I'm pretty sure you've already got plenty of submissions for her so I'll just say she was raised in what is basically a cult (technically a nunnery but let's be real) dedicated to keeping the body of the thing that will kill God behind the rock. One of their prayers is actually "I pray the rock is never rolled away". Harrow is extremely devout as penance for her earlier heretical actions in the tomb as a child (spoiler!) so the Catholic guilt really comes through

she’s number one practitioner of space Catholicism. The locked tomb is chock full of Christian (catholic) imagery themes metaphors etc. just look at her she’s got a bone rosary

They're Catholicism with extra bones. Everyone is a nun. They have what is basically a rosary made from knuckle bones. They technically worship the same God as everyone else, but they're waaaay more focused on The Body in the Tomb (Mary) and we get a moment where we find out that while everyone else prays the equivilent of The Lords Prayer, they're doing the equivilent of Hail Mary. And they paint their faces with skulls.

She thinks leaving dry bread in a drawer is taking care of someone. She's in love with a 10,000 year old corpse (the same one they worship). She spent ALL NIGHT digging with her bare hands to make sure a field had bones every 5 feet so she could fight her girlfriend - I mean, greatest enemy. Spoiler territory: She's been puppeting her parents corpses since she was 8 years old. Instead of grieving her dead girlfriend, she gives herself a lobotomy. She makes soup with bone in it so she can use the bone IN THEIR STOMACH to try and kill them.

I love the Locked Tomb series but Harrowhark has daddy issues with God, had a childhood crush on God's cryogenic partner, and is in love with God's daughter, not to mention that she's essentially a bone-bender. The religion on her home planet exists in a way that is technically against the will of the canon in-universe God, even. All of this to say, Harrowhark is heretical at minimum if not an outright witch. Terrible Catholic. Burn her.

basically ronan's powers are inherited from his dead father niall and it means he can bring anything from a dream into real life. so he's got this whole crisis about whether he is a living piece of blasphemy because men are not meant to have the powers of gods or whether he literally is god. which is not acceptable to him for a number of reasons but mostly because he hates himself. his love interest's name is adam and adam lives in a small apartment above a church which the book says focuses the objects of his worship neatly into one building. Listen, if you haven't read 'Gideon the Ninth', you are missing out on an absolutely amazing, completely bonkers, filled with witty banter, book about Lesbian Necromancers in Space.

I will: Gideon and Harrow absolutely ruined me and 'Harrow the Ninth' was even better that its predecessor.

5. Avatar Korra and Asami Sato/Korrasami (Avatar: The Legend of Korra)

While Korra and Asami were robbed in the series because of censoring, the comics pick up right where the show ended: showing our girls completely dominating Republic City in all of their Power Couple Glory.

Probably the oldest show or book on this list, Korra and Asami paved the way for lgbtq+ representation in mainstream media today.

4. Rangi and Kyoshi/Rangshi (The Kyoshi Novels)

Yet another Avatar and their forever girl! Kyoshi is my favourite Avatar and Rangi is in the same league: both of them are them are in a separate class of their own making.

3. Luz Noceda and Amity Blight/Lumity (The Owl House)

Owl House is the sweetest thing I've seen all year. Luz and Amity are no exception.

So in no particular order, my top 10 favorite characters:

Let's just these guys out of the way because everyone is going to yell at me for loving the same trope: Dabi/Todoroki Touya from Boku no Hero, Jason Todd/Red Hood from Batman, and Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier from Marvel:

Yes, I do love ppl who were sweet to begin with but then died and came back for VENGEANCE as a darker self. :DDD I am hoping that similar to Bucky and Jason, Dabi can successfully make the turn from anti-villain to anti-hero (and if Horikoshi kills off Dabi, I'm done).

Speaking of anti-heroes, next is our badass magical girl who never gives up (to her detriment in the end), Akemi Homura from Madoka Magica:

The way she uses her time stop skills are amazing, and say what you want, but this girl does ultimately manage to reach her goals in the end (....by maybe destroying the world, but hey, that's also impressive in some ways!)

Next up is our favorite Ankh-Morpork Watch Commander from the Discworld series, His Grace, Duke Sam Vimes:

Grumpy, tired, cynical, but by god, he's going to track down the perpetrators and protect the people of the city! His arc from bright wide-eyed idealist to drunk to respected commander of the city watch is really something to behold through the series, and he's why the Watch books in the Discworld series hold such a special place in my heart.

Now for another character who only exists in books (to my sorrow): Mara Jade from Star Wars:

Technically she only exists in Star Wars Legends now because Disney was evil and decided to retcon her and a ton of other things out of existence, but I LOVE HER ANYWAY AND SHE'S STILL CANON TO ME. Former Emperor's Hand who is cast adrift after the death of Palpatine, she very slowly befriends and then falls in love with her former target, Luke Skywalker, and becomes a Jedi Master as well. She is the best thing in the old Star Wars books, and really, you should read some of them just for her.

Continuing with the scifi theme, let's talk about ART from the Murderbot novels:

Nope, ART isn't the humanoid figure on this cover, that's Murderbot (who I also love). ART is the ship! ART stands for Asshole Research Transport (Murderbot's affectionate name for it), although its formal name is Perihelion, Peri for short. ART is a super-intelligent ship who is snarky as hell but also wibbles and has to take a moment when watching a show where characters die/may die. It's also fiercely protective of its crew and friends, as evidenced when it threatens to bomb a colony to oblivion if they don't return the captured Murderbot.

Switching back to anime, let's introduce Hiruma Yoichi from Eyeshield 21:

Hiruma is the trigger-happy captain of the Deimon Devil Bats and the driving force for most of the series since he's the one running recruitment and training for a lot of the series. He has blackmail on absolutely everyone, an arsenal of a small army, and believes that intimidation and psychological warfare are the way to go! He's absolutely hilarious, but he also cares deeply for his team members and friends.

Going with the mind game masters, we have to mention Maeve from Westworld:

Ignoring season 3 (because season 3 was kind of a mess), Maeve might have been programmed to go off course, but she charted her own path forward ultimately, dragging in allies and new programming along the way. I was happy she got to save her daughter, even if she couldn't ultimately be with her, and I hope she gets a new plotline in season 4!

And finally, the Revered Daughter of Drearburh Harrowhark Nonagesimus from the Locked Tomb series:

Look, if you can't already tell, I love gothic stuff, and Harrow is the ULTIMATE GOTH. Necromantic genius, brooding, sarcastic but with a very hidden, soft squishy center, I knew I loved her as soon as she was invited to a birthday party and proceeded to festoon herself in the most glorious of her dark clothes, repaint her face twice, then brood nervously over how to interact with people at a party.

So there we go! My top 10!

@wolffyluna left it open to whoever felt like it and I need a break between class and studying so...let’s go in no particular order... 1. Jame from The Chronicles of the Kencyrath. For a lot of reasons, really. Jame is just kind of...A mood? And one I personally really have needed. She’s like very much not a girly girl, but she’s still got like girly concerns and also she rides a death metal unicorn and she has a cat she is magically bonded to. Jame is very much a little girl power fantasy kind of character, but she’s also like deeply fucked up due to her very fucked up upbringing. And the handling of said mental issues and trauma is handled really well and in a Very Real sort of way. Jame’s also just fun and cute and hot and she falls off of something once a book at least. Also a character, a woman at that, whose method of helping things is breaking stuff? While also challenging the fact that choices are hard and your best intentions might still fuck shit up? Hell yeah. Go Jame. 2. Harrowhark Nonagesimus from The Locked Tomb Trilogy. THE NEWEST FAV OF THE BUNCH. She’s goth. She’s a nun. She’s gay. She’s a necromancer. This is all very good shit alone. But then there is like the sort of person Harrow is. And Harrow is the sort of girl who will go days without sleep and break a bone and be like “Well I got a test today...” before downing 15 Red Bulls and taking some pain killers before going to class. Then she will get an A on the test and be a fuck about that. She’s mean, she’s got an ego, she’s weird and standoffish. But like she hates herself and she’s like weirdly repressed in certain ways and she’s neglected as shit. I love this awful bone witch 10/10 would watch her kick Griddle in the face again. 3. Soifon from Bleach. She’s angry. She’s short. She’s wasp themed. Also like the entirety of her story in the Soul Society arc is this like...It’s the aftermath of your typical S narrative, except the little sister and big sister were highly trained murder ninjas from the afterlife. Also one turns into a cat. Soifon’s just kind of a mood and she’s fun and she’s got a lot of potential for fans to play around with, both seriously and jokingly. Also like Soifon’s bookending is just...It works really well I feel like. Honestly, Soifon’s arcs in general are fun things and they’re good shows of what the narrative strengths of Bleach are and where they are. 4. Edelgard von Hresvelg from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I have written over 80 poems involving this woman. I have written essays about her. El and her deal with trauma just...Hits right in a lot of ways. Also I appreciate having like an abuse survivor who is a woman who like...Doesn’t just lie down and take shit? And I appreciate that we can see what an Edelgard who doesn’t start recovering becomes versus what an Edelgard who does start recovering is like. We get to see both sides of this in one character. She can be both a hero and a monster. And that’s just really important to see when you’re an abuse survivor with BPD. I also really appreciate that she’s just such a cute goober about romance? Like El’s a romantic. She wants a fairy tale romance and a happily ever after. That’s cute as fuck. 5. Zero from Force of Will. Is Force of Will’s story awkward trash? Yeah. It is. But I love this grumpy gay vampire bitch so much. She is a gay vampire wizard who is married to a gay elf and her magic is at its most potent when she is pissed the fuck off. Good shit. She’s also the ruler behind my absolute favorite deck in the entire game and like in a tcg in general? She’s scrappy and annoying and hard to get rid off and she’ll tell you “No” a lot while also hitting you very hard in the face. I like that. It’s fun and can make people feel helpless against it. Which I think works well with her character? Her rulers also never work well with her wife’s, which I find a funny way of representing that they argue a lot via gameplay mechanics. 6. Houjou Satoko from Higurashi. A lot of people say she’s irritating and the worst character and you know what? That’s fair. Satoko is annoying. She’s a huge fucking brat. But like. I dunno. I get why she is. And she’s the first time I can think of where I saw like the way kids can and will sabotage attempts to get CPS involved in their situation portrayed. Like she knows she’s being abused and she knows that shit sucks and would like it to not suck, but she still sabotages her friends’ attempts to get the authorities involved because she knows what happens when the authorities can’t get you out. I’ve got a complicated relationship with CPS, due to my experiences with it as a kid. The arc where they come this close to saving her and fail is the most soul crushing fucking thing. 7. Tsukino Usagi from Sailor Moon. So like with Jame this is partly a case of like a girl who is very authentically girl. She cries a lot and easily. She’s kind of lazy as hell. She wants to just laze about and eat shit food and read comics and play games. But she also like wants to have a fairy tale romance and like. Fuck that’s a mood. Like that’s it. That’s what being a girl is like! Authentically a girl! Also there’s just something very satisfying about Usagi getting so fucking sad that the universe just outright apologizes to her basically and brings a dead girl back to life. Is it realistic? No. But I don’t care. Sometimes you just want reality to listen to you and your feelings. 8. ENA from...ENA. ENA’s rapid and extreme mood swings are like. They’re cool. I mean not cool cool but like. I’ve got BPD so like seeing extreme mood shifts like that is cool. Also she’s fucking rad as hell looking and in a really weird ass series of shorts? With hourglass dogs and turrónes and what not. I find ENA hard to describe. Just go watch Auction Day. 9. Fate Testarossa from Nanoha. Starts out a highly abused child and then ends up a gay mom. Fate’s just a really sweet person and she cares a lot. And I really like that she like has a weird complicated relationship with her mom. Like she knows the woman hated her and she knows that they way she was abused was shit but like...She does still love her mom. A lot. And what happened to her affects the entire trajectory of her life from that point on. Hell, she fucking chooses her career path as like a space cop for the express purpose of making sure that there aren’t any other Fate Testarossas made. Fate’s a character who is affected heavily by her trauma, but she’s not stuck in her trauma. She’s not destroyed by it. But it still very much impacts her life and it’s never going away. 10. Remilia Scarlet from Touhou. She’s a fucking vampire what the fuck else do I need? She’s like one of those eternal child vampires too so she’s a fucking brat who tries to act cool and refined. But really she’s like a dumb kid in a lot of ways. She still tries to be an adult though. There’s a lot of fun ways you can handle Remilia. A lot of fun ways that people have written her. That’s part of the fun of Touhou in general, really. Remi’s just my favorite of the Touhous because she’s a bratty vampire with a Dio reference maid. Also have you seen her blocking animation from Hisoutensoku? Because if not you fucking should. It’s great. anyway. whoever else wants to do this go for it i guess.

To continue....the three most dangerous/powerfull necromancers were Ianthe, Palamedes and harrowhawk.

Judith Deuteros (2)(for she was shitty) refused to play the rules to any game but her own and Marta functioned as her inforcer. I cant remember marta ever questining her necro...in retrospect that was a bad sign.

Isaac Tettares (4) was 14 and doing his best but he was in over his head and got necr-ophaned to young. And Jeanemaire was doing her best to have his back like a best friend should but they never stood a chance.

Abigail Pent (5) was a badass but i think she cared as less about being a necro-mancer then she did about being a good necro-parent and historian. So she died of perfectly understanable, wrong genre assuming, lack a paranoia. Magnus was an awesome husband, abigail was lucky to be necro-married to him but he was shit in a fight.

Palamedes Sextus (6) the sex-pal himself, was an awesome human being who had pretty much all his shit together... and any shit he missed camilla took care of quickly and effectivly. But they functioned as equals....love... repect...paranoia...all that jazz, they were comfortable working independantly or together and Paladedes CHOOSE not to become a lycter. He picked his moral mountain to die on and camilla had his back.

For the sake of this rant Dulcinea Septimus (7) does not count..... for reasons

Silas Octakiseron (8) is an asshat who used Colum as his servent/battery and silad would rather sit on his dubius moral hillock then learn anything.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus (9) only truely seemed to care about two things: keeping the tomb locked and keeping gideon with her. She was cruel and cunning and hardworking to ocomplish her goals. She was also a rageing bitch but she loved gideon and HARROW IS VERY VERY BAD AT EXPRESSING HEALTHY EMOTIONS. Normaly I am very not okay when love is expressed as abuse but I dont think it ever occoued to Harrow that she could hunt Gideon. Because nothing could kill Gideon. Everything else in Harrows world was decaying or dead but Gideon was unkillable. Harrow did some fucked up things to gideon, but i think it was always about gettingngideon to focus on harrow. So when they get to the first house Harrow firstbtries to limit gideons contact with the others for Harrow knew that Gideon was pure of heart and dumb of ass so a gernerly likeable human being...and she understood that she(harrow) was not. Then Gideon come and saves harrow and harrow starts to understand that maybe there are options to keep a persin with you ither than controll. So they land in a great lesbian pile if rage and respect, horemones, facepaint, and fair two many sharp boney bits for two girls to resinanably have.

Which brings me back to the idiots of the third house. Ianthe, Coronabeth and Babs who clearly have about 50% to much human for thier partenership. From what they say ianthe was being strangled in the womb by Coronabeth...and thier father wanted a Matching set so Ianthe faked Coronabeths power.

Coronabeth should have been Ianthe's cav. They would still have been a matched pair. Babs was basicly Coronabeths overgroomed beard. Ianthe was an idiot for killing Babs instead if enlisting Caronabeths help. I think that Corona would rather have been awknolaged as Ianthes cav even if it meant dieing just to be honest. But ianthe was shit with people and let coronabeth do all the heavy lifting of human interactions and she went off to be smart and skulk around....if ianthe bothered to investigate the other houses eeven for an hour or two she would probably has figured things out a lot soonner.

Also if the lycters have the mucle memory of their cav's then ianthe/coronabeth would have worked best! Identical bodies....different memories

I truly believe that nona is alecto/the body for the very simple and vitally important reason that harrow and nona/alecto/the body will meet at some point and harrow will be like O immortal Body, I have kept troth with you these many long and darkling years, I have sworn my heart, worthless thing though it may be, to you, I cast my fragile and aching body at your feet (and etc etc)

and the Body will look at her with those ineffable golden eyes and open her imperfectly beautiful mouth and say, her own true voice ringing out in harrow's ears for the very first time, "Hi! I like dogs, do you like dogs? I kissed you in the mirror once. Do you want to be best friends?"
