#hate is exhausting and i have many better things to do

Agreed, except for when I lived in Nevada and Texas. Sad to say a lot of folks in both of those places (not all, but a LOT, especially in the latter) do not want everyone to have those good things.
The sheer daily exhaustion from having to interact with people who fundamentally didn't want "certain people" to have happier, better, easier lives for everyone is a huge part of why we moved out of there, all the way across the ocean.
And here in the UK we do meet people like that on occasion, but at least they're a smaller percentage than what we encountered in Texas, even in "blue" Austin.
Once you've seen endemic hate, you can't ever unsee it again. It's an ugly beast. It devours individuals and communities whole. It eradicates empathy. It obliterates the scientifically-shown, logically-demonstrated benefits of equity and equality.
The lengths too many people will go to to prevent goodness in the world because of the fear that someone they don't like will also experience that goodness is profoundly disturbing. I've spent decades of my life trying to talk people out of that mindset, and other than a few rare exceptions, I have failed.
This is why bigotry of all forms is a cancer. It poisons a mind that would otherwise agree with community-mindedness and turns it into one that supports lines drawn with swords raised, and the rich hoarders swoop in to grow that monster and feed from it.
obsessed with how fixable society is, on a structural level.
obsessed with how all you need to do is throw money at public education and eliminate most standardized testing and you will start getting smarter, more engaged, kinder adults. obsessed with how giving people safe housing, reliable access to good food, and decent wages dramatically reduces drug overdoses and gun violence. obsessed with how much people actually want to get together and fix infrastructure, invent new ways of helping each other, and create global ways of living sustainably once you give them livable pay to do so. obsessed with how tracking diseases, developing medicines, and improving public health becomes so much easier when you just make healthcare free at point of use.
obsessed with how easy it all becomes, if we can just figure out how to wrench the wealth out of the hands of the hoarders.
#i really don't need to hear “not all texans”#because “yes all of us immigrants who had the misfortune to live there”#same for all of us who lived there with a uterus

Yes, Coach! | A.H
pairing: married!soccer mom!reader! x soccer coach! hotch
warnings: reader is married.. her husband sucks tho! i hate my husband final boss. mentions of cheating, comparing incompetent husband to hotch? mentions of what shitty fathers do to their daughters. daddy issues in kids. pre relationship pining (if you close one eye and squint) reader wants hotch bad. i think that’s all? lmk if i missed anything! not proofread bc im lazy.
word count: idk this is so long tho
The early morning sun beamed on your face as you dragged your husband through the soccer field.
Your daughter Luci clinging to your other hand as she happily skipped towards her team, oblivious to the tension between her parents.
Brian— your husband was a pity excuse for a man in your opinion, he thought the world turned because he spun it— he thought he painted the stars with his ass and he couldn’t be a worse father if he tried. You practically had to force him off of the computer to get him here and he complained the whole way there.
You’d gotten into a fight that morning as well, you caught him talking to his secretary in a way that went far beyond professional and you (reasonably) had called him out on it.
Brian never cared though— he always thought you didn’t have the courage to find better yet every time he threw cash at you to get you off his back— you pocketed it in hopes of collecting enough to take Luci and leave him.
He was a lawyer, a very well off one and when you asked to have a job he’d told you no. Plain and simple he just said no. Of course it wasn’t his call but you were just 22 at the time, he was 45 you just assumed he’d had a reason to want it that way but as you grew up you realized it was nothing but an excuse to keep you helpless.
You set up one of the folding chairs you’d been forced to carry by yourself, feeling eyes on you from afar. “Sit here— im gonna take her to her team.” You spat, damn near shoving him into the chair and walking her over to her team. As you approached the team, you raised your sunglasses to rest on the top of your head, making direct eye contact with him.
Aaron Hotchner.
In all of his coaching glory.
When you couldn’t get Brian to coach Luci’s team, he had— alongside his colleague David, who you now knew as a famous author/ FBI agent.
His son Jack was Luci’s age, they went to the same school and you knew enough about him to know just how many people felt the same way you do.
He was your favorite fantasy. In your head he was perfect— a real man. He had everything Brian didn’t. He was a good dad— enjoyed helping out and he even brought the half time snacks.
“Luci! How are we feeling today?” Aaron’s enthusiastic voice boomed, once you stepped up to him. Luci giggled and wrapped her arms around his leg, your apologetic smile earning a chuckle from him. “I wanna play!” Luci cheered before running off to run drills with Jack and the other kids who’d gotten there early.
“How are you feeling today coach?” You chirped, which made Aaron roll his eyes. “Like it’s 7 am and I cannot wait for this to be over..” He said, his voice stoic. “Of course it’s Mr. FBI who gets stuck coaching little kids soccer..”
That made him grin, his tired eyes meeting yours once again. “Well it’s not like anyone else wanted to..” He chuckled, his gaze flickering over to Brian who was most likely texting his secretary.
“I could barely even get him here..” She groaned. That got his attention and his gaze snapped from Dave over to you.
Aaron’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly, but you caught it. He had that way about him—quiet, observant, always noticing the things people tried to hide. His eyes flickered back to Brian, who was still glued to his phone, oblivious to the way his wife stood here, exhausted and exasperated, practically begging for someone to just see her.
“He doesn’t seem very invested,” Aaron said carefully, his voice low enough that only you could hear.
You huffed a humorless laugh. “Brian’s only invested in himself and his barely legal secretary.”
Aaron didn’t reply right away. He just studied you, as if trying to decide how far he could push before he overstepped. He must have settled on just enough, because his voice was softer when he finally spoke.
“You deserve better than that.”
Something about the way he said it made your throat tighten. Maybe it was the certainty in his voice, like it wasn’t just an empty platitude but a fact—one that he believed, even when you struggled to.
You forced a smile, shifting your weight uncomfortably. “Yeah, well… I can’t exactly afford to leave him— not yet anyways.”
Aaron’s gaze lingered on you for a moment longer, like he wanted to say something else. But before he could, Luci called out to you from across the field, waving wildly.
“Mommy, look!”
You turned just in time to see her send the ball flying into the net, her little face lighting up with pride. You laughed, clapping your hands. “Great job, baby!”
Aaron smiled at her enthusiasm, then looked back at you. “She’s got a good support system. That counts for a lot.”
You swallowed hard. You weren’t sure if he meant Luci or you. But either way, the weight of his words settled deep in your chest.
It was then that you wondered if maybe—just maybe—someone did see you.
You smirked, tilting your head as you let your sunglasses slide back down over your eyes, shielding the way they lingered on him. “You think so, Coach? That sounds a lot like a compliment.”
Aaron huffed a small chuckle, shaking his head as he crossed his arms. “Just stating the truth.”
“Well,” you drawled, shifting your weight onto one leg and allowing your hip to jut out just slightly, “I don’t hear it very often. So maybe you should keep talking.”
His eyes flickered to you, then briefly over to Brian—who was still hunched over his phone, completely uninterested in his own daughter.
“You’re married,” he reminded you, voice low but firm.
You let out a breathy laugh, tapping a manicured nail against your chin. “Legally, yeah. Happily? That’s debatable.”
Aaron’s jaw tightened. You could tell he was trying to stay neutral, but you saw the way his fingers flexed against his arms, like he was holding something back.
“Still,” he said, meeting your gaze, “It’s a line I don’t cross.”
You stepped closer—just enough that he’d notice, but not enough to cause a scene. “You ever think about it, though?”
His eyes darkened, his throat bobbing as he swallowed. He didn’t answer right away, but the silence between you was heavy, charged. You knew he was fighting something—whether it was you or himself, you weren’t sure.
Finally, he exhaled sharply through his nose, shaking his head as if to clear it. “You should go sit down,” he muttered, nodding toward the field.
You grinned, leaning in just slightly before you turned on your heel. “Sure thing, Coach.”
As you walked away, you swore you could feel his eyes on you. And that? That was a win.
After a little while of watching the game you decided to move your chair closer to where Aaron was so you could watch Luci better and get away from your no good husband who hadn’t even acknowledged that you were back.
The second half of the game started, and for a while, you let yourself actually enjoy watching Luci play. She was fast—small but determined, her little legs carrying her across the field with everything she had. You caught Aaron watching her with something close to admiration, his arms crossed as he called out encouragements.
Then came the moment that made your heart swell. Luci went for the ball, trying to pass it to Jack, but another kid bumped into her, knocking her down. It wasn’t a hard fall, but she sat there for a second, fear written all over her face.
Before you could even react, Aaron was already moving.
He crouched beside her, his voice gentle but firm. “You okay, kiddo?”
Luci pouted, looking down at her scraped knee. “I fell.”
Aaron smiled, reaching out to brush a stray curl from her forehead. “Yeah, but you’re tough, aren’t you?”
She sniffled, then nodded.
“You wanna know a secret?” he asked, leaning in conspiratorially.
Luci’s big eyes widened. “What?”
Aaron’s expression turned serious, but there was a glint of something playful in his gaze. “The best soccer players fall all the time. It just means you’re trying your hardest.”
That got a small giggle out of her. “Really?”
“Really.” He stood up, offering his hand. “Come on, let’s show ‘em how tough you are.”
Without hesitation, Luci grabbed his hand, letting him help her up. She wiped her eyes quickly, then ran back into the game like nothing happened.
You felt something catch in your throat.
And then, as if that wasn’t enough, Jack came up beside Aaron, looking up at him with a grin. “You didn’t tell me that secret.”
Aaron ruffled his son’s hair. “Didn’t need to, buddy. You already know you’re tough.”
Jack puffed out his chest, clearly proud.
Your chest tightened in a way that had nothing to do with Brian sitting just a few feet away, ignoring all of it. You swallowed, blinking a few times before looking at Aaron again.
He must have felt your eyes on him because he turned to meet your gaze and for the first time all morning you had to tear your eyes from his.
You watched as Luci dashed across the field with renewed energy, her eyes constantly searching for the ball, her little legs moving as fast as they could go.
She practically lit up when Aaron spoke to her, the way she smiled up at him when he praised her, or even when he simply acknowledged her presence. It wasn’t the kind of admiration a child typically had for a coach—it was something more, something pure and you found yourself upset that you hadn’t noticed it sooner.
She adored him— in a way you were kind of scared of.
As Luci ran past you, her face flushed with excitement, you caught her eye and waved. “You’re doing great out there, lovey!” You cooed at her.
She barely even glanced at you. Her eyes were locked on Aaron, who was standing on the sideline, coaching Jack on positioning. “I’m gonna score, Momma! Watch me!” she shouted, her voice full of pride.
Your heart softened, the words sticking in your throat. You hadn’t seen her this alive in a while. Luci had always been a bright kid, full of imagination and energy, but there was something different about her when she was playing soccer and Aaron was around. He had a way of drawing out her best qualities—the things she sometimes got too shy to reveal.
You could see the way Aaron’s eyes softened as he watched the team, the way his face, usually so composed, broke into a small but genuine smile.
Luci and Jack scored goal after goal together and he watched with eyes full of pride. Luci thought they were for her but you knew it was mostly for his son Jack.
The thought made you sad— she hadn’t looked over at Brian the whole game, she didn’t even care that he was there.
You swallowed hard, a mixture of sadness and something else settling in your chest. You were happy that Luci had found something so fun that she adored but the thought of her forming an unhealthy bond with her soccer coach did frighten you a little.
Luci adored him. She looked up to him, trusted him, and believed in him in a way she never did with Brian. And, if you were being honest, you couldn’t blame her.
The realization hit you harder than you expected. For all the times Brian had failed, Aaron had stepped in—not just as a coach, but as a role model, as someone Luci could turn to without hesitation.
And as you watched them now—her running to make a play, him giving her a thumbs-up from the sideline—something inside you stirred. Luci’s adoration wasn’t just something normal; it was deep— it ran so incredibly deep that you didn’t know what you were going to do when the season ended.
Later, as the game wrapped up and the kids started to gather around for the final huddle, you leaned against the fence, your arms crossed as you watched Luci chatter excitedly with the others. Aaron was kneeling, talking to the kids about teamwork and how proud he was of all of them. Luci was practically glowing as she stood beside him, her eyes fixed on him like he was the most important person in the world.
You smiled softly, but there was a slight pang in your chest. All the parents— minus Brian of course made the tunnel for the kids, your hands reaching up and resting against Aaron’s as if they belonged there.
Once you all pulled away, Aaron gave everyone a high five and walked over to pack up the cones on the field while the parents started to leave.
Your eyes never left his frame besides to check on Luci who was playing with Jack.
You’d never been able to deny the kind of man Aaron was. He was strong, compassionate, and quietly self-assured, never forcing attention but always commanding respect.
Your gaze softened as you noticed Luci nudging Jack, her eyes wide as she whispered something to him. Aaron caught her at the corner of his eye, and his lips tugged upward into a soft, knowing smile.
You didn’t realize you’d been so obvious until you felt someone stand next to you. It was Aaron, of course.
“You know, she really looks up to you,” you said before you could stop yourself.
He glanced at you, a little surprised, then nodded. “She’s a good kid.”
“She’s crazy about you,” you added, keeping your tone light, but there was a tenderness in your voice you couldn’t hide.
Aaron’s gaze flickered to Luci, his expression softening as he watched her laugh with Jack, her whole face alive with excitement. “She’s got a lot of love to give if you let her..” he said quietly, his tone a little different than before, less professional and more personal as he glanced over at Brian who seemingly hadn’t noticed the game was over.
You could tell he meant it. His voice had a warmth to it now, a little more genuine than it had been earlier, when he was still trying to maintain that distance. The way he looked at Luci wasn’t just as a coach—it was something more.
“She loves you,” you repeated, your voice almost a whisper now.
Aaron shifted slightly, his gaze still on Luci. “She’s a special kid,” he said, his voice thick with something that sounded almost like affection.
There was a pause between you, the air thick with something unsaid. You felt the warmth of his words settle in your chest, but there was also something else—something that made your heart flutter. It was hard not to notice how much Aaron had come to mean to Luci, how much he’d become a part of her world.
For a brief moment, you allowed yourself to imagine a life where it wasn’t just Aaron coaching Luci—where maybe, just maybe, he was part of your life in a bigger way.
But just as quickly, you pushed the thought away.
Aaron looked back at you then, his eyes meeting yours in a way that made you feel like he saw more than just the surface. You swallowed, trying to keep your composure.
“I think she’s lucky to have someone like you around,” you said, your voice soft but steady, the guilt evident in your voice as you thought about every time you’d begged Brian to show her an ounce of care— Aaron had, and he was a stranger.
Aaron’s gaze lingered a moment longer before he cleared his throat, his usual stoic expression falling back into place. “I’m just doing my part,” he replied, but there was a slight edge to his tone now—something that told you he wasn’t entirely convinced by that statement.
You smiled, but this time it felt more sincere. “Well, we’re both lucky to have you around, Coach.”
Aaron didn’t say anything for a moment, but you saw a flicker of something in his eyes—something that wasn’t just about the kids, about coaching, or even the game. It was about you, too.
He’d seen you every week for the past month, 4 nights a week. You were the only parent who helped run drills when Dave wasn’t there— you cheered on every kid, not just your own and when he asked you’d bring half time snacks.
Every conversation, every glance, every time you had unintentionally made his day better with your careless flirting and witty remarks.
“Come to lunch with me— this week, there’s this place by the office I’ve been wanting to try and—” His words caught you off guard but your expression didn’t waver, in fact you smirked, holding up your left hand to flash your wedding ring.
“Well as a very smart man reminded me— I’m married…” You trailed off, your tone playful as you stared at him, dropping your hand back down at your side.
Aaron’s eyes rolled for a moment before he spoke again. “Could’ve fooled me— here I thought you were flirting with me all this time.” He grinned and something about it told you that he didn’t do that often.
“Oh I was!” You giggled, using your hand to cover your mouth as if you were a child telling a secret. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’m not very happy in my marriage..” You whispered childishly.
“So you’ll come?” He asked hopefully which made you grin and nod. “Text me?” You smirked, before calling Luci and Jack over.
“Momma can we play at Jack’s house?” Luci asked innocently, her little voice tugging at your heartstrings like it always had. “Maybe next time— Daddy probably wants to go home and—” Luci pouted and you had to try your hardest to remain in control.
She had the tendency to use her cuteness to get what she wanted from you. “Next time okay?” You smiled sadly, grabbing her hand.
She grumbled, her expression dropping slightly. “I wish Jack’s dad was my dad too.” She frowned and just like that your heart had shattered. You sent Aaron an apologetic frown and picked her up.
“We’ve gotta go honey— say bye to Jack and Coach Hotchner..” You said shakily and reluctantly she did, and the two of you walked away, leaving Aaron and Jack behind and you hoped that someday you wouldn’t have to.

i don’t hold grudges, but i only let people break my trust once and not trusting someone is a relatively similar phenomenon.
#like. do i HATE people who have done me wrong or waste my time thinking about how much they suck? no.#hate is exhausting and i have many better things to do#but do i experience anxiety due to having to work with people i don’t trust? ABSOLUTELY.#so that’s why my shitty coworker and manager being gone is such a big deal to me#nothing either of them could do would EVER make me trust them again#and my direct boss is also a part of that and i think she knows that#i have more personal affection for her as a friend#i think she’s just a bad people manager who accepted bad direction from her own boss#but also like… grow a spine and defend your autistic employee - you know??#and i will never forget that and i will never have trust with her again#i’m not MAD. i’m just disappointed and you only get to disappoint me once#after that - it’s just par for the course as far as i’m concerned#and i am getting out of this town#not a thing could make me stay#and i do suspect that i will leave before my boss does#but i hope she’s figured out by now that i would not mourn her loss either#and i will not mourn my own even a little bit!#i cannot WAIT to move on#but with my boss’s boss gone the necessary wait will be a little easier

Lucifer doesn't care how the labcoats say it works; he knows there's no such thing as a clean break from a drift the minute the plug is pulled. Instead, Michael goes from a second consciousness beside his own to being dragged out of Lucifer the further Lucifer gets from him, both of them gripping tight to the connection until it slips, until it snaps, with a violent recoil that knocks Lucifer's brain out of alignment and reminds his legs that they don't work. His next step falls too fast, too heavily, and refuses to take his weight. It's only Michael, now only a voice outside of Lucifer's head yelling his name, catching him from behind that allows Lucifer to collapse to the floor with his dignity intact.
#is this more than one sentence? yes. yes it is. because tumblr deleted this post once and pissed me off.#i had so many tags about lucifer already and boom. gone.#anyway. tfw you see your boyfriend get severely injured during a battle and this makes you panic so bad you manage to make it a few meters#which is a lot for a guy who can't actually walk.#lucifer's got a whole Situation. turns out plugging a guy's brain up to a giant robot is not without its bugs.#especially when said guy was one of the first to be stuck inside the giant robot with his brother. and testing was a lower priority due to#everyone wanting a faster solution to the Giant Fucking Monsters. so lucifer's brain got overloaded and can't send signals to his legs#anymore to move right unless he's hooked up to a mech. technically when this first happened the doctor told him 'well if you stop doing mec#shit you can walk again.' but 1) he's not doing that. and 2) that was years ago. just because that recommendation is still on a file#somewhere doesn't mean it would actually work for him. or even that it would have back then. it's still the official answer for 'fixing' hi#because that's better optics than the truth. which is that he can't walk.*#(technically. technically. if he was left disconnected from the mech for a week he could walk. it would also be exhausting. and painful.#and slow. this is not something lucifer considers to be helpful information when he moves faster and with more ease in his chair.#this is something other people like to point out about him that makes him want to start hitting them. and it's not even really true anymore#the 'a week disconnected' thing. again. was a long time ago. it would take over a month for him to stand nowadays.)#(v few people Get all of this but like. michael is one of them. he's in lucifer's head enough that it would be weirder for him not to get i#add to that him being one of the few people who has seen lucifer walk nowadays and focused more on 'hey he looks like he hates that'#than praising it. and he gets it. and is also the requisite amount of annoyed when lucifer *runs off* before michael can help him into his#chair!! not the first time this has happened and will not be the last. michael's used to catching him.)#ask#oh my god that was so much rambling. this isnt even the point of the fic btw. this is just. backstory. worldbuilding.

it was too much i had to make my own post
line cook here. ACCURATE
if you don't get the hate, here's what you don't understand.
it takes up to 2 hours to close down the kitchen.
The last 60-90 minutes before closing time you do almost no cooking because the restaurant doesn't have many people in it and you've already cooked most of their diners.
So if someone walks in during, like, the last hour, the cook is in the middle of an industrial deep clean of the kitchen.
(these numbers can vary quite a bit from place to place but i have worked several restaurants with these actual times and the concept remains the same)
Say the place closes at 10. If you wait til the restaurant is already closed to start all your cleaning duties, you'll be there until at least midnight.
More than that your boss knows that on an average night you can start your clean up as soon as the last rush ends and get out of there around 10:45, even 10:15 on a slow night if you get lucky. That means there are plenty of restaurants where if you do take until midnight the manager is going to come up to you at some point that week and ask you what went wrong that night, and you'd better have an answer.
So this example restaurant closes at 10 pm. The dinner rush ends around 8:30, and shortly after that the cook is going to start getting every single dish possible over to the dishwasher because the dishwasher always gets hit hard and late, and the machine runs for 2 full minutes and only holds so many dishes, so the way that works out is if you wait an extra 30 minutes to give the dishwasher all your stuff it can mean adding like 60 minutes to the end of his shift. And you're gonna KEEP finding shit to send to the dishpit right up until you leave probably.
all these little square and rectangle containers in this cold table have to be pulled out and changed over into new containers, replaced by new full ones, or in some cases filled from larger containers in the back, which can result in even more empty containers to send to the dishwasher.
while it's all pulled apart to do this, you have to clean up all the spilled food and sauce and juices and stuff from the joints and ledges and shelves and drip trays
Once you get your line changed over in this way, and fully stocked, anytime someone orders something that makes use of a bunch of that stuff, you have to restock and re-clean it some. It might already be covered in plastic. Some of it might already be stuck in the back to make room to take apart your cutting board counter to clean. To cook a dish isn't TOO much of a problem at this point, but you're really hoping for zero orders because you still have so much other cleaning to do.
Meanwhile the salad bar and appetizer section and server station and everybody are all doing the same thing. Even the bartenders are stocking olives and lemons and sending back whisks and stir spoons and shakers and empty 4quart storage containers that used to hold the back-up lemons and olives and things. Every section is dumping their must-be-cleaneds to the dishpit as fast as possible because early and fast is the only thing they can do to to help that dishpit not absolutely drown into overtime.
The poor dishwasher is always the last to clock out, soaking wet and exhausted.
Around this time you probably scrub the flat top, which has turned black from cooked on grease and is still about 500 degrees. Line cooks are divided in opinion on water-based or oil based cleaning methods for this, but they all involve scrubbing with (usually) a brick of pumice stone using every ounce of your strength while you try not to burn yourself
you scrub it from fully blackened to gleaming silver and now if somebody orders something that needs the flat top to cook, you can either fuck up your cleaning job or fake it in a couple frying pans and pass that tiny fuck you down to your dishwasher (who usually understands, especially if you help them take the garbage out or clean your own floor drain later)
If there's deep fried stuff on the menu then the fryers have to be cleaned out, which includes straining the oil out into enormous and super-heavy pots full of oil so hot that if you spill on yourself then it's probably a hospital visit and if you slip and fall face first into it it'll be the last thing you ever do.
Then you gotta scrub out the fryer. Like you gotta take the (hot) screen out and reach your arm down into the weird rounded pipes and curved areas (so hot, burn you if you brush against them hot) and scrub off whatever is down there
Depending on your kitchen you might have to do up to four of these. Then you'll have to pour the (dangerously hot) oil back in
oh, and if you didn't dry the pipes and get ALL the water out of the trap and tank?
water reacts with hot oil in a sort of mentos and coke way that can send a tidal wave of oil past the open flame of the pilot light ...HUGE dangerous mess and/or burn down the kitchen if the oil lights up.
Unless! If the oil has been used too hard and needs to be changed, it's time to carry those open topped super heavy pots full of will-kill-you-hot oil and dump them in the barrel outside by the dumpsters so you can put room temp fresh oil in the fryers. whew!
The clean up is not just some light wiping down that can be easily interrupted, is what i'm saying.
You might have to do some kind of walk-in duty (moving around 50lb cases of lettuce and 50lb bags of onions to get to the stacks of five gallon buckets full of salad dressings and sauces to move so you can reach the giant metal pots and bus tubs full of prep and get it all organized and make sure it's all labeled and i have to stop now i'm having flashbacks)
THE POINT IS
by 15 or however many minutes to close, the line cook is doing an intense deep clean and probably has the whole stove taken apart to detail.
For some industrial stoves this means lifting off large cast iron plates that weigh like 20 lbs each and are still quite hot. Whatever metal burners are on there, you gotta take off and clean, you can see here the lines that indicate the large thick cast iron rectangles that sit on top of the burners to allow heavy pots to rest on. Those five (each has one front burner hole and one back burner hole, see?) have to be lifted off and cleaned with soap and a wire brush usually, and then the underneath area also has to be cleaned because a lot of shit falls through the burner holes on a busy night.
if you didn't do it when you did the flat top you have to do the grease trap (which can be like a full five minutes and is always disgusting).. You gotta clean out all the little gas jets in each burner with a wire or something so the burners all flame evenly, and sometimes you have to remove some of the natural gas piping that connects the burners to access where you have to clean.
you gotta clean out the bottom of the oven and the wire racks, and, oh gods, you gotta take down the filter vents from the hood fans above the stove.
See all the lined parts along the top of the wall?
those are hood vents, and as they pull air up they also pull a lot of grease and they have to be taken down and cleaned, then you gotta climb up there and scrub where they go before you put them back...
And then there's the mopping and floor drains and...
Anyway, that's what the line cook is doing when you walk in fifteen minutes before closing and order something that needs to be cooked on that stove. They are doing an entire industrial cleaning of a professional kitchen.
In some restaurants maybe one or two of these jobs will be every other night or even only twice a week, but in many, possibly most kitchens, ALL of these things happen EVERY night. You don't want to leave any food mess that might attract insects or rodents for one thing, so a really good kitchen is as close to brand new as you can get it every night.
IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO ORDER SOMETHING ANYWAY, HERE IS WHAT TO DO
open with an apology and ask the server to go ask what the cook would prefer you to order.
Any good server will already know what the cook is hoping for and what will make their line cook go into the walk in and scream. If it's significantly less than an hour to close and they say some variant of "oh anything is fine" they are either telling the lie their boss wants them to say, or they actually do not know what their line cook wants, and you can either use human connection and a conspiratorial just-between-us tone to get them to drop the customer-is-always-right act, or get them to actually go ask the cook.
It might be as specific as "the lasagna is easiest on the kitchen" or it might be a simple guideline like "nothing that requires the flat top" or "any of the sautés are easy" but a good line cook will probably have a system for if they have to make a couple of the most popular items after they start their close, so the answer is likely to include something most people like and you should be good to order that.
but for the love of all that's holy, please only do so at great need. Leave that last 30-60 minutes to the truly desperate and the crew's duties.
#long post#sorry#i just have a lot of DO PEOPLE UNDERSTAND feelings left over from all my years in restaurants#restaurants#line cook#service industry

zayne hates the way you look in a hospital bed.
the sheets are too white, the room too sterile, and the iv in your arm makes his stomach twist in ways he won’t admit. you look smaller like this.
too still, too quiet. it doesn’t suit you.
‘you should get some rest,’ he says, his voice even, professional. detached, like a doctor should be. but you know better. you always have.
‘you’re here again,’ you murmur, tilting your head just enough to meet his eyes.
he doesn’t answer. instead, he adjusts the blanket over your shoulders, making sure it covers you properly. it’s a useless gesture because the room is warm, and you’re not shivering.
but he does it anyway.
a ghost of a smile tugs at your lips. ‘you should be more careful, doctor,’ you tease, voice quiet but laced with something familiar, something warm. ‘the others might think i’m your favorite patient.’
he should roll his eyes. scoff. say something sarcastic like he always does. but this time, he doesn’t. instead, he just shakes his head, something unreadable passing through his gaze before he looks away.
for a second, you swear he almost says something. but then he pulls back, his hand leaving your blanket, his presence retreating ever so slightly.
you let it go.
it’s late when he comes back. the overhead lights are dimmed, the quiet hum of machines the only thing filling the room. you’re half-asleep when you hear the soft click of the door, but even in the haze of exhaustion, you know it’s him. you always do.
‘you should go home, zayne,’ you mumble, voice thick with sleep. ‘get some rest.’
‘i was.’ his voice is quiet, careful. ‘didn’t feel right.’
‘you care for me too much.’
‘nonsense,’ he said instead. ‘there’s only way too much or none at all.’
you force your eyes open, blinking up at him. he’s standing at the foot of your bed, hands in his pockets, his coat slightly wrinkled like he’s been running on autopilot all day.
‘zayne—’
‘you said something earlier,’ he interrupts, and there’s something in his tone—hesitation, maybe. or something heavier. ‘about being my favorite patient.’
you let out a tired huff of laughter. ‘what, did it offend you? i can take it back.’
he exhales sharply through his nose, not quite a laugh, but not quite nothing. then, after a beat, he moves closer, just enough for his voice to drop into something barely above a whisper.
‘you’re my most important patient.’
the words settle between you, sinking into the space where exhaustion lingers, where unspoken things have always gone unsaid.
you study him, taking in the way his jaw tightens, the way his fingers flex at his sides like he’s resisting the urge to reach for you.
‘yeah?’ you murmur, softer this time.
his gaze flickers to yours, steady and certain. ‘yeah.’
you don’t say anything after that. but you don’t need to.
instead, your eyes drift to the chair beside your bed. ‘you’re staying, aren’t you?’
he doesn’t answer, but he doesn’t have to. with a quiet sigh, he lowers himself into the chair, shifting slightly to get comfortable. not that he ever will. the chair is stiff, unforgiving, and he’s been running on too little sleep for too many days.
but he doesn’t complain. he never does.
you watch him for a moment longer, the steady rise and fall of his chest, the way his eyes linger on you even as he leans back.
‘go to sleep,’ he murmurs, closing his eyes. ‘doctor’s orders.’
you want to argue, to tell him he should be the one sleeping somewhere comfortable, but the weight of exhaustion is already pulling you under. the last thing you see before you drift off is zayne, slouched in that uncomfortable chair, his breathing steady, his presence unwavering.
and for the first time in a long time, you don’t feel alone.
because you never knew it. never realized it.
but zayne became a doctor for you.
when you were little and scraped your knee, he was the one who pressed plasters to your skin, his hands careful, his touch gentle. when you sniffled from the sting, he’d ruffle your hair and say, ‘there. all better.’
when you climbed trees too high and got stuck, it was zayne who came running, scolding you under his breath as he helped you back down. and when you fell, because you always fell, he was the one who knelt beside you, wiping the dirt from your palms before you even had the chance to cry.
when you got sick, he was the one who snuck into your house with soup he swore wasn’t that bad, sitting by your bed even when you told him to go home. he would press the back of his hand against your forehead like he had seen adults do, frowning like he could will the fever away just by staying close.
when you started training to be a hunter, he was the one who patched you up after every battle, every wound, every brush with death.
he never once told you to quit, but every time he stitched a cut or wrapped a bandage around your wrist, his hands would linger, as if memorizing every scar.
and now, when the world threatens to break you, he’s still here.
still taking care of you. still choosing to stay.
you wake up hours later, the room still cloaked in soft, early-morning silence. the first thing you notice is the warmth around your wrist.
zayne.
he’s asleep in the chair, his head tilted slightly, dark circles visible beneath his eyes. his hand is wrapped around your wrist, fingers loose but still holding on, like he fell asleep taking your pulse.
like he needed proof that you were still here.
still breathing.
you shift slightly, just enough to tighten your fingers around his. he stirs for only a second but doesn’t let go.
and neither do you.

i'm sorry for scaring you
synopsis: caleb shows a new side of himself during one of your fights. it almost makes you believe he's changed.

tags: angst, suggestive (psychologically), fluff (sorta kinda), caleb kneels, caleb crawls, caleb is pathetic, caleb is overprotective and unwell pairing: farspace colonel!caleb x reader word count: 1.7k
a/n: this is angstier than i intended i wanted it to be hot, maybe it's still hot, when he tries to lock u up in his house but he has lethal booboo face ⬆️
“I didn't ask for any of this! I didn’t ask for your protection, and I sure as hell don’t want it.”
“You not wanting it doesn’t change the fact that you need it,” Caleb replied blankly.
In the four months since you’d reunited with Caleb in Skyhaven, your relationship had taken a hit. In the first few weeks, you’d barely seen each other; he’d stop by to check on you, assume you thought him the scum of the earth, and abruptly retreat back home. It wasn’t until you’d grown fed up with the awkwardness and uncertainty that you began approaching him again—asking him about his day, initiating phone calls, and even starting the rare video call, if he was lucky.
Around the last month or so, things had gotten better. During your increasingly frequent visits, you’d gone out together several times—to see the new cyberpunk action movie, to window shop in the pet store, to marvel at the Skyhaven nightscape from the safety of his personal aircraft. Just as you thought you’d both been making progress adapting to your new dynamic, a wave of highly dangerous wanderers had infiltrated the city, and Caleb had had the nerve to essentially place you on house arrest until the threat was dealt with. Fast forward to now, his composure threatening to overpower your impassioned rebuttals.
“Did you honestly think I’d let you leave right now?” he asked. “You’re here for a week. The Fleet will take the next couple of days to sort out the problem, and we can go out together when it’s done.”
“We can go out together. Right. So you can rush me back here the second someone looks at me the wrong way?”
“No one will look at you the wrong way. Not here. Not while you’re with me. But you need to understand, Pipsqueak: you came to Skyhaven for me. You’re in skyhaven for me. I won’t stand by and watch you put yourself in danger, and you won’t change my mind,” he replied, his large frame looming over you as he stepped closer.
You’d had enough. You’d spent almost an hour on the losing side of this back-and-forth, and you were too exhausted to pull your punches anymore. “My first time seeing you after the explosion,” you started, voice trembling. “Do you know how it felt? When you stepped off that plane, when you interrogated me behaving like you never have in your life—I didn’t know what to think. But when you brought me back here? Started spewing off that shit about a world where my only world is you? I was scared, Caleb. I thought I’d needed to be afraid for you, but I was afraid of you. That you’d lock me in this house forever, that I'd only see the sun when you decided it wasn’t top bright for me. I was afraid that I’d die here having grown to hate the person I’d wanted to live for, you finished, your words dripping with venom.
Seething, you spun around, ready to storm out of the kitchen and into the quiet of the guest room Caleb had remodeled for you.
You’d taken three steps toward the door when you heard something hit the ground with a heavy thud.
Body still facing the door, you stopped in your tracks. This was new. Unexpected. You’d been prepared to hear a few calls of your name, some “Wait!”s, maybe even a “Don't walk away from me.” Worst case, you’d expected him to pin you in place with his Evol, preventing your exit and prolonging your fight.
But a thud? A thud could mean many things. Enough things for you to remain frozen contemplating the possibilities before the voice in the back of your head broke through your thoughts, reminding you of the very real chance that you’d spiked Caleb's blood pressure so much that he’d fainted.
The fear that he was hurt made you finally turn around, only for Caleb to catch you off guard yet again.
Caleb the Loathsome, the overprotective, obsessive, now cold-blooded colonel of the Farspace Fleet, was on the floor before you. Kneeling.
All at once, your anger dissipated, melting into shock at the assertive man before you’s sudden display of submission.
Realizing you’d turned around, Caleb lifted his head, meeting your flustered expression with his pained one. His furrowed brows, shining eyes, and pouted lips—he looked pitiful, honestly. And as much as it tugged at your heartstrings, it awakened something dormant inside you.
It made you feel powerful. It gave you an idea.
Biting the inside of your bottom lip, you took several steps toward Caleb’s kneeling form, closing the distance you'd been so eager to put between you all of ten minutes ago. A slight gasp escaped Caleb at your movement, and he swiftly lowered his gaze back to the floor, as if worried that daring to watch your approaching form would make you retreat.
When you came to a stop, you were just in front of his knees, looking down your nose at his bowed head. For a few moments, Caleb’s heavy breaths were the only sounds between you, thickening the cold air in the room.
Then, finally—finally—you touched him, lifting his chin up before resting your palm on his cheek. At your touch, he leaned forward, nuzzling his head against your thigh.
“…You want this that bad, huh? Want me that bad?”
“More than anything,” he breathed.
You stared at him.
“Please,” he whispered, turning his head into your hand to brush his lips across your fingers.
At this, you hummed softly, running your thumb across his cheek twice before turning away from him once more. When you break contact, Caleb freezes in the midst of rubbing his face on your leg, his eyes popping open in panic. He only calms when he sees you heading for the armchair tucked into the right back corner of the room, slowly taking a seat, your legs spread.
“Relax,” you call out, settling in your chair. He didn’t move a muscle.
You decided you’d had enough of the tense silence after a few more beats. It was time to test him.
“…Come here, Caleb.”
In an instant, his head snapped up. His gaze, abruptly ending its budding relationship with the floor tiles, held yours for more than a few seconds this time, your slight smirk challenging his slight disbelief.
Caleb had all the cunning in the world. Since joining the Fleet, nothing got by him—and on the rare chance that it did, he’d chase it down and make it beg for mercy. He was a prideful man. He was a calculated man. So when you called for him in your sweet voice, slightly breathy with unadmitted nerves, he figured you out quite quickly.
You were testing him—to see if he’d walk or crawl to you—and he knew it.
And unfortunately for his dignity, any reservation he held about the latter was overshadowed by his desire for you: to be in your space, to breathe your air, to be close enough to feel you—even if he rarely did now, out of fear that his touch would repulse you.
He needed you to need him. So he crawled.
Inch by inch, Caleb crawled toward you, the only person who would ever see him reduced to this. The only person who could reduce him to this. And all the while, as the fabric of his dark pants dragged across the floor, his violet eyes never left yours. In them, you saw resignation. You saw anticipation. You saw the shattered remnants of a pride that he’d let be broken, and you saw them rebuild themselves in lust the closer he came.
A few inches away from you, Caleb stops, sitting demurely on his heels. His hands twitch in hesitation before falling into his lap. His vulnerability is palpable, and you can feel him banishing himself back to his hell of self-deprecation, the guilt-eroded space in his mind where he repeats how little he deserves you. Before he can lower his gaze again, you beckon him upwards, guiding his palms to rest on your knees. His kneeling form almost equals your seated one in height.
“I used to love watching you scare off the boys who were mean to me,” you tell him, placing your palm back on his cheek. “But as much as I like you intimidating, this little act might be my new favorite.”
His nervous breaths come to a momentary halt before he brightens slightly, chasing your touch. He nuzzles into your palm like he did your leg earlier, and you sigh.
“You scared me, Caleb,” you murmur.
“I know. I'm sorry.”
“I know you want to keep me safe, that you have kept me safe for as long as either of us can remember,” you say, continuing to stroke his head. “But I don’t want to be afraid of you, Caleb. I won't be afraid of you. So if you want to keep doing this, if you want us to move on, if you want me—it can’t happen again. Tell me it won’t happen again.”
Your movements still as you tighten your grip on his jaw, forcing him to meet your eyes. A grimace flashes across his face as he goes quiet for a moment. But you wait for him. You have to. As exhilarating as it’d been to see him crawl before you, this was the true test—if you extend your trust, will he extend his lenience? You have to believe that he will. To give him the chance to.
And as you’re wrapped up in your optimism, your fantasies that he’ll acquiesce and let your relationship go back to normal, Caleb responds.
“...I’m sorry for scaring you.”

Astrology Observations
♡ - Cozy - ♡

you'll always find your way back home♡

♡ 7° or 19° degrees on Chiron talks about a person who has a hard time when it comes to letting people out of their lives
♡ 4° 16° 28° on Moon or Chiron can indicate a nostalgic person. They are often lost with their memories in their past and attach too hard on them

BAKUGOU KATSUKI ⭑.ᐟ THE FIRST FALL OF SNOW
Pro Hero Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight in the public’s eye, is finally on his way home. The moment he clocked out, he was Bakugou Katsuki.
The apartment door swung open, and Bakugou trudged inside, every step weighed down by the exhaustion of the day. His back ached from the relentless action-packed hours at work (somehow, during the holidays, villains were at their peak action), and the chill of winter clung to his skin, even through the layers of his winter gear earlier. He’d been looking forward to collapsing onto the bed and shutting the world out for the rest of the night.
He let out a grunt of frustration, yanking his scarf off as he called out, “I’m home.”
Bakugou was greeted by your voice. Too chipper, as if you had something planned.
“Perfect timing! Go change into something warm; we’re going out!” you said, a spark of excitement lighting up your tired features. You had on your favorite scarf and coat, your cheeks flushed from the cold air that must’ve blown in while you’d been waiting for him.
Bakugou frowned, rubbing the back of his neck. “You’re kidding, right? It’s freezing, and I just got home.”
“I’m not kidding.” Your smile widened, undeterred by your husband’s gruffness. “You need to relax, and I need to check out the sale on the market. We’re going downtown, just for a little bit. Please?”
“No,” he scoffs.
“Come on, Katsuki,” you pleaded. “You’re always working, and I’ve been stuck inside all day. Just a quick trip downtown to relax. Please?” You pouted slightly as you repeated the request, though your tone remained playful, knowing it would chip away at his defenses.
“Can’t we relax here? You know, like normal people?”
“Normal is boring. We can relax after we go out and see the town. Please? I’ll make dinner when we get back!”
Dammit, you knew how to pull at his strings.
Bakugou groaned, tugging at the tight fabric of his jacket. He hated the cold, hated the thought of walking around aimlessly in weather that bit at his skin. But as he looked at you—your hopeful expression, the way your eyes sparkled with the promise of something simple yet special—he sighed, already knowing he couldn’t refuse.
Knowing he’d already lost, he crossed his arms. He’d always had a soft spot for you (you must’ve put a curse on him once he gave you his valid “I do” at the altar, he thinks), and no amount of exhaustion could override the tug in his chest when you looked at him like that.
“Fine,” he grumbled. “But you’re carrying the hot chocolate if we get any.”
Your grin was instant, and you tugged at his arm. “Deal. Now hurry up and get dressed into something warmer before I change my mind.”
---
The streets of Musutafu were already in the holiday spirit, and it was only the first of December. The glow of streetlights reflected off frosted windows, and the faint scent of roasted chestnuts wafted through the air—it was a scent to appreciate. Bakugou’s hands were stuffed deep in his pockets, his scarf pulled high over his face, as he grumbled every so often about the cold or his aching shoulders.
“This better be worth it,” he grumbled, kicking a stray piece of ice off the sidewalk.
“It is worth it,” you countered, practically skipping beside him. “You’ve been so stressed lately, and this is exactly what you need—some fresh air and a change of scenery.”
“I’d rather have fresh air from our bedroom.”
You shot him a playful glare. “You’re impossible.”
“Yeah, and you’re a pain,” he shot back, though his lips twitched upward just slightly.
It’s also a good thing that not many were wanting his autograph or a picture because Bakugou was not in the mood to entertain anyone aside from you.
You led him to a small square near the center of town, where festive decorations were strung across trees and lampposts. Children bundled up in cute, thick winter clothes ran around as their fits of giggles filled the air, and vendors sold warm snacks and drinks from cozy stalls. You tugged him toward one of the benches, your excitement bubbling over.
“Look at this place! Isn’t it beautiful?”
Bakugou looked around, taking in the bustling scene. He begrudgingly admitted to himself that it wasn’t half bad—but he’d never say it out loud. Instead, he just shrugged. “It’s alright.”
You rolled your eyes. “You’re impossible to impress.”
“Not true,” he said, smirking slightly. “You impressed me.”
“Ok, sap,” you snorted, though you were quick to hide how it made you feel all giddy. “And did you know that—”
And Bakugou could only listen to you with his brows slightly knitted to an unamused expression, though he didn’t want to burst your bubble even if he was exhausted.
Without even noticing at first, the first snowflake fell, soft and delicate, landing on your scarf. You stopped mid-sentence, glancing up as more began to drift down, tiny, icy kisses from the sky. Bakugou paused too, his eyes narrowing as a flake landed on his nose.
“It’s snowing,” you murmured, a note of wonder in your voice.
Bakugou squinted up at the sky, unimpressed. “Great. Now it’s even colder.”
You ignored him, stepping slightly into the open square, your head tilted back as you let the snowflakes land on your hair and cheeks. Your face lit up with childlike wonder, and for a moment, Bakugou was suddenly reminded how lucky he was to be married to you.
Bakugou watched you silently, his hands still stuffed in his pockets. You looked radiant, the soft glow of the snow reflecting off your skin, your cheeks flushed from the cold. Your lips parted slightly as you caught a snowflake on your tongue, and you laughed softly at the sensation.
His chest tightened, his earlier complaints fading into nothing. The aches, the cold, his uncomfortable winter clothes—none of it mattered. All he saw was you.
You turned back to him, your smile warm and teasing. “You’re just going to stand there and sulk, or are you going to enjoy this with me?”
He huffed, walking toward you. “I’m not sulking,” he muttered.
“Sure, sure.” You reached out and grabbed his hand, lacing your fingers through his. “Come on, Katsuki. Isn’t this beautiful?”
He looked at you, at the way your eyes shimmered with glee, the way you smiled despite the cold nipping at their noses. “Yeah,” he said softly, surprising even himself. He’s most likely referring to you rather than the scene before him, more likely. “It is.”
“Wait, are you actually admitting you like something?”
“So? I like you, and we’re married. It’s not that shameful to admit the obvious, dummy.” He grumbled, though his hand tightened around yours.
“Not that! I meant it’s snowing; isn’t it beautiful?”
“Could care less about shaved ice falling from the sky.”
“Boo, you’re no fun,” you stuck your tongue out at him, and Bakugou did the same, which made you laugh.
You two stood there for a while, watching the snow fall around you, the rest of the world fading into the background. For once, Bakugou wasn’t thinking about work, stress, or anything else. All he could focus on was the woman beside him and how, for the first time in a long time, everything felt just right.
And even though Bakugou still hated the cold, he found himself thinking that maybe, just maybe, winter wasn’t so bad after all—because it meant moments like this. Moments with you.
It must’ve been Christmas magic to see you during the first fall of snow, taking his breath away with how you looked, and he wouldn’t trade it for anything this damned world had to offer.

Irresponsible [Lando Norris x reader]
description: Lando has an irrational fear of a cab driver kidnapping you once- Or something like that.
Lando usually didn’t mind when you went out without him. You had your own group of friends in Monaco, and as long as your best friend, Sasha was there, Lando didn’t worry much. He really liked her because she was nice and responsible even when she drank, keeping you away from trouble.
What he did mind, however, was you taking a cab home alone. It didn’t matter how safe Monaco was or how many times you had done it before - just the thought of you, possibly even drunk, sitting in the back of a stranger’s car made his stomach twist. What if the driver wasn’t who they seemed? What if something happened, and he wasn’t there? Lando knew it was probably just in his head, but that didn’t make it any easier. It was the one thing he hated about your nights out - waiting for that text saying you were home safe, hoping that nothing had gone wrong.
At least now that Lando finally had a whole week at home, he didn’t have to worry about that, and he could just pick you up himself. Besides training, he still had tons of work to do on his laptop, so he was busy, but he was available.
He didn’t mute his phone when he went to sleep as he usually did, so you could reach him whenever you wanted. However, when you left you noticed how exhausted he looked, so you didn’t want to bother him. At 2 a.m. you were more than ready to leave, and that was when you noticed your credit card was almost empty. You had two credit cards, one to use in your day-to-day life and another one for clubbing.
You didn’t want to wake Lando, but eventually you had to. He was fast asleep when his phone rang. He picked it up half asleep when he saw your number come up. Sitting up, he wiped his eyes and yawned. “Hey babe, is everything okay?”
“Uhm, hi, sorry to wake you up,” you started.
“No, no,” he said, slowly coming to his senses. “It's okay,” he added with a yawn. “What is it, love?”
“Could you maybe send some money to my blue card?” you sighed. Lando knew exactly what you meant as he used the same method when going out. If the card got lost or stolen, it was a much better situation when it was not the majority of your money disappearing.
Lando stifled a sigh as he turned the light on. “Why, did you forget to transfer money again?” he asked while he opened the bank app on his phone. Lando was a bit annoyed at you for being careless with your stuff again, but he sent some money to you anyway.
“I’m sorry,” you replied, noticing the tone of his voice immediately.
“Don’t apologize, just try to pay attention the next time.” He suppressed another yawn. “Are you guys going to stay out?”
“No, I was just about to call a cab,” you explained.
He was silent for a minute, then you could hear the soft ruffling of the sheets as he moved. “Why didn’t you call me before? I would have come to pick you up.”
“Cause you needed rest,” you mumbled. You knew he didn’t like it when you took a cab, so you expected the question.
“Well, I'm up now, so I don't think it matters anyway,” Lando said with a hint of sarcasm. “I would have come to pick you up at any time for you, love, you know that,” he added, trying to sound sincere. He didn't want to pick a fight now that he was awake, but it was a bit of a sensitive spot for him. Lando didn't like that you would just jump into a car with a stranger. He worried about your safety more than you realised.
“I know,” you sighed.
There was a brief silence on the line. Lando knew you were being considerate by not calling him earlier, yet he couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated. He wanted to voice that but held back, knowing it would lead to a pointless argument. “Where are you, anyway?” he asked instead.
“At Aurora. We're still inside at the smoking area cause it's quiet and warm here,” you added. “Why?”
“Just wondering. Aurora is on the other side of the city, and at this time of night I'd rather not send you in a random cab,” Lando replied, his concern growing. “Are the girls with you?”
“Yes, they are. But you really don't need to come,” you pushed.
Lando knew you were trying to not bother him, but he also knew that this was pointless to argue about. Besides, he would be restless if he just stayed home now that he was up. “I'm coming,” he said with a finality in his voice.
“Baby…” you sighed.
Lando was already getting up and putting on some clothes. “Stop protesting, Y/N. Half of the cab drivers barely even speak English here,” he retorted. “You’ve been drinking, you’re wearing that small dress, and you’re- You’re not going to call a cab. Just stay inside. I’ll be there soon.”
For a moment, you didn’t know how to reply. You could hear the frustration in his voice, but it somehow warmed your heart. “I love you,” you spoke eventually.
“Love you, too. See you at the club,” he added before he ended the call.
He didn’t know how to explain what he felt. It was just that- So many things in his life could be taken away within a second. And he barely had anything stable to hold onto, considering how much he had to travel. He knew what people and social media were capable of, and he was just so afraid of you getting hurt. You’ve been dating over three years now, so his followers knew who you were, and he was also aware that people didn’t always have good intentions.
Twenty minutes later he was parked outside the club. He called you, so you quickly grabbed your belongings, hugged the girls goodbye, and then hurried to his car. You sat in and closed the door behind yourself.
Lando winced at the sound. “Hey, careful.”
He had taught you not to smack the door of his car, but apparently you were too drunk to notice or remember.
“Oh, sorry,” you bit on your lip when you realized what you had done.
You checked your phone to see the time, and that was when you saw the notification of your bank application. You frowned and checked your account. Lando sent you money despite that he decided to pick you up, but you only expected an amount that would cover a cab ride. You huffed when you saw the numbers.
“Baby, I wanted to call a cab for a ride home, not to buy the driver with the car,” you glanced at your boyfriend, who had just started the engine.
“Consider it as a precaution,” he replied, his eyes never leaving the road as he started driving. He was still a little frustrated. “Better safe than sorry. And you know I don’t like you being in cabs with strangers at night.”
“I know, but this is extensive. Did you think I’d have to pay a ransom for myself or what?” you sighed. “You know I have my own money, right? Just not on this card.”
“I know,” he said, with a hint of annoyance in his voice. “But sometimes you can be irresponsible when it comes to money, like leaving your card behind or not checking your balance,” he said, recalling past incidents.
You just hummed. That was right.
“Besides, this most likely wouldn’t be enough for a ransom,” he added.
“I was just joking,” you mumbled. He wasn’t in a funny mood tonight.
“I know,” Lando sighed. He stepped on the break at a red light and looked at you. “Y/N, I don’t even know how to approach this anymore. I’m not saying that I would pick you up because I’m trying to be nice. I’m saying it because I’d much rather pick you up by myself than wait until some creep kidnaps you. I know, you’re a strong, independent woman, but can’t you just let me have it my way for once?”
Your eyes widened slightly at his words. “No one is going to kidnap me.”
“Y/N,” he pressed. “Please. Seriously.”
You couldn’t force back a small smile. Even though he could annoy you to death by being overprotective sometimes, he was still very cute.
“Okay,” you replied, shrugging your shoulders. Meanwhile, the light has turned green again.
“Okay?” he glanced at you again quickly before looking back at the road.
“Yeah. Okay.”
His shoulders visibly relaxed and he sent you a small smile back. Oh, how you loved him.

tw: oral fixation. nipple play. breast play. poly!aespa + 5th member. sweet cozy & loving
member!giselle, who comforts you while karina’s on a schedule.
“gigi?” you at her room, pleased to find Aeri resting in bed, scrolling down her phone with a bored look.
at her humming, you felt comfortable to squeeze in beside her, propping your head under your hands to stare at your member as aeri's arms circled your waist, bringing you close.
with such a tight schedule, it was hard for the five of you to get together and hang out without chores or duties. by the time you were at the dorms, you were all too exhausted to do anything but sleep.
“'rina's out,” you murmured, pouting. karina was always working more than the rest of you. “miss her.”
campaigns, mv feats, fashion show appearances… you hated how she thought she could do everything without ever taking time for herself. and for the two of you, too. you missed her, ached for her presence. being without karina made life serve you no purpose.
giselle sighed, still not taking her eyes off her phone as her hand lifted your shirt to trace soothing circles on your back. “i know, puppy. but she'll be home soon, okay? then you can have her all you want.”
you didn't want to have karina soon. not later at night, when she'll be distraught. with the group's early schedule tomorrow, there won't be time for you to be together.
tears start to water your eyes, pout deepening as you fight not to let them roll down your cheeks.
“don't want her later.” complaining, you buried your face in one of the many pillows giselle insisted on keeping in her bed. “want her now, gigi.”
in better days, giselle would indulge your pettiness. she'd smirk, swirling her tongue around your earlobe as she asked all the things you expected karina to do to you, were the leader in the apartment and not away for the night.
but you were all exhausted, deprived of a proper break for nearly a year, now— every ounce of patience the five of you could've possibly had has vanished long ago.
you didn't care if you were being an annoying, spoiled brat. fuck everything. as the maknae, it was their official duty to coddle you.
and the fact that giselle had yet to set her phone down and pay you proper attention was starting to piss you off.
with a big sigh, giselle finally relented, huffing at your drama. “y/n. she's not here now. wait a few hours.”
her voice was strained, obviously impatient to deal with your spoiled, whiny self interrupting whatever it was that entertained her. instead of indulging you as she'd always do, giselle rolled her eyes, really, really wishing for karina's immediate return.
tears now rolled freely down your cherubic cheeks, as you bit your hand to keep from hiccuping. you couldn't help it; everything just seemed so heavy lately. the frantic routine they must sustain has drained you completely. getting out of bed every morning felt nearly impossible.
practices became hard, your movements each time sloppier on stage. being an idol wasn't as thrilling and exciting as it once was, which terrified you. music was all you got; the light in darkness. you couldn’t lose your love for it.
or else you’d be left with nothing at all. more than a decade of intense dedication for nothing.
strong arms lifted you closer, now shifting so you'd be leaning on giselle almost entirely. you knew she wouldn't mind the extra weight, her mornings spent at the gym pay off well. the japanese girl understood at last how close you were to a breakdown, pitying your erratic breaths.
kissing the top of your head affectionally, she cooed. “shh, puppy. it's overwhelming, i know. but it's going to be over soon, okay? just two more shows, then we'll have much more time for ourselves. don't cry, i promise it will get better.”
you were unable to answer, not with the lump in your throat. instead, you shook your head, hiding your face in her chest. given your current scenario, her words were hard to believe.
giselle's long, acrylic nails scratched your scalp in soothing, tranquil movements that helped ground you. when your violent crying had faded into quiet, weak whimpers, she pressed kisses to each of your cheeks, licking your tears away. on any other times it would've felt gross.
but as you trembled on the older member's bed, you felt nothing but gratitude.
“here,” she took off her hoodie, then her shirt, hissing slightly from the temperature drop as she guided your mouth to her chest, “you're too tired for this, puppy. unnie's got you.”
now less anxious, your pleased hums sent electric shocks to aeri's core, drawing a thin coat of blood on her lips as she prevented herself from moaning when your tongue reached her nipple. this wasn't about her pleasure; her puppy was needy, and she'd provide everything you needed while their leader wasn't present to step in.
keeping track of time was nearly impossible when you were suckling on a pretty girl's tits. giselle's breasts were divine: big, and inviting. your tongue circled her nipple before closing your mouth in, eager to take as much of her as you could. nothing mattered: certainly not the air lacking from your lungs or the sticky arousal on your cunt.
all that existed was giselle, her glorious body, and her soothing, loving touches. you'd beg, crying to worship every inch of her body on your knees. she'd surely like it— years of sleeping next door have taught you well.
although clouded by the warmth and care she made you feel, your mind was still troubled, a flash of incoherent, pessimistic situations.
giselle's fingers dug deeper into your hair, yanking your head back and forcing you to stare at her. with teary eyes, flushed face, and swollen lips, you looked every bit like the hopeless, pretty puppy you tried so hard not to be. giselle still remembers the day you joined them as trainees, so naive and eager to learn. you'd mirror their every move, soaking up their praises and advice as you worked yourself till late at night to make up for the years other trainees had in advantage.
staring at your big, pleading eyes, all giselle saw was this same maknae. not the cryptic, reserved idol personality you've built up for yourself. away from the public, you were their clingy, spoiled puppy, and the girls would give you everything you'd ever want.
“no teeth, puppy.” she warned, clicking her tongue as she pried your lips open. “you're thinking too much again. let go, okay? empty your mind, just for a while. i'll be here.”
you hummed, annoyed by the interruption, tauntingly running your teeth against the side of her breast. in response, aeri's hands trailed lower, closing around your neck. her message was clear.
don’t be a tease.
despite her always ruining all the fun, you obeyed, emptying your mind to focus on suckling on aeri's tits. it was easy to lose yourself to pleasure, relaxing as minutes passed by. giselle would hum eventually, still scrolling on her phone as her thumb caressed your face with a love that consumed you entirely.
just like that, you fell asleep: with your mouth still half-closed around her nipple, snoring adorably against the older member. you were so deep in dreamland that you didn't even notice the flash in your face, followed by giselle's giggles.
puppy fell asleep ˆˆ she sent your girlfriend the picture. karina answered immediately.
so cute!! i'll be home soon.
bring snacks. aeri demanded, bossy as always.
jimin only laughed, staring at the picture for another minute before being called back to her photoshoot.

PINNING DOWN THE TRUTH
summary: after a certain little incident during training, megumi starts avoiding you! you think he might be upset with you or not like you, but little do you know, it's the complete opposite. after lots of teasing and a lot of emotion, the truth finally gets pinned down. wc: 2k genre: fluff! this is so so vanilla. like SO vanilla and SO innocent. notes: oh. em. gee. EVERYONE START APPLAUDING ME I WROTE SOMETHING.

you were going to be the death of him.
every time you came into the room, he went out. every time you met his gaze, he tore it away. every time you even walked into his daydream, he shoved you out of it. why, you might ask?
because of that thing that happened last week.
gojo had assigned the two of you as sparring partners. he had grumbled something about him needed to “leave him alone,” but he was secretly happy that gojo was attempting to wingman ever since he accidentally let it slip that he had an eensy (not eensy at all) crush on you.
as you two were sparring, you got the spontaneous idea that if he couldn’t use his hands, he couldn’t do anything, so using your very quick thinking skills, you lunged for him, catching him off guard, grabbing his wrists, and toppling you both over, effectively pinning him to the ground.
megumi’s cheeks flared at just the mere recollection.
you had been so close. if he leaned up a mere few inches you would’ve been nose-to-nose. he could smell your sweet perfume, see your beautiful eyes up close for once, and he’s ashamed to admit that his eyes focused in on your plump, pink lips a couple too many times.
he hates that it happened. hates how much it’s affecting him. hates how he knows you saw how red his cheeks must’ve gotten up close.
he especially hates that he sort of kind of would really not hate it if it happened again.
he sighed, burying his fluster deep into his arms resting on his desk. this was just too much for him. he ended up dozing off, mind exhausted from thinking about this so much.
he awoke to the sound of nearby voices. right outside of his room. ugh. he closed his eyes again, hoping they would leave soon.
“FUSHIGURO!” ok. they were not leaving. a voice he identified as itadori’s rang clear as he burst into the room. “oh shit, he’s sleeping.”
yes, i’m sleeping. he thought. leave me alone.
“it’s the middle of the day! we should wake his lazy ass up.” kugisaki. ugh. he kept his eyes shut, hoping they would just decide to leave him be.
“no, we should let him sleep.” Y/N?! what were you doing in his room?! ohmygodohmygodohmygod. he could feel his cheeks getting red just at your voice.
“i think he’s getting sick or something. have you guys noticed that? he’s been kinda out-of-it and avoidant and whenever i see him, he always looks red, like he has a fever or something. we should just let him sleep.” bless you and your kind heart. you were the only considerate one in the first-years, even if it was just the four of you.
“really?” asked itadori. “he seems pretty normal to me.”
“yeah, fushiguro’s always bitching.”
“no, he’s not!” you said, immediately coming to his defense. “but maybe.. oh, i don’t know. it also feels like he might be avoiding me, so maybe im just making up stuff to make it feel better because im like, delusional.”
shit, you noticed? well, he supposed it made sense, seeing as he went from talking to you and constantly trying to absorb your presence to absolutely nothing and total avoidance. he just hoped you wouldn’t take it the wrong way. he’d go back to normal after a little bit.
“fushiguro, avoiding you? don’t be ridiculous, honey. that boy adores you. like, do you see the way his eyes turn into literal hearts whenever you enter the room?” kugisaki scoffed. “he’s probably just being weird because he’s a weirdo. i wouldn’t think about it too much.” she pressed a sweet kiss to your head. favoriting you over every other first-year was something she and megumi had in common.
megumi blushed and internally rolled his eyes, still faking sleep. of course kugisaki had to say that. though he wished she hadn’t exposed him the way that she did, he was sort of grateful that she was reassuring you that he still enjoyed your presence, as he could never say that to you at all, much less with a straight face.
“yeah! fushiguro’s so much nicer to you than us. like, if i say something stupid, he hits me and calls me stupid. but when you say the same thing, he just accepts it.” itadori chimed in. it was absolutely true, too. whenever you rambled about something random, instead of dismissing what you were saying as nonsense the way he did to itadori, he would listen intently, occasionally adding in small comments or "mhm's" to let you know he was still paying attention. he was kind of embarrassed about it, now that he thought of it. he was such a whipped loser. ughhhh.
“if you say so…” you mumbled. if megumi’s eyes had been open, he would’ve seen the bright blush on your face as you hugged kugisaki’s arm.
megumi took a minute to muster up his courage before joining the rest of the students. hiding behind a bleacher, he took some deep breaths, trying to still his racing heart. he would talk to you again. he would not blush like a loser.
"whatcha dooooing?" he was snapped out of his thoughts by panda and maki.
"just.. getting myself ready to deal with gojo-sensei," megumi replied calmly, trying to conceal both his fluster at thinking he'd been caught and the fright of them catching him off guard.
"mhm, mhm. and you're sure you're not just trying to grow a pair to talk to y/n?" maki teased.
fuck.
he groaned, running a hand through his hair. "it's... not like that. gojo-sensei and itadori are both idiots. im just mentally preparing." he muttered, trying to divert their attention.
"mhm, mhm. and all of us definitely haven't noticed the way you've been avoiding her ever since, oh i don't know, let me think," panda said, pretending to ponder for a moment, "a certain moment where she pinned you down in front of us second-years?
fuck.
he and maki exchanged teasing glances as megumi buried his head in his hands, grumbling about them being annoying.
"listen, megumi. you shouldn't wait too long to tell her. if you do, someone else might just snatch her up." she grinned, giving him a slick smile. he glared at her. "besides, something tells me she might like you too."
he mumbled something about them needing to mind their own business, but took her words into account. he knew he needed to tell you, he just didnt know how.
gradually, megumi became a bit more relaxed around you, and things returned to semi-normal. the only change being that megumi was hyper-aware of your proximity. he'd always get a little flustered when you'd get close, but he used to sort of just soak it up in bliss. now, it made him nervous. ever since the um... incident, he'd been thinking about you touching him more. a lot more.
bumping shoulders when you'd pass, a hand on his shoulder to shake him when he'd doze off during a study sesh, and one time you'd even hugged him in a moment of excitement when you finally perfected a technique you'd been working on. he wished he hadnt been so shocked and flustered, otherwise he wouldve gotten to hug you back better before you pulled away.
he got weeks and weeks of nudging and teasing from gojo, panda, maki, kugisaki, and even the dense itadori and quiet inumaki about how he had no balls and needed to confess. but he was just so worried that if he did, you might reject him, and things would never be the same. despite them reassuring him very confidently that you liked him too, he still insisted that he just wasnt ready.
you were in his dorm room, the last to leave after a group movie night they'd all (save for megumi) decidedly hosted in megumi's room. the others had already gone back to their rooms, tired due to the late hour, but you were still there, rambling about a moment you'd liked in the movement, hands flying everywhere excitedly.
"-it was so sweet! oh my god, i literally started tearing up! i was so happy they finally reunited after all that time. like, imagine how they must've been feeling! i'm so happy for them!" you squealed, bouncing up and down a bit. megumi nodded intently.
megumi wouldn't mind spending the rest of his life like this, he thought to himself. you were so cute and sweet, and your mere presence made his days. you were the sunshine to his dark clouds, dispelling the storms to make his life brighter. a bit cheesy, maybe, but in that moment, that was truly what he was thinking.
he thinks he really likes you. no, he knows he does. he likes everything about you, and maybe he should be more embarrassed about falling this hard, but honestly, when he looks at you, he feels no sense of being dramatic or embarrassing or corny, because he likes you, and would stop at nothing to protect you and care for you.
i like you. he thinks to himself. i like you. i like you. i like you. i-
"i like you."
you stop talking immediately.
shit.
he wasn't supposed to say that out loud. not yet, at least. his cheeks immediately felt hot, even up to his ears and down to his neck. his heart raced and he felt so scared he was nauseous. did you think he was weird? he didn't confess the right way. it was an accident. did you hate him? oh my god, please don't hate him.
luckily for him, he snapped out of his nervous internal breakdown for just long enough to see you looking the exact same way. all of a sudden, he remembered the way kugisaki had promised with all her heart that she knew you liked him, too. at the moment, he just thought she was being annoying, but it was now occuring to him that she might have said that because you told her that you liked him the way he liked you.
suddenly emboldened, (don't be fooled, his hands were SHAKING) he grabbed your hands that had comedically been suspended in the air ever since he cut you off mid-ramble, and pulled close to you, pinning you (not really, he just got really close to you but he was trying) to the wall, remembering the kind of effect it had on him.
sure enough, it had the exact same effect, and your already pink cheeks burst into flames. "..m-megumi?" you stammered out nervously.
"i really like you, y/n."
his heart was racing faster than it ever had before, and he'd been in more life-threatening fights with curses than he could count. time seemed to stop as he awaited your response.
"me too, megs." you grinned, flustered.
megumi could cry. he collapsed his head onto your shoulder in relief, feeling like his legs were going to give out. he pulled you flush against his body, hugging you the way he used to wish he could, inhaling your scent and just absorbing you.
after what felt like simultaneously both an eternity and not enough time at all, he pulled back to ask a gentle, "will you be my girlfriend?"
you of course said yes, throwing your arms around him again, giggling as he hugged you back.
"YES!" a voice whooped before more voices hushed it. megumi rolled his eyes, and his friends turned the corner, revealing that they had been listening the whole time.
"you dumbasses," he grumbled, collapsing his head back down on your shoulder in frusturation as you giggled and ran your hand through his hair gently.
"sorry! but in our defense, we've been waiting for this to happen for like, forever!" itadori exclaimed.
"finally grew a pair, i see." maki teased.
"i told you he liked you, y/n!" kugisaki grinned. "take good care of her, fushiguro. if you don't, i'll kill you and take her from you." she turned to glare at megumi.
megumi rolled his eyes. though he was acting all annoyed, there was nothing but pure elation in his heart now that you were finally his.

Omggg request idea thing
reader playing video games and getting all upset with the game and after rage quitting she lays next to Wanda cuddling her and then Wanda decides to make reader feel better by eating reader out till they pass tf out
You don’t gotta do this lol just had this idea for another character but couldn’t find it
- 😾

men & minors dni!
—
Wanda had never understood video games. You often teased her for being ‘old’, to which she would swat your arm and try to concentrate harder when you’d explain the game for the tenth time.
You often got game rage, mumbling and cursing when you’d lose. Wanda often chuckled in amusement, hands on your shoulders to give you a massage, as you often got tense.
“You take it too seriously, detka.” She’d say giving you kisses all over until you calmed down.
One particular day, you had been gaming for a few hours, getting increasingly annoyed when you couldn’t get past a battle. You cursed, eventually throwing your controller across the bed. “Stupid game.”
Wanda was working on her laptop next to you, having tuned out your mumbles a long while ago. She looked up, lowering her glasses slightly. “Did you lose?”
You sighed, “Yes, many times. I hate this game.”
“And yet you keep playing it.” Wanda smiled, closing her laptop and sliding her glasses off, placing them on the side.
You cuddled up next to her, arms wrapped around her body. “It’s not my fault, I can’t just give up on the game! The control settings are so stupid! It’s bu—“
Your words came to a halt when you realised Wanda had started pulling down your pants.
“Go on, sweetheart, tell me all about the controls.”
You struggled to pull yourself together when you felt Wanda’s hands sliding up your thighs and removing any other clothing below your waist.
As you attempted to explain, your breathing quickened, gasping sharply when you felt her warm mouth against your pussy. Her nails dug into your sides, letting you know that she wanted you to continue talking.
“Uh.. the uhm.. thing..” You stammered, hips bucking as she began the act of eating you out.
It only took a few minutes until you were on the edge. You were a moaning mess, back arching as her tongue worked wonders.
“Fuck! Wanda—“
When you came, she didn’t stop, bringing you to orgasm over and over until you were trembling with overstimulation and exhaustion. Wanda finally let out a satisfied hum, crawling back up next to you. Her cheeks were flushed, eyes blown wide.
“You don’t curse that loud when you’re gaming.” Wanda said smugly.
You just managed a tired noise, eyes closing, arms wrapping around her, managing to fall asleep before her next sentence.
“Maybe I should mess up the game settings more often.”

As a slightly nerdy gamer, this made me very happy :,)

Morning Sickness
Pairing: Quinn Hughes x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Mentions of sex in the past, pregnancy, etc.
Summary: Quinn is getting increasingly worried about you as you're sick every morning and every evening, you're adamant that you're fine. Turns out you're right in a way.
Notes: Thanks to the person who sent this idea in :)
Totally happy to take requests/ideas/prompts at the moment in my ask box :)
Writing Masterlist
It starts around a month after your honeymoon. Every single morning Quinn wakes to the sound of you throwing up and every single night he holds your hair back as you're sick over the toilet.
You pass it off as a bad stomach bug or anxiety, something different every time but Quinn doesn't believe you nor does he like what's happening. He's had many health scares with you; the chest infection that led to you being hospitalised after you nearly passed out at work being a prime example. As a result, he knows better than to assume that when you say you're fine, you're actually fine. Instead he sits with a heavy buzz of anxiety in his chest, a fear that something is seriously wrong but not knowing what and not knowing how best to convince you to get a check up and see the doctor about it. You’re stubborn to a fault.
It's another one of those evenings where he's happily curled around in bed, blankets tucked in around both of you. You're in his arms, back to his chest, legs twisted together so that any movement jars the other, but you're so used to it at this point that sleeping apart is more difficult and less restful than navigating the tangled mass of limbs that the two of you become each night.
When you try to slip out of his arms he's awake like a shot, blinking through bleary eyes while you push his arms off you so that you can get up. Quinn lets you go, an instant release but he's quick to follow, footsteps padding on the carpet after you towards the bright light of the bathroom. Never once considering rolling over and going back to sleep.
"You okay, baby?" You're leaning over the sink, taking deep breaths, cheeks puffing out as you try your very best to not be sick again, nausea roiling through you. You’re so fed up of being sick, it’s become a routine that’s led to you being careful about what foods you eat in the morning and evening, learning what is the worst to throw up and what’s the least offensive thing to throw up.
All you can do is shake your head frantically before you're rushing to the toilet, knees hitting the floor with a loud thud as you lean over the toilet bowl to be sick. Quinn winces at the sound of your knees impacting tile and he's beside you in an instant, hands reaching for your hair to pull it back and out of your face so you don't have to worry about throwing up in your own hair.
"Oh, baby...just let it out..." A warm, free hand landing on your back, rubbing soothing circles as he feels the way your body jerks with each bout of sickness, your muscles contracting and relaxing each time.
You’re crying, he can hear it, the way you whimper and whine because this is the worst and you’re fed up with being so violently sick…It only increases his worry because this has been going on for too long and it just doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
He stays beside you, holding your hair and rubbing your back until you’re no longer vomiting. When you stop, cheek resting against the toilet seat in exhaustion he’s up and reaching for a glass to fill with water for you.
“Here, baby, have some water…” You take a mouthful only to spit it out in the toilet in an attempt to get the taste of vomit from your mouth, before downing the whole glass. It doesn’t really help much.
“I hate this…” You groan out, feeling silly because it’s not even like you feel ill most of the time, you just keep getting these random bouts of sickness in the mornings and evenings. Quinn shouldn’t be as worried as you know he is…it’s probably all in your head, maybe you’ve created a Pavolvian response to the morning and night time where your body expects to be sick, so you are?
“I know, baby…” Quinn runs a hand over your hair, pushing a few strands out of your face and behind your ear, he’s gentle about it, long fingers gingerly caressing your skin like he’s worried you’ll break, “You need to visit a doctor, baby.”
“It’s probably nothing, Quinn…I’ve just eaten something or have some sort of bug or something…” You don’t want to go to the doctors, you’re certain this will blow over soon, that it’s nothing serious and you hate the idea of taking more time off for it even as your husband looks at you like you might be the most stubborn human being on earth.
“For weeks?”
“Quinn…” You sigh out his name because you don’t want to argue, because you’re tired. All you want is to go back to bed, curl up in his arms and get what little sleep you can before you have to go to work in the morning.
He must see how tired you are because whatever fight he had seems to leave his body, shoulders slumping, head nodding to himself like he’s made a decision in his mind to put this down for the moment even if he wants to keep going, repeat himself until you give in.
“Okay…okay, let’s get you to bed at least…” He gives up arguing because you’re so tired and have to be up at 6am for work. It’s bad enough you're not feeling well, let alone that you have to still teach like this, adding exhaustion to the mix is just a bad idea. He’ll keep pushing until you go to the doctors, but right now? Right now he can see you're tired and sleep is probably better for you than arguing at 1am.
Quinn helps you to your feet, your hands resting in his much larger ones while he pulls you up. He keeps both hands on your hips the whole time as the two of you waddle your way back to bed, there’s part of him that worries you might fall or faint on the way back to bed, hands firmly gripping you just in case.
He curls around you once you're both back under the covers, almost protective like he’s trying to shield you from some unseen threat and you nestle back into him, resting your head on the arm underneath you.
The early morning throw up session had you completely wiped hours later, it really shouldn’t have been a surprise that you felt dizzy as the day went on. Even more so because food was just not enticing you and you had skipped lunch when your sandwich made you feel queasy just looking at it. Each lesson felt harder and harder to teach and your last lesson of the day had your head reeling. It really shouldn’t have come as a surprise with how dizzy you felt, how lightheaded you were, that you fainted completely in front of your students. Thankfully, you had felt it coming on, having lowered yourself to the ground mere seconds before it happened.
To give them their dues, your students who could have used that as an opportunity to cause a mess, do whatever they wanted and generally cause chaos, actually tried to help. They were so concerned for you that they got another member of staff to come help, David, your favourite trouble making hockey fan, put his rolled up Canucks hoodie underneath your head and Stacy checked you were still breathing. The fainting spell didn’t last long, within a minute or so you were back to consciousness and trying to sit up, staff and students trying to force you to lay back down.
It’s Laura, the English teacher next door, who grabs your phone and calls your emergency contact, Quinn…even as you protest and tell her not to bother him, that you’re fine. All your protests go ignored by the forty year old, who had become something of a mentor and parental figure during your time at the school.
“Hi Quinn, sorry, it’s Laura from Y/N’s school?” You can’t quite tell what Quinn says on the other line, but you’re sure it’s along the lines of ‘what’s wrong?’ in a panicked tone because no one ever used your phone. You hate worrying him, he has so much on his shoulders already, so much weight there from the team, the season, his brothers…
“She’s fainted, do you think you could come get her? It’s the end of the school day anyway but I don’t think she should be driving home…thanks, Quinn.”
You groan at her, tempted to tell her off for calling him against your wishes but you know she means well…you also know there’s absolutely no chance you’re getting away with avoiding the doctors now. In fact you wouldn’t be surprised if he drove you straight to the doctor's office after coming to get you…still, maybe you should see a doctor, what with throwing up all the time…and now fainting?
Laura won’t even let you get up from your spot on the floor, packing your things away for you, getting your students to chill for the last 10 minutes of the day and waiting until Quinn arrives. You know she’s worried you’ll faint again, but it feels ridiculous, sitting on a cold, dirty classroom floor waiting for your husband to come get you.
“Hey, baby…” The way he stands in the doorway to your classroom when he finally arrives makes you want to cry. It’s like he’s scared you’re going to faint again, a sense of hesitancy and caution in his body language that you hate because Quinn is never like that around you.
“Please don’t…don’t be scared of me, right now…” You feel like crying, wetness starting to fill your eyes and your voice coming out choked. You’re not even sure why you’re so emotional about him looking like that when Quinn’s always worried about you, it’s not a new development. He cares so he worries.
“Hey, hey, I’m not scared of you…I’m worried, baby.” He’s crossing the space between you as quickly as possible, crouching down next to you with care, hands reaching for your face gently to rub his fingers across your cheeks to try and calm you down.
“I’m sorry…I don’t mean to be a bother…” Your eyes are so watery that Quinn’s face is a blurry mess, but even then you wouldn’t be able to mistake the serious set of his brow, the way his jaw clenches, how he always takes your concerns and worries seriously.
“Sweet girl, hey…you’re not a bother. You’re never a chore, okay? But I'm going to need you to accept that we need to go to the doctor's now, okay? I’ve already phoned them, they can see us in forty minutes.” You can’t really deny him, he’s been so patient with you, worried, but not pushing you to go to the doctors too much and you know he’s right…something’s not normal right now and you need to get checked out.
“Okay…” The smile he gives you is radiant, relief filled and bright like your answer is enough to make his day. It makes it worth it.
“Atta girl, right, let’s get you up off this floor, okay?”
You nod at him, reaching for his outstretched hands and letting him grip yours tightly, your wedding rings gleaming and new under the fluorescence of the classroom lights. As Quinn stands he pulls you with him, helping you to your feet and holding you steady when you get a bit of a headrush from the sudden upright position.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, i’m good,” He doesn’t quite look like he believes you, “I promise, i’ll let you know if i’m not.”
He’s got an eye on you the entire way to his car, always watching in case you suddenly faint or trip or take a dive to the ground. You don’t, your dizzy spell has passed and now you just feel emotional and embarrassed about the whole thing.
As is routine by now Quinn opens the car door for you and buckles your seatbelt, making sure it rests comfortably against you and isn’t digging into you at all. He goes a step further than normal though, reaching into the backseat to grab a blanket he keeps there for when you get cold, laying it over your lap and tucking it under your thighs like he’s worried you’ll get cold on the drive to the doctors.
Quinn leans forward into the car, pressing a kiss to your forehead gently causing you to close your eyes, letting out a happy sigh. He lingers slightly, hand smoothing down some of your fly away hairs before he shuts the passenger side door and gets into the driver's seat.
There’s a heavy silence that settles over the two of you while Quinn starts the drive to the doctor’s office. It’s a silence that screams that Quinn has things he wants to say, words he’s holding inside him right now and you wait patiently for him to break.
It doesn’t take long, a few minutes pass before he’s watching you from the corner of his eye, “You need to start trusting me to handle knowing when something is wrong…” He sighs out at you, and you try not to cut him off, biting on your lip to force yourself to listen until he’s said what he needs to say. “I know you’re scared of being a burden and putting more stress on me, but, baby…I’m your husband. I need to know. I want to know. My job is to support you. I can’t do that if you’re not letting me in…” He reaches a hand across to squeeze your leg, an attempt to reassure you that he’s not mad, but that he wants you to trust him more and you get it…you do. You’ve been so reluctant to put any more stress on him, but here’s Quinn demanding that you do, telling you he wants to know when things aren’t quite right.
“I just…you have all this pressure on you and I don’t want to add to that.”
“Baby, the only stress you’re giving me is when you don’t let me help you…I need you to promise me you’re going to start relying on me more, please?” He can’t take it anymore. The way you try to hide how you’re doing, try to take all that onto yourself so that he doesn't get any of the pressure. You’re the only pressure he wants, fuck hockey, fuck the season, but he needs to know what’s wrong with you so he can fix it, so he can help you.
You reach for his hand on your leg, twisting your fingers in his and holding his hand tight, watching him glance at you out of the corner of his eye, focusing on the road for the most part.
“I promise.”
Quinn’s shoulders drop in relief, his need to support and protect you, to look after you already feeling better now that you’ve promised you’ll actually communicate with him properly. He loves you, but your fear of being a burden is his least favourite thing about you. He hates that people have made you feel like you have to minimise yourself, your problems. Hates that you’ve been trained to be so hyper independent and self reliant.
“Have you taken a pregnancy test?”
You blink at the doctor like she’s insane because the thought hadn’t even crossed your mind that that was a possibility, that maybe you were pregnant.
“Uh, no…”
“Have you been using protection? Is it possible you’re pregnant?” You try to think back to your last period, late, try to think back to the last time Quinn and yourself had unprotected sex…your honeymoon. So over the moon, so giddy the two of you hadn’t really thought about it, forgoing the usual precautions because you were married now so it didn’t seem like such a big deal.
You look at Quinn, the two of you sharing a look that says you’re both thinking back to your honeymoon, the two weeks of being absolutely feral for each other that you really didn’t think much about the consequences…well, you did, in a sense. Quinn had had a great time considering what you’d look like pregnant with his child, dirty talk filled with comments about getting you pregnant, but it had all been fantasies, silly in the moment dirty talk, neither of you had really considered (rather stupidly perhaps) that it might become a reality. You hadn’t thought…normally it wasn’t that easy for people and you’d always had concerns about fertility in your family in the past so why would it be that easy for you?
“It’s…it’s possible.”
“Okay, I want you to go take this test and come back when you’re done. I think you might just be experiencing some really bad first trimester morning sickness.” You take the test offered to you, the little pee cup and pipette too, glad that she wasn’t expecting you to pee directly onto the stick…
“Do you want me to wait outside the door?” Quinn asks as you hesitantly get up, not really wanting to go alone, as silly as it was because all you were about to do was pee into a little cup and put some drops onto a pregnancy test, it wasn’t like you were going to do anything crazy. But, you’d never had to take a pregnancy test before, you’d never had to deal with the reality that you might be pregnant and even if it's with your literal husband it’s still kind of scary...
“Yes, please…” He’s reaching for your hand without any hesitation, guiding you out of the examination room and towards the toilets.
You hesitate before entering, scared to find out the answer, unsure which you want to be true; that you’re pregnant or that there’s something else causing you to be sick and faint. You want kids, both of you have discussed it time and time again, but you always thought it would be planned, that the two of you would be actively trying when you got pregnant.
“It’ll be okay, y’know? No matter what. If you’re not pregnant we’ll figure out what’s wrong and if you are? That’s a good thing, we wanted kids, baby.” Quinn can see you’re scared, the way you grip the test tighter, how you seem to stop breathing as you stare at the bathroom door. He’s trying to not get his hopes up, to temper some of the excitement he can feel because he really…fuck, he really hopes you’re pregnant, he’s so ready to be a dad, and it would be an added bonus to know you weren’t seriously ill, just dealing with the first trimester.
“Yeah, just…wasn’t expecting it to potentially be this soon.”
“I know, baby, but it’ll be okay and mom’ll be over the moon.” You smile at the mention of Ellen, how excited she’ll be…heck Jack and Luke would be ecstatic to be uncles, suddenly things didn’t seem quite so scary when you considered the people around you, how supportive they would be.
“Yeah, she’ll probably scream down the phone…” If you’re pregnant goes unsaid but it’s there, the reality that maybe you’re both starting to get your hopes up for something that isn’t going to happen.
“Okay…I can do this.”
“You’ve got this, baby…it’ll be okay,” He smiles at you one last time before you disappear into the bathroom.
Your hands shake the entire time you’re in there, completing the test and putting it on the side to wait. You pacing a hole into the floor, back and forth, back and forth as the time ticks down on your phone. In that time you start to get excited, nervous, but excited. The initial shock of potentially being pregnant disappearing in favour of thoughts about what it would be like to finally have your first child with Quinn…how he’d teach them to skate, how Luke and Jack would play with them at the lake house in the summer, how Ellen and Jim would be devoted grandparents, how you’d read them books every night and make your own Christmas traditions… Your nerves now centred on that possibility that you weren’t pregnant, that your hopes might be crushed.
You couldn’t bring yourself to look when the time was up, reaching for the door handle to Quinn pacing outside the door. His head shoots up the moment you open it.
“So?” Quinn looks so expectant, lips bitten and red from all his worrying, waiting for an answer.
“I…I can’t look, can you check it for me?”
“Uh, yeah, course, baby.” You can tell he’s nervous too, but he steps inside the bathroom, locking it behind the two of you for privacy. You point to where the little, but no less life altering, test rests by the sink.
You watch him walk over, watch the tension in his shoulders, how he looks at the little test, seems to read the marks, and then again, and again like he’s struggling to process it. You know the answer the moment his shoulders relax, the moment he turns to you with tears in his eyes and a wide smile, so wide across his face. He’s practically grinning, vibrant in the way he is after a won game or how he was at your wedding. The sort of vibrant that changes Quinn, his usually understated calmness wiped out in favour of pure unfiltered joy.
“We’re…we’re having a baby…” Saying it feels unreal at first, that those two little lines can mean so much, that right now, in your tummy is your baby. The perfect mix of the two of you slowly growing into someone amazing, someone he’s so excited to meet.
“Yeah?” You can feel your own excitement starting, hearing it is making it real, so fucking real.
“Yeah, baby!” You’re crying, he’s crying, it’s a mess when you come together in a hug, his arms wrapping tightly around you and lifting you off the floor to spin you around. You’re both crying into each other when his mouth slants over yours for a kiss, one of his hands cupping the back of your head, the other resting gently over your throat.
It’s a kiss that feels monumental, deep and filled with love, so much love that the taste of the salt from your tears does nothing to deter either of you as you cling to each other. The scratch of Quinn’s beard, the silky smoothness of his hair in your fingers, the way you cling to each other, you’ve not felt that happy since your wedding day, since you both finally said I do. It feels like the world has shifted on its axis in the most spectacular of ways and all that worry, all that fear is gone, just like that.
He’s so fucking relieved, that’s part of it. God, is he excited that you’re pregnant, that he’s going to be a dad, but part of the excitement is relief, that you’re okay, that you’re not seriously ill. You’re just pregnant, just dealing with morning sickness and all the changes associated with growing a baby.
When you pull apart neither of you go very far, foreheads pressed together, noses nuzzling against each other. His hands still cradle you close to him, his breath warm against your lips.
“We’re going to be parents…you’re going to be a mom…” There’s something about him saying it that makes it feel more real because it feels almost out of body of an experience, to find out you're pregnant when you had no plans to be.
“Yeah…you’re going to be a dad…”
“Fuck, I love you…” Quinn kisses you again, soft but lingering as a hand comes down to rest against your belly, no sign yet of the bundle of cells that’s growing into a baby, “and I love this little bean too,”
“I love you too, you’re going to be so great, they’re going to love you.”
“They’re going to love us.”
