Hawaii Senate Kills ‘De Facto’ Weed Legalization
A bill to increase the amount of marijuana a person can possess before facing stiff criminal penalties failed 15-9 in the Hawaii Senate on Monday. It was the second defeat of a measure at the Legislature this session to allow more people to possess pot. A bill to allow recreational use of marijuana for people 21 years and older died earlier this month. The reasons for shelving Senate Bill 2487,…

a few updates. we have reproductive rights in arizona, colorado (including public funds), maryland, missouri, montana (with limits), nevada (with limits), and expanded equal rights protection in new york including pregnancy status and outcome, but none in florida, nebraska, and south dakota.
increasing wages in alaska and missouri to $15, and those two + nebraska are mandating sick leave, but massachusets isnt ending tipped minimum wage and california didnt increase their minimum wage or allow for more rent control.
(medical) marijuana was decriminalized in nebraska but not (medically or rectreationally) florida, north dakota or south dakota. massachusets didnt legalize psychedelics.
arizona is requiring life with no parole for sex trafficking and tightening their criminal penal system for immigrants (and fentanyl), californias reclassifying misdemeanor theft and trafficking as felonies and elevating rehab, and colorado is taking away the right to bail in first degree murder cases and increasing the sentence-served requirements for parole in violent crimes.
all-party primaries and ranked-choice voting lost in every state they ran in: alaska, arizona, colorado, idaho, missouri (just ranked choice), montana (just primaries), nevada, oregon (just ranked choice), and south dakota (just primaries). but dc went for ranked choice and independent primary votes.
every state that ran a ballot measure about restricting votes to citizens (+ non-minors) voted it in: idaho, iowa (18+), kentucky, missouri, north carolina (18+), oklahoma, south carolina (18+), and wisconsin (18+).
same-sex marriage was codified in california, colorado, and, soon, likely hawaii. were still waiting for more votes from california on this (>50% votes in so far and its slightly leaning towards keeping it) but nevada outlawed involuntary servitude. massachusets just barely made the cut to allow gig workers to unionize and oregon is broadening labor rights in the marijuana industry.

question: did you know the idea that Kamala Harris caused “thousands of black people to be locked up for due to marijuana during her time as a district attorney” is a lie perpetuated by Independent politician from Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard?

Gregory Canatis had once led a very ordinary childhood. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on the 17th of November, 1956, the second child of three boys to Theodore and Betty.
Theodore was stationed in Vietnam in the 1960s, and upon his return, he and Betty called it quits on their marriage. Gregory moved with his mother to Kauia, Hawaii, where she eventually remarried.
As for Theodore, he moved over to Midwest City in Oklahoma. Gregory said of him:
“He was alright as a person, but he had a bad temper a lot of the time.”
Life seemed stable enough—at least at first.
Gregory was in regular classes at Kauai high school except for special reading classes. But as Gregory grew older, the shadows of his mind darkened. By his teenage years, he struggled more and more with his mental health, spiraling into bouts of confusion and erratic behaviour.
He was expelled from school in his junior year for smoking marijuana in school.
Then the fall of 1976, everything changed. At 19-years-old, Gregory had found himself homeless after his mother asked him to leave her home. She had become overwhelmed by his increasingly unpredictable nature, and didn’t feel comfortable with him living with her.
With the changes in his life, Gregory tried to grasp onto the normalcy slipping through his fingers. He even proposed to his girlfriend, Patricia Browning. She would later reflect: “He was just a beautiful young man. He just started getting sicker and sicker and sicker.”
With nowhere else to go, Gregory left Hawaii and travelled to the mainland, to Midwest City, Oklahoma, where his father, Theodore, welcomed him into his apartment. Theodore had since retired from the U.S. Air Force and now worked maintenance at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
For Gregory, it was an attempt at a fresh start. Tragically, however, his struggles didn’t fade with the change in scenery….
This week’s episode of Morbidology takes a look at the case of Theodore Canatis. You can listen to episode 283 of Morbidology across all podcast platforms, or watch our documentary on YouTube:

Hawaii Senator Votes ‘No’ Then ‘Yes’ To Legalize Marijuana
The Hawaii Capitol can be full of surprises. At a joint hearing Thursday, Republican Sen. Brenton Awa first voted “no” then voted “yes” on a bill that would legalize marijuana in Hawaii. Awa said he supports legalizing marijuana. In fact, he helped introduce Senate Bill 375. The measure would set up a regulatory scheme to allow licensed dispensaries to sell recreational pakalolo. But when the…

Alaska (No. 2)
Indigenous people have lived in Alaska for thousands of years, and it is widely believed that the region served as the entry point for the initial settlement of North America by way of the Bering land bridge. The Russian Empire was the first to actively colonize the area beginning in the 18th century, eventually establishing Russian America, which spanned most of the current state and promoted and maintained a native Alaskan Creole population. The expense and logistical difficulty of maintaining this distant possession prompted its sale to the U.S. in 1867 for US$7.2 million (equivalent to $157 million in 2023). The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.
Abundant natural resources have enabled Alaska—with one of the smallest state economies—to have one of the highest per capita incomes, with commercial fishing, and the extraction of natural gas and oil, dominating Alaska's economy. U.S. Armed Forces bases and tourism also contribute to the economy; more than half of the state is federally-owned land containing national forests, national parks, and wildlife refuges. It is among the most irreligious states, one of the first to legalize recreational marijuana, and is known for its libertarian-leaning political culture, generally supporting the Republican Party in national elections. The Indigenous population of Alaska is proportionally the second highest of any U.S. state, at over 15 percent, after only Hawaii.

GARAGES SONGS ASSIGNED TO FANTASY HIGH CHARACTERS (AND SOME OTHER STUFF)
For context, the garages were a band who wrote songs based off a game called blaseball, mainly rock but not confined directly too it. I am assigning some of their songs to fantasy high characters for the very small subset of people who are interested a.k.a mainly me. Most of these are based off season 1 but there is influence from the others. 👍
FIG
-Pyschoacoustics: Very loud but also kinda team based! (The bigger the garage/ the better the sound/ we’re just so glad you came around)
- Vanessa tables, the cheesiest love song ever. I can totally imagine fig singing this.
- ALBUMS: either Underground (its heavy metal) or Short circuit (psychoacoustics esque, it’s so loud!!!)
- CHARACTERS THEY WOULD LOVE? Probably Betsy Trombone or Allison Abbot. Or Jaylen HotdogFingers. Big Garages Fan probably.
ADAINE
- so mediocre, it’s about not being good enough and being told your not good enough. Yeouch.
-Sidelined, same album same reason but this one ends happier cause people do believe in them :)
- the entire Kansas City breath mints team failed the bar exam,
- won’t strike out, it’s about a frog kicking ass. For everyone who doesn’t know blaseball google chorby short right now.
- ALBUMS: either unstable (the first two songs are from it) or, while not a album, The Mike Townsend Trilogy because she would one hundred percent understand the looked down on for not being good enough vibe.
- CHARACTERS THEYD LOVE? Mike Townsend, Chorby Short, maybe Sebastion Telephone cause underperforming sibling vibes. I can see her being a big Hawaii Fridays fan or more accurately Yellowstone Magics
KRISTEN
- And I mean all gods, the first line is “I need to email god because I have some issues”. Kristen would say that, 100%.
- solar eclipse, this one’s a little bit of everyone but it feels especially Kristen because of the direct callouts to god in it. She’d very much understand this one I think.
- ALBUMS weirdly enough, no clue. She would probably like the garages kill gods cause of the title and maybe pathetic/spineless cause repressed rage.
CHARACTERS THEYD LOVE? Most of the like goofy ones I think. She’d see pitching machine (a player who is an actual honest to god pitching machine) and start cheering. She would actually maybe enjoy the monitor who is a god but is also a pushover and eventually anticapitalist. Shed like Randall Marijuana if only cause he’s called “Randy weed” She’d also be a big Fridays person but I can see her being a Hellmouth Fan.
RIZ
- operation plasma (swing and a miss) it’s a song by the spies about how they want a spy to bring them stuff, riz core.
- beautiful day, I don’t know why I can very much see riz in this, half of it cause shit canonically hits the fan even harder after beautiful day.
- the unremarkable ballad of Derrick Krueger, I can’t explain this one but I think it does have slight riz vibes of like overlooked underdog at the beginning of season 1
- Albums, be my valentine cause some of the songs are very sweet and a decent amount are not even romantic in like partner partner way or percolate or lofi hip-hop brews to kill siesta/kill gods to.
- Players he’d love? Parker McMillan, he’d love the insane complexity of trying to piece them together and like interrogating their socials. He’d be a big Houston Spies fan as well, no surprise, but he’d also be a data witch or something similar on the side, just digging round in the code.
EDIT: he would also love one of my fav players, Evelton mcblase 2, a trans mad scientist who is evil and also occasionally a eel.
GORGUG
- heart full of love mouth full of blood, it’s a little romantic but also about killing to protect your friends
- Mike Townsend is back, I can see him vibing to this, especially with the goofy “I learned how to solo!!!” Part
- hurt people, it’s about desperately not wanting to hurt those around you but being unable to.
- Albums I don’t know! Maybe encore cause some of those are very hard hitting and he’d like that I think but also maybe lofi as well cause chill out vibes. Potentially Immaterial Shores which is a bunch of like sea shanty’s.
-Characters they’d like? Jaylen hotdogfingers as well, he’d understand the tradgedy. Also Theodore Duende. Definitely Nagomi McDaniel because she’s a buff as hell mother , maybe the dad versions of Lenny Marijuana. Generally the strong ones who have hearts of gold. He’d be a Dallas steaks fan (their joke is that they’re all dads or dad adjacent, they do cookouts)
FABIEN
- Top ten Tillman Henderson moments that actually happened, dude I cannot describe it but he would love Tillman, shitheel player who does the silliest shenanigans.
- Rise, I can’t really explain it but the extreme confidence mixed with the knowledge that Jaylen actually deeply regrets her revival and fame feels very Fabian.
- Betsy trombone (+ r - s version) I can’t explain it but specifically this version has Fabian feels.
- Albums. Uhhh maybe just straight up discipline, it’s super long but he’d like it I feel. Something shorter would be Caught in the Reverb I don’t know why but I think he’d like it a bit.
-Favorite Characters? Tillman Henderson, he’d love how much of a shitheel he is. I can see him also liking Nagomi McDaniel and Jessica Telephone. I can also seeing him being part of the Jaylen resurrection efforts and just supporting her girlbossing murder spree. He’d actually care if they’re good at the game, similarly he’d be a crabs fan since they’re pretty consistently good, if not the crabs then the hades tigers cause they’re sick as hell. I can also see him really really enjoying York silk because it’s a 12 year old with a gunblade who’s unironically super strong.
BAD KIDS IN GENERAL
- Well suck forever
- A horrible Mistake we will make again and again
Gilear (special edition!!)
-on fatherhood, im adding this just cause it reminds me of him. If you didn’t know people died in blaseball! That was a key thing! While figs alive this does give that vibe with how much she gets into.

Did the Hawaiian Jungle Swallow Stephen & Jenny Reisburg?
Tumblr media
Stephen Reisberg, 34, and his wife Jenny Sun-Reisberg, 28, were a Boston couple who enjoyed hiking and traveling. In late August 1990, they left Massachusetts for a trip that included hiking in the Tetons before visiting friends in San Francisco and then flying to Kauai, Hawaii.
Their plans were to hike the challenging Mount Waialeale in Kauai's Kokee State Park in early September, though they were expected back in Massachusetts around September 9th. However, witnesses reported seeing the couple in Kauai after that date, which wasn't unusual since they were known to change travel plans spontaneously.
The last known person to see the Reisbergs was the former program director of the Kokee Museum of Natural History. He met them on or around September 9th as they studied maps of Mount Waialeale, determined to hike it despite his warnings about the difficult terrain and lack of trails. They set off against his advice.
Around September 24th, Jenny's status as a doctoral candidate at Harvard raised flags when she didn't return as scheduled. Two weeks later, their rental car was found at the Pu'u O Kila lookout in Kokee State Park, packed with their belongings for the flight home.
An extensive four-day search of the park starting September 27th turned up only a scarf that may or may not have belonged to Jenny. A male hiker also reported hearing a woman's moans in the area 10 days earlier, potentially connected to the case.
While authorities didn't outwardly suspect foul play, the complete disappearance of two experienced hikers was perplexing. One possibility raised was the couple crossing paths with marijuana growers who had killed hikers in that region in 1990.
Local rumors circulated that Stephen faked their disappearance because he was unhappy being a doctor, though family dismissed this speculation. After 34 years, their whereabouts remain unknown.
Were the Reisbergs victims of a tragic hiking accident on Mount Waialeale? Or did they have a deadly run-in with criminals protecting a grow operation in Kokee State Park? With no bodies ever found, authorities have few answers. A memorial was held in 1990, but their disappearance remains an unsolved mystery haunting those who knew them.
