For National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11) while also acknowledging Harriet the Spy’s place in the LGBTQ world, I came up with the idea of Harriet coming out as queer to Ole Golly! (Harriet’s VA Beanie Feldstein identifies herself as queer and Ole Golly’s VA Jane Lynch is a lesbian!)

Round 1 poll 21: Harriet M. Welsch from Harriet the Spy vs Amelia Bedelia
Propaganda under the cut
Harriet M. Welsch:
Middle school spy and future author extraordinaire, chocolate egg cream fan
i wanted to be her SO MUCH oh man. related to hard to her as a kid. iconic misunderstood sneaky queen who loves tomato sandwiches. she just wants to know everything about people!
She kind of sucks actually and that’s unique and bold for classic kid lit. But you have to admire her ambition and passion. Just a very well fleshed out character.
Amelia Bedelia:
The whole series is about her taking figures of speech literally. Relatable because she shows the English language is confusing as fu-
she's very silly, and her books were among my favorites as a kid. her whole deal is that she takes metaphors very literally, which results in lots of shenanigans when someone asks her to do something. i still think about her "dusting the furniture" (covering it with dust) and "drawing the drapes" (drawing a picture of them on a piece of paper) when i clean anything.
queen of literal interpretation!
She's just a silly goofy type
absent-minded/processing issues queen
Well meaning and kind hearted but bumbling maid who’s made generations of kids laugh with her literalist antics

Harriet M. Welsch from Harriet the Spy.
Original Drawing Date: October 28 2022.
Here is an historical character! A character that's been around for decades! Harriet the Spy first hit the world on 1964 on her novel for children, and ever since she's made history!
Harriet has been on people's childhood for many years, but what I find very scary is that people are forgetting her! Even I forgot about her, if it wasn't for the new AppleTV+ series made by the Jim Henson Company I wouldn't remembered her.
Harriet is yet another character that I love because she aspires to be a writer, just like I also aspire to be. So in the series she learns what it is to be a spy, she is always there looking for stories, looking to tell the truth without being afraid, she teaches us that at every given moment we are making history! there is history occurring in every single place, even in places we never imagined! From the moment you wake up and get out of bed you are making history, every scar, stain, and rip on your jacket has a story behind it! There is a story behind every little detail, behind every scar, every tear, and every experience, we are all part of history since the moment we are born, we are part of history even before our birth! Because there is a story on how our mom and dad met! And there is even a story behind our very own name!
I love also how the series shows us that every failure we have in life is also a story, and that every time that we stop moving and pursuing what we love, that means that we are pausing our big story!
This series has definitely changed my perspective on life, since I watch this series I am interesting in the story of every single person, every single thing, I want to know the world and find big stories on things that seem insignificant and always cherish every single moment.

Who wrote the 1964 children's book 'Harriet the Spy'?
'Harriet the Spy' is a children's novel written and illustrated by Louise Fitzhugh in 1964. Harriet M. Welsch is an eleven-year-old aspiring writer who pretends to be a spy by writing everything she knows about her school classmates in her notebook. Harriet loses track of her notebook and it ends up in the wrong hands. Before she can stop them, her friends have read the brutally honest things she has written about them.
Louise Fitzhugh (1928-1974) was an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She is mostly known for the novel 'Harriet the Spy' and its sequel, 'The Long Secret' (1965). She also collaborated with other illustrators on the picture books 'I Am Five' (1978) and the posthumously published 'I Am Four' and 'I Am Three' (1982). Fitzhugh died in 1974 of a brain aneurysm, eight days before the publication of her final novel, 'Nobody's Family Is Going to Change'.
In 2015, 'Time Out' magazine ranked 'Harriet the Spy' number 34 in the '73 best kids' books of all time for families'. Despite its popularity, it has been banned in some schools because it "teaches children to lie, spy, back-talk, and curse". Nonetheless, the book has been adapted into films and television series.

POV Introduction #2
Iveta Norwoode. Iveta is the 2nd story-world character we follow in Hogenroe. Iveta is from a legacy family, meaning the Norwoodes have lived in Hogenroe since Walther Hogenroe's official takeover.
Character Inspiration for Iveta:
Lisa Simpson - The Simpsons (1989 - , TV Show/Franchise)
Susie Carmichael - Rugrats (1991-2004, TV Show)
Harriet M. Welsch - Harriet the Spy (1996 Film)
Karen Beecher aka Bumblebee (2003-2006, TV Show)
Khadijah James - Living Single (1993-1998, TV Show)
Iridessa - Tinker Bell (2008-, Film/Franchise)
Valerie Gray - Danny Phantom (2004-2007, TV Show)
Velma Dinkley - Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (1969- , TV Show/Franchise)
Iveta Alice Norwoode is a rarity in Hogenroe; a professor who actually teaches! When Iveta isn't pushing her 1st and 2nd year students to take potion making and cauldron-minding seriously, she is fighting alongside with her non-teaching co-workers (and specifically one of her best friends since Novice school, Yogelov Din). There is little doubt about it, Iveta is an irreplaceable asset to the team.
All the more frustrating that she feels, knows, that that is not enough.
Iveta shoved much of her personal life to the side to be the perfect professor: her strained relationship with her mother and younger sister only made worse with the unexpected death of her father (also a perfect professor), her passion for all things automobile, and an infatuation with a certain Hogenroe Academy mechanic (who may or may not have noticed Iveta as well).
But none of that comes before the job. It is another year in Hogenroe, and another year for Perfect Professor Norwoode.
One would assume.
Iveta's Color Is Yellow. Here is her playlist.
#hogenroe post!#character tidbits#iveta norwoode#shoutout to the nerds who go nuts after years of repression and shame hint hint wink wink
