all the rise boys get done dirty on characterization by fandom in different ways i think. (not ALL the time every fanwork etc etc these are just like, trends i tend to notice?) every fandom suffers from losing character nuance.

- leo i’ve talked about plenty on this blog, how some of his canon traits (genuine belief in his skill and cockiness, capacity for joy, his manipulativeness whether for good or ill) seem to get watered down or wiped off the board and supplemented with generic sad boy. his struggles with purpose and identity and not wanting to fail somehow morph into “he hates and completely holds no value for himself”

- donnie’s canon personality gets blurred out and largely replaced with whatever list of Neurodivergent Traits. and i think there’s such a fine line to walk between exploring a character that’s been word of god confirmed as on the spectrum and overwriting what’s canonically there. it’s a hard needle to thread. it also feels like a lot of his canon emotiveness gets left off the table for some reason. bc he does have his moments of flat/deadpan delivery, but a lot of the time he’s honestly very emotive. he has the passion of a theatre kid and the vindictiveness of... also a theatre kid. and the mind of a scientist.

- raph loses so much of his rowdy teen boy energy it’s kind of wild? like interpretations sand off that he’s also impulsive and can be reckless and dumb and LOVES fighting and roughhousing and isn’t the most eloquent person. suddenly there’s this pitch perfect soft boy big bro who would never hurt a fly and always says the exact right supportive thing and singlehandedly raised his 3 brothers (which simultaneously sands off all the nuance of splinter’s issues emotionally connecting with his sons and how that affected all of them). and like i LOVE raph, he’s so full of love and care and anxiety, he clearly has learned to put a lot of work into being aware of his strength and size. but there’s a difference you know?

- mikey is like. where raph gets overparentified by fanon, mikey gets over “family therapist”-ed IMO. the impulsiveness, the goofiness, the powerful emotions including a VERY powerful temper, the flat-out dumb teen boy choices... they get ignored. suddenly there’s this only very sweet and earnest boy who has read a hundred psychology books and runs group family therapy weekly or something. he is crying in his room bc leo and raph are arguing about something. which is so. he IS very sweet and can be very earnest and is full of love! he HAS come in with his opinions and unsolicited advice a couple of times and life coached for the greater good. but there’s a difference between what he does in canon and the role he gets in fanon.

Still so iconic of Matt fraction to start his run like anyways off screen Clint and Kate who have met a few times before this run have become besties and are fundamentally now intertwined characters. Like and that’s just canon now. I think more comic writers should be willing to kinda just decide a new status quo like that especially with characters that have been under utilized

Can we all readdress the fact that Lucifer is a canonical switch? I understand liking bottom!Lucifer, I really do, but let this man top. As a RadioApple fan, is it really too much to want Alastor to get properly railed 😩

Can we please stop harassing people over the ships or characters they enjoy? All it does is poison the atmosphere and push creators away. If a pairing or head‑canon isn’t for you, just mute, filter, or block—it’s that simple.

Remember why we’re here: we all love this game and the stories it inspires. It isn’t anyone’s “fault” that a character or ship they attached to happens to be liked by many others too. Liking something mainstream doesn’t make fans “deluded,” and it certainly doesn’t mean they’re ignoring the rest of the cast. They’ve simply found a dynamic they like and want to explore it. That’s perfectly valid.

Fandom thrives on variety, so let people enjoy things—even when their tastes don’t match yours. When we assume the worst about others, we end up with two outcomes: creators leave, or they stop sharing their work. Neither is healthy for the community.

By all means, offer constructive criticism, but blanket insults and sweeping assumptions are not criticism—they’re hostility. Instead of tearing down what you dislike, channel that energy into making or supporting content you do enjoy. You don’t have to justify your dislikes, and no one should have to defend their likes.

Fandom is supposed to be fun. Instead, it's filled toxic discourse and hatred.

If someone was stripped and tied up in a drafty warehouse, what's the temperature-time chart for hypothermia? Like, at x-temperature it takes y-time for z-stage of hypothermia to set in.

Attempting to find these answers online either gives me water temperature or windchill/frostbite charts. I know enough science to confidentially say that water is not analogous to a drafty warehouse.

Water is significantly better at conducting heat transfer. Something like 25 times better if I remember thermodynamics. So I know hypothermia would set in much quicker in water, so those charts aren't helpful.

And frostbite, while a fascinating condition in its own right, is not itself hypothermia. I know it's a common complication of hypothermia. But it is not directly linked to the cooling of the core temperature. Also, a drafty warehouse may be, well, drafty, but if the draft is not extremely strong and also directly on the person, I'm not sure windchill would have any part to play.

How am I supposed to find the answers I seek to my highly specific questions when any search engine is just gonna analyze my query and spit out the most commonly clicked links to the most commonly searched variation; which is inevitably going to be some random ass surface knowledge listicle site answering a completely different question to the one I asked?

There's just a lot of things that happened this season (season 4) that could connect back to LBD.

Main things here:

There's several times where LBD refers to playing "a game" and that people and other things are "pieces" of that game

The Jade Emperor tells Azure that he is just a piece in a game. What is this game? Who are the players? LBD and the Emperor? Someone else? The mystery person with the scroll? The Mayor? Where is he???

LBD also tells Monkey King, Macaque and Mk at different points that she will rip/undo/erase the memories of them. How was she planning on doing that? Oh hello Ancient Scroll of Memory that is in the Underworld.

Oh underworld you say? Ya know, I wonder if that was the "beyond" the Mayor was referring to when he said that LBD would use the Samadhi fire to cleanse the celestial realm and beyond. I mean, the fire IS an Inter-dimensional weapon after all.

There is twice that LBD refers to MK as a monkey. Does she know? Did she know that MK was a stone monkey all along??? Does that have anything to do with the weird blue wisps during MK's transformation?

I'm now realizing that I forgot to add a piece of info, but its over all not super important. But she tells Macaque at one point that he "refused the Path of Destiny, and so there will be Pain". But she tells MK that the pursuit of what you think is right will only lead to pain.

She also tells Mei (which MK overhears) while possessing Monkey King, that they (Mei and the other Heroes) are Agents of Chaos, which LBD wants to eradicate, and that in doing so will get rid of disorder and Destruction. Meanwhile the ink curse tells MK that he's nothing but a Harbinger of Chaos who will cause nothing but Chaos and Destruction. Is it simply using LBD's words to get in his head or is there something more there?

also the symbols on the scroll are the same symbols that LBD uses and which surrounded her when she was locked away. Does that mean anything? Is it just the language of the underworld? Is it just a language the animation crew uses on repeat because they have it? or is LBD connected to the scroll?

I think my very least favorite type of mihoyo fan to interact with is the rabid "There's no ships implied or teased because in Hoyo games no ships are canon!! These characters are just friends!!"

Like, do you just enjoy being bland as untoasted bread? Do you not have a single romantic bone in your body? Are you completely incapable of just letting other people have fun?

Normally I am happy to let people cook, but actually, for this group? Please shut up. Literally no one who is shipping in these fandoms actually expects their ships to be 100% confirmed as canon in-game. We know there aren't many confirmed relationships in Hoyo games. We've got it, thanks!

But denying that there's any deliberate ship tease or fan bait, especially in Hoyo's marketing, just makes you look media illiterate. Of course there's ship tease in Hoyo marketing and games! That shit sells just as well as the waifu/husbando fantasy! Hoyo knows how to make money; they're not stupid!

Anyway, sorry for the rant. There just seems to be a particular breed of really intolerable fan in the Hoyo fandoms that is exhausting to have to see and respond to and that last video has brought them out in force... 😮‍💨
