Hey! I really enjoy your Band of Brothers and The Pacific writings so much! I wanted to ask if you could write something on Burgin (heâs my absolute fav and I feel he is greatly underrated)!!! I wanted to request something as well about him returning back home to Texas after the war and trying to impress a girl from his hometown that he comes across someday (whom he knew of before he left to go to the war but never really spoke to he before). Sheâs a bit hard to impress and is rather introverted but nothing I donât think Burgin canât handle haha. Thanks so much đ

Warnings: Swearing, kissing, mentions of war, mentions of burn injuries, jealousy, and drinking.
a/n: Hey friend, I hope you enjoy!! This is probably the longest thing iâve wrote in a while, so please excuse any mistakes!! I honestly got so carried up with this oneshot lol but I love it so much! Hope you all enjoy!! (Also, please note that there are a lot of historical inaccuracies and this story is in no way disrespect to any real life veterans, this one-shot is solely based off the character in the show! Everything else is fictional! :))
(R.v. Burgin x fem reader)
Today was arguably the calmest day heâs had in years. Just him, and his best friend from back home, Chris, on the back of his pickup truck drinking two cold Coca-Colas. (which he had dearly missed the taste of.) They were downtown on a nice Saturday afternoon enjoying the nice weather. It was the most relaxed heâs felt in a while, the nice breeze patting his back made him feel at peace. A feeling he deserved after a long time from home, there werenât any bombs blasting behind him, or heavy gunfire going off right beside his ear, instead it was quiet. He was glad to be back home.
It was only his second day back in Texas and there she was. She and a couple of her friends were walking out of a clothing store when his eyes caught a glimpse of hers. She was laughing and giggling about something that R.V. couldnât quite catch, but he couldnât take his eyes off of her even if he wanted to. He could have sworn she was an angel.
The sunlight was bouncing off of her skin during midday, making her bright and bubbly laughter feel radiant. Itâs like he could see no one else but her, or at least until he felt his friend, Chris elbow his side hard, it was the kind of force only a friend of many years could give him.
âLike whatchaâ see, pal?â Chris said with a slight smirk that R.V. could hear in his voice. âOh shut up. Iâve just never seen her around before.â R.V. remarked looking back at Chris. He had to know more about this girl. âOh R.V., youâve missed a lot while youâve been goneâ, Christopher laughed, his voice honing in on R.V. as if he told an inside joke that Burgin had no clue of. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â R.V. turned back to his friend to give him a questioning glance before taking a big sip of his Coca-Cola. âMan, thatâs y/n, we all went to school together?â Chris chirped enthusiastically as if heâd been waiting for Burgin to ask.
A smile now appeared on his face, one that he hadnât shown in a while. He started to see the resemblance now, remembering your sweet smile from years ago. âSheâs really grown into her looks, hasnât she?â Chris said happily, still staring at you. R.V. rolled his eyes in response. Sure you had grown up, if thatâs what Chris meant. All three of you had, but to Burgin, you hadnât changed a bit.
He had always thought of you as beautiful, even when you yelled at him in front of the whole first grade after putting a small toad that he had found in the woods, in the classroom's dollhouse during recess. He knew how reserved and quiet you were, and to get such a heated reaction from you.. Well he was shocked, but he also felt a new feeling that he couldnât quite grasp, one that made his heart race whenever you were near. âDo you know what sheâs up to these days?â He asked Chris and quickly scolded himself for not recognizing you at first. In his defense, he had really forgotten everyone from home other than his family and Chris after a while.
Chris was an Anchor-Clanker during the war, one hell of a sailor before coming back home. It seemed like Chris had found adjusting back to civilian lifestyle very easy. It's something that R.V. couldnât quite agree with. He knew that it would take time of course, but coming back home has been like a whole new world for him, very different from the lifestyle heâs had for these past few years.
Chris took a swig of his cola as if it were beer before replying. âI think she still lives with her ma and pa, she left to Houston to become a Gray Lady a little after you left for basic. Hell, I think she came back home only a week ago.â R.V. thought to himself after what Chris had said. Only a couple days back home, just like him.
He studied her face as she walked down the street with her friends, noticing how she used her hands exaggeratedly to explain something to the other girls with her. It was only a matter of time until she got swept up by some other soldier coming back home, or at least thatâs what he thought. He didnât realize how much he felt the void of female presence until he saw you. His heart fluttered when you glanced his way, your smile sent him butterflies all over his body. This was his chance to make a move before it was too late. He couldnât think about anything else other than getting closer to you.
Before he could announce to Chris what he was going to do, his body was already off of the truck, setting his cola aside and walking across the street towards you and your friends, not taking the time to wait until the cars near the crosswalk were gone. Itâs like his body worked faster than his mind, like he was doing only what felt right in the moment. He wasnât exactly sure what he was going to say or do when he got to you, but he couldnât pass up the chance to talk to you either way.
âWhere are you going?!â He could hear Chris in the background, but he didnât have time to answer. His heart was racing, and his pulse was getting quicker with each step closer towards you. A smile appeared on his face once he made it to you and your friends, and with a long breath and a questioning stare from the girls you had with you, he finally spoke up. âCan I ask you a question?â He felt nervous waiting for your response. The silence was almost deafening. All of your friends looked at you waiting for a reply. âYes, R.V, it is, right?â You gave him a response that he was hoping for, your sweet voice filling his ears making his cheeks a small shade of red.
He felt even more nervous being this close to you, now he had gotten to see all of the little features on your face that he couldnât while he was on the truck. He was too focused looking at you to think of anything else, a common reoccurrence. âI,-â He paused, thinking about what he should say, before coming to a conclusion. âHow are you so beautiful?â He said breathlessly. He felt embarrassment almost immediately. He put his hand over his mouth in regret and moved his hand down to his chin smoothly to make him look in shock. His inside thoughts had finally come out and spoke for themself. Before he knew it, there was an eruption of laughter between you and your friends. He took his hand and rubbed behind his neck in an attempt to cover his embarrassment. What came over him suddenly to make him say that? âThat was a good one, R.V.!â You said with a giggle.
If making a fool out of himself made you smile, then he was more than happy to be foolish. He laughed along with you very awkwardly in an attempt to seem unfazed, like it was a joke in the first place. âIâll see you aroundâ You smiled softly before heading off with your friends, leaving him. He waved you a goodbye, one that you couldnât see because your back facing him, before walking back to Chris. Who was now sitting at the end of the truck and dangling his feet off of the end, looking amused.
When R.V. made it to the truck, Chris started clapping. âI think youâre a real ace at talking to broads, pal!â Chris started breaking out into laughter before Burgin could admit to his defeat. âItâs okay, Iâll find a chance to talk to her again. Alone hopefully.â He said to Chris with confidence, although his inner feelings were quite different. He grabbed his cola and scooted himself back onto the truck so he was sitting next to Chris. He huffed in disappointment and slumped down slightly, drinking the last bit of his cola. âYouâll get âem next timeâ Chris replied a little more seriously after seeing a somber look take over R.Vâs face. âYeah, next time for sure.â
2 weeks later
âAre you ready, boys?!â R.V. heard his mother shout from downstairs, still waiting for R.V. and his father. The urgency in her voice was making him button up his coat even faster than his previous speed.
Of course his fatherâs workplace would have their huge yearly party right around the time that he came back home, and to be completely honest, he was dreading it. The empty conversations with little to no life in them, the awkward stares after being gone for so long, and it didnât help that his parents were making him wear his dress blues, although it was a social cocktail party with high formality, he was worried he would stick out like a sore thumb.
He could already see his future. Having to answer questions upon questions from women and men, overwhelming him to find the right and appropriate answers. He let out a big sigh, calming his brain for the events ahead. The thought alone overwhelmed him. He already wanted this party to be over before it had even begun.
Just a slip on of his white gloves and he was done getting ready. He couldnât delay going downstairs any longer. R.Vâs father opened his door slowly, right on cue as if he somehow felt R.V.âs hesitance. âAre yaâ ready, son?â R.V. 's dad said as peered through the door. He was in his Sunday best, with a black suit and tie of course. âYeah, I'm ready.â R.V. replied with a shake of his head. His father could tell his nervousness just by the expression on R.V.âs face. âYou got this son, itâll be nothingâ His father replied, giving him a sweet smile and a pat on the back that gave him somewhat of a relief. They both walked out of his room and started down the steps. âHey, you might even find someone there.â He said going down the steps quicker than R.V. did, putting him behind his father. He thought about what his dad said for a second, stopping right at the last step. What if you happened to be there by some chance?
âYou look great, honey. Iâm so proud.â His mother said, causing him to break out of his thoughts. Both his ma and pa were waiting for him by the door so that they could be on their way to the party. âThanks ma, glad to be back.â He replied with a close lipped smile as he got stepped down from the last step. His mother hugged him tightly before he could say anything else. He quickly accepted the hug and hugged her back softly.
âYou guys ready?â His pa said, opening the front door of their home. He unwrapped his arm from her before walking out of the door, his mother following quickly after with his father. It was going to be one interesting night for the Burgins indeed.
~~~
When they arrived he could see the gate wide open for its guests, revealing the house to his eyes where he could finally see how big it was. He didnât think his father had that many co-workers. It was a great large venue in the middle of nowhere. Cars were parked out front in no specific order, in the grass or what small areas of gravel they could find.
The party was hosted at the old vineyard house that everyone in town loved because of its extravagant beauty. It was now used as some sort of banquet hall for the town's use. The sun was setting making the view look picturesque. Some people were outside, with the finest dresses and long glasses of champagne in their hands. Probably some sort of small talk about the weather, or about the party, And some were inside, most likely doing the same exact thing.
Their car was finally parked as they walked closer towards the house, the closer he got to the building, he could tell how big it really was. As they had finally made it onto the porch, He heard a somewhat familiar voice call out to him, âRomus, oh how nice you look! Iâm glad to see you here!â He turned his head to his left to see who the commenter was. He smiled when he saw who it was. One of his old school teachers from primary school. If he had to pick, she would have been his favorite teacher out of all the years heâd ever learned. He shook his head to himself slightly at the use of his first name, no one ever really called him that except for his mother when she was mad at him, but he didnât pay much mind to it. It was nice to see someone familiar to him in this unknown place.
âItâs nice to see you, Miss. How have you been?â he replied softly as she came closer to him. He could tell she had aged from the last time he had seen her, but she still kept her sweet smile that he remembered from when he was a little boy. It seemed as if R.V. hadnât changed that much to her either, âYouâre still sweet as apple pie! It is surely nice to see you!â She replied in her nice southern accent. He could smell a strong scent of liquor coming from her mouth as she got closer.
âItâs nice seeing you too maâamâ He chuckled slightly to himself when he saw the small amount of drink she had left in her cocktail. It was more than obvious she had gotten a little too happy at the bar before the party barely even started. "Now you have yourself a time, alright?â She said, loudly walking back to her friends and not giving him a chance to reply.
When he looked around for his parents, he could see that they had already left him and made their way inside of the big ballroom. It looked like he would have to find his way around here tonight alone. As he walked into the venue he looked around attentively, to look for his parents, (who were most likely swept away by other coworkers and friends), but to also take in the extravagance of the building first hand.
Old floral wallpapers adorned the wall, and there were big windows all around the huge room that overlooked the vineyard. He could tell that the place had been renovated heavily, as it once was a house and now had become one big ballroom. The ceiling stood high with multiple big crystal chandeliers that lit up the space. It was open and spacious for all, with the room mainly used for dancing and talking. There were poseur tables and chairs on the sides of the floor, where people ate and drank whatever the party had to offer. The catering service had a little station in the corner of the grand room that had canapes of all sorts. And there was no way he could have missed the built-in bar with stored glassware and drinks of all kinds.
R.V. could have imagined that this same room was used for similar parties years ago under different circumstances. Maybe large debutante balls that had groups playing loud classical music instead of the sweet jazz they had tonight, or maybe even a mysterious masquerade ball that had unique masks with people that talked very differently then what they do now. As his thoughts swarmed, he wasted no time taking himself to the bar.
As the time went by, the events of the party were what R.V. expected. Overwhelming. Boring. Small talk with people he barely remembered or didnât even know, was the norm at this event for him. He didnât expect anything different tonight. He found himself back at the bar table over and over again, hoping that there would be a new conversation each time he wandered back over there. Yet, after an hour and a half of walking around in circles and bar visits, just a small buzz later, he figured he had met just about everyone in the whole damn building.
He found himself getting more bored by the minute. That is, until his favorite song, âPennsylvania 6-5000â Started to erupt through the room played by the lovely band.
He got up almost immediately, as if there was some magnetic force pulling him to the dance floor. Maybe it was the same force that pulled him to you on that sunny day two weeks ago.
As R.V. descended to the dance floor, he quickly noticed a familiar figure in a striking red dress across the room. His heart started to pick up speed almost immediately and he could feel his stomach jump with excitement. All he could see in that moment was you as your gaze met him in the crowd. He didnât expect to see you here, but it changed his night almost instantaneously. You were by yourself, watching the groups of dancers in joy and swaying your body along softly with the music. He felt such a relief knowing that you were here. This was his chance to talk to you formally one-on-one and apologize for what had happened two weeks ago.
The feeling in his chest started to quicken much more when he took in detail of your dressâs design, and he would be lying if he said that looking at you in such a magnificent dress didnât leave him a little breathless. Like the previous encounter between you two before, he didnât waste his time making his way towards you. That is until R.V. saw him.
Him as in the guy who brought you a glass of lemonade with your coat draped over his arm, the guy who whispered something in your ear that made you giggle. He stopped his way to you abruptly. Making him accidentally displace a young couple who was dancing with quick speed. âWatch it, pal!â He heard the guy he bumped into say sharply. R.V. had heard him, but everything had started to sound distant. He looked over at you with his jaw clenched in an attempt to hide his emotions, but his eyes told no lie.
The look he gave to you was forlorn. It all made sense to him now, when you had been short with him that day. It was all because you had someone else the entire time. That feeling in his chest turned from good to sour. He needed to get away for a second, the feeling of fresh air was now becoming a need for him.
He quickly moved his way off of the dance floor and charged toward the big entry doors. Once he felt the outside air hit his face he felt relieved. R.V. hadnât realized how much you really meant to him until he saw you swept away by someone else. He looked around and finally settled for a seat on the outside steps.
It was now dark out, and no one was outside at this point. Just him, the parked cars, and the occasional chirp of a bird. Other than that he was completely alone with his thoughts. He had made his mind up then and there. He would excuse himself from the party with a âsick stomachâ and just walk home. That seemed like the best thing to do at the moment.
He wasnât up for dancing, getting drunk at the bar, or having to act like he cared about any of the stupid stuff this party provided. He sat up from the stairs and thought about leaving without saying a word for a second. Sure his parents would worry, but if anything he could handle himself. He walked down the stairs and planted his feet on the gravel. Other thoughts rushed through his head too. They were thoughts of you, like how he felt when he heard your sweet laugh after so long, or that one time in junior high when you gave him the last answer on a science test he hadnât studied for, even with the chance that you would have gotten in trouble too. The sound of your voice whenever you spoke, and those gentle eyes of yoursâŚ
He was now contemplating back and forth. All of these thoughts of you suddenly came rushing through his head and swamped him with the realization that he canât let you go. His mind had made a new decision now. Instead of going home, he was going to go back inside and just try to talk to you.
R.V. took a nice long breath, making sure to steady himself before walking back into the party. The laughter and music from inside started to get closer as he walked up the small stairs to the porch and took a couple big steps towards the door. But before he could make it inside, someone bumped into him hard, making him take a step back.
He looked up to quickly realize it was you. Time seemed to stand still at that moment. It was now silent. His eyes met yours once again. Locking and not letting go. No words were spoken, just the mutual look at one another. You stared at him for what felt like an eternity. Neither of you had begun to speak or move. Itâs like everything stopped for a second. R.V. 's brain started to short circuit after staring into your eyes for so long. He didnât want to break eye contact and waited for the right time to speak up, but before he even opened his mouth, you beat him to it.
âHey, R.V.â You sounded almost surprised to see him, especially after the way he vanished moments ago. It was obvious, you could tell he was nervous. He didnât reply, but was silent. Maybe it was because he was waiting for you to say something else, or he just couldnât find the right words to say. You continued before giving him a chance to speak, just as he figured out what to say. âI saw that you were walking out and just wanted to tell you that you looked nice, I also want to apologize if I hurt your feelings the last time we spoke, I meant no harm.â
He looked at you with a deep guise on his face when you apologized. He stared at you while you said it. He found it hard to read the look on your face. He spoke up, âPlease donât apologize, I didnât mean to trouble you and your friends, but please know that I did mean what I said.â He paused before taking a leap of faith. âYouâre beautiful, y/nâ He could see a dark crimson creep up on your face lightly. He didnât feel the need to take back his words like last time. His compliment to you wasnât forced or awkward, it was soft and warm, like a hug.
âThank you, reallyâ You said, breaking out into a small giggle, one that he adored most. He could feel the awkward tension ease after your laughter. He now felt the time was right to take yet another leap of faith tonight. âItâs alright if you donât want to, knowinâ you have a date and all, but would you like to dance with me?â He felt his heart pound in his chest, almost worried it would break free out of his sweaty dress blues.
He hoped that you couldnât hear the sound of his heart beating so quickly, he didnât want you to feel his nervousness. âI would love to.â you looked up at him with a warm smile, one that made him feel at ease. His heart slowly pumped back to its original, calmer pace.
âJust a warning though, I'm not the best dancer.â You winced, thinking of the countless times youâve danced before. He laughed at your expression before replying, âI'm not the best dancer either.â He could remember the first time he had ever danced with a girl. He tripped over his shoe strings and felt embarrassed the entire night.
He put his left hand out as an offering, which you gladly accepted. You and him stepped back into the big room hand-in-hand. He took the lead in front of you, making way towards the dance floor. He felt butterflies in his stomach when he realized how soft your hand was, so delicate and smooth. He felt excitement take over him when he realized that you and him were finally going to share this moment together.
You and him quickly made it onto the dance floor just in time for the band to start playing a tune that R.V. recognized almost immediately, the classic, âUndecidedâ by Chick Webb and Ella Fitzgerald. Now this is a song he could definitely dance to.
It seemed as if R.V. couldnât hold back his feet any longer. He took you by the hand and spun you out, only for you to dance back to him in a twist, in tune with the lively beat of the music. Look at that! You were a natural! Your footwork mixed with his almost perfectly, like cinnamon and chocolate, while you and him danced around the room. A smile erupted from his face as he watched the nervousness melt off of your body. You moved your body around at a quick pace, looking back up at him with a smile. If he wasnât in such a groove, he probably would have tripped over his feet and made a fool of himself. He watched you dance attentively, while also still making sure to keep up with you. If only Chris had been here to watch all of this.
â
R.V. clapped with you as the music stopped. It was the third song you and him danced to of the night. With all of the excess movement you and him both felt tired. Good thing the band was taking a break right when the third song ended. âYou were being humble when you commented on your dancing earlierâ R.V. said with a laugh.
It was true that you could swing like no other. He was mesmerized watching you move. He felt a knot in his stomach when he realized how close he was to you the entire time that you and him danced. âI could say the same for you! Youâre one good dancerâ You exchanged a giggle in return.
Both of you moved off of the dance floor and found a poseur table with two barstools, a perfect seat for you two after a long time of dancing. âIâll go get us something to drink, want anything?â He said to you as you placed a seat on one of the barstools. He felt content being the one to offer you a drink instead of someone else. âJust a Coke please!â You replied to his question softly.
He made his way to the bar, and upon his arrival asked for two Colas, which was a shock to the bartender considering that he had drank only beers up until now. âHiya son! Having fun? I saw you dancing with a pretty gal!â R.V.âs father popped up behind him, patting his shoulder. He chuckled at what his father said. âPretty indeed. Whereâs ma?â R.V. replied back as the bartender handed him two cold sodas.
âOh you know her, talking to some friends of hers. I just wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing. Me and your mother might leave soon, weâve had one heck of a nightâ His father said with a smile. R.V. smiled too. He could already see his mom 50 feet away talking with some of the other moms there, she always enjoyed chirping to her friends, even if it was about nothing at all. âWhatâs her name?â His pa said, not really giving R.V. a chance to say anything else, even though he probably wouldnât have said much at all. âY/nâ, As R.V. said that, he looked towards you. You were looking around the room and swinging your legs on the stool. He thought you looked adorable. âShe looks like a nice girl. You be good to her.â âI willâ R.V. replied to his father, still holding the two sodas in his hand. âSee ya, pa!â R.V. got up from his seat and progressed towards you carefully. Making sure not to drop your drink or his.
Once he got to the table he handed you your drink before sitting on the other stool. You and him sipped your drinks in silence for a moment. The band had finally picked back up, and as expected, more couples piled onto the dancefloor. It was later into the night so the band had slowed to more softer, slow paced music compared to before, but it was still more than enjoyable. âWhere is he? Your date?â R.V. asked you, taking his straw and swirling it around his drink.
You looked up at him before speaking. âOh, Arthur? I wasnât really his dateâ You shook your head in explanation. âWeâre friends. Him and I met during the war. He had no one else to bring and he thought I could use a change of scenery.â You explained to him. It sort of made sense to R.V. now. He waited to say something until he was sure she was finished talking. âHeâs already spoken for. As you can see over thereâ You pointed your finger to Arthur. Who was at the moment slow dancing with a pretty blonde on his chest. âHe needed some extra encouragement.â You laughed, waving at Arthur, who also gave a wave back. Ohhh. R.V. finally understood now, just friends. She was here to help him talk to the girl he was dancing with now. He scolded himself for thinking otherwise earlier, even though they seemed pretty exclusive moments before.
âOh, thatâs realâ nice of you. R.V. said, taking a big sip of his drink, feeling the carbonation sizzle down his throat. âIs that why you left earlier?â You said, looking at him with an accusatory smirk. He had now been caught. R.V. felt like you could read right through him. He didnât have to explain himself, because you already knew. âNo way.â He said sarcastically, still holding a playful manner in hopes of sparking up a conversation full of banter between you two. The night had started slow, but became swift in the end. You and him, dancing, talking and laughing together, it felt perfect.
The moment felt right, so you spoke up. âR.V., do you maybe want to walk me home? Itâs getting awful late and I would love to talk with you more.â You looked at him waiting for an answer. âOf course.â He replied with a toothy grin. You and him both finished your drinks and said goodbyes to the company that brought you and him here. âPa, Iâm walking my gal home. Iâll see you at the houseâ R.V. said to his Father who was most likely about to leave himself. âAlright, kiddo. You two be safe!â
His father smiled at you and R.V. before going back to his conversation with R.V.âs mother. He took your hand, making you feel butterflies when he did, and led you out of the big ballroom with him.
It was quiet outside other than the sound of crickets chirping and cars buzzing as they left the huge building. âMy house isnât far. I live practically next door.â You said walking down the steps with him. You and R.V. were now side by side, with your arm wrapped around his. âReally? I bet you got a pretty view from your place then.â R.V replied back with a chuckle. He could only imagine how the nice pastures out here looked from your home. âWell not really my house, itâs my parents. I used to come out here when I was a little girl, walk my way through the fields to the abandoned vineyard. I danced on the creaky wooden floors and dreamed of having a party here, in real life.â He could imagine, younger you dancing lively in the big building, behind you and him. âWell you got your dream tonight, didnât you?â He turned his head to you to give you a big grin. You and him had now made it out of the gravel area and towards the fields, away from the old road. âI did. Thank you for having such a fun time with me.â You spoke softly. R.V. could hear the sleepiness in your voice. He would be lying if he said he didnât feel a little tired himself. Before he knew it your head was tilted on his shoulder, taking refuge in the comforting warmth. It was quiet for a moment. Not an awkward silence, but a calm one. Neither of you felt the need to talk, just listening to the breath of one another was just as fine. âHowâd you meet Arthur?â R.V. was the first one to break the silence, the random question had suddenly popped up into his head and made him wonder. âI met him at the hospital I volunteered at. He was injured badly during Pearl Harbor.â You continued, â He was hospitalized for months and months, First at the Naval Hospital in Hawaii, and then sent to Houston. He had severe burns all over his body. When I first volunteered, I didnât know what I was doing half the time, I was overwhelmed to say the least. He was always nice to me, like a big brother. He had already been there for so long, it seemed like he knew more than I did.â You exhaled when you finished. R.V. cleared his throat before speaking. âOhâŚâ R.V. trailed off, âthat must have been real hard for him.â He grimaced to himself when he thought of how bad some of the burns must have been. He had witnessed it before, with some of his friends, he wouldnât wish that type of pain on anyone. âIt was. But he made it out alright after all. And now heâs dancing with a girl he could only dream of.â The way you said it, in such a positive way, gave him hope. Hope for lots of new beginnings, a fresh start. That the things he saw or did, couldnât define him anymore. He wasnât in the Pacific. He was home, with you, and he sensed that this was the best he had felt in forever. As you and him were talking, neither of you noticed how close your house was, finally in clear view, maybe 50 yards away. âR.V. Can I ask you a question?â You took your head off of his shoulder, only to look up at him. âHow do you feel, after coming home?â R.V. thought about it for a moment. He hadnât really had anyone ask him a question like that. He wasnât sure what to say, so he gave a comical answer. âBetter, now that I'm sleeping on a soft bed.â He said with a beam on his face. Once he gave his answer, you and him had both finally made it to your house. To R.V. It looked like a warm place. A cozy home that made you feel relaxed whenever you spent time in it. âWell, I guess this is it. Thank you for walking me home. âYou said, taking him up the steps of your porch. He was now facing you with your hands holding his. R.V. didnât want this night to end between you two. He wanted to keep talking to you. To ask you more questions, but he could tell you were already so tired, so he kept it short, âWhen will I be able to see you again?â
You gave him a grin that showed your teeth. âSoon, hopefully.â It was just you and him now, again facing one another in complete silence. It seemed like R.V. ran out of words, and all he could do was look at those soft lips of yours, how nice they looked⌠R.V. brought his hands up to you, cupping your face. He wanted to kiss you so badly, but felt hesitance. âCan I?â He said in a soft whisper. âYesâ, you replied. If he hadnât been listening, he wouldnât have heard you. Before you knew it, you felt his lips melt into yours slowly. He felt goosebumps as he closed the gap between you two. He wanted to savor the moment with you as best as he could. When your lips parted his, his lips moved up to your forehead, giving you a soft kiss there. The gentle gesture made you visibly blush, which made his heart beat even fast. âGoodnight.â He said, retracting his hands from your face, and placing them by his side. âGoodnightâ You replied quietly, before opening the door of your home, and walking inside. When he heard the door shut fully, he started to make his way down your steps in victory. He had one hell of a night. A night he wouldnât forget, because it was a night brought him, you.
Hope you enjoyed this again!! If you enjoyed, please like or reblog! đđ
𼺠may I ask for Zombie Apocalypse weapon/fighting style for the K company boys? (Ack-ack, Hillbilly, Sledge, Snafu, Burgie, Jay, Leyden)
OF COURSE YOU MAY
1) Merriell Shelton - oh he goes first because you fucking KNOW he pulls a michonne hawthorne and drags around several zombies with their lower jaw and arms cut off tied to several leashes in order to mask his smell from zombie hordes. also? machete for SURE. man's scrappy as all hell he'll go down fighting. he doesn't do guns, but he does do an assortment of knives.
2) Eddie Jones - I just had this really funny mental image of him smashing up several zombie with his guitar. Not a good choice of weapon seeing as it would fall apart easy, but it does go down the direction I think he'd go down, which is swinging stuff around. A metal bat, for sure. He strikes me as a kind of person whose weapons are extensions of himself. A bit like John-Wick-Throwing-A-Gun-At-Someone's-Head-Once-He-Runs-Out-Of-Bullets kinda vibe, ya know? He'd also have a gun, but just a small one. Backup.
3) Andrew Haldane - Ooof, ok definitely a rifle of some kind, but small. I also contemplated pistol, which I think he does carry, too. But that's like a back-up thing. He has a lot of back-ups on him. Andy's thing, I think, as their leader, is to appear as non-threatening as possible to anybody on the outside, because I feel like he holds true to his morals and belief that there isn't anyone he can't win over? He has his boys to back him up, in case shit goes down, but he's also not stupid, he knows he has to carry something. So I think he carries small pistols, like a revolver or a glock. A knife in his boot. Things easy to hide and are probably last resort use. That kinda thing.
4) RV Burgin - oh definitely the rifle. practical, quick, big enough that even without ammo it's a weapon in and of itself. He fights very by the book, Burgie, as if he's at a war with Geneva Conventions to adhere to and not in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. He's like a well oiled machine, just point him somewhere and off he goes. Also very adaptable, as I said, he can use his rifle even without ammo and he won't hesitate to use anything else around him, too.
5) Jay de L'eau - I just keep thinking Bazooka, since that's what we saw him use in the airfield, but I like to think Bill would get those big ones, ya know? Jay would probably get his hands on a big one and then kinda just ditch it for something smaller and more manageable in tight spaces BUT is also still long distance, like a crossbow! it's long distance, but it's silent and easy to reload. obviously he'll have to scrounge up the arrows, but I have a feeling he knows how to make his own, too.
6) Bill Leyden - SOMEBODY GIVE THIS BOY A FLAMETHROWER not even for practical reasons you just fucking KNOW he'd be fantastic on a flamethrower!! he'd have the time of his life let him have a flamethrower. maybe even a bazooka. it'd be so cool.
7) Eugene Sledge - um. where do you think the nickname Sledgehammer came from in this AU? of fucking course the boy is smashing up zombie brains with a massive sledgehammer. not quite as gracefully or fluidly as Hillbilly, since there's so much weight at the end of his weapon as compared to a metal bat, BUT there's fucking INTENT in all his swings. that's the primal rage. sometimes, I feel like he'd go after these suckers with his bare hands. He'd have something traditional at first, though, like his hunting rifle from his dad. and lowkey? I also think he'd use Deacon as a weapon. I mean, I'm aware that he's a herding dog, but push comes to shove, I think he'd take advantage of the dog's protective nature just a bit? Like he definitely would allow Deacon to go for the jugular from time to time, like if they're cornered? yeah, I could imagine that.
Harbor | War-Tober #10
Description: Melbourne is in the distance.
Fandom: The Pacific
â¨Pairing: â¨RV Burgin/Reader
Word Count: â¨600+
Warning(s): Â None.
Almost every marine on the ship is sprawled out on the deck, welcoming the dry sun and the ocean breeze as it rushes over you. Whatâs left of Fifth Division, Third Battalion, King Company, Mortar Squad Two is no different. Jay is curled up into a ball against the railing, twitching in his sleep. Snafu has his knees folded criss-cross and is taking lazy drags of a stale cigarette, his head upturned towards the sun. Burgin is bare-chested and sitting on a crate, twisting his shirt in his hands and staring out at the Ocean. You are under Burgin, laying flat on your back on the deck, with your hands folded on your stomach.Â
Earlier in the day, there was a rumor drifting around the cafeteria that you were headed to Melbourne for a rest. The sentiment of that thought is nice, but you donât let it settle in your chest. You donât expect to be ported anytime soon.
âIâm used to ships,â you tell Burgin after he says he still prefers an island to a battleship. âYou know, my dadâs a ship painter at a yard?â
âYea?â he asks from his perch up on the crate. Heâs holding one knee to his chest, the other is dangling off the side and heâs looking off in the direction the shipâs headed like some sort of sailor. The thought of him in Navy whites makes you smile.Â
âYea,â you say from the floor. You squint past the sun at his shadowed front. âThey were always cominâ in and out of the harbor -- these fucking hee-uge freighters -- and then there were Coastguard vessels wheeling around. Pleasure boats, too; little sailboats built for speed or ones with cabins. Fishing boats were the most common, though. Theyâd be out trawling with giant nets in the mornings -- but Iâd see a couple Navy vessels like this sometimes, too.â You rap your knuckles on the deck beneath you. âI never been on a ship this big before all this, but my first job was on one of those fishing boats. I gut the fish as they came in.âÂ
Burgin wrinkles his nose and you laugh lightly. âIt wasnât that bad. You got used to the smell after a while.âÂ
Snafu is sitting with his back to the crate Burgin is on, next to your head, and the air between you fills with cigarette smoke until itâs washed away by the salty breeze. You close your eyes, and sink into the warm deck beneath you. Youâre sweltering in the sun, but it would be worse below decks, where the heat is humid like the islands.Â
Besides -- you peek an eye open and your gaze turns soft around the edges when it settles on the corporal sitting above you -- Burgie is up here, and there isnât a single place youâd rather be than by his side. Exhaustion works its way out from your bones, though, and you yawn so widely your jaw clicks.Â
âTired?â Burgin asks. Without waiting for a response he says, âsleep for a while. You can use my shirt to cover your face if you want.â He tosses you the stained undershirt heâd been ringing in his hands.Â
You canât help the unabashed smile that erupts on your face at the gesture. You beam up at Burgin, but he hunches his shoulders and looks away. He scratches at his chest, and youâre mildly distracted by the movement. Beside you, Snafu snorts, and shakes his head.Â
Burgin continues to stare at the ocean for a moment, lips pinched, then he clears his throat and turns back to you. âIâll let you know when I see the harbor, alright?âÂ
âYea, Burgie.â You exhale, and when you close your eyes, you dream of Melbourne.
can i PLEASE get a burgin friendship headcannon 𼺠during the war and maybe a little bit after đ thank you!!!
Authors note: Kenna I swear to god Iâm in â¤ď¸ with you and RV too. Thank you @alienoresimagines for somehow understanding my questions and helping me, what would I do without youđ. My knee is killing me and I had a breakdown during dinner but I did it (:
Taglist: @alienoresimagines @adamantiumdragonfly @raven-has-no-gender2272 @thatsonefishyboi @punkgeekchic @inglourious-imagines @legendarics @prvtbullshit @damngoodgirl @liebegott @noneofurbusinez @band-of-bitches @murphyism @we-always-hit-our-ass @lovingunderratedcharacters @wardley10 @stressedinadress @mavysnavy
Now idk if you can see it on his face, I know I can
His little smile, thatâs when you sass Snafu
âHey Y/N, wouldâve thought youâre dating Sledge the way you look at himâ
âHey Snafu, wouldâve thought his boyfriend would get mad at him for cheating on you with a girlâ
As @alienoresimagines said, heâs like Welsh, hopeless romantic in a way
When the girl from back home started writing letters to him, like any protective best friend would do, you immediately asked for this girls address to write to her
You eventually enjoyed her letters and told HIM that if he ever hurt Charlotte, you would hurt him back (and he knew good and well too, he saw you beat a replacement up for being a little too friendly)
Whenever there was free time (lol somehow) it was always spent with you. You grew quite good at cards during the war, taking smokes from Romus or winning a hug from Hoosier
This was the face he made when he saw you have such exreme homesickness, when it was your sisters birthday and couldnât be there
He was the one to hold you and reassure you that you would be home soon to celebrate many more birthdays with her
After the war, he made sure you didnât just leave him. Not after 4 years was he going to let you leave. He had asked you where you were going to live, only a little upset when it wasnât going to be next door like he had hoped
You end up living only 30 minutes from his large, all American house in Texas
When you start seeing a guy, Romus is like several parents in a way he wanted to meet this guy. Who was rare because he was just as respectful as Romus, both of their smiles melted your heart
forced his way to be a male maid of honor
Will ignore you if you donât promise to come over for Sunday dinner
If you bring your kids over to his house, he brings out his massive waterguns and is a little shit to you
and finally because we love a good happy âclicheâ boi
his face when you first announced him your best friend forever
RV Burgin as a dad headcannons (Burgie x Reader)
This precious bean!!!! Iâm melting at the thought of it!!!
Burgie grew up in a pretty big family so when you told him you were pregnant he was a little shocked
But he was overjoyed nonethelessÂ
He picked you up and spun you around and kind of forgot which ended with the two of you laughing
His parents were unbelievably excited too!! His mom was almost crying when you two told her
And when you told his Mee-Maw, she had the same reaction because it was her first great-grandchild
You guys went through a ton of yellow paint for the bedroom
Burgie had made a little shelf that had little horse, Cowboy and Indian figurines (one of them was a little figurine of Sacagawea with her baby on her back). His grandfather had even made a painting of a group of cowboys riding with a group of Apache Indians and you hung it above the crib
There were good days and bad days but the good far outweighed the bad
Because you had Burgie to help you out
He kind of got concerned when the last few weeks started to drag
The next thing he knew, you had woken up in the middle of the night when the pain started
Your son was born just as the sun was coming up, you named him Michael Eugene
And the whole family came to see him the next morning, Burgieâs grandparents were the first ones to hold him
Burgie would take him everywhere Â
Because he wanted Michael to see every part of the ranch, even though he was still too young
When he began walking, Burgie, his dad and his grandfather took Michael out to ride the horses
And you were proud to see four generations of men together
Because to you and Burgie, family is everything
We Will Go Home Part 3
The raucous VJ Day celebrations were sure to continue well into the night, at least if the regiment had any say in it.Â
Sledge, Burgie, Snafu and Jenny were still in disbelief that Japan had officially surrendered after four long years of fighting.....but they had....unconditionally.Â
Music played over the loudspeakers in the camp while flares served as makeshift fireworks, lighting up the night sky and the black ocean that pulled up and away from the shore. âWell,â Burgie said, pulling a large bottle out of his pack. âMy first official act of peacetime.âÂ
The bottle was passed around between the three, each of them taking a swig, one for themselves and one more for all those who had either gone stateside to heal and those who hadnât made it this far.Â
âWho the fuck woulda thought weâd make it here?â Snafu said. âI mean look at us, Burgieâs drinkin, Sledgehammaâs already a dad......what next? Jayâs gonna come and tell us that he knocked up Rachel?â
Burgie brought his booted foot right down on Snafuâs toes, prompting the curly little cretin to yelp and Sledge to laugh. âThe fuckâs wrong with you?â Snafu questioned.Â
âAlot of things,â Burgie chuckled. âI just donât care to name all of them.âÂ
Jenny made her way over to the rock with little Franny in her arms, the child wrapped in a clean blanket instead of the raggy cloth she had been found in. âWell, well, well,â Sledge remarked as he climbed down the rock and made his way over. âThereâs my two favorite girls.âÂ
Jenny laughed, tossing her blonde braid over her shoulder. âI come bearing good news Gene,â she said.Â
âAnd?âÂ
âI spoke with the higher ups,â Jenny explained. âAnd Franny is officially ours.â
A huge grin crawled across Eugeneâs face as he drew his girls close to him and planting a kiss on Jennyâs lips. The day couldnât have been better. The war was over and Sledge had gained so much more than he had ever hoped to have in his entire life.Â
                              *********
The train rattled along the rails, the outside world passing by in a blur. The morning and early afternoon had gone well enough, the four of them enjoying the last journey home together. Burgie had gotten off first when they had arrived in Texas and Snafu being the last of the group to step off when they reached New Orleans. Eugene and Jenny had been sad to see them go, but Burgie and Snafu had both promised to head their way when Jenny and Geneâs wedding rolled around. Jay had written them a letter two weeks before they had left China, taking up Sledgeâs offer to be Frannyâs godfather when the time came and hadnât failed to mention that when he and Rachel tied the knot, they too would be invited.Â
âMobile!â a voice announced. âLast stop here for Mobile, Alabama.âÂ
âLooks like thatâs us,â Eugene said.
Jenny slid her bag out from under her seat while Eugene grabbed his things from the top rack. He took Jennyâs bag, making it easier for her to carry Franny, the two of them stepping out into the bright Alabama sunlight and onto the train platform.Â
âI hope someone will be here to meet us,â Jenny said, straightening her peach colored sundress. âNot that I mind walking home, but youâre probably exhausted.âÂ
âJenny itâs not a big deal,â Sledge told her. âYou and I spent months humpinâ up hills on Peleliu and Okinawa. Walking from here to the house isnât the worst thing weâve done.âÂ
Jenny laughed but suddenly her eyes went wide, her hand abruptly covering her mouth to keep from screaming or startling Franny. Eugene was overjoyed when he saw the familiar faces of Sid and Mary standing by the car, waving to them, the four friends rushing towards each other and embracing as though they had been separated for a lifetime.Â
âDidnât think yaâll were comin home,â Sid said to Gene as they piled their luggage in the trunk.Â
âNeither did I,â Eugene replied. âBut I guess the delay was worth it.âÂ
âMan I canât believe Mary and I have a niece already,â Sid chuckled. âIf yaâll still need another set of godparents weâll offer.âÂ
âWill do Sid,â Eugene said. âBut for now I think we oughtta get home.â
The four of them climbed into the car and rode for home, leaving the station behind them and eager to catch up on what they had missed. Sid and Gene talked back and forth about the war, both the good and the bad while Jenny and Mary talked in the back seat with Franny nestled safely in Jennyâs lap. Mary couldnât get enough of Franny, making her giggle and melting as her eyes lit up at the sight of her new aunt.Â
âSid can we take her home?â Mary jokingly asked.Â
âNo,â Sid replied. âGene will kill us if we do.âÂ
âNah,â Eugene replied. âIf anything yaâll can have her on the weekends.âÂ
The whole way back to the house, the four friends enjoyed themselves until at last they reached home. Jenny and Gene gathered their things and bid farewell to Sid and Mary before making their way to the Sledge house with Franny in tow.
âYou ok?â Eugene asked when he saw the nervous look on Jennyâs face.Â
âIâll be fine,â Jenny said. âJust not sure what your mother will say when she realizes she already has a granddaughter.âÂ
Eugene assured her that everything would turn out perfectly fine but the thin little thread of doubt lingered in the back of Jennyâs mind as Eugene quietly opened the door front door. Ruth, the family maid had nearly gasped when she saw the two but Eugene quickly put a finger to his lips, warning her to be quiet. A huge grin broke over her face as Eugene crept his way into the house, his feet falling from heel to toe as he made his way to the dining room.Â
He found her in the alcove room, putting away the good china in the hutch, but he didnât dare make any sudden moves or noises. Mary Frank shut the cabinet door and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the reflection in the glass. When she turned around a small cry of joy escaped her throat as she wrapped her arms around Eugene, relieved that he had made it home alive.Â
âOh sweetheart I never thought youâd be home!â she cried.Â
âNeither did I Momma,â Eugene laughed as a tear rolled from his eyes.Â
Eugeneâs father emerged from his office a moment later, glad to see his son and surprised that Eugene had gone from a frail boy into a man in the three years he had been away. âYou did good son,â he said. âMy God I donât think half the people in Mobile would recognize you if they saw you.â
Eugene laughed, knowing his father was right. But that didnât matter to him. What mattered was being able to catch up on what he and Jenny had missed.
âI uh....I brought a little something back for the both of you,â Eugene said. âMomma, I donât know what youâll think but.....âÂ
âOh Gene donât worry about it,â Mary Frank assured him. âWhatever it is Iâm sure it isnât anything to fret over.âÂ
Jenny silently entered the room, still nervous as her heels clicked on the hard wood floors. âHi Mary Frank,â she said timidly.Â
âEugene I....â
âMomma,â Eugene said. âI want yaâll to meet your granddaughter.â
A look of shocked surprised crossed Mary Frankâs face as Jenny carefully placed Franny in the arms of her grandmother. Eugene could see the tears misting over in his motherâs eyes as Franny looked up at her. âOh Eugene,â his mother said. âSheâs beautiful.â
âHow did she come to you two?â his father enquired.
âOkinawa,â Eugene said, his tone still heavy with the memory of the day he had found Franny.Â
âHer birth parents?âÂ
Eugeneâs eyes shut as he let forth a heavy sigh. He didnât want to tell his mother and father what had happened to Frannyâs birth parents.Â
âWell.....either way,â Mary Frank said. âSheâs a part of this family now and nothing is going to change that.â
Eugene and Jenny couldnât have been happier. Jennyâs nervousness washed away the minute she saw her future mother in law doting over Franny. Neither of them would have had it any other way.Â
                           **********
5 years later- June, 1950
âOk all of you get close together now,â Eugene ordered.Â
Wrangling them all together was an absolute nightmare. Sid and Maryâs twin boys, Jayâs son Dylan, Snafuâs son Louis and the housekeeperâs grandson, Theo, didnât want to sit still long enough for Eugene to take the picture. Only Burgieâs daughter and Franny seemed to be behaving themselves.Â
Their extended family had grown strong and had continued in the five years that Gene and Jenny had been married. Sid and Mary had had Noah and Henry not too long after Eugene and Jennyâs wedding and had named both of them as the godparents. Just like their father and uncle, the gruesome twosome had a knack for getting into trouble and mischief.Â
Dylan had put in an appearance that same summer, born on Jayâs birthday which had been the hottest night of that year. He was quiet, but like Henry and Noah, he often got himself into more trouble than was worth. When he had been learning to walk, Jay had chased him all the way down to the river near Eugeneâs place and had scooped him up before he could fall in.Â
Snafu hadnât failed to tell Eugene that after he and his girl, Ruth Kirkorian, had married that Gene and Jenny would once more be aunt and uncle to another K-Company brat. Living on the bayou however, hadnât proven an easy feat for Snafuâs girl who had known her home neighborhood in New Jersey much better than Louisiana. But despite all that had happened to his mother and father, Ruth and Snafu had given their son what they could and more.
Theo had grown up with Franny while his grandmother still worked for Geneâs family. Eugene had remembered the night Theoâs father, a Tuskegee Airman, had come home. Ruth had almost had a heart attack, seeing her son in his dress uniform and the silver star pinned to his jacket. Eugene was proud of him and Theo, prouder still as he held onto the toy airplane he held in his hands.Â
But it was Franny that had grown the most. Eugene couldnât believe that five years ago she had been a war orphan, found in the bombed out ruins of a house on the island of Okinawa and now here she was, perched on the fence in the backyard with her cousins. This was the life she had....and the life she deserved.Â
âAlright all of yaâll smile,â Gene told them.Â
The kids sat still long enough for Eugene to get the snapshot he wanted and in no time at all, they were off running across the grounds and down to the pond to catch frogs.Â
âYaâll think itâs a good idea to letâem on down there?â Burgie asked nervously as he watched his daughter running close beside Franny.
âTheyâll be at that until sunset,â Eugene told him. âItâs not a big deal.âÂ
âThank God itâs the pond and not the river,â Jay said. âI swear, if I have to fish Dylan out of the water Iâll never hear the end of it from Rachel.âÂ
âAt least they ainât gittin into somethin worse,â Snafu drawled.Â
âEven if they did, just letâem,â Sid said. âKids oughtta be kids for as long as they can.â
All of them continued to watch the kids as the hot Alabama sun hung over their heads and warmed them from head to toe. The postwar years had been unbelievably good to them......hard, but good. All of them had built lives for themselves from the ground up, had fought a war and come home in one piece, struggled and strived for the things that had meant the most to them. But now that peace had come, they could at last enjoy the great respite of freedom...from this day, until the very end.Â
Pilot | War-Tober #28
Description: Home looks different from up in the sky.
Fandom: The Pacific
â¨Pairing: RV Burgin/Reader
Word Count: 900+
Warning(s): Â None.
From way up in the air, the fields of home are familiar in a way that makes Burginâs head work for it. At first glance his eyes can glaze over the landscape, write it off as foreign, but then his brain catches up and he realizes what it is heâs seeing. The plane tilts to the left, and heâs flooded with peace all at once when he spots his house, the white sheets billowing on the clothesline and the barn doors propped open.
Thereâs something to be said for belonging, wholly, to one place. It settles like dust in his bones, fills his heart with some form of contentment marines are quick to laugh off as quaint -- But Burgin feels it with his whole being. His homeland is green and flat, with a sky bluer than blue and the shadows of clouds laid flat and bare across the rolling hills, chased by the smaller, darker shadow of the little red crop duster you pilot.
The planeâs propeller buzzes like an insect in front of him, and Burgin is wary not to stick his head too far over the edge, but the wind rushes past him and tangles its wayward fingers in his hair. You try and shout something at him, but your words are stolen by the wind. Burgin grabs hold of the edges of his seat, then turns his body to face you. âWhat?â
âI said,â you annunciate with intent. âDo you want to do a barrel roll?â The horror on his face must have been apparent because you laugh loudly, then say, âdonât worry, RV. It was just a joke.âÂ
Burgin shakes his head, then sits back down in his seat facing the right way. You continue to fly the little plane in wide turns, swooping low twice over his familyâs farm before you direct the plane up higher into the sky.Â
Immediately, the temperature drops and Burgin is freezing in a way he hasnât been for a very long time. The feeling is so alien to him heâs almost surprised by it. Faintly, he hears your whoops of joy being stolen from him by the wind once again. You pass through a couple clouds, setting the plane at a swooping incline that makes Burginâs stomach drop. Then you slowly bring the plane lower and lower till youâre directing it towards a little strip of trees by a stream a couple miles away from either of your familyâs properties.Â
You land the plane gently, though the wheels bounce and bob in the grass, making Burgin grab hold of his seat and white-knuckle the leather. Eventually you bring the plane to a full stop and Burgin follows you out, body feeling strange as soon as he steps onto the ground, like he should still be up in the sky.Â
You pull your arms above your head and stretch while he squints up past the sun and marvels at the clouds you just flew him through. They are monstrous in the sky, bigger than any battleship heâs ever been on. It brings a smile to Burginâs face, the thought of what the two of you mustâve looked like, dodging clouds.
With a dramatic huff, you flop onto your back in the shade of the plane, and Burgin quietly sits next to you, enjoying the peace. A couple yards to his right, the stream bubbles and a row of poplars rustle in the breeze. Itâs hot though, smack dab in the middle of the dog days, and so as the chill dissipates, Burgin begins to sweat. The plane is like a heater behind him, but the sun is even worse. He pulls his legs to his chest to keep them out of it. Â
After minutes of silence, you sigh loudly and Burginâs attention is brought back to you. Youâre staring pensively up at the clouds as they rove the sky, at the whims of the wind. Your brow is furrowed and the sight makes a soft affection flood Burginâs chest, warm and sudden and more than welcome, like a longing for home. He wants to lean over and press a kiss right to your forehead, and for the first time in his life, he lets the want roam freely about his mind; there isnât a war to keep him from daydreaming anymore.
âDo you ever... think about all our friends, RV?â you ask hesitantly. âYou know, theyâre all gone, off to college or married. Do you ever just wonder what youâre doing? If youâre even where youâre supposed to be?â Youâve obviously thought about this for some time, but Burgin doesnât feel like he knows how to be worried anymore.Â
He stares at your face and thinks of all the expressions heâs seen you make, of all the ones he can draw out of you, of the way you laugh at him and how you shout with joy when youâre flying. âNo,â he says earnestly. Heâs been to war and heâs returned from war and now he knows exactly where heâs supposed to be, and he wonât ever leave that place -- home in Texas and by your side.Â
You turn sharply to look at him, but find something on his face that makes you pause. He knows heâs looking at you like youâre the sun in the sky and he doesnât bother hiding it. You flick your eyes away from his, a shy smile playing at your lips and Burgin knows for certain heâs in love.
The Pacific/ Avatar AU Headcannons
Robert Leckie- Waterbender, also Southern Water Tribe. Leckie was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster and waterbenders are often emotional as well. Plus those eyes man!!! Those damn eyes!!!
Bill âHoosierâ Smith- Waterbender from the south as well!! I donât know why but for whatever reason I canât picture Hoosier as anything else but a waterbender.Â
Runner Conley- possibly a firebender. Heâs got the build for it but then again I could be wrong.
Chuckler Jurgens- tall bean is an airbender. His personality lines with Aangâs perfectly.
Sidney Phillips- Waterbender and healer, he always has to patch the others up after the Earth Rumble tournaments or after a fight.Â
Eugene Sledge- Earthbender. Sledge is basically Toph. People underestimate him because of the heart murmur but once heâs in the Earth Rumble arena or in the thick of battle people learn quickly why heâs called âSledgehammer.â
Merriel âSnafuâ Shelton- ah, how could we ever forget this scary bean?  Snafu is Foggy Swamp through and through. During their journey through the Serpentâs Pass, Gene almost drowned and Snaf jumped in to save him. Sledge mistook him for his girlfriend and accidentally kissed Snafu on the cheek but after realizing his mistake, he told Snafu that âYou can go ahead and let me drown nowâ.Â
RV Burgin- another earthbender. At first I thought Burgie would be a waterbender but I looked into it a little bit more. Tough doesnât even begin to describe Burgie. He took over leader after Eddie and Ack Ack got killed and was described as always being tough minded (according to the wiki page). If that doesnât make him an earthbender then I donât know what does.Â
Jay De LâEau- yet another earthbender (I know there are one too many water and earthbenders). Jay was one tough little sucker despite his breakdown in Episode 7. He competes in the earthbending tournaments alongside Sledge and Burgie too, just to show people that he may be a small bean but he can still kick some ass.Â
Andrew âAck Ackâ Haldane and Edward âHillbillyâ Jones- both waterbenders, one from the south pole the other from the Foggy Swamp. These two would flood a whole island just to kill to kill their enemies.Â
John Basilone- Firebender through and through. John is one of only three in the group who can bend and redirect lightning. Manny, JP and the others know not to mess with him or Speirs for this very reason.Â
JP Morgan and Manny Rodriguez- Firebenders and Johnâs best friends from the Firebending Academy. These three would not only be deadly in an Agni Kai fight, but can you imagine them plus Speirs during Sozinâs Comet? That firestorm would be visible for miles.Â
Chuck Tatum- MY OTHER SWEET BOI IS A WATERBENDER!!! I know redheads probably arenât common in the Southern Water Tribe but after watching Episode 8 of The Pacific, this lil bean gave off MAJOR Katara vibes. He can create ice prisons (and turn the inside of the ice to pure liquid) and even heal himself, which comes in handy every time John, JP and Manny go at it because one of them once burned his hands........badly. Even Sobel was impressed when he saw his healing powers. Which is a good thing because.....
Steve Evanson- is a hard headed, cocky, stubborn as fuck earthbender!! The gang has pretty much lost count of how many times this kid has gotten himself into trouble for running his mouth, but damn can he pitch a rock like nobodyâs business. Steve goes absolutely balls-to-the-wall in a fight and when the dirt flies, it flies.
Lena Riggi- all hail the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors!! Lena would definitely fit in with these girls and if people mess with her or John, the gloves come off.Â
Vera Keller- another Kyoshi Warrior. Vera definitely gave me Suki vibes after watching both series.Â
Stella Karamanlis- Stella is basically Princess Yue. She had a short relationship with Leckie because she felt that it was her duty to save the Moon Spirit and didnât want him or the others to get killed.Â
