Even if the average fan doesn't have the vocabulary to describe the technical terms for what all these dress and skirt types are, they're definitely cognizant of Mattel squeezing the budget of these projects to the point where we can't get a nice fucking full A-line ball gown dress

mattel starting the fang club has made me angrier than anything they’ve done in awhile. i don’t care if they’ve done it with barbie and $9.99 for a year is a steal compared to what they used to do. it’s predatory marketing that’s taking advantage of fans and collectors willingness to put up with their bullshit for the franchise. and the worst part is it’s working. i want to buy it, i want whatever exclusive ghoulia doll they are releasing. is $9.99 going to break my bank account? no it’s not, but their non exclusive dolls are already near impossible to get your hands on and overpriced, there’s nothing to show this will be any better.

do i buy this and get early access to the next midnight runway dolls? probably, but that’s $10 on top of the $75 they’re asking people to pay which is overpriced on its own. what about the polls their advertising? is this going to be an opportunity for them to take actual feedback from their fans? no because it’s mattel, but if it is that is not something you should have to pay for. this is not what doll collecting should be and they keep getting away with it.

the worst part is the fact that as long as people buy it and they make a profit off it this will continue and they will introduce more and more paywalls under the guise of devotion to the brand. the creators who have mattel’s attention are not the ones buying these membership, they will get that ghoulia doll sent to them regardless of if they join that club, their job is to sell it’s worth to the rest of the fans who don’t get expensive, exclusive dolls sent to them. they are not going to talk about this, they’ll say it’s messed up but they won’t tell you not to buy it.

don’t buy it.

mattel is a business and they are a business that is losing money in the grand scheme of things. the reboot isn’t bringing in as much money as they want, that’s why they’re making all these g1 dolls, that’s what people want and they know it now. as long as people are buying these dolls and these memberships they will keep raising prices, midnight runway frankie still isn’t sold out last time i checked and neither did the howliday two pack and i’m positive they’re Mad about it. a lot of people didn’t buy it because of the quality didnt match the pricing. keep doing that, they don’t listen to posts or tweets or call outs. the people in a meeting room do not care about the community or the people buying their products, they care about numbers on a graph.

do not buy these products or these memberships or everything just gets even less accessible.

midnight runway cleo arrived today and genuinely!! i think she might be one of the most gorgeous dolls in my collection, and she also looks very nice with frankie since they’ve got similar jumpsuit looks! she didn’t want to photograph especially well but the various golden aspects of her design catch the light in a stunning way, especially the cape 🥰

speaking of which, her cape is really beautiful and i’m a big fan of the way it is attached under her shoulders and drapes over her arms, it looks so great in combination with the rest of her accessories and outfit 💛 i only have 2 other dolls with capes for reference, Demi Batista and Jade J’adore from Bratzillas, so i’m not sure if this is average for doll capes or not but it’s a very regal effect!

unlike with frankie, i can’t decide if i want to display her wearing her mask as i love both looks a ton!! no hate to frankie’s mask but i think it looks better on their head like a sun visor lmfao

but yeah if you’re a cleo fan and ur on the fence about her from photos but think you’ll like the doll, i’d say go for it! i felt similarly about both her and frankie and both of them are extremely gorgeous dolls, i think the masks are somewhat offputting in the stock photos lol 😭 my biggest complaint is with the stands the dolls come with vs. the dolls themselves!

I was lucky enough to get this nice little mini backpack that is a replica of Haunt Couture Frankie's backpack for only $23 with tax. It is worth every penny. The quality of the material and the way the zipper flows so nicely truly impressed me. I expected it to be of average to below average quality, but it definitely exceeds expectation. I would've paid retail price for this.
