she gets treated in-canon the way fandoms treat female characters that Threaten an m/m ship. it's like, "oh why don't you go sit in the corner and be pretty, misa, while the Men have intelligent conversation and pretend they aren't ten seconds from fucking each other, doesn't that sound nice?" it's infuriating. and MAYBE it's better now but i remember her getting treated the same way in fanfiction too, like we all need to do just as badly by our female secondary characters as fucking tsugumi ohba, but with the added insult of making her be alternately oblivious of the relationship between light and L or actively trying to sabotage it—incompetently, of course, because god forbid misa be allowed dignity or moments of cleverness.

she's one of the first characters I think of when I consider old school fandom misogyny. The annoying bitch and clingy crazy gf allegations were AFTER HER ASS. She's also a lot more intelligent than people gave her credit for, but most seem inclined to take the Very Biased word of our unreliable, narcissistic narrator and his homoerotic arch nemesis and claim that just because she's bubbly and into romance that she's also a complete moron. Which is blatantly untrue. Everyone was afraid of Misa girlbossing too hard. Killing people and devoting yourself to the deranged twink of your dreams even though you know he'll never love you back??? Having a hardcore goth aesthetic and being so Hot even literal Death Gods are into you?? God forbid women do ANYTHING!

Not only is she the victim of yaoi culture, she is the victim of early 2000s misogyny by an author that wanted to introduce a girl character because he knew his male rivals were getting too homoerotic. She is a goth bimbo icon who portrays what I think is one of the few callouts for stan culture and what parasocial relationships can do to both the stan and the idol. The fact that she is a toxic fan of Kira and also hot, funny, sociable is tragic in its own way, which I think the author did try to touch on but was too misogynistic too really get through. Of course, she was reduced to villain status by the fandom and anime alike because she got in the way of the supposed romance in their psychological horror anime.

She's friends with Yugi, the main protagonist, who is usually either shipped with his other self (Yami Yugi), or Yugi/Yami will be shipped with the main antagonist (Seto Kaiba). She tends to get demonised a LOT. I have read SO many stories where she is turned into this evil, scheming harpy of a woman who will get in the way of Twu Wuv.

Shipping should be fun, for the shippers and the shipped. I'll never try to policing feelings or thoughts but the fandom needs to learn to behave. If your emotions or thoughts make you a hater, you need to step back (and go to hell maybe). On the other hand, critical thinking is fair game and I would like to address two rebukes against Nic I've seen a lot lately: the hic given by relationship with a big age gap and the gaslighting towards fans.

First, the issue with age gap is definitely a real one. My problem is that she hasn't confirmed her relationship with Jake. What we know is what she has said in interviews: that she thinks people at Jake's age are babies / too young for her. When she's asked about her crushes, she always chooses people age appropriate and, for what we know, it would be the first time she's with someone that young. And even if she's with him, she seems to try to deviate that narrative. I mean yes maybe Jake was on her lock screen but she didn't want it to be seen. What she wanted us to see was her picture with Golda, holding her hand with intertwined fingers. What she wanted us to know is that she feels lucky when she can bring friends to events and talk with them as they are getting ready. And she made it clear that she wasn't happy with the pap pics and that DM is often BS. So, at least, she's clearly not promoting this kind of relationship. Maybe because they are not dating, maybe because she wants privacy or maybe because it could hurt her professionally. The point is: she sees the issue and is not sending the message that this kind of relationship is unproblematic.

I read also a lot, especially on Twitter, that she's not consistent and that she is gaslighting fans. It is said about two topics: her ask for privacy and the Lukola shipping.

About her asking for privacy and the way she brings Jake everywhere, and used her relationship with Luke to promote a show, I'll say what I've already said about her behavior with Jake, she won't change her behavior because of what we are saying. She's unashamedly herself, we love it when it's about her political awareness, her cute unhinged behaviors, her Queen statements, ... So we can't be mad at her when it's about Jake. If she feels she's right, she won't be afraid of the consequences, we've seen it with her advocacy for Palestinians. And she's kinda right here too, there is a difference between what is given and what is taken from you, there is a difference between stories posted by her, pics taken with her consent and stolen pics. Yes you can act accordingly to reality (and hide your bf/ rumored bf because there is no privacy when you are a celebrity) or you can act accordingly to your values and what you think reality should be. Nic has made her choice.

She's also accused of gaslighting fans about her relationship with Luke.

First I've read that she's hurting Luke when she entertains the ship while he stays quiet. It's crazy how people don't have memory when it's about sm. Luke does it too guys, and he's probably the one who keeps me on the ship because yes it's less often but it's crazier imho. Of course there are the jealousy, the staring, the check on her boobs, the bum pinching, the sneaky touchings, the moment in Brazil when he was putting Nic's hand on parts of his body that are not for friends or the infamous "I could be the Ken for hEeErr" (among other crazy things), but given the timing, let's say it was all PR (it wasn't). But after the 90 days, we had the story with the bloopers which he had to download from Twitter then cut to post as stories on IG (why Luke why?), the 3rd October post which doesn't make sense without the Lukola context, and the shared selfie. (We can also speculate about the wink to Nic biscuits'post in his Spain dump, the copy of Nic's font, the use of the Xx/xx, the "somewhere in Mayfair", his hands in HB post about Nic's fitting, ...). Yes it's less Lukola/polin content than Nic but look at his sm activity, proportionally it's huge. He barely posts about his fashion appearance, criquets about Viana, some hotel promotions and that's it, the rest is about Lukola (not even Polin in fact). So no I don't think Luke is hurt by Nic entertaining the shipping, they're doing it together.

So some fans feel betrayed by Nic because she has posted some Easter eggs implying she's dating Luke. I think it's unfair to say that. I agree she hasn't completely shut down the "more than friends" allegations. She keeps saying the same as they were saying during the tour: they are friends (not just friends) and blablabla about the unique relationship they have and that there is love, and oc no mention of a partner. So no, she's not really closing the door, but she's definitely not saying something is happening rn. And let's be honest, she has friendzoned Luke a lot. I'm the first one saying it always has been coupled with mixed messages, again not closing the door but not saying something is happening. The other Easter eggs are songs, the ring, the font, and a few posts about how great Luke is, the polaroid and the shared selfie. Nothing saying they are together rn. Everything about: Luke is important to her, and is kinda always on her mind. I'm not saying it's crazy to be a ring truther or to say the meeting with her family was meaningful, there are hints showing you could be right but you can't be sure. So you can't blame Luke and Nic if you were wrong and didn't understand their message.

I'm not a hypocrite, yes they're playing some games with the shipping, but it could just be fan service. It would be unfair to say they've said they were together.

Now why are they doing it and why don't they clarify their relationship with Jake and Antonia? Big question and that post is already way too long...

How do you feel about LO fans reading Rekindled? I mean, I know Rekindled wasn't created only for the critical side of the fandom to read, but have you ever had LO fans that read Rekindled coming at you because of your anti lo posts?

Honestly, I find I don't get that much harassment for it here, which has been great. One of the most common criticisms I get are accusations that I'm "riding off Rachel's coattails", but considering I'm making this comic entirely from the ground up, for free, in a way that fuses my style with Rachel's (which means it's still fairly distinguishable from LO) technically I'm harming Rachel's bottom line far less than the legitimate fans who draw Rachel's style 1:1 and sell adoptables and commissions LMAO (and that's not to be accusatory, I think it's neat that there are artists who can replicate it that well, but idk why people get mad at me for doing literally the same thing and I'm not even profiting off it lol it's literally just because I'm a critic and not a diehard fan). And if I didn't genuinely enjoy working on this project beyond getting fake internet points, then I would have dropped it from the starting gun, I'm not good at committing myself to new projects (yaaay ADHD).

I think it helps that I (intentionally) don't use the general LO hashtags, I try to stay away from using any fan-focused hashtags because ultimately the work I do isn't necessarily going to be meant for them and I don't want it getting recommended to them if that's not the kind of thing they wanna see. Of course, that won't stop fans from finding it, but if they're getting recommended stuff from the anti community, then chances are it's because they've already been lurking in it. If a fan of LO finds my work, they're more than free to read it and if they enjoy it, great! I was a fan once too, the comic itself isn't so much for the anti's and "haters" as much as it is for people like me who used to adore this comic and wanted more than what we got.

Considering LO is going to be ending by mid next year, Rekindled will very likely be going on long after it, so who knows, it might even become a new favorite for fans who want more LO-style H x P content. Of course, it'll come with all the layers of salt that come loaded with my content, but that's what we have the Dillyhub mirror for now ;)

I find I tend to get more pushback on Instagram and I can only assume it's because IG's recommendation algorithms work a little differently. I thiiink IG might be suggesting accounts that are followed by other accounts (so through mutuals) so if a fan is following the same people I am (ex. editolympus is one I can think of off the top of my head), regardless of whether or not those accounts use the same hashtags I do, I get recommended to them. I imagine it's a pain for people who don't want to be seeing my content but they can take their own advice for once - don't like it, don't read it (￣y▽,￣)╭

Ok, I didn't want to post this at first. But seeing James feeling that he has to apologize to the annoying selfish crowd makes me mad and I need to vent...

Of course xitter and IG folks are as obnoxious and spiteful as always. I expected some snide stupid comments but didn't expect that it's boiling up to so much ignorance and negativity, despite how transparent, nice and understandable the situation and statements of James, Net and Domundi are??? Heck, even one of his fan translator accounts I followed WHO TRANSLATED his statements is going mimimimimi 🙄 (girl you literally translated what he said and yet you don't understand??)

Before I go into the rant, I want to clarify that there are a lot who support and respect him under his posts. And his friends and family support him too. So it's not all bad but still:

The audacity and distortion of some peoples minds to either make fun of him now, want to see him fail, accusing him of getting into straight roles now in a heavy implicatory tone... (1. don't assume someone's sexuality 2. stop believing every BL actor is cishet 3. he's one of the more direct and open LGBTq allies among BL actors since the start of his acting career 4. I understand EVERY BL actor who turns his back on this industry with fans like these) Or to think they can demand him to just do one last drama just for fans pleasures sake (that would take MONTHS of work???). Imagine someone says they are unhappy and want to leave and you say "no, stay one year longer unhappy for my personal entertainment". Or demand for him to give even more personal details of the reasons why he steps back because apparently him being unhappy and has different goals in life isn't reason enough (he's not even quitting, he just shifts focus on other things!).

Aren't James, Nets and Domundis statements enough on this matter? He even made it extra clear that they (especially he and Net) parted on good terms, just have different goals and opinions in life which they accept for each other! They are still supportive friends to eo. James was not really happy anymore with the situation / workload / job and rather wants to focus on his other dreams and passion that bring him more joy!

And ya know I can guess another reason. One that always makes me a bit worried about him. You don't need to be a psychologist to add 1+1 here (if you don't lack complete empathy):

Those who follow him a bit closer (meaning: watch his interviews and not just the ship / drama related parts, follow his social media stuff, watch his live streams), know that he's a very genuine, deep thinking and sensitive person. From what he publicly shows, tells and lets out in his artwork (which is not happy art + here some of his thoughts + his fashion motives aren't all happy either). He already has horrible experiences from being bullied in school back then, where even teachers didn't help him (his family supported him tho). He once dropped during a live stream that he's "not always happy" and that's why he sometimes asks fans to encourage him. Under his top 5 fav books he recommended, are 4 self-help mental health type books for how to deal with toxic people, self-worth strengthening and mental recovering. (the other one is about flower meanings). He wanted to act as Uea in Bed Friend because he can relate to him, and wanted to tell people through him that it's ok to get help if you struggle and experience bad shit (like him getting bullied for his appearance back then).

I am not saying that he's constantly depressed. He seems more like someone who's fighting it and recovered from bad phases. But there are already cracks, so to say. But he seems to have a good support system with his fam and friends.

But he's struggling with haters / toxic fans since months (+ now even more). THAT worries me. That shit can get even to the most mental stable person. He said he tries to block and ignore them but it still gets to him every time he sees bad comments during live streams. I don't watch all his lives but I still witnessed it 3 times that he had to ask people to be respectful to him. Which I love seeing him standing up for himself and setting boundaries. But I can imagine that things like that are another factor for him to make a cut now.

It might not be that bad of an injury (as he says) but he's in pain and has to rest for a while now. And before that he was part of Domundis concert (+ training for that!) and fan meeting in Korea. And if you look at his drawings and his thoughts you might notice that him working in this, sometimes quiet shallow, industry seems a bit contradictive. That's why I already expected him to not stay forever in this industry. I just didn't expect him to step back so soon. Hey, I am a bit sad too, to see NetJames separate and James going a different slight way now. But I respect that a lot, that he knows when to say stop and pulls through with it. Now if only people could stop making him feel guilty over it.... It's his life and dreams. He doesn't owe the public anything. You do realize that majority of those “fans” who were “hating” on him and whatever gf aren’t actually his fans at all. You bet if AW turns out to be a raging racist or cultural appropriator, those same people will bring up every little misstep he’s ever made and those won’t be his fans. His fans are those mashed into whatever chaos is happening that see his wrongs and try to politely explain why something’s not okay... but of course when he’s mad, he’s mad at his fans instead and the punishing is his SM boycott. That’s why the die hard fans turn so vicious at the mere negative thing being said about him, saying that’s why he left us. They suffer from his decision and think that if everybody starts kissing his ass, he’d come back. He knows it. That’s why he mashed his fans with the haters, because it gets the desired result. If he really saw those hate comments, he’d know that those weren’t from his fans at all. But then again, any criticism seems to be treated as hate. The only way is the blind worship it seems. That’s what his major fan page on IG does. She judges him for the same shit we all do, but stays silent publicly where he might see. She’s not so silent with her opinions on dms tho.

I wasn't going to say anything because Nicola had taken down the video and all I had to say on that was a summary of whatever has already been said about her on this blog.

And to be clear this isn't to talk about that video but the harassment I've been getting on Twitter just because I pointed out the contradictions NC said in her video with how she's been conducting herself online and in interviews. Nothing was false or misinformation. Simply stating things she's done and how as fan of colour they all have come across as micoraggressions.

Yet I've been labelled a liar, told to shove it up my ass and to kill myself. Apparently now I'm stupid and need to be reported dor "spreading hate" Also I'm "justifying the hate" against her. They really saw my very first tweet and went all:

I literally start the tweet acknowledging that Nicola DOES probably get hate from a gross minority of the fandom (no particular subfandom just general haters) about Pen's weight and what not. Besides, hate is very much different from the criticism that most of the fandom has against Pen's actions against Marina and Eloise.

I also say that Nicola had really fair points and shed light on the PR of it all which I have always blamed for the most part. I believe I gave Nicola points and agreed with her where it counts while also disagreeing with some of the false statements she has made. Then I literally end the thread on a note saying that there's a difference between criticism and hate. Guess who ends up getting hate against them anyway?

All I did was call out how her actions throughout her Bridgerton tenture is harmful. Turns out the worst thing you can call a white celebrity with intense stans a racist. And instead of listening to us, fans of colour who feel hurt by her actions, they send us death threats.

The Polin fandom can say it's not all of them. But where are you all telling your fellow stans to back off when you see vile tweets like this:

But I just can't respect you all for STILL staying a part of that group and by being silent, you're being implicit in this hate and abuse against fellow fans of the show. Yes, we may dislike each other but the least you can do is not send threats and hate. It's common decency and Internet etiquette.

I only know one or two Polins and they are mostly Book Polins who have called this shit out. They're in the minority so they can only do so much and I am thankful for them for doing so. But the rest of yall are just happy to sit by while a large majority of the fandom (not only Polins but mostly from you guys) sends racist, homophobic and now sexist and slut shaming insults and death threats to every other subfandom until we shut and just take it.

I can have easily taken all the shit thrown at me yesterday in stride and I really thought I did. And I was only ever going to make a post telling yall to stop slutshaming Simone (definitely still making that post) but I am my rope's end. I never let this shit get to me because I know better than to believe these lies so you must understand how intense it is and how upset I must be feeling to make this post. Again I don't want to indulge more but you never fucking know what anyone is going through.

This is the last thing I'm saying on this issue (alongside the post about Polins slutshaming Simone) and honestly on Bridgerton.

I was going to make a separate and most likely will for anyone who missed it but this alongside that Nicola interview where she puts down S2 for not having enough sex while propping up her own season was the final push for me to put this fandom behind me. This blog will still be active but it is no longer going to be a Bton blog after I clear my asks. This shit is just not worth my mental health or risking my life.

With the death of Tony Stark, Justin Hammer thought he could be the weapons juggernaut of the world once again. Only problem was he tended to sell his weapons to gangs, mercenaries, and terrorists, causing you, Sam, and Bucky to put in overtime.

You were currently fighting a man almost three times your size who was trying to stop you from seizing the vibrianium bullets Hammer intended to sell. And oh boy, his big ass was giving you a hell of a time.

At times you would forget that Steve passed the mantle of Captain America onto you until you felt the weight of the shield on your arm. Remembering that you had one of the world’s most infamous weapon at your disposal, you threw your shield at the big guy effectively knocking him off his feet.

“Took you long enough. Steve Rogers would’ve already taken me down. Maybe you’re not cut out to be Captain America.” The man gloated like he hadn’t just got his ass handed to him.

“It’s true that Steve would’ve knocked yo ole big Deebo lookin’ ass out faster, but” you waved your hands up and down your body, “this ain’t your grandmama’s Captain America.” Then you sent a nose crunching kick to the man’s face, sending him to an instant nap.

Grabbing the bullets, you heard another dumb argument between Sam and Bucky as they entered the room.

“Man, bullshit! I saved your ass, just admit it,” Sam claimed.

Bucky outwardly groaned and rolled his eyes. “Listen, Parrot, I had it under control. I knew that guy was behind me.”

“Is this how it’s always gonna be with you two? Because if that’s the case I’m going up in space with Aunt Carol and my dad.”

Sam grabbed the case of bullets and kissed you on the cheek. “We were always like this. The only difference now is that you’re the only one to break us up.”

Bucky ran up to the two of you and pushed Sam away from you. “Keep your bird beak off my girlfriend!”

The two of them were about to argue again, but you kicked both of them in the shins to get them to shut up.

“Fuck, doll!”

“What the hell Fury?”

Both grabbed their injured shin and hopping on one leg, howling in pain.

Pulling from the memories of your dad giving you many lectures, you conjured up the spirit of your father and threatened your best friend and boyfriend. “If you two don’t get it together, imma buy you a get along shirt and make you walk around in public with it. Okay?”

Each nodded their head furiously, hating the idea of being stuck in a t-shirt with the other.

Once they got their bearings, Sam and Bucky handed off Hammers’ men to the feds while you were talking to T’Challa about the bullets.

“We’re all good here, Cap. What did T’Challa say?” Bucky’s noticed at how your eyes slightly watered at your new nickname, but he didn’t dare address it at that moment. He knew you didn’t want to show any vulnerability while you were in public with your suit on.

“Thanking us for getting the bullets. In two days, we’ll be going to Wakanda to give them to the Wakandans.”

Bucky breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank God! Shuri can fix your suit.”

You looked down at your suit in disbelief. Shuri had done a good job you thought. She made the suit for your body and made it out of vibranium. The Wakandan princess was ecstatic that you were the new Captain America and said what was the point of a vibranium shield without a vibranium suit.

“What’s wrong with my suit?” You asked crossing your arms and drawing your eyebrows.

“That.” Bucky commented while pointing at your ass. He waved his hands in the shape of your body. “It’s too form fitting. How can I concentrate on beating someone’s ass when I’m too busy looking at yours?”

“Ugh, maybe I need to find someone to beat your ass so you could focus on saving yours.” You stuck your tongue out and laughed at him.

Bucky shuddered at the thought of having to fight more people. “Never mind. It’s perfect.”

Later that night you were sitting between Bucky’s legs on the bed while he helped twist your hair. The two were working in peaceful silence when Bucky thought it was the perfect time to bring up what happened earlier.

“Hey babe.”

“Hmm?”

“Earlier today when I called you Cap, your eyes almost watered. What’s up with that, babe?”

Grateful that your back was to Bucky, you answered him quicker than you would if you would’ve been facing him.

As you opened your mouth to respond, your phone vibrated, alerting you to a text.

Bucky followed your directions and Steve filled your tv screen. Both you and Bucky exchanged looks, asking if the other knew why Steve was on tv, but both of you were in the dark.

“Hello, everyone it’s Steve Rogers. I should’ve done this a long time ago, but better late than never. The other day, I was out getting a cup of coffee and I heard someone talking down on Captain America. Not me, Captain America, but your new Captain, Y/N Fury.”

You scooted out of Bucky’s lap and closer to the tv, turning up the volume making sure you didn’t miss a word Steve said.

“I don’t know how many of you have been loved or protected by a black woman, but I’m gonna assume it’s a lot, judging by the amount of people talking smack. Y/N being Captain America is the best thing that’s happened to the world. She will fight for you and be in your corner despite all the dumb things you do and won’t be afraid to tell you what you did wrong. That’s what you get when you have a black woman as Captain America. That’s what you get when you have Y/N Fury as Captain America. And if you don’t like it, I guess you’ll just have to be mad, because she’s not going anywhere.” At the end of his statement shrugged his shoulders, blue eyes twinkling with mirth, and left his seat.

Steve soothed all your worries. He got on tv, which he hated, and basically told those who couldn’t get on board to go fuck themselves.

Feeling like your old self, you grabbed your phone and logged onto IG live. “Hey everyone, sorry for my hair looking a mess.” You ran your fingers through your untwisted hair. “Anyways I just wanted to say…Steve Rogers just told y’all to stay mad cuz my black ass is the new Captain America!!!” Laughing obnoxiously into the screen, you then stuck your tongue out, while Bucky was in the background slightly embarrassed and proud at the same time.

Bucky decided it was time to end your live when you began twerking. He didn’t want everyone to see what you were working with. So, he snatched the phone and quickly ended your live video. “That’s enough of that.”

“Buck, what was that for? I was only showing them what America’s ass could do.” Your boyfriend instantly turned red and you achieved your goal. You loved messing with Bucky and making his possessive side show out.

“I don’t remember America having your ankles up to your ears and screaming out in ecstasy last night.” Bucky gave you a crooked smirked as he cockily referenced your bedroom adventures.

“Anyway, do you feel better?”

Rubbing his nose against yours, Bucky whispered back, “I love you too, Captain.”
