Just an fyi, peeps, I am going to try to write mostly about haus and kitchen magic, and Heathenry on this blog. That means there will be more posts on cooking, interior design, witchcraft, Norse stuff, self care, etc. Because, to me, haus magic means building your happy place and finding magic in the mundane. Whereas kitchen magic incorporates aspects of both herbalism and witchcraft.
Like you make a special coffee imbued with a spell to bring you happiness and self love throughout the day.
Most of the nerdy and bookish posts will be moved to my bookblr —
@library-love
It is an anti-capitalist blog just like this blog is that proudly supports public libraries over chain bookstores and Amazon. It is my belief that stories, knowledge, music, and community resources should be readily available to anyone who might need them.
Not just those who can afford them.
If that’s a sentiment you aren’t cool with then unfollow me, peeps. Nothing more I can say🤷🏻
Anyone who has interest in my nostalgia or sfw age regression — like plush toys and stuff — can find those things can on my age regression blog—
@littlespottedcat
It is a completely safe for work blog cause I age regress to relieve trauma and my littlespace is nonsexual. It should be noted that this blog @sarcastic-salem is mostly safe for work. But you will find the occasional kink mention and/or joke as I support the kink community and am pro-sex work, and believe Loki is(can be) a kinky motherfucker.
If you are not okay with that you may want to unfollow.
Thanks, peeps, and remember that Loki loves you❤️

Simple Centering Meditation with Tea and Plants
Tumblr media
Whatever plant you choose, you have to learn what it needs. Use your plants watering schedule to bring order into your own routine and to enhance your feelings of being grounded.
Water your plants around the same time on the same day or days each week. Do this in the morning so the plant has plenty of time to photosynthesize and drink all that water throughout the hours that follow and use this act to set an intention for the day. Maybe you want to focus on abundance or growth – plants are great conduits for both. Maybe it's a pruning day: think about the things you may need to prune from your life.
Combine your tea meditation with your plant practice. Make yourself a cup of herbal tea and think about your intentions for the day, or simply center yourself and focus on the loose herbs in the brew. After you finish drinking it take the herbal mixture and put it on the topsoil of your plants. Do this maybe once or twice a year in the early spring and later in summer/fall. It provides your plants with some extra nutrients and helps you feel as though you've “planted” your most recent intentions in a very real way.
– Haus Magick, Erica Feldmann

The Disability Library
I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!
As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!
Edit 20/10/2023: You can now suggest books using the google form at the bottom!

Could you please give me a list of fics that are inspired by Wuthering Heights?
This is how we find some things.
Go to Archive of our Own, make your pairing HermioneGranger/Tom Riddle (which you can favorite) and, in desktop, on the side, you'll see a gray box saying "Sort and Filter" with a whole bunch of things underneath. On mobile, it's at the top of the screen. (You can also favorite the tag so its easier to search within it)
If you scroll to the bottom of the box, you can search within that tag's results. I put in Wuthering Heights and I got these 3. Our founder Pans has a "how-to" search post. Maybe we'll dig it up and share it again - Haus

So… I saw the movie EMILY about a month ago. And I couldn’t help myself. So here’s a long form one-shot with Hermione in something of Emily’s position and Tom being a far more sinister and unholy Weightman figure. Enjoy!

The letter, curiously addressed to a Miss Hermione Black, spoke of mad, wonderful things. A school of witchcraft and wizardry. Cauldrons, hats, and broomsticks. Best of all, books. Hermione had been using her Will to protect herself for so long as she remembered. Magic had led her here. And now somehow, despite the odds, Magic had come to find Hermione again. She wasn’t a freak or possessed. She wasn’t mad, she was Special. ~First in the Dark Romance Tomione Series: Killing Me Softly

Tumblr media
Look at all of these random background monsters who could have been canon Monster High characters. wasted opportunity. But Clawdeen is happy!
Tumblr media
Cleo is redeemed! (a little)
Tumblr media
"No Apologies" is a great song!
Tumblr media
Dracula has been busting his daughters balls about her grades this whole movie and when she tells him she does witchcraft he tells her "a Vampire doing witchcraft Is simply not done! so you must be the very best witch!" proving I don't think he really cares what Draculaura does with her un-life, as long as she puts her all into it.
Tumblr media
And that was the movie! Do I think they needed to float? no. but it was still a cute ending.
...wait this is a movie in 2022... which means! after credits scene!
Tumblr media
This movie seems pretty confident it's going to get a sequel and I hope it does. I want to see more Monsters! and I want my franchise to do well! But this scene implies that some person with coke nails wants to destroy Vampires and they need Draculaura to do so. so the next movie is going to be Draculaura focused!
Final Thoughts
This review took me 3 days to write, 114 screen shots taken & part of my sanity withered away. Thank you for coming with me on this journey. I am Jess, The admin of Life In The Monster Haus. I started this blog on June 25th 2013. 2 years after Monster High had already taken over my life, I love this franchise and I wanted to share that love with the world. Life in the Monster Haus's name came from my love of 3 things: Monster High, Lady Gaga's Haus of Gaga and Barbies Life in the Dream House. We are 1,500+ strong and counting! I am truly grateful and humbled to have so many of you following my ramblings about the franchise that means so much to me. I was in a dark place when Monster High found me and I feel like I owe them a lot.
I owe you a lot and because of this I feel it is my civic duty to give you guys the goods. I went through this movie with a fine toothed comb then took what I found and put it under a microscope. I have consumed every piece of media in Monster High's canon except for the books and what I found in this movie was shocking! it is a fairly faithful adaptation of the source material! Is it a perfect adaptation? no, it's not. there is a lot wrong with it. but OVER ALL? it's not bad, I don't hate it and it doesn't make my inner child sad like the reboot did. I'm very biased about the reboot, I openly mock it and it scarred me. I'm a fan of the OG series, the Webisodes, the diaries, the movies. I loved it all and I drank it all in like a fine wine. So now we have this new things that I am trying to be critical of with an undying love for G1 and a raw seething hatred that I have for G2. I went into this planning to give it a fair shot, I went in with an open mind and I had a good time.
I think the people who hate this movie on the basis it's live action, are children, both literally and metaphorically and I think the people who hate it on the grounds that it's different from the OG series are bitter grumpy old farts who don't know how to adapt and won't survive the winter and to the people who are "boycotting it" because "The director is racist"... grow TF up will ya? ... MOST directors in Hollywood are racist! does that make it okay? No! But if you start weeding out movies in Hollywood who AREN'T directed by a racist you're gonna be left with like, 5 movies. New Flash: racism is everywhere! it's raining from the sky, it's in your food, it's effing everywhere and We do not punish the entire cast & crew of this movie because the director did some awful shit. the make up and the costumes on this movie aren't perfect - but it's about on par with a Nickelodeon movie. The actors put their all into these performances and everyone looked like they were having a good time! All of them had to sit in make up for hours every day and MOST of them had to wear color contacts because of fantasy eye colors! do you have any idea how tedious and annoying that crap is? They endured all of that shite for us and most of them are kids or baby adults! Do not Boycott this movie, you won't hurt the director you'll hurt every single cast, crew and actor who needs the paycheck & for many of the actors it's the very beginning of their rising star, don't snuff it out.
This move was a perfectly serviceable adaptation. it's not bad, IS IT GOOD???... I'm gonna say yes, it is. I enjoyed it and I'm pretty critical of anything that's not from G1 but I feel like this movie is a happy compromise of what we liked about the OG run of Monster High and bringing some new fresh flavor to the brand. the best of both worlds. I had fun watching this and children will too.
One thing I don't like is I've been seeing reports of the live action actors and the voice actors for the CGI show being bullied, some to the point of them leaving social media and to that all I can add is, what TF is wrong with y'all!? Monster High was affiliated with 3 anti-bullying campaigns ( We Stop Hate, The Kind Campaign & LemonAID Warriors ) AND a campaign to protect LGBTQA+ youth (Mother Monster would be so disappointed). To borrow words from our own Frankie Stein "Did I just walk into the Monster Pre-school?" do y'all really think this kind of behavior is what the creators want? or what the OG creators want done in their name or on their behalf? Do you think ANY ONE wants this!? do you think bullying actors makes you a better fan!? most of these actors are kids, act like you got some sense!
You love Monster High!? then embody Monster High! I was a huge jerk before Monster High taught me kindness - but I can forget it real quick if I catch any of you bullying the actors or each other or anyone over something stupid and trite like "you don't like the direction the franchise is going" Go blow smoke up Mattel's ass if you take issue with the direction of the franchise, they can actually do something about it. The actors? can't and you can complain to corporate overlords, that's okay by me but leave the actors alone.
TL;DR: The movie is good please support the official release, Don't Boycott the movie because of the director, Be nice to the actors and each other.

The journey to build my happy place continues. Today, I got rid of one my most hated possessions —
A filing cabinet.
See, as a disabled person I have LOTS of important paperwork including about half a decade’s worth of medical records for whenever I need to prove my disability to the US government. And papers from the US government stating that they agree that I am disabled. Its just a lot paper, ok?
The reason I hated this stupid motherfucking filing cabinet so much is because I bought it with my first peer advocate worker. Cause she thought I needed somewhere to store the paperwork. And while I was working with her she shamed me for being queer and for being a Pagan until she reduced me to tears, and told me I would burn hell forcing me to relive 20+ years of religious trauma at the hands of the church.
And that is how I learned to stop telling people I’m a Pagan.
The filing cabinet is gone now and I know not everyone believes in cleansing and stuff. But my home just feels so much happier and like its filled with newness, and its like a weight has been fucking lifted.
I feel literally so much better I could cry.

ADHD Bitty headcanons
Now, i might be projecting but I've always seen a lot of myself in Eric, which is why one of my favorite omgcp headcanons is ADHD!Bitty.
So, here they are
Please add to them if you have some as well!
Eric got diagnosed fairly early, but still late enough that his early school years sucked
And even when he did get diagnosed his teachers either didn't care or had no idea of how to help him
And trying meds only led to really bad side effects so he quickly stopped
Safe to say he struggled a bit (and the bullying didn't help that issue either, together with the whole internalized homophobia thing and good lord, someone get this boy to therapy-)
However, as he got older he kept researching and eventually figured out where he struggled and how he could help himself deal
This is also how he got into vlogging because he saw this one youtuber with ADHD who helped him a bunch but that's a different story
Now to his ADHD
Eric has the more discreet kind of ADHD which means he's constantly in fear of people think he's faking it and doing things for attention because he passes as neurotypical most of the time
This also results in a lot of masking, to the point of where he doesn't even know he's doing it or how to stop it.
(Shitty helps him a lot with this by studying with him in either of their rooms and letting him experiment with unmasking and what unmasking actually looks like for Eric.)
(its a fun journey and he discovers that he actually stims quite a lot)
Eric is also one of those nd people who actually thrive listening to loud music
It helps him focus and he can't study without it
It also allows him to take a break from stimming which helps with doing assignment because more often than not his stims involve his hands (and you can't really write an assignment when you keep snapping your fingers and rotating your wrists in all possible directions)
Speaking of assignments
Executive dysfunction
There it is
The Big Bad gateway to self hatred and bad work ethics
Finishing assignments actually became such a struggle after his freshmen year that Eric decided to try meds again
Luckily for him, this time the side effects were much milder and they actually worked quite well for him
(The first day he took Adderal Ransom and Holster walked in on him crying while cleaning his room. It wasn't sad crying. It was oh-my-god-I-finished-my-assignment-baked-three-pies-AND-I-am-now-cleaning-my-room-I-have-never-been-this-productive-in-my-life-someone-hug-me type of crying)
Of course, the meds don't solve his problems, but they do help his overall regulation of his emotions and, for the most part, helps him keep deadlines
Now, he's still a very emotional person but at least now he doesn't have a burnout once every week
And his Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is still thriving as always
(his first year was really tough because of this. Jack meant well but it was a lot for Eric)
His hyperfixations include baking (obviously), Beyonce (also obviously), figure skating (he still keeps up with his favorites) and, funnily enough, history (His thesis was picked very carefully)
As mentioned before, Eric enjoys loud music and he's fairly okay with sounds (he thrives in the locker room and on the ice, as well as in the Haus where its never quiet), but textures both in food and fabrics are a Big Deal to him
Velvet blankets? Get that cursed witchcraft away from him
Mushrooms? He can and will spit them out
Chalk? Absolutely the fuck not
However, he's weirdly okay with touching styrofoam? And doesn't hate the sound of it rubbing together?
He likes it a lot when Chowder comes around
Chowder, his sweet handsome son, has absolutely raging ADHD, to the point where taking his daily meds is absolutely essential
Eric doesn't really have that problem, he can skip a day or two and still be fairly functioning
Chowder however-
Lets just say that him moving into the Haus was a very good thing because of supervision and people reminding him to take his meds
They bond a lot over their shared struggles, and Eric helps Chowder navigate school and hockey at the same time
This is getting off track, I can talk about ADHD!Chowder all day long
anyway
Shitty was the first person Eric told
The next day Shitty got him a stim toy and a t-shirt that had a picture of Raven from that's so Raven and text at the bottom that said "that's so ADHD"
Eric still wears it to sleep
The rest of the team reacted exactly the way Shitty told him they would, totally accepting
A few days after he told them Shitty came into his room with Jack in tow and smiled so wide while Jack said he was autistic himself so if Eric needed it he could borrow Jack's weighted blanket
After that day their relationship started to look like a friendship
And later when they finally began dating Eric got really good at revising his recipes while lying on top of Jack when he was having sensory overload, and Jack got really good at letting Eric stim with his fingers when he forgot his fidget cube
Okay I'm gonna stop
But I might add to it later
Please add something yourself if you want to!
Thanks for reading!

Why are Rhodey and Nando banned from doing the cha cha slide at kegsters????
I was kind of hoping someone was going to ask about this eventually. 😂😂😂 I know you didn’t specifically ask for this, anon, but I’m going to answer this question as Touille. Indulge me.
(Ask me anything about the crickets!)
Touille: The thing is................... I never even heard the Cha Cha Slide before I came to Samwell.
I don’t know, maybe it was one of those weird things, where you don’t realize your country is different from other countries until you leave it. I didn’t know what it was. We didn’t do it in herds at dances like people say they do in America. It’s like witchcraft, I think. That song comes on and people just obey.
I didn’t know what to do when it happened. It was, like, the third or fourth kegster of the year, and we were still getting to know the ropes around the Haus. Louis put some song on and there was this guy in the speakers talking about getting funky, and Rhodey and Nando were on either side of me like, IT’S THE CHA CHA SLIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I was like, what the fuck is the cha cha slide?
But apparently, it was this thing. Where the guy on the song recording yelled out instructions (sometimes Louis joined in through his DJ mic, like he had that shit memorized), and everybody just.... followed along.
At first it was, like, mostly normal. But Rhodey and Nando sort of wound up at the front of the crowd, and it was...... getting aggressive. I stepped off to the side because I thought I was about to get trampled by people trying to sliiiiide to the left and take it back now, y’all.
I had to ask Dex what was going on, because he wasn’t dancing. He looked at me like I was growing a third eye on my forehead. You’ve never heard this song?
At this point I was starting to understand that this was some weird American thing.
Aaaaand that’s when Rhodey and Nando both jumped on separate tables.
Long story short, at the Charlie Brown part, Nando knocked over and broke a lamp, which almost started a fire, and the only reason it didn’t start a fire was because Dex ran into action like some cartoon superhero to douse the sparks. Also, Rhodey literally fell off into the crowd at the same time this was happening, half because his Charlie Brown was really intense and half because he was laughing about the fact that Nando almost started a fire.
They both were uninjured, but Dex had to call off the cha cha slide.
The next morning, he made breakfast at the Haus and called a team meeting. They were both super hungover. I was starting to wonder if they even remembered what happened, but then they both tried to apologize to Dex at the same time.
Rhodey was like, we’re sorry we caused a chaotic flash mob.
And Nando was like, I’ll pay for the lamp.
Dex was like, *long sigh* it’s okay, both of you, but I might have to invoke a bylaw that bans you from doing the Cha Cha Slide at a kegster ever again.
And they were like, that’s a bylaw??????
And Dex was like, it is now. *Pause.* Okay, do you want pancakes?
