare at her with wide eyes almost not believing what you've just heard. Four years of silence and absence. That's what it took to hear those words you've desperately longed for.
But it's not enough.
“You're a little too late.”
She wants to fight back against your words. You know her well enough to recognize that spark of determination in her eyes. Despite what you've just said, a part of you hopes that's what she's going to do. That this time she’ll fight for you.
Instead, all you get is a mumbled apology as she snatches Lucky’s leash and walks away again. You shouldn't have expected anything different…but you did. You expected whatever mess she seems to be in to be more than enough motivation to fix what happened between the two of you.
Kate Bishop is many things but predictable isn’t one of them.
The next few days go by far too slowly for your liking. Eleanor denies your request to go back to work (multiple times) and without a place to travel to for the holidays, you’re stuck in the one place you’d rather not be. You don’t think there’s a single corner of New York that won’t remind you of the one person you don’t want to spend any more time thinking about.
It’s not until the day before the Christmas party, a party you helped arrange even though it’s definitely not a part of your job description, that you run into the purple archer once again. Or more specifically, she runs into you.
You’re on your way out of your apartment despite the heavy rain that falls outside. You open your door expecting to be met with an empty hall only to find a soaking-wet Kate Bishop standing on your doorstep, looking like the world’s largest golden retriever. You do your best to ignore the way your heart skips a beat just from the mere sight of her. It takes a few seconds for you to get over your shock but you manage to find your voice. “Kate? What are you doing here?”
“I’m sorry, I know I’m the last person you want to see right now.”
You briefly consider slamming the door shut in her face but decide against it. For the moment. “That didn’t answer the question, Bishop.”
“I just…” She sighs. “I had to see you again.”
“So you decided to walk here in the pouring rain?” You’re stuck between wanting to call her an idiot and wanting to admit how cute she looks. Yeah, you’re still a sucker for her puppy dog eyes.
“I know I don’t deserve another chance after everything I’ve done but please. I can’t keep this inside any longer. I need to talk to you.”
A long moment of silence goes by before you make up your mind. You might be signing yourself up for more disappointment but you have too many unanswered questions to let her walk away again.
“Come in before you catch a cold,” you say as you open the door wider for her.
She wastes no time in complying and you’re almost certain the shakiness of her hands has less to do with the rain and more to do with her nerves. You take a deep breath to calm your racing heart before shutting the door and following after her.
She stands awkwardly in the middle of your living room, her eyes scanning every picture frame and random poster that adorns your walls. You can tell the realization she comes to by the subtle slouch of her shoulders. There’s not a single thing in your living room that carries the memory of her. No pictures, no posters, no trace of the role she played in your life at some point.
“Let me get you a towel or something.” You start to walk away but a hand on your wrist stops you. You let her turn you around, not putting up any sort of fight as she pulls you in closer to her.
You wait for her to say something but all she does is stare into your y/e/c eyes, her grip on your wrist tightening ever so slightly. You can practically see every thought that flickers through her mind and you want nothing more than to spend the rest of the day deciphering the walking contradiction of feelings that make up who she is.
“y/n…” Her voice trails off as her blue eyes travel down your face. You’ve never seen that look before but you’re almost certain you know what it means. And it makes your head spin. “I shouldn’t have walked away. Not the first time, not the last time. But I…I’m so afraid of hurting you. Again. I thought dealing with my feelings would be easier if I was away from you but I was wrong. All it did was make you a stranger and you have no idea how much I regret that. How badly I want to make things right between us because I…I love you. I always have. And I can't go another second without you knowing that.”
You’re stuck between who you’ve been and who you want to be.
You’ve spent the better part of four years cursing Kate for leaving you, regretting the love you couldn’t help but foster for her, wishing she had never stepped foot into your life. But now…with her standing in front of you, looking at you with sincere eyes strong enough to make any other girl weak in the knees, you accept the truth you’ve been pushing away for so long.
You don’t blame Kate for leaving. You don’t regret the years you spent by her side. You don’t wish you never met her. You don’t hate her.
You love her.
It’s been that way since the day you met her and no amount of stupid mistakes or misunderstandings can ever change that. Hell, not even both of your stubborn personalities could change it.
“Say something,” she whispers. “Please.”
She leans in toward you. It’s a small move but you pick up on it immediately. Your breath catches in your throat before you do the only thing you can think of.
You close your eyes and take a leap, trusting Kate to catch you.
And she does. For the first time, you embrace the uncertainty that makes up your strained relationship and she doesn’t leave you hanging. She meets you halfway and the feeling of her lips against yours holds a promise you know she’ll fight tooth and nail to keep. She's not leaving.
This time, and every time from here on out, she's staying. And that's all that matters.
