When he gets home, the first thing he does is marry you.

It's in a courthouse because it was the quickest way, and there were only a few members of both of your families there.

That night sure was one to remember.

I feel like Harry would be so so so excited to carry you across the threshold of your house for the first time. Adorable™️

Husband Harry would be the most attentive ever, I'm convinced.

After being away from you for so long, he tends to follow you like a lost puppy. Every now and then, you have to send him on some errands to get him out of the house.

When he was in the army, he always knew what he was supposed to do, but once he was home, he was uncertain of what do to. He didn't have a job for a little bit while he got accustomed to civilian life again. In the meantime, he was dedicated to being a loving husband.

Everyone knows Harry is a little bit of a wild child ("we're in a dell" and mr. jumps into Johnny's foxhole without saying the codeword) and he has a lot of energy.

When he gets a job as a teacher, it gives him an opportunity to engage with his students and get that energy out.

The first day he comes home from teaching, he goes on and on about each one of his students and how each of his lessons went.

He gets so excited, and you just love the way his eyes light up when he tells stories as you sit on the couch with him

(i have a feeling he teaches junior high history...but you decide which, though!)

"This little shithead in my second period asked how to do the writing assignment five seconds after I got done explaining it."

You just bust out laughing and ask, "And what did you do?"

"Well," he grinned. "I explained it again, even though I just wanted to slap the kid. What else was I supposed to do?"

You lean your head on his shoulder with a chuckle. "You could always use your army training and put the fear of God in them. Then they'd listen to you for sure, hon."

"True," Harry began, wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you against him. "But after beating a few dictators in Europe, I'd rather not be a dictator in my own classroom. I want the kids to enjoy learning."

"You already sound like the best teacher those kids will have, Mr. Welsh," you whisper, smiling up at him.

"Why thank you, Mrs. Welsh."

He shoots you his signature toothy grin before leaning down and planting a soft kiss on your lips.

"Maybe you could teach our kid someday," you wonder aloud, hoping he will catch your drift.

"Oh yeah, that would be fun."

"Well, you've got about 11 years until you have the chance to."

He's confused for a second, his brows furrowed. "Why 11?"

You place a hand on your stomach. "Because that's how long until our baby will be in junior high, Harry."

The man is even more confused. "What baby?"

"Harry," you chuckle, the biggest smile painting your lips. "I'm pregnant. We're having a baby."

THIS MAN. I'M CONVINCED HE'D ALMOST PASS OUT FROM EXCITEMENT. EYES WIDE...JAW DROPPED

"We're gonna be parents?"

Pulling his stunned figure into a hug, you rub his back gently, holding back tears. "Yeah, we're gonna be parents, honey."

From Harry Welsh's file: Presenting Dick Winters turning to Lewis Nixon in breakneck speed

One of the things that never fails to make my stomach do goddamn backflips are instances post-war when people remember Dick and Nix as a pair, whether consciously or unconsciously. Like a verbal/written representation of Dick saying, "He [Nix] always walked on my left side, one or two steps behind me." Many such cases:

Second Lieutenant Thomas Gibson in a letter to Harry Welsh (Feb 1980) after mentioning Dick he asks, "Oh by the way how's that Nixon guy?"

I do remember Dick Winters quite well. I almost hope he doesn't remember me. About the last time we met eyeball to eyeball was when we were in Germany or Austria toward the end of the war. [...] I do hope you give him my best wishes when you can. By the way, whatever became of Lewis Nixon? As I remember it Cap. Lewis J. Nixon III got letters from his father whose return address was Lewis J. Nixon II. Nixon Nitrate 00., Nixon, New Jersey. Is that right or do I just remember it that way? Tom L. Gibson in a letter to Harry Welsh dated 6 Feb. 1980

When Cole Kingseed's daughter, who spoke a lot to Dick when her father was writing out the two memoirs, hears about Dick's passing she says immediately,

“He was such a good friend to you, to us. I hope Major Winters is reuniting with his good buddy Nixon up in heaven right now, sharing their old glory stories.” - Conversations with Major Dick Winters, Cole C. Kingseed

Don Malarkey goes into a Nixon tangent in a 2007 panel when asked by an audience member, "Why did you guys respect Winters so much?"

He was a guy you admired for his personal habits... He didn't drink. He didn't smoke. I don't think he cussed. And there was a question on whether he went out with girls or not. So I think Winters' personal habits reflected on a feeling of a mentor. His best friend was a severe alcoholic—Nixon. How do you figure that out? Weehee this gives me another chance to talk about Merry Men, one of my favourite wolfstar fics! These are not in order tho

(FYI - some of these are WIPs but I am a 100% believer in reading WIPs, yeah sometimes you have to wait for a chapter but that's part of the joy, screaming at the author all your love and encouragement.)

Merry Men - @copper-dust

It's gorgeously written, I mean every second sentence is poetry, and several I've had to put it down just to think about the masterpiece of a paragraph I've just read. Military AU, with a brutally honest view of the Vietnam war - we've got soft wolfstar amidst gunfire and grief, and sweet new cadet James, and all the incredibly 4D minor characters you could ask for. Deserves so so much more kudos and attention, it's currently <50 kudos and it's absolutely criminal.

When A Star Fell To Earth - EmRoseJori

Sci-fi AU. This was an absolute blast beginning to end. This is like watching a thrilling space-fi movie but with Wolfstar. And Remus is Welsh!!! It pretty much all takes place on earth, but in a futuristic post-apocalyptic setting. 430 kudos isn't minor but I think it deserves a hell of a lot more.

Made of Magic - lurikko

Short and sweet. Somehow combines cute and unnerving, menacing haunting vibes. Remus is hired to essentially exorcise Mr Black's house and there's something strange about the magic in the house. It's spooky and charming - recommend with a blanket and a tea on an overcast day.

The Space Between - @emeryhall

This fic made me laugh and cry (I finished a tissue box). It's a get-together fic where Remus follows Sirius through the veil. So so fresh and creative.

We Of Dust & Shadow - @eurhythmix

A stars crossed, soul mate adjacent AU. Difficult to describe without spoiling the fun, but it was thrilling and emotional and beautiful beginning to end. If you liked the themes of The Fall (minus the rom com), I think you'll like this short fic.

Not Like it Used To Be, But Just As Good @starrysummer-nights

Oh my God, this fic. The ultimate soft porn with feelings. So many feelings and emotions and LOVE between older wolfstar. And the smut is fucking hot, you'll need a fan.

Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors

Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?

What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.

Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.

Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.

I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!

a. make a moodboard/edit/headcanon for who you think is underrated for any of the shows

I think bull is underrated. headcanon that he's a grill master. that guy can cook a mean hot dog

e. what was a character arc in any of the shows that you loved?

I think eugene sledge's arc is probably the best one out of these shows. he changes so much and completely breaks down and loses himself and then rebuilds I think it's the best done arc in all of these shows

f. rank all four shows in order of favorite to least and explain why.

bob > the pacific > gen kill > mota

bob just has the best characters and a cohesive story while the pacific is a bit more disjointed but I also think has a more compelling message, but I have more affection for bob and its characters. then gen kill because it's very well done but I've only seen it once and the marine speak kills me I think I need to see it several more times to fully grasp everything. great characters though, great dialogue, and very relevant to today. mota struggles the most with fleshing out its characters and their arcs and having a specific message. I love the bucks though

oh gosh I'm kind of quiet and keep to myself because I'm shy and a loser but I'll tag some people whose posts and fan creations I love

@kbsd you give me bucky vibes because you're spunky and creative. your edits are so tapped into the emotions of the characters that I feel like you're very in tune with things around you/connecting with people/embracing that emotionality

@babe-heffron lipton vibes. like I always feel happy and calm when I see you on the dash and I like how you can very easily joke around but you also have interesting observations about the characters and the fandom. like if you like my post and add funny tags to it I feel like I've made a good post 🫡

@pfctipper always love seeing you on the dash because I know there's going to be some interesting history and analysis left in your wake. so nix vibes. you come across as very knowledgeable and intelligent but you're also witty and I love your observations about bob and specifically dick and nix

Buck Compton came back to see the Company to let us know that he was alright. He became a prosecutor in Los Angeles. He convicted Sirhan Sirhan in the murder of Robert Kennedy, and was later appointed to the California Court of Appeals. 

David Webster became a writer for the Saturday Evening Post and Wall Street Journal, and later wrote and book about sharks. In 1961, he went out on the ocean alone, and was never seen again.

Johnny Martin would return to his job at the railroad and then start his own construction company. He splits his time between Arizona and a place in Montana.

George Luz became a handyman in Providence, Rhode Island. As a testament to his character, sixteen hundred people attended his funeral in 1998.

Doc Roe died in Louisiana in 1998. He’d been a construction contractor.

Frank Perconte returned to Chicago and worked a postal route as a mailman.

Joe Liebgott returned to San Francisco and drove his cab.

Bull Randleman was one of the best soldiers I ever had. He went into the earth moving business in Arkansas. He’s still there.

Alton More returned to Wyoming with a unique souvenir: Hitler’s personal photo albums. He was killed in a car accident in 1958.

Floyd Talbert we all lost touch with in civilian life, until he showed up at a reunion just before his death in 1981.

Carwood Lipton became a glass making executive in charge of factories all over the world. He has a nice life in North Carolina.

Harry Welsh – he married Kitty Grogan. Became an administrator for the Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania school system.

Ronald Speirs stayed in the Army, served in Korea. In 1958, returned to Germany as Governor of Spandau Prison. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel.

Lewis Nixon had some tough times after the war. He was divorced a couple of times. Then in 1956, he married a woman named Grace and everything came together for him. He spent the rest of his life with her, travelling the world. My friend Lew died in 1995.

I took up his job offer and was a personnel manager at the Nixon Nitration Works, until I was called back into service in 1950 to train officers and rangers. I chose not to go to Korea. I’d had enough of war. I stayed around Hershey, Pennsylvania, finally finding a little farm. A little peaceful corner of the world, where I still live today. And there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of the men I served with who never got to enjoy the world without war.
