Always Keep Simming - The Mad Scientists’ Accomplishments and Struggles

Aileen Blackburn was known as the mad scientist from Willow Creek that knew how to throw awesome space parties on Sixam. She was known as a sim that enjoyed being a menace at work and manipulating her co-workers with her SimRay. Some not-so-well-known facts about her: Her contribution in the defeat of a psychopath spellcaster sage (To make that happen, she had to revive the MOTHER of all extraterrestrial beings - The queen of Sixam if you will). And then of course, she was the first sim that ever managed to successfully clone a sim. The latter accomplishment was only known to Aileen and her colleagues at work… for now. Aileen was excited to publish her work for all of SimNation to read. After all, it was a scientific breakthrough! In fact, she knew from her husband’s research that a false attempt at cloning a spellcaster had resulted in the creation of the very first vampire… That fact she would keep to herself though. Most of her colleagues were skeptics when it came to occult science and refused to acknowledge the existence of occults altogether, even aliens (even when they were standing right in front of them. Or rather, were abducting them into space). Aileen‘s paper „Aileen Blackburn‘s 101 - How to clone a sim“ was almost finished. Her life’s work. But unfortunately, her fellow scientists weren’t excited along with her at all. That day, one of the head scientist at the FutureLabs Research Institute brought her the bad news - The council had decided that it was too risky to publish her findings. No paper, no funding, no further research. Aileen was furious and let her anger get the best of her (she freezed her colleague). Shockingly, this didn’t help her cause at all.🙄

That evening, she vented about her day to her family. Thankfully, they were very supportive and encouraged her not to give up. They would deal with the repercussions of her actions, together. 😈

If you’re new and know nothing about these sims, no problem! In a nutshell, this is my personal legacy I‘ve been playing for years („Always Keep Simming“ lol) and Aileen Blackburn is my Gen 4 heir. Her husband Colin as well as their twins, Gemma and Gavin, are spellcasters. This season we‘ll (kind of) „finish“ Aileen‘s story and start the twins journey in Ravenwood. There’s a LOT to come and I can’t wait to play through what I have in mind. 😍

Oh and the bit of lore on the creation of the first vampire is actual game lore - I got it from @plumbella on YT (I think - it’s been a while and maybe I completely misunderstood her but anyway, it’s lore for me ok 😸)

Well, I finished it.

I'm gonna put some thinky-thoughts under the cut because I'm pretty sure I have mutuals who aren't looking for spoilers.

If the entire game had been like the endgame, we might have stood a fighting chance of the game being a success.

It's just...not good. It's a mid game overall and a bad Dragon Age game.

Weak characters, weak dialogue, weak worldbuilding, often weak acting, the complete dismissal of so much lore, a lack of roleplay options, choices that don't matter, past choices that were never brought up again - not to mention the walking character assassination calling itself Solas and the Varric "twist." Garbage. All garbage.

Plus, the romances. I can only speak to the Lucanis one but that was some of the most godawful writing I've ever seen. I've been a Bioware girlie since the KOTOR days so I'm very familiar with what a Bioware romance can be. And that was just - what the hell even was that? I don't particularly want to write Veilguard fanfic but if I did it'd be to give that poor man an actual arc, romance or otherwise. And a personality.

Oh, and the outfits, by and large, were AWFUL. Never thought I'd miss putting Dorian in plaidweave.

Other people have more eloquently laid out the major structural problems with this game, so I'm not going to try to repeat their words. But it's so weird that I can't even say "Well it was a little rough but it's got good bones" because it doesn't. The bones are rotten too.

I'd like to go back to the day I finished playing DA2 and take back everything I said about it because that game at least had a solid grip on everything that DAO had built.

Every time I listened to the guy who's supposed to be my Inquisitor with his phoned-in dialogue, I just kept thinking that there's another, better, Inquisitor-focused game in southern Thedas and that's the one I'd rather be playing.

All told, I'm just sad. Bioware's been dying for a decade or more. If ME5 fails, EA will shutter the studio. I knew this was gonna be rough. When it was almost a decade of silence followed by "Hey watch for Dragon Age: Dread Wolf!" and then it was unceremoniously changed to "The Veilguard" (may as well call it Thedas Avengers) I just KNEW.

I wanted to be wrong. I wanted so very badly to be wrong.

But lest you think that all I've done is bitch and moan (because, let's be real, that's exactly what I've done), I did like some things.

I would commit war crimes for Antoine. Evka is going to beat me to it though.

Some of the environmental design was really cool, like the dwarven stuff.

I know Manfred and Assan were factory-designed to be lovable and it wasn't as organic as Scratch and the owlbear cub in BG3, but, dammit, it worked, and I liked them.

I had a great time with the mission where you (badly, not at all sneakily) infiltrate Elgar'nan's party, but I wish it had been darker and creepier. Still had fun with that quest.

Always happy to see Morrigan.

Always happy to see Xenon the Antiquarian.

There were scattered snippets of dialogue or party member moments that I enjoyed, but I'm too tired to think of specifics right now. They were in there, though.

I liked being able to pet every cat I saw. Couldn't do that in RDR2.

On the whole, it felt like playing a game made from the bad fanfic of someone who had only read the DAge wiki once. Just about everything it did copied stuff that other games have done better. And it copied none of the stuff that made the other DAge games great.

in private, fred claimed you as his, but in public he insisted you were both just good friends.

you were starting to get pissed off. he loved to play with your feelings like it was all a game. fred never liked serious. nothing he ever did was serious. keeping things casual and fun was his specialty.

you knew that deep down, he felt something stronger for you than just a friends-with-benefits type situation. when you’d been partnered up with a slytherin for a class project, he avoided you the whole week. at first you thought he’d lost interested but then you realised he was jealous.

now, you knew the perfect way to make fred realise he actually had romantic feelings for you and not just lust. the gryffindor party was the perfect place to execute your little plan. even if it was extremely fucked-up.

you invited the slytherin you’d been partnered with a few weeks back. he accepted with no hesitation, which you’d expected. after all, fred had had legitimate reasons to get jealous because he had flirted with you non-stop the whole time you worked together.

fred would be at the party a little later as he’d just finished playing in a quidditch match and needed to shower. you used this time before he arrived to get to work on the slytherin. you needed him to be all over you for when fred turned up.

“honestly i’m surprised you asked me here tonight,” the slytherin admitted, scooting closer to you.

“oh really? and why’s that?”

he leant in so that he could speak closer to your ear, “because when i tried to make a move on you, you shut me down.”

your mind flashed back to being in the library with him, when his eyes had been hovering over your lips before he grabbed one side of your face with his hand. you had leaned your whole body back away from him and he laughed it off.

“maybe i was just nervous,” you lied.

he raised his eyebrows, as if not expecting your answer.

“you see, i seemed to believe it was because of that red-head.”

your heart raced at the thought of fred and his soft red hair, your hands gripping it as he-

no. not right now.

“oh, fred?” you laughed, “he’s just my friend.”

you couldn’t help but smile as you said those words. it felt like sweet revenge to use fred’s words against him in that way.

the slytherin slipped his arm across your shoulders, pulling you in close to his chest. “that’s good news.”

a girl tried to squeeze into the minimal gap which was left on the sofa. you were far too squished for comfort and found yourself being lifted onto the slytherin’s lap. you laughed nervously.

you had worn a short dress on purpose. you knew it would piss of fred to see you wearing something revealing as if trying to impress everyone else. but, now that the slytherin’s hand seemed to creep up your thigh, you were seriously regretting your decision.

you grabbed his hand and told him to slow down, keeping a light-hearted tone.

“i’m sorry, but how do you expect me to resist?” he countered.

you pulled down your dress a little since it had risen up when he lifted you onto him.

where the fuck was fred?

you scanned the party to suddenly notice fred leaning against a wall, staring right at you. his arms were crossed firmly. and he was definitely pissed.

you must have somehow missed him walking in even though you had checked to see who walked in the door every few minutes.

he was watching your every move very closely. this set off something inside of you.

you instantly reached for the slytherin’s face, pulling it towards you before kissing him aggressively. he looked a little startled but soon was slipping his tongue inside your mouth. he didn’t kiss anywhere near as good as fred but you couldn’t care. knowing that fred was watching made your whole body feel like it was on fire.

you prolonged the kiss as long as you possibly could, making sure it appeared passionate. when the slytherin then went for your upper thigh again, you pulled yourself away, telling him you needed to get a drink.

instead of going towards the drinks, you headed straight to fred who was now turned away and speaking to a girl who you knew had a crush on him. you grabbed his arm, pulling him to look at you.

“you got a problem?” you asked.

he put a hand above the wall that you had your back to, blocking you in.

“have you?” he spat.

you tilted your head, acting dumb. “what do you mean?”

he ignored you, turning his face away. you used your tip-toes to be able to touch his red hair and stroke it gently. “fred, tell me.”

fred placed a hand on the back of your head, using it to steer you toward an empty chair. he sat down and patted his lap.

“sit,” he ordered.

you obeyed but instead of sitting with your back to him, as he would have expected, you straddled him, not once looking away from his eyes.

your thighs were either side of his, causing your dress to be unable to stay down at a respectable length. it exposed your underwear but luckily only fred could see. his eyes lingered down there, before you lifted up his chin with your index finger.

“eyes up here,” you teased.

he grabbed your hand, forcing it away from his chin and instead placed it on his crotch. you could feel just how hard he was.

“even though you made me so fucking mad, you still turn me on,” he admitted.

you took your hand away, instead using it to play with the hair at the back of his head. he began to kiss your neck, softly, occasionally using his tongue. you let out a small moan of satisfaction and tore his mouth away from your neck and onto your lips.

as you kissed, you began to realise that it wasn’t going to plan at all. you’d let yourself become too distracted by fred and forgotten all about what you’d set out to do. you were giving in far too quickly.

you began to grind yourself against him as you kissed. perhaps some people would have noticed but you didn’t even care anymore. and neither did fred, who gripped your hips and pushed your body into his with more force than before.

“so good,” he mumbled in your ear.

you kept going, building up the pace gradually. as his fingertips began to sink even deeper into your skin, you knew he was enjoying it.

fred’s hand began to creep up your dress, towards your centre. just before he reached it, you stood up and left him there, all hot and frustrated.

“where are you going?” he asked, his voice desperate.

you ignored him. in one swift motion, you pulled your hair into a ponytail and tied it. this style showed off the backless feature of your dress which flattered your body.

fred watched as you sat yourself back down next to the slytherin, innocently. this sent a rage burning through him. how dare you make him all worked up just to leave him for another guy.

he stormed over to where you were sat.

“what the fuck do you want from me?” he questioned.

“i want you to tell them the truth about us,” you confessed.

he blinked. he thought that you’d liked sneaking around and keeping it a secret. but seeing the hurt on your face as you said those words made him see how much it would mean to you.

he picked you up so that your legs wrapped around his waist. then, walking right through the middle of the party so that everyone could watch, he led you away to the dormitories.

“I’m going to make sure everyone hears just what we’ve been getting up to the last few weeks, love.”

you could almost squeal in delight as you heard those words.

“don’t be so sure that you’ll be able to make me moan loud enough,” you challenged.

but the intense desire in his eyes really didn’t leave any room for doubt. and soon enough you and fred were no longer a secret.

I couldn't help but agree as unfortunately yes Stephen has a banging voice but I have hated this mf since he first showed up at the end of Keep Your Friends Close. Poseidon is so stupidly petty and the worst Father in existence well second to Zeus so I absolutely revelled in his suffering.

When I heard Odysseus's noo scream at the end of Charybdis I immediately thought back to my own reaction when the wind bag first got opened. Tbh though we were all Odysseus at that point as we thought well those who had no spoilers that this was the end of his journey. I love Eurylochus but I am never going to forgive him for destroying his only chance of surviving the show.

I HATE GAMES....that make you go through a dialogue tree only to leave you with only ONE option to choose. i am thinking of one conversation with solas where rook's final and only option of dialogue is "I will do whatever it takes" or whatever and UGHHHH

Tried to do something more pushed and extreme with the lighting this time to get more of that Harsh Sunrise look I wanted in the Morning Painting piece but fell kinda short on and it ended up looking a bit toned-down.. I think I did a better job here! the blue in those shadows really comes out and looks nice and cool.. and I got a nice warm pink undertone in there somehow.. I've referenced before how I have a big google document to keep track of every media I've ever seen in my entire life (just for reference because I like to track everything possible lol… I am the Data Collector), but recently as I was updating it, I thought of actually evaluating them to find out random percentages (like for example, out of Total Shows Watched, what percentage did I finish vs. stop watching, what percentage did I like or dislike, etc.)...

Evaluating these things is made easier by the fact that I already place everything on each subsection of the list into 6 broad ranking categories, so I don't have to go back and guess to figure out how I feel about them or anything. The categories are: Ranking 5 - overall best* (despite some criticisms of course because I'm too much of an Analyzer to ever find anything Perfect lol) Ranking 4 - more positive than neutral, but not good enough to be 5 Ranking 3 - either the good + bad negate each other, OR it's just not memorable/interesting in any way enough to be ranked higher or lower (this is the Default category ALL things are placed in if no other rank applies) Ranking 2 - maybe a few redeemable elements but largely more negatives than positives Ranking 1 - So bad that it circles around to being fascinating to observe in some way (not necessarily Funny, or Good, but just interesting somehow) Ranking 0 - Bad in a genuinely frustrating or obnoxious manner

*("best" primarily defined here as most interesting, rather than most good in a technical sense, or some other measure. I tend to value more highly whether there's something novel or thoughtful about the worldbuilding, tone, writing, base premise, etc - than about whether it's actually executed perfectly.)

And here's the amount of shows that have so far been placed into each category -

TV shows ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 20 shows ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 28 shows ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 114 shows ~ Rank 2 (mid low) -33 shows ~ Rank 1 (low low but intriguingly so) - 14 shows ~ Rank 0 (iredeemably low) - 2 shows

This would make for a total of 211 TV shows overall. However, there are 57 shows within these list marked as "didn't finish" (typically meaning I quit on the very first or second episode - but log them still to keep a record that I at least had a brief view of them).

So my total of genuinely fully watched shows would be more 154. 211 Total, but a More Accurate Total of 154.

Counting them all and using the Total Number Of The List (211) -- that means roughly 9.5% of all total shows I have ever watched (or at least attempted to watch) have been Mostly Good, 13% have been Moderately Okay, 54% have been either entirely Forgettable or some mix of good + bad that lands them right in the Neutral Middle, 15.6% have been Mostly Bad, 6.6% have been Bad (but in an interesting way), and 0.9% have been Terribly Bad.

Additionally, I didn't even get past the first two episodes of about 27% of the total.

Sooo, discounting ones I didn't finish, my total TV shows ever watched in my life would be about 154 (maybe give or take a few, assuming I might have forgotten some from very long ago).

But instead of entire life, let's just say this is the total for 'About 20 Years' (so, not counting very early childhood when I likely wouldn't remember things I saw/have no detailed recollection of them (like for example, I'm sure at some point when I was like 4yrs old I must have seen an episode of Spongebob or something, but I have zero distinct memories of it, can't quote anything of it, and barely recall the premise - so I don't count it on the list, etc.)).

In that case, 154 divided by 20 would be roughly 7.7 shows a year.

Which is actually surprisingly low considering that I often have stuff on in the background for hours whilst I make sculptures and do costumes and stuff (maybe I should have also marked some distinction between 'things I fully paid attention to' and 'things I kind of half listened to whilst sculpting', but that would further split the categories too much probably lol), but I guess a lot of that is youtube videos or random documentaries, so .. eh.. maybe I get it being lower.

Now, doing the same thing for movies-

Movies ~ Rank 5 (highest) - 4 movies (3.4% of total) ~ Rank 4 (mid-high) - 12 movies (10.3% of total) ~ Rank 3 (neutral/default/meh) - 91 movies (78.4% of total) ~ Rank 2 (mid low) - 8 movies (6.8% of total) ~ Rank 1 (low but interesting) - 1 movie (0.8% of total) ~ Rank 0 (irredeemably low) - none in this category (0%)

That makes 116 for a Total (Actually Remembered) Movies Watched In Lifetime (Or At Least In 20 Years).

116 divided by 20 is roughly 5 or 6 movies a year (I feel this has probably been skewed though by adding everything since like elementary school onwards, as I remember a lot more movies from child/teen years.. Whereas, the past 3 years I feel like I've barely seen maybe even 5 movies?? lol). I also have "Didn't Finish" marked on 18 of them. Which means I quit halfway through about 15% of the total movies.

So, a for broader summary stuff..

I seem to be less forgiving to movies than tv shows, by far. Which makes sense to me, I guess, because I love elaboration and details, so "short form" things that only last an hour or two are often lost on me a bit. My biggest complaint with movies is indeed usually walking away just wishing there had been more exposition, more scenes where characters are doing nothing, more "mindless bantering" conversations, more Quiet Downtime and Lore Elaboration and so on lol, so... of course most 1-2hr films end up feeling a bit Not Enough To Draw My Interest/Nothingy to me.

If you count 5 and 4 as "like" and rankings 2 to 0 as "dislike", then for TV shows I at least somewhat liked 48 of them, and at least somewhat disliked 47 of them.. So it's almost exactly the same lol. I'm just about equally as likely to find something bad as I am to find something redeeming about it. But overall, the largest chance is that I just won't really care much for it at all and it will be tossed into the 'neutral' pile, forgotten forever. Movies have a bit better of a balance, "liking" 16 of them, and "disliking" only 9 of them. So I'm slightly more likely to enjoy a movie than to find it annoying - though still VASTLY more likely to just not find it anything in particular, possibly not even finishing it.

ANYWAY.. this is vague and literally pointless, but like I said, I just really find information fun. Like my document where I've rated every apple flavor I've ever tried (like 40 of them now?), or reviewed every oreo flavor (32?), or ranking data from my entire 10 years of Trying To Make Friends process (out of 100 people, roughly 8% chance of a moderate compatibility, 3% chance of high), or etc. etc.. I love to have random pointless things to analyze I suppose lol.

I doubt anyone tracks things in their life in this same exact way, but I'd be interested in hearing any at least somewhat similar data !!! (like, how many TV shows you watch a year on average, and what percentage of those you like vs. dislike (if you keep track of that sort of thing), etc.)). I guess it might be easier with movies, since I think some people use those websites where you curate a list of movies you've seen and you can rate them or something, so maybe the numbers are already available on those places. :0
