I'm in A Mood™ (stressed) so im going back to my roots of melting two character together into one person. So bruce wayne!danny fenton. Danny Fenton who, for eight years, grew up in a beautiful gothic manor with his mom and dad under the name "Bruce Wayne". Playing piano with his mother, running around the manor with his father.

Then when he's eight it's ripped away from him. There's blood on his hands and pearls pooling at his feet, and both his parents are dead in front of him.

And he gets shipped off to distant relatives "the Fentons" shortly after, Alfred close on his heels because someone needs to take care of him, someone that knows him. Bruce goes to the Fentons for the safety of anonymity. Gotham's press wants to sink its teeth into him.

Danny misses his city even if it took everything from him. There are shadows in his eyes and he's pale as a sheet even beside his distant cousins, and they change his name to "Danny Fenton' because nobody should know that their newest child was illustrious orphan Bruce Wayne.

They call him Bruce behind closed doors. Danny prefers it that way, he clings onto the name -- the one his parents gave him -- like a lifeline. He makes friends with Sam and Tucker. Tucker takes one look at the willowy, morbid little boy standing in the corner like a shade, ghosts in his eyes, and drags him out into the sunlight, and takes him over to Sam.

When Danny is twelve, he's still not over it -- and he's a little obsessed with the Fentons' research, with the morbid. He has books upon books on death, murder, detective work. Anything he can get his hands on. And stars. He loves stars.

Alfred owns the apartment next to them and comes over regularly. Danny clings to him.

When Danny is twelve, he's still quiet, meek, a shy little thing prone to being bullied. Freaky little Fenton with the night in his eyes and too-cold skin even before he put one foot in the grave. in a sleepover in his room with Sam and Tucker, he tells them the truth. They're his friends, he trusts them.

"My name is Bruce." he murmurs, voice quiet as the breeze, always quiet. he's staring at his star-covered sheets.

"Like Bruce Wayne?" Tucker asks, a joking tone in his voice.

Danny smiles a little, lamb-like with insecurity. "I am Bruce Wayne." And he takes them down to the lab, disrupting Maddie and Jack, to prove it. Sam tells them of her own wealth then shortly after. They start calling Danny "Bruce" in private too -- its trust. Thats what it is. It's trust.

Sam goes to media functions and comes back with aching feet and complaints on her tongue -- and Danny soaks it up all like a sponge, splayed across a beanbag chair with Tucker in her room. He's not envious of her, he used to go to events with his parents and they kept him safe from the ugly of Gotham's Elite. For the most part. He's had comments made at him, he doesn't miss them.

Alfred returns to the manor semi-regularly, Danny goes with him. he wanders the hallways and helps Alfred clean, the last thing either of them want is for their home to fall into disrepair. He brings Jazz with him next time, then Tucker, then Sam. They all help him clean, and he shows them his room. The one across from his parents', it feels strange.

When Danny dies when he's fourteen, the first adult he tells is Alfred. He and Jazz go over to his house more often than they stay in the Fentonworks building. At least at Alfred's, the food doesn't come to life. Alfred sits at the kitchen table and weeps when Danny tells him, Jazz is upstairs, and its just the two of them.

Danny's ghost form wears pearls around his wrist and the gloves look stained with some kind of black substance. He looks like a child who died in a lab accident, but he also looks like a child who has shadows dripping off his shoulders, curling at his feet, hanging from his eyes.

when they go to the manor, alfred helps danny make a pile of stones between Martha and Thomas' graves, nobody but the two of them (and sam and tucker) will know what it means. (not even bruce's children later down the line, not for a long, long time)

danny dives into ghost fighting on shaky feet and not half as witty as he once was in one world. he's skittish, skittering between blasts from shadow to shadow and clumsily making his way through each battle. but helping people lights a fire in him. he still has shadows dripping off his feet but there's a purpose in his eyes.

and god help him, he's going to help people.

A girl who stands out compared to the rest of the students. She plays the part of a childish, heedless airhead. However, there are moments of them showing her true scope of power and intelligence, catching others off guard.

Jovie came to NRC as a national student with the goal of gaining new experiences and knowledge by enrolling in a school vastly different from what she knows. After numerous attempts to convince her mother to study abroad, she eventually gave in and allowed her to go to the school she was more familiar with: Night Raven College. Jovie was never properly put in a dorm from the dark mirror but was eventually placed in Octavinelle before moving to Ramshackle after book 3.

They focus way more on the practical side of magic and traditional witchcraft (note: "witch" is gender-neutral, there are plenty of male/masc witches in her homeland, and there is a lack of gender hierarchy in their culture.)

🎀 Jovie was the youngest (the only minor) in her team, making her an exceptional witch but troublesome to work with.

🎀 Has been taking singing lessons from a young age, mainly to help her control her Signature Spell. Although she has developed a genuine love for singing and song-making.

🎀 In her town Jovie had a drastically different sleeping schedule, going to sleep earlier in the morning and waking up in the evening (this is because they practice most of their magic during the night) so the transition from that to waking up early in the morning was a struggle.

🎀 Owns a trusty book given to her by her mother, which has been in their family's possession for generations. She got it for help when they moved to Night Raven College. They're bad at memorising, so she makes sure they always carry it with her.

🎀 She used to help with looking after the children in the town, so they have decent experience with babysitting.

🎀 Has a soft spot for the Ramshackle Prefect, regardless of their dynamic/universe. Even bigger soft spot for Grim because he reminds them of her cat.

🎀 Far stronger than what they look. Once they provoked Flody and wrestled with him (ended in a tie). Similarly, they fight like a beast if angered, despite coming off as charming and ditzy most of the time (classmates swear they've heard her hiss before).

Pop Music Club (Cater/Kalim/Lilia): Her club members are the ones she considers her first genuine friends in NRC. Originally joined so she could work on her singing, the 4 quickly hit it off with their band dynamic, particularly her and Lilia for their love for Metal. Jovie is the main songwriter and duets with Cater.

Diasomnia: Unlike other groups of humans, Witches historically have had a good relationship with the Fae (helping them fight against the Silver Owl), Jovie's family is specifically well known in the Briar Valley's history. Upon finding out she's an Espellika, Malleus instructed Silver and Sebek to treat her with respect (especially after Sebek treated her like how he treats other humans). Lilia was acquainted with her great-great stm-stm grandparents.

Riddle: An overly strict guy who follows every rule and a girl who couldn't care less about authority...not exactly a match made in heaven. They tend to bicker a lot, and Jovie has gotten the collar from him on a few occasions. As Jovie got used to the new environment and learned she has to follow the rules sometimes, their relationship improved and became one of mutual respect (they still argue).

Vil: An unexpected friendship, but Jovie quickly started seeing Vil as an old brother figure. They have an interest in fashion and clothing, so she often went to him for advice/tips/etc. They eventually grow closer, and she seeks advice often from him.

Staff members: Most of the staff tends to have frustrations with Jovie due to her not being willing to listen to authority. Although, Vargas seemed to like her free spirit (and the fact she's an expert with the broom). Crewel and Trein recognise her talents but wish she would stop being so troublesome in class. In contrast, she and Sam hit it off pretty quickly with both having interests in "darker" forms of magic. He sometimes even hires her to perform readings for the students in his shop. On the other hand, Crowley tries his best to not commit violence against a student (jk). He's acquainted with her mother, and whenever something bad happens involving Jovie, he has to notify her mother which...often results in his getting an earful.

♡ Azul: I have another post that goes in-depth about her relationship with Azul (here). But to keep it simple, childhood friends who got reunited once they enrolled into NRC and are trying to manage their new relationship after the amount of changes they both had through their years apart.

Ramshackle Members (Rollo/Fellow/Giddle/Prefect/Grim): Jovie considers Ramshackle her "coven" (despite the one she supposedly is a part of back home) and is protective of it. She makes sure Giddle is taken care of, Fellow is catching up with his education, Rollo is adapting to the new environment etc. They are especially close to the Prefect and Grim, as they have been together in the same dorm post-book 3 (Jovie even joins the Prefect in book 6 to rescue Grim). Ramshackle helped Jovie realise that power without companionship is ultimately pointless.

☆ Wanted her design to give more witchy vibes, so I gave her a dress that was inspired by the ones the Sanderson sisters wore (like...a modern version of them)

☆ Stockings and boots similar to the ones Winifred Sanderson wears. Also wears heels to feel less short LMAO.

☆ A mole on the left side of her mouth, it references the mole Sarah Sanderson has (she also jokes about matching with Azul).

☆ Her bob haircut was inspired by how I used to make my hair a few years ago. She also paints her own nails.

☆ Fishnets, a small reference to the ones the Sister wore, but also because I find them cool.

☆ The bow she wears is enchanted and can transform into a hat and cape (for flying), a gift from her father. Not inspired by anything, I just like the idea of her having a shape-shifting bow (and I just like bows).

☆ The ✨ feeling ✨ is just when butterflies hit her stomach (we blame Azul for that).

☆ Her name "Jovelina" (jove-leen-a) is (I think) made up, I modelled it after "Jovie". "Enspell" means to cast a spell, I just added the Greek suffix "-ika" at the end.

☆ Fun fact: Due to being my ex-persona (made her an oc after I realised I'm transmasc) she and I share the same birthday and height. That's also why we share some similar traits in personality (cute aggression say hello).

Author's note: Something possessed me and forced me to make this post in a day while sick hi hey hello. Finally introducing my problem child to yall isn't she awful/j (I love my daughter I swear). Also please forgive any misspellings or awkward wording I'm severely illiterate/j (dyslexic).

“smoke” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 450 words

Regulus is being assaulted by memories of last summer as they sit around the bonfire. Everything is bringing him back to this exact spot exactly a year ago—the smell of the fire, the salt in the air, the sound of the waves that are being drowned out by the sound of the most beautiful laugh.  

Regulus looks across the bonfire and instantly locks eyes with James and more memories crash over him like those waves. The feeling of his hands, his arms, his lips, his body. The sound of his voice, his whispers, his whimpers, his moans.

Regulus has to hold back his own whimper at the memories. The smoke from the fire is stinging his eyes but he can’t tear them away from James. James is looking back just as intensely with a heat that’s not coming from the fire. They gaze at each other for several long moments and then—just like last year—James nods to the empty spot beside him. And just like last year, Regulus is powerless to refuse.  

Regulus sits down beside James and James immediately threads their fingers together in the space between them. “I missed you.” He whispers softly in Regulus’ ear.

Regulus can see their friends glancing at them—trying, and failing, to be subtle—but Regulus couldn’t care less. He turns to look at James for a moment before turning back to the fire.

“I missed you, too.” He whispers just loud enough for James to hear.

They sit in comfortable silence watching the fire. “I don’t think I can do this again, Regulus.” James says after a moment—casually, like it means nothing. Regulus quickly looks at him again and tries to pull his hand away. James tightens his grip and pulls Regulus closer. “I can’t go a year without seeing you.” James’ voice is dripping with emotions.

Regulus looks back at the fire. “That’s your fault, not mine.” He says with more bitterness than he intended.

“I know.” James says then gets quiet for a moment. “I’m moving back to London.” He tells him—again, so casually like he’s not making Regulus’ head spin.

Regulus snaps his entire body to fully look at James. “What?”

“I’m coming home.” James whispers and Regulus feels a lump forming in his throat. “And I can’t go a year without seeing you, love.” James stares at him imploringly with a small, hopeful smile.     

Regulus stares at him for a moment longer before he clears his throat and turns back to the fire. “Well, we might have to do something about that then.” He tries to sound as casual as James.   

“We just might.” Regulus can hear the smile in his voice as he leans closer to James’ side.

“Um… dad?”

Regulus looked up from his paper to see a very nervous looking Harry fidgeting with his pajama sleeves, looking down at his slippers. He glanced over to James who was magically washing up their breakfast dishes.

“Which one of us are you talking to there, Haz?”

“Both. Or, uh, either, I guess…” Harry mumbled, still not meeting his eye.

Regulus was struck with how much the boy had grown over the past year. He would be heading back to Hogwarts in a few days, the Christmas break was rapidly coming to an end, and Regulus could hardly believe how fast the time had flown. He was dreading Harry’s upcoming departure, if he was being honest with himself, he loved having him home so much.

He would be fifteen before they both knew it.

James set the last of the plates back in the cupboard and came to sit beside Regulus, both looking at Harry with curiosity, wondering what it is that has him so nervous.

“We’re all ears, hamster,” James said, warmly.

“I think…” Harry started but trailed off quickly, his cheeks burning red and the two men exchanged another glance with each other, anxiety spiking.

“IthinkIlikeaboy,” Harry blurted out, so quickly, that it took a second for the actual words to register in Regulus’ brain.

“You think you like a boy?” James clarified, a smirk appearing on his handsome face.

“Yes.”

“Which boy?” Regulus asked, “Ron?”

“Merlin no! I mean, yes, obviously I like Ron, but not like that!” The shock of the question had, finally, made Harry raise his head to look at his dads in disbelief.

“Dean? Neville? Seamus?” James started listing off names, face twisted in thought and Regulus laughed. It was just like James to immediately name every single boy he could think of until he hit the right one.

“No! It’s none of them! It doesn’t matter who it is, I just wanted you to know,” Harry said exasperatedly, face still a deep shade of crimson.

“Thank you for telling us, mon cheri, we love you and we will be here if you have any questions, at any time,” Regulus said, pointedly looking at James.

“Cedric Diggory!” James yelled, triumphantly, “I knew he was distracting you during that Quidditch match we came to see! You can’t let cute boys take your mind off the game, kid.”

“Oh like you’re one to talk,” Regulus muttered under his breath, which earned him a playful slap to his shoulder.

“It’s not my fault you know how to handle a broom so well,” James muttered back which caused the teenager in front of them to groan loudly.

“It’s not Cedric! Merlin!” Harry’s head fell into his hands, “It’sdracomalfoy.”

“Dra… did I hear you right?” James gaped at his son before turning to Regulus, “did he just say Draco Malfoy?”

Regulus couldn’t respond, he was biting the inside of his cheek trying not to laugh and embarrass their son any further.

“Yes. I know he’s mean but I can’t stop thinking about him. He’s smart and he’s really good at flying and even when he calls me names, my heart starts beating really fast and he has lovely hair and when he’s thinking in class, he gets this little frown line between his eyebrows and…” Harry trails off again, very aware he’s just said too much, “anyway… I just thought you should know. Okay, I’m going to go over to Ron’s now.”

Harry rushed out of the room before either man could say anything and James turned to Regulus in disbelief.

“Draco Malfoy?” James stammered, horror painting his face, “that little ferret is horrible to him!”

Regulus just turned back to his paper, lifting it high enough to cover his grin.

“Ah Jamie, it seems history really does repeat itself, hmm?”

I feel like Dumbledore has done irrefutable damage to the "wise older mentor who takes the traumatized kid under their wing" trope just because Rowling can't write father figures properly and now everyone expects every "wise old man who takes the traumatized kid under their wing" to be some inherent evil who's actually the spawn of Satan and only looking to harm said kid

I've seen it time and time again to many characters, but the ones I think of the most are All Might and Wu even though, objectively, they're great teachers and don't expect their kids to literally give up their life to stop the big bad. they made a few mistakes but literally everyone to ever exist is gonna make mistakes, but it doesn't make them bad people

in general I just really hate "character bashing" especially that of which I'll see in fanfiction and genuinely believe that if you stopped looking at all those characters through the lense of black and white and instead actually take the time to look into their characters and why they may act that way or make those mistakes and even, for fanfic writers, utilize those and expand upon them you'll find so much more depth

also usually I'm finding people giving more sympathy towards villains than characters who slighted the MC just a little bit and don't get me wrong I love my villains (huge garm fan here duh) but forgiving one but being overly critical of the mistakes of another is so weird

anyways I love my fanfiction writers who make old wise teachers flawed and human (so to speak in Wu's case) instead of irredeemable monsters who only have it out for the mc

Every time I watch the cold open of Memorial and B'Elanna tells Tom about how she ASSEMBLED a 50's television set from SCRATCH just to surprise him (there's no reason beyond that - just an incredibly sweet and thoughtful gesture) and replicated popcorn for him to eat while he watches and Tom says "They didn't have remote controls in the 50's ♥ Also where's my beer?" I contemplate murder ESPECIALLY because B'Elanna responds cheerfully to it - GIRL!!! LEAVE HIM!!!!!! IS HE SUPPOSED TO BE CHARMING IN THIS SCENE????

also yall we need to step back from the harryvision and understand that kim, at his core, is a loser (affectionate) like everyone else. so much out there wants to portray him as limitless patience, great cook, super organized, good handwriting, nice tasteful living quarters etc and that's fun to contrast him to harry but well i am here to RUIN that we need to take off the du bois glasses and appreciate kim for the weirdguy that he is. he has horrific fits of road rage and harry genuinely fears for his life riding along with him and witnessing the generational curses this man is capable of unleashing upon the stupid little fucks that cut him off on the 8/81. he has never had the time or space or budget to learn to cook so he lives off deli sandwiches and butter noodles and the occasional grab-and-go fruit. he writes so much so frequently with such awful handwriting that he has invented a new form of shorthand and the moralintern is contacting him to create a cipher system for them. he has no resources to furnish and maintain a nice flat so it's like a slightly gentrified r/malelivingspace but with a table for his sewing machine and there's scrap fabric and thread and half-pinned half-hemmed pants strewn about the place. there are absolutely a bunch of shitty mockups of his old wirral character in the backs of his notebooks and he hasn't played it in years but if he ever picks it back up then his minmax high int high dex definitely-not-a-self-insert sidhe artificer is READY. everyone add your weirdguy kim thoughts NOW 👇
