* This piece was commissioned by The Star & Lantern in Pennsylvania as part of a project commemorating The Underground Railroad.
** I wanted to celebrate our Warrior Queen by showing her in all her fierce defiant and bold glory. I wanted her power and integrity to come through in this work. In her dress I collaged pages from the book of Exodus which describe Moses guiding the enslaved children of Israel out of bondage and leading them to the Promised Land. Harriet is often referring to as our “Moses”. I also added copies of documents that show the postings of rewards given for runaway slaves as well as other articles from that era pertaining to enslaved Africans. In many circles it is believed that Harriet was a powerful Mambo (high priestess) of the Hoodoo tradition so I included recipes & formulas for spells & hexes in the collage and lastly the image taken from the manifest of a slave ship that laid out the stacking of African bodies for the Middle Passage journey. * Harriet is holding the “Seed of Life” which symbolizes all creation and from her hands the drips that symbolize the blood lines that she saved as well as the blood that was shed in the pursuits of Freedom. * in the background is the symbol for the “North Star” and at the bottom of her garment the “Bow tie” both were designs used in quilts made by enslaved & newly freed Africans. *Harriet is standing on a collage that depicts her legacy of righteous resistance; here we see images of the Black Panther Party, Civil Rights and BLM Protesters as well as the faces of joyful liberated children....

Imagine taunting someone. DEMANDING they come outside because the beef isn’t dying down this time and that he must follow through! …Big bully energy! Just to get knocked on your ass, turn into a victim and file a lawsuit. And now y’all want to infantile and protect him? LOLOL
A lot of the coddling and protection of Drake by social media, leans into colorism and racial stereotyping. Just look at the discourse of a lot of his defenders. They lean into racial slurs, A LOT and he’s aware so he used it to his advantage, claiming antisemitism. Getting called out for colonizing and pedophilia isn’t antisemitism. The holocaust and Kanye tweets praising Hitler is antisemitism(btw he deactivated his twitter account. Thank God.)
Put black creatives and NOT one WHITE creative in that lawsuit. Telling the judge he’s being targeted for being Jewish. If you can’t see how dangerous and disgusting that is, knowing the history of black people and the court system, I have nothing for you! Nothing!
“Omg judge, look at these black people targeting me …I’m just a Jewish boy from Canada” and y’all black asses in the comments stamping that. NOTHING. BUT. RACCOONS. HarrietTubman would have shot all your ancestors
We’ve seen this nigga bully EVERYBODY. Steal music from EVERYBODY. Secretly have his hands in other peoples contracts. Harass and make jokes about a woman being shot and nearly killed by a Canadian baldie which btw he didn’t like at first but then slutted out for him because she didn’t give him the time of day. (Never mind the fact that he slutted out for this Canadian baldie who’s doing ten years for nearly killing an orphaned black woman for NO GOOD REASON!!!)Make music videos alluding to KILLING another artist and I’m supposed to feel sorry for that white bitch? I don’t.
Welcome to the land of f-k around and find out. Population you Aubrey

🖤#ArtIsAWeapon #HarrietTubman #ChristmasEve Photo and caption reposted from @nmaahc
On #ChristmasEve 1854, Harriet Tubman returned to her Eastern Shore Maryland home to emancipate her brothers Ben, Henry, and Robert from slavery. Tubman had heard rumors that there were plans to sell the men the day after Christmas, so she sent word to her brothers through Jacob Jackson, a free African American man.
During the slavery era, Christmas became a popular time for freedom seekers to plan escapes because enslaved people often received travel passes to visit family who lived on other properties during the holiday. Once they received travel passes, they were not expected to show up again until well after the holiday. Tubman wrote in code: “tell my brothers to be always watching unto prayer and when the good old ship of Zion comes along, to be ready to step on board.”
The brothers had travel passes to visit their parents Ben Sr. and Rit Ross for Christmas. 3 others, including Ben’s fiancée, would join the group on their journey North to freedom. They traveled more than 100 miles, arriving at William Still’s Anti-Slavery office in Philadelphia on Dec. 29, 1854. #APeoplesJourney #ANationsStory

106.) In 2016, I asked for some suggestions as to what I could depict on a sweater in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. One of the top ideas was the “I have a dream” speech. My ‘dream’ of such a sweater came true a year later and I’ve worn it on MLK Day every year since. I also wore it on April 4, 2018, the 50 year anniversary of his death, and at various other relevant times. Because the speech and Dr. King’s death happened before I was born, I used an app to superimpose myself in front of a picture of the event. #sambarsky #sambarskysweaters #sambarskyknitter #knit #knitting #knitter #art #artist #sweater #intarsia #handknit #martinlutherking #martinlutherkingjr #mlk #martinlutherkingjrday #martinlutherkingday #mlkday #ihaveadream #ihaveadreamspeech #dream #washingtonmonument #lincolnmemorial #harriettubman #undergroundrailroad #rosaparks https://www.instagram.com/p/CqWQC4lvpS_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
