As someone who was always taught to be the 'good little girl' - Anne whacking Gilbert on the head for pulling on her hair made her an absolute legend in my mind. She loves nature, has a temper, and finally gets to enjoy the simple joys of childhood with her new family the Cuthberts.

she is so dear to my heart. she never stops talking and is always finding beauty in the world around her. she grows up through the series and reading it at different ages through the years meant I sort of got to grow up with her, which was really special to me. she has this wonderful story about finding family where she doesn't expect it and winning people over through being herself and being kind to them. also, canadian content <3

Bluestar:

Shes the leader of her clan and does a damn good job of it until she has a mental breakdown. Then eventually she snaps out of it and goes down in a blaze of glory and becomes a helpful ghost. She also had 2 kittens but gave them up so she could be leader

Angelina Mouseling:

Look any little girl who wanted to be a ballerina was Obsessed. I was always rooting for her, plus she's a mouse?? Which made her adorable

Shapeshifting farm girl who fought the brain-slug invasion. Ethical center of the team, went on to be an important political figure after the war.

shes my baby and she deserves it no but seriously i love cassie so much. she works at her familys vet out of their barn and will take any and every opportunity to spout cool animal facts. she does brain surgery on her alien friend. shes gnc as fuck. she gets easily flustered around her crush seeing her in a dress even though they watch each other routinely disgustingly shapeshift into animals on a regular basis. its heavily implied she killed a cop in the first book and may have set a billionaires house on fire in a different book. shes willing to give up her own life just to save one person. she once made up a fake phone number and it was 12345678

Otulissa:

she's one of the smartest characters in a series full of very intelligent characters, she is a capable fighter and can detect minute changes in atmospheric conditions, she is the one who found the king and brought him back to the ga'hoole tree, and is consistently the voice of reason when the main characters are away and the tree inevitably descends into chaos (this happens twice in the second half of the series). also she loses an eye in the second last book which makes her even cooler

Ella:

Ella is cursed to be obedient, forcing her to follow any command given to her. Despite this, she strives to find ways around the curse or cause problems for those who make commands. She’s also a budding linguistic, learning multiple languages on her journey. Furthermore, Ella's curse serves as a metaphor for the lack of autonomy children experience in society, often being made to do things beyond their control because adults in their lives dictate it so. Clearly, a strong contender in the race!

Cursed with obedience, Ella will stretch her limits and find any loophole to disobey orders, and in the end it is her indomitable spirit and deep love that enables her to break her own curse. She is also clever, funny, incredibly gifted with languages, and has a heart for justice.

Absolute badass. First female Knight in all of Tortall. The books are all about her challenges with growing up disguising her gender, romance, duty, heroism, and finding your place in the world -- and struggling to accept when it isn't the one you'd expected. In later series by Tamora Pierce you get to see her as a mother, too, which is rad as heck. Totally inspiring character to me as a kid, and one of the first fantasy book/series I remembered reading with a girl protagonist.

Sophie Hatter:

Sophie Hatter is absolutely iconic. She’s quiet and soft-spoken, but the moment she becomes and old lady she’s like, might as well fit the role, and instantly starts speaking her mind. She breaks into a wizard’s castle to become his cleaning lady, she pretends to be his mother, she expresses her feelings with weed killer. She can talk magic into things and doesn’t realize Howl is completely head over heels in love with her until he risks his life for her and they proceed to confess to each other by bickering like an old married couple. She’s also the epitome of an eldest sister and I based my entire personality off of her.

Round 3 poll 2: Peril from Wings of Fire vs Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Peril:

PERIL MY FAVORITE GIRL. she has a PHENOMENAL character design. she's a dragon whose scales are burning hot to the touch, and her eyes are bright blue, but in a way that's basically described as "the sky, but on fire". a major antagonist was basically raising her as a living weapon, and her childhood was pretty horrific even by wings of fire standards. she was made to brutally murder other dragons in arena fights for her kind-of-mother-figure's entertainment. she had extremely few normal interactions with others for most of her childhood, so she does not have a great frame of reference for most situations. also her one friend/decent parental figure was later murdered in front of her as a punishment. anyways by the time the main characters show up, she (VERY UNDERSTANDABLY) has atrocious social skills and loads of trauma. she's also genuinely delightful in every scene she's in, because she's so well-meaning and fun, and she has a tendency to speak in caps-lock. she immediately latches onto the first character to be nice to her, and that leads to her helping out the main characters several times. THEN. she gets her own book! and her perspective is my favorite out of all the POV characters. she does not react normally to any situation ever, and she makes a friend!! and it's the best best best dynamic in the books, and i love them forever and ever and ever. pretty much everything she says or thinks is one of my favorite lines. she has sooo many issues. she's my daughter she's my child. she's a war hero she's a war criminal she's both she's neither. God Forbid Women Do Anything. Peril Has Done Nothing Wrong In Her Life Ever And I Love Her. she's literally perfect. she is HAUNTED she is TRAUMATIZED she is MORALLY QUESTIONABLE she is LONELY she is WEIRD her first instincts are almost always ARSON AND VIOLENCE and she is TRYING HER BEST ALWAYS. anyways vote Peril Wings Of Fire. for me. <3
