no hang on i'm not done bitching about acosf. the scene where nesta's like "rhysand's a dick" and cassian and azriel both respond with "HOW DARE YOU INSULT PERFECT RHYSAND" is one of the worst scenes i've read in a book. this series' biggest problem is the author's insistence that i should like some characters and dislike others and this one scene is like that distilled into Irritation Juice. i do not care how much the book tries to push "SEE RHYSAND'S THE BEST GUY EVER ISN'T NESTA TERRIBLE FOR DISLIKING HIM" because he's really fucking annoying and i wish he had stayed dead. if rhysand was actually a well-written character, the narrative wouldn't be pushing for me to like him so badly.

I hate video as a format generally because I’m a fast reader, but there is nothing worse to me than a theology video wherein the speaker looks directly into the camera. just a guy alone in a room staring at a camera telling it about Jesus. the dialogical aspect of the Word is totally absent. there’s no encounter. there’s no emptying of self to meet the beloved where they’re at. hate it so much.

atsushi is severely underlooked as a character, all because of his repeated scenes and peoples need to call him dramatic and crybabyish. what people miss is that these repeated scenes show purpose and are needed in understanding his character. how atsushi is in fact schizophrenic and hallucinates his past traumas and relives them at any simple mistake he makes *for a reason*. in fact, his brain forcefully blocks out the worst of his traumas and there’s many things we don’t know that likely happened to him. there’s high chances that his biological parents found out he could regenerate and may have resorted to cannibalism in forms of torture for him. and yet? people choose to ignore this in favor of looking at dazais coping mechanisms of blocking his emotions in different ways, ignoring the parallels that atsushi and dazai do in fact have. dazai is called *relatable* and atsushi is called *annoying* and it highly pisses me off. it’s always so much easier for people to cope—shortcuts of continuing bad behaviors instead of improving and getting past it. both dazai and atsushi become better, indifferent ways. dazai “coped”; the world was cruel to dazai so he was cruel back—and to put simple, he blocks his emotions in ways to show how much he *doesnt* care what happens, good or bad, but eventually shows with his actions that he does care (by a lot) & has a path of slow improvement. the world was cruel to atsushi, so he chose to help improve it. and yet, after all he’s gone through, he looks at the youth and the old alike with such joy in his heart for just being there. he has so much sunshine and love for protecting people, in spite of. he slowly improves at the idea of forgiving himself to help get over his trauma, cruel to no one but himself. he improves because you can’t truly love anyone without loving yourself first. atsushis character is so wonderful, the idea that a person can remain so heart filled regardless of horrid troubles never fails to move me. i wish people would look much more into it and not just the other seemingly easier ways of dealing with trauma from other characters’ perspectives.
